I'm only a social creature when sugar is involved. .
Mikhail swallowed his words faster than Hachi had ever seen another person do so--fast enough that her downcast tone turned into a bemused chuckle. He hadn't meant to hurt her feelings. It wasn't like Hachi was the sort to tell people what bothered her ahead of time. More often than not she was very blunt when somebody did tread on her, but Mikhail...it hadn't been intentional. She was alright accepting his apology. Except instead of an apology she found herself with a pair of cool hands on her body trying to re-position her.
"Um."
Hachi could only blink, her blank expression for once fitting what she was feeling. It was like being shown a proper fighting stance but with social implications. Or something like that. She didn't try to fight any of Mikhail's "posing" until he slithered back. She looked down at herself, and without another sound, squared her hips again before she met his eyes again. "You're forgetting, Orlov-san, that this is not my costume. It's just one for Halloween. I...don't really need to fit it," the soft tone of voice may have been the lingering confusion or something else, but as a smile smile curled onto her lips her voice became lighter again. Teasing. "I'm afraid I can't 'pop' one of my hips while hovering. Still, thank you for your...help. And next time, could you ask before placing your hands on my thorax?"
What a very, very odd person he was, but he had good-intentions, if not confusing ones. As he and Emi returned to their discussion on vlogs and the like she quietly returned her posture to what she'd had before. Though she did keep her head up just slightly.
Wait, how did he reach my chin, she realized, looking down at him, He isn't as tall as me...did he use his tail?
Questions for later.
Hachi chuckled at Emi's attempt at innocence. "I can think of at least one who is here tonight. Tanaka Junko-san, or Blue Agate. She is another one of the UA teachers. Make sure not to get on her bad side. She has a short temper, and a long reach. Do you best to show good behavior in her presence." Was it in poor taste to warn a student of another teacher? Maybe. But Emi had made a point; this party was a good opportunity for heroes and students to get to know one another better. She was helping Emi and Mikhail not to anger Junko's in their very first interaction.
'Warning' them would have been point-blank telling them to avoid her, and that would be simply unkind.
...though if any of the students were drinking this evening, and Junko caught them, maybe they should give her as much room as they possibly could.

Even if the man had made a career change, his years in the arts had stayed with him. He was, perhaps, a little too eager to share his advice with his less flexible partner. Everybody was less flexible when you were half serpent, but still. His efforts, and the recipient’s awkward responses, forced her to (poorly) hold back sniggers. “Woah, think I choked on some air there,” she muttered. “Hey, with skills like that, Serperior-san could make it big in the pro rankings! It’s not always the best hero that makes it up there, right?” She turned to the man in question. “Selling yourself well makes a hell of a difference, and you’ve got more experience there than most of us. Maybe you should teach at Yuuei too. A masterclass on branding. I’d be down for it!” Granted, if it wasn’t obvious just from being around her, Emi had already invested a lot of time into learning how to present oneself. It was part of the package as a content creator – especially one where creating a one-sided relationship with her fans was crucial to her success. She was no actor, but judging by how bouncy she was, she may have taken a few cues from them.
“Just… maybe don’t go around touching any more ladies’…” Waist? Ass? Dangerously-close-to-assland? Did bees have asses? “midsection! Pretty sure you can get sued for that. Unless they say you can! It’s none of my business what you guys do if everybody’s happy.” She winked at the two. Her body language may have ben find, but perhaps her tact could use a bit of work too. Not that she knew that, for soon enough she had moved to the next topic. “Oh, I bet Horn-chan’s got a stash of drinks hidden somewhere here! She seems like she really knows how to… have fun…” Her words trailed off as her eyes found Yellow Jacket again. Funny, how easy it was for her to see the woman’s default expression as stern. “Of course, as a responsible student and law-abiding citizen, I will not be engaging in illegal activities tonight! Definitely not in front of one Blue Agate-chan. Nope. Never.” If her hands had been free, she would have saluted her teacher, but a wide-eyed frown would have to suffice. By the time she opened her mouth again, her smile was back in full force.
