Chise had been excited to try one of the pastries from the new bakery that had opened up downtown, it was a Global-esque bakery that was pretty well known over in the good old United States. She had heard about the resturant from her aunt who also owned a bakery in the town over who heard it from some of the customers in her shop. This bakery was said to have pastries ranging from baklava to cream horns to something called whoopie pies which sounded absolutely decadent. Her aunt even said that the first 100 people even get put into a raffle for a years worth of pastries from the bakery, she swore if she won she would die a happy woman. Chise's mouth was watering just thinking about the different desserts she could try. What she did not anticipate, however, was a line coming from outside the store that seemed to round the corner.
She didn't think everyone in town had heard about the bakery so why was practically half of the city waiting in line? Chise made a soft worried noise, afraid the bakery would sell out of good by the time she reached the front. Chise even left her room an hour before the bakery was said to open...perhaps an hour was not enough time. When something like this happened, she heard that people even camp out the night before just to be able to get a spot. With that thought in mind, Chise quickly took her place in line and waited in anticipation, hoping she was further ahead in the line to be able to at least get something! A macaroon, a chocolate chip cookie, some mochi, she would take anything as long as it meant she would get something! An opportunity like this doesn't come around that often! Now only time would tell whether or not Chise's dreams would come to fruition or not.

Money. It was the motivation of most of the world. Heroes wanted fame for money. Villains wanted to steal money. Money was the lifeblood of the world. "Amber, you are not gonna believe this.""Believe what?" The pink haired girl looked up from wiping down the tables. She had taken the job for the month for the grand opening. She was only hired to deal with a lot of the menial duties the rest of the staff didn't have to do. As a result, she didn't need to actually talk or interact with customers. She just had to make sure everything was clean and worked so the rest of them could do their job. At most, she had to make sure everything was orderly. And unofficially, she was prepared to stop any fights as well. "These people have been here since before we got here." the girl would say. "What we're selling isn't like, that good, is it?""Hell if I know." he would say. She had gotten used to making up new names with every job she took. it helped in making things interesting. She opened the door. It was 1 minute to opening. "Don't worry everyone, after I wipe this down, we'll be open for business." She would say it, wiping the outer glass down. Her own attire a yellow shirt and jeans, with the bakery's pink apron over her front. As she opened the door the rest of the staff would quickly put the goods in the glass display cabinet. They were preparing for war. And they had at least three trays extra of everything. Whatever didn't sell, Kasey was allowed to take home. She hoped they would make even more food. ~ 285 ~

Chise had checked her phone for every minute that passed, too anxious about the opening of the bakery and praying she would be able to buy some pastries. Soon enough, the doors were opened and the line began to move. Chise quickly put her phone away and got her wallet out, holding it tightly in her hand as she inched her way up in the line, soon making her way to the front with each satisfied customer that left the store. The line should move relatively quick as there was a max on how much one person was allowed to get today since it was the opening. She didn't know what they would have out but no matter what it was, there were bound to be lots of it and it would taste good no matter what it was!
Chise bit her lip, watching as customer after customer walked past her with small pink boxes of baked goods, trying to stop herself from salivating and wanting to take their box as her own. The longer Chise had to wait, the hungrier and more impatient she got. She imagined the soft crème inside the gumbo crème horns, the nutty flavor of the biscotti, the chocolate chips inside the cannoli, the red bean paste inside the taiyaki...all of it was so good yet she had none in her possession! At one point the line had stopped, making Chise believe that they had run out of treats already and she was so close! She could seen the opening to the bakery yet it was just out of reach! The gods above must heard her prayers as the line began moving once more. Chise was right in front of the store now, only one step away from getting inside. Chise prayed to the baked good gods above, hoping that she would be lucky enough to get some goodies of her own!

