I often feel like a butterfly with broken wings How... How did this happen?
Walking the same path he walked everyday after school, Ryuusei Igarashi was still in shock about what had happened that day at school. It had been the day to choose class 1-A President and Vice-President. A normal school activity, a common practice in every school. At Yuuei, it wasn't any different: every student voted for two persons - excluding themselves - and the two members of class who got the most votes won. A simple and easy process based on simple majority.
Ryuu voted for the two classmates that he knew best so far: Rinkusu and Yoruhi. However, he wasn't expecting to get any votes himself - nor did he want to. But, in all of his school years, had he ever got one single vote for such thing, so he wasn't worried about that... but he should've been.
"With four votes and, as such, the class Vice-President... Igarashi Ryuusei.", the homeroom teacher said as Ryuu's face went blank.
From how unexpected such event was, he didn't even remember what he said to the entire classroom when he got up to speak. He thought he simply said "Thank you" and returned to his seat, to the class' shock. At least, in his head, it was something like that.
He didn't knew if he really wanted to be a Hero. Hell, he didn't know if he was going to stay at Yuuei for the entire year or give up halfway through. Was this destiny pulling the floor from under him again?
This is going to be difficult... Mom and dad are going to be super happy though... And at least the President is someone I've talked to.
Still dressed with his Yuuei outfit, he was returning from school. However, he wasn't going to his own home. He had some papers on his hands as he walked listening to his music. Apparentely, both he and the Class President had to sign some papers already. The President was Rin - the small thin girl with beautiful eyes - who was even more shocked to be elected than Ryuu was.
The girl had been quick to return home, so Ryuu wasn't able to catch her. And, since the papers had be turned in until the end of that day, the homeroom teacher asked Ryuu to go to his classmate house and get her to sign them, in order for the teenage boy to email said papers to the teacher once he got home. First day at the job and already so much work...Would Rin or her parents even be confortable with Ryuu coming without any warning?
He was now at the address that the teacher gave him. Ryuu knew this was the right place from having walked with Rin back home a few days before. He took of the earphones and went to press the doorbell. It wasn't working - the house did seem to not be in a great shape, at least from the outside. Realizing that, he just knocked on the door, hoping that Rin would be home.
I'm Igarashi Ryuusei, Rin's classmate. I'm here to give her some papers related to school, he said, antecipating that the door would be answered by either her father or mother.
At that time, Ryuusei couldn't imagine what he would see inside that house.

WORD COUNT: 661 TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy Impossible. Absolutely impossible. There wasn't a single way that this could be the reality of things. In the class, there were so many people who had been more competent than herself. So many individuals with better connections to the vigilanté world. Heck, better connections in general. The girl had nothing proper to offer, other than her time. It was something Rin had contemplated; Simply telling the class that it was an impossibility for her to shoulder such responsibility. To Rin however, such an action would be incredibly rude. A vast majority of the class had chosen to put some amount of faith in her ability to keep things together, organised, clean. It went against her very nature to disappoint. So instead, Rin had decided that she was going to do everything in her power to ensure that her class would be satisfied with their choice. That 1-A, first generation at Yuuei, would be one long remembered. There had however, been a hurdle that she absolutely needed to cross to accept such responsibility. Rin's father already found her involvement with Yuuei to be a ludicrus thing. So, as soon as school had finished, Rin had rushed directly home to negotiate with Enzo.
It hadn't gone over well. The father figure in Rin's life was a dominant force in the household, not accepting or tolerating any kind of rebellion. So when the girl, despite his wishes, had chosen to go to Yuuei, there had been disciplining. Now that this defiance had been taken up a notch, as the girl declared her desire to spend more time to be a class president, he had been absolutely livid. I work hard to put food on our table. You could be out doing part time jobs instead of wasting away at that pathetic school for heroics! There is no future there, Rin! It made the girl tremble. This was her dream, where she knew she belonged. It was something she tried to express to him; When Rin had expressed her excitement and desire to continue, talking fondly of her classmates, of her teachers, of the intense first lessons, Enzo had once again shown his intolerance for defiance. You dare talk back to me, Rin?! Then you can stay in your room! You're not going to school tomorrow! Not at Yuuei anyway! Enzo confiscated the girl's school uniform on the spot, leaving the girl in a white shirt and jogging pants - essentially sleeping clothes. Confiscated her backpack with all her reading material for classes, there wasn't even something for her to read. Despite the girl struggling against him, a strong grip on her arm made it impossible for her to do anything without hurting Enzo in the process... Harshly pushed into her room, Rin fell over her own feet, bumping down onto the floor. Visible on her forearm, was a blue bruise in the shape of his hand.
The door was slammed shut, locked behind her. Enzo was shouting, something about teaching her a lesson about respect. About how the dream of being a hero would soon be gone, replaced for something not as insane. Rin's fingers curled up into small fists. For the first time in a long time, she was angry, frustrated. There were so many things that had been taken from her. So many things that she had given up on to be a better daughter for Enzo. Being a heroine wasn't something that Rin could give up on. The girl knew, ever since that episode in the hospital, that being a heroine was what she had been born to be! There wasn't much in her room to take frustration out on. Breathing fast, heavily, the anger which she couldn't release instead turned to desperation, sadness. In the corner of her room, she huddled up, hugging her sleeping bag against her chest. Being told to give up on her dreams caused her so much more pain than his physical abuse. The pain in her chest lessening the sting from the bruise on her arm, to where it was almost numb...
...but then Ryuusei knocked the door. Through the open window to her room, she could hear his voice. It wasn't rocket science to figure out what he had come here for. Rin had left so quickly, to deal with her father, that she had completely forgotten about signing the formula. Drying her eyes quickly, clearing her throat, she truly didn't want him to see her like this, but at this point, she had very little choice. Enzo opened the door, tilting his head to the side in a near hostile manner. Kid, Rin isn't ho-- Rin knew, that if she didnøt let Ryuusei know that she was there, Enzo would turn him away with a lie, not even thinking about it twice. "Give me a moment, Ryuu-kun, be right there!"... Ryuusei could hear the doorknob twitch from Enzo's grip tightening. Rin will be right with you.... The door was closed in his face. Despite Enzo's best attempts to keep the situation hidden, under control, the door being unlocked could be heard by Ryuusei clear as day...
