The boy smiled and nodded in agreement. Mia did have a good point. Regardless of origin, all true heroes had the same destination: to protect the people from criminals and scumbags. As long as they did everything in their power to stay on that road of justice till the end, that was all that mattered. That was what separated the true heroes from the fakes. That was why Kenshin admired vigilantes and why he could never understand why the government seemed so insistent on treating them in the same vein as criminals. Once again, Mia brought up another good point. Why worry about what the quirkist assholes think? Kenshin found the fact that Mia gets empowered and motivated by the idiotic comments to be quite admirable. Rather than letting the hate keep her down, she instead takes that hate and uses it as fuel to keep herself going strong. Kenshin was similar himself. If anyone insulted or made fun of him, the boy would just ignore it, or even laugh at them, knowing that nothing they tried would be able to get under his skin. The only issue he had was when someone else was made fun of. Then Kenshin would go into ass-kicking mode. Back on the topic of UA, Kenshin listened as Mia talked about how staying in school could be worth it to ensure the boy could truly be of aid to the people in the future. Kenshin nodded and he agreed with the regulations part. Despite some regulations being plain stupid, they were in place for a reason. And it was true that sometimes, criminals would go free because a regulation or two was broken. "You're right with that. It's such bullshit when that happens, but it does. And even though the government and police do and say stupid things at times, at the end of the day, they do have the people's interests at heart." Kenshin sighed. "I just wish I could say with absolute certainty that ditching vigilantism to pursue UA is the right thing to do for me. I still have my doubts about that. But at the end of the day, saving people and stopping criminals is what I really want to do. Maybe UA could help me with that. I suppose there's nothing wrong with giving it an honest shot, right?"Then, three of the waitresses walked to their table. All of them lookied shy and nervous. One of the waitresses stammered as she spoke. "M-m-miss Red H-Horn! W-we are HUGE fans of yours! I-I was j-just wondering... C-could we please h-have your autograph?" Kenshin wasn't too surprised that something like this would happen. After all, Mia was a pro hero. Kenshin could not blame the girls. In truth, the boy could relate. The heroine is pretty cool, after all. Kenshin decided to just sit back and watch, letting Mia handle this. The boy did not want to be in the way. | Word count: 491

Mia was glad to hear that Kenshin was willing to at least give it an honest shot, lifting her pitcher in salute of this. She knew it wasn’t perfect, but nothing was in this world. 3 years of not being a hero…or being an extra sneaky vigilante, and then Kenshin would be able to do it all out in the open. She actually chuckled a little as she remembered something and shook her head. “Just remember this, I’ve been hearing through the grapevine you students might have the potential to get provisional licenses, soooo, if a pro hero like me approved it, you might be able to do hero work after one year rather than 3…just think about it eh?~” She offered a sly wink as she sipped from her pitcher, definitely one to stick to her word on such matters, and more than happy to help someone like Kenshin out if he showed the dedication needed to get a provisional license in the first place. She was already willing to hide his vigilante work afterall, so why not help him be a hero before it was his time?
Her eyes dipped to the waitresses, she’d actually felt her pointed ears twitching to them murmuring something including her name, both her real one and her hero title, but she’d assumed it was just another table or something rather than three raving fangirls. Though, Mia said raving internally, and regardless she absolutely loved fangirls whatever their breed. A solid boost to her ego was never unwelcomed and she opened her arms, purposely putting on a mild bit of bulk in her arms as she opened herself up to their squeezing approach. “That’d be me girls! An autograph? My pleasure!” She stood up and rather confidently pulled the notepad one of the girls used to take notes out of her breast pocket, offering a sly wink and standing between the three of them casually using one of the pages to write her autograph. “I’m gonna guess you all want one each? Any special messages?~”
“Oh oh!” One of the exceptionally eager girls in the group chimed up and got in close, practically pressing herself into Mia’s bicep as she tried to watch Mia make the autograph. “C-can you put something cool? Like-“
Mia interrupted with a smirk as she begun writing. “To a pretty pretty fan.” She signed off with her name in english rather than Kanji, having trained to make her autograph interesting and the N at the end of Red Horn was drawn like the final line was her horn, with an angry eye made out of the rounded top of the first R. She tore out the pages of the notebook so the torn top would act as a sign of her more ferocious nature, handing it across before she finally started to write the next one, smirking to Kenshin who likely sat their bored, gesturing to him as she wrote the next one and spoke.
