I Am On The Side of Angels Yet I Hold Sympathy For the Devil "Excellent choice! I'll be back before you can miss me!"
With that said Misuzu turned and went off to the bar again to deliver their orders to the woman behind it. Hachi was still watching the plate of cookies like a moth drawn to flame when Genzu's hand lightly touched her shoulder, causing her to flinch a little before her head swiveled back to meet his gaze. Ah. She'd been staring into space. Well, staring at sweets. Her cheeks heated up, staining her face a deep, warm orange.
"I'm okay! I, uh, th-the chef just brought in fresh...something. And I can smell it from here. Uh. I get very easily distracted by sugary things. It's...it's a bee thing." Her fingers raised to scratch lightly at her chin, her lips pressed together tight. Maybe she should have asked that they go to a restaurant instead. Less sweet smelling goodies for her bug brain to go "ooooh" at. Then again, her body needed the sugar. Dammit.
After a moment of fidgeting awkwardly and hoping her face was cooling down, she tilted her head towards Genzu and brought up what she'd been thinking once more, since he seemed to have been distracted by a pair of pretty smiles before. "Doesn't it look like all of the customers here have Quirks? Obvious ones, too. Like mine. Did you know that this place was a Quirker-heavy spot? I...haven't seen so many in one room outside of the new hero school. It's strange. But nice."
Back at the bar, Misuzu had gotten two bottles and a pair of tall glasses, both filled with ice, but had stopped to chitchat with the chef and barista for a little while. The chef whom, Hachi noticed, had turned a finger into a bottle opener to open the bottles Misuzu had taken.

G didnt know how to feel about Misuzu, everything she did was so damn flirtatious. Even her words were like that. But when she left he finally got his head in the game. And apparently even Yellow had her distractions as well. So when the two finally got their shit together the proper conversation could continue "I dunno. I don't look at other customers, I dont care about them. And well, I didnt think this was a quote unquote 'quirker heavy spot'" he used air quotes on 'quirker heavy spot' and then continued "I heard about this cafe that it exists. Thats all I needed to try it out"
He didnt quite like the word 'quirker', it made him sound different. He was the norm dammit!! The Quirkless needed a name, not him. He's a human not a quirker!
"So.. anything else you wanted to ask? Outside it looked like you were brimming with questions, but you were too sick to talk. So what was it?" he asked since he knew she had questions that she probably needed to 'phrase' right. She asked him why was he a Vigilante. He answered. Was there something more or was he looking deep into it too much??

I Am On The Side of Angels Yet I Hold Sympathy For the Devil Hachi frowned just slightly as her sentiment was brushed aside. He didn't care about the others? It was hard for her to relate to that. As a hero it was her duty to be attentive of other people, especially those who society might turn on at any given moment. Judging a crowd as a crowd instead of as individuals led to mistakes. Led to overlooking details. Led to harm. Even as a vigilante she had been taught to mind that.
But she wasn't here to lecture Genzu. Instead, the conversation returned to what she'd wanted to ask from the beginning. Hachi placed her fingers on the menu, claws tapping against the smooth surface with a series of soft "click-click-clicks". Yes. How to begin, though?
"I do. It's difficult to...word properly. I was a vigilante for a very long time, before I got my licence as a hero. Now that I'm looking at it from the outside, I find myself having many questions. I already asked you why you are fighting crime, and the answer you gave me was...good, I suppose. But I feel like it was...misguided." She drew in a deep breath, collecting more of her thoughts. She wasn't trying to insult Genzu for wanting to be what he was, but it was hard to phrase her words in a gentle way. She wasn't gentle.
I should learn to be softer, especially with the kids...
"From my own experiences," she continued, eyes on her tapping claws rather than looking at Genzu himself, "Vigilantes aren't exactly loved by the people. Sure, before heroes were a real thing, we--they, were the closest thing to one that there was. Fighting crime, keeping people safe, despite what the law told us to do. But for ever person saved who was grateful, there were many more who deemed what we were doing to be part of the problem. After all, we were going around causing as much damage as we fought against. Civilians were put at risk. My own partner...had a Quirk that controlled electricity. More than once she caused massive black-outs when a fight became too dangerous. Even though it was for the safety of others, there was just no way to outweigh the risk and reward."
"Now, though, the title of hero exists. There are limitations set on the use of Quirks meant to lessen the damage done by those trying to do good. Less people will be hurt, hopefully. And the people are recognizing it. It's obviously not perfect. But it makes me wonder...why somebody would choose to be a vigilante, when there are now people out there who will do it...not better, but safer, and with less risk to the people."
"It feels...almost worse, too reckless, to be a vigilante."
She was silent for a moment.
"...please don't be mad at me for what I'm saying. I'm not trying to look down on you. I'm not. I was a vigilante, too. But I want to change the system, not fight against it. And that's what vigilantism is doing."

