372 WC | It had been only a few weeks since Chimera had gone from "nobody UA student" to "viral video star". The attention had scared him off from leaving campus--not simply for fear of being recognized, but for fear of being recognized by the wrong kind of people. For the most part his plan of staying on school grounds and never, ever leaving had been a success. However not all of his friends lived on campus. Darren and Levi, two of his band-mates and good friends, for example, both lived either out-of-campus or even out-of-town in Levi's case. He had been putting off seeing either of them. But since Levi dropped out, broke up with Maxi, and then the mess with Maximilian happening on top of everything else...well, he was worried about her.
So Chimera came out to Tokyo, severely under-dressed for the cold December weather in a black t-shirt, a pair of bright red jeans, and no boots or hat or gloves--his fur coat kept him perfectly warm. He was headed towards where they had agreed to meet up for a random crawl through Tokyo's marketplace.
If people were recognizing him, nobody was approaching him.
Good.
The shop they'd chosen to rendezvous at was more a cafe than a shop; one of those animal-themed places where you sat with cute and cuddly creatures while you ate. Only...this one had hedgehogs. Chimera stood at the window, leaning down to look at the little prickly, waddling beasts as they moved about in a little habitat meant to lure in customers. They were pretty cute and the cafe pretty busy. Maybe if the whole hero thing didn't work out he could open a goat cafe. Goats were probably a little harder to tend and manage, though.
I wonder how things would have been different if I was part hedgehog, too. Would I have spines? That's probably be good for combat. Not for hugging.
...then again, people like petting these guys.
Would I be able to live with the Sanic jokes, is the question.
While thinking these ridiculous little nonsense-thoughts, Chimera barely noticed that his friend and travel-buddy for the day was approaching.

Mutants targeted? How could she understand? Leviathan was a nobody. A girl with a simple quirk that was easy to hide. The only strange thing about her was her complexion. The only weird thing about her was seeing in gray-scale, but no one else knew that. At least, no one in her life anymore. Screens were already difficult enough for her, but thanks to new technology, she was able to see with a few fixes. She had planned this day with Chimera some time before, it wasn't just a spur of the moment thing. Levi had nothing but time. Studying, reading, watching videos online and playing any instrument that came into her house. It wasn't long until she heard of Semper Fi, as well as read who it really effected. Levi wore a simple outfit, one with a bit more color than normal. A lavender shirt with a skull printed on the front of it. Tight skinny blue jeans, and a red flannel coat wrapped around her waist. On her head was a black sun hat, with a blue ribbon wrapped around it. She never did coordinate colors, but why would she care? She walked down the street, with nothing but money and cards pressed on the inside of her tiny pockets, with a phone tucked in her breast. She could spot her fuzzy friend a mile away, but thankfully, it was just a block for her. her face was glowing, with a bright smile, and her iconic pale skin. Maybe it was just how her skin was, or maybe it was layers of white foundation. No one really knew, and no one dared ask. Levi waited for the street to clear before running and sneaking up to the boy. She reached out and patted him on the back. "Hey superstar!" she would say to him, "I guess selling our first album is gonna be a whole lot easier if you're famous, huh?" She would say to him, "You wanna go inside, or you wanna walk around?" Today, they were tourists. Neither born native to this country, they were both outsiders, one more than the other. ~ 356 ~

349 WC such a good person | Chimera had a claw tapping against the window when Levi came up behind him and gave him a quick pat on the back. He straightened back up to his full height with a small start before he turned around, looked down, and beamed. "Levi! Hey!" He was so happy to see her again after so long. Talking via a chatroom or even just texting was fine and dandy, but he'd missed seeing her around school grounds. It wasn't the same when he couldn't see all his friends through-out the day, especially since U.A was still such a small school overall.
His smile twitched, though, with her opening line. He groaned and rubbed the bridge of his muzzle with two fingers. "Uuuuugh, of course you saw it. Nobody hasn't. Yeah, yeah, look at me, the second most famous goat on the internet since the screaming goat meme." Chimera lowered his arm, tucking his hands into his pants pockets. "Who's going to buy an album featuring a kid who spent, like, six minutes crying on-camera. Unless we're going for the emo band thing," he smirked, flashing his sharp canines at Levi, "Which, hey, you're already dressed for it yourself. Now let's get Darren to dye his hair black."
Chimera looked back at the window to the cafe and all the cute little hedgehogs meandering about just past it, then shrugged his shoulders. "I'm not super hungry, yet. Maybe we go around for a bit and come back?...do you think I'll get a discount if I say I'm related to one of the hedgehogs?"
He started to walk towards the various shops lining Tokyo's shopping district, never going faster or slower than Levi herself. He wanted to keep chatting while they went, of course. "How've you been? I mean, I know we've been in touch, but. Like. You're staying with your sister now, right?" U.A's janitor was one of the more confusing staff members, but if she and Levi were related, then he was sure she was a good person. "Are you going to a new school?" |

