Mia was on one of her usual patrols around her ‘zone’ of the city, not wanting to overlap any of the other active heroes and definitely not step too far out of the limits the government had set for her. Usually her patrols could be pretty quiet. There wasn’t a crime every day afterall, but when there was boy was she ready to put on a show and milk it for what it was worth, both for the sake of her ego and her bank account of course.~ Still today had been panning out to be a pretty quiet day, wearing the chain cuffs that acted as the main part of her hero costume and some more casual clothes consisting of a very slim midrift revealing orange tanktop, and a set of cargo shorts. It was one of the last warm days she’d get for a while, so with her tough skin she’d decided to go barefoot through the city. Suited the demon image she put out better anyway, and with her skin it barely even registered when she stood on a pebble, or heck, even the odd shard of glass in the rougher parts of town.
Speaking of broken glass though, what should reach her ears but the shattering of a shop window around the corner. Course it could just be some low level punk vandal who thought they were tough throwing rocks at some random store. She cautiously rounded the corner, catching a lookout just as he’d briefly turned his attention the other way. The balaclava he was wearing gave his intentions away right away, and as he turned his eyes back, he’d look up to find the harsh, sharp, red eyes of Mia Kearney, Red horn, the Obliterating Oni and the Demon from Dallas. Her muscles slowly swelled as she glared down at him, cracking her knuckles into her palm.
When asked later, the last thing this guy remembers was the sound of Mia’s neck cracking as she rolled her head back along her shoulders.
“ALRIGHT FUCKWADS!” With another window smashed by the body of the lookout being tossed through it, Mia showed the rage of an Oni in her eyes as she pushed her way through the shattered glass, her tough skin not allowing it to penetrate her feet, and leaving her free to impose upon the two thugs left in the shop, a frog like quirk user with about 6 arms, more comparable to a battle toad than a real frog, while the other was wearing some form of goggles that had some weird bug-ass eyes behind them. She let out a puff of air, eyes flicking between them as they both recognized the hero before them, and the body of their lookout groaning in agony against the wall he’d ended up hitting after being thrown through the window.
They soon booked it after that.
“HEY!” Busting through the back door after them, the two quirk users tried to flee across Tokyo park, leaving Mia growling as she gave chase, leaping over the fence dividing the street and the park and pushing her heels into the grass hard enough to kick up a good layer of dirt as she charged after them. “You punks best not think you’re getting away on my turf!”

As usual, Kenshin began his patrol for crime right after finishing his homework. Walking towards the park, Kenshin scanned the area for any troublemakers. The boy smiled upon seeing that all was well for the moment. There seemed to be no trouble. Still, he needed to be careful. Trouble had a nasty habit of showing up unexpectedly. Thus, Kenshin was not too surprised when he heard the sound of glass breaking and saw two criminals running out of a store with broken windows. The young vigilante began to smile. "Shoplifters, huh? Well alright! Time to kick some ass!" Kenshin then noticed someone else chasing after the two. Kenshin recognized her immediately. She was the pro hero, Red Horn! At first, Kenshin was excited. Holy crap, it was not every day that Kenshin saw a badass pro hero at work. But then Kenshin ran to the nearest tree and hid behind it. Ah right, vigilantism was frowned upon by the government. There was no doubt that if Kenshin tried to join in the fight, he'd most likely be apprehended. Unfortunately, he had no choice but to stay out of the action and let the heroine do her work. Still, that didn't mean that Kenshin had to miss out on the fun. As Kenshin watched the chase, he began to realize that the criminals were slightly faster. At this rate, they were going to get away if they weren't stopped! Kenshin gritted his teeth. Damn! The boy could not just stand there and do nothing! Red Horn needed assistance! Kenshin decided to go in and help, consequences be damned! Upon making sure that no one was looking in his direction, Kenshin activated his quirk. Transform!Green lines covered the boy's body, forming a grid. On top of this grid, Kenshin's armor materialized. He was now Red Edge, badass vigilante who was ready to help the pro hero kick ass! Rushing as fast as his quirk allowed him to, Kenshin made his way to the robbers. Having seemingly come in out of nowhere, Kenshin's arrival came as a complete surprise to the thugs. "And just where do you think you two are going?"The two thugs seemed shocked when they saw Kenshin transform his right hand into a blade of light right before their eyes. One of the thugs tried to run again, but Kenshin dashed to him and knocked him down to the floor with the blunt part of his blade. Kenshin smirked. "As if I'll let you scum run."The other thug raised his six fists, ready to fight. Unfortunately for him, Kenshin had provided enough of a distraction for him to completely forget about the approaching horned heroine. She could easily catch up to the thugs now. | Word count: 457

Mia certainly wasn’t too fast on her feet. As much muscle as she had in her legs it tended to weigh her down more than enhance her. It was part of why she was watching those old super hero movies to try and get ideas on how to put her strength to use and translate it into speed, but for now she didn’t know how to make that line of thought bare any successful fruit. Instead she was left digging up the grass with every heavy step she took and practically roaring after the two thugs who continued to flee with their satchels full of stolen cash and goods. Mia did briefly duck low, sweeping her hand along the earth and yanking a rock out of the dirt, the kind that was hard, heavy, and many kids probably spent days trying to dig out of the mud with sticks, hopping onto her front leg and tossing a chunky rock forward, flinging it towards the thugs only for the 6 armed battle toad to rear back an elbow and knocking it away. The throw had only slowed her down further and her muscles were tensing further, her tusks extending to the point they were poking out over her top lip just a little. If she couldn’t catch up now she’d sure as hell be on the lookout for some 6 armed fucker and a googly eyed prick in her territory in the future.
