At some point in time, there is a problem every adult has come to face. For some it is a problem they encounter even before adulthood, and for others, it was a problem they might face much later, but it was a problem everyone at some point had to endure, and today was the day Yuriko was about to come to encounter that problem.
Quietly she was seated on the chair in front of her parents. Her father was seated at the other side of the table, a frown upon his visage while her mother looked worriedly at him. "Say Yuriko..." he began, making the young lady tilt her head slightly to the side in confusion. "Yes Otou-san?" She should have guessed it already, the way she was called here, the fact a large suitcase was resting against the wall and the worried look upon her mother's face, the clues all had evidently pointed toward the encroaching storm, but she had remained oblivious to it till it was too late. "How old are you now?" What a silly question, surely her father must had known how old she was, right?! "Twenty, why do you ask?" The man nodded his head lightly in affirmation, a hand raised to his chin while he started to stroke his beard lightly. "Hmm twenty... and not once did you have to pay any rent for your accommodation, right?" Indeed, not once did she have to worry about paying her parents to stay with them, everything had always been supplied to her on a silver plate. Food, luxury, warm water, a bed.... "Mhmm~ Not a yen has been ever been paid for it~" But it seemed that even as oblivious as she had been, the approaching storm could no longer be ignored. "Fifty-two thousand yen, 52,000"
Yuriko nodded her head along, humming softly. "That's about four hundred euro, and about four hundred and fifty-four dollars I guess?" Her father nodded in agreement as he spoke firmly. "And that is going to be your rent from today onwards." Nodding her head a few times in acknowledgment Yuriko mused quietly. "So my rent is---- WAIT A MOMENT?!" the girl began, her hands banging onto the table as she rose upright, her scaled tail swaying lightly back and forth amidst her specially tailored clothes she was wearing. "I don't even have a job! How do you expect me to pay a rent?!" The man sighed softly as if he had expected this to happen. "How do you expect to inherit our family business someday if you can't even get a proper job Yuriko. Use those skills of yours to make the money you need."
Yuriko couldn't help but feel as if the storm had turned into a freaking hurricane that was threatening to pull her off the ground. "Uuuh, what about the Dragon's Den?" Yet her father shook his head lightly in return. "That's volunteer work." Wow, that was one hell of a bullshit reason even if she did say so herself. "And Pro-" Yet her father quickly silenced her. "If you do that I'm disowning you."
And then the hurricane turned into an apocalypse as the dragon girl found herself pulling her suitcase along the streets of Tokyo, mumbling in annoyance. "There are better ways to teach your daughter life lessons than kicking her onto the street..." And of course the weather didn't seem to do much to improve her mood either, as a gust of wind blew a newspaper straight into her face. "Begone, or I'll scorch you..." the girl mumbled, a huff and a spark of embers being lit inside her mouth when suddenly she spotted an article, both hands grasping a hold of it and the letters making her eyes widen in surprise.
That was it! The ray of hope she needed in this mess! If there was one thing she was good at! Then it was household chores! Besides, didn't that pro-hero told her she could visit her office someday if she wanted work? Of course, the choice was made rather quickly as she started to haul her suitcase along into the direction of Red Horn her office.
This was the golden opportunity she needed, a way to get money, maybe even a place to stay at! In the end, weren't most maids in movies or manga and anime the live-in type? She could already feel her mood improving, her tail swaying more excitedly as she crossed the street, still holding the newspaper in her hands. There was no doubt about it, this was a sign! A sign that she and Red Horn were meant to meet that day! A destined meeting which would lead her to become Tokyo's first dragon maid! Or at the very least ensure that she'd be off the streets...
Actually, how much did a maid even earn? It wasn't like she had ever bothered wondering about that, so perhaps she should be doing some research first? Where could she even ask how much a maid earned? Perhaps visit a maid café? Wait, those type of maids weren't exactly the same type that did household chores! Most girls could look cute and go 'tee-hee~' pour some heart-shaped ketchup on your omelets and make cute poses... A REAL MAID COULD ALSO DO HOUSEHOLD CHORES!
Fortunately, it didn't take long for the dragon girl to arrive at her location, and with her typical enthusiasm, the girl entered the building, even dressed properly for the occasion!
"This is Hasegawa Yuriko! Here for the job of maid at Red Horn's office!" She announced confidently, her tail swaying lightly behind her as she had that look of determination in her eyes that made it clear that this was a do or die situation: she was going to get this job or die trying! Or rather, end up as a homeless bum if she didn't get it...