Sometimes she forgot how tall he stood, counting his horns and all. He was a monster in that sense, but not because he was a goat, mostly because he was well... tall. Compared to others, she felt a bit average, but to him, even if only a few centimeters, it just made her feel small next to him. He was like a massive plusie that walked, talked and ate. Any maybe that was the reason she enjoyed spending time with him. It was like reliving a childhood she never had. After all, all she knew was working for Seki, and reading books alone in her room. "I'm pretty sure Motorhead cried too when their bassist died." She would say to him, "Plus, singing about the whole thing would be preeeety metal." Her thoughts were on the video, on the articles, on just, well, everything. It was hard to try and relate to it all. IF she was there, she would try to survive, to get out. But seeing her father's charred body, to have her ex reduced to a terrorist, kinda, nothing effected her anymore. She was a shell of who she used to be. She wasn't even sure if she knew how to smile right anymore. Her world was without color. Without color, everything was bland. It was living an old movie, all the time. What would be the difference to surround her with even more death? "Only if you bring proof, should we buy a bunch of onion rings first?" she asked him. As he started to make his way, she followed suit, keeping pace with him, looking at all of the shops to see what could offer the young boy. Levi didn't know that much of Japan, but she figured it was something to be fun after everything that happened. Point at a few piles of shit with faces, buy some body pillows, relate to an egg, it was gonna be fun. "Been fine. Kinda back to studying and reading at home." she would tell him, "School was never really my thing anyways. Though, living two floors above a nightclub is pretty insane, even if it's sound proofed. Pro heroes come in all the time, and even some famous vigilantes. Maybe I'll do that. I mean, we're all gonna stop crime, and maybe when you and Darren and the guys get your license too, I can get mine again." Levi smiled, looking and pointing at a small boutique. With it, a few of Japan's finest mascots in the window, wearing and holding some of the merchandise. "Oh, did you guys have Gutegama back in America?" She pointed at the eye with a weird sense of joy on her face. The egg was cracked and spilled onto the ground, saddened, or sobbing it seemed. All of the toys, bags and other things held a similar depiction of him. ~ 480 ~

397 WC | "...well, okay, you aren't wrong. About either of those things." Chimera huffed half-seriously, averting his gaze for a moment to look down at the sidewalk. It still felt like he had an open wound on his person, somewhere, just thinking about Semper Fi. Time had passed but it felt like it hadn't at the same time. People were still hurt. He still woke up to nightmares of gunshots, gripping the spot on his chest where he'd been hit. They were getting fewer and farther between, though. Maybe sooner or later he'd actually be able to think about it without it hurting somehow. Maybe...maybe a song would help, too. "Now if only I could actually write a song for shit. I could put lyrics to music, I guess?"
The streets of the Tokyo market were cold and fairly crowded, as they usually were, especially on a Sunday when school was out. Chimera didn't feel the cold but he did dodge people as he walked on instinct, avoiding any curious--or worse, recognizing--looks he might be getting in favor of just keeping his eyes on Levi or the passing shops. She told him a little more about where she was living and, yeah, it sounded pretty cool to live above a club like that. Was it a small place, though, with her sister's job? U.A had to pay well, right? Maybe?
She hadn't given up on being a hero, though. He wasn't thrilled to hear that she'd seen some well-known vigilantes at the club, but that she still wanted to get her license eased some worries. She wasn't about to run off and fight crime illegally. Yeah. That was good. "Hell yeah. I mean, how are we going to double as a hero team and a band if you're not a hero, too? Gotta keep up the image and all," he snickered, "Hey, if we get famous enough, do you think we could get villains to back down by offering them our autographs?"
'Guta-who?" Chimera looked up from Levi to where she was pointing. He was met with...an egg with a face. Or, well, an egg yolk with a face. Why, though. Chimera's brow scrunched up in perplexity. "No, we...why does it look so sad. Why. Who hurt this strange...naked egg alien baby. And why is it naked."
Japan, why. |

