Finally the clouds had parted. All week it'd been overcast or light drizzle despite it being summer, showing the fickle nature of... well, nature. It had started getting so bad that Kai carried around her backpack everywhere now, keeping a change of clothes in there in case the weather decided it was having a bad day and needed a bit of a cry. She understood though, everyone had those days where they just didn't know what to think or feel. If only she could cheer up the weather like she tried to with everyone else; would Mother Nature appreciate her peppy attitude? Who knows, she tended to be a pretty moody lady.
She took a bite out of her melon pan bread as she jogged, chewing on it swiftly and decisively. Kai wasn't going to let this brief respite from the cold go wasted, she had deliveries to do today and the sooner they got done, the better! Most of her contracts today were regulars, people who had given her a chance when she was first starting and thankfully stuck with her for the few months she'd been operating. Letting them down wasn't an option! Both because she had to maintain her professionalism and because she owed them for even taking a chance on a small start-up like hers.
A quick check of her watch told her it was already around noon. The packages she'd delivered thus far had been fairly light work, so she knew she wouldn't need a particularly big snack. Ducking into a convenience store just as she finished her melon pan, she licked her fingers clean quickly and grabbed a soda can from the shelf. Yet as she passed the magazine stand, she paused for a moment, seeing a very red cover of some modelling or fashion magazine or something. And then she saw the name.
Tasukai, Yumi-san... huh, I think I have a package for her...
Reaching into her side satchel, she took a small brown cardboard box out, reading over the label. Name: Tasukai, Yumi. Contents: Eye contacts, 1 pack. Yeah... there she is. Huh. She wondered why a successful model would have ordered something from a courier service, though she supposed everyone needed things delivered now and then, even the rich and famous. With a small shrug she took the magazine on impulse, quickly paying for them both with a scan of her card and then dashing out of the door with a hum.
Out of curiosity she opened the magazine, flicking through it as she stuffed her soda in one of the side pockets of her bag. Technically she was still on break, but she might as well head towards her next delivery. After all, no one ever complained about getting a package too early, right? Her walk turned into a jog as she went on, instinctively. She was a runner by nature, it was only natural that when she was so focused on something her body would revert to doing that.
She was never really one for fashion but this magazine was fascinating! So many little hints and tips on how to look nice with minimal makeup, what the latest trends were... maybe she should update her uniform to be a little more trendy... Nah, it was a uniform, it wasn't supposed to be trendy, right? It's professional work clothes after all. Her eyebrows raised as she turned to the next page, seeing a full double page spread of that same red-haired lady from the cover in... very revealing attire. Her cheeks lit up in a small blush. She hadn't realized it was that type of magazine, geez! Yet she also couldn't really look away, she was clearly very good at her craft.
Luckily the street was empty, right?

Yumi was in a bit of a fuss today. Since the whole issue with the hit list from Ishtar and Red getting... more red-ish in his behavior Yumi's general stress level had been slowly rising and she was generally trying to keep on top of things with her hero studies and her desire to still be a teacher, both careers you couldn't really take much of a 'day off' for, leaving her feeling blown off her feet every day as she had to keep to her schedules while her head was a mess. Luckily she wasn't in a rush, she had a few plans but mostly stuff to just... burn off energy and hopefully relax. Go to a few quirky cafes to get some food in her, maybe hit up a dance machine at one of the arcades...
All in all, she wasn't really too hopeful, she could see herself coming back just as stressed as ever but ya know... she had to try right? Why not at least put the effort in to... relax. Wow thinking that aloud she realized how counterproductive that all was. She let out a nervous little chuckle as she rubbed her forehead, stepping along and trying to keep herself fo- okay. Still the wrong idea...
Ugh maybe this is just where she was now. She kept hoping there was finally gonna be a time when things eased up but... she basically wanted to lead a life with 3 jobs, and while they were all jobs she loved or hobbies she found engaging but if it had her so rushed off her feet now maybe she just had to adapt to a constant stream of mess like this. Well... at least she had today to...
"... Ah crap..."
She idly reached back into her satchel, having been idly feeling for her wallet and realizing she didn't feel it where she expected to, she turned her head as, on auto pilot, she turned about a corner she knew she had to make. Next thing she knew there was an idly throbbing pain in her forehead as she was falling back onto her ass, letting out a squeak and a hiss of pain. Despite being a hero she still wasn't all that used to taking blows given she preferred to avoid them entirely, her vision briefly blurry as she rubbed her forehead, groaning as she tried to regain her senses, a vague vision of blue and gold shifting into a more constant figure...
"O-oh my god I'm so sorry I wasn't looking! Er..." She was in a mild panic. Thanks to her mom's genes she could pass as a tourist to some more... for lack of a better term, full blooded Japanese people, so this wasn't the first time she'd bumped into someone, and, typically, feeling she was a tourist that got her a lot of angry japanese yelling, so she was really trying to rectify this mistake. "H-here let me.." Her own bag hadn't spilled out luckily, pushing to her feet as she held the package in one hand and the magazine in the other... the... very choice magazine....
