PERSONALITY
Gentle, empathetic and playful, she has a strong protective and maternal instinct from being the eldest of four sisters and always feeling the need to defend them. Hypersexual and seductive, her shameless libido stands out first and foremost as her most defining trait, as well as her unshakable confidence in welcoming it as part of her: So much her favorite targets typically include people who would otherwise want nothing to do with her.

With this insatiable passion, she's predictably unfaithful to her lovers, and though she doesn't go out of her way to decieve them, she's not really upfront about her commitment issues either. All in all she prefers her friendships with some benefits, but she's a loyal friend regardless and will naturally strive to help those she cares about. Unlike most people believe Melanie's actually capable of commiting to one lover, assuming someone she loves who can keep up with her... Which has only happened twice yet.

But regardless of whether or not she has a lover at any given point, her main concern is to enjoy herself.

A free spirited artist at heart, she seeks fun and pleasure as her main goals, new experiences from which inspiration might spring forth. Poetry and lyrics make up her preferred art forms, showing off a talent for both as well as a lovely singing voice. After all this time being judged for her life choices, Melanie makes it a point to be as least judgemental she she possibly can, and perhaps for this reason finds it difficult to get mad at others even in situations where she probably should; it's not that she avoids conflict, but rather how nothing appears to get under her skin in the slightest.

Angry Melanie does happen once in a blue moon, and so far has only out of love for her sisters. She's perfectly capable of being annoyed, but usually shrugs just about anything off with a hair flip and witty reply, often a sassy form of retaliation. In the end, she's still a 'make love, not war' kind of gal, and for all her skill in martial arts, she uses them solely for self defense when all else has failed. Even her fighting abilities reflect this with a grueling lack of offensive techniques.

Her love for her sisters and the time she spent looking out for them gives Melanie a characteristic older sister vibe, especially when interacting with younger women. She'll go out of her way to help and and do things for them, usually lacking the more salacious, seductive demeanor she gives everyone else. Not to say she's incapable of feeling attracted to younger women. Quite the opposite; projecting that sisterly affection without blood ties to get in the way can easily yield the same outcome if she's not careful, but instead, it results in a wholly different side of romantic Melly.

For a lazy, hedonistic lost girl, Melanie boasts a visibly fit, toned body from regular martial arts training and swimming in the ocean. Together with her tall height and pert bust, she displays an elegant, slender hourglass figure, often highlighted by her stylish-yet-practical choice of outfits. Predictably proud of her body, she likes showing a bit of skin as much as possible, but she's whimsical first and foremost; as such, whatever she wears will reflect her mood when she woke up. She's all smiles and good vibes most of the times, and often carries herself with a sultry, half lidded look. True to her skills as a musician, Melanie's voice stands out from others for that melodious, honeylike tone, as well as a deeper hint that people scarcely take note until they actually hear her sing. That expressive voice and rich, vibrant timbre provides clues to her potential as a singer, and it's often described as her charm point. Her favorite outfit - a red, white and blue seifuku - nods at both her homeland, and the country she's been settling into. All in all, Melly's speech and physical maturity contrasts with her youthful demeanor and lifestyle, making her appear younger than her real age...

HISTORY

Melanie Jane was born in the sunny city of Paradise Beach - near the southern tip of Florida - to Lou and Rena Hartigan, in May 2049. Her father was a middle-high class stock broker and her mother a housewife, who provided her with a happy, comfortable childhood. She'd become the eldest of four sisters, gaining a new one every two years: Ashley in July 2051, who quickly blossomed into a social butterfly, with more friends that people the average person can even keep track of. After her came Amelia in April 2053, a girl who'd soon grow into the smartest and most scholarly among her sisters. Mia was the last of the four, coming into the world in January 2055, an eccentic go-getter, and the only one to inherit her father's talent for business and finance.

And Melanie?