...A few moments passed, before Rin opened the door. Still dressed incredibly poorly, her eyes red from having cried, there was a fragile, soft smile on her lips. A smile so fragile that even a single wrong word would likely shatter her into pieces. The girl's skin was littered with bruises. Many of them clearly from their undertaking at hero class. However, several of them were different. Coupled with some of them being fresh. "P-please, come.. in, Ryuu-kun.." As Ryuusei entered, what he was met with was an antique shop. Wares were placed every which where. There was an incredible amount of uncleaned dust everywhere. Many of the wares had clearly been standing there unsold for months... Guiding him past it all, they'd come immediately to Rin's room, hidden away in the back. The room was more like a large closet. A window, a lamp, a sleeping bag. There were no pictures, no posters, no shelves, nothing else in her room. There wasn't even a proper place for him to sit. Despite all of this, the girl's room was exceedingly clean. Not a speck of dust out of place... Even though they were in her room, Ryuusei could feel Enzo's attention on him. As if Ryuusei was an intruder he wanted gone as soon as possible...
"I'm s-sorry... I f-forgot the forms, didn't I?... I'll sign them now..." Rin looked at the door, seeing her father's shadow. Ryuusei could sense the change in her voice, as if she wasn't speaking to him, but rather speaking to Enzo, making her position clear. "I'll make sure to turn the other papers in tomorrow. Sorry for the inconvenience, Ryuu-kun." Ryuusei could feel it. The girl didn't want him to experience this. He could see how she was trembling with every work she spoke. How she was shattering right in front of his eyes. Yet, there she was, stating what she wanted, trying her best to stand her ground... "I-I'm sorry about.. the state of things.. We've.. Just moved...?" A blatant lie. It was so obvious it was painful... but Rin had grown up, being taught that appearance was important. So despite how obviously hopeless it was here, Rin was still... she was still smiling...

I often feel like a butterfly with broken wings After some seconds of pure silence, the door open just a little bit - enough for Ryuu to see the shadowyface of a grown man, but not for him to be able to see the inside of the house. An hostile greeting led by an hostile voice. It didn't feel like Ryuu was entering the home of a classmate: it felt that he was entering a prison... and that a very angry guard did not want him to see any prisoners.
It appeared like the man was about to say that Rin wasn't home but then, coming from far, he recognized the fragile voice of the now 1-A Class President.
"Give me a moment, Ryuu-kun, be right there!"
That was... odd, to say the least. More so because of the sound the already fragile door made by what Ryuu assumed to be the man's hand applying way more pressure than what he should to the door knob; especially odd when, with some force, the same man closed the door on Ryuu's face as he talked and went away. The fifteen year old even took a step back out of pure reflex, afraid that the door would really hit his face.
Even if she's grounded, that's a weird way to react..., he thought.
It was a possibility. Ryuu still didn't know Rin that well, nor did he knew her father. She could've done or say something to get grounded. Ryuu's parents never did this to him... also because hey never had a reason, but it wasn't an uncommon thing in the country. However, the man's attitude seemed strange - a strangeness that was confirmed by what Ryuusei heard next.
Is he unlocking... Don't tell me?!
Was he letting her daughter out? Had he punished her by locking her in her own room?! No matter what she could've done, that seemed way to harsh in Ryuu's mind. It was during these few moments during which the brown-haired kid tried to figure out what was going on that the front door opened once more.
Yo R-, he stopped himself in the exact moment that he took a look at the girl.
Her eyes were red, the same redness that comes when you just finished crying. Her clothes... they were in a bad state, a little dirty and with some holes. By the state of the house outside, she would be clearly be cold wearing only that. Not only that, it allowed Ryuu to see how skinny the girl really was. Her smile had a sadness that he had only seen previously on himself. But still, despite all those red alarms, there was another thing that made Ryuu's blood boiling, something that 99.9% of the times never happened.
The poor clothes Rin was wearing exposed much more skin than when she wore the official Yuuei uniform. And that on that exposed skin he was able to see it: marks, bruises... Some were clearly due to the recent training exercise, but others... Others were there for a long time and some were there too fresh. The one that caught his attention was the one on Rin's forearm - a bruise freshly red and only now starting to become purple with the shpe of a grown man's hand... And Ryuu had only seen one adult inside: the one he assumed to be Rinkusu's father.
Ryuusei was furious, like he hadn't been for a long time. Seeing a female body like that, such fragility and weakness hidden in a warm and comforting smile. He could remember. That hall and all the blood on it. All the cuts on his sister's body. Her seemingly lifeless eyes. Her saying that everything was going to be okay.
This, however, was all in his mind. He clinched his fist with force before entering and, in his typical voice, replied while making a small bow.
Thank you for having me, Rin-san.
Yes, he had to be normal. The father telling that she wasn't home; the way he acted at the door; the sounds; Rin's body. It all pointed to one obvious scenario, one that Ryuu had to fake being oblivious to... at least while the man could be hearing or watching.
Inside the house was a shop. No - the memory of a shop. Dust, unsold items... It told a very clear story. Ryuu kept following his classmate, not saying anything about. He remained the same when entering her room. Empty, but, unlike the rest of the house, flawlessly cleaned. It was as if it was where Rin spent all er tim and, lacking any other stuff to do, cleaning was all she could do.
No, don't think about it, he thought. Thinking about it made him angry, and he couldn't allow to show such emotion.
He sat on the ground, like it was something completly normal. He could sense that her dad was guarding the door, basically invinting him to leave, but, like he had done with everything, he pretended to be oblivious to it.
Yeah, moving can be tough. But don't worry about it, I have the papers right here - he placed the forms on the floor - I'll sign them first, then you do it, he said as he took out the pencil case out of his backpack.
There were two pieces of paper, each one with a wall of text that, at the end, required the signature of both students. With a pen, he signed both papers on his designated area.
Here, you sign it now, he said after finishing, handing her the pen and turning both papers to Rin's side but, at the same time, never letting go of them.
She would see. Yes, she would definetly notice. On Ryuusei's area: that wasn't his name nor his signature. It was something else.
On the first page: "I'm not leaving you." On the second one: "It will be fine!"