“Anyway, I’ll be fine! I wouldn’t be much of a hero-in-training if I made other people worry about me so easily. And besides, there’s so much I haven’t heard yet – about both of you!” She glanced around the room, eyes dancing around Satan’s minion, the alleged buzzkill, and a handful of other pros and students. She saw a lot of drinks, and a lot of sweets and… bingo! A table of finger food against one of the walls. It was no canapé table, but even Emi knew that commenting on the free food wasn’t going to win her any points. She beckoned for them both to follow, having not considered whether or not the winged one cared to eat. Or if she could eat. “It’s easier to show with some food around anyway. Let’s see…”
Her eyes settled on a plate of pigs in a blanket. She set her present down on the table and exchanged it for the pastry. Under her gaze, white grains appeared out of nothing above her snack, quickly clumping together to form a crystalline cube. Given that they were already at a table of food, they might have been able to draw a conclusion before she spoke. “My quirk is… honestly nothing to do with my work. I control sodium chloride.” Indeed, the cube she had formed looked like an oversized grain of table salt, but considering that it was almost the size of the pork sausage itself, she had either missed out a few details, or the food was absolutely terrible for them. “It works best when I have something to pull it from. The way pork is made, it’s usually preserved by soaking it in the stuff, so it has a lot more salt than most meats, see?” The cube floated onto her awaiting fingertip, and upon contact, morphed itself into a snowflake. It was only then that she turned around to see if one or both of them had followed, waiting to hear the pros’ assessment.

Indeed, the succubus would have been far too obvious, after all Melanie delighted in mixing things up, not letting herself get too predictable. Especially when it came to her lovers. She giggled at her response, ready to get out a witty quip how she hadn't pegged Mia for the nerdy type, but instead her eyes were drawn away towards an almost angelic voice, getting a very palpable, frustrated groan from the ever upbeat Red Horn. Melanie brow rose immediately, almost wondering who was this woman who could earn such a reaction, but immediately noticed the resemblance. "Play buddy, hmmm...? Interesting way to put it~...", chuckled Melanie, now clearly understanding exactly why the ordinarily carefree Oni to warn her against dressing skimpy. For a seductress like her, picking up oggling eyes came all too easily, and yet she obviously didn't feel shy about it, resting a hand on one hip as her gaze casually drifted between each family member. Granted, some of this reaction was somewhat to be expected. There must have been a reason why Mia warned her guests against dressing saucily without outright forbidding it, right...? She wasn't exactly surprised at the notion of someone in her lover's family planning on hitting on the more seductive of guests, considering Red Horn's own libido. She remained silent for the most part, with naught by the occasional giggle escaping her lips: Even if that brother's unspoken question obviously intrigued her, when Mia assertively shut him down. Sounds like something interesting, though she had some pretty good, possibly kinky ideas of what exactly he planned on asking, though she could probably probe Mia about it later... Why would she meddle on what was obviously family business, right? That's exactly why she remained silent, not because she found any devilish pleasure in simply watching the scene unfold before her~ "You have a wonderful, very intersesting family sweetie~", giggled the seductress, whispering into the blonde's ear, pretty glad to have decided to stay silently and simply watch - if it meant he could watch Mia like this. In all the time they'd known each other, she'd never seen the girl blush, seeing naught but a hint of redness in those cheeks save for those moments she brought her to ecstacy, "Lovely to meet you all. Name's Melanie, but just call me Mel." She smiled and waved like a good girlfriend, she might have taken a moment to properly shake hands and mingle with her lover's family, and yet said lover clearly wanted nothing more than to be elsewhere. Mouthing a silent, 'See you later' to the happy family, the siren indulged with a playful smirk, following after her: "Oh, another famous hero, huh...? Feels almost like a celebrity party over here~", she quipped, visibly intrigued by meeting yet another known hero in the flesh. She didn't look the slightest bit unnerved by her looks, quite the opposite, after all, she always found physical mutation quirks quite interesting, enough not to feel frightend by even someone actually looking like a dinosaur, "Pleasure to meet you. I'm Melanie, Mia's friend" An introduction was about the best she could manage before the hero went off wherever, leaving her to wink at the tough blonde whose hand she held on to: "So... Who else should I meet around here~?", she inquired, tilting her hand as her thumb glided along the back of the Oni's hand