Luckily for her, it seemed they wouldn’t be getting away so soon. A flash of red shot between them and their escape route and suddenly she had a chance to catch up. Leaping over a small set of flowers so as not to trample through them, her horn growing almost like a rhinos as she started to charge forward and roaring at the top of her lungs. Her charge may have ran her right into the back of the battle toad if her roaring hadn’t attracted the attention of googly eyes, who with a sharp turn lifted his goggles and started to fire off a green beam of energy towards the Oni. The initial force of the stream knocked her out of her stride, lifting her head and throwing her arms up to prevent the blast from hitting her in the face again, her combined arms enough to stop the beam from getting any further, and in truth it wasn’t all that painful against her tough skin. Like a rain of sharp pebbles against her skin, at least if her skin was normal. The guys eye beams could probably burn anyone else’s skin but she could only grin as she started to push through it, hearing the whimpering mubles of the poor boy as he practically washed her force his way through his energy stream. Progress was still slow though, and her eyes scanned for something else she could throw. She kept one arm raised in defense as she ducked low again, the beam skimming off her arm at an angle up towards the sky for a moment as she grasped the frisbee. It was weak, and plastic, but chucking it with everything she had it managed to ricochet off the punk’s head and force his eye beams to trail off, giving Mia a chance to storm in, wrapping an arm around his torso and slamming her hand down over his eyes, hissing harshly as she tried to focus her attention on the fellow in red who’d stopped to help her.
“Hey kid! Dunno who you are but you mind taking ol’ froakie there!?”

The thug that Kenshin had knocked down earlier got back up. He seemed to realize that there would be no running away. A fight was inevitable. However, rather than attack the boy, the thug decided to go after the approaching heroine that had attracted his attention with her roar. He lifted his goggles and began to fire laser beams from his eyes. However, the attack was not as effective as he had hoped. Try as he might to drive her away, she eventually managed to stop his laser and overpower him. The thug's partner tried to help, but Kenshin was determined to keep him out of it. He was not going to let the thugs gang up on the pro hero. After all, the boy wanted to kick ass too, and he did not want her to take both of them down herself. As Kenshin was ready to face off against the six-armed frog man, he heard the pro hero call out to him, asking if he could take care of this thug. Kenshin smiled. "Consider it done." Assuming his battle stance, Kenshin moved in to attack the thug. The thug used his six arms to block the sword swing. He then used two of his arms to punch Kenshin. The boy fell to the floor, but he quickly got back up. He was not going to fall that easily! Deciding to use his speed to his advantage, Kenshin began to dash around the frog man, moving just quick enough to dodge the thug's slow punches. After getting a few hits in with his sword, Kenshin noticed that the frog guy stopped trying to throw punches and instead began defending. He realized that he was too slow, and thus began to change tactics. Kenshin decided to move in and strike from behind. Something strange and unexpected happened. As Kenshin was pushing his blade forward against the thug's sudden block, he noticed his blade begin to glow even brighter than usual. Well this is new, Kenshin thought. I wonder what's going on with this. Why's my blade glowing all of a sudden? As Kenshin began to make a horizontal slash, the thug decided that he needed some space. He jumped back to dodge the oncoming blade swing. However, that proved to be a mistake. The moment Kenshin swung his blade, the boy was surprised to see a beam of energy shoot out of his sword. Not expecting the crescent-shaped beam of energy to escape the boy's blade, the thug was taken by surprise and was hit and knocked down to the ground. Meanwhile, Kenshin was shocked. Holy shit, was that a freaking SWORD BEAM just now?! THAT'S SO COOL!! Unfortunately, Kenshin had no time to get excited. The thug was already getting back up. Kenshin needed to end this quickly. As Kenshin moved in to strike, he noticed his blade was no longer glowing. Damn! Was the sword beam a one time thing? Would he be able to use it again? The boy decided to test it out later. Right now, he had a thug he needed to keep down. The thug tried to unleash a barrage of punches as Kenshin moved in, but the boy was naturally faster, and thus was able to move out of the way. Circling around the thug, Kenshin swung his blade on the thug's back with as much force as the boy could muster, knocking the thug down to the floor once more. As the thug once again tried to get up, Kenshin whacked him on the head with the blunt part of his blade. It wasn't hard enough to give the man a concussion, but the message was clear. Stay the hell down! Seeing the thug knocked out, Kenshin turned to face the heroine and smiled at her. "Mission accomplished!" | Word count: 636

