Post by Principal Kobayashi Touma on Dec 10, 2018 5:14:50 GMT -4
Winter was settling on Musutafu as U.A. High entered the month of December. The first year was getting closer and closer to its end, and the school was finally hitting its stride. A PR catastrophe for the army, it was exactly the contrary for the young school as its students proved themselves to be more than capable under fire. The was a renewed vote of confidence in the school, coming with higher budgets and more pros contacting the school, interested in shaping the heroes of tomorrow.
Some things never changed, though. P.E. was one of them.
4 times a week the students ran, pushed, pulled, climbed, swam and otherwise exercise under the command of the principal, whether it was sunny, windy, cloudy or snowy. Today, it was the latter: the first snowflakes were starting to fall, to thin to stick to the ground just yet, but enough to remind everyone that snow wasn’t gonna get them out of P.E. either.
The principal wore the same black suit he did in the summer, with a simple black overcoat over it, and dark brown leather gloves on his hands. It made him look very much like a hitman. A hitman waiting with a whistle around his neck for a crowd of students to put through hell once more.
As little as his appearance indicated, he was trying out a friendlier approach today. Recent events had led him to believe he should take notes from Tsutsuji-sensei a little. Translated in Kobayashi, it meant that today, he only made the students run a light course of ten laps, sprinting only on the fifth and the tenth one, followed by an easy regimen of fifty squats, fifty push-ups, fifty sit-ups and fifty chin-ups.
Well, comparatively easier. It was usually double that. As a warm-up.
He also went straight to what was now more or less informally referred to as quirkball around the school. It was probably the student’s favorite part of his class, probably because unlike the straight-up physical exercise he usually gave them, it was fun. Blowing his whistle, he commanded the students to assemble in front of him.
“Alright, time for the quirkball exercises now. We will play in teams of three against three today. For the new students, let me explain the rules quickly. We will be playing on a rectangular field, divided in two squares of twenty by twenty meters. The objective is to score by striking the ball into the opponent’s field. Strike it offside and the opponent takes a point instead. You are allowed to use your quirks freely inside of your area and offside, but you are not allowed to target anything inside the opponent’s area, whether it’s the ball or their players. The ball can be touched or otherwise redirected no more than thrice per side; a fourth consecutive hit by the same side results in a point for the other team.”
He marked a pause to let everything sink in and take possible questions. “As always, these rules do not always account for the variety of powers you guys display. I will be observing the matches and I might step in to rule against anti-play behavior, such as attempting to circumvent the three-hit rule to keep the ball out of play. And of course, some of your powers are of no use here. This is by design. There will be situations where you will be forced to rely on old-fashion wit and grit to get out of a situation, and I aim to prepare you for those the best I can.”
Despite his efforts, the low timbre of his voice and his monotone manner of speaking made him sound once more like a hitman. There was a long road ahead of him when it came to teaching people who weren’t soldiers. Baby steps, as they say, right? He cleared his throat. “Well, without further ado, let’s begin. Teams will be pre-arranged for today. I will call you in order.”
Names came and went. “Eisenberg-san, Hirotaka-san, Tachibana-san, you are playing Sakamoto-san, Wanizuka-san and Tsuruya-san. Third field from the left.”
Behind the principal was a series of identical fields, spaced enough so that every group could play with a comfortable amount of offside space. The point of the exercise was simple. By pitting the students against each other in a seemingly innocuous activity like this, Touma could get an idea for how they would handle into battle. Problem solving, critical thinking, cooperation, physical ability, creativity, reflexes, cool-headedness, tactical ability, awareness of the surroundings: under the guise of a simple, relaxing ball game, the Yueei school principal collected information and updated the files he kept on every student. These would be shared with all the teachers, such as to provide a base onto which to organize training exercises and personalized training.
The groups made, he would give them ten or so minutes on the field to get to know each other and strategize. With all the new transfer students, perhaps he was bound to see something interesting today.
---
(ooc: alright, so you have the rules of the game and everything! You guys get one turns of preparation before the game begins to introduce yourselves and your quirks. We'll establish a rough post order once everyone has posted, but it can be flexible to suit the game's needs, for example if you want to do a passing play. The important thing is that everyone posts once per round.
You'll notice that I tweaked the rules a little compared to the first post and that we’re playing 3v3 instead to accommodate the distribution. We're going for a planned 5 rounds of game after the preparation, so 6 in total.
Moderation here will be rather lax. Remember that attacks should be written as attempts, but otherwise you guys are free to decide if saves are successful or not. I will intervene if there is a problem, but I heavily encourage you guys to plot together and make a group chat on discord. Remember the objective here is to do cool stuff and have character defining moments, not beat the other team at virtual sportsball.
Speaking of balls, the ball used for this game was a specially made, reinforced ball which can withstand the impact of quirks and the likes. It's roughly the size and shape of a football, can be bounced like a basketball and hit like a volleyball.
