Post by Emi Ryoko Tachibana on Feb 1, 2019 19:49:22 GMT -4
With an absent-minded wave to her chauffeur, Emi stepped out of the car. Her eyes weren’t on him, or the campus in front of her, but her iFruit. Five minutes before the meeting time, and she couldn’t afford to be late. First impressions were so hard to override that she found herself at a light jog at the thought of being late. Besides, she had to make up for her presentation. Perfectly fine by anybody else’s standards, but to the surprise of absolutely nobody, Emi took pride in her appearance. Unfortunately, a combination of the harsh winter and her latest training regime called for more casual attire. Mostly the latter, which explained why she’d been training off-campus to begin with. UA was a treasure trove of environments and equipment, but there was one thing it couldn’t provide her with: the ocean. An exercise that called for her to get soaking wet called for a change of clothes after, which left Emi looking… great. But not great enough, in her eyes. Which was a shame, because with two days to go before her big day the rescue event, there was no time to waste trying to get the other students to see her better outfits.
Instead, she’d summoned all of UA’s rescue course participants to her side, though she only expected half of them to turn up. Not that that was a problem - if all went to plan, she would only need half. There was a method to her madness, as one of her potential teammates had already realised. As nice as it would be to share tea and biscuits before the day, Emi had an evaluation in mind. An evaluation that started from the moment she’d hit Send.
The day was drawing to a close, but the sports festival had barely begun. Students and staff alike readied stalls and stands around her for the big day, which meant a huddle of students wasn’t too far out of place. She had enough time to meet and chat, with enough ambience to stop anybody from easily eavesdropping (unless their quirk allowed them to do just that, of course), but little more. More importantly, their meeting would be visible. She hadn’t forgotten that points were on the line, and the best way to get those points was to be noticed. If there was anything to be gained from gathering her cohorts, she’d chosen the best place for it.
Five minutes had passed. Her eyes flickered between the doors and her phone. Who would arrive? Who would text their excuses? Who was going to question and criticism every other word she said? Somebody always did, much to her chagrin, but at least she could shut them down if they tried that in person. No. She needed to think positively. Anybody that bothered to arrive had enough of an open mind to consider her idea worthwhile, which meant they were more than a naysayer… and a potential ally. If they were lucky, they would all find allies in each other. 506 words | | Turn Order: None! Chaos! Anarchy! |

--- arisu --- - - -
Arisu was right on time, which should surprise absolutely nobody.
What might have been surprising was her outfit.
She bolted onto the scene dressed in sneakers, warm socks, a Yuuei orange skirt over similarly colored bloomers, a cropped top with the school's logo across the chest under a warm-looking jacket, and a backpack currently crammed with her hero outfit and some street clothes. From the look of it, she'd had to sprint to make it on time from whatever she'd just been doing, which... seemed to have been cheerleading, apparently. She wasn't overly winded, but she had been exerting herself, and a few, fading dark squiggles on her wrists suggested she'd been using her quirk to aid her maneuvering and literally cut corners more sharply than she would otherwise have done. Still, she made it on time and with a smile on her face, so how much criticism could she really garner in the end?
"Hi! Emi-chan! Hello! Imadeit! Right? Not. Toolate?" Her words came between deep, controlled huffs of breath as she recovered from the measured breaths she'd used while running. "I didn't. Have time to. Change after. Cheer practice. I can. If I need to. Though!" Wasn't it cold dressed like that? Probably, but she wasn't complaining. "Man, I'm really glad you took point on organizing this," admitted Arisu, starting to recover her breath. "I don't think I'd have managed to talk anyone into showing up. I tried and you saw how everyone took it. You're so much better at commanding attention than I am, it's really inspiring." She took another deep breath to try to force herself to relax and resume normal breaths, adding, "Did you learn to do that advertising your streams? Or are you naturally good at that?"
She kept an eye out while she spoke, interested in who might arrive and what foreign students might be wandering around. It also helped to distract from her outfit. It was a lot less modest than she usually wore, and while it was miles short of scandalous, the more she thought about it, the hotter her cheeks got and she really didn't want to look embarrassed in front of Emi. She didn't regret her outfit- joining the cheer squad had already proven rewarding and exciting, but she was concerned about others -thinking- she might be embarrassed of her outfit. Better to look aloof and make conversation than leave her comfort in question. Of course she was comfortable in this. Who wouldn't be? It was cute and sporty and everyone dreamed about being a cheerleader, didn't they? And how many cheerleaders could launch themselves a story and a half straight into the air?! Yeah, this was exciting. Fun!
And not at all an anxiety feeding nightmare.

Post by Shimizu Haruto on Feb 1, 2019 21:57:28 GMT -4
It had been a relatively early day for Haruto. As club president, of course he had to supervise the setup of his club's stall! Especially considering that each of their four groups was doing something else. Well, it had been surprisingly easy to set it up in a way such that it could convert between the four necessary setups in a few minutes without hassle. With the home field advantage allowing Haruto to set up his stall in a good spot, he had no doubt that this festival would be anything but a great success for his cooking club. On a whim, he took a peek at the school's official chatroom on his phone- Only to see something pertinent to him. It was simply good timing- Haruto wasn't known for scrolling, so if he had been just a minute later he may never have seen it.
It, was a gathering for students who would be participating in the rescue course during the festival. Quickly tossing in that he would be there, Haruto didn't forget to advertise the stall while he still could. He was almost done here, anyways- He would just put the finishing touches on, pass it off, and hope it wasn't burnt down when he came back for his shift.
Well, along the way, he seemed to have accidentally picked up a new club member. It took a few minutes of contemplation and discussion, but in the end, Haruto managed to get him situated. Surely, Tetsuko would be able to look after him- Haruto didn't know their new member at all, and even the formalities would have to wait until after the festival. Well, it probably wouldn't be a problem?
With this utterly irresponsible handoff, Haruto finished up his work on the club's stall and headed out. He knew Emi- Had worked with her on a rescue practice before. Neither of their finest work, he suspected. Hopefully this time would go better. It had to. If not, what had he been working for all this time?
"Good morning, Emi!" Haruto called out to the girl as he approached. "I'm afraid I didn't exactly get the chance to introduce myself last time. Shimizu Haruto, Support Studies VP." Thankfully, this time, nothing exploded to interrupt their greetings.