Growling loud as her tusks grew more and more prominent, though the poor boy under her couldn’t see it and take the hint, she kept a hand firmly pinned over his eyes, suffering the rain of sharp sensations into her open palm and letting out a hot breathed sigh at the fact he wasn’t accepting his loss, kicking and squirming even under this near 7 foot of muscle pinning him down. She reached into the back of her pants, a set of cuffs dangling from her fingers, nothing special, standard police issue and definitely something a hero could make use of for non-violent take downs if they weren’t naturally equipped to perform such feats. She harshly turned the body of the person beneath her around and shoved the back of his head down so his eye beams were now only good for spraying mud into his own face as she tugged his limbs around like he was a ragdoll, pinning his wrists in place behind his waist before finally locking them in place with the cuffs, her sharp eyes focusing entirely on him till she was sure he was stuck in the cuffs, finally looking towards the red ranger who was fighting the battle toad, smirking a little as he seemed to be having a bit of fun handling the other thug. She briefly wondered if she recognized him…it was hard to tell under the armor but he definitely seemed a bit young to be a hero, and even if he was, Mia was trying to make a mental note of everyone she might have to work alongside in the future. He did seem familiar…just not as a hero.
She watched the fight with interest, while she was power and offense he seemed to be speed and precision, which wasn’t bad. She did like going up against those types because they could be frustrating little shits who jumped around her every move, and yeah, frustration should be bad, but they tended to last longer than anyone who tried to match her blow for blow, so she watched him with genuine eagerness to see what he could pull off, and actually laughed out loud with an impressed sound as the sword beam cut out from his attack, recalling some similarly armored character in old games who could pull off similar tricks, only as far as she remembered it, his blade was green.
Eventually of course he took down his opponent, and Mia was reaching back to get another set of cuffs…then she eyed the battle toad again and rolled her eyes at herself, hooking her fingers into 3 sets before offering them out, one hand constantly forcing the eye beam thug to eat dirt till the red ranger took the cuffs. “They’re heavy duty, gotta be for quirk users these days. Lock his wrists criss cross too, it’ll be harder for him to move if you do that.” She spoke somewhat from experience, having battled a similarly multi-limbed quirk user not all that long ago. Once he took the cuffs Mia was lifting up eye beams, grasping the back of his head and rapidly aiming him skyward till she forced his goggles back over his eyes, and without his hands to remove them that was pretty much him done.
Glancing about there were some odd looks from the people around them, one or two on their phone, maybe one who genuinely recognized Mia outside of her normal hero costume, but it was clear the police had been called and were probably gonna be here soon. Her eyes in turn drifted back to the red ranger, smirking as she felt she knew why she recognized him. A lot of vigilantes could get youtube attention, even if they didn’t want it.
“Hey I’m gonna bet from the fact I don’t know your hero name you ain’t one.” Still holding the back of beamies neck, she moved over and took the back of the battle toad. “As much as I love a good ego stroke, I ain’t one to steal credit, but I’mma bet you wanna get your mighty morphin’ ass out of here before the boys in blue show up right?” She offered a wide smirk and shook her head at herself, mainly amused by how vigilantes were seen despite their good work. “I won’t tell anyone, but tell me where you’re goin’ before you dart off. I’ll wanna catch ya later and thank ya properly for the hand here. Especially since these two might have gotten away if it weren’t for your quick thinkin’ cutting them off.” Her pointed ears twitched a little as she heard the sirens in the distance, glancing towards the nearest entrance to the park and sighing before glancing back to the kid in red. “Go on get. I’ll catch ya later.”