She casually turned it the right way, an image of her from an Asta shoot sitting against a prop motorcyle on a summery backdrop, a light smirk coming to her lips... probably just... fell on that page by coincidence right? Still, she couldn't help offering it back across with a mildly smug smirk, though she was at least trying to hold it back by curling her lips inwards. "So er... half of me is hoping this kiiiiinda happened to turn a few pages when you dropped it but... hey i'd be flattered either way.~"

Thwack!
Kai let out a surprisingly girly squeal, toppling backwards with a lack of grace you wouldn't expect from someone usually capable of traversing urban sprawls with such ease. As she fell backwards, she thankfully managed to not sit on her satchel and destroy all the packages, that would have been a disaster, both for her backside and for her business. Still she'd probably have to check on them, make sure they weren't super damaged. Oh! First of course she had to get up! That was step number one!
She groaned softly as she sat up, rubbing her forehead only to realize her hat was missing. As she blinked and patted the ground around her for it, the woman she had bumped into began quickly apologizing! That wouldn't do! It was clearly Kai's fault for not looking where she was going! "Hey hey, don't worry about it! Totally my fault, shouldn't have-"
Uh oh.
Uh oh.
The red hair. The figure that was now burned into her brain thanks to that magazine. The face. Yumi Tasukai. Seems both fate and Mother Nature were being moody today. Wait, the magazine! She saw it just as Yumi was picking it up, letting out a deep groan of realization. "...Well I've gotten myself into a bit of a snafu, haven't I?" She let out a small chuckle, hopping to her feet, though her cheeks were colored a deep shade of red. From this vantage point she noticed her hat, which she quickly grabbed from the ground, placing it back on her head where it belonged.
Clearing her throat awkwardly, she placed her hands on her hips, giving an apologetic little smile. "I think this is the part where I'm supposed to say 'It's not what it looks like!' but that just makes everyone seem more guilty, huh?" A little shrug followed, holding her hand out with a bright smile to greet her new and let's hope to god not final client. "Name's Kaisaki but you can call me Kai! Delivery girl and owner of Golden Sun Direct Delivery! I believe you have a parcel waiting to be delivered from us, Ms. Tasukai! Which... probably makes this whole situation into one right mess, I do apologize!" Quickly she wiped the sweat from her brow, hoping she'd at least smoothed it over a little.
What were the chances, huh? That she just happened to find a risque magazine of the person she was delivering to just as she was quite literally bumping into them headfirst. Her life was weird. "My uh... viewing habits do not reflect the values of this company and-... urgh, look I'm real bad at this, I'm super sorry!" Kai bowed low, placing her hands into a prayer formation, coming back up a few seconds later and realizing Yumi already had the package, which prompted her to pat down her bag and make sure she hadn't lost any other ones. Seemed like it was fine.
"I can certainly say you've got a new fan though! I'm not usually super into fashion stuff but you're clearly very good at it!" Should she have said that? She had no idea. The blush returned to her cheeks as she gave a hearty chuckle, trying to alleviate some of the weird awkwardness, even though Yumi seemed kinda fine with it. Thank goodness she was a nice person! Maybe she'd still get business from her, she could only hope. Then again she'd totally understand if she wanted to just never work with her again, she probably had a bunch of weird people doing stuff like this all the time.

"Yeeeeah it kinda adds to the guilt if you blindly admit to it being a 'snafu' first." She let out a soft chuckle all the same, the still pulsing pain in her forehead actually making way for a bit of a more genuine sense of joy and chuckles at this odd little happenstance, making sure she still got her magazine back whatever the case as she made her way to her own feet. "Honestly though like... don't worry about it. I run a cosplay blog and I model part time so... i've had teenage boys proudly admit they've done worse things thant JUST admiring my centerfold page... though..." She tilted her head, turning the book back to herself briefly to admire the image before turning it back to hand it over. "I will say you picked one hell of an issue to pick up the habit, ehehe.~"
Yumi wasn't exactly the type to lack pride in her body afterall, it was kinda just... cute, really. Besides as sexist as it might sound it was a lot less creepy sounding to be admired by a girl than just some random boy.
"Name's Yumi but... well I'm sure you know that." Despite the awkwardness of that comment she offered her hand across all the same, shaking the girl's hand as she introduced both ehrself and her company, her eyes widening a little as she caught the familiarity of it and let out a soft gasp. "OH! Right! I was waiting for these..." She took the parcel she was still holding in both hands, looking over it making sure it was indeed her parcel with the name on it and all, and tearing into it pretty eagerly, glancing up as she continued to apologize, Yumi letting out a genuine sound of- "Pssssh. Hush up, it's fine really, I'm kinda.... desensitized to it? Probably not the most flattering comment about it all but it's true. Kinda just... easy to shift focus off the creep factor and appreciate the compliment of being admired, right?"
Undoing the packaging she was left with a small box herself, slowing down a little as Kai gave her some more genuine compliments. "Seriously I... I'm flattered but don't fret too much about it... I mean keep the compliments coming by all means just don't freak about it.~" She offered a playful smile and a wink, more a perhaps trained reflex from dealing with fans she met in passing but a little more genuine when aimed at this girl for some reason. Like she thought earlier, the compliments were a lot less creepy coming from another girl.