He listened to what she had to say. But as soon as she said it was hard to word it properly. He knew he was gonna be in for a ride. For example, the first point was that his goal was quote unquote 'misguided'. G felt she missed the point, but only slighty. The goal wasnt misguided, but G and his very being was misguided "You cant be misguided if you had no one to guide you" G would think to himself, as he made that mental retort, not actually saying it to Yellow
He continued to listen to her on how she was a Vigilante and how she had a partner and how they caused damage to their surroundings. Apparently her electric partner would cause black outs. Big deal. And then she tried to bring up to pros of being a Pro. Saying how its more beneficial and limited and bla bla cry me a river. At this point he lost interest listening to her. The problem with being a Pro was that you were the goverments puppet. He was a VILLAIN, he knew Villains dont play ball nicely. He had to do what the pros couldnt do. And that involved breaking laws and anything else that needed to be broken to stop that villain. She said how its quote unquote 'reckless' to be a Vigilante. Which G had a hard time believing since he and Sunhawk saved a Pro Hero who was reckless and became a hostage herself. Vigilantes being reckless was bullshit. The past just had shitty vigilantes then. Maybe Yellows generation of Vigilantes were shit.
While thinking, he noticed that Yellow fell silent for a moment. G decided not to say a word yet, he saw that she had more 'genius' to spill. When she spoke, she asked him to not be angry and tried to convince him that she isnt looking down on him "Then what are you doing? I dont understand" he'd think to himself, but once again not say it As he listened the last part was truly a kicker. She claims that Vigilantism fights the system. G disagrees with that. He believes Vigilantism supplements the system. Who's to say a Pro cant work with a Vigilante? Vigilante can break laws and do whatever to help a Hero, right? Or was that just wishful thinking.
Yellow seemingly stopped speaking, expecting G to probably tell her again. Why is he a Vigilante. Now G had to choose his words carefully. Give her information, but not too much information "Listen, I appreciate that you wanna make me a real Hero. I admit, the thought of me being a Hero is actually pretty touching and nice. But there is no way in hell I will ever be a Hero. Im simply not possible. I'd be arrested on the spot"

I Am On The Side of Angels Yet I Hold Sympathy For the Devil Silence was all Hachi could return for a while longer. He didn't seem mad, but...it was impossible that he wasn't bothered by what she had said. It had been the truth, though. At least from her perspective. When Genzu finally spoke up--he didn't yell at her so, hey, maybe this was off to a better start than she had expected--he admitted that being a hero was appealing to him. However, it was unobtainable. Hachi's eyes met his.
"...because you've killed people?" She said very, very, very quietly, quiet enough that it was nearly lost to the hum of voices in the cafe. But Genzu should have heard it if he were paying attention. "I have, too."
"Hey hey hey! Sorry about the wait!"
Hachi nearly flew backwards in her chair as Misuzu's bubbling voice rammed through the tension like a bull in a china shop. She was still grinning bright as could be as she placed a bottle in front of Hachi and Genzu, along with a tall glass full of ice on Genzu's half of the table. Hachi's bottle looked like it was full of a peach-colored juice, and sticking out of the top was a straw. G's own drink looked like it was your standard cola drink. The label, though, was red with white text that said "HYPEEEEEEEEEER" in English, capitalized.
"Here's your hyper-caffeinated cola, and your juice! Have you decided what you'd like to eat this evening?" Misuzu grinned, looking between her customers expectantly. Hachi finally remembered how to breathe. This girl was going to give her a heart attack. Jesus.
".....I haven't. Um. G-Genzu, uh, you go first."
While I remember how lungs work.