“Ya know girls, this guy here just helped me take down my last set of criminals. Bloody OWNED this four armed creep trying to rob some old lass’s jewellery store...I’m sure he wouldn’t mind recounting the tale.~” She shot Kenshin a smirk as she hoped the fangirls would react well to her inciting words.

Despite being a vigilante, Kenshin did in fact consider looking into becoming a hero in the past. It's why he bothered applying to UA in the first place. Despite the rejection and the bitter feelings that came with it, the boy was honestly not entirely opposed to the idea of just quitting vigilantism to pursue heroism one day. He just was not sure whether to actually do it or not. After all, being a vigilante did have its benefits, and becoming a UA student would mean he would lose said benefits. Kenshin supposed that only time would tell whether or not joining UA would be worth it in the end. There was one benefit to joining the school, besides not having to worry as much about the police. A while ago, Kenshin met and befriended a UA student. The student was Miku Hanabira, adopted daughter of the badass vigilante Kenshin had met and admired. After having a conversation about UA with the girl (as well as bonding a bit havine worked together to take down a troublemaker), Kenshin began thinking more and more about the possibility of joining Miku at the school. It would be nice to be a part of a school where he actually had a friend for once, rather than being all alone as he had always been. Mia talked about the possibility of Kenshin being able to get a provisional license in three years, or possibly even just one. With one of those, Kenshin would no longer have to sneak around and worry about getting unwanted attention from the law. He could kick criminal ass out in the open. The boy had to admit that it did sound nice. He still was not completely sold, but maybe that would one day change. His thoughts on UA and heroism versus vigilantism were interrupted when the three waitresses arrived to ask for an autograph. Kenshin watched as Mia signed on the notepad. Kenshin was impressed with the way Mia wrote her hero name. So freaking badass! The boy would not ask Mia for an autograph, but he secretly hoped that Mia would give one to him. Not that he would complain if she didn't. Just having been able to meet her and fight alongside her was more than enough to satisfy Kenshin. All three waitresses looked as though they had just won the lottery or had found a treasure chest full of gold. Then again, the autograph was a treasure to them. "OH! MY! GOD! Thank you so much! You're so awesome!" Kenshin smiled seeing their enthusiasm. It was very nice, and very sweet of Mia to make the waitresses' day like this. However, Kenshin's smile faded when Mia began to bring him to the spotlight. She told the waitresses about the four-armed toad thug he took down earlier. She even suggested Kenshin tell the girls all about it. While Kenshin looked away in embarrassment, the three waitresses looked surprised. "Oh my god! Did you really do that! That is so awesome! Tell us everything, please!" Kenshin sighed. There was no way he would be able to get out of this one, was there? The boy began to speak, telling the waitresses what happened. "Well you see, it started like this...." | Word count: 543

Mia was glad she could make the girl’s day, and having such enthusiastic fans was certainly a boost to her own ego, which she was never ever against. Signing the last two their autographs, personalizing each of their messages a little (even if she’d possibly used the same words before in autographs in the past, though really there were only so many combinations of the English language in existance. Or the Japanese language for that matter. With all 3 girls holding her name on a torn-edged piece of notebook paper, Mia casually slid the notebook itself back into the girl’s breast pocket with a smirk and moved to sit next to Kenshin as they all eagerly gathered around to hear his version of events.
