It was a draft for young females to do their part of the military force, there was a request for females with Quriks to participate a long quest consisting of various tasks and missions. To bring light to the female side of the military Yuuei gave permission to have their young female students to take on this three day session of constant challenges. Risaka was among those chosen females, and she was not the kind to allow others push her aound. She was by a line of the many females, all of this was so sudden, one hour earlier she was at bed but suddenly pulled out to this campsite far into the land. They even made her wear this tight training uniform that was white and blue. Luckily since the weather was cold all of the participants got jackets and military caps to show they are nothing but more than a bunch of pirvates, maybe not even that. Risaka was just standing there, her clothes already grayscaled with her slightly embarrasing expression, even when everyone was supposed to look the same she was once more standing out, which she indeed hated.
She noticed there was 20 in total, all of them relatively near her age, but she wouldn't be surprised to be one of the older ones, she was after 19 and 20 next year. Earlier they had a man telling them to stand firmly in place until he came back, it has been 20 minutes or so and this quickly got to Risaka. She stunned and looked at the girls next to her. One of them was a brunette while the other one was a blonde tomboy. She felt like she has seen that girl before, but she shrugged it off and kicked a pebble near her feet. Sky was bland and boring, gray and cold, it was very similar to her and she mostly kept staring upwards with how time was getting more and more slow to her. ''Huh, is this what people in the force likes to do at a daily basis? What a hassle and bore, can't believe they dragged me out to this wild place, I didn't know they sent notification about this place! I rarely check that damn school app!'' Thinking to herself a long tantrum she firmly gritted her teeth, she couldn't wait to get back home and do her usual business.

Ah, military exercises... The kind of thing that turned Kanna off from the whole military life, but then again, everything turned the blonde off from the military anyway. She disliked the discipline, the whole idea of being indoctrinated to kill and die for your country, to become the ideal pawn in the hands of some politican you don't even know. Despite her cynicsm over the whole idea of patriotism, Kanna nonetheless recognized the merits of military training to sharpen and hone your body into a weapon, to learn to fight an defend yourself in peak physical performance. That idea alone might have enticed her into trying out these exercises with no strings attached, just to see if she could handle them... And the best part? They were to be excluded from class. So along came Kanna, clad in a tight but flexible blue and white uniform, the standard yet seldom enforced PE uniform that the military guys were so kind to mandate. The blonde complied surprisingly peacefully; if only all military orders wound up being this reasonable she might not loathe the instition so much. Under this dark, dreary sky, she found herself standing in line next to a bunch of other girls; apparently they wanted to promote women in the military to break past that stereotype of boys and their guns... Kanna felt almost tempted to say most women were smart enough to stay away, but alas, knew that not to be the main reason... Looking left, then right, her eyes finally came upon a girl as monochrome as the skies above, one she'd hung out with a week ago. Not too unpleasant and company, but she'd be hard pressed to call them friends. At the very least, Kanna felt enough proximity with her to utter a couple of words: "Oh... Risaka? So you got roped in here too huh...", she greeted, in a tone that might have seemed almost humorous if not for that perpetual nonchalant, deadpan look of the blonde's, casually scanning the girl head to toe. She looked as gray as she recalled, in both senses of the word... That same uniform however, looked far more... Restrictive... On Risaka than herself, and she couldn't help but wonder if the girl actually felt comfortable inside it, with that impressively developed shape stuffed inside a seemingly tight bodysuit. She better, as the exercises they'd likely have to endure would prove unpleasant enough, but considering how well Kanna could move in her own, perhaps the vulptuous gray girl would be fine too.

It has been 30 minutes now, it was now more tiring than boring to Risaka as she was lenaing her head back, giving out a long groan to release some of that frustration. What she didn't know is that the blonde gal was actually the one she met a week ago. it caught her of guard and she honestly felt cheated on by life, it was easy enough for Kanna to notice Risaka and be completely hidden from recognition with the cap on. Risaka of course pushed her own cap up to get a full stare at kanna, one brow raised with a slight nod in sympathy, seems like Risaka was not the only one wanting to go home, well actually, she thinks all of the 20 girls wanted to go home.
''More than roped, pulled with chains and whipped... not the most friendly wake up I've had, and I actually had such a sweet dream for once..'' She actually felt bitter at that part, Risaka wanted to go back to the sweet peace driven dream, even if it was just a dream she could at least move! Imaginitive of course, she didn't sleep walk, ever. But Risaka somewhat felt gratefull for seeing a face she that is not a complete stranger. Kanna had a charming side with her honesty, and she clearly was a bit more blunt when not infused by the Devil's Lettuce.
''Any idea how long he'll be gone? I am soon walking away at this rate...'' She stared to the other side, some of the girls also began to do some chit chat, but that was quickly stopped once they heard those heavy footsteps, but for Risaka she gave a heavy eyeroll while thinking to herself.''Gosh finally, slowpoke...''
It was the man that commanded them to be in a fine line without moving, he was tall, mighty tall, like one of those classic american veterans. He wore a black beret and had a clear scar across of his face, talk about being over the top brute looking. He inhaled and yelled out with his lunge bursting heavy air from his mouth. ''Listen here you bunch of sissies! You all are here for one good reason! A good ol' beating!'' She widened her eyes a bit, he was ferocious, brutal with his attitude and always had his hands clenched unless wanting to point at something. Risaka quickly would dismiss anything Kanna would try to say to her as the Colonel spoke. ''As your commander for the three days I will show you all just how cruel life is! And to never take it for granted! My name is Tanaka Greyson! But you all WILL refer ME as COLONEL, understood?!'' Risaka did another eyeroll while lazily speaking out an 'ye', although most of the girls were frightened and yelped in agreement with the Colonel's words of raw force.
