"Oh just... school and stuff?" She responded to the question as to what had her so rusty, casually shrugging it off and taking the straw of her own milkshake, a little taller than the other girls but that was just to make room for the odd ice cream mix that had been added to it all, humming along as she took in the syrupy and sweet goodness of the treat, settling back into her seat as she casually took forkfulls of everything else on her plate, humming quietly to herself idly as she did so. "And er... she's part of it, I guess..." More directly so given the hit list but.. Yumi wasn't gonna freak out someone she just met by unloading on them like that. She just tried to focus on the good of the moment, the treats she had infront of her and the good company. She did however add. "W-would you mind if we... don't? On the whole Ishtar thing? I-I appreciate you trying to make conversation but it's been such a huge topic around my school I really can't handle that stuff anymore..." She didn't mean to be rude but... it kinda seemed like a fair request to make, even without the full context surrounding Yumi. She did chuckle a little with the horror movie comment at least.
Trying not to leave the weight of a new topic on the other girl herself, she tried to shoot off a little of her own topic. "So er... how's the courier business? I guess? S-sorry kinda... cliche to ask but I'm definitely curious? I kinda just spotted a quirky add that got my attention but I imagine 'on foot deliveries' is a bit of a niche service? Does your company get much work?" She took another bite of her chocolate cake this time, groaning pleasantly as the flavor hit her tongue. Without much thought she'd take another piece of chocolate cake, offring it across. "Try some.~"

"School, huh? High school? You gotta be at least a third year, you look about the same age as me!" With a grin she leaned back in her seat as she looked over her lunch partner, thinking back to the race. She moved way too fast and way too well for someone without significant training. Granted, she hadn't had either of those but she's likely been running and climbing for a lot longer at this point. Only way you could get that type of training would be at U.A. right? Unless there's some spooky underground club that trains villains or something but that'd be ridiculous! Besides, Yumi wasn't a bad lady!
And yet every other U.A. student she'd met had proudly announced they were a student which meant either one of two things. Yumi was incredibly humble and didn't want to come off as bragging or something about telling people she was from U.A. was getting her nervous or scared. Or both, really. That was an option too.
The fact that she wanted to so quickly move on from the Ishtar discussion only seemed to confirm her thoughts. Yumi had something weighing her down, holding her back, keeping her on edge. She'd met enough people in her life to know when something was going wrong; though usually it was with cases of domestic abuse or something but this felt more serious than that. Like it was a lot of problems all piling on top of each other. Kai wasn't a psychiatrist, nor a doctor of any kind, she wouldn't be able to fix anything Yumi was going through any more than a monkey could figure out the inner workings of a supercomputer. Add to that the fact that they'd only met like an hour ago and suddenly Kai felt a little bit of hopelessness fill her stomach. She'd never encountered anything like this before.
No! There had to be a way to help, even if it was just giving her some sort of distraction! "Yeah, 'course! Sorry, I just kinda say what comes to my head sometimes, hehe! Gets me into trouble all the time!" A huge topic around her school, huh? Realistically that could have been any school, hell the whole world was talking about it but it'd especially be so at U.A. right? Villains declaring war on heroes meant they were also theoretically declaring war on the students. If she was in U.A. she might be in danger, that might be why she was so hesitant to say anything. Best thing to do was keep it quiet. As far as Kai was concerned, this girl was from some random high school who just happened to have a quirk.
She took another few bites of her crepe in quick succession, stuffing her cheeks full of the sweet goodness with a soft squeal of happiness, only to then blush and try to swallow it all at once as she realized what she must look like right now. This got even more frantic of an effort when Yumi asked her a question, trying to get the crepe down her throat so she could answer already! After a moment, she succeeded, panting a little before answering. "Well, when I'm not drowning in crepes, it's going pretty well! Office is still a bit uh... well, drafty on cold days but at least I have an office now! Back when I started I was just delivering stuff from my house and it was impossible to find anything!"
Resting her chin on her hand as she thought, slurping up some more of her milkshake, she considered how to answer the question a little better. "Admittedly it is a pretty niche business but... I always loved just making someone's day with a parcel back when I worked for the regular postal service? Knocking on someone's door, seeing them all excited for something they'd ordered. Wanted to do that for as many people as possible." She gave a little shrug and a grin, tossing one of the strawberries from the crepe into her mouth. "Beshides, I'll get a van eventshually! Jusht a matter of time!"
She tilted her head as she considered Yumi for a moment. "What sorta stuff do you do for fun, Yumi?" Yet as she offered the cake for her, she blushed a little, staring at it. It looked so inviting, so tempting. Her eyes sparkled with want, almost drooling at what it must taste like. It must be so delicious! Before she knew it, she had clamped her lips delicately around the piece of cake with a soft 'mmph!', before letting out another tiny squeal of joy. She was right! It was so good! All this food was so tasty! Oh, why didn't she just order a bunch like she usually did!? Her stomach felt like it was screaming at her.

"Er..." She... why was she hesitating with where she went to school? Maybe it was because this was the first person she'd really interacted with outside of school who didn't in some way, already know where she went to school, like a pro hero or Miss Sonya. She took a slow breath as she realized that, feeling weirdly annoyed about the fact but mostly just shrugging it off as she went to answer. "Yeah, I'm a third year. I actually go to UA and I was a bit old for the first year when I joined so er, I'm actually 18." She shrugged just casually at that, not bothered by that or trying to make a statement of it, just giving the girl an idea of her situation. She thought briefly a bit more about why she hesitated but... the most she could think of is maybe she just didn't wanna brag about it or make that her 'identity' with someone. Being a UA kid had it's baggage afterall.
She shook her head a little as the girl apologized. "Nah nah it's fine, its a, ya know, 'current topic' and all it's just one I've personally had my fill of ya know?" She didn't mean to come off like she didn't care, cause she did, but that was simply enough the truth. She'd been deep into this topic for some time and it was just burning her out. She felt she'd feel the same even if there wasn't the stress of being on their hit list. At least back when Thunder was the key threat things were a bit more... random. Ishtar came off smarter though, which just made Yumi more stressed wondering what her next move was. With Thunder you didn't even have to bother attempting to predict them and that came with an odd sense of relief for her fast-thinking mind.