As the eldest of the four, she'd forever feel an unyielding drive to protect them from all the evil in the world. This didn't mean she was liked by all of them, even if she loved them all more than anything, she knows at least one of them hated her guts. She somewhat deserved Amy's animosity though, for her inability to shake off her attraction to the love of her life... As a child though, Melanie was simply playful, perhaps with a bit too strong a taste for attention...

After all, Melanie had a fair number of talents, with her enviable singing voice chiefly among them, as well as a knack for poetry she could channel into songwriting. If that weren't enough, she awakened a powerful Quirk, the kind of ability many heroes would envy. Due to the Chi based nature of her ability and the overall dangerous city she lived in, she was made to study Chinese martial arts, but could never quite muster the disciple or even the fighting spirit to become a proper student...

Perhaps this constant praise and awareness of her talent bolstered her unwavering confidence, taking away any real motivation to try hard and truly immerse herself in one of those potential skills... Yet she continued reciving attention for raw talent and little chiding for her laziness, and as as she grew older and ravishing, she only recieved more attention.

From playful to flirtatious, from frisky to salacious, she'd soon struggle to find approval for the person she was. She took her first lover at twelve years old, and people put labels on her, but she just shrugged them off and just kept doing what felt right.

If anything, the bad reputation she recieved helped temper her confidence with some modicum of self awareness and introspection, but not really motivate her to nurture her talents... Indeed, Melanie's confidence and playful nonchalance rubbed many other kids the wrong way, while her endless lust rubbed many others the right way: After all, her sexuality was always as much a tool as an amusement the moment she was old enough to see it as such. Aside from her own personal source of romance and entertainment, she used it to get back at kids who bullied her sisters by turning their love lives upside down, and considers seducing his father's secretary the height of her accomplishments - to get back at him for something she doesn't even remember anymore...

When entering high school, she was the first among her sisters to become a cheerleader, and eventually leader of the whole squad: Partially out of admiration for her mother, but most of all she was drawn both by the attention it gave her and its artistic aspect. As a jack of all trades but master of none, Melanie delved into sports as well, practicing swimming and other forms of athleticism, and eventually started a band with Ashley and a few other friends. She wasn't the type to commit to none of these for too long however, and wildly hopped from hobby to hobby as her whims dictated. Every so often she'd sabotage herself whenever she started feeling railroaded into a specfic path... Instead she often hung out at high school parties, bringing drinks, smokables and friends behind her, and had a way of becoming the life of the party wherever she went.

Yet despite this tendency to dabble in a little bit of everything, she was always a bit of a lost girl: Too lazy to truly perfect her talents, too loose to settle down with a lover who could motivate her, and too unambitious to ever experience a real driving force.

Ultimately, her sloth presented the chief impediment to her growth: Melanie enjoys long hours at the beach more than anything, resting under the sun, surfing some waves; and once it finally set she'd go out to some nightclub brimming with life and drunken people to party the night away. With a mature body hiding her comparatively immature lifestyle, Melanie has a strong fixation on beauty, and will always finds the right motivation to at least work out and keep herself in shape.

Even though she never truly immersed herself in them, she did enjoy her martial arts lessons, fully understanding their importance in her hometown: Paradise beach, for all it's beauty, remains a dangerous city ridden with crime and corruption.

All her sisters wound up learning some form of self defense, but because of her Quirk, Melanie required a thoroughly expanded form of guidance from Chinese Martial arts, coming to at least understand the more spiritual, philosophical aspects which she strove to adapt into her daily life: Yin and Yang. Inner balance, peace of mind... By the age of twenty two, she'd achieved at least a moderate enough skill to use her Quirk to harden her body and recover from the resulting damage, yet her discipline left much to be desired, casting doubts on her ability to ever truly master her Quirk. Melanie would much rather travel and laze around doing her thing, unconcerned with that others expected of her. So when her youngest sister recieved a scholarship to study at the first ever hero School in Tokyo, Japan, Melanie quickly jumped at the chance to accompany Mia and get away from her parents' expectations.

Singer and poet, model and swimmer, charmer and reveller... Melanie was many things, and yet none in particular... What kind of change would a trip to Japan bring about in her life?