As Kenshin made sure that the six-armed thug was indeed unconscious, he looked over to the heroine to see if she was still fighting. Sadly, it seemed as though she wrapped up her fight long before Kenshin finished his. He would have to watch her in action another time, then. The heroine handed Kenshin three sets of heavy duty handcuffs for mister six-arms. Kenshin cuffed the thug, being sure to lock the man's wrists crisscross as the heroine said. Finally, the threat had been neutralized. All that was left was for the police to arrive, and for Kenshin to find a way to leave before they did. Kenshin was not surprised when the pro hero correctly guessed that he was a vigilante. What did surprise him was the fact that she was basically letting him go. Kenshin sighed in relief. "Thank you." Kenshin was even more surprised to hear that the pro hero wanted to meet up with him later to thank him for his help. It took everything the boy had to keep calm and not squeal with excitement. "I'll be at the Kafe Cafe on the street opposite from the south end of the park. Just look for the guy with the white and black hair. That'll be me." As he said this, Kenshin made sure to keep his voice down so only the heroine could hear him. The last thing he needed was anyone else blowing his cover. As Kenshin began to hear the sounds of sirens in the distance, he knew he had to leave now. "Later, Red Horn! Red Edge, out! ...And no, I swear I wasn't copying you when I made my alias." With that awkward farewell out of the way, Kenshin began to speed off in the opposite direction as quickly as he could. Once Kenshin was a suitable distance away, he dashed towards an alley. Upon making sure no one else was around to see him, Kenshin entered the alley. Once hidden, Kenshin pressed the emblem on his chest, reverting his transformation. Now back to normal, Kenshin exited the alley and looked around once more. Again, there was no one watching. Sighing with relief, the boy began heading towards the Kafe Cafe. It was a bit of a long walk, about fifteen minutes in fact. Kenshin had dashed as far away from the scene as he could. He did not know how long it would take Red Horn to finish her business, but he did not want to keep her waiting too long, if at all. Eventually, Kenshin made his way to the Kafe Cafe. Once inside, the boy ordered some water. After getting his drink, Kenshin scanned the interior of the cafe, searching for the heroine. There were not many people inside at the moment, so he did not need to worry about not being able to spot her. However, it seemed like she had not arrived just yet. Taking a seat at one of the empty tables, Kenshin took a sip from his water, eagerly awaiting the heroine's arrival. | Word count: 509

Taking the location he’d said to meet him and committing it to memory, Mia gave a firm nod and turned her head briefly with the sound of sirens, turning back just in time to hear his hero name, snickering loudly and shaking her head, not even thinking about the fact it could be a copycat name and sighing cheekily as he said that. “Kid I made that name on a whim when I couldn’t speak much Japanese. If anything, take pride in the fact that you probably came first, so if anything I’m the one copying you ya know?”
Still she couldn’t keep him here talking and with a light wave she let him get on his way. He was just late enough getting a move on that the police officers who’d ditched their cars to run into the park had managed to catch him running away, but Mia knew how to play this aspect of the game pretty well by now, and turned to the group of officers with a bright smile, opening her arms to them and walking over with a bit of ego in her stride as she both opened her arms to welcome them, and also gesture to the two criminals on the floor, one of which was squirming to try and push his goggles off with the ground in a last ditch effort to escape.
“Sup officers. Sugumi! Hows the wife?” She gestured to a tough looking female officer she recognized from a few other cases and one of the few that she genuinely got along with. The woman in question even opened her mouth to offer a response, but was interrupted by another officer, one Mia still recognized but certainly didn’t get along with, a hand on his taser gun as his other rather forwardly gestured at the blonde as he tried to take a tone that’d put her in her place, but to Mia just made him seem even smaller.
“Cut the crap, who was that one in red you let get away!?” Mia shot him a glare and her arms lowered, but her smirk didn’t entirely fade. Nudging the battle toad with her foot to draw attention to the two apprehended criminals, she wasn’t about to put red edge in the shit. “Dunno what you’re talking about. Caught these two all by myself.” In the face of that accusation Mia wasn’t stealing any credit, just like she promised. She was solely aiming to defer attention from Red edge himself. The officer growled but looked back to his fellow officers, the one Mia got along with shaking her head and shrugging rather casually.
“Don’t look at me boss, I dunno what you saw.”
The officer growled lowly under his breath, gesturing for the other members of the troop to come with him as he grabbed the criminals and started taking them back to the cars, mumbling as he passed Mia that he’d get the paperwork she needed for this in the mail. Mia herself was more focused on her pseudo friend, waiting till the others were out of earshot before winking and whispering. “Thanks Sugumi.” The woman shrugged and waved it off. “Don’t mention it, same promise as ever right?”
Mia sighed and nodded, but with a smile, giving the officer a fistbump. “I only protect ‘em till they misbehave.”
“Atta girl.”
With that the two parted ways and Mia leaned against a tree, watching the officers till they departed just incase anything happened before heading off to that café. She had a fast natural walking pace but she may have kept Kenshin waiting just a little, ducking under the doorframe of the café and spotting the young kid, a little surprised he was actually so young looking without the armor…assuming she had the right person. Walking over, she lightning knocked her knuckles against the table he was using, trying to catch his attention.
“Er…recognize me kid?” She asked, picking her words carefully. Should she be wrong she didn’t wanna give the vigilante’s name out.