Without further ado, let's kick this off! I hope you guys will have fun!)

Winter, it was a season that Elise was quite fond of. Not only did the Germanic lass enjoy the sight of snow, she was someone who functioned better in the coldness of winter than the heat of summer. Although the first year was drawing closer and closer to its conclusion, and the school was finally hitting its stride, it seemed that events had made for remarkable changes, as became evident in the presence of a one of the girls who attended the P.E. lessons of the principal. 4 times a week, four times they went through what some of the students called 'training from hell'. Once upon a time, she would have understood such a comment, in the end even if she admired and respected Kobayashi Touma, it didn't change the fact his warm-up exercises were more suited for training soldiers instead of students.
And yet, since the start of the school year so much had changed, emotionally and physically and today the latter had become clear just how much. The first part of the warming up involved a light course of ten laps around the field. Well, it certainly was lax in comparison to the principal's usual exercises, and that was made evident as the girl started to jog. Even jogging her pace was remarkable fast, enough that she far surpassed the average high-schooler and might have looked like an Olympic athlete that was running around, and to make matters worse she was smiling! Was she actually having fun doing this?!
By the time the initial ten laps had been ran, Elise found herself already crossing past the twenty, having sprint five of those laps at a pace that could leave even those aforementioned quirkless athletes in the dust, and when called out to proceed to the next part of the warming up the girl's cheeks flushed up lightly, as she walked over to the side of the area, a soft melodious humming escaping her lips. It was kinda hard to expect her to show hints of exhaustion when Touma knew from their personal training that unless she went all out, the girl could easily keep jogging around the field for nearly six hours! But it was clearly in everyone's best interests to not let the girl start sprinting around the field at the speed of an antelope, crushing the others their moral cause of her intensive training was a bad idea.
The regimen that followed afterward was similar, and by the time they finished up Elise was stretching her body lightly, arms high in the air as she hummed playfully. "Warming up complete~ Nothing as good as a little bit of exercising in the snow~" The burgundy-haired lass hummed happily
Afterward, they went straight up to a game of sorts, one which the students of the school fondly referred to as 'Quirkball', and if Elise was to be honest, it was one of her favorite activities during this class.
So today they were going to play Quirkball in groups of 3? It was an interesting decision, and she was actually looking forward to figuring out what type of team she would be in. However, for the time being, she waited for the principal to explain the rules and regulations of this particular exercise, rules she already knew.
As usual, the rules didn't take in account for the various powers they possessed, and so Elise started to ponder just what type of plays and tactics everyone would come up with today.
Still, she couldn't help but smile inwardly at the low timbre of his voice, the monotone manner really reminding her that the man had a long way to go to teach students, but then again it made her feel a bit special to know a side of the principal that nobody else did.
As the teams were formed Elise turned toward her teammates and hummed with a smile. "Akio and Saiko-chan was it?" Elise inquired with a smile as she raised a hand to her chest, tapping it lightly as she introduced herself. "My name is Elise~ Elise von Eisenberg, it's a pleasure to meet you Saiko-chan. We won't have much time, so I'll try to explain my quirk as briefly as I can. Simply said I can turn into a slime, my body becomes really flexible and as a result I can stretch and do acrobatics far beyond what most can do. I'll also have two tentacles that I can use to hit the ball, although the time I can stay transformed is limited" She paused for a bit, a hand reaching for her cheek as she pondered softly. "That is likely why Tou--- I mean the Principal paired us up Akio, he might be thinking your quirk is incompatible with this exercise, compared to mine which has a variety of uses."
She paused for a moment, her lips curving into a smirk as she continued speaking. "Or maybe he is wanting to see if we can figure out how to turn your quirk into an asset~ Surely we both know how to make your quirk a decisive factor in scoring, right?" She inquired with a playful wink. "I think it's best that I'll guard the back of the field, I'm pretty fast and with my stamina can move around without tiring much longer than you two. However, Akio's height, skills at basketball and quirk will no doubt be of best use near the front~"
The girl turned toward Saiko and mused softly. "But I don't really know anything about you yet. If you wish to keep your abilities a secret, I'll respect that wish, but if possible could you assist Akio at the front? This formation might be the most suited for us three."
She took a step toward Akio, looking at the opposing team as she whispered into the boy's ear. "How warm or cold can you make your quirk, and how long does it take for the temperature to turn back to normal?"
Seems that there was one girl who was already scheming plans!

❝You're showing me colours of the sky, But all I see is Grey❞ 509 w. Quirkball kenjutsu-f | reinforcement-f | radiant dawn-e If she was being completely honest, Relena severely disliked winter. It was cold and the snow was too coarse...she felt aggravated every time she took a step and felt the crunch beneath her feet. But at least it was thin enough not to cause frustration for her. It was simply something she would have to adapt toward as P.E. began for the day.