Her tensions thankfully lifted a little as she chuckled with the girl opposite her and her 'drowning in crepes'. "Well at the very least I'm glad you like it... you need me to get you a water to wash it all down with?" She knew the girl had the milkshake but the offer was half genuine, she hardly wanted her potential new friend choking afterall. She did tilt her head a little though. "Oh do you guys work out of a warehouse?" She assumed, what with it being a packaging business. "Ugh those places can get real drafty... you'd be surprised how many bad guys work out of abandoned ones. You think we'd just put security cameras in 'em all, ehehe..~" She... wait, Yumi lifted her head as she realized something. "Out of your house... is it your own company?"
She was still glad to hear about it, smiling warmly when the girl detailed how much she loved just deliveirng things and seeing happy customers. Yumi wondered if she just blocked out a huge chunk of impatient assholes but she wouldn't bog them down in the negatives. "Well so long as you're doing what you love... personally I was looking to have my little relax today like I said? I had plans to like, go to a maid cafe which..." She gestured around them. "Close enough~ And maybe go to the arcade and pick up some fabrics on the way home, maybe work on a new cosplay for my blog into the night."
Seeing the girl before her enjoy the cake so much, she took the fork back but picked up the plate with the chocolate cake, offering it across and laying it on the other girl's side of the table. "Here. I'm probably not gonna finish this all anyway.~" She lied, buuuuut she did have plenty, and she liked seeing Kai smile.

Or she was just gonna come out and say it, that was certainly an option too. Eighteen!? There was no way she was eighteen! She was so shapely! Kai was almost jealous, she wished she looked that good two years ago, damn. "U.A.! Aaah so you're a hero in training then!" Still, she seemed to be hesitating, which meant it probably wasn't best to press the issue. After all, Ishtar was probably discussed by every student on campus all the time forever, plus admitting she was a student might also put her in danger. "Don't worry, I'll keep it on the down-low!" She gave a little wink and her charismatic grin, a childish little chuckle escaping her lips. It was fun being privy to something like that, even if it probably wasn't a secret to most.
Hell, now that she looked at her with that context, Kai recognized at least a few things about her from previous Sports Festivals and news stories. But didn't that girl have lightning powers? Was Yumi her twin or something with magnet powers? Her physics teacher had always told her that magnets and electricity were connected but she could never figure out how that whole thing worked. Didn't make sense to her. "Yeah, I get it. Honestly I barely even watch the news anymore, just whatever I catch when I'm in the office on the radio or at night when I'm not reading manga."
She felt a little embarrassed she'd almost choked to death in front of a pretty girl she'd just met but it was nice to know she was at least entertaining in her awkwardness. That had been the goal from her beginning, was to lift people's spirits even if she had to make herself look like a goof to do it. Not that she had to try very hard to make herself look stupid sometimes; most of the time it happened on it's own but y'know. "Nah, I'm good! Got my milkshake! It's cold and tastes better than water too!" Maybe she shouldn't be a saleswoman. 'Tastes better than water' wasn't a very good slogan for a milkshake.
"Mm? Nah, not a warehouse, just a dingy little office space on top of a cafe. It's a bit run down but it's mine." As for bad guys working out of abandoned warehouses, honestly she had been wondering the same thing! If it was always abandoned buildings and warehouses, shouldn't those always be the first places to look? There couldn't be that many in Tokyo! "Yeah, like... you'd think bad guys would be more creative. At least in manga it's like a big dark castle on a hill somewhere with spooky lightning. There's a certain aesthetic there!"
Blinking in surprise, she realized that perhaps she hadn't made it particularly clear that she was the only one in her company. Most would assume she's a part of one of the bigger ones around Tokyo, after all, it was only natural Yumi came to that conclusion. "Yep! Inoue, Kaisaki, owner and sole trader of Golden Sun Direct Delivery here! Went through two years of business school to get a degree so I could make it and enjoying every second. Money's... y'know, not amazing but I get by." She grinned, giving a quick salute. Proud as she was that she was running her own business she knew there was plenty of big competition out there. Bigger competition than she could reasonably fight. But this wasn't about fighting them, it was about providing excellent customer service wherever and whenever possible.
She giggled at the idea of a maid cafe. She'd never been to one before, they were often closer to Shibuya and Akihabara, while most of her deliveries were towards the suburbs. Only people able to pay her rates, she supposed. "That sounds like a fun time! Always loved arcades myself, even if I only really play the racing games when I go. Never been to a maid cafe though, what're they like? Oh oh and whats on the docket for the blog today? Someone I'll recognize?" Her smile radiated excitement, enjoying the small talk a whole lot. It was nice to just talk about mundane things, she knew that first hand, after all that was generally all she tended to talk about these days.
As the cake slid over to her, she initially raised a hand to protest but her stomach growled loudly before she could speak. Her face went beet red and she hit it softly if only to punish it for speaking out of turn. Her expression became a nervous smile, wishing Yumi hadn't heard her stomach decide to be a little shit but that was unlikely, it was pretty loud! "T-thanks... hehe..." She couldn't help but giggle a little at the situation though, which turned into a full on laugh. "I'm such an idiot sometimes! My stomach was telling me 'Kai, gimme more food!' and I didn't listen because I didn't want to seem like a pig and now I just look stupid. I should listen to my stomach more often, haha!"

"That I am." She returned to the other title UA students could go by. It wasn't all encompassing, support class students afterall but she could confirm well enough that she was in the hero program, though she supposed that'd become pretty obvious the more they talked. Most support kids students were braniacs afterall and Yumi didn't believe she was anything close to that. "It kiiiinda helps if it dosn't sound like all your cheery words are ending with an exclamation point, but... don't worry. There's not too much reason to keep it hidden or anything." She shrugged casually. They were in a nice place afterall. Not one of the shittier parts of the city which Yumi had been advised by police to avoid ever since her name was put on that stupid list.
"Hhehehe. If you're sure. honestly though if you need another drink or anything don't worry about it." She nodded warmly, continuing to suckle her own drinks and taking chunks out of her cakes. With the cheesecake left to her she was mostly focusing on that. The crepe was nice but she was in the mood for focusing on her deserts, always making sure to get some of the bready base with each slice so the sweetness didn't overwhelm her taste buds on it's own. "Glad to meet someone who also appreciate strawberry milk too though. I always seem to bump into people who like bannana and chocolate, never the glooooorious beauty that is the pink nectar.~" She stuck her tongue out, hoping to make it extra clear she was just playing about.
