An audible yawn with no sound was uncommon for two reasons. The first being that it was something that wouldn't normally be possible and the second because Jessie wasn't usually up as early as today. It was 5:00 am and the sun hadn't even risen, yet Jessie was standing on the beach waiting for one of her interns to arrive. Her name was Yumi Tasukai and she was a third-year student at U.A. She didn't know much about U.A as an institution or their policies, but she was aware that those in their third year were teetering on the edge of becoming true heroes like herself. It was because of this that for every intern who joined her agency she wanted to give them a truly fulfilling experience before they ventured out into the world. [break][break]It was because of this that she offered something a little different compared to the standard combat/rescue routine. She really wanted her trainees to be prepared mentally for the craziness that they'd run into so she had prepared several training regimes for Yumi and the first involved the ocean. She had also left a message telling her to wear a bathing suit under her normal clothes as she couldn't promise that they wouldn't end up getting wet. She didn't know much about Yumi aside from her name and appearance, but if Jessie was good at one thing it was adapting to new situations.[break][break]Hopefully Yumi didn't mind a little improv in her lessons.

Clearly this woman’s quirk wasn’t ‘Mercy’.
Juggling two school-paths, a hobby, and a job, along with just generally experiencing some of the hardest school work known to man currently, both physically intensive and mentally taxing, AND having to juggle the mess that was the current weird connections of your best friend and your boy friend, Yumi.. didn’t have much wiggle room. She would always accommodate for her UA education first and foremost, but wanting to teach when she graduated required extra courses that she took outside of normal school hours, and if she wanted to keep paying rent on her own place she’d have to keep up the blog she ran and her modelling work and…
Ugh… maybe she’d give in and let Red just buy the place for them…
A-anyway. Point being she had VERY MINIMAL wiggle room, so when she found out the 6 am time frame she already got up at was gonna be shifted to about 4 am, having to get to the beach by 5 and also, ya know, eat and get ready, Yumi… ah fuck she nearly had a hyperbolic heart attack.
Of course some management with Red meant she shifted her schedule around enough to get a full nights sleep, only interrupted when he got comfortable in bed hours after she had to settle down, but she still felt like crap this morning. She didn’t know if she’d need to pull out her quirk on this internship, but given she was told to wear a swimsuit, she opted for normal clothes for now.
Rocking up onto the beach, one of the shoulders of her UA tracksuit was sliding off, the faded white shirt underneath showing hints of the swimsuit she was wearing underneath from her home made cosplay collection, and a dufflebag slung over her shoulder carrying her actual hero costume. Her hair not pulled back in her usual ponytail and instead a bit of a loose mess, having not managed to brush it effectively when she was throwing her head back in a yawn every ten seconds that morning.
“Reeeeeady sensei…” She saluted weakly as she rocked up to the beach, holding a finger up. Suddenly a bursh of sparks flowed over Yumi, purposely a charge she knew she didn’t naturally resist, sparking her as her teeth briefly clattered from the self induced zap and standing up a lot straighter, quickly trying to fix her now even frizzier hair. “WOOO! That’s one way to wake up huh!?~” She chimed, running on adrenaline now thanks to that. “S-so… what has us meeting down the beech Umeboshi?” She chimed, trying to address the woman by her hero name.

Looking out into the great ocean in front of her Jessie was soon brought back to focus due to the sound of footsteps coming towards her. She turned to see Yumi approach her on the beach and flashed her a smile as she noted the girl's exhaustion from being up so early. As Yumi would soon find out that was exactly the point as to why she chose to be up this early. Was Jessie tired as well? Of course, but it wasn't nearly as bad given that she had a cup of coffee and a full breakfast even earlier than this. She watched with intrigue as Yumi demonstrated what she presumed was her quirk by literally shocking herself awake. Jessie was impressed given the degree of control subtle usage like that took especially given that Yumi was only a high school student.[break][break]Jessie's eyes turned a bright blue color as she attempted to establish a mental connection with Yumi "Hello hello~!" she said playfully as a joyful smile appeared on her face "You can just call me Jessie! Sorry to connect with you like this so abruptly, but I'm actually a mute" she took this opportunity to open her mouth and mimic singing a song to lighten the mood "This is part of my quirk which I'll explain later but for now..." she took the time to stretch her legs out "How about a nice, light jog down the beach? I actually placed a marker farther down so we'll just head there and come back okay?" with a genuinely sweet smile she gestured behind them and would gauge Yumi's reaction. Sure she was here to get some training and quirk control, but Jessie knew more than anyone that rushing was one of the worst things one could do given her job. Hopefully, Yumi wouldn't overthink this as Jessie was ultimately trying to make her feel comfortable and relaxed before the next stage[break][break]