Risaka on the other hand raised her hand up to rub at her earhole after that loudmouth going berserk with a mere introduction, Risaka absolutely despised loudmouths and would rather knock herself out with a baseball bat than listening to someone like him. But that Colonel had a sharp eye, he noticed Risaka's lack of attention or rather respect. ''You there! That girl who stands out so awkwardly!'' Risaka quickly pulled her hand down and flinched from the sudden attention from him, he even pointed out her quirk's awkward appearance. ''Ugh... yeah?'' ''NOT 'yeahauh'! It's sire yes sir!'' ''uh, sir yes sir?'' He gritted his teeth and pulled out alot more force into his words. ''IT'S! SIR! YES! SIR!'' Risaka felt somehwta frightened and straightened her back and tried to respond back with the desired tone he wanted. ''Sir yes sir!....'' He nodded and crossed his arms. ''Better! And remember that girls, you are not her for some petty tea party nor playing with dolls! Pay attention!''

Charmed by the ideal excuse to skip classes, in retrospective Kanna should have thought twice about what these three days actually meant. She exercised often enough to stay fit, and valued a measure of strength as one of the many foundations for the independence she valued so much. But did she really need sweaty military guys shouting at her until she wanted nothing more than to start punching people in the nose? She doubted they'd leave her with any energy to do so... Not many things actually frightened her, but hearing Risaka's vivid description actually made her gulp... Roped, pulled and whipped... Yeah that sounded just about right. But backing out now while all the other girls still stood strong. Kanna never followed a crowd and yet, she knew backing out now would mean admitting her defeat... And she really hated losing: "Ugh, don't get me started on that...", groaned the hacker, rolling her eyes she too having a fair bit of frustration she needed letting out, "I can't believe some idiots go through this all their lives."
Do they get paid handsomely...? No, they probably don't. Then why...? Are they just trying to prove their toughness...? Now that she'd gotten here, Kanna might actually believe that last option, with a fair bit of idiocy mixed in. At least she and the other girls only had to prove themselves for three days, after which they were free to flip everyone off. In any other situation, even discussing Risaka's dreams woulda felt more interesting that simply rolling around here waiting for the quartermaster to come whip them around like dogs: "No clue...", she shrugged, shaking her head, adjusting her cap to better look at into the girl's eyes, "...But I ain't gonna stick around for this no show either, not much longer than this." Kanna hated something else almost, if not as much as losing: Waiting. She could be patient if she felt a need for it, and right now she really didn't... For better or worse, the guy appeared before them eventually, promptly silencing everyone, Kanna included. She really didn't want that stereotypical drill instructor screaming in her ears, effectively rubbing that loathing for the military in her face. As the worst case scenario unravelled before her eyes, the annoyed, disappointed Kanna merely sighed, with a lazy, deadpan: "Yeah, sure..." She all but cringed when the guy immediately went for the obvious target, the grey girl who stood out far too much for her own good. Kanna probably did too, with a tattooed thigh and hand - as well a piercing on her nostril - but ultimately Risaka drew the short straw, getting shouted at and pretty much spat on by the ever furious Colonel. She almost felt sorry for the girl, fully understanding it could have been here putting up with that infuriating shit.
Right... This was a mental exercise. To survive three days without killing anyone. Could she actually do it? Seemed like a tall order, when her brow already twitched as her annoyance peered through. Keeping that in mind, the blonde took a long, deep breath that seemingly went on forever, cheeks puffing as she exhaled, and finally answered: "Sir, yes, sir...!", she'd finally mumble just loud enough to be passable, clenching her fists so hard she may as well draw blood. Sufficiently satisfied by what he heard, the drill Sargeant Colonel kept on pacing before the high school girls, roughly explaining their objective for the first day. They'd have to march their way through multiple checkpoints with army backpacks strapped to their backpacks. Along some of those checkpoints, they'd have different kinds of physical exercises awaiting them: "...By the end of today, you'll all be either whipped into shape or dead along the way. NOW GET TO IT!!" In a flash, all the girls walked over to the backpacks to pick one up. Some tried picking the lighter ones, but gave up quickly enough. Kanna displayed a different approach altogether. Curious, she opened one and instead of the rations and first aid kits she expected to find, she instead saw only random junk: "Yo, why the fuck do soldiers need all this shit...?!", she interjected, her frustration snapping through a she once more shot the nearby Risa a casual glance, "...Joke's on me for expecting to find something useful huh..."

Now that was harsh, she felt like shit from being told down and treated practically like a dog. Risaka gritted her teeth and clenched her fists in raw frustration, Once the vile military man finally got off Risaka's feet he'd go on to inform all the girls about their task ahead. A mere marching through various checkpoints? She felt like this kind of march would be more, a bad feeling was gutting inside of her stomach. When shouted at to get to it Risaka paid no more time on standing, she felt relieved when she could use her feet finally. Her backpack was soon to be grayscaled as she was opening it and touching it's content, which she huffed from, hopefully the brute of a man did not see her uncontrolable Quirk in action. She found what kind of her backpack, mostly heavy stuff, of course, it was their intention to make the backpacks as heavy as possible but also filled with the necessary tools. But the worst part was that after a good amount of time she'd start to fall extremely sleepy without the necessary caffeine. There was no coffee in this backpack nor anything that could give her a kick. Half closing her eyes she felt that these three days would turn into a real shitter.
