Another musty evening in Tokyo begins with the sounds of people as they speak of their private affairs and public nonsense. They talk to their kids, their wives, their boss, all about things that don't really matter in the bigger picture. As the moon begins to peer into the streets below, it finds me wandering through the alleyways. I spend a lot of time here these days, and on a Tuesday evening like this, there's nothing more relaxing than a quiet walk by yourself. Firmly planting my hands into my coat pockets, I stop at the nearest vending machine. Checking my wallet, I find that it's empty... I must've wasted all my cash when I took Crowley to the Cafe.
"God damn it."
I start to walk away when piercing through my ears, the screams of a child come. To the East? The West? I didn't know, but I wasn't just about to let a kid get hurt. I made a mad dash towards the sound, finding a couple grunts threatening a little girl.
"Now hand over the necklace, and you don't get hurt! You understand you piece of shit?"
He kicked the little girl down, and that's when I noticed her quirk. She was a mutant like myself, but with bird like legs and a beak. That's when I heard the second guy speak.
"God, I never got a good look at this kid before, but she's sickening. I almost want to beat the shit out of her for the hell of it. I never was much a fan of those mutant sons of bitches anyways, always muddling up the gene pool."
He grabbed a hold of her, preparing to strike.
"P... Pp-P-PP-PLEASE!! MISTER!! DON'T HURT ME!!"
The second grunt started to laugh, and he as he pulled his fist back, I gripped onto it. His head began to turn back as his laughter faded into utter horror.
"Could I borrow you for a second, pal?"
He screamed like a girl when I yanked him back towards my fist, colliding with his solar-plexus. The wind dispersed from his lungs in an instant as I kneed him in his jaw. Blood went spattering all along the brick walls and concrete of the unknown alleyway as I beat the thug within an inch of his life. A hook, a jab, a hook, a jab, finishing it off with an uppercut as he flies back into the wall. I grabbed him by the face and lifted him high above me.
"Allow me to make something clear to you, Ok Punk?"
I quickly thrust him down into the concrete, causing slight cracks to form around his body as he gently gasped for air. I stepped on his chest and pressed down as hard as I could to increase his pain.
"I am The Codfather. And this place? It's under my jurisdiction. So unless you'd like to go home in a body cast, I recommend you think twice before harassing little kids in my neighborhood. Capiche?"
The coward nodded his head in fear with as little strength as he had left, I took my foot off him and out of his mouth came the blood. The blood of justice being served. He slowly rose up, only to turn around and look at me in fear. He stood so still as if he thought that if he didn't move, I wouldn't see him.
"Go on... Scram asshole!"
The grunt ran away as fast as he could, disappearing into the night, hopefully to never be seen again. As for the other grunt, he ran as soon as he saw me grab his friend's fist. Really goes to show the lack of loyalty in this world, don't it? What a pity. I turned around and looked at the kid, she had cradled herself up into a ball during the whole ordeal. I walked over to her to try and get her to calm down.
"Hey... Kid. The bad men are gone now, you don't have to be scared anymore."
The kid refused to buckle, only murmuring to herself about the necklace. So, in order to get her to safety, I looked around and found someone who could call the police. They arrived at the scene, took the kid, and left. At the end of it all, I just stood there feeling like a dope... Did I just traumatize a child? But I was only trying to... keep her safe. For a second there I felt like I was alone... but I couldn't help but feel like there were eyes somewhere, fixated upon me. I didn't know why... I didn't know where... But I knew that whatever it was, it couldn't be good.

It had been a rather peaceful night thus far, a fact Goro was thankful for. He’d wanted a night to just try and practice longer flights with his battle suit, as the extra weight puts a significant strain on his wings just to lift off the ground. He’d sailed from rooftop to rooftop, mindful to keep out of the streetlights, and had, perhaps almost started enjoying it, when the peace was interrupted by the cry of a child.
Goro scowled beneath his helmet, irritated by the sound, and the scowl only intensified as his Quirk gave him a better view of the girl. She was a mutant. An animalistic one like him, at that. He stepped forward toward the edge of the rooftop, fully intending to get the drop on the two thugs harassing her, only to stop as a purple blur caught one of their fists.
A huge purple cat-man took one of the thugs down almost effortlessly, but the other ran off like a coward. His escape was short-lived, as the moment he left the alleyway Goro dropped, seemingly from the sky, landing right on the thug’s head. He leapt from his head as quickly as he’d landed, and swung his wing as he did into the thug’s back. The spikes on his wings, as blunt as they were, still left a few scrapes, and the weight of the wing itself knocked the man off his feet.
Once the adrenaline had worked itself from Goro’s body, he turned to face the kid, only to remember who’d made the thug run in the first place. The way the cat-man spoke, and the colour of his fur, reminded Goro of a particular user he was far from fond of in the villain chatroom. PurplePunisher, if he remembered correctly. He had no interest in confronting him right then and there, so he took off back to the rooftops without a word to the unruly grunt he’d beaten.