The next thing Yellow said, caught G off guard. She quietly asked if he killed people. And even quieter said that she did it too. G froze for a moment, not knowing what to say. Was she a Villain as well? Did she went from Villain to Vigilante to...Hero? She killed. But even if it was just that. G had an extensive record. Burglary, mugging, vandalism, battery, assault, attempted murder, murder, kidnapping and...that one thing. He was lucky he avoided capture. He was lucky people didnt recognize him. He still wondered how no one recognized him. Sure, he heard people in the last crowd questioning if he was a hero. But no one put together what he was? Even Yellow Jacket had no idea who and what he was. Do Pro Heroes not get a list of wanted villains? Or did the people stop seeing him as a Villain because of his Vigilante rescues. "Am I redeemed?" he quietly mumbled to himself as he thought
And suddenly a wild Misuzu appears!... With everyones orders. Yellow most certainly didnt see her coming. Granted G didnt as well, but he had a calmer reaction. As soon as Misuzu said "Here's your hyper-caffeinated cola" G already took it and started drinking. Yellow was a bit more distracted, Misuzu probably asking if they wanted to eat. As soon as the girls turned to G "Nope! Nothing! I'll just drink!" he said and ignored the girls as he enjoyed his drink

I Am On The Side of Angels Yet I Hold Sympathy For the Devil "You've throw me under the bus, Genzu. I'll remember this." Hachi spoke with as dry a voice as she could muster, which was pretty easy since she didn't have the air in her lungs yet to talk normally. Guh. She was more attentive when she wasn't being so serious. Misuzu let out a giggle and turned to the bee woman expectantly. After scanning over the menu for a little while Hachi looked back at the bar, where the chef had left and the barista was now setting more freshly baked goods in the glass shelves to display. She swallowed. "I can't see what they are from here, but...whatever was just brought out smells delicious. May I have a couple of those, please? If they're, um, available."
Misuzu's eyes sparkled along with her smile. "You don't think we'd put out fresh cookies and not have them for sale, do you? That'd be so mean! Sohma makes the best cookies. I'll go get them for you right away!"
With that, she spun and went right on back to the bar.
Hachi watched her go, exasperated as before. "...you know what, if that hyper caffeine cola or whatever is her favorite, maybe you should drink it in small sips." With another moment to themselves she took the bottle into her claws and caught the straw in her small mouth, drinking up some of the sweet juice inside. The yuzu fruit was very tart, but the honey was very sweet, and it made her buzz happily drinking it. All that sugar was helping her feel less exhausted and more awake. Which given the topic they had been interrupted at...
She released the straw and spoke again, at a normal tone of voice. "I apologize for dropping that bombshell on you at such a bad time. I...didn't notice she was coming back. Um. It was a bad thing to leave off at." Hachi swallowed. At least with some sugar in her system she was thinking a little clearer. Still, it made this conversation no more pleasant. "...I did do...that. Please, though, understand that it wasn't out of pleasure, or cruelty, or anything akin to that. It's only when there were no other options, and the choices were my life or the lives of innocent people...choices were made for the sake of peace and goodness. But. That doesn't mean that what was done was good, or right."
"I made an assumption that you have done that as well. Hurt people, or worse, for peace, or perhaps just for your own sake. It is not the right thing to do. And, yes, I firmly believe that anyone who...kills somebody else should be responsible for it. That's why I am doing what I am." Her voice felt stronger, but stayed at the same level of volume as before. "I became a hero to make up for the things I did as a vigilante, and so that the heroes of tomorrow don't need to make those choices. It doesn't erase the things I did in the past, or return the people who were...lost..." She sighed.
Solenn, would you be proud of me, or angry...?
"But I think it is something of an atonement, nonetheless. And if there is no other option for you to atone, or to...make your child proud of you, then...I suppose there are worse ways you could be going about it than how you are. It would be hypocritical of me to arrest you, and similarly so for me to tell you what you're doing is right. So. I guess that's where I stand."

She just didnt understand. She killed to save. He killed people to maim. Just because it made him feel better. Sure, later when he made the leap from Villainy to Vigilante, he killed to reduce the number of criminals. But now he stopped that was well. G knew he wasnt hero material, he stopped doing anything villanous of the sort, he knew what a true hero had to be like. But, he just wasnt that. He had these dark urges. Urges that keep him awake at night because he can still see himself commiting crime. If G could go from Villain to Vigilante to Hero, he'd gladly take it. But he knows the goverment nor the authorities would allow that to happen. Besides, if he was a Hero, its not like he'd have a costume. His current clothes would suffice. Maybe they'd be cleaner and smell nicer too. But nothing else.
When Yellow told him to take the hypercaffinated drink in smaller sips, he just shrugged as he didnt understand why he should do that. G wasnt the type to obey an order he didnt understand. And he didnt understand what would happen if he takes normal or big sips of the drink.
Later when she finished talking, she made G wonder "You said it would be hypocritical of you to arrest me. Does that mean whatever I tell you.... wont get me arrested. I mean, if you want to hear something. I have to hear you promise that no matter what I say, you wont arrest me"