When Kanna was conveniently next to her again she most willingly accepted the small talk, the brute of a man wasn't nearby, instead he was bickering another girl on the other side. ''Alot of this stuff is actually useful despite it's looks, like this one, it's a gas can but it can be used for quick fires and not waste gas. And this blue pea bag is actually a cold absorbant cushion that are used to lay against wounds.'' Risaka haven't told this to anyone, but she was actually into survival documentaries, at first she just watched them for the action, but slowly it got to the point where she found interest in how people survive with minimal resources. Maybe Kanna could catch a glimpse of how Risaka was into checking out the backpack.
''Uh yeah, that's about it, I doubt we'll get to use any of these, unless a crisis appears.'' The small chit chat between them two cut short once the brute man got in the middle of all the girls to gain their attention, he once more inhaled with his chest pushing out. ''LISTEN UP SISSIES! It's time to move and get one with nature! You all think you're safe with your fairy dust powers, but let me tell you something, out here no one gives a damn of what you can do, they will only care of what you are willing to do, and so you do it without a question! So get to it! Up up up! We have a long way to go!'' He clapped his large hands to wake anyone who was half asleep, Risaka included as her eyes looked a bit more drowsy than usual. It didn't take long before all the girls got their backpacks ready on their backs, they all showed an expression of pain due to the incredible weight of what they carried. The Colonel at the front leading them away from the campsite Headquarters and into the wilderness. Risaka near the end of the line with Kanna probably right behind her. ''Ugh... it's so damn heavy, I hate it...'' She looked more around the thick forest, everything was so gloomy, similar to her, and to make matters even less appealing is the fact there was nothing of bright colours for Risaka to take use of if she needed that speed. For now it was walking to it didn't bother her too much, a good amount of time went by and the sky was getting slightly more dark, it looked like it could rain any moment, and boy would that be something Risaka hate with a passion.

Yes, she very much sympathized with the palpable signs of fury on Risaka's face, and even lauded her composure. Kanna for one didn't know if she'd be able to avoid punching the guy's teeth out, and probably getting savagely beaten as a result. Punching him meant failing the exercise though... So there she stood as calm as she could, letting this fact sink in as they hurried over to the backpacks. The girl made a fair point, but at the same time, the blonde merely looked at her with a brow raised, pulling out what initially seemed like a crumpled piece of newspaper: "Yeah, that's really nifty and all, but then you also have these...", added Kanna, raising an eyebrow as she hefted the wrapped up rocks, there for no reason other than to add extra weight. She'd put them back in though, not really one to cheat, let alone start doing it before she even tried beating the 'game' on the normal difficulty. Yes, she very much found this whole thing easier to deal with when she thought of it as a game. She shrugged, seizing the straps of the backpack, "...Guess they couldn't be bothered giving us actual supplies. I can imagine why people would use them up for no reason other than to lighten the load." And now, for the hard part... Grunting and gritting her teeth, the blonde hoisted the unnecessarily heavy backpack off the ground, huffing as she eased it onto her shoulders. Ugh, so fucking heavy...! Yet she couldn't bring herself to wince or express it, merely looking foward defiantly and pressing forth like her life depended on it. Unlike what the Colonel said, she doubted something like this could be enough to kill her, but her pride was most defenitely on the line, and that alone brought forth a powerful enough motivation for her to take the first step... And the then the second. Come sun or come rain, she'd clear this exercise with flying colors. Keeping this thought firmly in her mind made it almost possible to ignore the raving maniac screaming his fucking lungs out for every little thing. Well, Kanna was most certainly not asleep but she was defenitely gonna end up half deaf after these three days. Often she'd squint as the guy came too close for comfort, eventually picking up a steady pace. With Risaka close by, she could hear the girl's comparatively low voice, founding it almost calming next to the Colonel's frenzied roars: "Tell me about it... But pulling out now would make you look weak.", replied the blonde, narrowing her eyes as she puffed through the strain and marched forth. She had all her physical conditioning as a martial artist behind her allowed her to catch up to Risaka with relative ease, letting her proceed beside the only other student she actually knew, "Still... My ears hurt way more than my back right now."
Once he finally stopped screaming - even if just for a little while - Kanna took a moment to examine the woodlands around her, the terrain they'd have to conquer before they made it to the first checkpoint. With so many girls ahead of them, the already beaten path got somewhat easier to pass through. Every so often though, their backpacks would get struck in branches and shrubbery, making the whole journey a hell of a lot harder. Soon enough, Kanna would have worked up a healthy sweat, with visible patches forming on her back and armpits. A glance skywards revealed the dark and gloomy clouds getting thicker as the wind blew threw, and indeed they could very easily expect rain at any point: "I'll count myself lucky if it doesn't rain...", groaned Kanna, glancing at Risa to see how well she'd been faring thus far.

One two, one two, one two... Her footsteps felt heavier each long step she did, it slowly got to the point where the backpack itself weren't making it hevay, but the motivation to bother with this kind of crap. What a wish Risaka had to just stop, flop down at the muddy ground and take one or two days off, one could only dream. Although it wouldn't be a smart idea considering the cold temperature outside, but oddly tempting, but brushing that idea to the side she mostly focused forward, luckily the Colonel weren't a total nazi at the further back, Risaka took advantage of this and only followed the entire group, but his loud yelling still got to her despite the distance, what kind of mad voicelungs does he have? Was he a Quirk user by any chance? He didn't seem to delicate with Quirk users so she doubted that. It got her wonder if he was a Quirk-Hater, those kind of people that doesn't know what's right and blame those who has quirks despite them being completely unable to not get it, or maybe he felt insecure for not having one himself? Speculations ontop of speculations.