PurplePunisher, or the Codfather as he’d called himself, was far from someone Goro wanted to associate himself with, but he was also intrigued by him. Over the chatroom, he’d seemed like he was all talk, but the way he fought suggested something more. Someone who, foolish though he may be, may actually be a threat. Still up on the rooftop, Goro made the decision to follow Codfather for the moment.

I calmly began to walk away from the scene, hoping that if anything, whatever I felt would just go away. But instead, the uneasy feeling started ravenously filling up my mind. Maybe it was the other thug? He might've wanted to get to me for what I did to his partner. If so, I guess I could take him down with relative ease, but fighting makes me tired. So, in order to get my mind off of this feeling, I talked about my beat-down of the thug on the encrypted villains channel that I had been following for about a week now.
I waited a couple minutes, allowing myself to be intoxicated by the stuffy Tokyo air. Slowly, the oxygen filling my lungs began to spread throughout my body, and my wait was done. Someone had responded... with some less than pleasing statements.
As I read Oracle's message, I felt a knot tie in my stomach. Only someone so cruel would charge a child money for protection. Even if I beat that scumbag half to death, I'd never do something so disgustingly heartless. It's things like this that make me hate most common villains. No desire to do anything of benefit to anything, despite their incredible power.
I took my stance with it. Children don't deserve to be manipulated for money just because they're weak. It's because of their lack of strength that they should be protected in the first place. God, these people are damn animals... and that's coming from the giant purple cat man.
Bold statement as it maybe, I was going to make damn sure that it would be true. Once I have everything set, this whole place is going to be safe, no more little kids getting mugged, no more random murders, just peace. Peace that I have been vying for a long, long time. As I continued walking down the alleys, heading to a nearby convenience store, I decided to check the messages again. I felt stupid, but maybe... Just maybe someone in the chat agreed with my thought process. But instead of being pleased to see a message agreeing with me... I was horrified.
"Oh shit..."
That message came from the one who I simply refer to as RogueDevil, as I just found the name too god damn long for my tastes. Not this guy's biggest fan. I've already confirmed that he's a psychotic, with his hatred of the quirkless being something that directly goes against my interests of peace. If anything, he's an obstacle I would have to eliminate before he gets in the way later... minus the fact that he knows I interacted with 2 grunts... when I only specified one.
I started to look around. Was he below me, above me, hell was he right next to me?! I didn't know, but I needed to find out. First thing however, is that I needed to remain calm. If I started freaking out right now, he would most likely know that I'm aware of his presence... and would most likely kill me on the spot. I've threatened his life already, so I'm sure he wouldn't be too upset to follow up on that with an attack of his own. I awaited his next message.
This is what made it clear to me. I was being watched. The message felt too blatant to me, too dismissive of my question. So as I headed into the store, I messaged back, to hopefully ease Rogue from thinking that I knew he was there.
Once inside, I remembered that I lacked the funds to purchase anything there, possibly something that I could use to confirm my theory about Rogue following me.
"Hey, sir?"
"What can I do you for, mutant?"
The way the shopkeeper said mutant was a little stinging, but nothing I hadn't already gotten ten times worse back in the detention center.
"I was wondering if you carry a specific brand of uh... Cuban Cigars? You know the kind, right? El aliento del Gato?"
"Hmm? I think we just might. It's probably in the back, I'll go check. Don't do anything to my store while I'm back there, understand?"
I nodded my head to assure that I wouldn't touch anything, as he proceeded to walk into the storage room. Instead of obeying his instructions however, I went over to the cigar counter, and pulling my fist back, I prepared to shatter it.
"This might hurt a little."
I shattered the glass in one blow, and took an entire box of generic brand cigars. Shitty stuff, but I needed them for what I was about to do. Running out of the store, cigars in hand, I dashed into a nearby alleyway.
"HEY!!! WHAT THE HELL?!"
I heard the store owner yelling out as he noticed me running away. I caught a climpse of him lifting his phone to his head, and only one word came to my mind.
"Police."
Even then, the cops weren't even as remotely terrifying as the possibility of encountering another Villain right now. So, slinking into a dead end. I stood perfectly still, lighting up this garbage cigar in my mouth. The taste of the tobacco was sour and sickly, I wanted to vomit. But I took several deep breaths, and looked up at the moon, awaiting my next move.

The Codfather sauntered off, only to pause so quickly that Goro didn’t even need to move to another rooftop to keep a good view of him. As Codfather pulled out his phone, Goro brought out his tablet and waited. A few minutes later, his suspicions were confirmed, as new messages indeed popped into the villain chatroom. That cat-man was definitely PurplePunisher.
PurplePunisher: Well, I just beat the shit out of some guy who was trying to mug a little mutant girl.
PurplePunisher: I may not be pure hearted, but kids is where I draw the god damn limit.