I Am On The Side of Angels Yet I Hold Sympathy For the Devil Hachi considered Genzu's words very carefully. Was he offering to talk more to her about his choices, about his deeds, if she swore not to arrest him? She had just said she believed that arresting him for being a vigilante would be hypocritical given her past as one, and the misdeeds she had gotten away with. At the same time there was a line she felt would cross from vigilantism to villainy. If he spoke of things that went past that line and led her to see him as dangerous...
...wait, why not just say that aloud.
"As long as you're not going to tell me that you have murdered anyone in cold blood in the last five years," she bluntly stated, head tilting to the side just a little, "Or that you possess an illegal firearm, have robbed any banks or shops, or have performed any other incredibly illegal deed outside of your time as a vigilante...then I promise that I will not bring you into the police. Ever."
Misuzu approached the table yet again, this time with a platter of the cookies Hachi had smelled earlier. Up close the divine scent of sugar and butter and lemon hit her right in the face, and her eyes lit up and her wings began to vibrate with a happy buzzing sound. To her credit Misuzu stifled her giggles with her hand.
"Here you go! One plate of chef Sohma's yummy lemon zest sugar cookies! I know you said you didn't want any, but I still brought a couple extra if you want to try!" Misuzu addressed G with a wink and smile. "I'll be making the rounds, so just call if you need me!"
"Th-thank you," Hachi mumbled between buzzes.
Misuzu giggled again and turned to return to the bar.

G fell silent for a moment 'As long as you're not going to tell me that you have murdered anyone in cold blood in the last five years'. Well... he kinda did. But they were Villains and he started to make the leap from Villain to Vigilante then. Though, those were still murky times. Blurring the lines between the two. And then she spoke something that he could voice his opinions on "I dont do firearms nor have I robbed anything as a Vigilante. Its more about what I did before I became a Vigilante. And I cant tell you that because you still didnt promise me anything. Promise that no matter what I say, you wont arrest me. Otherwise I cant speak. But know, I cant become a Hero, even if I wanted"
G tried to explain it to her why he couldnt go Pro Hero. G would lie if he said he didnt consider it. But that was wishful thinking that he could be a Pro Hero or a substitute UA teacher. His past made those paths impossible. Not unless someone erased his record, which was something that came to mind as he remembered Kaseys words.
Suddenly the lovely Misuzu returned and brought cookies to Yellow. And even abit of extra to G even though he didnt ask, not to mention she winked and smiled. This lovely lady truly was a kind soul with beautiful assets "Those are a 10/10" G thought as he rated not just the cafe "Thank you very much" he said with a kind smile

I Am On The Side of Angels Yet I Hold Sympathy For the Devil Hachi plucked one of the sugar cookies from the plate and broke off a smaller piece which she began to nibble on. They were very good--still warm from the oven, and with just a little tartness to counter how very sweet the rest of the cookie was. It would take self control not to eat the whole plate without pause, or a good conversation like the one her and G were having now.
Well, "good" in an abject sense.
"I believe that a person's past does not excuse their actions. If you have killed people before you began to target villains, then I will not be able to see past that. However," she looked down at the table like she was staring through it to the floor below, contemplating her next words carefully. If she curtly turned him away, then she may lose the opportunity to help him. And she did want to help him, in one way or another.
On the other hand, if he had preformed truly heinous acts before he decided on a more positive path, what she had said was true. She wouldn't be able to see past that. Killing for the sake of killing, hurting for the sake of hurting, made a person a monster. A villain.
But...
"However, I also believe people can change, be it for better or worse. Something could come into your life to bring out something more than what you were, or what you ever thought you could be. I think that's as true as anything in this world. So. I will not arrest you."