Post by Momonji Yamada on Feb 2, 2019 15:08:07 GMT -4
Like most days, Momonji Yamada rose at the crack of dawn with a reluctant groan to greet the rising sun. Growing up in a family of farmers had engrained an unshakable internal clock into the teen, and despite all his best efforts he found himself unable to sleep in. After tossing about in a futile attempt to lull himself back into dreamland, he sat up with a sigh and rolled out of bed. Sleepily rubbing the crud from his eyes, Momo sauntered through his dorm to retrieve the tiny plastic bucket he kept his toiletries in. Despite his rather messy tendencies, this boy respected and feared the potency of adolescent hormones and the scents they manifested. In his mildly dazed state of mind he shuffled through the boys side of the dorms, noticing the silence that came at this hour, and envious of his classmates still slumbering in their beds. His shower went by rather uneventfully, like most mornings he had the place to himself, able to savor all the hot water he could greedily use up as he deliberated his cleaning ritual. He would often take hours, savoring the warmth and feeling of the water, a. small step down from the comfy confines of his bed. The bucket contained a cornucopia of tiny sample-sized bottles of soap, likely nicked from a plethora of hotel rooms and displays. While he had no real aversion to buying his own soap, he also didn't see the need to let perfectly good products go to waste. Like most things deemed 'free', Momo would horde these gifts even if he didn't have a use for them in the long run. In the case of all the soap and shampoo... well everyone needed soap. Reaching down he grabbed the first bottle his fingers touched. Squinting a smidge, he inspected the label, it only took using an expired soap once to instill a lifelong lesson on expiration dates. "Peach... again?" he let out a soft groan as he emptied the tiny bottle of body-wash into his wash towel. Freshly clean and ready to embrace the day, Momo stared at the foggy mirror of the dorm bathroom, glaring at his visage as he pummeled his teeth with his toothbrush. Momo didn't really hate his face, but it just didn't feel to suit him too properly. He wasn't a pretty boy by any means, nor did he really emit a sense of masculinity. He was just... fresh looking, potentially not quite ripe. Scratching his chin, he tugged at it in the faint hope he could cause some hair to appear. Guys with beards were so cool! Alas he remained baby faced despite all his tugging. Wrapping a towel around his hips, he made his leisurely retreat back to his room. As he grabbed the first shirt he had crumpled up in his basket of clean laundry, he hastily tugged it on over his head. The wrinkled clothes he tugged on could have seen better days, but at least they were clean. It was about this time he noticed his phone had died. Plugging it in, Momo waited for enough power to return to it before nearly jumping back as it burst to life. It seemed some people had been trying to get a hold of him. Pulling up the first message, a number he didn't recognize, he was halfway into typing out 'new fone, who dis' before the meaning of the message became apparent to him. Closing the phone he let out a faint sigh, not due to the subject of the message, nor was he exasperated at the request being made. You see he had forgotten entirely about the sports Festival, signing up for it more out of peer pressure than any particular desire to impress anyone. He found some merit in answering the summons, at least he hoped there would be a point to this gathering beyond the possibility of making some new acquaintances. Deleting his originally typed message, he switched to 'reply all' and simply keyed in "KK" before setting his phone down again. As the previously agreed meeting time eventually came about, Momo found himself running just a minute behind. He was not usually someone for punctuality, but the day had proven to be painfully uneventful, much to the point that he had been looking forward to this meeting. At least all this sports festival stuff would help him pass the time. Strolling up he caught the others as they were just arriving, exchanging jovial words of greeting and generally acting pleasant to one another, that was a good sign. While it might be odd not really knowing anyone here too well, strangers were just chums you hadn't met yet... at least that's what his dad had used to say. Looking about, it seemed everyone had somewhere they belonged, perhaps he should join a club too. "Yo..." he stopped as he waited his turn to talk in the gathering, pausing for another boy to introduce himself. "...Yeah, I'm Momonji Yamada... no affiliation" Scratching at his head, he settled for the simplest and most direct form of greeting.

Post by Mozuku Momoko on Feb 2, 2019 18:44:49 GMT -4
Momoko was feeling positively exhausted. The build-up to the festival had positively wrecked her sleeping schedule as she did her best to scrap together something for her own stall at the Science Fair. She had genuinely forgotten all about the rescue course up until the invitation this Emi's little meeting. She didn't know what to make of it at first, but she did get the time to think about it as the day progressed a bit.
Setting up a stall on her own would have been a herculean effort. Thankfully she had managed to recruit some help, including the one boy who was still feeling guilty about accidentally kicking her a month ago. Momoko mainly served as the organizer, telling what went where and exclaiming various things when some delicate objects were being handled with far less care than the small girl would have been comfortable with. But ultimately it was going fine, and before long everything vital had been brought. The next part would just be the arrangement. It was then when Momoko did a sudden decision.
"....ooookayyyy, everyoooone! Let's have a smaaaaall break! Meet up here in about an houuuuur!" She received an assortment of quiet nods as a reply to her drowsy announcement, but that was fine. They would most assuredly come back in time. Her carrot about a single request when it came to support equipment would surely be too good to pass up. She started to sluggishly make her way towards where this supposed meeting was supposed to happen. As vexing as it was to admit... she had ultimately come to the conclusion that she couldn't afford whatever this was. Even if it would ultimately be some irrelevant nonsense, at least it might help her get into the proper mindset for a challenge like that. And if it wasn't, all the better. Through these very flimsy rosy lenses, it would be a win-win.
Momoko still didn't have Emi's appearance in her memory well enough to pick her from the crowd, but some of the faces around her helped. Mainly Haruto; from what she knew of the vice-president, he would most definitely be among those participating in the rescue operation... unless he had some serious surprises up his sleeve. She... unfortunately also recognized the other girl who had already managed to show up. The boy she didn't recognize.
The small girl would let out a big yawn as she got closer. "Moooorning! I'm assuming this is the riiiiight place for the rescue folkssss." Everything about Momo's being, up to her speech, was very sluggish. She was definitely in the need of one of her daily sleeps. She did have energy for a small greeting wave to the giant teammates, however. "Mozuku Momoko. Why am I heeeeeere?"

| if i'm a danger to myself Just think what I could do to you tagged |
Chikako Saiafa got the invite to this meeting. Chikako noticed that the invite was from none other then whom to chikako she knew as Chimera's girlfriend; Emi. A familiar face to Chikako, she had met her once during the Movie Night that was hosted a month ago on Christmas eve, a lot had happened but so little at the same time. Chikako seeing that it was at least a familiar face, decided that it would at least be worth it to plop into see, it was not that much out of her way since she lived on campus and the art club never seemed to be around that much.
She walked to the place the meeting was suppose to take, looking down at her notebook as she walked. She had been working on a new piece of art she was anxious to finish and make into an actual piece of art, she thought it would be cool to decorate her room with her own drawings. However, she was having a hard time being happy with what she had drew, desperately she kept changing it trying to get it to just the way she was visualizing it. Even as she moved about, she was making subtle changes to it despite it being quite dangerous to do so.
The piece was nothing that interesting in itself, however it was something that was quite renown in the world; the legendary shield, Priwen. Something about it's legend interested the deaf girl's imagination.
Finally getting there, she flipped it to a blank page so she could write down anything she needed to communicate to them. She bowed gently towards everyone in current attendance and wrote down before raising the book in everyone's direction with the following words: "Hello all, I am Chikako Safaia, you may call me Chikako-san if you like! I don't mind people using my first name!", she added that list bit trying to appear a little more friendly then she usually was. She was notoriously shy, she was surprised she was not shaking in fear of the people around her right now but she was so obsessed with drawing the shield that she was so out of it and narrow minded she did not even seem to think about the things around her; for the best or the worse it would not be known quite yet.
She looked around, putting the book down unless someone gestured for it before blinking and blushed. She wrote down something again before flashing the book towards everyone. "Sorry, I am not trying to be rude, I am deaf! I mean I can hear SOME things its just blurry half the time. Um, please use this book to talk to me!", she said showing the whole group for a minute before she put it down. She was embarrassed about being deaf, it was not a happy trait, however it would be even more embarrassing if these these people that did not know her like Emi thought she was being rude but not speaking towards the group.

❝You're showing me colours of the sky, But all I see is Grey❞ 388 w. Rescue kenjutsu-f | reinforcement-f | radiant dawn-e It was going to be a long day, so it would be best to get all of her chores over with early. Her morning training regiment was shorter than usual, since she knew that the sports festival would be quite a daunting time for her. There was not much point in adding in some extra exercise that would just hurt her muscles further, so the girl just went for a light jog in the early hours. Though she didn't use her phone too often, Relena couldn't ignore the alert that was given off by one Emi Tachibana.