This life, always seemed so little, when you compare to others. But what happens when you compare to yourself. The crowds came in and flooded the counter. Three registered faced each of the people, one at a time. They were limited to any five items, at a max of five total only. People could have mixed it up, or gotten only one thing. It was their rule for this week at least. And after everyone was handed a paper card that granted them a free item on their next visit in the following week. People poured in, ordered and sat down. Kasey hand bounced from table to table as everyone left and she cleaned up the crumbs left behind. No one seemed to stay for long, as most left right after. She seemed to be running back and forth, all the while telling people who stood around, to leave as they were crowding the shop. You either were in line, in a seat, or gone. There was only a dozen tables with two to four seats each. Kasey had wiped them down with her rag almost the entire time, while letting the bakers know what was low in the front. It was a busy day. And there was much more people to come. ~ 213 ~

Chise bit her lip in anticipation as there were only three people ahead of her in line, she was so close she could practically reach out and touch the glass display case were all the baked goods were held prisoner until the faithful customers set them free from their Plexiglas prison. With one person left, only two stood in the way of Chise and her glorious sweets. The redhead looked around and saw that some people had decided to sit and eat the pastries they had purchased which she thought was a bit odd. She thought people would want to get out as quickly as they could to go home and enjoy their baked goods but she supposed she was wrong. Chise herself had nowhere specific to go after she got her sweets so she supposed she could sit and enjoy at least one before she took the rest home. One more customer down, only one more in the way until it was her turn in the spotlight.
Chise looked to where the tables were set up and saw two of the bakery's waitresses bussing tables to deal with the influx of customers. The definitely were getting their work cut out for them, moving at what seemed like the speed of sound to try and clear as many tables as they could for the people waiting to sit down and enjoy their purchases. Chise noticed one girl in particular, a rather slim girl with rose colored hair and crystal blue eyes, who had been cleaning the tables down. She was too busy looking at the girl to realize it was her turn to order until the person behind her poked her on the shoulder. Chise practically jumped at the action and pried her attention away from the pinkette back to the task at hand, ordering her pastries. "I am s-so sorry! M-My apologies! M-May I have..." she spoke as he face turned a bright red out of embarrassment, pointing to the five different pastries that wished to buy. She fumbled taking her money out of her wallet, almost dropping some change she had on the ground. She bowed quite a few times after paying the cashier and taking her change and her order. She moved away from the line as quickly as possible as to not make anyone else angry with her.
Chise turned her attention to the small cluster of tables, finding a small two person table open as of right now. She excused herself, making her way past the people who were already sitting down and sat at the two person table. With a soft sigh she placed her box of baked goods on the table, opening the box up and staring down at the things she ordered. Chise licked her lips out of instinct, finding it hard to decide what she wanted to try first. They all looked so good!

"Hey, sorry I'm late!" the girl spoke, waving to Kasey, "Go on break amber, I got it now!" a girl spoke to her while still tying her apron on. She came from the back of the shop and held her own rag. Kasey nodded and turned to the crowd of people. Although, now it was calmed down. The queue was just a few dozen people and no one seemed to be as anxious to try the treats. "Nah, go on lunch." one of the bakers would say, only to toss a brown bag at the pink haired girl. Her expression was emotionless, as if she was half awake. She caught the bag and turned to all of the tables. All of them were full, and the break room they had, was full of boxes of goods. There was no where to rest but outside. But there was a table with a seat, and at it, was a single female. She made her way towards her, "Is this seat taken? Do you mind if I sit here?" Kasey would say to the girl. But she wouldn't even know it was someone who was staring at her not so long ago. But life is life. Weird things always happened in her life. ~ 210 ~

Chise looked at the sweets she had purchased and considered her options: she could eat one now and take the rest home for later, or she could eat a little bit of each before deciding on taking them home, or she could eat them all here now and go home with nothing. Eating none of them now was not an option, she had waited long enough and she was going to enjoy at least something right now.
Chise heard someone talking close to her, prying her eyes away from her treats to look up at the one who had asked the question. She didn't think it would be the pinkette she was looking at while she was in line. "A-Ah no, you can sit there if you'd like," Chise said watching as the other sat down, placing a brown paper bag on he table. Perhaps she was on her break and she was enjoying her lunch or possibly some of the pastries? She didn't want to ask and get in the other's business when she was just trying to relax. Chise decided to mind her own business and go back to debating on which pastry to try first.
After a long and strenuous battle, Chise decided to try a bite of the cannolo she had bought. She carefully picked up the baked good and examined it, looking at the delicious chocolate chip and thick creamy filling, the chocolate coated outer shell, the sweet aroma the pastry gave off, all of it was too tempting not to eat. Chise took a small bite and smiled, enjoying the wonderful flavor of the cannolo, everything melded together wonderfully creating a harmonious taste in her mouth. She didn't care if she looked dumb, as of right now she was on cloud nine.