Rolling back her shoulders as she loosened up, the initial burst Yumi got from zapping herself wouldn’t last long but it’d certainly help her warm into the day of activity far more quickly. She met the gaze of the older woman, her brow lifting as she watched her eyes seemingly shift colour before a voice radiated in her head. She briefly whirled about, not sure where it came from before looking back to the heroine, speaking out loud still herself out of force of habit. “OH! This is part of your quirk too? I didn’t find that when I searched online but er… I guess most of those Wikis keeping track of you guys aren’t easy to keep up to date yet.” She gave out a light little chuckle, especially as her mentor for the day mimicked some singing poses or something before directing Yumi’s attention down the beach. A light jog didn’t sound daunting at all. She went on morning jogs ever since first year of UA. For a long time her quirk had kept her having a mildly toned physique but the muscle was more for show than practical use. Putting in regular cardio helped make sure she was actually as fit as she looked.
“Yeah I can manage that.” She chimed, smile bright but not as bright as a moment ago. She wasn’t about to go back to full exhaustion but the reality of her situation was setting back in as the adrenaline burst slowly wore off. “It’s not a race is it? I have to warn you without my quirk my speeds not all that impressive…~” She rubbed at the back of her neck a little nervously, wondering if her mentor for the day knew she couldn’t use her quirk to it’s full utility without changing into her hero costume, buuuuut if it came up it’d be easy enough to explain, and it’s not like there weren’t public changing rooms she could use. “Here where do I put this?” She hoisted her dufflebag off her shoulder, placing it wherever her mentor for the day deamed was safe, sliding back up beside her and bending down into some leg stretches to either side, groaning a little as that reeeeally helped her feel the tiredness in her limbs. “yeeeah… there we go...!” She chimed out, hopping back up to her feet and doing a few small jumps to try and get the blood more literally pumping. “Ready when you are!~”

The look of surprise on others' faces whenever she spoke directly into their minds was always funny to Jessie. Even though as a child she had always tried her best to not burden others with her ability it was nice to be able to freely use it at this point in her life. Yumi's genuine confusion as she looked around for the source of the voice made Jessie burst out laughing. Of course, given her condition, this looked more like some sort of mimicry act but it was very much real. [break][break]'Clearing her throat' to regain her composure she answered Yumi's question "Yes! Well, sort of? This is just one part of my quirk. I'll show you more of it as time goes by~" jogging was one of Jessie's favorite ways to stay in shape and she had found that it was also a good way to bond with whoever she was with as well. In this case, she wanted that to be the first part of the internship as she had explained in her advertisement, weird as it was to have one, that she was particularly skilled with connecting and helping fix emotional issues. Yumi didn't seem too troubled at the forefront and yet Jessie still felt compelled to act the same way as she would with anyone else. Doing a couple stretches she pointed to a spot a few feet away which was where Jessie had placed down her own gear. "It's safe don't worry! I do this all the time" she, in fact, did come and go through training regimes of her own all the time in this exact spot.[break][break]"We're not racing so there shouldn't be any need to worry about speed! I read up on you a bit from what you provided on the internship form as well as what the school provided me" shaking her legs one at a time to work out any kinks she was finally ready to go "Lets hit it! We'll try to keep pace with each other and I want you to tell me about yourself Yumi. Your dreams, what your schooling is like, you name it" she gestured with an open palm and began at a slow pace as the two would move across the sand.