It was the best way Ryuu found to let Rin know that he figured it out; that he wanted to help. But, at the same time, not having her father find anything weird about the situation. He sat on the ground, his back against the door in a natural way but, in reality, it was in order for her father to see what he had written. Even if the man found it suspicious, Ryuu kept hold of the papers: that way he could turn them around and put them on his bag - manhandling his daughter could be easy, but having the courage or doing to the light-brown eyed boy was different.
He smiled at the girl. The first honest smile she would be seeing from him. A smile that said "I'm here. I'll help you". He was hoping that Rin took the hint to write something on her area instead of the required signature. A reuest, an indication. Anything. In the meanwhile, to keep things natural and prolong his stay as much as he could...
The homeroom teacher also suggested that we should get to know each other better and go over more things, so I was thinking that it could be a good idea for us to have dinner together. It could be at my house too. Is today good for you? Or even tomorrow after classes?
Confronting her father would only mean more consequences to Rin herself. Only the fact that Ryuusei appeared without warning would probably mean something bad. So Ryuu put his brain to work and tried his best.
Would his best be enough?

WORD COUNT: 661 TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy The anger that was apparent from Ryuusei wasn't an anger that Rin truly understood. This was the world that she had grown up in for several years. It was more or less what the girl was used to on a daily basis, so it wasn't getting as much under her skin. Having it on open display for a classmate certainly wasn't ideal, the girl knew that much. Enzo was the type to keep up appearances as much as possible. The man being a failure was only his business, it wouldn't concern anyone else! So whenever his failure was on display, he got aggressive. It was partly why Rin was so often kept completely out of the picture, almost as if she didn't exist. For a vast majority of subjects, Rin was very submissive in nature. Giving up on so many things to keep her father happy had come natural. This dream that she had, this burning desire to help others and find value in herself however.. Rin would never give it up. Not for anything. When Ryuusei wrote what he did on the paper, it hurt. It sent painful ripples throughout her body... Rin knew that things at home weren't as they were supposed to be. Rin knew that they weren't right. Even still, the girl hadn't allowed herself to consider exactly how bad things truly were.
...As the class president, the girl was no longer going to Yuuei only for her own selfish desires. There were others counting on her to do a good job. There were children at the hospital who looked forwards to hearing how she was doing. Ryuusei could see the struggle in her, her head bending forwards. Outside, Enzo was rummaging about. At the notion of inviting Rin out for dinner, he could no longer just allow the two of them to do as they pleased. There wasn't a single way that he'd allow Rin to do something like that. Rin was his little girl, she belonged at home! As he appeared in the door frame, Rin replied to him, in a shaky voice as she signed the papers. "I-I'd love to, tomorrow too!.. m-my schedule is free.." This immediately stopped Enzo from claiming that they had prepared plans. Frozen in the doorframe, Rin was hiding her face from him. Trembling, she continued. This was Rin standing up to years of being sheltered. Years of being kept in the dark. The girl had been offered a hand to prevent herself drowning, and the way she spoke and acted, showed just how desperate she was to breathe again. "...Then, y-you could help me fill out t-the blanket f-for moving into the dorms. I r-really t-think it could be f-fun... L-living at Yuuei, I m-mean."...
Behind the two students, the door closed quietly. The footsteps of Enzo were leading away from the door. The man's breathing was strangely calm, as if he had accepted this defeat. With all the arrangements being made, right in front of him, there was nothing he could do. Charging another student would only make things worse. Trying to convince her of otherwise wasn't going to work. Because Ryuusei had so clearly heard her intentions, there was nothing Enzo could do to cover it up. From the living room, behind the store, the noise of a TV being switched on made it very clear that he had lost interest. Do what you want. I don't care... Take your clothes and leave. It was a strangely defeated tone. Perhaps Ryuusei had expected a more cheerful expression on Rin's face... but the girl seemed strangely mellow, sad even. Despite everything that had happened, despite all the negative emotion this house had brought with it, Enzo was still her father, and she had loved him all these years...
...Clearing her throat, Rin slowly got to her feet. Uneasily, she walked over to the door. It was a strange moment. This door normally only opened when others opened it for her. If the girl touched it from inside, it was always locked, without exception. Pushing it open, as if time was of the essence, Rin gathered the few things that were her's; The school uniform, the books, the backpack, the sleeping bag from her room... "...L-lets go, Ryuu-kun.." The girl stuttered to Ryuusei, before heading out the door... "...I'll.. I'll be back after dinner, Otoo-sama..." Not that Rin was expecting the door to be unlocked at home. Not that she was expecting any kind of understanding... Something compelled her to return...

I often feel like a butterfly with broken wings Was... Was this the right thing to do?
It didn't seem like what he had wrote down had made Rin feel safer than she was before the boy's arrival. In fact, it seemed like it made her worse.
Am I reading too much into it?, he questioned himself while looking at her.
Her head bent forward, he was unable to fully see her eyes or facial expressions. But he could feel it. Pain, regret, a sudden realization of one's own actions... In some way, Ryuu was looking into a mirror. That long and thin raven-black hair substituted for a shorter brown one; her deep and mesmerizing blue eyes now in a more golden color; her thin and frail body giving place to a younger, more masculine one; blood and flesh of another person instead of pieces of papers. Yes, it was different but, in the fifteen year old point of view, it was the same - at least for a few seconds. Hesitation. Struggle. How could one so young move on from such troublesome situations?
I-I still can't help anyone, he thought to himself, feeling like his actions had been worthless.
Rinkusu Kurama was, however, much different than Ryuusei Igarashi, if so only by one aspect: she had courage. That voice that seemed shaky to herself was, for Ryuu's hears, a voice that could move mountains; the voice of determination, of a choice; of something he could never dream to achieve.
"I-I'd love to, tomorrow too!.. m-my schedule is free.."
After that, the little moment of silence that came was a cold one. If it was a book, the author would write that, from behind Ryuu's back, a soul fell on the ground. But the giant growing in front of Ryuusei's eyes wanted to go even further. Getting out of the cave wasn't enough for this titan seeking freedom - she needed more and that was the moment to go all-in, even if afraid.
"...Then, y-you could help me fill out t-the blanket f-for moving into the dorms. I r-really t-think it could be f-fun... L-living at Yuuei, I m-mean."