She listened to the girl describe her set up, and when she realized it was an office, but it was still drafty, Yumi felt a little bad for her but... her energy was still pretty infectious. She could tell she definitely had pride in her business, or at least energy behind it and how she ran it. Yumi really couldn't falt her on that in the slightest, just enjoying the energy she exuded. She felt like she should maybe... she didn't actually know, say something? offer condolences? like it musn't be all that nice to have a drafty office but... she was still so energetic it was hard to maintain that idea she should be needing to feel bad for her. "Heh, Yeah you would think so huh? Guess it's hard to beat the classics though like... yakuza boss or... evil CEO..." She mumbled that last part. "Personally I just work out of a room at my place, makin' cosplays and shootin' them. Sometimes i grab a camera and go out and about but, yeah, i guess having a proper office is better than just working out of any old room in the house.~"
Hearing more about the business Yumi could almost feel the energy of the blonde infecting her before her mood could dip again, chuckling a little, not rudely, just... thoroughly enjoying the energy she exuded, giggling a little. Not to be rude but just feeling that energy herself and it bubbling over into her voice. "Well, as a budding business woman I'll be sure to support your company in the future.~ Seems only fair given I know it's ran by such a sweet girl now.~" She still felt that dip when she mentioned money was hard but... she could still see that general brightness behind her eyes. She was doing something she enjoyed. Money was never gonna be the problem by the look of things...~
She wondered as it came up if she should invite the girl to join her to the arcade. She didn't know if she had any more packages to deliver today so she didn't wanna ruin her business or anything like that by distracting her buuuuut... it was nice having company, keeping her from scheduling her relaxation day, keeping her on her toes in a good way that let her just... not fully set into a rhythm. Ugh. It was weirdly hard to make a nice sounding metaphor for 'enjoying chaos'. Rhytms and schedules weren't typically negative things afterall. "The maid cafes can be really fun if you get the right one... you need to be careful tho, some of the places hire really under-trained girls and.. I get it, it's just a job, but it really sucks seeing them trip over their feet or mess up a meal and try to play it off all cute when it means my meal's been ruined." She chuckled a little, shaking her head. "Thankfully wherever i go they tend to realize the only girl eating their won't fall for their acts.~" She took another sip before going on- "I was thinking maybe doing that mechanic girl from that old alchemy anime..." She idly pulled out her phone, flipping a few tabs on her browser, offering across an image of her in a pretty well done, less ecchi cosplay of a female Edward Elric. "Already did the protagonist afterall."
Kai now had Yumi's blog on her phone, and would find it easy to flick to other pictures or the whole gallery if she wanted.
"And hey don't worry about the cake. I've got a quirk myself. I know our diets can be er... a bit extreme, and all.~" She shrugged casually, enjoying the last of her own cheesecake. "I was thinking about hitting the arcade for sure though when I'm done here... maybe we could get you another snack on the way out and.. hit up the arcade? I-I mean if you have the time, I don't wanna keep you from your work."

Maybe she was wrong then, about her being scared to say U.A. I mean she did seem pretty damn powerful considering she managed to beat her in a race and also stick her hand to a car, it's not like any villain was getting the better of her even in a surprise round. She could repulse them with super magnetism or like... make a bunch of metal stuff stick to her like armour! Or or make them stick to something heavy and metal like a car! Wait what was she thinking about?
Oh, U.A.! Right!
If she wasn't worried about it then she supposed there was no reason to dwell on it, right? Yumi knew more about her own feelings than she did, Kai wasn't a mind-reader, even though that would be a pretty sick power! "Well in that case, I guess there's nothing to worry about. Besides, you're all good here, you got the best delivery woman in Tokyo to protect you. Never lost a package yet!" She gave a pair of finger guns and a wink, alongside her grin, trying to play up the goofiness so she could get a little laugh. Kai hadn't known Yumi long enough to tell when she was thinking about something sad, so to counteract that her strategy was to just make Yumi happy. As often as she could, however she could. Something about that felt so important to her.
Over the course of their conversation, Kai had discovered the joys of taking some of the cake she'd been offered and washing it down with the strawberry milkshake, getting a little mix of strawberry and chocolate without it being overpowering in either direction. So when Yumi pointed out that she liked strawberry too, she reached out on impulse, her face lighting up with just pure, beaming joy. Her hand grasped her wrist excitedly, in a friendly manner. "I know right!? Ooooh my god, it has such a sweet yet... I dunno, bright taste? Like it always lifts me up! Oh, sorry!" She let go of her wrist with a little giggle, taking another swig of her milkshake.
Maybe touching her like that was a bad idea, who knew? Kai was an excitable lass, this was just how she showed affection. Her talk of yakuza bosses or... whatever she'd just mumbled to herself would have been pretty scary to most but Kai was fairly removed from it all. She'd seen the news reports, she'd seen the higher crime rates but... It hadn't really sunk in yet. "I suppose. Can't really match the premium aesthetic of a good manga villain though! Unless that villain is some weird alien rabbit woman from the moon." A ridiculous example, that would never ever happen in any manga! Especially not a super popular one!
"Nothin' wrong with working from a place you're familiar with, right? Hell it might be easier with cosplay, being in some of those costumes must be uncomfortable for... a lot of reasons!" She thought back to the costume she'd seen her in, with the tube top. Looked great but that must have been pretty tight on the old uh... the old... y'know, the old chesticles. The smile she got when Yumi spoke about supporting her business was so genuine. But large and bright like the others, just... happy. The fact that she had affected her in such a way that she was willing to support her even despite her antics was a point of pride but it also just displayed how good of a person Yumi was. Though the 'sweet girl' comment made her blush profusely, fanning herself dramatically with a grin. "Geez, making a girl blush over here!"
She returned to her cake for the moment, quickly shoveling it into her mouth in bites just to experience the taste and texture more. As she listened to Yumi speak about the maid cafes, she tilted her head a little, picturing them in her mind. It might be cute to see clumsy girls like that but at the same time when you're looking forward to your meal it was more a momentary feeling of goodness than the satisfying feeling of a well cooked meal. "I suppose it is a place for part-timers to go and earn money right? Suppose it'd make sense if some are more into it than others. I'm sure you got them sorted though! Hard to mistake that hair after all, it's very distinctive.~" With that, she finished her milkshake, closing her eyes and shivering with a little smile as she enjoyed the last few drops.