Presumably it started as it should with him spotting Mia chasing down the goons across the park, something Mia was maybe hyping up a little in her head from the hectic chase it had been where she was lagging behind, but whatever version Kenshin told, she wouldn’t interrupt, UNTIL the kid seemed like he was about to mention himself entering the scene. Hooking an arm around the back of his neck to both catch him off guard and express comradery between the two, she interrupted him in a way aimed to both hype him up even more and hide his true identity from the girls, just incase any of them blabbed and got him in trouble.
“Yeah he saw me a ways off, and he moved faster than I thought any kid could without a quirk! I dunno what gave him the balls but he rushed into the face of the toad guy and suddenly I was able to close the distance. The guy with eye beams blasted me with this ray that nearly burned my arm-“ She exaggerated, the beam really doing little more than give her a sensation similar to a very bad case of pins and needles where it had struck her skin so openly. “But while I was handling him and distracted, this guy here was a total badass! He rushed into the 6 armed dude and was duckin’ and weavin’ like a trained expert. Before I knew it battle toad dude was down for the count and I hadn’t even gotten to see most of the fight!” Sure it was all technically a lie, but as Mia shot Kenshin a look, she hoped he’d understand she was just trying to keep him safe by lying about the fact he’d not used his quirk. Afterall, stopping criminals was technically legal, so long as you didn’t use your quirk to enact the force needed.
Still she beefed him up a little more, holding the sides of his arms and practically presenting him to the girls. Odds were in her favour that at least one of them was gay, but they lay somewhere between her age and Kenshin’s own, so she was much more eager to give their attention to them. “I’m tellin’ ya ladies. This kid’s a proper hero in the making. Takin’ down a guy like that without a quirk? Doubt even I was that badass at his age!~”

Kenshin began telling the waitresses what had happened. He was just taking a walk in the park, when he heard the commotion. The boy saw the heroine chase after two thugs who apparently robbed a store. Before he could say any more, Kenshin was surprised to see Mia suddenly interrupt the story. She began to describe how Kenshin rushed into action, seemingly without a quirk. Wait, what? Kenshin was confused. Why was Mia making the boy seem more of a badass than he actually was? When Mia shot Kenshin a look, it suddenly dawned upon him that Mia was intentionally leaving out the parts that involved his quirk. Ah right, of course. Babbling about his transformation would have been an incredibly stupid thing for him to do. Not that he was going to mention it anyway, but still. There was no need to let anyone know that he was the vigilante Red Edge. With the waitresses listening, Kenshin could not say anything out loud that would end up exposing the lie, but he smiled at Mia to express his gratitude. As the boy sat quietly, he was surprised when Mia suddenly held the sides of his arms and basically presented him to the ladies. Kenshin was just confused at this point. One of the waitresses smiled at him. "For someone as young as you, you're definitely one pretty awesome kid!" As she ruffled his hair, Kenshin just looked away and muttered. "I'm not that young. I'm fourteen." The poor boy was not used to all this attention. How did the pro hero deal with all this attention? If this was what being a pro hero was going to be like, then maybe sticking to vigilantism would not be too bad of an idea after all. Another waitress put her hand on Kenshin's shoulder. "It's okay. There's no need to be so modest. You're a cool little guy, and I know that if you wanted to, you could follow in Red Horn's footsteps and become an amazing hero, too!" Upon hearing this, Kenshin's face lit up as he smiled. "Thank you for those kind and encouraging words, madam."The third waitress, the youngest of the bunch and the one who asked for Mia's autograph first, took out her notepad and pen. "Is it too much if I can get your autograph, too? Anyone who can kick ass alongside Red Horn is a certified badass in my opinion. Even if you don't become a hero in the future, I still want to have something to remember you by. Please?" The other two waitresses suddenly became excited and asked if they could get autographs as well. Okay, now this was getting to be a bit too much for the boy. He could accept praise, but autographs? Still, how could he say no to the admittedly cute waitress and her friends? As Kenshin took the pen and paper and began to write, he just looked at Mia and laughed nervously. "So, is this the sort of thing you get to do every day?" | Word count: 509

Mia snickered a little to herself as she watched Kenshin handle his new little fans. Odds were that the girls wouldn’t remember him for too long despite their words, but the young one would probably have him on the brain for a few weeks at least especially with that autograph. Mia herself used the chance of Kenshin writing down his name to let her eyes wash over the girls, wondering which one of them still had an eye on her. One of them briefly glanced her way, but didn’t look her in the eye. Instead Mia caught her glancing at her own Bicep before looking away with a blush, Mia making a mental note it was the one with the green hair who had a thing for her. Assuming the other two didn’t too of course. She didn’t dare speak up about it right now, but she made a note incase she ever wanted to come back.