Kenshin took another sip of his water, keeping his eye on the door. Hopefully the heroine would be walking inside soon. The boy wondered if the police would keep her busy for too long. He could easily imagine that being the case. Damn police officers making things more needlessly complicated. As Kenshin continued to be lost in thought, he was suddenly startled by a knocking sound. Looking to see the source of the knocking sound, Kenshin gasped in surprise. Holy shit, she's really here! The boy smiled. He was glad the heroine showed up. Upon hearing her question, Kenshin nodded and began responding in a whisper. He did not need nor want any eavesdroppers. "Of course! You're the pro hero Red Horn! How could I not recognize you?" Kenshin then smirked. "By the way, I'm sorry I missed out on seeing you kick that laser thug's ass. I wanted to beat six-armed toad guy fast enough so I could watch you in action. Sadly, you finished your fight long before I was done with mine." Kenshin was excited beyond words. It was not every day that he would get to talk to an actual pro hero. What could they talk about? Was it okay to ask for an autograph? Wait, no. First, Kenshin did not want to go all fanboy on the pro hero. It would look very unprofessional and immature on his part, and he did not want to screw things up. Second, he had nothing for her to write on anyway. There was one thing Kenshin could say to Red Horn. "Thanks again for not turning me in for being a vigilante. I just couldn't sit back and watch those thugs escape. I just had to help you."Kenshin then realized he had not yet fully introduced himself. He hesitated for a bit. Was it really a good idea to give out his name to someone who knew he was a vigilante? Then again, Kenshin figured that he could trust the heroine, seeing as she let the boy escape from the police. The boy extended his hand. "I am Red Edge, but you can just call me Kenshin. It's an honor and pleasure to meet you, madam." | Word count: 369

Mia snickered, not sure if Red edge was joking with his first response, since her choice of words had really just been a subtle way to say if the kid knew who they were from earlier, but hey, fucking fantastic to hear the kid sounding like a fan whatever the case. She pulled out the chair on the opposite side of the table and sat into it with an audible thud, the chair creaking a little as it strained for a moment in holding her weight, but seeming to settle pretty soon after. “Ah is okay, I mean I love an audience but ya did me a solid back there kid, and as my fights go it weren’t too impressive. Just ended up lobbin’ something at the punk’s head to get his eyes pointin’ in another direction.” She smiled a little, that little moment of ingenuity being a great moment for someone who usually just took the brawlers approach. She leaned over the table and gave his white hair top a ruffle as she offered a bright grin. “Seriously though kid, you were great back-up, specially for yer age. No offense, o’course. Praise if anything.”
She rested back in her chair and folded her arms, shaking her head with a smirk. “Dude I used to be a vigilante myself. If heroes had been a thing back then and I wasn’t one of them, I’d have expected them to do the same for me if I helped them out on a job. Heck I’d do the same for you if I just came across you doing your own job? Like if I saw you kicking some butt in some alleyway, so long as I was sure you had a good reason, I’d just walk on by like I ain’t seen nuttin’.~” She smirked and rested back a bit more comfortably, offering her hand across the table when he offered his, shaking firmly in a way that may have incited a bit of pressure, but no pain on his own hand. “Mia Kearney to friends, but ya can keep callin’ me Red horn if ya like. Is really up to you.” She pulled her arm back into the crossed set with a smile and dipped her head up. “So, how’d someone as young as you get into the Vigilante game? UA too slow a path for ya?”

It took Kenshin all he had not to jump up and down in excitement, especially when Red Horn ruffled his hair. The boy did like hearing praise for his skill, and it meant a lot more coming from the pro hero. "Thank you."The more Red Horn talked, the more Kenshin began to admire her. She used to be a vigilante herself, which made the heroine even more awesome in Kenshin's eyes. The boy knew that some pro heroes cared more about being popular, becoming rich and successful, or upholding the law at all costs, than risking their own lives to protect the people. Not everyone was willing to become a hero for the sake of the people. Kenshin hated those types of pro heroes, especially ones who saw vigilantes in the same light as villains. What a bunch of idiots! So seeing that Red Horn was not one of those kinds of heroes made her a lot better. She was a hero Kenshin could actually respect. Ah, so Red Horn's name was Mia Kearney. She said it was up to him what he would refer to her as. If she didn't really mind, then Kenshin would just refer to the heroine by her real name. Not that Red Horn wasn't a badass name, but Kenshin did prefer calling people by their actual names if they allowed it. And now for the part Kenshin was expecting. The question of why he was a vigilante rather than a UA student. Kenshin finished drinking his water before answering Mia. "To be honest, my mom used to be a hero in the past. Well, technically a vigilante since pro heroes weren't a thing back then, but it's the same thing for me. She was awesome. You probably never heard of her, and that's fine. No one really knew the good my mother did, since she liked working in the shadows. Getting fame and stuff like that wasn't really her thing. She only cared about protecting the city from criminals