Yumi blushed and pouted briefly as the hero had some fun at her expense when she showed some deep confusion at the source of her voice, making sure not to be too rude in her own pouting. She was here to learn afterall so it was only fair that she take a few light jokes and teases. It wasn’t like she could never dish out as good as she gets given the right opportunity afterall. Still, she quickly adjusted to the voice in her head, quietly thinking to the fact UA recently got a mute heroine in training. She wondered if she should maybe let them know about this Pro Hero sharing their issue. They might be able to learn some communication tips for when they become a pro…
Back to the matter at hand, she dragged herself from her thoughts, nodding at the prompt to get them moving on a run. She’d drop her bag for now and stretch out her legs a bit, keeping some momentum would definitely help her keep the adrenaline up anyway. “Sure thing.” She started off with a light jog, though since she’d been jogging with Feng for some time, holding a conversation, while not the easiest thing, was certainly possible for her mid jog.
“Well… if you wanna get into my dreams first and foremost I er… I’ve been working towards becoming a teacher at UA, once I graduate. I’ve been thinking er… I’m gonna be the first generation of officially trained heroes so… I wanna use what I learn and give back to anyone who’s gonna come after me right? Seems only natural afterall… I’ve got some other things I wanna do too like erm… I work as a part time Model and, well, I wouldn’t wanna give that up too soon but… I know some sacrifices might have to be made if I focus on my hero career… how about you hm? What had you start the whole hero work thing? A-assuming you don’t mind this being a bit of ‘give and take’ on the sharing.”

It wasn't meant to be a race and Jessie was definitely treating it as casual as possible. She kept pace with Yumi running side by side towards the goal she had placed down the beach. Knowing that Yumi hadn't signed up for physical training it might have seemed odd that they were just jogging but it served its purpose given the type of training she had actually signed up for. [break][break] Jessie was listening intently as Yumi explained what her goals were and couldn't help but smile to herself. She seemed like someone who truly had some promise...well most of the kids she'd met did but this girl seemed a lot more focused and confident than the others she'd met so far. Heck hearing that she wanted to impart her knowledge on the next generation really struck a chord with Jessie as she felt the same given her new status as a pro she really needed to do her best to make everyone she met feel like they had someone to lean on. What Yumi said next got Jessie thinking to the real reason as to why she became a pro hero which ultimately was to reconnect with her half brother Tobias. She didn't want to plague her with the sad nature of their relationship and for Yumi to think that ultimately she was a bad person...well she was trying to be better than what Toby probably remembered. [break][break] Snapping back to reality she realized that a decent chunk of time had passed since anyone had talked and that it was probably uncomfortable for Yumi to have asked her a simple question just to be kept waiting "Sorry! I had to think about that one for a minute. Might be a little cliche but if you want to be a teacher and stick with your modeling career I say go for it! I'm fairly new to the hero scene, but there are a few people out there that I've met who live double if not triple lives!" it was meant to sound inspiring and not pandering yet there was a chance Yumi might think otherwise "As for me? Well, I actually got into this line of work by chance! You see my older half brother is actually a Pro as well as in a way I guess you could say I'm following in his shoes?" To be perfectly fair aside from wanting to teach others she didn't really have some sort of super inspiring backstory like many of her other pro heroes so she decided that being honest about that might be better overall "Do you have any plans for more schooling after you're done at U.A?" if there were any requirements for higher education to teach at U.A Jessie was ignorant to them. They were about a quarter of the way to the goal post and Jessie picked up the pace slightly she would really need to tire out Yumi if she was to properly teach better her quirk control as she had come here to do.

Yumi kept her breathing pretty regular. It was a little hard to do so when she was talking but her cardio was a regular part of her routine ever since the first year of UA, and she’d even started getting used to talking a bit now that Feng had started to join her on her runs. She looked over to her mentor for the day as she asked her question, curious in part to see if mentally communicating while jogging offered any sense of struggle. For a moment she thought it might as she was hearing nothing from the older woman, but soon enough it was revealed she just needed a moment to think, leading Yumi to have a mild little chuckle as she realized what had brought on the pause.
“Oh that’s cool.” She’d throw in as she realized the pro heroine was sort of going for a family business angle, or perhaps more accurately was just following the example of a family member in this case. “I know a kid in the first year… er, second year now. Their mom was a hero in Europe so they’re trying to be a big pro themselves. It’s good seeing how that can work as a bit of a motivator but er… also a demoralizer. Like having someone to follow behind can offer some guidance but… ya always can find yourself trying to live up to their example. Sometimes that ain’t so easy…”
She didn’t mean to ramble but the jogging was letting her ideas and words flow a little more freely, and as much as she’d seen Yasashi motivated by his mom’s heroism, she tended to get the feeling that him basing his desires on following in her footsteps wasn’t entirely a healthy set of motivation, as it could potentially leave him unsure of where he needed to step next and how without disappointing her. Ah well, bit of a heavy topic and not one she should personally butt her nose into. In all honesty the talk of other heroes living triple lives definitely helped. She always worried she was going to be juggling too much but… once her studies were over she could make her own hours as a hero, so it likely wouldn’t be too bad after that point.
When asked if she planned to continue her studies she shook her head. “Normally I’d er… need to take part in a teaching course? But I’m doing it as part time evening classes alongside my main UA classes, so I can start being an official assistant once I graduate. Assuming they accept my application.” She thought for a moment before asking. “You have any aspirations outside of hero work? I-I mean it’s more than enough on it’s own, im just curious since I do is all…”