At that moment, he was sure of it: She's the coolest person I've ever met, He thought that he had no influnce in that outcome and that his notes had been useless. How stupid could he be? It was just his pathetic attempt of helping someone who didn't need such thing. Yeah, he was sure of it. He was doomed to try and fail or to not try at all, forever the Susanoo that stole the Sun from the world. But he didn't mind it. At that moment, he felt genuine happiness. Rin was able to stand for herself, to force change in a much worse situation than Ryuu's one. He was weak and she was strong. But he was indeed deeply moved by the girl's strength.
Rin face wasn't one of a victor, but no warrior smiles at the end of a long fought battle. Celebrations were for a latter time, when all is well digested. The man was still her father and that was still her home: such bonds aren't untied that easily and Ryuu understood that, so he would not question it. Instead, he just nodded at Rin, following her outside after getting his stuff back inside his schoolback. He entered without speaking a word to the girl's father and he left the same way.
They were both now outside. It was a little cold, since it was already night. Ryuu's home was still a good 15 minute walk from there, and that was if they walked fast. He didn't want to say that much to Rin. On his head, he hadn't done nothing inside so what could he possibily say now? Still in silence, he pulled out his phone and sent a message. If Rin looked, she could see what he wrote - he wasn't particularly hiding is phone afterall.
To: Mom. Message: I'm taking a friend home. Can you make dinner for her too? Something delicious, I think she would appreaciate that right now. Will be home in around 20 minutes. Thanks.
After pressing send, the phone went back on his trousers pocket. He looked at her. With those clothes, she was sure to be cold soon. And those marks...
It's getting a little cold - he looked up at the sky, both hands in his pockets. Carefree, to the point of almost desinterest, but at the same time much more emotion on his apathetic face and voice. A slight smile. A small brightness on his eyes. The stars were shining. - It is a beautiful night though.
He kept looking for some seconds. He was being honest - it had been a long time since he saw so many stars in the sky on that zone. A sign of hope, maybe. He then lowered his face, looking directly into the girl's eyes. His voice with the same mixed feelings as before, but clearly softer, yet not in a forced way.
You have a jacket on that bag? As you know we still have to walk for a little bit... Maybe I should really get that bike, don't you think?, he smiled softly, maybe for the first time in years. The girl, of course wouldn't know that.
He couldn't help himself. And he sure knew he couldn't help others. All he could do was give support. And, at that moment, he felt that no more words were needed for that.
Notes: Had a blast writing this one. Hope you enjoy it! Words: 915.

WORD COUNT: 661 TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy The tiny frame stepped away from the door with a few hastened steps. The cool evening air was touching upon her body with a silken caress, spreading goosebumps across her pale skin. Having completely stopped in her tracks, the girl simply stood there in the square, looking up towards the sky. The colors of twilight colored the horizons in a palette of colors one could only see for moments each day. Breathing softly, Rin simply stood there. What had just happened could never be taken back. What had just been lost, could never be reclaimed. The world would be a completely different place from now on. Despite the struggle to resurface, despite the enormous mountain to climb to see even the slightest glimmer of freedom, the vast majority of the troubles were still ahead of her. A gentle breeze played with the girl's blackened locks. So many emotions were whirling around inside her. Regret, despair, excitement, hope, fear, joy. It was a torrent of emotion which the girl couldn't decipher even in the slightest. The right path, the wrong path, the right decision, the wrong decision. They all melded together into one, leaving the girl mostly unable to act. A decision had been made however. The decision was to take up Ryuusei on his invitation for dinner...
...but here she was, looking ragged and worn. The girl's clothes weren't appropriate for going out for dinner, especially not visiting someone else's home. Rin hadn't even been able to take a proper shower... The girl wasn't feeling great about the situation at all. Even so, what other options did the girl have? Roaming the streets alone at evening without anything to eat didn't seem like much of a choice. Being a burden on Ryuusei and his family didn't seem like much of a choice. There were no options left. No paths that she felt she could walk. What had she done. The girl hardly heard his voice over her internal worries. Hardly registered that he spoke to her. It was all coming apart. "...Yeah, I suppose it is..." Rin responded to him almost mechanically. All the tension in the girl's body had completely disappeared. It was almost like watching someone give up...
Then he snapped her out of it. Reaffirming that the girl had a place to go. Reaffirming that he was fine taking her to his place, by simply pointing out how far they had to walk together. Despite everything that he had witnessed, he was still willing to assist. Still unwilling to turn a blind eye. A hero...? Turning her head, she looked at him. The world slowly regaining its myriad of colors. The girl's breathing softly hastened, confusion apparent in her eyes. "Uh..? Oh... Y-yeah.." The cold wasn't really registering to her at all. It was whirling around somewhere within the torrent of emotion. Strangely, feeling this many emotions all fighting for attention made her feel warm despite being cold...
Opening the bag, the girl found her school jacket, wrapping it around her figure. It immediately made the girl seem more presentable. It was like the truth being covered up right in front of Ryuusei's eyes. With the jacket closed securely around her, Rin gestured with her head for Ryuusei to begin moving. Lead the way. Although Rin knew that he lived somewhere close by the park, she wasn't exactly sure where. Besides, it was an area for the wealthy. Not an area that the girl felt she inherently belonged in. Beyond the short exchanges, Rin was not muttering a single word. Just walking behind him quietly, looking around at the world, almost as if she was seeing it for the first time. Almost as if the world was changing with every single step she took. Moments passed in silence... without even looking at Ryuu, without even speaking into his direction, a single set of words... "Thank you..."

I often feel like a butterfly with broken wings Let's go then, Rin-san - he said right after the girl got her School jacket on - I'll help you carry some of those things.
Trying to smile gently, which was something the boy wasn't used to, he leaned down in order to grab the girl's sleeping bag, allowing Rin to only have to carry her own backpack, which had some of the things she had taken inside of it. With the sleeping bag being held by his right hand, Ryuu adjusted the left strap of his own backpack with his left hand, grabbing it and not letting go. At Rin's notice, the honey eyed boy would just nod his head in agreeance and start walking in the direction of his house.
At that time, the streets were empty. The darkness and coldness of the night had everyone in the confort of their homes, eating, reading or doing any other activity. On those empty streets, one could've thought the the only light would come from the lamp posts scattered along the way. However, the stars were shining, the moon was full and the sky was clear: even in the darkness, there was a natural source of light that gave everything a blueish tone. Ryuusei Igarashi had walked those streets for his entire life, but there was something special about that particular moment.