When the phone was presented to her, she blinked a little, taking in the cosplay she was shown. Certainly less revealing than the one she'd see but no less well done! The coat especially seemed to frame her really well. Not necessarily exuding raw sexual energy, more just... beauty, for beauty's sake. Something powerful and strong. Strangely, it felt like it encompassed a part of Yumi she hadn't seen yet but... she wanted to. If Yumi was a hero in training, she was eager to see how she worked sometime. "Yeah, I've seen this anime! Wasn't there two versions of it? I think I only saw the second version. Wow though, you look awesome in this! Like, the photoshoot in the magazine was a dayum but this is different. Got a different vibe to it. I like it a lot!" Accidentally she flicked down to the next one, seeing her in a cosplay from a particularly risque anime about a pair of angels. Loudly, she cleared her throat, going beet red. "G-geez it uh... really fluctuates huh? Phew!" With a soft laugh, she fanned herself gently. "Would it be creepy to ask for the link to that blog at this point?"
She was mostly kidding. Mostly. I mean, she loved a nice looking lady as much as the next girl and... y'know. Yumi was just that, a nice looking lady. A very, very nice looking lady.
The arcade? Well, she did have those packages to deliver but... she hadn't had a day off in like two weeks... would it be so bad to just deliver them in the slot tomorrow? Technically the window was three days anyway, it's not like they'd be waiting longer than they were supposed to. Yeah. Yeah, fuck it. "I'm in!" She said with a grin, finishing off the last of her cake and crepe. "It's a date! Er- Not like that! Like a friend date! A friend date! Not-... Geez, add that to the tally of bad word choices today."

Yumi let out a little chuckle and giggle at Kai’s decleration that she was there to protect her, nodding along with a bright, warm smile as she played along with the concept for a moment. Truth be told though for a civilian she was still certainly impressive. Parkour wasn’t exactly a method used to take down villains directly but her ability to move like that at such speeds? She definitely had some skill behind her to pull it off, or hey maybe just some innate talent. Yumi certainly wouldn’t mind seeing what else she could pull off when a package she was delivering was sooooo close to being late. “Well you have curved lightning to protect you in turn.~” She playfully raised her glass, pause as she realized she might need to explain that. “Er… that’s my hero name. Not the most creative I know but… eh. I like it.~”
Yumi did jolt back just a little when her wrist was grabbed with that burst of excitement, just a little stunned by the sudden energy even from a girl who seemed to give the impression she was nothing but a giant battery in human skin. Still, Yumi was glad they were on the same page, the briefly stunned state she was left in leading to a bit of a chuckle as she nodded along. “Yeah I know! I mean… ugh I just don’t get what the appeal is with the others if I’m honest? Any chocolate milk I try is always either too bitter or too… thick in flavour? And banana… eh, it has it’s appeal, but it’s definitely no substitute when you could be picking up strawberry in my opinion.” She chuckled a little when her wrist was released, waving off the gesture a little dismissively but with a smile to boot. “Oh don’t worry about it. Honestly just goes to show you get about as excited as I do over the concept of the glorious pink nectar.~”
“Oh er, in truth you won’t find many of my cosplays that are all that uncomfortable?” Yumi hadn’t really caught on to the fact the girl may have been referring to the general ‘fluster’ that could come with some of the more revealing ones so- “I try to make sure, even if it takes a lot more material or some hidden straps or something all my cosplays, unless they’re like, a proper suit of armor or something, are all viable to wear out and about? I mean, of course, not everything is ‘appropriate’ for every occasion, but I at least make sure, if I wanted, I could just go out and about in any old cosplay. It’s basically just turning into the new version of my wardrobe, ehehehe…~” Besides, she liked it! Wearing the unique outfits of anime heroines or villainesses was way more interesting that her usual style of vaguely mismatched colors in generic outfits. When it was pointed out she was making her blush, her chuckle got a little more energy as she rolled her eyes. “Oh please, you’re the one burying me in compliments.”
Yumi shook her head as the compliments kept coming, pointing out her striking red hair. “See, exaaaactly what I’m talking about.~” She smirked a little and added. “Though I will admit, before the whole hero thing I was tempted to take it up part time myself, though I’m hardly the best cook either. Still got the cosplay I made for it and all.”
She’d offer another light nod as the girl took in her cosplay, glad she’d heard of it as it was a bit old at this point. “Yeah there was the original anime and the brotherhood edition? Basically the anime was going so fast it out-paced the manga so it started making it’s own plotline. Brotherhood’s the ‘true plotline’” She added air quotes and all. “But personally I think they’re both nice tales in their own right. Brotherhood is undeniably the more fulfilling store but I don’t think it’s worth knocking the original entirely either. It has it’s merits and some unique ideas behind it.~” Her eyes perked up as she realized that Kai must have flicked to the next image in her blog, snickering and taking her phone back to realize what image had caught her eye, shaking her head a little and pulling up the settings of her phone.
“Here activate Bluetooth.” She’d wait for Kai to do just that then find the phone under her name on her own settings. Sending across an invite to a messenger app that most Japanese people would have on their phones (persona 5 logic ftw). In a few seconds easily enough they were set up to talk over their phones without Yumi explicitly giving the other girl her number, and sending her a message with the link to her blog. “There ya go, I used to try and get something new out every week, if not more but er… ya know. Final year. Uploads have been a smidge more sporadic.” She pocketed her phone, not getting bogged down and brushing it off with a casual shrug.
“Nice taste by the way.~” She offered, sticking her tongue out with a cheeky wink and a smirk. “And only a smiiiidge creepy.”
Yumi smiled brighter still of course when the girl was up for going the arcade with her, hopping up and holding out a finger. “I’ll just grab a tea for the road and let them know we’re done.~” She kinda hated people who just left dirty tables for the waiters to spot afterall, felt kinda gross. Once she had a tea for the go, she’d start loading it with half a dozen sugar packets and a couple mini-cups of milk before they left, looking over to Kai as they walked off to the Arcade she’d been planning to go to. “And your sure I’m not taking you out of your way? Like, seriously, don’t think you still owe me because we bumped into eachother or anything, I’m still pretty sure that was mostly my fault.”

"To the best future hero of our age, Curved Lightning!" She raised her glass as well with a little giggle, letting them 'clink' together in a toast. Admittedly she hadn't exactly met many heroes or future heroes to compare her to but if she was able to make people like her smile this much then how could she be a bad hero? After all, wasn't it a hero's job to inspire people? Yumi probably already did that through her modelling and cosplay, being a hero was just extra merit on top of that. Curious name though for someone with a magnetism quirk. "How'd you come up with it? I mean, I dunno if it's the first thing that'd come to might for a magnet hero, y'know? Maybe Magneta... or Attracto the Indomitable!"