Relena was unsure what to think of the Principal who stood stock still out in the cold weather, wearing less warm clothing than she expected. He must be used to this kind of weather. Regardless, his attitude was very no-nonsense which Relena admired. It showed that he was serious about his occupation, which garnered a nod of approval from the girl.
The exercise was very stimulating to her, as she only ran a few laps every morning. Relena never considered adding additional warm ups or stretches to the regiment! Adding on the forced requirement of sprinting during the fifth and last lap, Relena felt her heart beating painfully in her chest as she breathed in the air with desperation. Was she really that out of shape or was training like this expected from a top school like UA?
She couldn't help but regard the girl with the red hair as she breezed through the laps with ease. Somehow she wasn't even breaking a sweat and was even smiling! Relena didn't know her name yet, but she would be sure to keep a watchful eye on her and perhaps learn a thing or two.
Relena had very little chance to recover as Principal Kobayashi called them to assemble with a sharp screech from his whistle. She titled her head slightly with growing interest at the idea of 'Quirkball.' How clever! It was a simple exercise that suggested team work as well as careful use of one's quirk. She had no idea what everyone's quirks were and that made this 'game' all the more dangerous. After all, the only one she remotely recognized was Saiko who she had a rather awkward encounter with.
She jumped to attention when her name was called last, following Sakamato and Wanizuka. She was unsure at first who they were but, as the red haired girl was forming her team of three, it became obvious who Relena's team mates were. She took a small step toward them and greeted the two with a bow.
"My name is Relena Tsuruya and it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance."
After she stood back up, she smiled at her team mates. "If it is alright with you, I would like to take the rear. My quirk allows me to form hard light constructs from solar energy and with the sun out, I am limited only by my imagination. So I believe that I would be best suited for defense in this current situation."
She took a moment to pause, wondering if her lacking communication skills had failed her. With a raise of her eyebrow, Relena awaited their judgement. "Unless either of you have a plan?"

P.E. Class | ◀ | The heart is a heavy burden ❤ She felt horrible because of the cold, she kept moving her hand up and down on her upper arms because it was not getting any warmer in here. Why would they have to have P.E. outside, why not inside? You could not tell her that U.A. had no inside training facility because she had met Emi there. She wondered shortly how Emi was doing while running the runs she had to do for the warming up. She noticed how fast Elise was and actually surprised to see her literally up and running again so fast. Was she not in the hospital? She should ask her what she was doing and how it happened, if she did not mind talking about it.
She simply kept on running, not too fast, just a steady pace until she had to sprint on the fifth and the tenth, which was the last. But it would be ridicilous if she would already sweat too much because of that. She wished she was warmer dressed while doing so, she was afraid that it would not get any better. At least the jogging made her a bit warmer. She did some morning runs the last weeks but not all the time and certainly not in the morning. She had her hair up in a knot and was wearing normal sports clothing for this lesson.
She did not like the sit-ups, , push-ups, chin-ups nor the squads but those were the easiest. She was glad to stand still and catch her breath for a second. She shivered now that her body realized the cold yet and she felt that her hands did not went to sweat but tried to become heated which her quirk seemed to do a lot lately. She nodded when the principal mentioned the team, she simply looked at the three people whose name she did not know. As Elise pulled one with her and Akio. She knew that the other two belonged in her team, which was fine with Rowan.
I wonder how they think about the impurity.
As usual the student ignored what was said in the back of her mind and looked at Relena who introduced herself, she had seen the girl one time before and could only think of Kanna. Lucky for Kanna she did not have this class right now outside. She bet her friend would not complain at all, that was her after all. "I'm Sakamoto Rowan, nice to meet you." She crossed her arms in front of her chest and listened to Relena with her plan and simply shrugged, "I don't mind, my quirk would not work well, I doubt the ball will be that weak but I explode things with a touch of my hand." So she would be okay with slamming and smashing, giving the ball maybe an extra touch to swirl back to the bottom of the other side of the field. |

Post by Saiko Tachibana on Dec 16, 2018 20:45:25 GMT -4
Winter. A season of wonder and joy to some, and those 'some' didn't include Saiko. A frown layed across her face, she had prepared to face the wrath of Jack Frost. Thankfully, it hadn't really kicked in quite yet, but it wasn't truly 'winter' until a little whiles away. Though the weather was starting to say otherwise, dropping the first layers of snow.
It wasn't that Saiko hated everything about Winter. The various decorations and scenery was nice, and the events that usually coincided with the holidays in the wide array of video games she played were always enjoyable, as were the numerous Christmas themed episodes of shows.
That being said, the cold she couldn't stand. Could she really be blamed? Saiko had a mutation which made staying dry very difficult, and cold temperatures plus being soaked usually didn't go well together without serious repercusions. At the very least, her body seems to recognize this and at least diminishes the amount of oils she produces around this time of year, as to not die to hypothermia. Well, that is what Saiko believes anyhow.