They had been walking for around ten minutes and still had more ten to go until reaching the Igarashi household. Not a word had been spoken since they left Rin's small home. It was a conforting silece however, a quietness that Ryuu didn't want to break. Rinkusu had took the first big step towards change and was just realizing the implications of it. She had to think, she had to wonder. They would talk when she wanted, there was no point in interrupting the first taste of freedom - even if Rin was finding such taste bittersweet. With all that in mind, Ryuu just kept on slowly walking ahead of the 1-A Class President, occasionally taking a peek behind to make sure the girl was still there.
"Thank you..."
He barely heard it, but in a fragile voice Rin had really said those words. But... what did she mean? Ryuusei hadn't done nothing, at least that was what he thought.
Why should she be thankful to me?, he questioned to himself.
Rin hadn't talked directly to him, stopped herself or made Ryuu stop, so the boy kept on slowly walking. However,, he would respond clearly in a way that Rin would, without a doubt, hear what he had to say.
I just gave you support at best, the rest was all you. That took a lot of courage and that's something I can't give, it's something that you have in you. You did the right thing... - after that, he stopped walking. Body facing forward, he just turned his head a little backwards in order to look at the girl and the girl to look at him. He was smiling - And as Vice-President, my job is to always have the President's back, so don't worry: I'll be there everytime you need anything, whatever that thing might be, his voice had some kind of warmth in it. Even if it was almost none, the contrast to Ryuu's normal tone was apparent - he really was trying to show his emotions.
After thee exchange of words, both 1-A students would keep on walking. Eventually, they would reach the front door of Ryuu's home... or mansion. At the gate, Ryuu would press the door bell.He didn't say it to Rin, but the truth was he forgot the keys at home that day. While waiting for someone to open the gate, he asked Rin a simple question.
Are you hungry?

WORD COUNT: 661 TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy The torrent of words that came from the Igarashi boy managed to completely overwhelm Rin at this point. The thousand thoughts that were running through her mind couldn't comprehend the enormous amount of data that she was attempting to process. Attempting to understand the consequences of what had transpired this evening, attempting to understand the options that laid before her. It resulted in Rin looking at him rather sheepishly, the girl not quite hearing the words that he was saying. A soft sigh left the girl's lips, as she replied calmly. There wasn't any enthusiasm in her voice, nothing indiciating that she was doing better. The girl replied as if she had just done something wrong. As if she had upset him. "R-right.. I'm sorry..?"
Rin almost walked directly past the gate of the mansion, her body completely on autopilot. It was only when Ryuusei addressed another question to her, that she actually caught on to the fact that he had stopped. Coming to a halt herself, the girl began packing all the thoughts and concerns down into different boxes within her mind. The almost petrified atmosphere around her began to dissipate. It wasn't as if the issues had been solved, nor seen to any kind of conclusion. Remaining fixated on the issues however, would be insulting towards the hospitality that Ryuusei, no, the entire Igarashi family, was showing her by having her over for dinner. The expressionless blank eyes began regaining their life... Shaking her head as if to understand exactly where they were, Rin's jaw almost dropped.
They were meant to go in there, beyond that enormous gate? This is where the Igarashi lived..? The buildings themselves were large enough to house the entirety of Enzo's humble little abode fifteen times over if not more. Then there was all the open space. Ornamental figurines, traditional japanese setups with running water. It was far too fancy for someone of her stature. It wasn't a world that she belonged in. This home was open, free, inviting. Rin's understanding of home was entrenched, suffocating, imprisoning. Swallowing, the girl experienced a knot in her throat. "I'm... N-not sure I can go in. I r-really shouldn't... I m-mean, I am not p-presentable.."
The silent plea made it very clear that Rin, in this moment, couldn't see her classmate as her equal. In fact, there wasn't a single classmate that the class president could see as her equal. They were all better than her. Yet they all showed her faith and kindness, to a degree that she couldn't understand or comprehend. Despite her best attempt at hiding it, the girl was hungry. Stomach growling, as his small comment made her think of food, her arms instinctively covered herself, another short sigh left her lips... "...I g-guess I am a little hungry..." It was so difficult for her to accept his help. Only because being a burden was the last thing she'd ever want to impose onto others.

I often feel like a butterfly with broken wings He was about to reply to her comment about her not being presentable. What could she mean by that?! Despite her clothing not being in the best of states, she would never going to be judged for that. Maybe the sight of the large property in which Ryuusei lived was scaring the girl - a clash of realities.
However, when Rinkusu replied to Ryuu's previous question by saying that she was hungry, the young boy thought it best to not reply to the other part of the conversation. The day had been a rough one for the new 1-A Class President and, at least for the next hours, Ryuu would try his best to mak her forget her problems. He was sad, but he could try to make others happy.
Well, then let's go ahead and s-
Before he could finish the sentence, the gates opened and a mountain of a man stood before both kids, screaming. The loudness and softness of his voice made for an interesting contrast.
I AM HERE! - he yelled, just before shifting his eyes to Ryuu and Rin - AND YOU ARE ALSO HERE!
The man, who easily stood at more that 2,00m tall and had a well defined muscular and heavy body, was wearing a silver bathrobe above his striped silk pajama. On his feet he had simple slippers. His long hair, the same color as Ryuu's, tied into a ponytail, his honey coloured eyes and facial signatures - he was Ryuusei's father. However, despite the visible physical similarity, their personalities couldn't be more different.
You could've just opened the gate from the inside...
How could I my boy?! We have a guest, she must be properly greeted! - he looked into Rin before continuing, his voice turning more soft than loud as he continued - Welcome to our home my beautiful young lady, I'm glad that Ry-Ry finally has friend! I'm Igarashi Minato. What might your name be?