She was brought back to reality by Kenshin’s question, looking to the boy and realizing he was talking to her, chuckling and shaking her head as she leaned along the back of his seat, eyeing the autograph he was making and watching how he did. “Eeeeh here in Japan I get this like, once a week at least. Not too often, but once a week at the very least. Also gotta deal with asshole quirkests who think I represent everything wrong with the world though so there is that.” She ruffled Kenshin’s hair playfully as he handed off the autograph to his new fan, smirking nice and bright as she added. “Loooads better than back in Texas though. The closes I got to celebrity treatment was people throwing bibles at me when they were calling me a demon or a devil child. This is muuuch better.”

As Kenshin wrote, he listened to what Mia had to say. He was surprised that the heroine did this at least once a week. Was every pro hero expected to do this sort of thing? Kenshin could not honestly see himself doing this sort of thing all the time. Saving people and stopping criminals were far more important to the boy than fame and autographs. Still, he did enjoy putting smiles on people's faces whenever he did good. If having to sign autographs was something the boy would eventually have to do if he did choose to walk down the path of a hero, then so be it. Still, the boy was determined not to let the fame, if any, go to his head. Protecting the people must always come first. Upon hearing what Mia had to go through back in Texas, Kenshin began to shake his head. Why were people so stupid and judgmental? "Those stupid idiots. Again, it sucks that you had to go through that prejudice and bullshit. People will always be people no matter the day and age, huh?" Kenshin sighed, and then a smile showed on his face. "Joke's on those stupid haters, though. You ended up becoming a respected badass heroine! And in my own personal opinion, the horn makes you look even cooler."As Kenshin gave the autographs to the waitresses, they all nodded in agreement. "Yeah, what he said! Red Horn, haters like that aren't worth listening to, ever. You're a wonderful heroine and a beautiful person inside and out, and nothing can ever change that. Stay awesome!"As the two other waitresses agreed with her, Kenshin began to smile. Despite the hateful, ungrateful, and quirkist idiots in the world, there were also the kindhearted and respectful individuals who always made the boy smile. Kenshin was determined to do everything in his power to protect the good people from the shitheads who tried to ruin everything around them. Whether as a vigilante or a hero, Kenshin's goal would remain the same. Suddenly, his phone began to vibrate. Kenshin visibly flinched, not expecting it. Taking it out, Kenshin saw that it was his mother calling him. The boy was shocked when he also saw the time on his phone. Holy shit! Had his conversation with Mia really lasted that long? His mother was undoubtedly calling him due to the fact that he should have been home by now. "Excuse me for a minute. I really need to take this call. Sorry!" Kenshin then answered the call, putting the phone close to his ear, and hoping that the call would not take too long. Kenshin began to talk quietly. "Mother, before you say anything, I can explain. Trust me, this is gonna blow your mind. You won't believe who I'm with right now!" | Word count: 469

Mia snickered as he called the Texans who’d bullied her in her younger years stupid idiots. Yeah they were, and to be honest even with her slight bit of pride for where she grew up she couldn’t defend them, even to herself. She realized more and more since she moved all the pride she thought she felt for her home state was actually just pride in the people she enjoyed there, and that was mainly her family, and someone she considered family, her old mentor Hughard, and he still visited her from time to time. She raised a finger as he implied the joke was on them though, shaking her head with a smirk behind it. “Hold up kid. Ya never rub it in the face of your haters too early. Far as I’m concerned, right now, they ain’t got anything to see in me that’s gonna make them feel like idiots. Right now I ain’t even on the hero ranking boards. BUT.” She clenched her fist tight, and pumped it into herself, her grin much bigger, and buffing herself up a little to show her determination, her tusks extending a little bit over her top lip even as she grinned so wide. “When I’m number one? That’s when I let those buggers know they had it wrong about me! Cause then they’ll really have a punch to the gut realizing what I’ve made of myself despite them!”