Saiko's thoughts of warmer temperatures and activities were brought to a close when she remembered where she was and shivered slightly. Right, gym. How could she forget. Maybe the physical exertion would take her mind off of the cold...
The principle seemed alright, from what Saiko could tell. Largly straitforward, serious look upon his face. Nothing particularly unexpected for the head of the head around here. The exercises weren't too bad either. In fact, Saiko had done very similar routines when she was younger, as expected from her father. Now that Saiko pondered it, her father and the principle were fairly similar. At least when it came to getting the job done. Though her father was much to theatrical and excitable to match exactly.
Before Saiko knew it, she was already making the final lap around the course. Her wandering mind hadn't been able to pass the thought of the other student who was making it clear that she surpassed everyone else currently on the field, intentional or not. Saiko shrugged it off, knowing nothing of the girl herself. After all, she hadn't been at the school for particularly that long.
Though the way she seemed to be enjoying herself, the smile upon her face, instinctively made Saiko glower further. She was just being grumpy over the weather and having a difficult time not showing it. The exercises wrapped up with some other basic core builders, to which Saiko completed with little struggle. Though when she had finished, she hadn't passed on her heavier breathing. Maybe she had been slacking, or maybe it was the cold. Either way, She needed to take note of that for reference to perhaps add routines to her morning sessions.
The principle gathered everyone together and explained the rules of some type of game they would be playing. Guess the class wasn't over, though that also shouldn't be a surprise. Quirkball, as it was called, didn't really seem to be all that complicated. Saiko fidgeted with her hair absentmindedly as she waited for everything to finish, noticing the oils starting to already make itself known. A likely result of the exercise.
So quirkball was volleyball, but with the students being able to use there quirks. Simple enough. Again, this was all very understandable to Saiko, whom had done similar things with her friends and father to help them understand their quirks better. Soccer in particular was what Saiko was most apt at, to help strengthen her agility and stamina.
Teams were broken up, and Saiko heard her name called, which was actively waiting for. With a shiver, she shuffled slightly over to where her stood. So Relena was here also. She wasn't sure what to think of that, as the swordfighter girl was about the only person she knew around this school, and even that was not an exactly a strong connection.
So she was with...the cheery girl. The physical embodiement of everything Saiko was currently not feeling, which made her feel partly uncomfortable. The girl seemed nice enough though, and Saiko would have to try her hardest to not be rude. After all, treat others the way you would want to be treated, right?
"R-Right, nice to meet you too." She trembled out quietly, mostly keeping to herself as she side long watched what would be their opponents. If there was any weaknesses or readable exploits from the foe, Saiko would be a fool to miss out. However, from the distance and without knowing properly any of their quirk aside from her own...it was hard to gauge.
Elise's quirk seemed useful, though it was hard to judge when Saiko herself resented most of what her quirk stood for. That, and the video game player in her couldn't help but think of the various silly slime creatures which were usually early game foes and chuckle to herself.
The two, Elise and the person she kept calling Akio, seemed close enough. Hopefully they would synergies well on the field for the three of them, as this was something Saiko would have to adapt to.
"You probably know what's up over I." Saiko said plainly, wrapping her arms against herself tightly in an attempt to keep warm, all the while continueing to watch the others from afar. "I will heed your judgement and stay near the front, though I might hover between that and the middle field."
Her hair, which had been the aquatic sapphire from earlier was now a greasy teal color, oil occasionally dripping lazily off off the ends of the strands and onto the ground and herself beneath them.
"I don't really see a need to hide my quirk. Not like I am waiting for a shock and awe moment or anything, and we aren't competing with each other or anything. I will also keep it brief though."
Saiko turned her full attention towards Elise, the dull expression clear across her face. "The oil I produce from my hair can be used for mobility. At least, on my end. I don't see it having much use in terms of possibly manipulating the ball itself though, so I will leave that more to you both."
After she finished her automated message, she shifted back her attention towards the others without much thought, letting them carry on about whatever plans Elise might have concocting.
"I'll try to avoid my quirk affecting your playing fields, though you might want to be mindful that I can't directly control it, so...if you slip in my oil...can't say I didn't warn you." Saiko tacked on at the end in a grumble, desperately attempting to warm herself.
When would the game start so she wouldn't have to focus so much on her quirk...

Winter, it was fair to say, was not one of Noriko’s favorite seasons. Perhaps that was to be expected from someone whose biggest weakness was “the cold”, but she just wasn’t a fan of being outside in any weather even approaching chilly. Her body just wasn’t built to handle that sort of atmosphere –or, more accurately, it wasn’t built to be active in that sort of atmosphere. It was the same every year; she’d have to bundle up just to keep herself from getting too cold, but it’d never work well enough because her tail was always exposed and so she’d be fighting off fatigue constantly.