Talking about milkshakes was getting her thirsty for another one but she knew from experience if she drank too many dairy things and then tried to do her flippy, spinny parkour stuff she'd just end up unwell. That had been a real bad day when she discovered that the first time. "Yeah I tend to like the really sharp fruity flavours! Pineapple and mango are my favorite ones but those tend to be reserved for fast food places, y'know? I guess they figure they need a good drink to cover up the crap food sometimes. I did, however, have a strawberry and lemon one at one point and ugh it was so good!" She bit her lip, squeeing a little at the thought of getting that drink again, even though she worried it might have closed down by now.
Still though, she was grateful Yumi was so accepting of the weird way she showed excitement. Physical touching was a big part of that; she felt like sometimes she couldn't get her point across properly unless she added some sort of gesture or touch. Was that a bad thing? She wasn't really sure. Maybe she should try using words instead of hands next time, avoid freaking anyone out. It was surprising that Yumi didn't have a lot of physically uncomfortable cosplays though, Kai couldn't imagine wearing something that tight and not being uncomfortable; actually she could but that was only when she went sunbathing in her bikini and didn't work off the accumulated fat, which was rare. She remembered having red marks on her bust for days after doing that the first time, not to mention a really embarrassing tanline.
"That's pretty fuckin' cool, not gonna lie! Getting to select from a bunch of game or manga characters to look like all day seems like a dream and a half. Not that I could probably wear half of it myself, my quirk's a weird one." She gave a little shrug and a happy grin, truly impressed with how much thought and effort Yumi put into her work. It was no wonder she was so popular and good at what she did, you could tell she really, truly cared about it. "Heeey, I like complimenting people! Means if I do something stupid I've usually earned enough points to get away with it, hehe." Kai added a bit of a mischievous wink to that, snickering slightly as well.
And to be honest, the thought of Yumi in a cute maid outfit was rather appealing to say the least. Best not to dwell on that. She'd done enough daydreaming and oggling today, her mother would be ashamed!
As she listened to Yumi explain the situation with the two different adaptations of the anime, she let out a little 'hmmm...', trying to think if she'd seen a place where she could watch the original. She'd remembered one of her friends in high school had told her to avoid it for various reasons but what better expert on manga and anime was there than someone who studied it to make a living from it? "I'll definitely give that a watch then! I tend to have a lot of free time at night to just kinda do whatever I want, so... guess I know what I'm bingeing!" Pausing for a moment, she thought of any anime Yumi might not have seen that she'd enjoy doing cosplays of.
Maybe... Misekoi? Quite a few of the girls in that harem anime were really cute but simply designed; Yumi might be able to get some mileage out of that. "Ever heard of a romance anime called Misekoi? I feel like you'd enjoy cosplaying some of the girls from that! Lots of very bright colors and happy vibes, which people are always looking for, y'know?" She gave a little shrug, smiling happily. It was honestly weird how much fun she was having considering they were just sitting and talking, usually she needed to be doing something to enjoy herself this much.
She only blushed deeper as Yumi realized what she had seen, giving a bit of a 'yikes' face at herself, though it quickly broke into an awkward smile. It only took a second to pull her phone from her pocket and send the invite, connecting both phones, only to get the link to the blog immediately. A small chuckle escaped her lips as she realized that meant she could now talk to Yumi via text as well, which meant it was fairly certain now she'd made a friend. It felt nice to have someone she could text, she hadn't had that luxury besides her sisters in years. "Thanks! I appreciate you giving the link to a 'creep' like me." Kai gave her a little nudge to punctuate the joke, giggling to herself.
Blinking as Yumi questioned her availability, Kai only shrugged. "I mean, there's a three day window for deliveries and I haven't exactly had a day off in ages, so. I think I deserve this one. Besides, I can't pass up an opportunity to beat someone's ass in Outsprint!" She was referring to an old but still very very popular driving game about sports cars in Miami. She'd always wanted to go somewhere like that, somewhere beautiful, tropical and warm...
"We will need to stop by at the distribution center on the way though, so I can change and put my stuff in a locker there. The guys there gave me my own locker if I ever needed to drop stuff off, might as well take advantage of it!" She spoke as she stood herself, slurping what was left of the milkshake stuck in the straw before the waitress could take it, stepping out of the cafe with an excited little spin, taking in the afternoon air. "The distribution center's on the way, we're not going super far off course. Just gotta make sure I take precautions, y'know? Weird quirk and all."
They would hit the center fairly quickly; Kai telling her companion to wait there for a moment, before slipping inside. It only took her a few moments to excitedly stuff her bag and shirt in the locker, leaving her with her shorts, bikini top and a jacket that she tied around her waist. Since it was going to be dark in the arcade and it was starting to get darker anyway, she figured it was probably a better idea to absorb as much sunlight as she possible could before then, hence the bikini top. "S-sorry if this is a little awkward, hehe!"

Yumi would hold off on responding to some of Kai’s questions until they got walking, not wanting to hold them back and take up a table when they could be talking on the go. She blushed a little as she recalled the first think Kai had asked, chuckling a little but with a hint of nerves in her voice. She liked the name but… the background to it was kinda silly. “Well to start I actually have an electricity quirk.” She raised her hands infront of her, spaced apart but still fairly close so as not to risk a loose strand of electrical energy, thin, tiny streams starting at her palm and then running up the spaces between her fingers. “It’s a little hard to control without my hero gear but… I took a risk with the car thing. It’s a whole sciency thing where electricity can produce a magnetic effect? I-I won’t bore you by getting into it… as for the curved half…” She stopped for a step, just… gesturing over herself with a little blush. “Well… easy answer…” She thought for a moment, wincing a little as Red cropped into her mind before catching back up to Kai and showing her necklace, a blue lightning bolt, the kind on harry potter’s forehead, but with curved rather than sharp edges. “I also thought it made a fun logo…” Though she liked it a little less right now…
She smiled a little brighter though with that excitement about her cosplays coming back to mind. It was a habit she’d fallen out of a bit when she’d started becoming a more genuine model rather than just focusing on her cosplay stuff, but all in all it was a nice collection she’d stored, and it wouldn’t be hard for her to break out some themed outfit or another sometime. “Well you better rack up those compliment points cause with the rate you keep tripping over yourself your gonna need ‘em.~” She offered with a teasing smirk as she took a sip of her tea.