It seems like Kanna reacted to Risaka's loud thoughts, but Risaka once more did not mind the company Kanna offered, at very least she could look at something that wasn't boring. She found Kanna special, also kind of surprising due to the fact she hasn't shrugged Risaka off yet, most people that has gotten to this point of interactions with her usually went on their own way, wether to avoid her or simply shift of prioritizing. But then again not a whole lot to prioritize in a boring yet tiresome march through the woods. ''Who cares about looking weak when you don't have legs anymore, this damn sudden program..'' She honestly only could complain and not see anything positive coming out from this, maybe bragging rights? Risaka is not the kind to brag, it made her feel extremely naive. She did agree on the ear part, like damn it hurt sometimes, maybe she should worry more about her ears before her legs, it's not like she's gonna literally lose the ability to walk, but the ability to hear is very much fragile. ''I don't know about you, but my ears are close to being gone in the next couple of hours, and imagine the girls at the front, glad I am all the way back here.''
She looked up to the sky to only notice the clouds getting a decent amount of dark gray spots. It might rain any moment and when it does the trip could only get twice as hard, but then again she did feel thirsty, so the rain could potentially cool her body. Similar to Kanna, Risaka, also had a great layer of healthy sweat dripping from her forehead. She greatly disliked sweat though, it makes her clothes clingy and uncomfortable whenever she moved. One could believe the cold temperature would help, but with the backpack stuck to their bodies it was hard to appreciate the cold. It was getting to her and she began to pant from slight exhaustion, worst part is that a great deal of that exhaustion was being sleepy. ''Rain huh? It would suck yeah, but at least it was something to drink... why didn't the backpacks include water anyway? They sure love ripping off any potential happiness from us...''
Risaka and the rest of the group wa snow looking to be extremely worn out, a couple of the girls once in a while resulted a trip whcih then lead to the Colonel yelling out the usual comments. Risaka had even begun to memorize what he mostly used. Get uppity up, no slacking, pathetic rythm, and so on. But then a very small miracle was heard, and despite the loud words it truly gave her motivation. ''Okay sissies! We are close to the first checkpoint! It's a small campsite where you all will do a task every human being should be able to do!'' Finally a place where marching was not the focus? Risaka almost praised the thought but she felt too tired to even do so, but she looked over to the side where kanna was holding up, checking how she was. ''Sounds like a good time relax, about time, I am starting to feel my muscles getting numb...''

They marched forth, uphill on that beaten terrain, past trampled grass and trees that would prove little shelter from an eventual downpower. If she didn't know better, she'd have sword their little drill instructor would have picked this day precisely for that reason... But that would be silly right? No way you can predict the weather, even the meteorologists fail so often. Yet even without rain, Kanna soon felt sufficiently wet with her own sweat, even a calm and paced control of her breath did little to soothe what ailed her. Spending more time exhaling than inhaling, she strove to get rid of all the carbon dioxide, keep her muscles light and flowing for just a bit longer. "I agree... What others think of you don't count for shit...", Kanna acknowledged, huffing and puffing inbetween words, actually appreciating the distracting conversation, helping her keep her limbs on the move, "What you think of yourself does matter though... Look at it.", she nodded forwards, eyes narrowing as she saw all those girls before them, as far as the eye could see. A sight that immediately gave her a second wind as she gritted her teeth, and picked up the pace ever so slightly, "...None of those chicks bailed out yet. And that's the thing. If they left, we'd have seen 'em."
Like a good gamer, Kanna was a sore loser... To give up first would mean utter humiliation. She was half deaf from all the screaming, her muscles already felt pretty numb, and they haven't even made it to the first checkpoint. By the time they'd reach noon, she felt certain she'd already be running on pure willpower. After all, she never had a training session for more than five hours, which was only her highest record, not even a regular habit.
"We were both idiots to come here, thinking three days with no classes would be sweet. But now... I can't wait to show that smug sonovabitch I can take everything he throws at us without breaking.", that vivid, vibrant look in her green eyes, filled with defiance for any forms of authority. Once she saw it as a challenge between her will and the military's authority, one side of Kanna demanded she stay and endure, no matter how much the rest of her hated it. Literally, come sun... Or come rain, "It will also make us heavy as fuck, so yeah, not looking forward to that...", a look of unease peered through that resolute look in her eyes, though Risaka's next words made her scoff, "And yeah, surely real soldiers won't get any water with them in the field or anything... Fucking morons." Logically speaking, she'd assume Soldiers must be trained in conditions resembling what they'd find in the field. Starting an expedition with no water was about as stupid as she could imagine. The idea of not having water made her shake her head, not too vehemently lest she end up wasting precious energy. The ground felt progressively unsteady as the climb uphill turned stiffer... Fucking finally... But where they expected to find rest they instead had... More work! Kanna's head rolled alongside her eyes this time as an exhasperated groan left her mouth: "...Now take those axes and get chopping!! If I see anybody not putting their backs to it, they'll be on the ground doing fifty faster than you can say 'fairy dust'...", her ears actually survived this outburst, that was, until some idiot decided to try and take the weight off her back, "...AND DONT TAKE OFF THE GODDAMN BACKPACK!!!" Idiot... Kanna cringed and barely covered the ear closest to her, and immediately hurried over to grab the nearest axe: "You were saying something about relaxing...?", retorted Kanna, with a sardonic tone that did little to ease the tension, "Ugh, lets just get this shit over with so we can have some water."