Having to exercise in weather cold enough that it snowed was, suffice to say, not the most fulfilling activity for her. Though it was somewhat remedied by a wearing a thick sweatshirt under her gym uniform –something she’d done in her own schools (no one really protested against it, probably because they were too intimidated to say anything)— it didn’t completely negate her problem. The principal’s warm-up might have been comparatively lighter, but that only meant that she didn’t feel the effects of the chill quite as quickly. The laps were the worst, the sprints especially, as she had never gone out of her way to work on her stamina back in her old school’s gym classes. U.A. was quickly teaching her that such thinking was a mistake, and while she wasn’t dying (yet) she trailed behind her classmates. ‘At least someone’s having fun,’ she thought, a bit bitterly, as Eisenberg lapped her (again). She didn’t even look tired!
Everything else, at least, was actually fairly easy in comparison; she was naturally quite strong so despite the extra weight her tail brought she managed to push through the rest of the exercises without too many breaks. However, Coach Principal didn’t give them much of a break after the warm-up, quickly calling them to attention with his whistle.
She was, of course, unfamiliar with Quirkball, but as she listened to the rules Noriko quickly gained an appreciation for it. It seemed sort of like volleyball, but allowing for the use of quirks during play added an entirely new dynamic to it. Glancing around as Coach Principal announced the teams, Noriko couldn’t help but feel a little bit anxious that she recognized pretty much no one’s name. Though, that was to be expected since she also recognized almost none of their faces. However as one team seemed to naturally coalesce she quickly figured out who her teammates were supposed to be.
She nodded her head as the blonde girl bowed to them and introduced herself. “Noriko Wanizuka,” she replied softly after the other dark-haired girl did the same. And it seemed that Tsuruya already had the beginnings of a game plan, as her Quirk apparently allowed her to defend extremely well in the back court. “Okay,” she said in agreement. So far it sounded good enough, and it sounded even better with Sakamoto’s quirk. Exploding things with the touch of a hand might be a problem, if only because she wasn’t too sure if the balls could withstand that. “My quirk is…” she trailed off with a shrug, feeling no need to finish the explanation. Why would she? She was a huge pink lizard woman. She couldn't hide her Quirk if she tried. “I’ll be in front and block. I’m not fast enough to be middle in this weather.” She and Sakamoto could be powerhouses up front, while Tsuruya could make sure nothing got them in the back court; or, Sakamoto could be the most mobile of them, catching what they didn’t with her explosive hands. The biggest problem was that Noriko didn’t know what exactly her opponent’s quirks were (save for a certain slime girl), and couldn’t plan accordingly. “The happy one is Eisenberg. She's fast. Watch out for her.”

Ah, P.E. One of those classes where Kirk had no problem in excelling. He always felt at home, when doing physical activity. Heck, almost all his freetime WAS physical activity. It had stuck from all that training he had done as a small child as both his coping mechanism to anything bad happening and as his way to relax his mind. After all, what distracts better than having your body on the move all the time? With his sports club leadership, he had learned that The principal atleast seemed to think the same way when it came to many things. What, with the first exercise being pretty much always a big old warm-up enough to even get him sweating.
However, there had been rumours going around, that the principal had new and big plans in mind for the rest of the year. Sporty plans. And for a while, Kirk had wondered why he had not been informed about it. He was the sportiest guy he knew! Almost the only thing he could do great! So why wasn`t he invited? Well, through his own little investigations, he outright found out what the reason was... or what he assumed it was atleast. Admittedly, his investigations had pretty much just consisted of him being so nosy and noisy about his questions about the subject, that the principal had just decided to outright contact him. And luckily for him, it seemed like the original planned team member, Akio, was busier than the principal had expected. And before the principal could have even asked Kirks opinion, he had already latched onto his hand and went "AS REPRESENTATIVE OF SPORTS CLUB, I MUST TAKE PART, DUDE!"
And naturally, now he was here. Principal was to Kirks luck understanding about his passion for these things as well, and with a chance of him joining, there was nothing stopping him from doing so.
With the initial training done, He was now stretching his body in the snow. With how his quirk was, he had to have a special "cozy" made for it, which almost looked like a turtle shell on his back. it was pretty embarrassing looking, but even Kirk knew that bare skin and snow don`t really mix. But it definitely didn`t mean Kirk enjoyed it too much. It just brought more attention to itself... but atleast it stretched so that he could open his pouch like normal... "It`s healthier too! Gives double the workout when your body gotta warm itself up continuously!" He said towards Elise, with his cheeks bright red from the cold. After all, he had jogged to school like usual.
The rules were given out, pretty simple to be honest: It was pretty much volleyball! Except with quirks included. "Well, thats simple enough!" He punched his fist into the palm of his hand. Admittedly, the idea of fighting against other peoples quirks made him a bit uneasy, but he shouldn`t be having any trouble. After all, he was propably the one with the most experience in sports like these! The teams were soon split, and his team turned out to be Elise (thankfully to be honest. She had always been too quick even for him) And This... touchbanana? "Who now?" It was a new person, Saiko TACHIbana apparently. Kirk blushed a little with his mistake.