She had never met the girl in person before, but her reputation preceded her. Emi seemed like a very sociable girl, which made sense since she was on the school newspaper. Even Alex had brought her name up before. So Relena was more than willing to hear what the newsgirl had to say.
She got dressed in her usual outfit of a white button down shirt and black skirt with tightly laced boots and headed out the door with her bokken carefully sheathed along her waist.
The place was already bustling with students and parents running around, laughing and generally having a good time. Relena kept to herself, bobbing and weaving through the crowd. There were many special events that were up for sign up, but only one had piqued her interest: the rescue event. She did not care to boast about her strength for the enjoyment of others. After all, it wasn't the reason she became a hero.
Relena wanted to save people. So it only made sense to sign up for the event which helped improve her capabilities in the matter. She continued to make her way through the main alley of the festival until she arrived at the predetermined destination. Upon stepping through the door, she had noticed that she was quite late. Much to her chagrin...
She looked from face to face, not particularly recognizing anyone, but she had seen Emi's face before. It was from the time she uploaded the video response during the news building takeover. So Relena approached the girl and gave a bow in their general direction.
"Good day to you all. I'm Relena Tsuruya from class 1-A. I'm unsure what this is all about, but I'm sure there is a good reason?"

Post by Takumi Fujimoto on Feb 3, 2019 4:01:15 GMT -4
So the Sports Festival was finally here and Yuuei had an atmosphere that felt even more Plus Ultra than the standard level that Takumi felt when he had first arrived at the school. Everywhere he went, even the empty hallways when he initially left his room, had this buzzing energy that just permeated the air and filled himself, and presumably everyone else, up with excitement like some strange osmosis of getting psyched. Takumi wasn't someone to sleep in and usually had no issues waking up at a normal hour, but this morning had his eyes popping open and his body practically jumping itself out of bed before his mind could decide to get up. Since arriving at Yuuei a couple of days ago, Takumi still hadn't really taken the time to go out and meet people or make any new friends; the only person that the boy had met so far was a girl whom accidentally yanked him out of a search for food and literally pulled him to the ground. With everyone congregating around a single area for a massive blowout of fun, and with himself participating in one of the events which would surely require some level of teamwork, Takumi felt it deep in his soul that he would come back to his room later that night with several newly formed friendships just waiting to grow over his future spent at the academy.
Hopping out of bed, Takumi knew that as excited as he was to get out there and throw himself into the Yuuei life, he still needed to take care of himself and his hygiene; getting cleaned up and making himself presentable would have to come first before going out and mingling with his future friends. Takumi wouldn't need too much time getting ready for his day, about twenty minutes to shower and wash his hair and then another ten minutes brushing his teeth and getting dressed. With the athletic nature of this whole event, among some other plans that were being formed, Takumi decided to keep his clothing light and loose with a light blue Yuuei tee shirt and a black track suit, leaving the jacket unzipped. The only other thing that Takumi would take care off before putting on his sneakers and heading out would be to make himself a proper cup of coffee in the kitchen of the common areas, using his own grinder and french press that he brought from home along with a hefty reserve of coffee beans from his family's shop.
Properly cleaned, dressed, and caffeinated, Takumi ventured out of the dormitory and onto the campus with a bright smile and a bolstered sense of confidence that held no resemblance to the confused timidity that he showed when he tried to find the cafeteria on his own after unpacking his things the other day. He still didn't have the best sense of direction when it came to navigating the Yuuei campus, or a decent sense of direction in general, but everyone and their grandmother's all trying to be at one place definitely helped Takumi find where he needed to go very easily. His own event, the Rescue and Operations course, wouldn't be taking place for quite some time which gave the boy lots to wander around and explore the area and the people surrounding him.
The main alley was filled with people and tons of different booths to check out, it was almost like a big cultural festival held by a small town all contained within a school campus. Many of the booths were actually being run by Yuuei students whom were either trying to help out with refreshments or selling merchandise to people, but some were also being run as a means to recruit other students to various clubs. There were quite a few sports clubs being advertised and even things like art clubs and cooking clubs that Takumi passed by. There was just so much to offer and experience that Takumi could hardly believe it!
There was one other activity that Takumi had on the docket for his day, and compared to his alley wandering with a stupor of amazement, this one seemed guaranteed to let him easily interact with people in a more controlled environment that could facilitate actual conversation and connection. Takumi had yet to type an actual word and enter it into that online chat room that all the Yuuei kids used, but he did open it up and peek through it from time to time as sort of a "grape-vine" for information. He wasn't really sure how to just start speaking up and introduce himself on a faceless medium like that, but thanks to the chatroom and the initiative of another student, a small get together of kids participating in the Rescue event was established and being invited filled Takumi with elation. He was finally going to be able to meet up with a whole bunch of students, some of whom were probably in 1-B like himself, and he could actually start making friends while also hopefully learning something about being a hero.
By the time Takumi showed up at the location decided by a certain "Emi Tachibana," it appeared that things were getting started but he wasn't necessarily late. There were already plenty of people present already and they were in the process of introducing themselves. Strolling in during the greetings, Takumi tried to pay attention to everyone speaking and took note of their names. One of them was the VP of Support Studies, another boy simply gave his name and mentioning a lack of ties with a verbal shrug, and then a girl who started off with a yawn before wishing everyone a good morning.
M-Morning? Isn't it... Takumi questioned the time of day to himself with the sleepy girl spoke out mentioning the morning before asking why she was there. He tried to discretely check his phone for the time to make sure it was closer to the end of the day and dispel and momentary confusion.
Next up was another girl appearing to be very quiet and reserved as she scribbled something down for a moment, lifting it up to reveal an introduction of her own to everyone else. The initial look of confusion and curiosity on Takumi's face grew into a more focused furrow of just trying to read the words written by Chikako. After she lowered the book, Chikako quickly expressed what Takumi interpreted as slight panic and embarrassment as she went right back to writing down more and revealed the next set of words to everyone.
Deaf? Takumi's head tilted like a curious puppy as he processed what she had written down. He tried to wonder how being a deaf hero worked, especially with a focus on rescuing people because not being able to hear someone calling out for help might be a big issue. After a couple of seconds, the thought simply dissipated in Takumi's mind when the idea of all the other crazy things that might seem difficult or impossible deaf people had already been done, or any type of achievement made by someone overcoming a handicap. On top of that, Chikako might have a quirk that was well suited to being a hero even if she was deaf. His mind then jumped to a mini panic, wondering about if he should learn how to sign or how long and difficult that might be, despite the method of writing in her book for communication being explicitly mentioned just seconds earlier.
After the notebook introduction was another girl with a rather polite and formal demeanor, a girl from 1-A starting off with a respectful bow, declaring her name to be Relena Tsuruya, and then asking for the reason behind this gathering. Takumi hadn't really put much thought into any of that and was really just here to meet everyone, regardless of the actual reason Emi had in mind. That being said, whatever reason mentioned would definitely help provide some insight to what kind of person she was.
Shimizu, Momonji, Mozuku, Chikako, and Relena... That must make one of them Emi... After running his brain through the hurdles of each name presented, Takumi nodded along to the repitions in his mind to commit them to memory and then looked over at Emi and Arisu, trying to figure out which one was the mastermind behind this shindig. It would only last a brief second, with Takumi in a semi-dazed state that one might be able to recognize as someone lost in thought before his eyes lit up again.