Listening to Yumi explain that she knew someone who was enrolled at U.A mostly because their parent happened to be in the business she was intrigued. Originally this was because she was wondering if any of the other interns who had signed up for her teachings fit the profile but the mention of wanting to 'follow in their footsteps' was something that really resonated with her. She still wasn't exactly sure why Toby had chosen to become a Pro Hero, but she hoped that during their eventual reunion that she could get some answers. "Yeah! Family can be really complicated but it's still good to see the next generation working hard regardless!" she found that since becoming a pro she had grown a much deeper appreciation for those who were considered heroes in training. With a soft smile on her face, she continued "I'm sure they'll accept your application! You seem like a smart kid and from what I read you've excelled at U.A. As long as you keep up the good work you'll be fine" the sun was steadily starting to rise over the horizon as the pair continued their slow but steady jog down the beach [break][break]"My other aspirations? hmm.." To be perfectly honest Jessie didn't really have much she considered aside from reconnecting with her brother and being a role model for the next wave of heroes "I guess I can't really say I have any? I got a degree in psychology which to be perfectly frank I haven't done much with." she had initially toyed with the idea of becoming a school psychologist which changed as soon as she realized where her half brother was located. "I wouldn't worry too much about it! I've got my hands full with all of you students working with me and I just hope I can at least help you all find your way" she gave Yumi a reassuring pat on the shoulder as she pointed forward "Let's pick up the pace a bit yeah?" she kicked off her right foot mid jog as she moved moderately faster into a slight run. They were a little over the halfway point and between having gotten her up extra early and then run Jessie wanted to make sure Yumi was almost completely exhausted before they got back to the starting point. It would be a long day of training for the both of them that was for sure. [break][break]

“Hehehh. Yeah definitely. I mean, its always good to see how dedicated my fellow students can be, whatever their motivations!~” And it really was. You had people like her who’d came to UA to work on her quirk control and then turned into wanting to be a teacher. You had people like Yasashi who were following someone else’s lead and then you had someone like Red who kinda just wanted to be a badass and work with the hero gadgets and stuff, but whatever the case it was still inspiring, whatever their motivations, to see her fellow students working so hard towards the end of their third year… god that was super close now huh…
She shook the mild nerves building from that thought from her head, taking a quicker breath for just a second to suppress any mild panic that arose from that as she continued to jog alongside her mentor for the day. The support from whom was nice to hear itself. “Heh… thanks. I think they want me to do my year of sidekick work before I can teach but.. we’ll see how that goes.~”
Her brow raised with some surprise as she said she had a degree in psychology. She was tempted to ask if that was in any way related to how she could communicate telepathically but she wouldn’t be so rude as to voice or ask about that partial assumption, just trying to focus on the jog they were sharing, actually starting to wonder where abouts they were meant to be ending here. “Well you have a career as a therapist or something to fall back on then if this doesn’t work, ehehehe…” She let out a mild chuckle, smiling warmly over to the woman beside her before focusing her eyes back ahead. “Plus it probably comes in handy on rescue jobs or dealing with hostage situations, knowing how to calm people down… hey did we… pass the place we were meant to be jogging to or-“ Nope. She just got told to pick up the pace. With a light groan, her self zap adrenaline boost definitely worn off by now, she pushed herself a little harder to keep her jog going. Normally this distance wouldn’t be a worry but god with so little sleep in her this was killing her…!
Still, this was her internship and how her mentor wanted to spend the time, so she shouldn’t complain…