WORD COUNT: 661 TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy Ryuusei had mostly fallen quiet. It was because of Rin, was it not? Perhaps it was one of the stupid things the raven-haired female had said. For a few moments after she had spoken, it was clear that he was thinking. It wasn't clear to her what he was thinking, exactly. A few times, Rin had been on the verge of apologizing for being such a bother. Every time, there was something which had cut her off. This time, it was Ryuusei beginning to speak. The words spoken weren't indicative of anything, for before his sentences were finished, the gate had begun opening. A hulking monstrous terror of a man barged out towards the both of them. The ground practically shook whenever this man took a step. Giant, terrifying. The girl's instincts immediately told her that she was in danger, mistaking that the man was being aggressive rather than joyous. Crossing her arms in front of herself, she tugged her head in towards her chest. There wasn't any sound coming from the girl. No plea for help, no attempt to bargain for not being hurt. Instead, she was bracing herself. Prepared to take the punishment without making a sound. Suddenly it made sense why the girl's arms had so many horrifying marks on them. Always bracing...
When nothing but a positive voice came at her, stating I am here! You are also here! the girl equally quickly lowered her guard, looking at anything but Minato. It was embarassing to be reacting in such an extreme way. Breathing fast and heavily, the adrenaline surging through her body made it impossible to hide how Minato had initially startled her. Badly, even. Trying to reply with her system overloaded on adrenaline, her stuttering had become even worse. It must've been a pain to try and decipher what the raven haired female was speaking. "H-h-h-h-hel-hello... Sir, I mean.." Fortunately for Rin, Ryuusei remained utterly and completely calm. A simple comment about how his father could've opened the gate from inside killed a lot of the awkward tension in the air. A series of deep breaths, and Rin was slowly regaining her composure...
Slowly turning her gaze to look at Minato, the initial impression that he was a monster of a man most certainly held true. With his well trained figure, she was fairly certain he could snap her in two if he tried. Despite this, the beaming smile on his face, the deep satisfied grunt in his voice. Minato was emanating an aura as if he was an enormous puppy, excited to have a visitor. Still, when his face turned to look at her again, Rin quickly looked away. Meeting his eyes head on was something she remained incapable of doing. "I-it's my p-pleasure be-being here, Minato Igarashi-sama." Looking at his feet, the girl shifted her body around so she was facing him, offering a deep and polite bow. Still very clearly on edge, it seemed difficult for her to grasp why... why he wasn't angry with her.

I often feel like a butterfly with broken wings Minato hadn't noticed a thing. Or he probably did and chose not to mention it at all or show any physical or verbal response to it - Ryuusei's father was a loud and always happy man but, at the same time, the most perceptive and intelligent person that the youngest Igarashi knew. His mother always said that Ryuu got his intelligence from his father... at times it was very hard to believe such thing, but others even Ryuu himself got shocked with Minato's words and action.
But what was there to notice? For a brief moment, when Minato was arriving, Rin made a very specific reaction. Crossed arms, low head: a defensive stance, that of a damaged flower that was ready to be hurt once again. Even when her brain aknowledged that Ryuu's father wasn't a threat, her body didn't believe such thing. Almost shaking, stuttering words almost to the point of them becoming uncomprehendible. What could Ryuu do? The best thing would be to remain calm himself, hopefully giving Rin confidence and a feeling of safety. That's when he talked. A simple comment about how his father could've just opened the gate from inside the house... well, mansion.
It seemed to work. Glancing at Minato, Ryuu could even see a smile. A smile that said "Good job!". Minato had this thing of encouraging Ryuu anytime he did something good or hero like. Sometimes it annoyed the soon to be sixteen year old. Other times - like now - it also made him smile. As Rin told the head of the househould that it was a pleasure to meet him and made a bow to him. Minato, with his happy and friendly voice, was quick to respond.
The pleasure is all mine! It's not everyday that such a beautiful young lady comes to visit! And please! - he was quick to straighten his body posture, giving two thumbs up to Rin - No need for formalities, just call me Minato!!, if Rin looked up for a little bit, he could see the brightest smile that Minato had.
During RIn initial nervous state, she didn't remeber to give her name to Minato. Ryuusei noted that and was quick to think of something that, not in a obvious way, would help his father.
Dad, it's great that you came outside just to meet us, but me and Rin are really hungry.
Of course you are, I bet your mother has the food almost ready, which means..... - it was like Minato had seen a ghost and was lost for words.
... that you should probably go inside and have the table ready before she notices that you haven't done it already.
SEE YOU INSIDE KIDS!
And, just like that, Minato ran inside almost faster than the speed at which he had gone outside. It was incredible seeing how fast Minato was despite being so tall and heavy. Ryuu scratched the back of his head, turning it a bit to the side in order to talk to Rin.
He's very different from me, but I swear that he is, in fact, my father... Let's go inside, okay?, he tried to give a conforting smile at the end.
Expecting Rin to follow him, he startd to walk inside, a path that he had done a million times. When they arrived at the entrace, Ryuu began taking off his shoes before walking inside - something he didn't feel the need to warn Rin about, since it was probably the most common thing in a japanese household.
The house was enormous and, for a first time visitor, it could feel like a maze. Ryuu was obviously navigating through it easily, but if Rin didn't follow she could get lost at some point. However, despite being rich people house, there was quite a simplicity in it: one felt innerent peacefullness in each division, each hall and each decoration piece.
Arriving at the kitchen, Hiroko was still cooking. It smelled wonderfully. Even at her age, her beauty was notorious, leaving one only to imagine what she could've looked like when she was younger. Her blonde hair was tied up, leaving her face exposed. She had soft lips, a tiny nose and deep blue eyes. She seemed foreign and that was half right: her father was japanese, but her mother was european.
Hi mom, Ryuusei said, calling for Hiroko's attention.
Oh Ry, you're here already!
Hiroko stopped cooking and walked towards both Ryuu and Rin. She gave one kiss to each cheek of her son and proceeded to do the same to Rin, like it was the most normal thing in the world.
My name is Hiroko, it's really nice to meet you sweetheart - her voice was really soft and, overall, happy... one could only wonder from where Ryuu had gotten his cold tone - I'm running a little late with the dinner, I'm so sorry, both of you must be starving!
It was only by having Rin besides him that Ryuusei started to notice how much of a mother Hiroko really was.
My dear, If you want I prepared some things for you to have a shower, but if you don't feel confortable with that don't worry! My little Ry can show you the house instead while I finish things here, so do as you want okay? - she smiled at Rin and then focused her attention to her son, using her hands to make him smile - And you put a smile on your face, aren't you happy that your friend's here??
Yes, I am mom... - by his voice it was obvious that he was accostumed to this kind of teasing from Hiroko.