Oh! I'm Takumi Fujimoto! I just transferred to Yuuei a few days ago. Takumi began with a bow as he expressed his excitement, lifting himself back up to make eye contact and shift his gaze like a panoramic camera to make eye contact with everyone in front of him while he introduced himself and explained his situation. "I haven't said anything in the online chat, but I saw an invite for this from Emi so I wanted join you all. I don't really know much about Yuuei in general, but I'm looking forward to getting to know you all, or at the very least doing well in our event. Takumi's face widened up into a bright smile as he told everyone that he was excited to work with them in the rescue course and hopefully get to befriend them, even if he didn't necessarily word it that way.
Takumi knew better than to let first impressions dictate his perception of people, especially in a situation like this where everything was all excitement and energy, but so far all of the people in this meeting seemed nice at the very least. He had a good feeling for whatever was next to come.

I see you through the flood See you through the fire See you through the storms-a-raging
❧ When Yoru saw the message in the chat about the rescue event meeting, his first reaction was to roll his eyes. The second was a grin, and the third was to send a text to his best friends asking for his whereabouts. The answer came rather quickly, and he was glad he didn’t have to track Ryuusei back to his home – he was apparently on school grounds as well.
He was already through his routine obstacle course run for the day, and had showered, ready for the rest of it to come. Pulling on a lose set of black pants and a white and orange colored hoodie, caring little for the February weather, he set out to search for the vice president in question. As soon as he set his sight on Ryuusei and greeted him in his usual way, he grabbed him by the shoulder.
“We are going to a meeting with the rescue event guys. You can’t say no.” And with that, he steered his poor classmate toward the place Emi Tachibana specified in her invitation. Not that Ryuu would ever say no. He was a kind of wallflower that needed a little push in socializing, and after that initial push, he was actually a rather pleasant presence to have in gatherings. That, or Yoru largely preferred his presence as a default, he didn’t know yet. Going to this meeting without making sure his best friend was coming was out of the question, so before anything else, he decided to get a hold of him.
“I dunno what’s the point of the meeting, but they think it’s important, so I guess that is fine. Beats me.” But considering he was insistent on going, Ryuu was at least able to easily see through his words. Although he didn’t agree that a meeting like this will be beneficial for the rescue challenge, as they won’t be able to remember all of their quirks and personal assets, since the others considered this important, he wouldn’t go against their decision. Yoru was a pack animal, and if the majority thought it will do good, he wouldn’t be the one to say no to an invitation.
He was nearly distracted by the rest of the people and the festival going on, but only nearly. They arrived to the meeting point just in time to hear a few of the people introduce themselves. Some of them were actually familiar, and Yoru could recognize classmates in them, Arisu and Relena especially. The others were mostly new to him, both by face and by name, as he paid little attention to the people during the everyday school activity. He raised an eyebrow when he saw the tiny Momoko among them, but he couldn’t give voice to questions as the others were still talking. He missed some of the names, but he wouldn’t remember half of them by the end anyway, probably. Quirks were a much better indicator to commit to memory, so what was the point.
“Yo!” He waved when walking closer to the gathering, barely caring if he was interrupting someone that wanted to talk. Orange eyes scanned curiously through the people gathered, but his scowl was as unfriendly as ever. “So you guys really ended up doing this meeting, huh. I’m Yoruhi from 1-A.” Then he pointed to the slightly taller blonde boy standing near him, the one he dragged all the way here from whatever more important task he was doing. “And this bored-looking guy is---“

Dreams breathe life into men. The stars... I'll reach them.
It had been a long day for Ryuusei Igarashi... and it was only the first one of the many that Yuuei had decided to dedicate to the very first Sports Festival of the school. Getting to talk to Elise early in the morning, showing the academy grounds to Gregory and Julia - students from the Valiant Institute - and meeting Amanda, the french girl out of Germany. It was probably the most occupied the young japanese male had been in a single day since his recovery. However, there was still more to do: this time, something for himself.
With all the focus on the lots, food tents or the stalls set up by the different schools participating in the festivities, the indoor gym of the Highschool was completely empty. It made sense: even the hardworking students that wanted to focus 100% on the final day were probably training in the facilities that were constructed especially with the preparation for the events in mind.
The all gymnasium for himself, Ryuusei Igarashi decided to use the sauna. Inside the high-temperature room, the blonde teen had only a towel around his waist. If there was anyone else there, it would easy to see the stories that the body of the sixteen year old already told: the scattered burnt marks on his right arm and leg, the small incision scar on his left ankle, the two ribs which deformation was still slightly visible and the most recent, an enourmous and ugly scar that crossed all the way through the middle of his now well-defined abdominal muscles. No one at that age should have such a body, skin and bones that should've belong to a war veteran and not to a fragile, timid and yet cold highschool student.
Sweating and standing on his own two feet, Ryuusei was shadow-boxing in the middle of the sauna. He knew that he needed to rest his body after all the damage he had already been through in this first-year - reason why he only signed-up for the Rescue Event - but he couldn't allow to be left behind. If he couldn't spar with anyone for the time being, he would spar against the mental vision of his worst enemy: himself. Punches, kicks, feints and other movements thrown at the best of his capacity and strenght cutting through the hot desert-like air that made every single pore of his body produce drops and drops of sweat. Ryuusei did not track the amount of time in which he remained doing this, but he knew when it had been enough.
He stepped out of the gym after a fresh shower. His school uniform stuffed inside his black backpack, Ryuusei was wearing what he had already wore for some parts of the day: a black bandana, a silver earring with a dangling chain, his usual necklace, an oversized black hoodie under an army green bomber jacket, regular denim jeans and black boots. The day was now drawing to a close and, so, Ryuusei had the intent of heading back home after such a tiring day.
However, just after taking a few steps outside the gym door, his intentions were about to be shattered - but in a good way, due to the person that would shtter them. Yoruhi was approaching Ryuusei in his usual style. He looked happy and that made Ryuu happier, which even made him let out an odd smile once his eyes identified his best friend.
Yo. How are y-
Before being able to greet the other boy back, Ryuusei was already being basically dragged by his shoulder. The explanation provided by Yoru was short and explicit - just like the famle Quirker himself - but it still left Ryuusei with lots of questions has he willingly let his body be stirred in the way that his classmate desired.
O-Okay, I'm not saying no, but... Why? he decided to ask, letting other questions in his mind for later.
And of course that Yoru didn't really know why the meeting was arranged, he had just decided that they were going. How Ryuusei both hated and envied that spontinuity. By the months they had already spent together, he was sure that Yoruhi himself didn't really think that such a meeting would help that much - for all of Yoru's "just do it" attitude, he wasn't dumb. And for the seconds that had already passed since Ryuusei knew of this meeting he had already figured out plenty of ways about why it shouldn't happen. But of course that, as Ryuusei voiced:
You're too good for this world, he said, pointing too the obvious fact that Yoruhi had most likely decided to go just to keep everyone's morale high. Not that he would ever admit that, of course.
After some time of continuing to be dragged and pushed across the school and throwing one or two complaints about it - despite offering no resistance at all - both Ryuusei and Yoruhi arrived at the area of the meeting where many people were already gathered. Hands on his pockets, Ryuu took an uniterest look around. A cute pinked haired girl, a white-haired dude that was, like him, Vice-President of a class, the fellow 1-A classmate Relena and some more people that he had never seen.
This will be painful..., Ryuusei thought of the coming interaction with everyone.
Yoruhi introduced himself first, giving then the lead for Ryuusei to do the same by refering to him as the boring looking guy. An accurate description, even if hard to admit. He side-eyed his best friend for some seconds before taking the cue to, with his dettached voice, present himself to the others in the shortest manner possible.
Ryuusei Igarashi. Also 1-A.