The thoughts of her father burning alive in that building, haunted her. But she knew he didn't suffer. He was someone who created the perfect situations. He died, because he wanted to die. But like everything else in her life, it left without a good bye. There was no final words. Only the cold feeling of loneliness. He was gone, and she did not feel sad, only alone. She knew there was only one person he would even remotely allow to end his life, along with her sisters. She could never find the strength to ask her why she did it, why she killed them, but the memories of her parents, long forgotten, was enough for her to sleep at night. She remembered who she really was, and she wasn't sure if to thank the man for dying, or curse him for dying so soon. She just wanted to hear his voice, one last time... Lost in her mind, she completely skipped past his words as they wandered Tokyo, only to judge one of the many strange icons. "I've heard Red Horn has done it before, Army of One too. Though, I think the whole vomiting spiders thing, might have been a factor for her." Mutants like that gave her the heeby jeebies. But she was a nice woman. She was around the Pink Jackal too, watching over some of the vigilantes and their missions and tasks. She was there to make sure no one got into too much trouble. They were her extra set of eyes and hands, but not like she really needed more eyes, OR hands for that matter. Every little bit helps, she assumed. "i think he suffers some clinical depression. I think it might be the mother, either before or after her children got eaten, or it might be the child after the mo got eaten. Not really sure which is which, to be completely honest." she would say, "Welcome to Japan. The only thing more questionable is probably Korean horror stories." she would say, taking a step away from the stop to keep making her way down the streets to head towards more stores. There wasn't much to talk about for the egg, but if he wanted to continue, they could, while finding something more interesting. "Like hat one bedtime story about the hard boiled egg. Now that gave me nightmares.""Huh. nightmares. My parents told me that story?" She wondered to herself. The more things made sense, the less they really did. ~ 419 ~

415 WC | The mention of one of the fairly popular mutant Quirk heroes in the area perked Chimera's ears. While Serperior was and always would be his favorite--despite the fact that the man now worked for the damn school, he should probably mention that to Levi at some point today--he also looked to heroes like Army of One, Yellow Jacket, and Blue Agate for their places among Japan's top crime-fighters. He hoped they would inspire mundanes to be more accepting of people like him. At the same time, two out of four of the mutants mentioned were rather intimidating, one was only recently a hero, and the fourth...actually, he knew very little about Yellow Jacket, despite her being a teacher. There wasn't a lot of information about her online. Everyone at school seemed to like her, though, and said she was really nice for a giant bee.
So there was that.
Chimera stayed staring at the various bits of "sad egg" merchandise and, mixed with his current line of thinking, began to question just why it was taking so long for Japan to accept mutation Quirks when they had shit like this for sale. It even had a tragic backstory. Huh, maybe that was why he had gotten so popular; he looked like a mascot and had the personality of one. Yay.
"I don't know that one, but I also don't do horror that much," he picked up the conversation as he tore himself away from staring at weirdly defined egg butts, shaking the mental image from his head. "America doesn't do, like, good horror very well. Everything is a slasher flick. Which as a blood-sensitive person is not the most enjoyable experience." Another weird shop not too far from the last went past them, this time a cafe with maids in front of it. He averted his eyes back to Levi immediately. Nope. That was one of those things he knew existed in Japan but could never wrap his head around. "I, uh, I guess I never asked...are you from Korea? Your name kinda threw me off."
Her sister is named Kasey, too. One English name, one...biblical? Did their parents have strange taste in names, or were those their birth names...?
...he didn't want to ask. Not right now, knowing what had happened to them.
Only one of us having PTSD flashbacks at a time, please.
"Then again mine's a monster from Greek mythology so what do I know." |