She had a point. She was a Pro Hero and unlike him she followed the law 100%. When she saiad her piece,h fell silent "Hmm" and for him the conversation ended. There was no point in talking. He'd get arrested and he was not ready for that. Not now when he had other problems in mind.
It seemed for a while they were just together in an awkward silence having a meal and drink. But then the Heroine spoke up again. Saying that people could change and that she wont arrest him. Still... that didnt quite earn his trust. Her inistial repsonce shut him down. So when she said this, he would have a hard time saying anything. So he did like other criminals did when they talked to cops. They all talked about 'hypothetical' situations "Right. So hypothetically I wanna become a Pro Hero like you. But the thing is you probably wouldnt be able to do it in this hypothetical situation. I mean hypothetically if you're an ex Villain, there is no way you can do better then being a Vigilante. I mean I think that hypothetically you can also train someone to become a Hero or maybe hypothetically raise an orphan to become a Hero better then you. But thats all hypothetical"
He basically told her, but not really that he wanted to be a Pro Hero like her. He likes the idea. But cant because he's an ex Villain. He knows he cant do better then a Vigilante. He's stuck with being a Vigilante at best. And he can train anyone who wants to become a Hero or raise a future hero. Thats what he told her... but not really since its all sort of 'hypothetical'.... but not really

I Am On The Side of Angels Yet I Hold Sympathy For the Devil Either G was very creative with his hypothetical ex-villain-turned-vigilante story, or he was very bad at keeping his personal history out of his hypothetical tale. That, or he was doing the thing that always happened in the movies where you assume the other party is too dumb to realize that you're talking about yourself in the clearly-not-hypothetical hypothetical. If she were in a worse mood Hachi would be irritated.
As it were, she gave a small sigh, tapping lightly at the cookie in her hands, little crumbs falling onto the plate.
"...hypothetically speaking," she began, "Being a criminal and learning from your past, growing as a person, and changing for the better would make that person a hero in their own way. Encouraging others to help those around them, and even training somebody on that same path, is also very heroic. It's...one of the reasons I work at U.A now; to help teach the next generation to not make the same errors I have is, to me, far more important than fighting criminals."
"While I would still hold this hypothetical vigilante accountable for their crimes as an ex-villain, I would not choose to arrest them for their past deeds. Instead I would offer to check in with them every now and then, to make sure they are not falling back into a villainous routine. But arresting that person, hypothetically, would likely only destroy the progress they have already been working to make themselves."
"But, as you said, that's all hypothetical." Hachi let a small smile show on her face as she looked at G. She then took another bite of her cookie and buzzed away.

After G indirectly explained his situation to her, he saw her sigh before she said her own 'hypothetical' piece on the subject. G just nodded in agreement that indeed if the Vigilante, that is himself, put in jail. He would likely just have a relapse and return to his Villanous ways, not only destroy his progress but make him worse then ever. G feels he has some sort of semblance of a normal life. Some. He was still messed up in so many ways. And even if he took a hiatus from Vigilantism, it seemed like trouble just ran into him... literally
"Yea, agreed" He said to the bee heroine and then took a sip of the hyper caffinated thing. "This taste weird" G thought
After that he was silent again. What COULD he talk about with a Pro Hero? They were from 2 very different worlds. But then it clicked an idea dawned on him. He could ask her something, but he hesitated. Actually no, he changed his mind. He was too scared to ask. There was no way he could ask this woman any advice regarding Susumu, who's Big Sister. What can he ask? HOW can he ask?? How could he possibly phrase the question in the nicest way possible?? 'Hey, so Im a Vigilante and I found out my girlfriend is a villain? Should I arrest her?'. There was no way he could say that. G made sure to finish his drink as fast as possible

I Am On The Side of Angels Yet I Hold Sympathy For the Devil The silence that fell over the table was less of the comfortable, easy-going sort and instead was the kind one wants to break with the clang of a gong, just to make some goddamn noise. Hachi continued to nibble on her cookies and drink her juice while trying to think of a new conversation topic than this rather grim one. She had invited him out to ask questions, after all. It was on her to have question to ask in the first place.
"...your Quirk is fascinating," she finally spoke, half-way through her fourth cookie. A little smile appeared on her lips. "I never met somebody who can summon an entity different from themselves like that. It's like creating your own back-up, or your own guardian...honestly, it reminds me a little of those old televisions shows I used to watch as a child. I can't place their name, though." Hachi pushed the plate a little closer to G, offering him one as he finished his drink. "He must provide good company, too. He was quite friendly. And...perhaps he even desensitize you to some of the stranger Quirks out there, like myself."
"You're one of the few people to meet me who hasn't been unnerved by my appearance right off the bat."