He made a small bow. It could look that he didn't really want to be there - which was true - but Ryuusei still had the manners that he acquired during his life upbringing in a rich and traditional household.
And now the meeting was about to start.

If Arisu hadn’t shown her face, Emi would have had words for her. After all, the girl was the only one she knew to be on her wavelength, which meant they both understood the importance of such a meeting. It wasn’t too surprising that the girl had rushed over with that in mind, but it didn’t stop a snicker from escaping the girl. “Nice get-up, Arisu-chan. Though I’ve gotta ask… Why is the uniform orange? We wear navy, red, white, grey, green…” None of which was as eye-catching as orange, mind you. Maybe that was the point. “Ah well. It’s too late to make a change now. Don’t worry about the outfit. You can be our moral support if things go wrong.” She put on a cheeky smirk, but it wouldn’t last. Arisu had gone straight for a critical hit!
By necessity, Emi was thick-skinned. Putting her work into the world invited criticism, to the point that she expected it with every new video. A compliment on anything remotely related to her job was so foreign that it took a second for them to register, and then another for her to wonder why she wasn’t smiling anymore. She looked as if Arisu had grown a third eye, which had also somehow insulted her mother and her fashion sense. Three seconds too late – once she’d lowered her eyebrows to a reasonable height – she realised why that was such a shock. Two, three… almost four months, she’d been enrolled at UA, and that moment was the second time she’d heard anybody give her personality some kind words, face to face. Not just an off-hand comment, either. She just kept going! Emi’s defences weren’t prepared for such a fierce surprise attack; she could steel her face, but her cheeks were slowly but slowly betraying her, growing rosier as she spoke.
“Er. Well. Stuff like this takes practice, you know. You’ve just gotta-“ She squinted her eyes shut, cutting herself off before she made more of a fool of herself. Damnit. So much for a commanding presence. Half a deep breath helped her to compose herself, though it did nothing for her glowing cheeks. “Consider this a taster lesson, for in and outside of hero work. Confidence is half the battle. Doesn’t matter if you actually feel like you know what you’re doing – not looking the part is just asking for trouble. Your enemies will know you’re weak, if not in power, then in spirit. How can you ask the people you’re helping to have faith in you if you don’t look like you have faith in yourself? That goes for your teammates and civilians. If you’ve got that, and a reputation for it, you’ll go far.” The smile reappeared. “And failing that, just be really, really loud. That way they can’t ignore you.” A wink completed the look. Or, it would have, if she wasn’t blushing.
She could have gone on (really, when couldn’t she run her mouth?), but more and more students were showing their faces. Haruto was nearing – a familiar face from Alex’s rescue courses, and one that had proven his worth. She waved to him as she wrapped up: “Thanks, though. It… means a lot to hear that from somebody that isn’t me. You’ll feed my ego another time, right?” Without missing a beat (that Arisu could use to decline), she beckoned the newcomers closer.
A pair of strangers followed after Snowhead, but that didn’t make her totally clueless. She drew a complete blank on the boy. Kinda cute. No obvious mutations, or indication of skill. He sounded tired, or hesitant, or bored already. Hopefully he had more to show them than a lack of effort – but then, he’d put in enough to show up. The dwarf that followed was no stranger to her; even if they’d never met in person before, there weren’t many students that were smaller than her phone. “That’s a good question, actually. I thought you were injured. Or at least, too injured to help with my costume.” A raised eyebrow and narrowed eyes gave Momoko a look halfway between suspicion and confusion, not helped by her having to look down at the girl. Whatever, she thought – there were too many people to greet for her to interrogate Momoko. Chikako, for example, who continued to make Emi question how such a frail child was surviving in a hero school. UA was just full of surprises. She waved to her and Momonji, and again once four more new faces had introduced themselves. Either they had a lot of newbies, or Emi hadn’t been nearly as outgoing as she’d thought. Still, they all seemed friendly, and were taking the festival seriously enough to show up, and that was the most important part.
Thankfully, her face was back to a regular colour, allowing her to stand as a confident leader once more. “Of course the meeting happened. I commit to my ideas.” She gestured for the group to come closer together. Her voice would only carry so far before she stopped sounding relaxed, especially with the festival preparation continuing around them. “Lots of new faces to me, but we should be able to fix that soon. First things first – thanks for coming, guys. I know it’s short notice, and I was pretty vague about the meeting, but that was part of the point. Kinda surprised so many of you turned up with that in mind, but hey, I won’t complain.” She reached into her bag and whipped out her phone. Her thumbs tapped away for a few seconds, but her eyes shifted from face to face, reading the crowd and its mood.
“We’ve got a big day coming up. You against the world – or, UA against a bunch of other schools. A bit of both, really. Most of you don’t know me that well, or at all, so I’ll make it clear. I like winning. No surprise there, right? Most people do. But I’m gunning for the gold. Anything my face or name goes on has to have 110% put into it, so you better expect the best.” A bold and big-headed statement. That was what she hoped to put in their minds, to add weight to what came next.
“I’m telling you this so you don’t just blow it off when I tell you that the best way for any of us to win is to be here and hash things out.”
“The other schools? Even if their budget is anywhere near as insane as UA’s, don’t think for a second that they’ve sent anything less than their best students to represent them. We, on the other hand, have-“ Absolute newbies. Questionable choices. Potential dead weight. “-a mixed bag. No restrictions, really. Those foreign students, I’d bet money that most of them know each other. Train together. Know their strengths and weaknesses. I don’t think anybody here can say the same about all the people around you. Know what that means? When we get onto the field, and you’re facing a task that you or your team can’t handle, you won’t know who to go to to get that job done. They will, and they’re going to be all the better for it. Let’s fix that.”
It wouldn’t be enough to sway them all, and she knew it. Hell, she was counting on one of them to disagree, to show the rest of them exactly why they needed to stick together. “So. One at a time. Your hero name, quirk, two good reasons why I’d want you on my team, and one rescue scenario you’d shine in.” With a final tap of the phone, she offered the iFruit to Chikako. Speech-to-text was a beautiful thing, acting as her virtual scribe.

Dreams breathe life into men. The stars... I'll reach them.