It was weird, to think about how long anime had been around, and how little time quirks were. It was living a real life anime, or a comic. Super heroes and villain around ever corner. Everyone had powers now, be it something crazy powerful, or something as simple as, well drugging someone with your touch. "My quirk is so fucking lame..." she thought to herself. It was better than nothing, and at least she didn't really have a weakness, that was, except for being colorblind. To only see colors when she used her quirk, seemed like a small cost compared to the others. It wasn't like Chimera was able to turn off his fluffy coat, or his horns. The emitters were the lucky ones. She would always remember that. "Yeah, my parents were from Korea. They came here as refugees." She would say, looking at the mod cafe, wondering if he was hungry yet. Or was he looking away for other reasons? "I was a kid then, I didn't remember my name. So my mentor called me Leviathan, because of my quirk unlocking floodgates or whatever. My birth name is Ayase, though I don't think that means anything anymore." She smiled, pointing over at the Maid Cafe, "You wanna check out the maid cafe? Or are you more of a Host Club type of guy? I won't tell anyone." She said it with a cheeky smile. It was a harmless joke, but the more she thought about him being Satan Mercury, the more she started to wonder... ~ 257 ~

509 WC | Refugees, huh. Chimera would admit that he didn't pay very much attention to the state of the world at large, especially places he had never been. America was too large for a child to keep up with everything happening everywhere, England was small enough but he had been more focused on regrowing a family, and now Japan...Japan was full of problems right now. Things like hero schools and Semper Fi and rumors of villains that wanted to overthrow mundanes. Nothing felt safe right now. So he couldn't imagine wanted to escape to here, unless it was something far, far worse. Did he want to do research as to what was going on in Korea? In his current mental state...?
Distraction was a godsend. "Ayase. Hmm..." he placed his paw under his chin, holding it in an exaggerated expression of deep thought, "You realize that had you kept that name, people would have started calling you 'Yaaaaas', or something like that? I think Leviathan is saving you a whole lot of pain. That," he lowered his hand and grinned down at her, eyes bright, "And it means our names match! The leviathan is a sea monster and chimeras are, like, crazy Greek monsters, so there we go. Now we just need stage names for Darren and whoever else joins that fit. Are there any mythological creatures that are super strong and walking danger magnets? Or maybe are just really cocky?"
Although he was Darren's friend, let it never be said that Chimera couldn't see the flaws his friends possessed. Darren was always getting into trouble. Like a taller, stronger, and somehow crazier Yojin. Maybe it was a blonde thing.
His smile slipped into a grimace at Levi's next joke about the maid cafe. Or, rather, about finding a host cafe instead. "Aurgh, I'm not even..." Chimera cut himself off with a small grunt and jerked his head away, stuffing his paws into his pockets, "It's just creepy, alright? Having a girl or a guy treating you like they're your servants while dressed like that. I don't know how Rin does it. Like. America has bars where guys go to leer at the female servers, too. Ever heard of 'Hoowlers'? They only hire girls with...erh," his muzzle felt way too hot, even for all the fur on it, and he pulled his hands back from his pockets long enough to try and make the right gesture without looking like a massive pervert or an idiot. When he failed he went for a nerd reference instead, "...huge tracks of land. And. It's considered creepy to go there, even if you're just there for the food. Nobody believes you. So. They just weird me out."
Of all the people in the world, Levi would be the last to judge. He knew that.
But he still couldn't say it.
"I'd rather eat somewhere with a cat trying to steal my food or something. Or a snake or a hedgehog or an owl or, uh, any of the dozens of animal cafes here." |