Gathering to their side of the field, Kirk couldn`t help but notice and wave excitedly towards Rowan with a "HEY ROWAN! Best of luck!" He had never been very conspicuous, and there was no need for that here either. Elise was explaining her quirk again in such detail, that Kirk couldn`t help but ignore it. Besides, he had first hand experience of it already. Goo... sticky goo... In this sort of sport it was very handy. In the case of the other girl though, he was completely in the dark. She proceeded to tell that her quirk was oil... "Sticky and slippery then?" Admittedly he didn´t really have any idea how slippery hair could be useful in this situation, but he could see it being way more useful than... "My quirks a backpack. Thats it!" He said with a positive yet compact declaration, like nothing else needed to be said... or he didnt want to say.
He proceeded to pat Saiko on the shoulder though, holding it strongly. "No worries about the cold though! You`ll get plenty warm when we start jumping and leaping and dunking about!" He took his place in front. "Gotta just concentrate where the ball is going! if they hit the ball too hard, we win!" He said aloud. Ball games were his specialty, and this, would most likely not be an exception!

“Ah, right. Hirotaka-san is absent today, so he will be replaced by Bluster-san,” corrected the principal before he let the team huddle. He paused the judge the balance of this new group. Essentially, both Akio and Kirk liked ball games, so they should have about equal skill handling it; Kirk however was more physical and with his large backpack, a reliable defensive presence. With Elise’s speed, they should be able to cover their square fairly well. But save for Saiko’s slippery oil, they had few dedicated offensive options, with the burgundy-haired girl being more of a playmaker, and the blue-haired girl’s oil could prove a danger to their own team if misused. Despite being strong on paper, this side would need coordination and communication to prevail.
As for the other side, while none were individually powerhouses, they had a fairly balanced set of abilities that didn’t play against one another. Relena’s constructs would prove useful defensively, while Rowan could probably hit the strongest shots out of the whole lot, and Noriko provided a physical presence to the team, able to assist both offensively and defensively -- and neither were the other girl stuck in a singular role with a little creativity either. They had the tools to beat the other side, should they use them intelligently.
Overall, it was a test of adaptivity and quick thinking, as heroes were often led to team up with other heroes whose quirks they might not be familiar with. The ten minutes passed, the principal blew his whistle again, announcing the beginning of the exercise. For the next couple of minutes, he would walk past every field, observing the players and giving advice. But for now, a coin throw determined which team would serve, and play would then begin. May the best side win! (ooc: Sin is dropping out, hence Akio is being replaced by Kirk here. post order is flexible, given the rules you cannot post more than thrice per side before you have to attempt a shot, upon which the opposing team’s turn begins. don’t mind me in the post order, i might interject to comment on the play and give advice but otherwise you can ignore me) (ooc2: see discord for coin throw -- winner was team elise kirk saiko, decide between yourselves who does the serve, you can also RP the coin throw if you want, go nuts!)

How could she possibly not be excited? Quirkball was one of her most favorite ways to spend this specific lecture, and the snowy weather only served to make it all the more entertaining! However, it seemed not all of the students were as excited to be exercising in the snow, as even the walking thermometer had decided to remain absent from today's lecture. Instead the burgundy-haired lass heard a loud and energetic voice called out to answer her. "That's the spirit! I knew the Captain of the Sports club would understand~" Elise chimed back in response as she approached the muscular teenager and grinned at him. She knew that Tetsuko was fond of the energetic teenager, and Elise had to admit that his attitude did mesh well with her own, after all, there was a reason why people often compared the Germanic lass to an energized Duracell bunny! "Glad to have you on the team Kirk~"
So their opponents were Rowan, Noriko and a certain Tsuruya-san? That would be quite an interesting match-up. With the teams made the Principal prepared to toss a coin into the air and Elise energetically exclaimed. "Heads for no regrets!" Seems she truly was full of energy, and that by itself would soon be rewarded for as the coin landed and the result was checked, it seemed that the coin indeed showed heads! good, seems they were about to start with the ball then.
And so the serve would begin for their team, considering she was the one at the back, it made sense for her to do the serve. However, considering this was the start of the exercise she hoped she wouldn't need to rely on her Quirk right away, instead focusing on her speed and stamina.
Fortunately for her, Kirk also had taught her how to do proper volleyball passes and serves at the beach, and so the burgundy-haired lass took her position at the back of their field. What should she do? Start with a full speed pass toward Kirk? No, if she did that then the others would know her capacities right away and be able to take those into consideration, perhaps it was better for her to give her team a solid pass to start things with. In the end, Kirk could deliver some powerful smashes and Saiko's slippery oil actually could help them with something she had taken in consideration.