It was the short girl with pink hair that Ryuusei had identified as being "cute" that took the helm of the meeting. It looked like she had been the one to ask for everyone who had signed up for the Rescue Event of the Festival to meet there. Since Ryuusei never used the U.A. Chat he did not know this but, looking more carefully, he recognized her from somewhere else. Emi, wasn't it? he thought to himself, associating the girl that had a cellphone on her hands as one of the members of the News Club of Yuuei. Ryuusei's knowledge of the girl was limited to that, but it looked like was about to learn about who she was... even if he was to dislike having that knowledge. The girl decided to start by saying how much she liked winning. How she always put more than 100% into the things she did. The Vice-President of Class 1-A could understand the sentiment, even if he was slightly different: more than liking to win, Ryuusei didn't like to lose. For him, that was a big diffrence. A person who is obsessive with victory might lose focus of the reality surrounding her and Ryuusei learnt this the hard way. However, not liking to lose meant that someone is more focused on being the best that they possibly can be, which leads to a superior interest in supassing themselves rather than achieving any first place or trophy. That's how Ryuu saw it, anyway. The thing that bothered him the most was, however, how Emi had put things in terms of "us vs them". It seemed like... rather unheroic. Ryuusei himself couldn't even believe that he was the one thinking about that in those terms. But maybe it was just a poor choice of words, right? Ryuu kept hearing, in silence. “The other schools? Even if their budget is anywhere near as insane as UA’s, don’t think for a second that they’ve sent anything less than their best students to represent them. We, on the other hand, have--a mixed bag." Ryuusei Igarashi zoned out for a bit after hearing that sentence. A mixed bag... Is she... Is she implying what I think she is?! he thought, not even hearing the rest of the words she spoke. So, the cute girl was actually pretty self-centered and was refering to the ones present at the meeting - meeting that, keep in mind, she asked for - as a "mixed bag" in terms of quality? Great, just what he needed to end the day off. He looked at Yoru, a look that said: "Being here is your fault, don't forget it". His best friend would surely understand this mental connection. Ryuusei tried to relax. Maybe... maybe she din't meant to sound so serious. Perhaps a joke? Ryuusei also was bad at delivering a joke, so that was probably it. He decided to giver a third chance and began listening again. “So. One at a time. Your hero name, quirk, two good reasons why I’d want you on my team, and one rescue scenario you’d shine in.”Wait, are you serious? Ryuusei spoke out, almost unintentionally and louder than when he introduced himself. It couldn't be real, could it? Everyone should say why they were deserving of her praise? Was this a meeting of future heroes or a selection of potential prom candidates? Looking at her face, Emi expression didn't appear to change afte she was done speaking. Wow, you actually are being serious... - he paused, a confused expression on his face - So you really think that the focus should be in outshining other rescuers? he asked, the "other rescuers" meaning the students from the foreign schools. Ryuusei turned his back to everyone and walked a few steps, a clear indication that he was forcing himself to remain silent. But he couldn't quite do it, so he turned around one more time. We don't know what format the event will have. We don't know if our school will be divided into sub-groups, if those sub-groups will also be competing with each other or even if the scores will be individual or group based. Besides, if we follow your line of thinking, giving away information might actually be a potential personal disadvantage. Not to say that we should all be prepared to improvise, since once we graduate it's most likely that we will not know the skills of every hero helping in the disaster area assigned to us.It was rare to see Ryuusei Igarashi be so outspoken or passionate about the whole "hero" thing, but the whole situation just sounded fairly ridiculous to him. Adding to an already eventful day, him being tired and not wanting to be there it was just a perfect explosion. He took a big breath before finishing, trying to regain his usual compusure. And even if you're right, that just isn't the way to go about it.It probably sounded rude as hell - specially taking into account Ryuusei's cold voice - but it just came to him naturally. Now he really didn't want to be there. --- arisu --- - - -
"I- well, I wasn't the one who picked out the colors. I think we went with orange because it compliments the navy our other outfits sport and makes the logo pop?" That was the best answer Arisu had on the topic of outfits, sadly, as the sheer truth of it was that she hadn't been part of the fashion committee for that. Conversation continued after that, though, with a lot of insights into how Emi managed her persona, and how doing so helped manage your own thoughts behind it. Or was she trying to explain that managing the thoughts came first and the outward control stemmed from that? She wasn't entirely sure, but that was probably because she was overthinking it- everything Emi said had made sense, it just scrambled in Arisu's head when she tried to process it, caught in barbed tangles of anxiety and doubt.
The little quip about feeding Emi's ego later left Arisu laughing sincerely, cheeks warmed to know she'd made an impact by supporting and complimenting her classmate. But then the others were upon them! Momoko was familiar, and even if the small girl considered their acquaintance unfortunate, Arisu gave her a pleasant, hopefully encouraging wave all the same. She didn't hold grudges over competition, and having shared a field on opposite sides was a point of positive reference, not negative, so far as she was concerned. Haruto wasn't familiar, but was the Support Vice President! "Oh! You're the Class VP for Farrah and Hye-Rin, then! It's a pleasure to meet you, Haruto-san." Sure, he'd been introducing himself to Emi, but it'd save time to chirp in herself. Momonji didn't seem super into it, and Chikako immediately distinguished herself with her unique hearing situation. Arisu immediately reoriented herself to face the girl head on- lots of deaf folk could read lips, and she wanted to be as easily understandable as possible, to take weight off Chikako's shoulders when it came to communicating. Takumi introduced himself with a pleasantly forward manner, followed by a couple of her 1-A classmates, both of whom got a welcoming wave as well, and then Emi leapt into her introductory statement.
Much of what she said was what she and their de facto group leader had discussed over the class chat- they were way behind the eightball simply by virtue of how open their signups were and how little difficulty their school had to go to in the process of getting them on the field. It meant that a lot of students could sign up for an event they weren't super interested in, and pulling those most likely to pull their weight together beforehand honestly was an excellent way to gauge everyone's interest. While she hadn't been declared anything of the sort, by virtue of agreeing with the more outspoken Emi, Arisu stood beside her and just a tad behind, nodding along to add visual support of the girl's points as she made them.
Once it was time to do introductions, Arisu waited until she could see that not only did Chikako have Emi's iFruit in hand, but the program she intended to use to make this all easier was loaded and the girl was ready. Once she knew that, she started speaking. "I'm Arisu Disukodo. My hero name is Firewall- for obvious reasons," she explained, holding up a palm and flexing the glands in her arm to send ribbons of dark flame coiling down her arm to form a golf ball sized mass of heatless, lightless blackfire over her palm. It didn't last long before she released the flames and let them vanish. "-and my quirk's called Antipyre. It's not flame, it's something else, something I can control, and it knocks people out cold, smothers energy sources, and crumbles materials with enough exposure."
"As for why you want me here, two excellent reasons are my ability to remedy things like uncontrolled fires, downed power lines, and debris without a lot of the collateral dangers that most emitters have to deal with. I can't set anything on fire and I can use it in close proximity to civilians without endangering their lives or wellbeing. Plus I have a very tactical mind, and know how valuable information, cooperation, and communication are to the success of any team."
"As for specific scenarios I'd excel in? I already cheated and named three," Arisu openly admitted with a grin, "-but fires, specifically, are really easy for me to fight safely."
Ryuusei had a lot to say about how he viewed the situation, but since she was already speaking up, she decided to address that directly. "We do actually know a lot about the format we're dealing with, Ryuusei-san. We know the teams are being formed from each school. We know that there are 4 specific disasters being recreated for us to address. We know that we're going to be graded on both accuracy of our response, and on how quickly and effectively we implement that response. While you're not wrong that in the field we might not always know who we're working with, we do know who we're working with here, and it'd be absolutely silly to refuse to learn about each other in advance to make our effectiveness on the field more potent. There's no way that a new squad of police officers wouldn't meet up and introduce themselves before going into the field- we have the chance to share and learn about each other, and that's what we're doing. This isn't a tryout. You're already on the team, or you wouldn't have gotten contacted. What Emi is asking you to do is tell us about what your special talents are so we at least have a point of reference if something you could handle like a snap comes up."
Arisu looked around at the other students one at a time- even little Momoko- and settled back on Ryuusei, just because he'd been the one to voice his concern. "I'm not saying your skepticism doesn't have a place here. To be blunt, that kind of incisive critical thinking will be super helpful in finding the hidden pitfalls woven into the situations we're sure to face. I know it feels kind of startling to have so much information demanded of you, but it's the fastest and most efficient way to share that information with everyone else. If you don't want to share, you don't have to, but we're trying to get a really good feel for the skills, talents, and quirks we can rely on when it comes time to show everyone what makes UA special- and if you don't trust us enough to be willing to so much as share a little information about yourself, you're not going to be our go-to when it comes time for competition, which means you're going to have less of a chance to shine and show your true potential. Do you think you'd be willing to at least share your quirk and what sort of rescue scenario you think you'd be most suited to handle, Ryuusei-san?"