"My sisters used to call me Aya sometimes. I thought it was Japanese for something, turns out they knew my name before I did." She would quickly spill the fact, without thinking much of it. Her mind would have lingered on all of their slit throats and charred remains, if it wasn't for the fact that her only real friend, had also taken up a new name, and one from myth as well. "Minotaur." She would answer him in regards to Darren's new name. "He's dumb enough to want to be a beast despite all of them being basically mentally unavailable." Another case of Levi throwing shade at a boy who asked far too much of a stranger. Someone who wanted to be famous, but could never have enough brainpower to learn an instrument correctly. "Huge boobs. I know." she would say, speaking up while he thought of a more simple way to say it. She saw the competitions of the servers seeing who was the best. Was a weird Vicky's Secret type of deal, but fetishized to waitresses. But it wasn't like it was against their will. They could have worked a normal job, but they chose to work there, to be a servant of people's eyes, much like the waiters and waitresses of the maid and host cafes. "I think they wanna be a servant. They probably get off on it more than the customers do. . . and with that in mind I don't think I wanna stare at men in suits anymore." Upon his other idea of an anime cafe, Levi tried to think or one that could entertain them both, and wasn't somehow racist or awkward to her friend. Although... "There's a Tanuki one like a block or so from here." she would say, lifting her hand to point in the general direction. "Or we can look for a goat one, you can take off your shirt and see how long until they realize you're human and not one of the animals. . . I mean, unless you would rather spend money than save it." She would smile, and playfully nudge her friend. "I'm totally joking... unless you wanna do that, then I am so fuckin' down to do that."~ 365 ~

436 WC y u all want nude goat | Chimera snorted at Levi's less than flattering description of their mutual friend and technical leader of their band. Oof, calling him an idiot would be nice in compared to calling him a brainless beast. Darren could be smart! Sometimes. It usually just had to do with things he was interested in. "Hey, I'm not the smartest person in the band either. I spent, like, six minutes trying to remember anything about Quirk biology when I met your sister. And that was on Friday. Y'know, when biology was literally the last class I was in. Brain could not remember a thing." He pressed his tongue against the corner of his mouth and pouted slightly--it was funny seeing him pout, given his long snout and muzzle, but somehow it still worked. "...though maybe that says more about my memory than my intelligence. Thanks head trauma."
Slamming a plate of solid metal into his skull had probably not done great things for his brain. At least there hadn't been internal bleeding. Hindsight!
It was still better than the alternative.
He shuddered from his skull to his tail. Ew. He didn't need to think about waiters and waitresses getting off on people treating them like servants any more than he wanted to think about customers leering at said waiters and waitresses for being dressed like, well, a fetish. Chimera wasn't prudish but there were some things that shouldn't just be part of public knowledge. Like maid cafes or host clubs or anything along those lines. At least Levi wasn't interested in going to one--thank GOD--and instead she mentioned a few animal cafes in the area. He could go for something to eat. Her idea, though...
"You don't think they'd notice that one of their goats was suddenly bipedal and sitting in a chair? And wearing pants?" Chimera smirked, taking her nudge before meeting it with a light poke of his claw to her shoulder, "Is this really about saving money, or is it just an evil scheme to get me shirtless?"
He didn't even think about the implications of that sentence until it was out there, and like he'd been slapped in the face, Chimera straightened up and pulled his hand back to himself, the very tip of his nose--where his fur was the thinnest--tinted ever so slightly redder beneath his white hair. "I mean. Uh. That was a joke. Please. Don't take that seriously, or badly. Because we're friends, and you're getting over a shitty break-up, and I don't want you to feel uncomfortable because I said something really stupid. Sorry. Again."
Smooth. |

Sometimes it took a while for the brain to process info, and in front of Kasey, even more so. Everything she did and was, defied logic in some way. Still, Levi couldn't find her explanation for why, or how her quirk worked. Was it based on calcium? Then drinking milk would have helped right? But she didn't. It was like her quirk was fueled on booze and stalking Levi to make sure she wasn't setting something else on fire. Which, to be frank, was far more often than Levi wanted to admit. Even for a girl who lost everything to a fire. But perhaps that was what enticed her. Levi didn't really think about things in a way that the average girl should have. Her view was skewed, maybe even more than some comic book cannibal who killed people for good things. Ha, what a story that would be. But trying to get her friend to pose as a domesticated animal to get some free food. Was it the rebel in her, or was she just as mad as her sibling? "I mean, who said you would sit in a chair?" Perhaps it was a different side of her showing, one that was better locked away behind closed doors. ". . . I won't confirm, or deny your speculation." She would say back to him, and for once, she didn't really know the answer. Was it just to goof around, was she trying to get her friend to do dumb things, or was it just more than that? It wasn't long after until he stood up erect, an seemed to correct himself, backtracking. "I told you, I'm over it." she would say with a smile, her mind lingering on the image of her charcoal father. "You kinda get used to the feeling after a while. Besides, we're chillin together. I ain't got time to be down, when I'm up~!"~ 310 ~