The truth spoke harder than it should've, this was borderline torture to these girls, but seeing Kanna as someone this competitive gave Risaka a slight chuckle, but just a slight one, a very silent one. It was amusing to think of this three day session as a game, Risaka couldn't care less if she was placed last, she just don't want people go at her for not giving her best. For Risaka this three day session was merely something they -had- to go through, but she wouldn't mind showing that brute of a man who's the strongest, he got an attitude worth breaking with a sledgehammer, metaphorically and literally. She looked back at Kanna for her respond regarding them being morons. Never has Risaka agreed this much with another individual, she gave a firm nod and glared back up to the Colonel that was leading the group. ''You bet they are morons... not thinking what is important, bet they all got an ego worth of skyscrapers...''
It was amazing how far they have walked by now, and she was more amazed that she was even able to do without just straight up stopping, but then again she would not wanna be left alone in the middle of the wilderness. The campsite looked decent enough, it had space, and was seemingly a good spot to rest for now, but of course, rest was just as real as unicorns to Mr. Meatface. She gave out a tired and a lazy toned sigh when getting to treestump. An axe was located on it, she picked it up and felt it's shape and weight. It was well used, but clearly sharp as ever, or perhaps someone had sharpened them beforehand. She shrugged and looked to the side towards the log pile, her face turning fully pale and despaired when seeing the large pile. Every girl got such a pile?! The man must be crazy!
''C'mon now girls! You have spent your legs all day, now it's time to wear those arms of yours! Get to it!'' Risaka was simply too caught off guard to start chopping, but she shuck her head and leaned over to the pile to grab a large log, it was heavy, but she managed to put it neatly on the middle of the treestump. ''Alright, it can't be this bad... does he really expect us to do all of them?'' She was speaking to herself, but loud enough for those around her, if Kanna was near her once again that is. Risaka swung her axe up and slammed it right down at the log. She managed to do it in a clean sweep, which honestly she found a bit unreal due to the fact she has never swung an axe, perhaps the training from Yuuei really did give her muscles some proper form. The Colonel watched Risaka do the chop and cross his arms, grinning with a clear intention to not let her enjoy the moment. ''Ooh? You think a single log is enough to beam over? Pathetic, I expect you to do the entire pile, and if you don't I'll make you do the ALL the leftovers from others! Understood?!'' She gritted her teeth when swinging down once more to chop another log. She truly hated him now, glaring at him when doing the third swing, after that he nodded with a strict stare before continueing to the rest. Risaka felt alot more frustrated than from the marching, swing after swing she just hated this feeling. ''I bet I would never get this kind of special treatment if it weren't for this damn quirk of mine...'' It truly blew a hole at her confidence, but she kept going, holding in those feelings of hers just to get the stuff done, not like she wanted to get into an even worse situation. After a good amount of logs chopped she took a moment to scan around, her face was way more dripping of sweat than the march, plus with the backpack she felt like her back was snapping in any moment. ''S-so much left...''

Kanna's gaze followed Risaka's, not that she didn't alreayd know where the girl was glaring. She too did the same in fact; as her energy steadily ran dry, the girl could only push forth fueled by pride and frustration: "The more medals on their jacket, the bigger the ego... And you thought teenage boys were bad.", panted the frustrated teen, brushing the sweat slicked hair away from her face as her very uniform started feeling heavier with how much she'd already sweat into it. As they finally reached the end of the uphill slope and had their hopes of rest completely and brutally shattered. No point crying about it now though. Kanna should have known better when she chose a three day military drill to avoid classes, fully knowing she wouldn't be able to back down once she smelled a challenge like this. Even if she hated every minute of it, she wanted to prove her strength to herself, and most of all wanted to stick it to the man barking around like a rabid dog. Gritting her teeth, she crouched down and hoisted the axe in her hands... As she held a potential weapon as such, her infuriated thoughts quickly wandered to the day when she held a golf club in much the same way, and bashed her father's head in with much the same rage as she had in her now. Eyeing the log and narrowing her eyes, Kanna lifted the axe and brought it down: "All of that and more... I guess...", she huffed in reply, cutting through the first log. She had calloused knuckles for training in martial arts, yet that did nothing to her palms. Her hands hurt right after the first one, and Kanna grit her teeth ashe picked up the next log, "He'd have us cut the entire forest if envoiromental agencies wouldn't fuck him over for it..." Two... Second time he shits on the gray girl for no real reason, and Kanna justified this with no reason other than her highly visible ability. Yes, she stood out well enough to be targeted first, the blonde could even understand that much. The more times it happened though, the less it felt like simple psychology and more like outright abuse, a reflection of his hatred for quirk users. "Smug... prick...", grunted the blonde every time she brought her axe down, fully aware that she couldn't really hold back for so long. Military training was one thing... She could probably endure it with great effort should she put her mind to it. Bullying was a different story altogether. Chop... Chop again... And chop some more... The process repeated ad infinitum until the blonde's sweat no longer merely dripped down, but flowed in steady trickles. And she wasn't the only one, most other girls' could scarcely move after losing this much water without any way of replenishing it. Even on this warm Summer morning, Kanna had never felt more grateful for the dark, grey clouds blocking out the sun, for the chilly breeze keeping her body temperature down. "Don't look at what's left...", urged Kanna, scarcely mustering the energy to look at the gray girl beside her. With choopped wood on one side and logs on the other, she simply picked one up, tossed away the lumber, and grabbed the next log. A mere pause for breath was all she allowed herself, occasionally brushing her hair away. She swung the axe until she started seeing blood on the axe handle, courtesy of doing all this with dainty hands and no form of protection, "Just... Keep... Chopping..." She no longer had the energy to move, and if she actually looked at how much she had left, her mental energy would inevitably wane. Hopefully Risaka could realize this too, and a matter of hours, they'd finally be done with all of this wood!