Mia wasn’t a spiteful girl by any means, but by hell, was it gonna be a good day, picturing the faces of those who supported her, and those who hated her, when she hit number 1.
Turning her eyes to the waitress, she chuckled a little and offered her a smile, her muscles rapidly going back down to her more relaxed state. “Aw thanks hun. I dunno about the whole beautiful think, I more like to think-…” She gestured loosely with her right hand as she tried to think of a word, before brushing her thumb against her jawline with a cheeky smirk. “Dashing.~” She offered a brief wink at that, and she was pretty sure one of the girls briefly got light headed. Sadly, her mini-fandom couldn’t go on forever, the oldest of the girls clearing her throat and turning to the other girls.
“C-come on girls. We shouldn’t bother Red Horn too much, and we have other customers to see to!” She nodded her head with a little ‘huff’ sound, and the two other girls quickly sharpened up, Mia chuckling a little and waving them off as they went to finally serve their other tables. She’d have to remember to come here to celebrate some big crime stopping or something in the future, given how eager the girls where as fans it’d probably act as just the ego stroke she needed after such an act.
Still, she was here to meet the kid beside her, and giving him some room just to let him feel more comfortable, when his phone rang. Mia pulled back a little, but held her hands up when he said he needed to take the call, more than willing to give him his privacy. “Don’t you worry about it kid, I’ll be quiet.”
Or so she would have been, if Kenshin hadn’t have made it very clear he was talking to his mother. With a shit eating grin, he rounded up over his shoulder, rather loudly talking across Kenshin’s face and towards the receiver, loud enough to likely be heard but not so loud it would have hurt Kenshin’s ears. “Hey Kenshin’s mom! Your kid ain’t even asked for my autograph yet! Very naughty of him!” She chuckled and giggled to herself, showing a bit of her more jock-ish kinda humor as she tried to keep talking down the line and interrupting his call. “He had three girls all over him a second ago! You gotta sort him out!”

Mia did have a good point. Telling the haters to suck it too soon was just asking for trouble, ridicule, and disappointment. Kenshin was surprised to hear that Mia was not yet on the hero ranking boards. Kenshin rolled his eyes. What a bunch of morons. Did they really not have a true hero on their stupid list? Still, it did not matter at the end of the day. True heroes cared not for popularity and rankings, but for doing actual hero work, like saving lives, protecting people, stopping crimes, and putting villains behind bars. Before Kenshin's phone rang, he saw the waitresses leaving to go back to work. Ah right. Kenshin forgot that they were in the middle of their shift. No doubt that their boss would be very upset if the three had stayed talking with Mia. Still, at least they got to meet the heroine, and even got her autograph. Kenshin was happy for them. If their boss did yell at them for keeping customers waiting, then at least it was worth it. As Kenshin talked on the phone and explained to his mother about helping out Red Horn, Mia suddenly talked loudly on the phone. Not expecting that at all, the startled boy visibly flinched. "What the fuck?!"Kenshin just sat there and stared in shock as Mia began talking to Kenshin's mother. He then began laughing when she brought up the waitresses. Kenshin quickly spoke on the phone before his mother jumped to conclusions. "It's not like that, I swear! They were interested in Red Horn, not me!" Kenshin could hear his mom's laughter on the phone. After Kenshin's mother thanked Mia for looking out for Kenshin, she jokingly apologized to the pro hero for her having to deal with her troublesome boy. Kenshin chuckled as he rolled his eyes. "Gee, thanks mom. I appreciate your support." Afterwards, she told Kenshin to get home soon, and also to ask the heroine for the autograph. "I will, don't worry. Okay, see you at home, mother. Bye!" With that, Kenshin hung up the phone. Sighing, Kenshin looked to Mia. "It's getting late. As much as I enjoyed hanging out with you, I don't want my mother to kill me. I mean, she might kill me anyway, but still." Getting up, Kenshin shook the heroine's hand. "Thank you so much again. It was a pleasure getting to talk with you and kicking criminal ass with you."Of course, there was one more thing he needed to do before leaving the cafe. "Before I go, may I please get your autograph?" Honestly, Kenshin did not mind if Mia said no. Just getting to spend time with her was enough for the boy. Memories were far more valuable than paper, after all. Still, it wouldn't hurt to try, right? | Word count: 469