308 WC who's cutting onions? | "So you want me to be sitting on the floor?...I'm not sure if I'd be more embarrassed about it being obvious that I'm not a goat, or mortified that they'd buy it." Chimera looked straight ahead for a little while, a mock thousand-yard-stare at the thought of the cafe workers genuinely mistaking him for one of their pet goats. Would that be racist? But he'd be the one trying to use that similarity to mess with them, or to get free food. So no? Yes? Maybe?
Was he overthinking this to avoid the awkwardness of what he'd just said?
Absolutely.
Levi didn't seem nearly as bothered by it though. His shoulders slacked a little. However his relief was short-lived as she continued talking, and his brow furrowed together under his fur. "That's...what feeling, exactly? Because there's a few you shouldn't get used to..." he mumbled, stride breaking for a second as he placed a paw on her shoulder--it completely covered said shoulder thanks to how comically large it was--to stop her, too. Concern was clear in his eyes even though he was still smiling. "I'm not gonna tell you to not be happy around me, 'cause that's awesome, but being serious for a sec? If you want to talk or get anything off your chest I am a hundred percent here for you. And I'm told I make a very good pillow to cry into. Or just to hug."
The awkwardness from before had left him surprisingly fast for how he usually was. Was it just because he was worried for Levi? Yes. He could put aside any dumb embarrassing thoughts for her. She was his friend. No matter what she needed, hugs or talking or anything, he'd give her until she felt better.
That was just how Chimera was wired.

Maybe it was the lack of parenting, or actually remembering her true history had made her so cold. Or maybe it was the frozen heart that had deceived her not that long ago. Was it her guardian who obviously had a hand with villains to make his living? Levi was numb to the world, for better or worse. It was nothing to her, and that was the problem. Nothing seemed to hurt her. She had to be strong. She never let herself cry. Not now. Not ever again. The hand placed on her should pushed her to her limit, but still she did not bend or break. She knew he cared, but that was not enough to get her tears to flow. She may have been honest with him, but never would she ever let anyone see her in pain again. "Everyone is going to break your heart eventually." Levi told him, "Sometimes on purpose, by sleeping with someone else. Other times by accident, by breaking your rare collectible." She forgave everyone, and everything. But it did not mean she had ever forgotten. "Right now, I just wanna enjoy my time with you." She would say, a smile still on her face. Her eyes dry, refusing to cry. "Don't marsh my mellow." She would say in English, her first attempt at speaking those words outside of her own home. "Don't worry, I kinda vent at this one guy at home, he's a good listener... when he's not talking."~ 252 ~

328 WC you damn kuudere | Chimera kept his paw on Levi's shoulder to give a small, reassuring squeeze as she gave him a line somewhere between humorously cliche and unfortunately sincere. She couldn't believe that everyone would hurt her somehow, right? Maximilian wasn't every man she'd fall in love with, and not everyone was so careless as to do something less terrible like breaking something important to her. Did she think even Chimera would do something to hurt her someday? He'd never do something like that...well, not on purpose, like she said. Accidents happened. Most people who really cared went out of their way to avoid those accidents, or to make up for them tenfold. But maybe that was just him. Chimera sighed, a soft smile still on his muzzle.
"If you say so, Levi. I'm still available for listening with my mouth shut if you want it. But since you just want fun...well, I have no idea what the heck a tanuki is, so if you're not too disappointed by me keeping my shirt on, want to have lunch there?" He dropped his hand from her shoulder to slide into her pocket, grin growing in size and in warmth. If she said she was alright--even if she wasn't--then he'd let the day go on as planned. Silliness over sympathy. It didn't feel a hundred percent like the right thing to do but it was what she wanted. Why were all of the people close to him so cagey about themselves?
She wasn't as bad as Yojin, but there were definitely similarities to them.
"By the way, you never told me you spoke English. Could have said something. I've been embarrassing myself with shitty Japanese this whole time for nothing! Or were you going to let me look like an idiot forever." He started walking in the direction she'd pointed to before, keeping his eyes on her no matter what ridiculous merchandise there was to see in the windows.