FInally, she looked back down to the package, smiling that it seemed to be the right brand. "Ugh, been wanting to do this cosplay for ages..." She held up the pack so the example of the eye was beside her face, a reddy-orangey shade with a slit in the middle for the pupily, not quite as sharp as a cat's but still nowhere near a circle. "What'ya think, think i'd look okay with these in?"

Honestly that was a little troubling that she was getting creeps like that. Kai was lucky in that all she got were weird looks and whistles when she ran in her swimsuit, which were definitely bad, especially when she was in high school but nowadays it was easy just to ignore them. That was probably nowhere close to what Yumi had to deal with... just because she was a woman didn't make that any better. She had to do something to make it up to her. After all, she wasn't just a delivery service, she wanted to be more than that. She wanted to bring smiles to people's faces, brighten their days!
Kai gave a grin at the wink though, at least Yumi was in high spirits about the whole thing, she was happy for that. Whether that was a result of her apologies or not was certainly in debate, hell she had a feeling she'd actually made things a little worse but hey, onward and upwards, right? At the comment about choosing a hell of an issue, she gave a little laugh at her own expense. For someone who prized efficient deliveries she sure was clumsy in some ways. "Yeah I just kinda... saw it on the shelf, saw your name and was like 'Oh hey, I think I have a package for her!' only to realize a few seconds before we bumped into each other that you were wearing uh... well, that!" She scratched the back of her neck with a bashful grin at her own silliness.
When she put in the contacts, Kai let out a little 'ooo~' sound, smiling happily as she stared at them, before giving her signature eager grin. "Looks awesome! Like some kinda powerful demon lady or something! Very intense! What character will they be for?" She'd played a lot of video games and seen a lot of demon ladies but frankly never seen one act as cutesy as Yumi, it was a nice little juxtaposition honestly. If she met any game designers in future she had a pitch at least! Well, for one character. "Though I'm not really sure if there's a cosplay you couldn't pull off, though if I find one I'll be sure to let you know, you seem like you'd appreciate the challenge!" More of a giggle than a laugh this time, she glanced down at her watch quickly and at the parcels in her bag, tapping a finger to her chin in thought.
"I still feel really bad about bumping into you... listen, there's a lunch place on the way to my next delivery, how about we grab something, my treat? My way of paying you back." There were several lunch places on the way to it actually, all serving different types of food. She'd need to ask which one she wanted to go do. Oh, wait, she was getting ahead of herself, she hadn't even said yes yet! No point in picking a restaurant if your guest hadn't even accepted the invitation.

"Mmm. Coulda been worse." She teased softly, shrugging it off when she heard the woman's reason for why she had picked up the issue. "Coulda been another Yumi Tasukai... though honestly that way it woulda just been a fun coincy-dink, not a kinda pervy coincy dink. Not that I'm complaining either way of course." She offered her tongue out with a teasing smirk, crossing her arms over her chest in the same motion. It was kinda... nice, to just turn her brain off and tease this girl a little, though she would be cautious in not overdoing it.
Her expression was still bright when the girl said she'd look like some kinda powerful demon lady. It had the right element she was going for and while she briefly had the urge to correct her... really Kurama wasn't exactly far from that. He was more 'possessing demon' than fox at the end of the day really, and no reason to get all into the anime nerd level of being friends with her when they were still pretty much just strangers... she did have to bite her tongue a little but she was doing well at holding it back.
The distraction of being told there wasn't a cosplay she couldn't pull off did help... once again a compliment like that felt a lot more genuine from a girl and... well unlike any of her friends at UA or... Red, this girl didn't really have much of a reason to lie. These were just sheer, unfiltered compliments and Yumi could admit it might be going to her head a little, leaving her trying to reign it back in a bit before she spoke again. "W-well I don't have the perfect figure for er... everything buuuut I try to do the best with what I have... I-I mean I'm pretty toned but sometimes I use a bit of makeup on my skin to try and define my abs a bit more for the buffer girls I wanna cosplay. They seem to be pretty popular right now and all..." She nodded along with a light chuckle at the comment about 'letting her know' about any challenges. "You definitely should, but if that's a cheeky way to try and get my number you're a little fast on the draw there cutie.~"
... did she just call her... oh what the hell clearly neither of them were good at keeping their mouths shut why kill the mood trying to correct herself. Besides. The girl WAS cute. Not rude if she started the compliment train.
The offer of lunch was still a surprise on top of everything, and for at least a moment Yumi hesitated, glancing to her bag, the train pass she had for getting around, the arcade membership card the... if she got one more stamp at that maid cafe she got a free waffle...?
Oh who was she kidding she had nothing keeping her to her plans and... hell, this girl did seem kinda fun. "Er... I mean if it dosn't keep you from the rest of your work I certainly don't mind but... hey just pay me back with the company. I mean. I'm a model. Would be kinda rude to make you pay for me.~" She offered a playful smile, hoping that didn't really come off as boastful or anything...