"Guess we'll start then~" The burgundy-haired lass mused softly as she tossed the ball into the air, and then as it started descending she skillfully directed it toward Kirk in a long arching motion by having hit the bottom side of the ball. There was plenty of time for Kirk to react and decide on what he wanted to do with the ball, the height of it was perfect for a smash, and it was also fast and accurate enough to allow him to pass the ball to Saiko if he wanted to. Overall it seemed that Elise had decided for the role of a playmaker!

And with that, the game was already beginning! Kirk had a hard time staying still, as Elise got the ball. Okay, prepare mentally, she is gonna pass a fast one to him, that was clear! She had always done everything she did quickly, especially in sports... And they could propably snatch a quick first point by just smacking it immediately down towards the ground! And Elise should know it! And with that, they could get this game off to a swift and positive start!
...However, instead of a big surprise blow, she instead knocked it high up in the air... While yeah, it did offer plenty of time for him to hit it with a proper spike right off the bat... that seemed sort of obvious right about now. It wouldn't be nearly ass cool if he just got blocked right off the bat... Besides, he was confused about what the girl next to him could do. May as well test her out before going ALL out!
He crossed his hands, and bumped the ball in her direction, once again giving her ample time to take a hit at the ball. "Give it your best starting launch!" Kirk could feel a bit of hype boiling in himself. There was always something about seeing people show off their stuff!

Saiko couldn't help but wish to contest her teammate, which she came to know as Kirk, simply because of his expressive pronouncing of his quirk. Something of a mundane one apparently, as it seemed all the quirk did was give him a...pouch of some kind on his back? Regardless, Saiko had grow quite scornful of her quirk, and would gladly trade the boisterous man for his quirk if she could.
After taking a breath though, she decided it wasn't really worth saying anything. He was just trying to spur her on and be friendly, that's all. Can't really blame him for trying to be motivational. Though she could have dealt without the patting and firm hold on her shoulder, being assured that things would get better once things got started. As if she couldn't figure that out.
Saiko, still being grouchy with the weather, wandered off to her place on the court, trying not to take it out on her teammates stricken with something known as 'cheer'. "Let's hope. I better not get hyperthermia." Saiko said aloud as she walked away, though low enough to where it was likely her teammates hadn't heard.
The coin had been tossed, with Elise taking leadership role for good reason. It landed heads, which meant they went first. Didn't really bother Saiko either way. At least it meant things were going to start. Prepping herself before the serve, Saiko wrung out her hair of most of its oil, attempting to coat her arms, hands, and legs with as much of the oil as possible. It created a pool beneath her also, and would likely start to spread if Saiko wasn't mindful of her positioning. With herself properly situated, the murky student watched as Elise started.
A simple serve, and one of good form. It was clear she had played before, but that surprised Saiko little considering her earlier performance on the track. The pass was a rather slow one though, and had airtime. It meant one thing. Elise was reserving her power, or lack there of, depending on her skill level. Saiko wasn't sure, and it would be interesting to see for herself, especially considering her stamina and fitness were beyond everyone else on the field.
The ball traveled to Kirk, which made a great deal of sense to Saiko. He looked physically the strongest, though this again was pure assumptions and speculation. Saiko kept and eye on the opposing field, shifting between the ball and her opponents to gauge where weakness might lie. However, based on sight alone, Saiko could not guess. She only knew Relena slightly, and she suspected the blond lass to have been hiding tricks up her sleeve last they met. Guess she would see.
"Give it your best starting launch!"
Saiko chimed in suddenly, the voice coming from Kirk as he did something she hadn't prepared for. Instead of spiking it himself...he bumped it towards her. Her eyes widened in slight panic, though thankfully he had bought her enough time to respond, even with her being unready. It didn't stop her from being a little miffed though. She bit back any kind of statement towards the jock and instead regained herself, taking a few steps forward, building speed with each step.
Timing it, Saiko waited for the right angle, and tossed herself into the air. Letting the oil carry her movement, she twisted herself, slamming her leg into the ball, much more like a football than a volley ball. She hoped the unexpected way of striking the ball, along with the oil from her quirk, might catch her opponents off guard.
Her aim was off though, instead sent flying more horizontally than downward. Saiko landed on the ground not especially gracefully because of the suddenness of the move she had to pull off. In the end, she hoped that, at the very least, her shot wasn't sent out of bounds.

