Cian had carefully put together a number of group rescue exercises with the opening of Semper Fi. Their rescue facilities were top notch and he wanted to use the opportunity to teach his classes a very valuable lesson. The school year was in full swing and it was time that he provided them with a big challenge. That in of itself was a big channel for Cian. He had to craft puzzles for the students to make creative use of their quirks and put them in a situation where they had t work together to complete the objective. This most important part of this class was learning to work together with people that didn't interact too much. He knew that some of the students knew each other, but he designed the groups to have from different classes. This way he could do his best to ensure they weren't too familiar with each other. It was a fun idea and he had a lot of fun putting together the courses for the students. And naturally, he couldn't help but place little mental bets on how each student was going to handle each situation.
Not all rescues took place where a lot of people were gathered. In fact, it could be argued that some of the most important rescued happened when very few people were around. When no one was around to help the other out and then a group was off on their own with no one else to communicate to. Rescues like these were always on a timetable. They were often reported late and if the people were in a dire situation, the rescuers were usually too late to be of help. Often, it was an expedition for the bod rather than going out to save a life. With the introduction of quirks, this didn't change too much. But as they grew in number the possibility of quirks to solve situations like this one also grew. Mountain rescue would have better outcomes and those lost and injured out in the wilderness could find help sooner.
The military had a rescue course set up for just that thing. It was their first one and used the land the base was around to create a natural course for this kind of rescue. Often the Japanese Special Defense Force had to make excursions out into nature like this because there was no one else that could do the job and only they had the equipment to help. The setup entailed a small forest are surrounding a quarry. It actually wasn't as big as it looked but felt much larger than it was due to the nature of the forest. A fence surrounded the area the class was going to take place in, so if a student got lost they could walk until they reached a fence and use it to get back to the start. And right next to the starting point was a marked off area the students were to bring the nine mannequin targets to confirm their rescue.
A mannequin was stuck in what could only be described as a treehouse that was in shambles. It could be seen laying on the base of the platform that served as the treehouse's porch. It wasn't any ordinary treehouse though. The ladder used to get up to it only rolled out with a special key used to open it from the base of the tree on its trunk. There was an emergency system to unlock it from below, but that too was hard to use a well. While climbing the tree was very difficult due to the smooth trunk, there was a single branch that could be hung from. And while hanging from the branch, if a student could somehow press four different buttons just above the branch on its own platform, the ladder would roll down. All four buttons had to be pressed at the same time while the student hung from the branch and that branch could only support one student at a time hanging from it.
Another mannequin was int he quarry. It was buried under some rocks that had rolled down over top of it. A small path under the rocks was the only way to access the mannequin without hurting it by moving too many of the rocks in the quarry that was over top of it. It was a long winding path that had to be crawled through. The twists and turns within it would stretch, pull, and twist a person and their back making it difficult and even painful for anyone with back problems.
At the center of the quarry was a pebble pit. A mannequin sat on top of it, laying there in what seemed to be the easiest rescue of them all. However, unlike the mannequin, the students weighed more and the moment they stepped onto the pebble pit, they would start to sink. It was much deeper than it looked and the base was ten meters down. The best way to climb out of the pit was to use the more sturdy sides to get out using the larger and more stable rocks. However, since the mannequin was in the middle of the pit, it wouldn't help it getting closer to it.
Another pit sat in the forest area. It too was a pretty deep pit and this one was laced with vines all the way down. These vines had a number of thorns that made climbing them or trying to use them to safely move down the pit very painful. And at the bottom of this pit was another mannequin. Students had to find a way to safely get down the pit without touching the sides to save the mannequin below. Either that or somehow use the vines in the pit to their advantage.
One of the more pressing matters was a small fire that was in the quarry. It was far away enough to not endanger the plant life that surrounded it, but a mannequin was stuck in a ring of fire that needed to be put out or avoided somehow. due to the dryness of the quarry, there wasn't really any water around that would put the fire out, and with the forest around it, it was dangerous to try and blow the flames out in certain directions because of the plant life.
A mannequin was wrapped up in vines high in a tree. It was hard to see but could be spotted be seeing the unnatural way the vines of a tree were wrapped around something. The mannequin wasn't too high in the air and the vines were soft enough to cushion any landing should they still be around the mannequin if it fell. The trees that served to hoist the thing up in the air were easily climbable, though the branches were relatively weak, so caution in moving about them was important.
Atop a large rock was another mannequin. This one was laying near the edge of the rock and could be seen from below. The rock had sheer sides that make it hard to climb without any way to secure a person to the rock. It was about nine meters tall but was stable on the ground and very heavy. The mannequin needed to be knocked off the rock somehow and caught to rescue it. Because it sat in the quarry, there wasn't much else that could be used to get to the same height as the rock so whatever the students did to save the mannequin had to be done from the ground.
On a section of the course where the quarry and forest meant, there was a mannequin laid up against a tree that needed to be rescued. It was among one of the areas that had a number of flowers growing on the ground that made it a bit hard to see. However, the flowers were releasing a lot of pollen into the air. This combined with the dust from the quarry made this particular part of the course very hard to breathe in. The air was dry and chalky and made it hard to stand in for too long, let around enough time to pick up a mannequin and rescue it. Trying to blow the problem away would only make things worse as the air would swirl in place in the section it was in. Between the trees and the rocks, that area was in such a way that the air flow was limited and stagnated. It made for an odd natural deathtrap for those with allergies and issues breathing.
The final mannequin was near the edge of the course, close to a fence just under a hill. It laid with its back on the grassy knoll and facing upward. A dead tree had fallen and trapped the mannequin underneath it. It was a heavy tree, one that wasn't going to be moved easily even with all three students working together. trying to move it too forcefully would end up injuring the mannequin in the process. So rolling the tree trunk was likely the best option, if the students could find a safe way to do so.
The class will end once all mannequins are rescued and brought back to the safety zone, or time runs out (the event ends and the topics closed). This is not an exam, but a class. Students are here to learn and practice, not compete with the other squads to do things the best way. Mistakes are allowed. The important thing here is for students to learn to work together for a common goal. Aside from the stuff in this opening post, the topic and setting are free to use and proceed as you wish. If you have any questions, contact me on the discord. From this point on the student shave free reign and I will not be replying to the topic unless needed for something specific and by request. Have fun with it!