and saving as many lives as she could. That in my opinion is the best kind of hero. One who puts everyone else above themselves. One who actually cares about saving lives over fame, popularity, and money."Sadly, she's stopped fighting crime years ago. She wanted to devote her time to her family, and she knew she couldn't do her hero work while raising my brother and I. So she unfortunately had to retire from heroism far earlier than she wanted to. I decided I wanted to continue her legacy. Protect the people, stop the villains, continue from where my mom left off. I want to be the hero she used to be. Someone she can be proud of. Someone who the people can rely on if things ever go bad. Someone who knows what actually matters."Kenshin then sighed before bringing up the hero school. "I actually did try to apply for UA. However, I was rejected. I don't even know why. They never gave me a reason why I failed to get accepted. So now I have no idea what it is I lack, or what I can improve upon if I ever wanted to reapply." Kenshin paused for a bit before resuming. "I'm going to be honest with you. I don't actually know if I even want to reapply to UA. Do I really need a hero school just to save lives? My mother didn't have one, and she did just fine. What would I even get out of UA, besides not having to hide from the police? What would I even be able to do that I can't already do now as a vigilante?"Kenshin realized that he spoke for a while. That always happened when vigilantism, heroism, or his mom was brought up. The boy was very passionate about that sort of thing. "Sorry, I kinda ended up rambling a bit more than I meant to. My bad." Kenshin was curious to see how Mia would respond to what he said. What did she think? | Word count: 676

Mia glanced about for a moment just before she gave Kenshin her full attention, casually checking if this was a café with waiters or if you had to go up to the front. Seemed to be waiters, so she’d try and order something when she got the chance, but for now she gave Kenshin her full attention, seeming a little big for the quaint café table but not about to make a fuss since that was just something she was used to being so big. She listened to how his mother was a vigilante and had a bit of a smirk on her, listening to him talk about his mother and the clear inspiration she was to him, only adding- “I wasn’t much of a shadows person myself. Even got caught by the police a few times, but my record o’ that’s been scrubbed since I became a pro. I mean not hard to find American news articles about it but I wasn’t exactly shy to an audience to say the least. Good to hear your mom was so inspirational though.”
She continued to listen, sighing a little at the fact she gave up the hero biz. For a good reason maybe but Mia’s identity was so tied to her hero work it still sounded like a shame to hear someone retired so early from that line of work. Still. “Ah well, good for her I suppose. So long as she’s happy with her decision there’s not much I can say’s wrong with that. Heck if anything I guess I feel better that she had the will to make that decision. I know some heroes who’d rather risk the hero biz because they value the lives of strangers as much as their family…which…yeah that’s a good thing when you get down to it, but I get not everyone can see it like that. I bet it was a tough decision for your ma’ to make with how good she sounds.”
She smiled a little wider at him wanting to be a hero people could rely on, but was sad to hear he failed the course…it did make her a little curious though. Who failed the UA course? It was a niche course and with quirker hate still rampant in some places, quirker self-shame was high too, so a lot of potential heroes never even applied. Where she not a half glass full type of girl she may have locked onto the fact he may have failed for a very bad reason, and instead came out with. “Eeeh fuck ‘em. You’re clearly doin’ well on your own.~” She offered a sly wink before resting back and getting comfortable as he finished talking, lifting a hand up and ordering a big pitcher of juice ‘for the table’ as a waitress walked by before giving him her attention again.
“Well kid I can certainly admire what you’re doin. Maybe a bit worried for ya, I mean, you’re young afterall, but I ain’t about to berate ya about it.~ Yer a good kid and your heart’s in the right place. So, no worries about the ramble, it was good to hear about ya. As far as I go…’fraid my origins ain’t so wholesome.” She let out a sigh but with the kid sharing his backstory, she shared hers. “Heroes weren’t a thing when I first became a vigilante, and if I’m honest, while it was a part of it, I never got into the game to help people. I love doing it, I love seeing their smiles and gratitude and just…knowing I made a difference no normal human could, but its not why I got into the game. I was a rage filled machine and I loved the adrenaline rush from a good fight…one of my first this guy with hard skin like a rhino. I purposely let him get just far away enough from the crime scene so I could fight him and test myself without the cops interrupting. Nowadays…I am a hero though. Sure I can still enjoy the thrill of a fight, but I recognized over time I was being reckless. I’ll still bend the rules here or there, but never like I used to…heh.”
She lifted her head back up and rubbed the back of her neck. “Sorry, probably ruined your image of a pro hero there…but I like to be honest. I’m no media whore, but I do got an ego on me. I ain’t perfect, but who is huh?” She looked to the waitress who arrived with the pitcher and two glasses. Mia waited for her to walk away before picking the pitcher up and drinking from it like a glass. “Aaaah…much better.”