“Oh and don’t fret much about watching Half Metal Alchemest. I mean I think it’s worth a watch and it goes into the early stages of the manga in a lot more detail but… generally, it’s okay. Nothing that’s a ‘must watch’ so don’t worry?” She was a bit nervous getting that out, she didn’t like people taking up their personal time on her recommendation and feeling like they’d wasted hours of their life trying to get into it or anything. “Oh and yeah.~ I’ve seen misekoi. Most of the time they dress the same but I have a cosplay of the usual school uniform they wear at least.~”
Yumi wasn’t contesting the idea at all that Kai needed to stop to drop up her stuff, even she’d been a little worried about it getting stolen even if they asked the Arcade guy to hide it behind a counter or something, so she certainly didn’t put up an argument there. When kai whent in to put her stuff away Yumi wondered what she’d come out in if she was changing out of her uniform, nearly spitting her tea at the result she was given.
It… admittedly took Yumi some time to process it, but wanting to be a teacher of unique quirk logic when she grew up Yumi took a slow breath and tried to process this a bit more openly. “Okay… you said you get energy from the sun so… I’m gonna guuuuuuess that you ONLY get energy from the sun, so you’re basically uncovering the solar panels since we’re about to head into a dark arcade?”
She hoped she was right or this was getting very uncomfortable.

So the name had a history. She could tell that even if Yumi didn't really want to explain it all in detail; just from the nerves in her voice. Prying into it would only expose the stress or bad memories or whatever was loading onto Yumi's shoulders and that's not what tonight was about! Tonight was about forgetting all of that and just having a good time, right? Kai leaned in close to watch her fingers spark like that, a look of pure wonder on her face as the watched the little flashes of light. An electricity quirk! So she had been right, technically... sorta. "That. Is. Maximum coolness! Look at you, being an amazing model one minute and zappin' bad guys the next! It's a perfect name!"
The charm was well made, though that seemed to be the focus of whatever bad juju was messing her up so much, considering her hesitation there. Either the person who came up with it or the person who made it were the focus for whatever she was feeling; and that could be just herself, who knew. All it did was make Kai more convinced that this was the right course of action. A girl's night to the arcade. Or... rather, afternoon. Wasn't really night yet. "Definitely a great name and a great logo buuut I don't think I can call you it. Insteeead, I'm gonna call you... Sticky Fingers!" She laughed, giving her a little wink as she jogged on ahead a few steps and then spun, enjoying the cool air and sun. "You've got magnet hands and a massive sweet tooth! Sticky Fingers, the cosplay hero!"
She hoped the joke would be taken well at least, break a little bit of that odd tension she felt when Yumi was talking about her Quirk. Hopefully she'd earned enough compliment points too that if the joke did land flat Yumi would at least be forgiving. Speaking of compliment points... "Well ok, you beautiful, funny, charming, adorable lady!~ How many points was that?" Another laugh, giving her a nudge on the elbow playfully. Normally she wouldn't be so bold but tonight she was a little loopy, a little excitable. There was an energy here and she was riding the current. Hah, current... l-like electricity... She gave an internal groan at that one.
"I mean, I gotta pass the nights somehow, right? I don't tend to need as much sleep as most people so I've got a bunch of hours at night where it's not sunny enough to go outside and I haven't had enough time to build up energy, y'know? There's only so many anime series in the world, I might run out if I start skipping some!" Of course she was exaggerating a bit. She tended to find time to do light housework and stuff to keep her apartment clean or get groceries or whatever but often she'd have an anime or something on in the background while she did it anyway. Half Metal Alchemist seemed as good a choice as any, right?
Y'know, she never got tired of the reaction people had when they saw her in her bikini. Ok, maybe she did when it was guys but when it was girls there was a certain genuine charm there. It was nice to know she at least had something to be proud of! Yumi's reaction gave her a good belly laugh, standing with her hands on her hips as she clearly tried to think of a reason she'd wear something so provocative! How scandalous! "Naaah, I just wanted to wear a bikini top! It always gets a fun reaction!" She tried not to laugh but it escaped her anyway, doubling over in mirth. "I'm kidding, I'm kidding! Ding ding ding! You got it one! My science teacher always told me it was like... how a flower has petals, y'know? Bigger area to catch the sun! Gotta make sure I burn it off though, otherwise I start getting chubby." She gave a confident wink, happily jogging past Yumi back towards the street with the arcade, making sure she was only a few steps behind, stretching her arms and shoulders as she moved. "And apparently we wouldn't want that!"

Yumi chuckled a little as Kai made a joke out of her name, or rather what it should be. The initial compliments on it where nice even if it was just a silly name she came up with on the fly a few years ago, but she definitely didn't mind the reaction it was getting from Kai at the least, offering her a warm smile and sticking out her tongue. "Careful there. Keep coming up with dumb names for me and my sticky fingers are gonna sticky up your entire face.~" A weird insult / threat maybe but it was the best she could come up with to counter her own words. "Besides what would they call you? Swolar panel?~" That worked right? She got energy from the sun afterall~
She rolled her eyes at the compliment barrage too, not offering a point number but instead just swerving close enough to knock the side of her hip against Kai's shooting her a playfully dirty look. "Hush you.~"
Back in the present as Yumi was taking in the new costume her new friend was coming out with, she had a light blush but the expression on her face was more one of disbelief than as if she was actually embaressed observing this or anything, shaking her head in disbelief at the fact that this is what the girl came to. "I'm almost scared to ask what your solution was when you were a kid... or did your parents just not complain about you being a tired little rascal all the time?" She scoffed a little, trying to joke about it and also not stare too much, though she did give the girl one last once over with her gaze before turning her eyes back down the path again. "Flower petals are more used to be attractive, most of the photosynthesis is done in the leaves. Otherwise you'd top a tree with a flower ya know?" SHe offered a cheeky tongue pull. She wasn't actually entirely sure if she was right but she felt confident enough to be cheeky about it.~ She glanced back again though as they stretched before quickly flicking their eyes back ahead. "Appaaaaarently not..."
Kai was a fit young woman so Yumi was kinda curious how the quirk altered them. Did it force her to take in energy as if she was overeating, and then just convert it to fat in some manner? It was something she'd love to ask questions about but somehow she doubted Kai would have all the answers. "You er... sure your okay going to an arcade like that though? They tend to have specific... clientele...."