"Sorry to suddenly pick up the pace! we're kind of fighting against nature here" Jessie pointed towards the horizon as they could both see the sun starting to slowly peak over it signaling day time was almost starting. For her exercise to really do what she had planned they were mostly fighting the tides and without her phone to accurately check when that would be she would just have to rely on the sun. As the two sped up Yumi for the first time would be able to see what their destination was. On the beach were a few metal poles, wooden boards, and two large bags which given the size of them were most likely to carry the rest of the gear. Jessie, since she was just a few paces ahead of Yumi, got there first and stopped to catch her breath. "Oh, this is my gear! You may not be a huge fan of this next part, but we're gonna pack this stuff and walk back. It's kind of heavy but we can both do it!" she was radiating optimism at this point to which she guessed Yumi might be thinking at this point that she had a few screws loose or at the very least that perhaps she should have taken a different teacher, but in Jessie's eyes, it was the physical and mental exhaustion she was causing Yumi that would end up being the best for her training. [break][break]After the two most likely packed up all the gear Jessie would point back at their footprints and start walking in that direction. She would guess if she hadn't asked already, that Yumi would have some questions about now outside of her own personal life. "I know this may seem more than a little unorthodox, but I guess you could chalk that up to what being a hero is like?" She was trying to speak from the heart even if she didn't have as much experience as your average hero "I may not be the most experienced when it comes to this line of work but there are some crazy things you'll be seeing out in the field." she thought back to her missions with Witch Doctor and how they were basically pacifying spirits and phantoms the whole time. "Then again I'm talking to someone who goes to a school full of kids with all kinds of crazy quirks and I'm sure you've dealt with a lot in the last three years huh?" she readjusted the strap over her shoulder as the bag she was carrying started to slip down slightly but was able to catch it in time to correct herself.[break][break]

When they got to their destination Yumi’s adrenaline burst from earlier was all but giving in on her. Without her quirk she wasn’t exactly too impressive a specimen. She was fit, she kept in shape by all means, but she was no Olympian or anything without her quirk supporting her actions. Her hands dropped to her knees, keeping her standing, trying to just take a few deep breaths as the lack of sleep and the dragging of the sand against her feet with every step finally caught up with her, eyes tracing up to the woman acting as her mentor who said they’d just be… packing up some gear… she randomly left at the other end of the beach.
Yumi was very tempted to curse, but bit her tongue. She instead just gave a slow nod to the request, stretched out her back and loosened up again before starting to help with the packing up. Without her costume she didn’t exactly have super strength or anything, so she may have ended up carrying the lesser load, but given they’d be walking rather than jogging at least, she’d still try and carry at least a fair share of the load.
“Mmm..?” She’d chime back a little tiredly as she realized her mentor was trying to talk to her on the walk back, smiling a little weakly as she tried to remain upbeat despite the morning torture. “Oooh yeah I mean… it’s more like 2 years but we’ve all been through hell and back a few times… weirdly it’s not the quirks that make things weird. Everyone’s so different and unique. Normally you’d have jocks and stuff in a highschool but… its like every person is their own unique ‘clique’ sometimes, so diverse and off that it’s hard to find a group to settle into, and even when you do…” She shrugged casually, a little defeated by the morning so far and not having the energy to start divulging the issues she’d had within her own group of friends. “But hey. They’re gonna be my co-heroes when I graduate. Gotta learn to get along with them sooner rather than later ya know? Bet it’s a bit easier being a pro… most of you guys just lone wolf it till the really big stuff comes along and ya gotta team up right? Least that’s how a lot of the pros make it sound, even if they try not to say it so bluntly…”