After the interaction, Hiroko would go back to finish dinner. If Rin accepted the offer to have a shower, Ryuu would walk her to the bathroom. If not, he would show her the entire house.

WORD COUNT: 661 TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy The interactions were going so fast, with Rin's body hammering out adrenaline, her heart pounding like a war drum. Eyes watching Minato carefully, everything regarding Rin was currently screaming I am prey. If I do not protect myself, I will be eaten. Despite how aware Rin was of Minato's lack of interest in hurting her, it was somewhat still embedded into her body's reactions. Rin hardly noticed how Ryuusei managed to give his father her name. It was all so delicate that it practically passed Rin by. "H-hai, Minato-s.." Rin barely managed to bite the last word short, struggling with the idea of addressing someone superior by first name alone.
For a few lonesome moments, Rin simply stood there, completely lost in her own thoughts. A man, many times larger than Enzo was, showing a gentleness and kindness that she couldn't have imagined Minato would be capable of. Those enormous hands, moving so slow and gracefully. Initially, Rin had imagined him as accidentally cracking open an egg if he was to take hold of it. His muscles seemed to indicate as much being a possibility, at least. Albeit, seeing his movements, his carefulness, Minato could probably carry anything fragile without much problem at all. A stark opposite to Enzo, who was angered by practically anything. That man had taken to destroying everything fragile around him. Rin had learned to deflect him by pretending to be content, by smiling. When Minato began running off, the gracefulness of his movements was sorely lacking. Rin could practically feel the earth quake underneath her feet with every step of the man behemoth. "Your father seems very kind." Rin spoke, looking after the man with her sapphire blue eyes. "...and also very large." Offering Ryuusei a soft smile, Rin followed him towards the buildings, doing her best to not be overwhelmed by the sheer size of everything.
The Igarashi household was very traditional, in a sense. The decorations were speaking volumes. Sheated katanas, mastercrafted specifically to rest within the household. Japanese etchings and paintings on the walls. The authenticity of stepping into the home, was somewhat surreal. It was almost like stepping into a house bel0nging several centuries in the past. Ryuusei didn't allow Rin too much time to stand around loitering, looking at the art and decorations. Instead, he was cutting directly towards their destination. A destination Rin assumed was the kitchen, as they were greeted by the scent of cooking. Taking a deep breath, the scent had Rin sigh a soft aaah.. The scent was wonderful, alluring. So different to the meals Rin herself could cook. So different to the half old bread that often had been her breakfast.
The greeting by Hiroko was pleasant, yet also very strange. It had been many, many years since anyone had greeted Rin by placing kisses onto her cheeks. A little flustered, Rin immediately looked away, unable to reciprocate the greeting in any real extent. "Hiroko Igarashi-sama.. P-pleased to make your acquaintance." Rin managed to stutter, once again bowing her head respectfully. Perhaps it seemed a little strange with how close Hiroko had gone, stepping directly into Rin's personal space without a care in the world. Still, Rin viewed herself as below these fine people. Almost like a girl picked up on the street, brought into a rich family. Uncertain of how to act, Rin was standing exactly in place. Careful not to touch anything... Rin didn't want to make their home dirty.
Whether it was to answer the girl's pleas, or simply Hiroko deciding that Rin was in desperate need of a shower, the offer was given. An offer that Rin very quickly nodded her head to. Not only because she desperately wanted to feel clean within this household, also because she found it rude to reject the offer... Following Ryuusei to the showers, Rin looked around a little, confused, before entering. Everything was so high class compared to what Rin had at home. It felt strange undressing in such a place. This was not a public place where others came to shower. This was a private shower. Still, clean water, fresh soap. It made Rin feel much better about the unfolding predicament.

I often feel like a butterfly with broken wings Even to Ryuu's surprise, Rinkusu had accepted Hiroko's offer for her to take a shower. He knew that his mother offer came from a good place, but it could seem weird for Rin. Ryuu never texted his mother like he had done previously, not even to talk about bringing someone over and in such short notice. Hiroko definetly knew that it was something serious from that. And, after seeing Rin's thin body and messy clothes, aswell as the bags she and Ryuu were carrying, Hiroko got a confirmation of her previous thoughts. She wanted Rin to feel good and relaxed, not like she didn't belong.
Well, just follow me, he said, starting to walk in the direction of the main bathroom.
Being essentially a mansion, the Igarashi household had many bathrooms: essentialy, each bedroom - inclunding the two guest ones - had its own private bathroom. However, on the upper floor where all the bedrooms were located, there was also a common bathroom with a shower. It was there that Ryuu was heading, assuming that it was the bathroom that his mother was refering too.
The upper floor was mostly decorated as the rest of the house. However, it had two main differences: the first was what was hanging on the walls. Instead of the traditional japanese paintings, swords and armors, the walls had many family pictures: some photos of the entire family together, others of Yaso and Ryuu together and others with only Ryuusei or his sister.. The other difference was that this upperside was partly open on its interior - just like a balcony - allowing one to look at the inner garden that was at the center of the mansion.
Not that far from the stairs they reached the bathroom. Opening the door, Ryuu could confirm that it was, in fact, the right one. Cleaned towels and clothes carefully placed for Rin to dress. Looking at them, Ryuu could instantly see that they were Yaso's clothes: white slippers, light yellow pajama pants and a plain white long sleeve pajama shirt.
My sister is a little bit taller than you, but they should still fit, I hope that's okay. I'll be downstairs helping, take as much time as you want!
Saying goodbye, Ryuu left and went downstairs. When Rin finished her shower and arrived downstairs, she could easily follow the scent of the food into the surprisingly small and confy dining room. There, at the table, Minato, Hiroko and Ryuusei would already be sitting. Rin's place would be in front of Ryuu and, at the table, home made Oyakodon for everyone.