A perv!? She wasn't a perv-... Well, considering today's events that might actually be a fair assessment but still! She felt her cheeks light up in another blush, pouting a little playfully, though it broke into a laugh after a moment. "I'd deny me being any sort of perv but I think you've earned the right to call me that today at least! Haha!"
Kai tilted her head a little as Yumi stumbled through responding to her compliments, trying to seem humble. She shook her head a little with a grin. Look at her! There's no way there was a cosplay she couldn't pull off! And she knew Yumi was aware of that, the girl had the confidence, she just didn't want to seem too full of herself. Understandable but come on, she had to have more conviction than that! The girl may not be Red Horn but she had some definition on her, you could tell there was strength in her muscles and flexibility in her form. Long legs, strong hips-
She was starting to see what Yumi meant by 'pervy'.
"No way! You totally got this! I'll bet you a million billion yen that I'll never see you in a cosplay you don't totally rock!" Her grin was wide and happy; honestly Yumi was providing her with a lot of fun, she loved talking to new and interesting people and Yumi certainly was interesting. A part of her hoped this incident hadn't soured her on her delivery service. If every conversation with Yumi was this cool she'd loathe to break that off any time soon! "Besides, buff girls are nice and all but the classics are classics for a reason, right? Good-looking girls like yourself will never go out of style!"
Her number? She hadn't-... Oh dear, she had. She hadn't even realized the implication that statement would have had to a stranger. Kai was blowing this so hard! Her first chance to meet someone rich and famous and she was hitting every landmine on the map! Her cheeks went cherry red, letting out a nervous laugh and scratching the back of her head. And then on top of that she called her cutie. She felt her heart rate spike a little, clearing her throat quite loudly as her face slowly changed shade to an even deeper red. "N-no no, that's not-... I-I didn't mean to imply that I was asking for that, I-... god, I'm bad at this, huh?"
She recovered fairly quickly though with a little shake of her head and a grin. A quick shake of her head, she gave a stiff, proud salute at Yumi's offer to pay for her own meal. "Not at all, ma'am! It would be my honour to pay for your lunch to offset our weird first encounter!" Her eyes scanned Yumi a little, more assessing her character than examining her physical attributes this time. The redhead seemed confident, fiery, powerful and impetuous. All signs of a very competitive woman, much like herself! "Hmmm... since I get the feeling we won't agree on this, how about instead we make it a little race? We pick a place, first one there gets their lunch paid for. Sound fun?"
Admittedly she was planning on flexing a little; Kai was generally a humble person... most of the time but when it came to running she was at least proud of what she could do. And hey, she looked like she might even be able to keep up! Kai always loved a challenge after all, it was the greatest spice of life after making people laugh!

"Yeeeah not doing yourself any favors at this point.~" She let out a light chuckle from behind her hand... god she'd probably get depressed later realizing this was the first time in a while she'd really managed to have a good laugh about something outside of hanging out with Miss Sonya at work but... nope. Not letting herself get depressed right now.
"Hehehehe... well maybe if we get a chance I can show you how to find my blog. You'll have tens of cosplays to go through and figure out for yourself if your spinning tales or not.~" She considered a sly wink at the end of that but pulled herself back, even if she was having fun here this was literally a girl she'd met through a headbutt a moment ago and she still felt a little tense in her forehead from that, no reason to keep things too... 'engaged' here on the flirting front. She couldn't help but get a little rosey cheeked though as she was considered a 'classic', leaning her cheek into her hand as they got a little warm. "Wellll... I've gotten a little more definition since I started my studies but..." A little vague perhaps, but she wa so used to just hanging out with other UA kids it had just become instinctive that she didn't need to explain why her studies involved getting stronk. "T-thanks though thats... that's good to know~"
She quickly got her own back a little when the girl asked if she was 'bad at this', Yumi giving a borderline devious smirk as she swiveled side to side a little, considering her words. "I dunno... are you saying your bad at flirting or bad at trying not to flirt... cause either way you're absolutely terrible.~" She offered a playful grin of course, not wanting her to take that teasing to heart as... she was kinda enjoying the playfulness. She hadn't really felt safe being herself like this ever since the whole Darren thing... it was a nice change of pace.