Dreams breathe life into men. The stars... I'll reach them.
Surprisingly, the first to respond to Ryuusei's words of frustration - and, one could say, slight anger - wasn't Emi, the one to whom the 1-A boy was speaking more directly to. In her place, another girl rose to the occasion, a girl that had responded and agreed with Emi's request just like a well-trained soldier replies to his superiors. The female had introduced herself as Disukodo Arisu, an emitter capable of producing a flame-like energy, black and blue in color (as she didn't take any time to show off), that had multiple uses. She was even shorter than Emi - which made her look very tiny in comparison with Ryuusei - and, by the sound of her voice, also appeared to be younger than him. This being the first time that the blonde teenager saw her, he had no idea for how long she was studying at Yuuei or to which class she belonged to. Actually, now that he was looking well at her... Yeah, that dark hair with a blue undertone was familiar, just like the girl that sat at the front of the row next to the one Ryuusei's seat was. The youngest of the Igarashi family had absolutely no recollection of her: he was usually pretty ahead of their theorical classes and, because of that, just completly zoned out during their duration; as for the practical ones he usually just really cared about how Yoruhi, Rinkusu and Jasmine were doing, not really looking at anyone else. Adding to this the fact that he didn't like to socialize that much and his personality and the bizarreness of him not recognizing the small girl became plausible. However, thinking hard about it, he did remember that hair and seeing the basic information about her in some documents that the class President and Vice-president handle from time to time. This was, then, the first time that Ryuusei and Arisu talked to each other. What a fun way to have a first conversation. The 1-A classmate started by pointing out why Ryuusei's points were wrong. Firstly because details about how the Event would be set-up and judged were public - something Ryuu already knew, even if he chose to not pay that much attention to it. Secondly because it was dumb to not take advantage of this knowledge to learn about everyone else in order to try and gain some type of advantage. Then, after a little silence in which the girl look at everyone else - a silence that Ryuusei respected -, she began talking again. Just like before, Ryuu dedicated his entire attention to her, his ears wide open. "(...) when it comes time to show everyone what makes UA special (...)" "(...) you're not going to be our go-to when it comes time for competition(...)" "(...) less of a chance to shine and show your true potential (...)"Us. Us. Us. Competition. Me. Me. Me. Fighting. Shining. Shining. Shining, the words kept on echoing and echoing on Ryuusei's head. They were all the same. Just like all the Heroes that are what they are because of fame. Just like the Villains that acted just to be known. Just like how society was shaping everyone else. They were all the same: wanting to show why they were the best, why they have talent, why they must be chosen, why them and their beloved Yuuei was so much better than everyone else. This meeting wasn't made out of excitement, out of joy, out of noble reasons: it was a reflection of ego, of a desire to outsmart others and make them look bad, of needing to make themselves look better. The Rescue Event was an auction house and they were willing to be the pigs meant to be sold, doing what needed to be done in order to increase their value. "If you don't trust us enough to be willing to so much as share a little information about yourself, you're not going to be our go-to (...)"?! Why the hell would someone trust a group of people that are more interested in objectifying the others in terms of Quirks and qualities rather than getting to know their personality, hobbies, tastes and dreams? Saying their "Hero Names"? For them such things were nothing more than a bunch of letters thrown together and void of any meaning. At this point, Ryuusei Igarashi was looking at the ground. His left hand formed a fist, his fingers making hard pressure against the palm of the hand. The image of Tanaka's lifeless body in his arms came to mind. How Ryuusei tried to bringing back while knowing such thing was impossible. All that blood... Not only Tanaka's, but also the one Ryuu had created by himself... And these future heroes were telling everyone else what they were good at, what they would excel at, why they should be chosen: it was all presumption - they knew nothing about that. His turned blank eyes and face regain colour and expression. He exhaled and opened his hand, allowing his fingers to relax. HE raised his head and, looking at Arisu, began talking. A sorrowful smile on his face. Let's see where that knowledge gets you all during the event then, he simply said, pausing for some seconds after. He could've talked about how, despite teams being formed from each school, that they did not know for sure if then each school will have more teams instead of just one big one. That, in the case of being multiple teams representing each school, the event could be structured to incentivize each team to act individually, even if that means not helping or going against students from the same school. That the point of this being what school would be ranked the highest didn't necessarily mean that everyone in that meeting would have to work together, for the allocation of points could be given individually or per sub-team instead of being given for the school or entire team as a whole. There could even be scenarios in which working with others schools could be needed and advantageous, how four disasters could easily be multiplied depending on what happens and that there might be hidden details that they don't even dream about. It didn't matter. When the day came both Ryuusei and everyone else would find that out, no matter who was right or wrong. He concluded: Anyway, I'm not really suited to handle any rescue scenario. Saving people isn't something I'm good at, he finished, thinking about his sister, about Rinkusu, about Tanaka. Ryuusei then turned to Yoruhi. Hands in pockets, he directed his next words to his best friend. I think that I'm going home now. You don't mind, do you?Notes: Ryuu got triggered, yikes.Words: 1,124.Tags: Emi Ryoko Tachibana @eris Shimizu Haruto Momonji Yamada Mozuku Momoko Chikako Safaia Relena Tsuruya Takumi Fujimoto Yoruhi Honookaen

Post by Takumi Fujimoto on Feb 5, 2019 6:41:53 GMT -4
Takumi finished his initial greeting and introduction when it was his turn and tried to welcome everyone in the group into his acquaintance with a warm and bright smile. After the boy had spoken his short piece, two more boys came along and introduced themselves, almost in tandem like best friends whom had rehearsed dual introductions or possibly done this before. The first boy to speak up after Takumi, named Yoruhi, seemed not only uninterested in attending this meeting, but visibly annoyed and upset, going so far as to make a snide remark about the meeting even taking place at all before handing off the introductory baton to his friend. His friend simply stated his name, Ryuusei Igarashi, and mentioned that he was in class 1-A with Yoruhi before ending it with a courtesy bow that did not seem aligned with his detached tone and apathetic demeanor at all.
Takumi was never one to put much stock into first impressions, especially considering the fact that he could never really know what someone's personal circumstances outside any given situation were nor could he have special knowledge of how their respective days were going up until this point without asking first, but he would feel a small pit of worry sitting in his stomach after witnessing how both of them introduced themselves. He wouldn't break his friendly smile at the display, instead his previously bright smile fading into a more subtle expression of happiness while the meeting progressed.
Eventually one of the girls that Takumi had considered likely to be Emi through the process of elimination had made it abundantly clear when she assumed control of the meeting a thanked those in attendance for coming. She voiced her surprise at an evidently high number of students showing up, and then broke her eyes away from the group for a brief moment to fiddle with her phone, only to come back up and properly face everyone again. She spoke out again, this time jumping right into the subject of the sports festival and the rescue course that they would all be participating in with each other, immediately framing the event in an "us vs them" light, all propped up by a self-admitted craving for victory and a demand for everyone's best effort going forward.
Man, she's basically the opposite of those guys... Takumi could feel a tiny bead of sweat forming on the back of his neck, just where his hairline ended, and beginning to roll down towards his back. There already seemed to be a clash of personalities in the making, and the boy could already foresee a conflict brewing before his eyes. On the bright side, this Emi girl was showing herself to be a no nonsense type of person that preferred to be upfront with anybody she had a problem with, and while seeing that style of conflict resolution usually felt the worst to see unfold initially Takumi knew that more often than not it was the type of attitude that could deal with problems quickly and help pave the way for smoother interactions going beyond.