As Kenshin spoke and Mia listened, he listened to what she had to say as well. He was surprised to hear that she had been caught by the police in the past. She then commented on how not all heroes could make the decision to retire for the sake of family like Kenshin's mom did. It made sense. Not all heroes, or people for that matter, valued the importance of family. Kenshin could understand both sides. Kenshin smiled when she agreed that he was doing well without UA. "Yeah, who needs a hero school? No offense to UA, but my mom didn't need a school to kick criminal ass, and neither do I." Of course, Kenshin would leave his options open just in case he ever did want to change his mind. Kenshin then noticed a waitress. Crap, this place has waitresses? He had just gone to the front and asked for water when he arrived at the cafe. Kenshin felt like a massive idiot. He was too excited for the heroine to show up to bother checking properly. Oh well. He decided to apologize if someone brought it up. Otherwise, it was best to just not make a big deal about it. It was a massive relief to hear that Mia did not mind his rambling. She even praised him for being a good person, which made the boy smile. Then she decided to talk about her own reasons for being a hero. It was a shame that her reasons for being a hero were not as noble as his mother's. She apparently cared more about the fights. On one hand, this did kind of lower his opinion of the heroine a bit. However, he could not entirely blame her. On some level, he could relate to that. He loved fighting as well. He loved the thrill of battling tough but fair opponents. "It's okay. I'm a bit of the same, to be honest. While it's true that I ultimately want to follow in my mom's footsteps and become a hero that serves the people, I do enjoy an awesome fight as well. The sheer thrill of a battle excites me. I just love fighting a strong opponent who also fights with honor. My mom actually scolded me multiple times in the past about this. She says I go looking for fights too often, and that I should be focusing on getting stronger to better protect people, not to pick fights with strong opponents." Kenshin could not help but chuckle. "As you said, who is perfect?"Kenshin thanked the waitress who had arrived with a pitcher of juice and two cups. He did not really feel like drinking any juice, seeing as he already had water earlier. So when Mia took the pitcher itself and drank from it, Kenshin had no complaints. Instead, the boy took his nearly empty cup of water and raised the glass. "Here's to us awesome asskicking badasses who love saving people and fighting a good fight!" Kenshin then lightly bumped his cup against the pitcher Mia was holding before finishing his glass of water. That was probably corny as hell, but to Kenshin, it was awesome. | Word count: 532

When Kenshin was telling him it was okay that she loved a good fight, she waved her hands a little to make sure he wasn’t getting the wrong idea, maybe interrupting him just a little but not wanting to be read wrong. “Don’t get me wrong kid, its why I got into it, and its still a big part of why I do it now, but its like…er…” She tried to think of a good analogy, tipping her head back and trying to think about it. “Okay like imagine getting a new games console. You might get it for that one exclusive game you always wanted to play, but when you get to playing it, you realize how good the controller feels in your hand, how fast the console feels when you play your game, you notice there’s a few other exclusives you like. That’s hero work for me. I mean I could easily quit and join some underground quirk fighting ring and just fight for money, heck I might be a little better off financially because of it, but that ain’t what I’d do, cause now that I’ve done it, I do genuinely love helpin’ people. I ain’t quite your mom but-“
She was interrupted by the moment the waitress brought her pitcher. It seemed the place was joint service, just a waitress checking for refills or small orders while you could totally go up to the front if you wanted anything. She thanked the waitress and even met Kenshin in his little cheers with their respective drink containers, sipping away before she continued.
“Buuut as I was saying, I do love the job. Like…if your mom was the kind to just help people out of the goodness of her heart, I wasn’t that way initially, but I am now, and as a hero I got a second goal…” She took another sip of her Pitcher and lowered it onto the table, chuckling a little at herself before she continued. “Not to get all tragic backstory on you, but I grew up in a very Christian state. My dad was a hairy sasquatch, my little brother was dragon like so he could breathe fire, and my big sis well…you get the theme, she was some mythical creature physiology too. For me though I was the demon child. I had a big ass red horn, I was a head above even the boys in my classes, but there was always a class above me so I got picked on a lot. It taught me to fight, it taught me rage, it made me the monster I am today, and ya know if I’m completely honest I’d go through it all again if the person I am now is the end result…but my goal as a hero stems from it too.”
She crossed her arms and held a soft but proud smile as she recited her intensions as a hero to the boy before her. “I wanna help, above all else, quirkers to feel good about themselves. I don’t care how shitty they think their quirk is, how many quirkest assholes think they’re useless and worthless, I want everyone out there with a quirk to realize how amazing and unique they are. I had the strength and rage to push through my trouble years and own the monster I am, but not everyone can do that, and I wanna make sure I can. If people can look on TV and see what is, lets be honest-“ She gestured over herself, purposely letting her muscles bulk up to the point they strained her top a little bit. “A monster, standing atop a tower of criminals, pounding her chest and roaring with pride…I’d like to hope it changes how at least a few of them think about themselves in this fucked up world…that’s my goal as a hero. Helping people, I love it, but truly, at the core of it, I’m here to give every quirker who’s been told they’re a monster a hero. A hero who says yeah, you’re a monster, and it is freakin’ amazing.”
She chuckled at herself and lifted her pitcher again, shaking her head. “Sorry…sorta rambled there…” She took about two glasses worth of the juice into herself with several heavy gulps before taking a deep breath. “Ya know kid, when they let you, I’d re-apply to UA. Sure, maybe you won’t be able to work as a vigilante for 3 years, but you’ll come out knowing a lot more than I did. I had to take first aid courses and I still get told off for being too reckless from the higher ups now and then…” She chuckled again and looked Kenshin in the eye. “I got an ego to protect, but if there’s one thing I can admit, its that I want the next generation of heroes to be better than me, cause when I’m outta the game, the kids out there need a new set of heroes to show them what they can do.” She smirked a little brighter and added with a wide grin. “Heck, you re-apply next year? Gimme a call, stop by my office or something. I’d be more than happy to give a kid like you a recommendation, might help you get past whatever you failed on last time yeah?”