PurplePunisher: Thugs these days.
Goro huffed under his mask, unimpressed. What was he trying to do, acting virtuous in a chatroom formed for villains such as them? Did he expect a pat on the back, a standing ovation from a crowd of lowlifes and killers, for doing something good? It wasn’t as if Goro disagreed with Purple’s actions, he rather appreciated that someone else was putting thugs like that in their place, but his attitude was annoying. For someone who talked so much about his hatred of vigilantes, he still seemed to carry the same thought processes as one.
The rest of the chatroom responded exactly as Goro had expected. Mockery, mostly, combined with warnings about Purple getting too big for his britches, but for some reason this pissed Goro off more than Purple’s own messages had. Even if Purple was a self-righteous fool, he was easier to stand than those who saw the title of villain as a simple excuse to do whatever they pleased for their own entertainment. They would never be convinced to do something worthwhile with their time, while someone like Purple who was already convinced their life should be spent doing ‘the right thing’ could at least be swayed eventually.
xxBlackOutRogueDevilxx: At the very least, we can agree there, Purple. Imbeciles like those two don't deserve any mercy.
The moment Goro hit send, he realised his mistake. Worse still, Purple had immediately picked up on it. Despite the helmet in the way, Goro motioned as if pushing his glasses back up and sighed.
PurplePunisher: Those... two?
PurplePunisher: How did you know there were two? I only mentioned one.
The cat-man’s paranoia was painted all over his face as his head turned this way and that, a couple times turning right toward the rooftop Goro had situated himself on but luckily never quite spotting him. He was glad that Purple was moving so slowly, or remaining hidden between rooftops would start proving difficult. An excuse came quickly to the bat, and he wasted no time at all replying.
xxBlackOutRogueDevilxx: Did you?
xxBlackOutRogueDevilxx: People like that usually come in groups. Too cowardly to act on their own.
xxBlackOutRogueDevilxx: So, I made an assumption. Big deal.
Unfortunately, Purple didn’t look convinced. He still seemed paranoid, glancing around for a few seconds more before heading off again toward a store. Goro waited until the cat’s attention was elsewhere before leaping onto the next rooftop, then he checked the chatroom once more. Purple had replied, pretending to accept Goro’s excuse, but his behaviour made it rather obvious the reality was anything but.
From his vantage point atop the roof, Goro could just barely see into the shop windows, only just making out the cat-man near the register. He watched as Purple seemed to chat politely with the shopkeeper for a few minutes, then tilted his head to one side as the shopkeeper left and Purple immediately took the opportunity to rob the place. Considering the counter he’d shattered, it was likely cigars he’d taken, but Goro was too far to actually make out what was in the cat-man’s arms. Even with the distance, Goro could hear the ear-splitting sound of glass breaking and the security alarm wailing in his mind. His ears hurt just thinking about it.
Purple slipped into a back alley, and Goro waited until he seemed to look away before leaping onto one of the surrounding buildings. He hadn’t a clue what Purple was planning, or if he had caught onto Goro’s actual location somehow, but there was no sense in exposing himself if that degree of uncertainty remained.

I took a deep puff from my cigar. It was either now or never, so I grabbed my lighter, placing that distinctive flame onto every single cigar that I stole.
"Now!"
I threw all of the cigars into the air, allowing light to flood into the alleyway. My enhanced vision combined with the added light allowed me to see the figure that was looming on the roof above. I knew it, I was being followed, and it was definitely RogueDevil... I mean the giant wings did look kind of demonic so I would be kind of right to assume.
"So, it is you! Isn't it, RogueDevil!"
I slowly began to back up into the wall, noticing a filled garbage bag lying on the ground. This would work as a possible weapon or a distraction so that I can possibly get Rogue off of my trail.
"Why are you following me? Are you interested in my endeavor, kid?"
Alright, I grabbed the bag, all I need to do now is keep talking so that I can get an opening. I hear sirens in the distance, I don't have much time to get this situated, but I need to try.
"Or was it because you saw me save that little girl?"
Wait a minute, if the other guard ran away... Could this possibly mean? Hmm... Maybe I should call that bluff while I'm at it.
"Or did we save that little girl. I never did see where that other thug ran off to... Maybe you're not as heartless as I thought."
I gave the largely winged figure a shit-eating smile. For a while I thought this guy was just a monster who hated all quirkless, but if he was willing to help save that little girl... Maybe he has some morals in him, somewhere.
"You know, if we villains used our powers properly... If we took control of it all, maybe all little girls like her would be safe from disrespectful grunts. Wouldn't that be a world worth living in?"
Nodding my head back and forth, as I heard the sirens get closer and closer, I decided to keep talking. I'll be honest, I'm more terrified of Rogue than I am a couple of cops.
"You have to think about it sometimes, I know you do. We all think about a world of peace, one where nobody has to fight, where the world is just right. Don't you think that a world like that deserves to exist?"