❝You're showing me colours of the sky, But all I see is Grey❞ 473 w. Quirkball kenjutsu-f | reinforcement-f | radiant dawn-e After gathering their intel together, Relena felt confident in their team composition. A strong offense and defense was quite reassuring, but she was still curious about the other team. Two of them were clearly very excited over the aspect of the game. Is it overconfidence or are they just having fun? Mayhaps I am taking this a bit too serious? Her eyes narrowed on the third member of the group. She had a very brief encounter with Saiko before and it hadn't gone well. In fact, it ended with Relena landing flat on her ass. So this enemy team was a dangerous one, but Relena couldn't help but feel a tinge of excitement throughout her body. UA was full of interesting people. As the teams took their position, she kept a close eye on Elise. She would be serving up the ball, after all. Relena assumed that the cheery girl was more of a team player, so she would likely pass to Kirk or Saiko. She nodded slightly as it was bounced toward Kirk. Alright, here it comes. This guy is going to hit it hard. Gotta be ready.Relena widened her stance, ready to jump or dive as need be. But, to her surprise, Kirk actually didn't decide to spike it or anything! No, instead he passed it over to Saiko. Perhaps he was testing her? Relena knew that Saiko wasn't terribly strong, but maybe she had something hidden up her sleeve. The girl launched herself up in the air and performed an off angle kick, which was more akin to football, and sent the ball over the netting. It was shot in a way that it wouldn't be caught by Rowan or Noriko in time."Shit!" She barked. The ball's speed caught the girl off guard as it was a bit too high for the shorter girl to catch with her hand. Relena leapt into the air, glaring at the ball as it was about to pass by her. She reached for the light of the sun and began to manipulate it, causing a long object to form in her hand. After only a couple of seconds, a solid light construct of a cesta appeared in her hand. The scoop was large enough to catch the ball in the scoop.Timing the momentum of the ball in the scoop, along with her descent, Relena spun herself. Just before she was about to touch down on the ground, she struck the air with the cesta like a sword swing at a 45 degree angle. The ball was sent up into the air between both Noriko and Rowan."Heads up!" She called out.
Relena, too focused on the pass, crashed heavily onto the ground. She grunted in annoyance, looking down at the scrapes on her hands. That was a little too reckless.

With their game plan squared away, Noriko took up her place on the field and observed the other team; most of them didn’t seem to be taking the game too seriously. ‘No,’ Noriko corrected herself, ‘they’re just more relaxed. They’re having more fun.’ The reptilian girl shook her head, trying to clear her mind and right herself. She was finally getting to do sports in a place where she wasn’t treated like a total weirdo freak! She should be having a blast! Still, she wasn’t quite sure how Quirkball functioned in play, so playing cautious would need to take priority until she got into a good rhythm.
The other team got to serve first, with Eisenberg being the one to do it. Noriko expected the ball to be sent over to their side, only for her classmate to arc it over to the only male on the court, Bluster. Noriko moved over to anticipate an easy spike from the boisterous boy, but he caught her off guard by sending it over to the other. Behind the curtain of hair her eyes widened. She moved again, trying to get in front of the girl that wasn’t Eisenberg, but turned out to be too slow when the girl… kicked the ball. She hesitated as the ball wizzed by her; was that even allowed? Principal Coach certainly said nothing about it, so she could only assume it was within the bounds of the rules.
Tsuruya’s voice pushed her concerns to the back of her mind, turning her head just in time to see the blonde falling to the ground. The scoop made of light (right, that was her Quirk) launched the ball into the air between her and Sakamoto. Noriko’s exceptional height and wingspan meant that she could cover more distance in a single step than her teammate. All it took was a few small steps and she was in the ball’s path, ready to smash it back over. Then, as she reared her arm back for a spike, she remembered Sakamoto’s Quirk. Time slowed to a crawl for her as she weighed her options. She was strong, and being so tall meant she could easily see over the net and guess where good openings were. But, she was also inexperienced, and had never played this game before. She didn’t know how the ball could bounce. And, strong as she was, Noriko was sure the explosion Sakamoto could cause would be just as powerful, if not moreso. She glanced to the other side of the field, back to the ball, and made her decision.
“Yours,” she said, easily tapping the ball back up and in the brunette’s direction.

| ◀ | The heart is a heavy burden ❤ She wasn't daydreaming really, she just wondered how this would strategically work the best, if she would be able to smash it over or if Noriko would, she wondered which side would be the weakest link at this point and she looked from Elise to Kirk, to Saiko. She did not know the last girl so she could not make a guess, at least she decided she should not see this so competitive because then she would never have fun and that was absolutely what she tried to avoid. Having fun would mean she would perhaps be able to make friends, it would not be bad to lose. Ha who did she tried to convince, this did not work for herself either.
Elise started, followed by Kirk and she was ready to jump up in case it was necessary but he did not smash, he went to play it to Saiko and as Noriko was closer to her, it would not make sense to jump up now, she did keep her eye on the ball but when it came over, she would have to jump back to catch it but Relena made a nice safe for that. She wasn't sure what Noriko would do, so she kept her hands ready and ready to spark her quirk into action if need be. Noriko, in the end, said yours, indicating that it would obviously be for her and she ticked it into her direction, she smiled and jumped up following the ball to smash it with her power over the line. It would take a short amount of seconds to explode, the ball obviously did not, calculating on the power of quirks it only would be maybe hot and a bit faster. |