Kenshin listened as Mia explained that despite her love for fighting, it was not the biggest reason she fought villains today. She even used a video game analogy. Kenshin smiled. "Yeah, I get that. That's what I like about you that I dislike about some pro heroes and vigilantes. It's fine to love and enjoy the good fight, but you don't prioritize that over saving lives. At the end of the day, that's what truly matters above all else, and you're one of the heroes that actually gets that."As Mia explained some of her backstory, Kenshin felt bad for her. Jeez, why were people so judgmental? It reminded him of Kumoko, the poor spider girl he and G met at the park. She was picked on by those thugs all because her head was a giant spider. Kenshin hated people who picked on others for being different. Even in this day and age of quirks, it seemed as though the worst of human nature could never change. Still, it made the boy smile that Mia did not let those people keep her down. Even better, she wanted to other people with quirks feel better about themselves. If Kenshin did not fully respect Mia before, he did now. "Damn. It sucks that you had to go through that, but I'm happy you came out better for it. I'm even happier to know that you want to help people feel good about themselves. I just wish that everyone had that kind of thinking, rather than the quirkcist bullshit that's still prevalent in this day and age. I just don't get why people can hate others just for being different. People with quirks aren't monsters. Bullies and assholes who try to put others down for being different. Those types of scumbags are the real monsters!"When Mia apologized for rambling, Kenshin just smiled and assured the heroine that it was fine. "Don't worry about it. I always enjoy listening and talking about stuff like this." Speaking of listening, Kenshin listened as Mia suggested reapplying to UA. Apparently, she wanted the next generation of heroes to be better than her. It made sense. She was not going to be around forever, and there needed to be more powerful heroes to fill in the gap. She even offered to give the boy a recommendation. "Thank you, Mia! I'll consider it. And if I do join UA, I'll become an awesome hero like you." In truth, Kenshin still did not know if he even wanted to attend the hero school. The pro hero did have a point, though. Kenshin could get stronger in UA. As good as Kenshin's mother was, she might have been even better if she had a UA equivalent back in her time. Who knew? Until Kenshin could figure out the answer of whether or not to give the hero school another try, he would just stick to doing what he had always done. Saving people, honing his skills, and beating down on criminals and scumbags who try to hurt others. | Word count: 509

Mia smirked a little bit as he mentioned what he disliked about some of the other pros. Shrugging along a little. She could never personally dis the other heroes beyond some light playful teasing. Sure she’d diss Darkshine for seeming like a bit of a snobby media whore in her eyes, but Mia herself wasn’t exactly camera shy herself. In her eyes, so long as they did good and stopped crime, and didn’t cause it, they were still doing good in the end, even for the wrong reasons. In Mia’s eyes, maybe to justify her own feelings, every person was selfish at the core, and even the best of actions were to relieve potential guilt or let someone feel better about themselves, so she didn’t wanna shoot someone down who acted like that. “Yeah I get that, I mean, like I said, get into the game for whatever reason you want, but you better stay in it to be a hero. You can go any number of places for a good fight. Heck you can become a villain, but being a hero is way more than that, and ya always gotta make sure the good outweighs the bad.” She lifted her pitcher in a cheers motion before taking another juicy, hefty swig.
With his response to her backstory, she gave a little shrug and smirked as he said he was happy for her, sticking out her tongue between her prominent fangs and giving a cheeky little snicker. “Yeah yeah, tragic backstory over, no need to keep things a downer. Thanks for seein’ it in a good light for me. Sure there are some quirkest assholes out there, but why focus on them? It ain’t worth the energy. I’ll beat up the odd asshole if they try and be like, a terrorist about it, but the comments they make? Heck half the time they empower me, and if they make me angry…” She smirked a little wider and bared her fangs a little, her tusks extending a little over her top lip as her muscles tensed with a low growl to punctuate her words. “I’ll use that rage and shove my heroic ass in their faces.~”
She calmed down pretty quickly with a long breath, sharing a smile with Kenshin and nodding along as he said not to worry about it, glad as they moved on that Kenshin was considering at least trying for UA again, or considering it in the future. Giving him a bright grin she bowed her head a little. “Good, I hope you get in next time. Three years of keeping your nose clean could be worth it to make sure you can truly be of aid to people in the future. I can joke about the regulations us heroes gotta follow till the cows come home, but sometimes, they’re needed, even I can admit that, to remove doubt in the justice we dish out. Never want a criminal getting off scot free cause a judge decided you were too viscious taken’ ‘em in yeah?”
