Sometimes the only pay-off for having any faith Is when it's tested again and again everyday I'm still comparing your past to my future It might be your wound but they're my sutures Two days after the events of Semper fi, there was only one reason why Naoru was still within the bounds of Tokyo Hospital – his sedatives were good enough to calm him into a content state where he wasn’t panicking about the doctors and the constant nightmares. Naoru woke up in a hospital room alone, and being as dazed as he was, the doctors had the chance to inform him of his status before he made a run for it. It quickly became obvious that his body didn’t sustain as much damage as the medical staff originally thought. His minor cuts almost completely healed overnight thanks to his regenerative ability. The bite mark on his ankle was swollen, but the skin didn’t rip, so he only got a salve to lessen the swelling, and was lightly bandaged. They expected the bloodshot skin to heal in another two days as well. The biggest issue was the long cut across his back right from his tailbone to his shoulder. He got a medical patch for that, stitches to the parts where the flesh opened too wide for comfort due to the constant movements, and then they told him to preferably lie on his stomach or side for the next days. What he expected, and the doctor worried about most was the damage dealt to his psyche. Details concerning the opponent he fought with was spreading in the media, and it reached the hospital as well, even if those details weren’t exact. The doctors already had a medical record on Naoru’s psychiatric evaluation, so he knew what to expect even if he didn’t face an opponent that could crawl into the mind of others to turn them into brainless drones. They found the use of certain sedatives to do the work for now. His biggest concern was, however, his still healing quirk. He wore his long-sleeved button-up shirt only halfway on, tucking his right arm into the sleeve, but leaving his left one empty. His Aura couldn’t quite reassemble itself yet. Under his left shoulder, there was only a stub, and a really light, white tingle, a nearly invisible outline of his arm where his Aura was ready to fill out his missing arm for him. Looking at the outline, the white threads, Naoru liked to think that nerves within the body must look like this when they aren’t condensed into a solid form of pure sensations. Although he tried, he wasn’t yet able to push his Aura through his skin yet either. It was the aftereffect of overworking it with stress and fear. It was the effect of another mind trying to control and shatter the quirker. Naoru supposed it was something that could happen from time to time. Wasn’t a first, certainly wasn’t a last. If only he was able to continue this healing business in his own dorm room, or even in the infirmary, that would be just peachy. The school staff did check up on him, and reassured him that he could return to the dorms as soon as the doctor saw the time to be fit. Rubbing the bridge of his nose, he closed the news app he was reading on his phone. Maybe it is better he doesn’t read anything on the happenings of Semper fi while he was under the influence of medications. He idly rubbed his eyes as well, free to do so now that he didn’t have any kind of contact lenses in. He lost a half within the military base, and because the doctors were worried about damage to his eyeball, they advised against using contacts for a few weeks. Just great. He wasn’t looking forward to the explanations he has to give to people about why he has devil eyes for a change. Telling them he was controlled by another quirker and hence he gained them as a side-effect left a bad taste with him. Not to mention it was a lie. Just like many of the news spreading like wildfire. With a huff, he stood from the hospital bed and walked over to the table under the window to pour himself a cup of water. He wasn’t looking forward to anything concerning the aftermath. And he especially wasn’t looking forward to seeing a tiny girl’s mutilated body within his nightmares for weeks. He idly scratched the back of his head as if out of habit, touching the now visible feathers under his hairline on his scalp. MADE BY VEL OF GS

WORD COUNT: TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy "Thank goodness, I was worried you'd be in much worse condition, Kehai-kun." Rin's soft voice suddenly spoke. There had been practically no sound emitted from the raven haired female. No moving of the door, no heavy steps. Gentle, graceful, just like he had always known her. For this was not the first time the two of them had met under these circumstances. While a young girl, going to middle school, Rin had encountered a boy that, in many ways, seemed to be just like herself. A boy which seemed more sheltered than the rest, more withdrawn from the world, like he was hiding something. Perhaps calling the two of them friends was a bit of a stretch, at least early on. It had mostly been Rin approaching him, talking to him, despite how little he seemed to enjoy her company. Often times they could sit there in silence, hardly even speaking. It was perhaps, to many, a little awkward, but it helped quell the loneliness Rin had been feeling deep inside. At least, Naoru Kehai had not been chasing her off every chance he got. Later on, Rin had learned that, just like herself, he was hiding information in regards to his quirk. Things that he seemed ashamed of, almost. The way the girl had learned, also wasn't the most fortunate. The Kehai family had had an unfortunate time, to say the least...Initially, Rin had not known. The girl had always been coming by Tokyo Hospital to donate blood - a request from her doctor, since her blood had very unique properties, that seemingly bypassed all donor and receiver problems that doctors had faced with the ever growing quirk population. While donating blood in spades, Rin also took the opportunity to walk around in the children's wing of the hospital, where she had become quite a known face over time. Since going home to her father was the last thing she wanted to do, coming here had been a blessing, not only to the children she visited but also to her own psyche. Almost all of Rin's social interactions had taken place inside these hospital walls. That is, up until she had started her time at Yuuei. One day, a day like any other as far as Rin was concerned, she had found him in one of the beds. Naoru-kun... Something had gripped her, seeing him frustrated. Frustrated at the fate life had bestowed upon him, perhaps. Frustratedly struggling to utilize his new arm - an arm created entirely from his quirk, if Rin was to guess. Since he had been there for her, when she needed a little pick me up, Rin had made a decision to be there for him too. Whether he wanted assistance or not, as long as he needed assistance she could deal with a poor mood.So she had come by daily. Bringing different games that they could play, while being incredibly patient with Naoru's new hand. Chess, Shogi and other board games that the hospital had available. Especially card games seemed troublesome for Naoru-kun to handle initially. Slippery pieces of paper often dropped to the floor. Consistently disallowing him from playing the games with his regular hand, she was even pressuring him to eat with his hand of aura, assisting him, little by little, to utilize his new hand as if it was the arm he had been born with. Reading up his homework for him, making sure he kept up with school, Rin had been incredibly insistent on not letting him lack behind in anything. Now the two of them had been reunited at practically the same place, after hardly having spoken together during their times at Yuuei."I brought you some homemade chocolates. Figured you might need a bit of energy to get you back up!... After everything that happened, I mean... I also sprinkled them with coconut. They're said to help with the mood, if you've been feeling foul." A warm, gentle smile reached Naoru from the girl, as she stepped properly into his room and placed the small box of chocolates next to his bed. "I spoke a bit with the staff. I don't think you'll be staying here long. It's just... they're not really sure what the exposure could've done to your brain." Rin, as graceful as she was in moving herself around, equally as untactful or awkward could she be in conversations. Perhaps not the best way of putting it, but, at least he'd never question her honesty. "..If you're worried, I'd not mind giving you a proper checkup either. I've gotten quite good at it, if I am to say so myself." Rin mused softly. "We really should get better at meeting outside of hospital, though."