Mikhail’s smile didn’t waver a bit at Hachi’s chastisement. Despite her tone, he could tell she was back to teasing him again. He’d smoothed it over. She didn’t hate him. He grinned wider, meeting her surprised expression with confidence. She could raise all the objects she wanted. He’d pointed out something new. And apparently touched her thorax. From her tone...that was probably her ass. Oops. It took effort to make his grin fade, and even more not to wink. Hachi would probably actually kill him, or go back on her promise of mentorship if he did. Mikhail realized he needed to look up bee anatomy, as soon as possible. “Sorry.” He murmured, not sounding sorry in the least. Mikhail slithered over to follow Emi, grabbing a pig-in-a-blanket from a tray next to the one she’d picked up, and taking a delicate bite. His stomach rumbled at the smell, and he instantly realized that he was way, way hungrier than he’d expected. Which probably should have been expecting, given he was still recovering. Foolish. “Even if I am popular enough to make it height in the rankings, I plan on being good, not just looking good.” He said between bites, pride a little stung at Emi’s comment. He didn’t let it show, and it wasn’t his fault...but the moment he had this bandages off, he was going to make a name no one could ignore. “Do you think I should start by challenging Mia to a duel?” Or someone else?” The last part sounded more like musing aloud. He was pretty sure Mia would be able to tie him in a knot. But losing could be a learning experience. Not one he generally, enjoyed, but this was a new field. Mikhail continued to watch Emi demonstrate her quirk, resisting the urge to scarf down food from the table like a starving animal. He’d just avoided one blunder. He didn’t need another. “Salt...manipulation. Huh. Honestly? I never would have guessed it.” He said. The fact that she’d used food to demonstrate almost made him laugh. But he immediately thought of how much of people were made of salt. “So. Blood, sweat, and tears, I suppose? That sounds like it would be easy to underestimate, but it’s definitely hero material.” Mikhail paused, half-eaten bit of food in his hands. He had to get away from the table, or he was going to eat himself fat. He turned to face Emi and Hachi fully, taking the last bite of food, then wiping his hands off on a napkin.
“The real question is, how good are you at using it? For example...hmm. Hachi? A little challenge? Bobbing for apples. The three of us.”

Christopher smiled softly, as he listened to those around him talk. He may have been a hero, but to say he was one of the lesser knowns would be being polite. Compared to some of the other heroes here, he knew he was still rather unknown. But as he stood there he couldn’t help but smile to see so many young people who all had a similar goal of peace. He undid his cloak and from behind it, he produced a bag, undoing the clips and taking the bag off, he opened it and removed his personal violin. His strings were well kept, and his violin looked handcrafted instead of mass produced.
“Forgive me, Redhorn, I could not help myself and thought to bring my violin. If I may, with so many young heroes here. I think one of the older end of the community should speak to them. As a way to bring everyone closer together. Especially with what happened concerning Thunder…. And with the events concerning the Military camps, we should have someone speak up to raise everyone’s spirits.” He smiled wide and happy.” He for Redhorn to give him permission, hoping not to over step hos bounds. Though he hoped she would have no problem with it, as he knew from personal experience that sometimes, what you really need was to have someone lighten the mood over recent events, and allow people to breath a sigh of relief.

I'm only a social creature when sugar is involved. .
Hachi's blank stare at Serperior was intentional this time, given the absolutely-not-an-apology he gave her. He was a snake through and through. At least he had the sense to look like he was surprised. The little shit.
"If you were to duel anyone, I would recommend asking Darkshine for a sparring match. Her current state is almost as bad as your own. It would even the odds."
Emi, meanwhile, was kind enough to change the subject and gesture the two of them over to the snack table, where Hachi picked up a plastic cup and poured what looked like juice into it from one of the hoses that wasn't red. She brought it up to her mouth and uncurled her tongue, and began drinking. With Emi and Mikhail speaking they might notice the way she drank. Ah well. Emi's quirk was quite interesting all things considered. Manipulating salt had many different uses, though it would mean she needed to carry around an abundance of it during training...unless she used tears or sweat or blood like Mikhail said. What would a Quirk like that be like against a blood manipulator like Rin?