Yumi glanced down the path in a random direction at the suggestion of a race... she really shouldn't. She was meaning to relax and what if she tripped or lost her way or, heck, her company on the run, and... she already bumped into one person and it wasn't her usual ru-
No. Nope. This was why she was getting stressed out this morning. "Y-yeah. I know a nice little cafe that's close enough to run. There's a branch of Labelle's nearby? Nice little french themed cafe. Know it?" She pulled a foot up behind her hips, stretching out her legs and tightening the strap of her satchel so it wouldn't swing as much as they ran. "Gotta warn you though.. courier or not I do cardio every day, so I ain't gonna be an easy victory~" She offered a cheeky ass grin across to her soon to be competition, swirling her upper torso in either direction to really limber up. "So... ready to go blondie?~"

A blog huh? She rarely had a lot of time to sit on the internet except at night time and even then it was often hard to focus if she'd worked especially hard during the day, but seeing a pretty girl in cool costumes couldn't exactly be a waste of time, right? Especially if she was going to be delivering more cosplay supplies to her. What a morale boost that'd be to see the things she delivered in action! Her eyes almost sparkled at the thought, her smile becoming both excited and determined to do her customer and new friend proud! Interesting though that her studies were giving her a toned body. Maybe she should have signed up to whatever studies she was doing instead of going through her useless-ass high school and getting crap grades. Then again, she'd have ended up in a job like her sisters, pushing pencils in an office somewhere... yawn-errific. Before she could ask about it though, the topic shifted to her absolutely useless attempts at... was she flirting? She wasn't trying to! Or... was she? Honestly she didn't know, which was probably why she was coming off as so weird and awkward. "Well hey, if I'm terrible at one and terrible at the other, I figure it balances out in the middle somewhere!" She let out a hearty laugh, grinning widely and giving Yumi a little nudge on the shoulder. "Besides, I made you smile, that should count for something, right?"Labelle's... hmm... Ah! Yes, she knew that place! Off the corner of one of the streets leading into Shibuya, she had a package to deliver to the apartments around it once. Lovely old woman, very cute kitties! One of her biggest deliveries too, a whole cat tree! She had to strap it to her back and constantly keep from falling over, as if her life was a game from Mideo Mojima, some kind of 'strand-type game', whatever that meant. "Yep, I know it! Never been inside though, wonder what kinda stuff they serve! Oh oh, I hope it's crepes!" She hopped up and down excitedly, clapping a little in a rare show of girlishness, only to then snap out of it, clearing her throat with a soft blush. Her expression turned into a wide grin of determination as Yumi suggested her skill. Kai was liking this girl more and more by the minute! She knew how to get her competitive spirit going! "Oh is that right? Well, Miss Cardio, I think you'll find me much more of a challenge than you expect!" She began limbering up a little as well, jogging in place and stretching her legs; she'd need those more than anything considering how long Yumi's stride probably was. After all, she was certain those thighs of hers weren't just for looks! "Ready?" Kai dropped into a squat before fluidly pivoting and launching herself off in the direction of the west street, calling back with a cheeky grin. "Threetwoone, go!"With that small head start, she'd already covered a good distance. Even though by nature she was a marathon runner, she could sprint when she needed to. The route was fairly simple; Labelle's was only down the main street, turning left and then down an alleyway into the adjoining street but the main streets were packed with people. Dipping and diving around them would be a surefire way to lose. There was a less direct route through some side streets she knew of, which would be much less crowded but take a little longer. If there was a significant gap between them, that would be her plan! As she dashed towards the large crowd of people all either moving towards their places of work or shopping in the various tech stores dotted around the main street, she suddenly switched directions, heading towards a parked car. In one continuous motion she leaped up into the hood of the car, then the roof, then launched herself up to grab the horizontal section of lamp-post above it, using it to vault herself over the largest cluster of people with a graceful somersault. A few people shouted at her or cheered her athleticism, which made her give them a slight grin and wave as she rolled into another dash.

Yumi chuckled a little and shook her head as the other girl’s energy seemed hard to reduce, even when she was kinda accusing her of flirting with her, as flustered as she might get she didn’t seem to lose a drop of energy in how she responded or reacted and Yumi could definitely admire that. Service with a smile was one thing but she’d gotten her package, and headbutt to boot, mostly her own fault, but still… this girl just kept on trucking with energy and she had to admire that. “I don’t think that’s exactly how flirting math works but… yeah, least you made me smile…~”
With Kai seeming to know about Labelle’s Yumi felt more assured she’d picked a good place… there was a chance they were thinking of two separate branches of the same coffee store given it had a few locations since it popped up, buuut given Kai was on board with jogging to it she got the feeling that they must have had the same one in mind, Yumi smirking back across to her a little as she got excited about the crepes. “I dunno I’ve always wanted to try some of those milkshakes they offer. They seem all fancy with special mugs and layers of whipped cream and stuff between the milk. Looks plenty tasty to reward myself too after a good run…~” She knocked the toes of her boots against the pavement behind each heal, lowering a little more into a stance like a runner’s start, something she was a little too used to from her training at UA, and how it seemed to be a great position to dart from when using her quirk. Just an engrained habit even if it may come off a bit ‘try hard’ to someone uninformed. “Don’t worry… I think I can handle y-HEY!”
Watching her dart off before even saying go, Yumi pouted briefly in a huff as she felt her feet scrape across the pavement, her legs whirling beneath her like the road runner almost as she scrambled to get a good start on the unexpected ‘go’ that was chimed out as the blondie already ran ahead, leaping up mid run and yelling out a firm “CHEAT!” to the girl running ahead of her, puffing her cheeks for a few moments more before realizing that wasn’t a face she could maintain if she still wanted to breathe right while she was running.