Eyeing the girl up and down Jessie began to laugh "It's okay Yumi. You can admit that this training is hellish if you want to." she could tell that the girl was trying to keep her composure but the wear and tear were starting to show as even her movements had become sluggish. "I'll explain what I'm actually having us do here." she held up three fingers "First. I read all about your quirk and suit you require to utilize it I'm going to help you get some more refined control outside of that." lowering one of them she continued "Second. When the body reaches it's most exhaustive state that is when even the most basic of things become difficult I brought you to that point for that reason." she had moved on to her final point "Third. The flow of the ocean and tides are what is going to help you with the flow of your quirk." in the time they had been talking they had actually made some decent progress back to the start "I'm sure your teachers have had you brute force your way through some assignments and I actually watched some footage on your entry into the Sports Fest. I think our quirks have a lot in common." the sun was rising steadily at this point which just meant that she was going to have to explain a bit more before they arrived back at the starting point which wouldn't be too much longer [break][break] "My quirk is called Aura Zone. It lets me freely manipulate my aura however I see fit." she held out her palm as they walked as blue energy radiated from her palm in the form of a water-like aura. "You see everyone has an aura. Even you have one." she pointed to Yumi's abdomen but wouldn't try to describe the intricacies of how she could see something like that "And if you can direct the flow of it, you can apply that control to other things. Even something as wild as electricity or unruly as fire can be controlled and channeled." at this point they had arrived back at the starting point and Jessie gestured for Yumi to hand her the gear she had been carrying. "Take a seat while I set this stuff up" she hoped Yumi didn't mind sitting in the sand, but she figured the girl had worked hard and at least deserved a break while she continued the work. After all, Yumi's training was just getting started and she'd need her strength.[break][break] Jessie began to remove the gear from the bags which revealed that the metallic poles they had brought over here had gauges on them and were slightly more technical than initially shown. She began to assemble them and placed them in the ground all around her while taking what was the biggest one and places that one several meters away from the rest of them. For the time being she left the wooden boards on the ground and turned back to her new apprentice "These are so I don't get struck by your quirk. What your end goal is going to be is to direct your electricity to avoid the rest of these lightning rods and hit the one waaaaay back there" she positioned her thumb to point to the pole she had specifically placed away from the rest. "If you'd like we can get started right away and you can show me what you can do...or I can give you a demonstration on what absolute control over your quirk can look like." she felt like perhaps the air was getting a little too serious after her long-winded explanation "I can't shoot lightning so if you were hoping for that you might be disappointed!" giving Yumi a big smile she hoped that she wasn't under the impression that Jessie was going to be expecting perfection on her first try.

Yumi’s eyes and gaze lifted a bit as her mentor for the day started to talk about what they had in mind for them. Apparently they’d be working on controlling her quirk outside of her costume? That… Yumi admittedly had some doubts about if that was even possible. Sure, its basically what she’d initially joined UA to learn how to do, but she’d only been able to suppress her instinctive uses of her quirk outside of her costume. Without it… she still couldn’t reliably use her quirk. Red made some gadgets that let her use it in microscopic bursts but… that was all. “I… see…” She let out, uncertainty clearly in her voice. Still she listened as best she could, trying to offer some respect to the woman’s idea. So she exhausted her purposely to make the rest of the day more difficult… she wondered if that should make her feel better or worse… she was picturing worse. Finally, the reason they were on the beach was to witness the ocean waves, which would be explained a little more when the woman explained her quirk.
“You do…?” She’d ask, curious as to what might relate their quirks, shifting the weight of the equipment she was carrying so she didn’t topple over or anything. She listened to her talk about aura, mildly surprised, having always had an idea that it was something that only existed in folktales or, say, anime that she watched with Red on the weekends. She didn’t initially see the connection on her own, but the idea being that they’d hopefully be able to focus their… aura, to help harness their electricity… an interesting avenue to go down to say the least. While maybe a little sceptical, she was at least prepared to give it a chance.
“Yeah… yeah that… could work.” She let out, still a bit unsure but showing she was clearly open to the idea. Easing down the equipment or handing it directly over as needed, for now Yumi took the relief of having a chance to ease the tension in her legs, leaning back on her elbows in the sand and closing her eyes for a moment as she just let herself catch her breath. When all was said and done and she was left looking at the set up that would be used to help her train… she gave out a nervous little scoff.
“I… think you underestimate how little control I have without some support…” She muttered out just loud enough to hear. She appreciated the idea that her mentor would demonstrate first but she chook her head. “Take a couple… dozen, steps back, and I’ll go first. I wanna be clear I’m open to this, and I wanna try but… you should see what you’re up against…”
With a slow breath Yumi waited for her teacher to back up far beyond the metal poles, looking to the one in the distance that was meant to be her target. She lifted an arm and braced it with the other, a typical form she took when doing long range shots with her quirk. However, as she activated her quirk… it turned wild in all directions. Tendrels of electrical energy sparking off her body in every direction, the metal rods around her thankfully grounding it where they could, but some tendrels sparking off into the distance around her (up to a potential C rank range). All the same, Yumi tried to focus a single shot, a thicker tendrel sparking off of the main burst, Yumi’s aim entirely off however and the rod in the distance not even getting hit, more curving the shot so it hit the sand rather than a pier off in the distance, Yumi left panting as she lowered her arm, the sand around her shimmering as she’d basically turned chunks of it to glass, seeming even more exhausted than before.
“T-that’s… what your up against… without my suit… ehehe..” Thankfully, her clothes seemed fine, Yumi working with a lot of electro-retardant materials when making her own clothes. She looked a little disappointed that, even when just trying normally, without trying to suppress the ‘burst’ nature of her quirk, she couldn’t manage to hit the target in the distance, and her uncontrollable output escaping some of the metal poles meant to contain it.