She had been welcomed to take her seat by the kind female. She set the bag on the table, completely unaware of what they had given her. She opened the bag to find it to be nothing but several wads of scraps. Anyone else would have been disappointed to find the mess given to her, but Kasey very well knew that in the rush of things, mistakes would be made. Rather than use her employee powers to allow herself to buy anything at any limit, she settled for free scraps of everything. She reached in to grab a handful of the burnt and unappealing cookies and chocolate. It looked like a muffin had a baby with a dog's butt, but she knew what the ingredients were. It was only looks. She could only imagine the taste . . . "Does it. . .""Holygodfuckshitballlllssss . . . " the voices in her head all cheered in bliss of the taste of would appear to be something that an animal would leave behind. There was no words to describe her moment, nor what she got. She didn't even know as much as what they were selling, well that names of them at least. She snapped back to reality, looking forward to the girl she ate with. She seemed to enjoy it too. "What's ya get?" she asked a bit curious, after all, hers was presentable. ~ 234 ~

Chise was brought out of her daze when she heard the pinkette across from her ask her what she had gotten for herself. Chise swallowed her bite of canollo before putting it back in the box, looking up at the other with reddened cheeks. "S-Sorry!" Chise stuttered, eyes wide as she looked across the table at the other, not realizing the other was going to speak to her other than asking for the vacant set across from her. "A-Ah I had only gotten a few things to t-try...one of the homemade cannoli, a fruit tart, a large piece of baklava, a cream horn and some c-chocolate truffles," she said, already knowing she made a fool of herself in front of the pinkette. She was never good when put under pressure, but even something like this caused Chise to freak out just a bit. "I probably looked really stupid eating my baked good...and I apologize for that..." Chise didn't know what she was really apologizing but she felt the need to do so in order for the other not to be mad at her...what would she be mad at? Chise didn't really know herself.
Chise grabbed a napkin and wiped her mouth, her eyes scanning around the room to think of a way to change the subject. "S-So are you a full time employee or a p-part timer? Is there anything that m-made you want to work in a bakery?" Chise asked, hoping her questions weren't too overbounding or getting too personal with the other. She thought it was at least one way to pass the time with both of them there until the other had to go back to work...might as well act somewhat civilized instead of being quiet.

Maybe it was wrong for her to socialize while on her break, but it was dying down, few people came in, an as long as none of them took a seat, maybe she could spend more time. "We have at least another twenty five minuses." the voice of Setsuna reminded her, keeping track of time from within her mind. He was a harmful spirit, but with the cost of her quirk, maybe a voice or two in her head wasn't all that bad. "Don't apologize, the food here is really good. We get some free snacks just working here." she smiled as the girl wiped her face. She was cute, almost adorable, but it didn't matter what kind of person she was, for now, it was all work and no play. . . at least until her break was over. "I'm only part time. I was hired to help remodel the place, but we, well I finished my part faster than I thought I had to, and I got to clean as well." she told the girl, "My last day is sometime this month, depending on if they can hire other people." Perhaps she spoke too much, for someone who didn't talk at all. But maybe it just was how her life was. A passing conversation could last an entire day sometimes. It wasn't a place to really as the girl anything about her life. And even if she begun to spoke, Kasey wouldn't remember it, at least that's what she thought. ~ 252 ~

Chise still felt bad, making such a silly looking face just because she was enjoying the baked goods she had purchased. "...well, free snacks are better than nothing...and who doesn't love sweets? Well I suppose people can dislike sweets yet that just seems a bit silly. Everyone should like sweets, anything from a simple loaf of fresh bread to an elaborate Croquembouche is considered tasty..." Chise mumbled a little too loudly, hoping that she was just talking to herself. She didn't know why everyone didn't like sweets but she supposed to each their own.
Chise listened as the pinkette talked about his being only a part time job for her as of right now. "Did you help with the construction of the building as well as the remolding of the inside? I think that's really neat! Interior decorating always seemed like a fun job to have, although I would just want to make everything pastel colored," Chise said with a soft chuckle, hoping not to weird the other out too much. "Do you think you'll ask to continue working here or do you want to find somewhere else to work?" Chise asked before taking a small bite out of the slice of baklava she had purchased. Chise felt fireworks go off at tasting the sugary honey and nut mixture wrapped with filo dough...it was simply too good for words alone to describe. The pinkette seemed like an interesting person, perhaps someone who Chise could become friends with...even if they were a bit older than she was.