One and a two and a three, Risaka had gotten herself into a smooth mental rythm, if she kept he pace up she could do it in a decent amount of time. The pile of chopped logs soon got so much that she had to pushed them away from the treestump. Her hands, so tired and rugged, it was really taking it's toll at her. Truly god bless for the weather despie it's gloomy look, although a bit of rain would most certainly help the gray girl. Her lips was so dry, she felt the rough edges of the dried skin, it greatly took her out of focus, which lead her swing to completely miss the log place on the stump. Her eyes widened in shock, but also a bit in fear of the Colonel noticing her failed swing. She scanned for where he was, luckily he was far away and did not witness her mistake. ''Ugh... can't believe I am getting this wary...'' She heard Kanna words and eyed at her from the corner of her eye. Watching the blonde gal struggle with the task gave Risaka a somewhat angered feeling. There was clear differences between the girls, some even dropping their axes to tend to their hands, but they were left untouched by the Colonel since he was probably expecting most to fail, and the more who failed to do their portion the worse it got for Risaka.
''Entire forest huh? More like the damn country, this feels like slavery if anything...'' Growing quite mad at the situation she swung her axe up and gave twice as hard thrust downwards, A bit of an overkill to the log that shot to the sides. ''If only he wasn't such a stuck up asshole then maybe this was tolerable to some extent...'' Risaka fully looking back at Kanna with a sympthatic faint smile. ''Can't wait until I can just run away... not just from this place, but from all the shitty people around me, I am sure you feel the same.'' She looked back forward incase the Colonel was nearby, she didn't wanna get called out for chit chatting with others, but she thought to herself if this could even get any more worse.
Risaka looked at her pile, and amazingly she was have cleared around 5/6 of the enterity, it made her somewhat relieved and happy, but then she reminds herself that some girls didn't even do their halves. She then coughed, a painful one, the dry state she was in gave her lungs a bad time and hard to breath even. ''Unnngh guh... even breathing becomes a problem, great... as if the world only wants misfortune.'' She stood for a moment and sighed out to catch her breath and simply let her muscles rest. But the moment she tried to continue her work the loud ugly mouthed man had yet another word of speech for the girls.
''Okay girlies! That's great and all, but those who are simply just to weak to even do the simpliest labour will follow me and load all the chopped logs into the platform over there! And by weak ones I mean ALL of you! None of you have even finished your damn pile! Pathetic! But a promise is a promise, you all do the loading while the petty gray lady over there finish the leftovers!''
She shuck her head in large disapprovement, knowing that this kind of stuff could easily take rest of the day. She coughed once more and felt extremely sleepy at that point, what even made her stay up was either pure willpower or fear of more punishments. It was at that moment she simply just wanted to scream, but the pain from her lungs and overall lack of energy simply denied her wish. ''D-...d-dammit...'' And here Risaka thought the others would do plentifull, she bet even some of them slacked so that she got more work stacked ontop of her, hopefully Kanna wasn't one of them, because as of right now she was the only one Risaka would ever put any form of trust on.

Yes, she was slowly growing more at ease with Risaka... She didn't speak much, meaning Kanna struggled to find her annoy like she did so many others. They shared a fair enough number of views while still disagreeing enough to keep conversations interesting. Perhaps for this reason, she noticed the girl's wariness on the rare moment she turned her head that way. And why wouldn't she...? Really seemed like that damned Colonel had it out for her for something that may as well be personal: "Tch...", clicking her tongue as she swung down on another piece of wood, she too noticing how many other girls started backing out. And not a single word to them huh...? If the whole army's this impartial, Kanna defenitely had every reason to loathe it. She detested authority in any shape or form, and their hierarchy existed for no reason other than to enforce blind obedience...
Even when when those issuing orders were incompetent douchebags. If anything, the blonde did what she could to draw strength from her seething rage, a thought that inevitably made he mind wander back to her piece of shit old man. As much as she hated his guts, her nasty temper came from none other than him, and that way provided her with the minimum desire to control it, seek training in martial arts to vent the anger that could otherwise explode uncontrollably. Question was, how long could she rein it in under this much pressure? She knew not if she could, but at this rate she'd end up saying something she shouldn't. And probably not regret it either: "Pretty much... He's turning this into a three day crash course on 'Why joining the army is a bad idea'... I didn't to expect to have fun, but this...", replied the blonde, clenching her fists hard around the axe and swinging it down, visibly echoing the gray girl's wrath. Even as the conversation took a deeper turn, Kanna couldn't really blame her for it. She'd spent too much of her life hiding and running away... Yet times like these made her feel a whole other sort of emotion altogether, "You know... I'm really done... Running away...!" She still had quite a few logs to go and barely had the strength to keep talking. But she kept chopping them, just in case that prick would get any ideas of keeping his word on making Risaka chop everything. Surely he wouldn't, right? Wrong. Kanna lowered the axe for a moment as he began talking, but when those words reached her ears, g her brow twitched, her teeth gritting as she felt that rage growing between them. Three... Third time he's shat on one chick who didn't do better or worse than anybody else, and the words 'gray girl' fully explained why: "Petty huh... Like you're one to talk.", quipped Kanna in her normal tone, not really loud enough, taking a deep breath and controlling the worst of her temper. Yet her actions gave a different message altogether. Instead of turning away and fetching her cup up lumber, she picked up another log, brough her axe up, and smashed it down with a vengeance, an exhausted, but infuriated look on her face. It actually took the Colonel a few moments to realize one of the girls was still going at it, completely ignoring his orders. And that look on his face... The look of one who knew he'd broken more rebels like her that he could count. Unfortunately for him, Kanna was only here for three days, with no intention of joining the army. That wouldn't stop him from trying though: "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING!! I SAID STOP CHOPPING, AND THAT'S AN ORDER!!", still nothing. Kanna didn't even click her tongue or betray any further sign of anger, she merely brought the axe up, then down again, until the man outright interfered, wrenching the axe from her hands and making her turn to him, "You may think you're helping your little friend... BUT TWO SISSIES LIKE YOU CAN'T DO ONE DAMN THING!!" Kanna turned her head away, avoiding the endless shower of spittle, only to turn back to him, meeting his gaze without flinching, a look that said, 'Are you done...?' while her mouth said a good bit more than that: "Right, and bullying a single student is so fucking manly I could swoon.", retorted the blonde If this is your idea of toughness, I'll take being a sissy any day of the week. She could almost see the vein bursting in his forehead, and it felt more satisfying than she'd admit. She'd pay for her soon enough, and she knew that from the start. But even knowing she'd face the consequences, Kanna couldn't simply stand by and watch one person getting shat on to breaking point over one man's prejudice: "Is that so you little brat.... YOU ASKED FOR IT, GIVE ME 100! ON THE GROUND NOW!!", he roared, all but bursting her eardrum "Sure sir, yes sir, thank you sir...", snarky and defiant as ever, Kanna complied with a tone of sarcasm, rubbing her ear before she dropped down in a plank and began pushing. This guy... Is the worst...!