Watching her dip into an alley Yumi felt best sticking with the main streets, she basically trained for stuff like this having to move through potential hoards of civilians without injuring them. Of course she tended to be FLYING during those training sessions but the reasoning was still sound and twisting on her heels and toes between groups of passer bies left her looking light on her feet, still slowed by them but not hurting anyone and still managing to maintain some strong speed as she moved ahead. Kai was still infront of her though and she huffed once again through her nose, a clearer patch of pavement hitting her as she watched Kai leap through the air rather gracefully and with some spunk behind it to boot. Yumi wasn’t about to win this.. she was faster than the average girl her age but Kai easily outpaced her without her quirk…
But… it wasn’t toooo illegal to try right… so long as she didn’t go full zap…
Spotting a passing car Yumi’s amber eyes grew wide as an idea formed, biting the inside of her lip as she had only seconds to consider it before the car was out of reach. Before she could overthink it she dodged to the side of the group Kai had leaped over and outstretched her hand. With her suit this would be a peace of cake but it took an almost migraine inducing level of focus to pull this off, slapping her hand against the back end of the car, she bounced off the first time, struggling to catch her own feet for a second before the second hit of her hand seemed to stick like glue, Yumi chuckling with delight at the fact it was working. The soles of her boots were thankfully pretty hardy but either way they were about to get fuuuuucked, as the car dragged her along behind it, her sense of balance and sturdiness from her hero training allowing her to keep her feet level as flecks of rubber got shaved off the soles against the tarmac, Yumi glancing back to Kai as the car passed, giving a cheeky grin and a two fingered salute with her free hand. “Chao!~” She chimed back. Of course a hitchhiker like this wouldn’t go unnoticed, and still a few doors away from labelles she’d get tossed into a roll as the car screeched to a halt, expertly catching herself and shooting a grin back to Kai as she continued to run the rest of the way on her own two feet.

With an excited laugh, Kai looked back at her opponent, sticking out her tongue to tease her, calling back with some of that bubbly charm she was so known for. "Sorry! When there's a competition, I play to win!" Focusing her eyes forward, she noticed that Yumi wasn't catching up to her, so she at least had some leg-room to work with. Clearly she was naturally faster but Yumi was obviously the smart type; crafty, with some good instincts. Hell, if she could afford her and Yumi wasn't already working a better job she'd ask her to join the courier service! One of the key skills of a courier was thinking on your feet!
Speak of the devil, she rode past hitching on the back of a car, skidding by the rubber of her trainers. Bold, certainly. Though how was she sticking to the car? Did she have some sort of sticky hand quirk? Maybe she could secret some sticky syrup from her pores or something! She was pretty sweet, after all! ...Oof, even she felt bad for that joke. Looking closer though, she could see that it was like her hand was magnetized to the car. Well that would make sense, right? Cars are metal. Magnets stick to metal, usually. Or, certain types of metal, or... Magnets stuck to things, that's all she knew! Still, a magnetism quirk! How nifty!
The car was proceeding along the street at a fair pace but the speed limit was 30 mph. Narrowing her eyes with a small grin, began sprinting full pelt down the street after the car, falling in behind it. Her grin got wider as she started keeping pace with the car, even though her legs burned from the effort and she could feel her built up stamina from the day ebbing away. She was still about 30ft behind, but it wasn't getting any further away at least. She of course could see the turn coming however, which Yumi couldn't.
As the car turned, Kai dropped low into a skid, extending her right leg out and using her arms to balance herself, slowing as she got to the corner, only to use the coiled strength in her compacted left leg to launch her forward into another full sprint. Yumi had a good 30ft head-start but Kai would be gaining fast, using her superior sprinting speed to close the gap, yet just as she came within touching distance of the red-head and within a few feet of Labelle's, a mother came rushing past with a crying baby in a pram and a phone jammed between her shoulder and cheek, right in between the two. Kai skidded to a halt, her expression turning into a bit of a 'yikes!', as she stopped feet from where the woman walked, getting shot a pretty deserved nasty look.
With that, the gap widened and Yumi would easily reach the restaurant before her, much to the frustration of Kai's competitive spirit but hey, fair's fair. With a hearty chuckle, she walked the rest of the way instead of running, holding out her hand for a handshake, not even winded. Most people got a little freaked out when they realize that sprinting like that technically doesn't even tire her out. "Nice work with the car there! A magnetism quirk! How does it work? Do your hands, like, automatically stick to things or is it something you have to focus?"
With a hearty laugh, she'd do a few stretches to release some of the tension in her muscles, smiling warmly as she enjoyed the after-glow of competition, always enjoying seeing how others deal with problems. "Well, a deal's a deal! You are my guest of honour, ma'am, after you!" She bowed a little, directing Yumi to the front door with a playful grin. Her wallet would probably hurt after this but considering her own eating habits, when did it not?

Yumi was blindly running ahead the moment she recovered from her tumble, just focusing on carrying her momentum forward, her heart pounding a little in her chest. Even with the shortcut she'd taken she wasn't used to a sprint like this without her quirk to back her up. She tended to do her morning runs more as a 'long distance' thing rather than going for speed so her body wasn't fully able to keep up. Yumi could only hear an odd yell from her competition behind her, keeping her eyes forward unless she wanted to physically run into the door, rather than slapping her hand on the door handle as would end up being the case.