Though there was no change in her eyes, she noticed Mikhail turn away for a moment. Hm. He deflected it with a challenge, but she kept her gaze on him.
...a talk for when we're alone.
Hachi's tongue curled back into her mouth as she lowered her cup. "Challenge accepted, Orlov-san. Though I'm afraid I'm at a disadvantage, given the size of my mouth. I don't suppose there's another game we can try afterwards to have a fairer shot at things?"

Any mention of Darkshine was sure to get Emi’s attention. The girl paid special attention to pretty much every female pro (that actually looked like a human), but there was a special place in her heart for the number one hero. Not just because she was Japan’s most famous, though that certainly played its part. It was her appreciation for beauty. Her class, which she had clearly been raised instead of gained. Her aura of confidence. The love and adoration she had earned. There weren’t many people Emi looked up to, but she would never hesitate to call Darkshine a role model – perhaps even her idol.
She blinked hard, mentally bringing herself back to the party. Hopefully neither of the pros had noticed her mind wandering off (or the glazed awe in her eyes) , but she eyed them both just to be sure. Hopefully she was in the clear, but her eyes lingered just a little longer on Yellow Jacket anyway. So that was how bees drank. She made a conscious effort to keep a confused frown off her face. The last thing she needed to do was embarrass an actual human being for being the way they are.
“I think Madame Tsutsuji has the right idea. I’m… not happy to hear that Darkshine is still recovering, but if you can get her attention, you might be able to learn something! And if you can pull me along to watch, that would be even better!” Worth a shot, she thought. “Then again… I don’t think I’ve ever seen her fighting hand-to-hand, besides, well… you know.” That one time had ended with the woman hospitalised. “And if I had to guess, that’s what you’re trying to do, right? Or at least, hand-to-hand-slash-tail. Maybe it would be a good place to start. Either that’s not a strong point for her, or she’s so good at it that she never shows it off! …Probably the first one.”
The conversation moved to her talent, and she showed a satisfied smile. Her upbringing meant that hearing praise for her talents was still new to her, though she would have accepted any comment as long as it didn’t come with a salt joke. His comment about bodily fluids gave her pause, and then a look of shock. It faded soon enough and she shook her head. “Not exactly. Er… Not that I’ve tried it, but I did a lot of research to try and understand it. The short version is that I can only use sodium chloride.” The salty snowflake on her fingertip morphed into an exclamation point. “Table salt. When the salt enters your system, it’s broken down into sodium and chloride. Blood, sweat, tears – that’s all just sodium. The part that makes salt taste salty. Annoying, but I guess it’s for the best. I wouldn’t want to use it that way anyway – everybody needs salt to live, and I probably shouldn’t be messing with that!” If they thought a high schooler shouldn’t remember that much about biology off the top of their head, they were right! In light of her total lack of professional training, however, Emi had learned to use her quirk through self-training and research. She could tell them a lot about salt, but not much more.
“But I can make do. Again, never looked into it too much, but I think I must have some sort of storage unit in me for that stuff. It would make sense because of the quirk and all. I just can’t use it all, or… bad things would happen. But besides that, lots of things have table salt in them, or used enough while making them to have a little left over. Food. Seawater. Paper. Some plastics and metals. Soap, dyed textiles, leather… Even…” She put on her thinking face for a moment. As if it were another piece of pork, salt grains rose from Serperior’s napkin, joining to form a small cube. “Ah! Tissue paper. And as long as I can remember some of those in a tight spot, I think I should be fine!” The smug smile had returned in full force. She allowed herself a break to enjoy the pig in a blanket as the pros suggested an idea. Her lips showed less satisfaction and more amused confusion. “Like, grabbing apples with your teeth? That’s… not what I would expect from you. Not that that’s a bad thing! I just don’t know if either of us have much of a chance against those fangs.” More importantly, dousing her face in whatever green liquid filled up the cauldron was going to do her makeup no favours… But if a pair of pros wanted to do it, who was she to say no?