Sometimes the only pay-off for having any faith Is when it's tested again and again everyday I'm still comparing your past to my future It might be your wound but they're my sutures “Rin-san.” He said in surprise when he recognized the person standing just at the door to his hospital room. His smile grew fond and quiet when he welcomed an old friend. “I heal fast, luckily.” He added nearly as an afterthought just to keep the conversation going, and making sure she knew he appreciated her relieved words. He picked up the glass of water he just poured himself and turned toward her, leaning his body against the table behind him slightly. His left arm, or its lack thereof was hidden under his button-up shirt, just like any other injury he had. He was watching her for a few moments as she approached before he remembered he was not wearing his contact lenses, and hence decided it would be more polite to look away. Even if she would never admit it, even if she would reassure him it was okay, no one appreciated being looked at by the pair of eyes he had. So he hung his head just enough to have his fringe fall into his eyes when he hid himself behind the glass of water as he drank. They have known each other for years now, even though their meetings were scarce ever since they started attending the hero school. What was first awkward and tolerated, had quickly grew to be a welcomed comfort, a needed serenity in Naoru’s life. He never knew why Rin was so adamant on spending time with him in middle school. As far as he knew, she might have only gone to him because there was no one else to spend time with, because he was a form of last resort. Even now, he didn’t know what drove her back then, but this form of unknown was okay by now. Back then, he never dared to ask, and now, he didn’t feel the need to. Back then, Naoru let the girl do as she pleased, and now he was happy she still remembered to check up on him. She was the only one among his friends who knew him with a matching pair of arms, and one of the few that saw him first with his Aura out, forming a new limb in place of a lost one. Anger, despair and frustration were the common emotions in him when he remembered why he lost his arm, when he remembered another person lying unconscious one floor above him, when he remembered his dominant arm will never be the same as before. When he dropped his chopsticks one time, and purposefully threw them at the wall the next, she was there to pick them up, wash them quickly and give them back to him. She was there even when he was frustrated by his own inability to cope, his slow pace of learning, and he was ever grateful for her for that. There was a moment of pause in his movements when she mentioned he had to get his energy back after what happened. After putting the glass back on the table, he stepped away, and back toward the bed. “Thank you so much, Rin-san. You should not have bothered.” It was reflexive politeness, even though he knew there was no need for it, not with Rin. But it was something he was used to, it was a kind of shell, it was something that told others they didn’t need to go out of their way for him. “Shall we try it? Please, do make yourself comfortable.” Sitting back on the bed from the opposite side where Rin was standing, he reached for the box she placed nearby. There was a chair by the wall put there for the visitors, but she could chose to sit on the other end of the bed, opposite of where Naoru was sitting cross legged by the pillow. He fiddled with the box with his right hand while listening to her, making himself busy, and making sure his eyes were somewhere else, where they wouldn’t stray toward her accidentally. “They have told me too, yes. I did not sustain many injuries, but what happened there was...” a momentary pause, his eyes glassed over for the fragment of a second, then continued as if nothing happened. “In any case, I would definitely feel more at ease if someone I know was doing the checkup.” He smiled, honest and wide. “Does that mean you are getting better in your medical knowledge in all fields? I am quite interested in what you have learned, actually.” Yet again, there was a pause, his mind trailing toward more mundane things this time. He pulled his shoulders in just a little. “And... you are right. Please, let me apologize for not seeking you out at school. I am sure you were rather busy with studies and other things, but still, I have no excuse. Before any kind of check-up, would you mind telling me about, um, your class maybe? Did you make many friends?” She must have. She did not seek him out for a little quiet time anymore, so she must have found friends, right? She must have people to rely on now. “There are only so many things I could learn from the chatrooms.” I miss talking to you... He didn’t say it out loud, but maybe it was obvious from his quiet, lonely smile. For some reason, he couldn’t yet open the box of chocolate he got. If he took his time with it on purpose, or there was some other reason, it wasn’t obvious. MADE BY VEL OF GS