"G-got it!" She cheered with a light jump and a thrust upwards of her arm, both of which quickly fell to her knees as she keeled over catching her breath for a moment, her amber eyes flowing back up to the blonde she'd been running with, unaware she'd only really won thanks to a bit of happenstance, but even then Yumi had enough to say, with a vague sense of confidence between her panting breaths. "T-theres... no way... you're that fast... without a quirk."
Pulling herself back up to a proper stance with a final puff of carbon dioxide from her lungs, she glanced back over to the blonde, resting fingers against her wrist as she did to see just how bad her heart rate was after that. "Huh? What'you-" She shook her head, stepping over and tapping the girl in the shoulder. "Nuh-uh! I won so I get to decide, and I decide that it's my treat.~" She playfully stomped her foot to make her point before considering... and quickly taking the girl's cap and putting it on herself. "Buuuut if you really wanna feel like you lost, then I get your cap while we eat.~"
She flashed a cheeky wink and a pull of her tongue before holding the door open for the girl to walk in before her. "Here, why don't you give me your order and you can find us a nice booth while I go up front and grab it? Sound good?" She was still holding a warm smile all the while, and if the girl tried to argue that her win meant she shouldn't be paying, she'd give her another prod of her shoulder and re-iterate that, as the victor, it was definitely her say.~

"Hm? Oh I never said I didn't have a Quirk! I get a bunch of energy from the sun, like a plant or somethin'. Gives me a bunch more 'go juice' than regular people, y'know?" Granted that technically didn't explain the fact that she could run fast but... hey, honestly neither could she, so there you go. She just ran a lot and eventually got better and better at it until she got this way. Maybe her body's special metabolism let her grow muscles faster or something? She'd never really gone to the gym after high school but she'd been running or biking pretty much every day since for at least six hours in college and upwards of twelve hours these days. When she thought about it like that, no wonder she was as fast as she was!
Kai reached out to pat Yumi's head or something as she leaned over trying to catch her breath but she stopped, just kinda clearing her throat awkwardly instead. She'd basically just met this girl under... interesting circumstances, going ahead and giving her headpats was probably a stupid thing to do. A very Kai thing to do but a stupid thing to do and she was trying to do less of those lately. Less stupid, more business.
And yet all that was thrown out the window as soon as Yumi tapped her on the shoulder instead, which made the logical part of her brain basically throw in the towel and say 'Fuck it'. She was kinda taken aback by Yumi's offer to be honest, she'd never had someone insist so hard to pay for lunch! On one hand she really shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth like this but on the other... it felt kinda wrong? She was the one that had wronged Yumi after all, right? Still, her competitive spirit wouldn't let her chicken out of a deal! With a dramatic sigh, she spoke again. "Fiiine, you can pay. Geez, and I thought I was stubborn!"
As she took her hat though, she let out a little squeak, reaching out to take the hat back but stopping with a blush and a small pout. "H-hey, that wasn't-..." She paused for a moment, blinking and looking at Yumi in the hat. Wow, not bad. She didn't protect further, instead just taking the brim of the hat and pulling it down over Yumi's eyes with a chuckle, stepping inside quickly before Yumi could retaliate.
The inside was... very... French. Was that a way to describe it? It was very much a Squarebucks-type place but with a little added twist. Generally not her scene but at the same time, she was here with company. Kai turned on her heel, about to speak her order, before realizing that she generally ordered a a lot of food. Like a lot a lot. She didn't want to embarrass herself in front of her new friend like that! Especially since she was paying! "I, uh... I'll just... take a chocolate and strawberry crepe and a strawberry milkshake." She could already feel her stomach groaning at the thought of eating so little.
Still, once she'd given her order, she found a nice little table beside the window, slipping into it smoothly and humming a little song to herself as she waited. Something had gotten her into especially high spirits today but she wasn't 100% sure what. Was it just the thought of making a new friend? A new wealthy client? She wasn't really sure but it felt nice, like someone had put a helium balloon in her chest and she was lighter than air.

“And I never said you said you didn’t have a quirk.~” She retorted with a cheeky pull of her tongue and a raised finger. “I just said that, given that speedy display of yours, I felt it was kinda fair to assuuuuuume you have a quirk!~ I mean either that or you’re some kind of secret Olympian and when I step inside this café I’m gonna realize I’m on some candid camera reality tv show or something…” She snorted out. “Sorry my… my brain can go places when it’s on a roll apparently.” She shrugged a little sheepishly, rubbing the back of her neck with a mild blush. She’d started that retort confident and cheekily but once she got on a mental roll with that it kinda got away from her a bit, ehehhe…~
Lucky for Kai her own awkward reach for a headpat wasn’t fully seen as such, Yumi would have just expected it to be an offer for a hand shake over the victory or help standing upright again, tugging herself back up to a full stand off the girl’s hand when she caught a glimpse of it out the corner of her eye.