After establishing the "us vs them" mentality of her perspective on the rescue course, Emi went on to paint a picture of the other schools as being highly prepared, if not borderline elite. It was a fair approach when it came to these things, anybody competing in anything should always expect the best out of their opponents and prepare accordingly, but her next point filled Takumi with as much unease as the initial introductions of Yoruhi and Ryuusei. All of the students that gathered her today, at Emi's request, were a "mixed bag," a term that felt like a poorly veiled attempt at being nice when it came to declaring an unfavorably judgement of them all. She went on to speak about how the kids from the other schools had likely built up functional relationships that allowed teamwork and coordination between them to shine and create a type of synergy that would exceed the sum of their parts, and it was definitely true that the people here today didn't have such a foundation of synergy established, but even with that followup explanation Takumi still didn't feel too hot. Nevertheless, he would maintain a friendly expression and nod along, not wanting to create any waves or ruffle any feathers.
Even with Takumi trying to lay low and not stir the pot, it seemed that other students took Emi's words to heart just like he did, if not worse with more offense inferred. Ryuusei quickly piped up in an offended disbelief once Emi asked for everyone to basically advertise themselves to her like commodities or tools to be appraised and used for her goals. Takumi didn't quite take the girl's words in that manner, but it was a (mis)understanding that wasn't crazy to imagine. Ryuusei quickly fired back against the idea of going into this event like it was a competition against the other students, clearly not a fan of wanting to focus on appearing better than the others for the sake of the audience. Takumi listened, now with an expression of concern and discomfort, as Ryuusei talked about not knowing how the event would actually be set up and the general logistics that were unknown before eventually stating that even if Emi was right, the way she was handling things was still wrong.
Takumi nervously pulled back into his own mind, his face developing more of a vacant fade behind the slight concern in his eyes and brows, a bad habit of his whenever he found himself in a social conflict. The discord between Ryuusei and Emi wasn't even all that big, just a few sentences of a spat that wasn't even a spat, but the atmosphere still held this tense energy that clashed with Takumi's need for social harmony. He understood Emi's words, for the most part, but still felt uneasy about the way she spoke about everything much like how Ryuusei apparently felt, even if he didn't have the outspoken nature to speak up at that moment. On the other hand, he could understand exactly where Ryuusei was coming from and why he was speaking against Emi, there was a conversational courage in him that Takumi lacked and envied, but just like the offended boy's view of Emi's words, there was a better way for him to go about it as well, at least as far as Takumi was concerned.
Luckily, another girl spoke up next and complied with Emi's request. Her name was Arisu Disukodo, and she was the other girl that Takumi deducted to possibly be Emi before the meeting really got going. She already had a hero name for herself, Firewall, and demonstrated a tiny sneak peak of her quirk by conjuring a strange, golf ball sized ember in her hands. It looked strange and crazy and beautiful and weird, and despite its appearance it wasn't actually fire at all. Arisu began to list the things she could do with it, although Takumi really couldn't wrap his mind around it at all. It was fire but not really? It could put out fires and also knock people out? And could crumble materials?
While Takumi felt his mind heating up trying to process details about this weird quirk, Arisu began to talk about herself in more detail, mentioning that she could use her quirk safely around people without harming them and that she also had a very tactical mind, among other things. The girl held herself with an air of confidence as she tried to humble-brag about her usefulness as a team member for the event, as well as mentioning that she was really good at putting out fires. After Arisu finished speaking about herself, she turned to Ryuusei and took the liberty of addressing some of his concerns. It seemed that the format of the rescue course was already outlined. The students would be grouped by school, and there would be a total of four different types of disasters which they would need to respond to. On top of that, she listed the more obvious details regarding how they would be judged, mostly on accuracy, quickness, and overall effectiveness of their responses.
After Arisu finished speaking to Ryuusei about his issues regarding the nature of this meeting and the upcoming event, the boy simply looked at her with a smile that did not seem sincere at all, and made a forebodingly passive aggressive comment that seemed more like a pained challenge against the girls' intentions. He then went on to declare that he didn't feel well suited to any types of rescue scenarios, going so far as to say that he wasn't good at saving people. Takumi heard this and tilted his head to the side while raising an eyebrow in confusion.
Not good at saving people? Isn't that why we're all here? Why sign up at all then? Takumi wouldn't verbalize his thoughts, but he felt conflicted after hearing Ryuusei's comments. Of course nobody here was necessarily good at saving people, that's why they came to Yuuei in the first place. This wasn't a place for professional heroes to hang out, this was a place for students hoping to one day become professional heroes to come and learn how to do it. Resigning oneself to a sense of hopelessness seemed counter intuitive to being a student at this academy in the first place. Once Ryuusei turned to Yoruhi and basically asked permission to go home, Takumi felt himself slump back nervously waiting for an answer.
After a few seconds, Takumi forced his deteriorating posture back into shape, lifting his shoulders and slightly puffing out his chest before speaking. Whether Yoruhi told Ryuusei to stay, go home, or nothing at all, Takumi would only let a few seconds pass before feeling a need to smooth out the situation and brush it aside.
Uhh, like I said before I'm Takumi, from class 1-B. I just moved here the other day, so I don't really know much about any of this stuff... Takumi paused for a second, looking down timidly and then awkwardly off to the side just slightly behind his shoulder as if looking for a familiar face before turning back to the group, his eyes shifting between the students but usually gravitating towards Emi's since she was running things. I know we're supposed to act confidently, even if we don't believe in ourselves, in order to keep everyone else's hopes up... but as long as this is the time to be honest I hope you don't mind...
Takumi awkwardly scratched the back of his neck while taking in a short breath, quickly glancing between the eyes of everyone present again before continuing with his own "advertisement" for being a member of the rescue team. I'm not really too good at anything yet, but I want to change that while I'm here... I know that doesn't help much for the Sports Festival, but it's the truth. I don't even have a hero name picked out or anything... Takumi lost the rest of that short breath, letting out an awkward chuckle while trying to make a joke of his inexperience in the form of his lack of a heroic moniker. My quirk isn't anything flashy or special, but I think it could be useful if I learned how to use it well and trained. I can shoot out this thick foam from these tiny nozzles underneath my finger nails; it's kinda like a can of whipped cream or a fire extinguisher. Takumi shot a quick glance at Arisu as he mentioned a fire extinguisher, remembering that putting out fires was one of her admitted strengths. I can't produce a ton of it, so I'm not sure that I could help put out really big fires, but I think it could be useful for smaller ones... OH YEAH! Also, if I eat or drink something... my body can kinda combine it with the foam before I spray it out, so like if I ate green paint then it would come out green, or like if I drank perfume then it would smell like it...
Takumi tried to put on a brave face and smiled again, looking at everyone with a shaky confidence while inside his heart was trembling with a desperate craving for someone to speak up or maybe try to cheer him up, but he would quickly remember one more part of Emi's questionnaire. Oh yeah! Totally forgot, two reasons why you would want me on your team... Uhhh, well, I'm pretty easy to get along with, like I won't try to cause problems for the team. I think it can be easy for someone on a team to have an ego and forget about the real goal, or get mad and ruin things out of spite, but I can promise I wouldn't do that, especially if there was someone in trouble that needed to be rescued.
Takumi would once again stand in front of everyone else nervously, completely oblivious to the fact that he only listed one reason why he could be a desirable teammate despite Emi demanding two, if that one reason could even be counted as one. What good was amiability and cooperation if it was coming from a person with no real skills to contribute towards the common goal?