A little snort escaped her lips at Yumi's attempt at banter, shaking her head with a grin. Clearly Yumi wasn't very good at the insult game, which was fine, just meant she had a better moral code than Kai; that much was pretty obvious. Or maybe she was just a little off game today, who knew? After all she had made it pretty obvious the stress was getting to her a little, whatever that stress was caused by. Honestly though, she had to admit, the name Swolar Panel wasn't bad. Maybe if she had a few more muscles she'd actually go for that. "Whatever you say, Sticky~" A little wink punctuated her joke and a nudge on the arm. She couldn't help but snicker as Yumi clearly took some mock offense to her compliments, giggling as she was hip-barged a little, grinning happily. "Not bad strength in those hips! Workouts must be pretty regular in U.A!"
As a kid? She never really thought about that to be honest, she was always just kinda outside playing and running while her sisters were studying for their 'big important exams'. Back then the idea of exposing more of her skin hadn't really been super thought out; generally she just tended to go into weird fatigue-induced periods of lethargy at times. It wasn't until middle school that things had started to click into place... though that'd make sense, that's the puberty ages. As she quickly discovered the wonders of boyfriends and girlfriends she was also discovering that the sun was kinda important.
"I mean, when I was younger I tended to just stick to summer clothes and not worry about it much. Sometimes the down periods would hit me pretty bad, especially during winter." She gave a light shrug, what's done was done, she supposed. "The biggest challenge was and still is, I guess, sunscreen. It stops me from absorbing the UV light but I have just as much a danger to burning as you. Gotta be careful with that stuff!" She smiled as they traveled together, for the first time enjoying leaving her responsibilities behind herself for one night. One night with a friend who was rapidly becoming one of her favourite people.
"Besiiides, even if I did a prank my parents could never catch me, I was way too fast!" That at least was very true, even from a young age she had been a natural sprinter. The little science lesson was made with an incredulous smirk, waiting for her to finish but giving her the side-eye the whole time. If her best effort managed a C in High School for Biology when she was actually trying, to try and explain anything like this to her was a hopeless endeavor. Not unappreciated, just hopeless. "Maybe petals are leaves, they're just different colors! Aaah, didn't think about that, did ya? Hehehe!"
Another little laugh as Yumi expressed her worry. There was no need; she was used to the gawking and stares. So long as they didn't approach her she had no problem being stared at, besides gathering a crowd at the arcade tended to make her perform better. She enjoyed the pressure. "You mean fat, sweaty neckbeards? I know. Don't worry, I'm used to the stares. Besides, you're here, no way they'd be looking at me with you right next to me!"
They were approaching the arcade now; as they turned the corner the neon of the entertainment district almost blinded her. Who turned the neon on this early in the day? In the distance she could see the church, then to the left of that was her home district. She hadn't been back there in some time... she wondered if mom was doing ok... "Alright, lead the way! You know what arcade you're looking for; probably the ones with all the games you've been practicing." Another cheeky wind preceded her gracefully hopping up onto a closed snack stand in one bounding step, looking out over the slowly growing crowd of people.
She hoped whatever arcade they went to had Outsprint, or at least something similar. She couldn't lose face and look even more pathetic in front of this lady. Wait, why was she trying so hard to impress her. Suddenly a twinge of guilt hit her stomach, which made her talk down to Yumi from the top of the snack stand. "I'm not gonna get accosted by your buff boyfriend or girlfriend for taking you out to the arcade right? Not that I'm scared of course I just don't wanna have to rough 'em up a bit, y'know?" The last part was obviously a joke; earning a mirthful laugh as she squatted low on the edge of the cart and then sat down on it with her legs dangling over the edge as she waited for Yumi to catch up.

She stuck her tongue back out at being called sticky again but little else, she knew the blonde was just playing afterall and it was definitely somewhat funny, it just left Yumi without much of a counter to throw back at her either. The comment about her workouts did get a response however- "Oh yeah. I mean there's not a single day goes by we're not doing some form of training or exercise, and even then I do a lot of stuff in my own time to make sure I keep up. Mostly just cardio runs from my home to the campus every morning, taking the long way of course to make sure I actually have to put some effort in.~ The hips though? That's mostly from how I used to dance to keep fit.~" She offered a sly wink, smirking a little in turn.
She raised her brow a little as Kai started to explain how they dealt with their quirk. She still found it a bit of an extreme difference, how she's gone from summer clothes to practically naked, but she supposed she was just trying to work with the counter effects of having her quirk... "Out of curiosity do you have a medical card for it or anything? I mean, I imagine some places might try and bar you entry if you walk in er..." She gestured over her again, careful not to stare. "Like that?" She wasn't trying to be rude at all but it was a fair question and one Yumi was curious about. Yumi herself had ben barred from public pools as a kid due to her quirk. She'd since been re-examined and was cleared to go to them, but it was a safety hazard when she was young and less in control.
She rolled her eyes at the counter to her comment about leaves and petals, just casually waving the topic off. She didn't know enough to be sure she was right afterall so why bother arguing. "Ooookay braniac.~" Was all she offered back so she didn't seem too rude and dismissive of the topic, just continuing to hold a warm smile between them.
When Kai expressed there wasn't a worry of her getting stared at when yumi was there, Yumi just snickered a little and glanced back across to her. Kai gave the impression her weight could fluctuate but right now... jesus. The girl probably just didn't realize she had it goin' on there. She was shorter than Yumi herself but not to the point that she was 'short for a woman', some cute features, seemed quite young but not so much that she wasn't an adult and... with the bikini it was clear to see the effort that went into being an on foot Courier... "Yeah... given I'm not the one in the bikini I'm not so sure about that.~"
She glanced up to the blonde as they leapt onto the snack stand, ready to lead the way into the arcade, a hand on the door when she caught that question before she went inside, quirking her brow when she felt there was a sense of worry in her tone, the question making her avert her own gaze a bit. "Er... nah. Should be fine. I mean we're just... new pals hanging out right?" She shrugged casually. Besides... Red, from experience, was way too dense to really notice even if Yumi was being flirty with someone which... admittadly she kinda was. It was nice to start doing this stuff again with someone...