A soft scoff escaped her at the idea that she was being a bit stubborn but.. eh okay, maybe, but she had the means to and if worse came to worse she’d make a few more prints to sell off of her blog or something so it wasn’t like she’d be at a huge loss about what to do or anything, a casual shrug coming at the girl’s cutely frustrated refusal of the terms. “Oh come on. Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth… especially if that gift horse is pretty enough to end up in a magazine.~” She offered another cheeky tongue pull there, tipping the cap she’d stolen from the blonde and stepping to one side to let them slip in through the held door. “Don’t worry, you’ll get the hat back when you have endured your punishment of a paid lunch. This is my guarantee that you won’t sneak money into my purse and run away. The hat is my hostage.~”
Bit far…? Maybe but she kept a nice cheeky tone all the while so she hoped it was still funny. Besides Yumi gasped in ‘true appall’ as the rim of the hat was pulled over her eyes, following behind her as she adjusted it and flicking the side of Kai’s head as she walked past her to the counter. “Such a sore loser…~”
With the order in hand, Yumi raised her brow. “Pretty slim lunch if you’re gonna be running around all day but… hey if that’s what you want.” She shrugged and offered a warm smile, heading over to the counter. Despite the starbucks atmosphere it also promoted a very quiet air. The kinda place you could never expect every seat to be full for, but in a nice way. As she gave out her order she’d soon enough be served, and sooner still turning about with a tray in hand to balance everything on, spotting the head of blonde hair and moving in to sit down, sliding it between them and taking her own share.
“Oookay. Crepe and milkshake for you…” She offered those out first. “And strawberry with ice cream milkshake, cheesecake and fudgecake slices, a crepe, a tea to warm me up afterwards aaaaaaaand” She pulled off a simple ‘meal deal’ type sandwich in a carboard container. “A sandwich incase I don’t like the crepe.~” She giggled excitedly, grabbing a fork and going for some of the cake first. “Mmmf..~ Hope you don’t mind me pigging out a bit. I told myself this morning this was gonna be the day I try and… I dunno. Work off the rust?”

"Hah, no way I could steal your spotlight anyway, reality TV or not!" She gave her her usual charismatic grin, not really intending to be flirty but it probably came off that way, especially considering the way they'd met. If she was honest she wasn't really sure what had come over her, she was normally never this flirty or teasing. Maybe the circumstances of their meeting just kinda broke down the barrier a bit? Like she didn't have anything to worry about anymore in terms of filters.
Feeling herself blush a little as Yumi took her hand to stand, she blinked but didn't really say anything about it. It was just the first time in a long time a girl had taken her hand, which is a sentiment that soon made her feel pretty sad. She needed to get a love life already, soon mom would be getting on her back about grandchildren or something like she was doing to Mako-chan and her husband. Yikes. Wouldn't want to be them right now. "Well hey, you got me there, you certainly are more than pretty enough to be in those magazines! I hope they're paying you enough!" A loud, hearty laugh escaped her lips and a playful slap on the arm.
Her hat was being held hostage? Well that's not nice at all! She gave a little pout, but accepted it nonetheless, proceeding into the restaurant as mentioned before. However, she narrowed her eyes through that pout as she was called a sore loser. She wasn't a sore loser! Hmph! "Nuh uh, you're just a sore winner!" As she gave her order though, she felt her stomach leap for joy as Yumi mentioned that she should probably eat more but her brain screamed 'NO!', so she didn't correct herself, as much as she'd probably hate herself later for that one. It's not like she really gained a huge amount of weight but dang it she knew the types of looks she got when she went to a restaurant and ordered like four meals! She didn't want her new friend to look at her the same way... e-even if the stuff on the menu did look pretty great...
And yet as she returned with the tray in hand, all Kai could do was blink, looking at all the food on it. It felt like her stomach was going to climb out of her throat and go at it directly. Stupid! Stupid stupid stupid! She should have just ordered what she wanted! Her soul cried out in anguish at all the things she could have been tasting. It all looked so good! So gooood! It almost brought a tear to her eye. Instead, she gave a smile and took a sip of her milkshake.
It was good! Well, of course it was, look at it, it looked amazing! But also it had been so long since she'd had lunch with company and everything tasted better with company! "Nah it's all good, girl! What's been getting you rusty?" She took a bite of her crepe and just kinda lost herself in the bliss of it's taste, her eyes sparkling with glee at the texture and the warmth. Before she knew it she'd let out a tiny little squeak of happiness, before coughing awkwardly and trying to pretend that didn't just happen. "It's been a weird time, gotta say. That weird announcement on the TV from that scary looking lady... the crime rates going up... makes me thankful I'm fast enough I can outrun most people, y'know? Soon as something scary happens, pow! I'm outta there! On that note, never show me a horror movie." It was nice to laugh like this despite the weird state of the world, to just... hang out with someone. Maybe that was the weird feeling she had in her stomach from earlier?
She'd been so busy setting up her business, being friendly to the people she delivered to that she'd neglected her already pretty bare social life. Maybe she should just... take the day off? Or at least just enjoy this moment for as long as she could. Yumi was good company, it wasn't like she was going to be wanting for something fun to do, y'know?