Mia snickered as the mom started replying, Kenshin presumably putting her on speaker phone so Mia could hear what was being said. She definitely sounded sweetly protective, kinda like her own mother had been before she realized Mia could handle herself better than most. Kinda like how she was now with Mia’s brother Mark. Poor little bother, ever the runt of the litter. Still, Mia was sweet enough to pull it back while still teasing Kenshin a little. “Don’t worry mrs Kenshin’s mom your kid is in good hands.~” She offered a cheeky wink to Kenshin before letting him majorly hold the conversation with his mother, resting back in her seat. When he said he should be going soon, Mia couldn’t deny that. It was still mid-early noon, but for some kids that could be a little late to be out alone, especially if the kid lived far away.
“Yeah no worries. I should start moving myself. I mean even if I’m able to leap meters at a time, I still need some time to get across town…got a shift on a stake out I gotta get to. Gonna be a boring night most likely but hey, ya never know. Gotta keep a vigilante eye and all.” She offered a light smile before starting to get up, stopping herself as he asked his last request. Snickering a little, she sat back down and started looking around for something to write on, still having a pen from the waitresses, but not the notepad. “Er…Napkin do? OH!” Changing her mind, she reached deep into her pocket and pulling out a small card, clearly a business card for her offices, with her number and the address of her office. She signed the empty back of it nice and clearly, before offering it across between her two fingers. “There. Ya can even call me with it if ya see anything you can’t handle on your own. Not that I think ya will. Ya definitely got skill kid.~”

It seemed as though Mia had to leave soon as well. It was a shame, but it was understandable. Heroes were always busy. Places to go, people to save. Still, it was fun while it lasted. This was one meeting Kenshin would never forget. As Mia took out a pen, Kenshin did not even bother hiding his excitement. Holy shit, yes! Kenshin could not wait to show the autograph to his little brother and tell him all about Red Horn. Sai would be amazed beyond words! An actual autograph from an actual heroine! How awesome was that?! Even better, Mia signed the back of a business card and handed that to the boy. Now he could call the pro hero. Kenshin's fingers trembled with excitement as he took the card and carefully put it in his pocket. It was like a treasure the boy would guard with his life. "Thank you so much!" It took the boy all he had not to squeal like an excited fangirl right then and there. Before heading off, Kenshin waved at the heroine. "See you around, Red Horn!" Kenshin hoped that they would get to hang out again someday. Even better if the two got to fight together again. Woe to any criminal who had the misfortune to face off against Red Horn and Red Edge. After the farewell, it was sadly time to go. Walking out the door of the cafe, Kenshin headed home. As he walked, Kenshin began to think about Mia's earlier advice, as well as what the boy wanted to do. Stay a vigilante, or try for UA again and become a hero? The boy did not yet have an answer to that question yet. Oh well, he'll figure it out eventually. Untill then, Kenshin would just continue to do what he's been doing. Keeping up with his schoolwork, getting better with both his sword training and his quirk, kicking criminal ass, and fanboying every time he saw the true heroes and heroines. | Word count: 333