WORD COUNT: 661 TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy Being invited into the home of individuals that were practically strangers. Being invited to dine together with them as an equal, despite being anything but their equal. Given permission to use their shower, even receiving a set of clothes belonging to the older sister. It was all a little overwhelming. The bathroom door was locked behind Rin, as she looked around in confusion. Was taking a gander at the surroundings inappropriate, could it be considered snooping?.. Then there was the whole dilemma with her father, how the bonds of kinship between them had practically been broken. Now finally alone, the emotions washed over her as a typhoon. Impure, filthy, disgusting. That is what Rin felt in those moments, and the tears were silently running through the gaps in her fingers. Quivering on her feet, the raven haired female buried her face into her hands, Rin was struggling with breathing calmly. Quietly undressing, the running water from the shower hose would mask any sounds of discomfort to the outside world. It was something that Rin needed to comprehend for herself first. As long as the girl's inner peace was disturbed by such turmoil, there was no hope in interacting with anyone at a proper level. Stepping into the running shower, Rin tilted her head backwards, as the cleansing waters rinsed her, not only of the sweat and physical leftovers, but also of stress and mental fatigue. With every drop, a bit of dreary darkness lodged itself from her, spilling down into the pipes below. With the flower, foresty scent of the soap, it felt like this bubble of dread finally cracked open, allowing Rin to breathe freely. Running her fingers through the dark locks of hair, Rin slowly returned to reality. Realizing that if she remained under the shower for too long, it'd probably get awkward. So, using the shower-brush, the girl began efficiently scrubbing herself off. It had been a while since she had been showering with proper soap. It was strange how high quality products could make ones skin feel soft as silk...Stepping out of the shower, Rin made sure to clean up after herself, leaving no strands of hair anywhere. Even going so far as to wipe off the shower head and thermostat, so as the drying up water would leave no white lines. Drying herself up, brushing her hair, getting dressed in the provided set of clothes, Rin had probably taken a solid twelve to fifteen minutes in getting herself clean and presentable. Hopefully something the Igarashi household wouldn't be too dissatisfied with. At least now, Rin felt a little more confident and comfortable. Not feeling like you'd scare others away with a stench of sweat was a most welcome change.Yaso's clothes were indeed slightly too large for Rin. The shirt was practically resting on her chest. The pants were almost baggy, only held up by Rin having tightened the strap around her own waist significantly. In the white slippers, with her hair freshly wet, Rin may have looked a million times more casual than before. The raven black locks were freed from the ponytail, falling graciously over her shoulders. Almost like a family member having come home late from work, jumping into the shower quickly, to go join them for dinner. Although the house wasn't one Rin was familiar with, finding the stairs downstairs hadn't been too difficult at all. Carefully laid together, Rin also carried her old set of clothes in her hands, unsure of where to leave it... The sapphire blue eyes looked to each member of the Igarashi, as Rin bowed respectfully again. "I apologize for holding up your dinner." While bowing, the scent of food made her tummy rumble, loudly enough that Hiroko would've been able to hear it. Thus, the apology would be incredibly short, as Rin hopped forwards to take her seat beside Hiroko, in front of Ryuusei. "T-the food smells fantastic, Hiroko-s..." Biting her tongue once again, being polite and well mannered was clearly hammered so deeply into Rin. Perhaps that hammering was what had left the blue marks across her arms...

I often feel like a butterfly with broken wings Rinkusu didn't take long in the shower. Fifteen minutes, maybe even less. Looking at the clock that was on one of the room's walls, Ryuu was sure that it couldn't have been more than that.
During the time that the girl was on the upstairs bathroom Ryuusei explained a little of what had happen before they arrived, the cause of him taking Rin home with him on such a short notice. His parents didn't ask for such explanation, but Ryuu felt like he should give one. He told them the situation at her home, how he tried to handle it and how the 1-A Class President stood up to her father and left home. At the end of it - before either Minato or Hiroko could respond to the whole story, Ryuu finished with a question... well, more like a request.
So... Is it okay if she stays for at least tonight?
His father pointed how dumb of a question that was and Hiroko told Ryuu that she was really proud of both him and Rin. That was enough for him to know what the answer for his request was.
She looks cute, Ryuu thought as Rin sat in fornt of him and Hiroko was telling her that she didn't need to say sorry because the Igarashi's were happy to wait for her before eating. Ryuu's mother also told Rin to leave her clothes in the nearby closet that she would later take care of them, Ryuu, however, was too distracted looking at his classmate. It made him happy that she was apparently more relaxed, something well deserved after what she went through that night.
However, it was difficult seeing those clothes on her. One part of him was obviously happy for her, more than he ever was it some way. She deserved that moment, that food, to feel well and happy. But another one... A deep and dark part of the boy just couldn't accept that. It should be Yaso sitting there, he wished that Yaso was still able to be there. More so, how could his parents not visit their daughter in the hospital and then give her clothes to somebody else?
Kiddo, we all know she's gorgeous, but looking for so long isn't very subtle...
Huh?
Apparently everyone already had food on their own plate, even himself. And, by what it seemed...
I've been looking her in the yes for this long?!
S-Sorry!
Ryuu's face became extremely red and, with the speed of a lightning bolt, his turned his head down and started eating as fast as he could, trying to pretend nothing had happened.
After that, the dinner went quite well. Hiroko and Minato telling Rin the story of how they met and sharing embarrasing stories of Ryuusei's youth while he sometimes would speak, either to use his dry and cold humour or to assure Rin that his parents were exaggerating. When everyone was done and the conversation died down, both Minato and Hiroko got up.
We'll take care of things here, so you two can get going!
Sweetheart - Hiroko was talking to Rin - I'm going to clean your clothes and have them ready by tomorrow morning. I hope that's okay because I won't take a no as a answer! she finished in a cheerful tone.
Okay, we're going upstairs then. 'Night.
Both Hiroko and Minato wished a goodnight to the two students and then, followed by Rin, Ryuusei went upstair, in the direction of his bedroom.
It was a large room, but it had things big enough to make it look small. The two things that one would instantly gaze their eyes upon were the big classical piano on one side of the room and, on the opposite wall, a giant bookshelf that was as high as the ceiling and reached each end of the wall. The piano as black and the bookshelf was completly full with books of all types. Near the bedroom door there was a desk with all the regular stuff one would expect: a laptop, some school material, a chair, etc... On the wall in front of the door there was Ryuusei's bed, a king-sized one built into the floor.
So, this is my room - he said as he walked in - But don't worry, you'll sleep in one of the guest ones, my mother probably already has one prepared.
He didn't know how to ask Rin to sleep there, so that was his way of asking. Well, not really asking - more like introducing the subject. Ryuusei was just sure that he didn't want her to go back to her father's home, at least not that night.