Risaka watched the girls picking up their logs and piling over to the platform, her eyes was filled with alot of distrust and disgust towards them and the Colonel, but could she really blame the girls? It just so happened that Risaka took the blow the most out of all. She didn't have the physical strenght anymore, but just she was about to attempt another swing she heard a chop behind her. She blinked and turned her sight towards Kanna who stood her ground, her pose, expression and stare at the Colonel was a clear sign of rebellion. Risaka didn't know how to respond, or that she weren't able to, but she knew deep within that Kanna was not like the rest, was this her attempt to show the Colonel? Or was it for Risaka herself? She wasn't sure, but it didn't matter at that point, she already knew by a mile that the Colonel will lash out at Kanna, which turned Risaka to shake her head to Kanna. ''What are you doing... it's not worth it..!'' She wished she could speak her thoughts out, an utterly feeling of hopelesness drew down inside of Risaka, why did someone like Kanna take a heavy blow was the only question that would keep being stuck inside her head for a good amount of time, burned into her thoughts.
When the Colonel lashed out at Kanna it was already soemthing she was used to, Risaka did not flinch from the loud yell and just stood there silently while watching Kanna getting the expected yet devilish punishment. One hundred push ups on the spot? Sounds like a nightmare when this far into wood chopping, she bet Kanna's arms would feel like spaghetti after a dozen. Risaka wanted to ask Kanna why she stood her ground, but seeing as the Colonel was finished with her the gray girl turned quickly back to the chopping. But from Kanna's courage gave Risaka some strenght, she hated that the one she thought who was weaker stood their ground and gave more than she did. Gritting her teeth she swung her axe down with precision on point. She did so before the Colonel had a chance to give Risaka another shitty moment. ''Hmph, guess you didn't slack off, I am still expecting you to do the rest!'' He walked off to watch over the other girls doing the carry labour, which gave Risaka some room to breathe and give Kanna a signal or some sort. She looked at her and nodded with a determined expression, if Kanna was good at reading people she could understand Risaka's message 'Let's finish this'.
An hour passes by, and Risaka, amazingly, kept her pace up through the entire session, and the moment she dropped her axe after chopping the very last log she felt an intense spark of pain attack all over her arms and back. It made her grunt out and almost fall to her knees. ''S-shit... I guess pain can't always be ignored...'' But she knew the Colonel was watching in the distance, so she couldn't take a moment to sit down to ease her muscles, but more importantly, how did Kanna do? Risaka wanted to turn around and get an update to her punishment, but her senses were fuzzy and thus made it hard for her to listen the surroundings. ''I wonder... if she's still kicking...'' She paused a moment and breathed in deeply and exhaled out slowly, letting the air ease the stinging pain to her muscles, but it could only help so much. However, the Colonel noticed Risaka was finished and stepped towards her where she was standing, crippling stance. ''Uhuh, you chopped it all, you're off the hook for now, now get to it!'' She had clear embers in her eyes to show her large hatred to this man, but she didn't have any form of strenght left and simply did a nod and gasped out those three words to avoid another beating. ''Nnngh.. sir yes sir...'' Her voice was raspy and dry, water would certainly help her situation.

Of course, the other girls minded their own business as much as possible. Kanna didn't expect anybody to agree with her with their own necks on the line, so beyond those few gasps, bewildered stares and parted lips, she stood alone. And that's fine. She'd long convinced herself she was better off alone, she worked better that way. At the end of the day you're the only one who can follow your own path, who can hold your own principles. With her eyes firmly on the Colonel, she hardly had even the slighest chance to even look at Risaka, to see the equally stunned, but mostly confused look on her face. When their eyes met, she'd see the same casual, aloof nonchalance she'd always given her, yet filled with a brighter resolve she'd ever shown... Like this was simply normal to her, not done out of pity or even concern for the gray girl. To her, that fire in Risaka's eyes said it all, and the blonde returned the look in earnest, nodding before dropping into the first pushup. They were on the same page: No way they'd bow down to that lunatic, admit they couldn't handle the worst he could throw at them.