She dipped her head to the inside. "Come on then." letting Kai hop down Yumi was in a darkened arcade but with enough screens and neon themes it was still bright neough to see what was going on. Most of the front was lined up with simple single or 2 player joystick arcade machines, a handful of grabber games for toys, but the open space games, the kind with fake motorbikes or car seats, or the dance games, that was where Yumi went first. "Ever played one of these dancing games? Its how I used to blow off steam before UA." She smiled brightly back at Kai, it had been a good while since she'd played one so they're gotten the new model since she last visited.

"That makes sense... I mean, I don't think I've ever seen a chubby hero, at least when it wasn't linked to their Quirk in some way." She gave a little shrug, thinking about it some more as she stared into the sky. "Besides, explains why you have such a good heart to forgive me for being a doofus, huh? If you do so much cardio!" The thought of Yumi dancing to keep fit was uh... phew, was it hot today?
"A medical card? Hmm... no actually, but that's probably a good idea." She considered it for a moment. Doctors were getting much more used to treating Quirkers these days, especially mutants like her; even if she was only theoretically an internally-divergent mutant. She'd seen crazy-looking mutants before, including one lady who owned a bakery that looked like some sort of giant dinosaur! How cool was that!? She needed to go into that bakery sometime, if only to meet a fellow cool mutant! "After all... how's that saying go? No shirt, no shoes, no service? I get the feeling I'll get hit with that eventually, hehe!" She was lucky that she looked pretty normal though, she'd heard stories of Quirkers getting refused at restaurants and stuff before but she had never been refused service. Her sister though... different story.
Her face lit up in a blush as Yumi spoke her compliment, trying to laugh it off with a nudge. She'd never had someone compliment her like that besides creepy guys on the street, even her exes hadn't made her feel good about herself like that. "Oh please, if we were both in bikinis it'd be you every time! I just happen to have to get my tits out for medical purposes." She gave a little chuckle at her own joke, rolling her shoulders to keep them limber and stretched. The sun on her skin was nice and she felt that familiar tingle throughout her body that told her the plan was working. It'd be more or less unnoticeable to the naked eye but even as they walked Kai was getting a tiny bit more filled out.
"Yeah... yeah, just new friends doing something fun." Kai winced a little as Yumi turned back to the door, not sure why that very true statement had stung so much; they had only been hanging out for a few hours. But there was something more, too... it felt like a question Yumi either didn't want to answer or had been forced to answer in a way she disliked. Kai wasn't sure if she had a lover or if it was simply loneliness but she had become suddenly aware that there was so much more to her stress than just mundane job woes.
The fact that she even asked the question was shameful. The ulterior motive was selfish and wrong.
But it only made her more resolute in her mission to make sure that Yumi forgot all of her woes today, no matter how big. With a graceful spin she dropped from the food cart, jogging over to the arcade and slipping inside after her companion, blinking a little from the plastered neon and the jarringly loud music emanating from the machines. Yeah, this was an arcade alright.
She let out a little squeal of joy as she saw the Outsprint machine, leaning against it as Yumi went to the nearby DDR one. "No actually, I've always been a little single-minded." Kai gave a loving pat to the seat she was standing next to, before bounding happily over to the DDR machine, hopping on one and leaving the other for Yumi. "Bet I could still kick your ass though! I learn quick!~" Throwing a few yen the machine, she casually leaned against it, inviting Yumi up to the other dancepad. "Go on, pick a song!~" Her smirk was mischievous and competitive, just like it had been before the race. She'd lost one athletic contest today she wasn't going to lose a second one, even at a disadvantage! After all, everyone loved an underdog story.
Although as they flicked through the song-list she didn't see any she recognized, which made her a teensy weensy bit nervous. At least if it was a song she knew, she'd know the beat... Eh, whatever. She'd pick it up!

"Oh you'd be surprised. I mean, some quirks practically rely on you being chubby but, for the most part, aye your right. That extra process in your body tends to burn a lot of energy and, in my own circumstance, most students even, we have to do a lot of working out on top of that.~ Never wanna be in a position where your quirk is failing you and you can't rely on your own body like a normal law enforcer right?" She caught the comment about her good heart, rolling her eyes again and throwing another hip bump at Kai before they jumped onto the empty food stand. With Kai not realizing she could probably get a medical card Yumi had to wonder how many other people had quirks that probably gave them some medical exemption or other. Maybe a really big person who weighed less than expected having one to allow them on certain mods of transport or maybe someone who was heavier having to inform airlines in advance. Afterall a normal sized person weigh 10 times as much was bound to fuck with an airplane in at least a small way, maybe more fuel expenses or whatever. "You should look into it. I can maybe pass on the info of the doctor who examined me when I was little? He's pretty reasonable about quirks so if you go in for a few tests you could have a card letting you be served wherever.~" She offered a teasing smirk however as she thought to add- "Though I think the fact no ones complained so far is proof enough that you're hotter than you think.~" She didn't think much on how Kai responded to her answer and so started looking out for the DDR machine. Even with the noises of the arcade however it was usually very easy to spot those machines. Either someone was doing very well and there was a crowd around them of the people who couldn't ever hope to move that fast, or there was complete emptiness in the open space around it. Today it seemed to be the latter and the bright lights of the industrial, arcade edition of the machine were more than easy to spot, Yumi almost a little dissapointed the machine wasn't getting any love, nudging Kai with her elbow to get her attention. "Well let's see just how quick you learn.~" She wasn't about to argue about her paying for the first go, Yumi linking her fingers, pushing her hands out to pop them, and then swirling her hip to one side as she lifted her linked hands above her head to the same side, just limbering up nice and good before they went. "My pick huh... well I'm in a silly mood so...~" She scrolled down till a certain icon from early, EARLY days of Pepsi's japanese advertisement came up, gesturing to the screen to get Kai's approval. "Says it's an easy song, how about this to warm us up?" Assuming she was okay with it Yumi would turn the song on and it'd start... hype, to say the least, but it was a slow start as far as the game was concerned. A few simple repeated steps to the beat, less encouraging a dance and more just to get your feet moving. Yumi was still showing at least a sign she was used to playing these games. Where others may feel the need to stamp down on the up arrow with every repeated note, since she could see it was the only note coming as the song was ramping up, she simply tapped her foot against it off the axel of her heel. As the song picked up more moves started coming in, though the pace was definitely manageable, Yumi shooting Kai a smirk as she leaned off the back railing of the machine, throwing a bit of 'flair' into her motions to show off a little how easy this was for her, not even looking at the screen sometimes once she got the rhythm of the buttons.