She seemed invested in sweets, and even had gone as far to talk to herself about the matter. Kasey didn't mind it, taking another wad from the mixed loaf ball she was given to consume. She would enjoy the pure bliss of the treat, before resuming the conversation. It was a strange one, to anyone else, but to Kasey, it was just another day in her life. None of her choices made sense, or seemed to really connect. She simply did, what needed to be done. "A lot, if not all of my part time jobs are up next month." Kasey would explain to her, even if it was useless information. "Trying to maintain a few, better jobs, rather than a dozen lesser paying ones. I mean end of the month I'll still be making around the same, but eh." she lifted another bite to her lips as she thought about what next to say. "I think I'ma work at that school. Read somewhere that they were hiring a janitor. I think I would do that." She smiled. It seemed like the perfect gig. Besides, she had just moved into a place that was close by, like really close by. That G fellow was a strange one, but his choices had benefited Kas in the long run. ~ 217 ~

Chise listened to the girl as she spoke, taking a small bite out of the fruit tart she had gotten, being careful not to drip any fruit or syrup for that matter...sweets could get really messy if one wasn't careful enough. Chise wiped her mouth before she spoke again, not wanting to seem rude in front of the pinkette, "Not to intrude or anything too personal for that matter, but are you having trouble finding a steady job to maintain or do you prefer to do small part time jobs instead?" the redhead asked, mentally debating on whether she had ask for a drink to go with her pastries or not. They were delicious, yes, but rich foods like these tend to leave you a bit parched.
The redhead wondered what other sorts of jobs the pink haired woman had alongside this one and how many part time jobs she would be loosing due to her time being up with them. Chise was a bit surprised when the other said he might work in a school, wondering if she meant one of the hero schools in the area or a smaller, non-hero based school. "A janitor hmm? Do you know if that would be a full time position or if it would be temporary as your other jobs were? What school was that for if you don't mind me asking?" Chise asked, curious to see if it was her school that the other was hinting at.

It was a simple question, and one with a simple answer. "I simply just don't like full-time jobs. Too much commitment. If you don't like it, you're stuck." it was her answer. She never accepted anything that didn't have an expiration date or a chance to leave it behind. She preferred a life where she could just vanish as she wanted with no strings attached. It was a life, that connected her to none, and she wanted it to stay that way. A second question was heading her way. Kasey already had the answer ready. "Yuuei." she answered. "Everyone is busy being a student or a teacher. It wouldn't matter if I take a full-time, or a part-time position. With a place like that, I could change jobs every month, and they would still benefit from me hopping around." She knew well enough that anyone could have been a student. None of them were well known yet, not even most of the heroes. Everyone had to make a name for themselves in this world. Even this lowly janitor. But that was something she would worry soon about. For now, she would finish what was on her plate, before taking up the next few jobs. It was a steady pace. With that to seal her income, the other lesser jobs she had would soon weed themselves out. ~ 225 ~

Chise understood the other's situation, everyone was entitled to their own opinions and views on certain things in life. The other felt that short term, part time jobs were more her style rather than having a full time job and Chise didn't think there was anything wrong with that. To each their own as her mother would always tell her. Chise closed her box of sweets for now, not wanting to eat them all right here and not be able to have any for later when she went home.
The redhead was surprised to hear that the rosette wanted to work at her high school…she didn't even know the school was looking to fill a janitor position. She would have thought that, being a new school and all, they would have had all the faculty they would need before even opening their doors for enrolment. Chise shook the small details off and focused her attention back on the other girl. "You really wouldn't mind working as a janitor? Not to say that being a janitor is bad but wouldn't you want to do something else?" Chise asked just a little curious as to why this girl, seemingly a bit older than her, would want to have an odd job like a janitor when she could be doing other things with her life. Chise softly smiled, "Is there any part time job you wouldn't do?" the redhead asked with a soft nervous chuckle, hoping she didn't make the other uncomfortable. Curse Chise and her on and off people skills.