It really wasn't a matter of protecting her, in the name of a friendship that didn't exist... Kanna's apparent selflessness drew from selfishness first and foremost, her loathing of authority and abuse, especially when the two rolled into one. She herself held this notion to heart, unable to believe in any form of genuine selflessness. All those who help others do so hoping to get some manner of benefit to themselves. At the same time, she struggled with acknowledging her own sympathy for those abused, or at least the efforts she'd take to allay their pain. Up... Down... Up... And down again. The blonde could hardly feel her arms anymore, joints crackling, teeth gritting with every push upwards,"Ten... Eleven...", Each dozen came slower than the last, her form more crooked and spaced out as she no longer had the energy for perfect push ups, "Twenty two... Twenty three..."
This washed in her own sweat, she actually took a good few moments to notice the droplets falling from the sky, heralding a deluge soon to come. And once it did, it came hard. As those trickles became once dreaded downpour, the showering waters providing a background noise to the incessant tempo of chopping from Risaka's spot, to the her own overworked joints crackling under her own weight:
"Thirty four... Thirty five...", Kanna no longer spoke or even uttered, but huffed and grunted each number, as a single thought bounced around her head. Blessed rain... Like most people, Kanna disliked getting caught out in a rainstorm, but now... This time she appreciated it like never before: It's not like her uniform could get any wetter, and at this point she appreciated the chance to hydrate, to cool her body down. Fourties, Fifties, Sixties... She'd stopped being able to feel her arms long ago, but at this point everything just fucking hurt, at the slighest effort to move her muscles. Ugh, she was gonna be so sore tomorrow... Seventies, Eighties, Nineties... And finally: "Hundred...!", she panted, her arms immediately giving way once she reached those two zeroes, falling face first onto the muddy grass. She stood like that for the better part of a minute, breath ragged and heart threatening to pump out of her chest as she drank what trickles of water fell into her mouth. Risaka would have finished her training from hell around the roughly the same time, and proabably would have caught the blonde seemingly knocked out under the rain, yet her eyes still very much open and lively. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. "...And you!! Talk back to me again and I'll have you doing 200. Now get up and get going!", Kanna didn't know whether the Colonel had actually been counting, she assumed so as she herself made no mention to cheat her way past this. She wouldn't even if she could get away with it. The guy may be a complete douchebag, but he hadn't cheated by adding an extra set halfway through. And the blonde wouldn't cheat against an opponent who didn't do the same. Which didn't prevent her from glaring as she stood back up and replied: "Sir yes sir, fuck you sir...", she replied, only adding that last bit once their tormentor was out of earshot. She turned over to Risaka, assessing the girl's condition before adjusting the straps on her backpack, and getting off a sardonic quip, "Look at that... We're still alive... Joke's on him."

Was it a divine blessing? The rain, perfectly coming to when they needed the most, it was an endless dream the moment a single drop fell against Risaka's pale face. It was cold, but yet filled with so much life, the kind of life that had been drained out of her body ever since the start of this dreaded day. She weren't able to move on the spot, she felt like a statue, standing there despite to let more droplets hit her face, soon the dark sky was the most beautiful thing she's seen, and it happened so fast. The sudden burst of rain from the sky easily drenched Risaka's body, not that her sweat haven't already made her completely wet to begin with, but this kind of water is what she needed. Her body was a throbbing machine on overheat, but she could feel how it was slowly calming down, her breath visible in the cold rainy weather, her heartbeat once beating so hard and fast now smoothing out it's pace. She finally got that one fortune for the day, and from the sudden cold kick by the rain made her muscles react and twitch, it got her to finally move.
Taking one step around to face Kanna with a curious pair of gray eyes, looking down at her and her triumph against the Colonel. Risaka, aswell, felt that sweet victory, a not so grandious one, but a victory worth cherishing. Risaka yet wanted to know why the blondie stood her ground, but too mucb trouble asking, and honestly Risaka wouldn't care enough, there are plenty of other times to ask such stuff. Instead, Risaka gently opened her mouth to get the rain fall against her dried mouth, it was soothing, if anything it acted like a healing potion, she felt replinished, mentally that is. She coughed out again, but after that she got to do a deep comfortable inhale before responding back to Kanna's words of truth.
''Uhuh, I bet we showed him, but I doubt he'd take our victory lightly...'' Risaka didn't wanna admit it, but she had a bad feeling regarding that Colonel, he made her feel like it was war, war against someone she couldn't possibly oppose with full might. The feeling of having no hope tore her down every time she thought about it, but instead of grieving for whats next she instead got into eyecontact with Kanna once more when both were strapping their backpacks properly on. ''Kanna...'' Risaka didn't show much emotion to her face other than determination, but it lacked the hostile nature of her. ''Let's survive this, between all the girls in this group you are likely the one wanting to get out off here the most, take my words as gratitude.'' It was hard for Risaka to admit her appreciation, despite not knowing Kanna's intentions, but if she hadn't stepped in Risaka would surely just have fallen broken. Also, she didn't wanna owe Kanna yet another coffee, good brands costs alot these days afterall.
''OI! You two! Get over here already! We're leaving already! The rain will not stop for the next couple of hours!'' God bless those next upcoming hours, Risaka was sure she'd enjoy every second of it, even know she tried to grab soem into her mouth while having the small talk to Kanna. And thus another march was ahead, the march to the second point, and this time around Risaka would absolutely not fall behind, not when someone like Kanna does her best with such courage.