Jessie truly had no reason to doubt what Yumi was saying about how difficult her quirk was to control given that electricity itself was unruly and had several constraints attached to it to even be utilized properly. She had seen videos of Yumi in action previously and was well aware that she had several pieces of tech that helped keep her powers in check. "Oh no, I've seen your suit! It's quite impressive" she said trying to clear the air and seem just a tiny bit more informed than this unusual training had perhaps given the impression of "I know that the nature of certain quirks can be that they're hard to control...in fact, I have a friend with a quirk akin to wildfire which as you know can easily get out of control. He's actually a bit like you in that he actually wears a full containment suit to not let his powers get out of control" this example was much less applicable than Yumi's situation as the friend in question was someone from her university that was never planning on becoming a hero and was much more concerned with trying to normalize day to day life. Jessie was prepared to step up and demonstrate what she meant by learning to control her quirk, but Yumi took the initiative and suggested she back up a decent amount. [break][break] "No problem! Just give it all you've got, okay?" she backed up a fair distance away and made the decision to use her own quirk so she could focus more precisely on the flow and change of Yumi's own aura. A purple glow manifested from her center and like the flow of water slowly surrounded her form as the rest of the world seemed to fade from Jessie's view. In this state, she was only focused on Yumi and what she was about to do next which even though she expected it the display of power and range of her abilities was extremely impressive. Hard to believe that this was the quirk of a teenager! Luckily for her, the distance put between them came in handy as she was able to essentially sidestep a stray bolt of electricity which kicked up some sand in the process. Once this subsided and Yumi was clearly more tired than before Jessie approached her again with the intention to give her some notes.[break][break]"You weren't kidding when you said you need a suit!" she laughed once more in complete silence "See I don't think with the time we have together that I could ever teach you to fully control your quirk but how about being able to at least bring in some of the burst?" at this point she had deactivated her quirk as the purple aura began to recede and move closer to her center. "Let me show you what your own aura looks like before and during your quirk use" she held a palm out in front of Yumi in which she emitted a yellow, glowing sphere that floated delicately in front of them "This is aura which is basically the core of all living things. Every living thing sentient or not has the most basic version of this inside them which I guess you could call a sort of..life energy? It's more complicated than that but for the purpose of this training I'll leave it at that" she tensed up her hand and with some focus, the sphere effectively doubled in size "Now this is what it's like when you're putting more energy out like exercising as it expands to match the demand. For most people, this is where it stops but for quirk users, it gets a bit more complicated." while still holding the sphere in one hand she bent down and used a finger to draw in the sand "Quirks are said to be the next step in evolution for humans. This is where aura gets more complicated..." she drew the same image twice but noted that one of them was quirkless "As a person draws on energy to do physical or mental tasks the demand for aura or 'life energy' grows. It's usually one dimensional as in just stretching or getting larger but-" she added a flair of wildness to the quirk users drawing "...-the quirk user requires much more refined control" standing up she continued "For you when you use your quirk your aura does this" she focused as the sphere began to rapidly expand and contract violently with parts of it flying off and dissipating in a similar fashion to electricity itself before the sphere settled down leaving it much smaller in size than before "There are a couple of things I think we could do to help this, but for starters, I think if we focus on a low output and controlling that we can move forward to eventually giving you some control over the much larger bursts you do? Oh, and the reason I wanted to get your worn-out is that if we can get even a tiny bit of control when you're exhausted I'm sure that'll turn into a fairly decent amount when you're well-rested!" perhaps a bold statement given that they were just starting out but it was an apprenticeship so Jessie figured even if it didn't work out they could always keep trying
