@sugo | ◀ | The heart is a heavy burden ❤ She had been very active up till now but had found a shadow spot to sit down and eat some of her lunch, well eat a bit lunch was considered an orange right now, she had also brought an apple and some other healthy snacks but as she did not eat much, she had a lot to eat at this point. After swimming, her hair finally dry and back up in a bun, and after running around and training hard at the other compound, she was done for. She felt like she would never be fit a hero if she was already dead tired from doing this, which was probably what would be the rest of her future.
She sighed loudly but not loud enough for anyone to hear her. She looked around at the people walking about, some she recognized from school but she quickly continued peeling her orange and heard someone about the shooting range and decided it might be coming in handy to have a look over there, she wasn't that bad with her aim but she mostly threw items to use for her quirk than actually aim from a longer range or whatsoever. She set up straight when she heard that there was a competition. No one should talk about competitions to Rowan Sakamoto, you didn't want the girl there with you, if she won, she would brag the whole time and if she lost, she would complain about that. Unless she had another goal in her mind such as with the food festival where she had not wanted to become last and she got third place, simply with luck though as she had probably not eaten too much and the idiots of what they called the Hunger Games, it still irritated her, had forgotten to count what people ate.
She got up, threw the orange peel in the right dustbin and put the last part in her mouth as she tried to find the right compound for it. She looked left and right and finally asked someone of the military for directions before heading over to a place where she had not been yet. She wasn't that tall, with her only 1.68 and not wearing heels as she came prepared, she tried to read and see what was going on. There was no one in the sort of hallway that was made there, was the competition more people, one person? Was she late? She had no idea and decided to wait at this place that looked like an entrance hallway until someone from the military showed up. |

The shooting range, a place where people were able to view weapons on display, test both technology and the meddle of their quirks. With supervision, of course. Masaki was already mucking about and wore his signature smile; at this point it was very practiced, he could do it on command if need be. There were several people crowding around a corner of the firing range, there was a sign regarding a small shooting competition going on at the range. It wasn't terribly specific, but it peaked Masaki's interest. Was it with quirks? Or just with rifles? Paintball? He wouldn't know until he investigated. Some signs read that there would be a small competition as well as showcase. Not that he needed to read it, someone was announcing it. "Ladies and gentlemen! Step on down to our little firing range, we have a little contest for a couple of buuuuraaaave~ competitors!" From what Masaki could see, there was a soldier announcing what all this was about. Reading the name, 'Yoshida', Masaki was able to enjoy the soldier's flavorful and playful performance. A small crowd amassed at the front of the range, mostly people walking by this little spot thanks to the announcement. Masaki, moved up to the front to get a better view. ”We’re having a little competition in these two lanes! You’ll get a chance to fire these bolt action rifles at the targets on the range. The most accurate shot wiiiins! But that’s not all~ “ Private Yoshida said, with all sorts of comedic emphasis in his performance. Afterwards, if you have a quirk… here’s your chance to… Flex! Your! Muscles! If you lost the first round, you can tie it up by striking the most targets in the shortest amount of time. If the loser manages to tie it up, then, we enter SUDDEN DEATH!Masaki liked the sound of it all. It was a chance to test out the firearms, which he had planned to do anyway. Aside from that, he felt his quirk was almost perfectly suited for this kind of contest. What did he have to lose other than a little pride? Stepping forward, Masaki said ”I’ll join.” Instantly, he started examining the range and the targets. There were very simple man-shaped targets already on display for the first round. The rifles were on the table, but Masaki didn’t know how to shoot it anyway. Hopefully, his competition didn’t either.”Oho~! I like the enthusiasm! Step right up hotshot!” Private Yoshida said to Masaki who moved to the table. Masaki was plain looking at this event; adorning a white t-shirt, blue jeans, and sneakers. ”We’re looking for one more. Step right up! How about you!” The soldier pointed into the crowd.

@sugo | ◀ | The heart is a heavy burden ❤ She heard a few voices and Rowan her curiousity sparked and she took a deep breath and opened a door. There was a shooting range and a lot more people than she had expected but they didn't seem to be all here for the competition. Some where waiting for the paintball experience, some wanted to try something else and others simply wanted to only see and not do. She heard a person announce the match and she quickly turned her golden eyes towards the person for more information. The way he spoke annoyed her, it was making fun of a language that she adored but on the other hand she could see why people found it funny and motivating. Rowan did not know exactly what to do, she wasn't that relatively small and she wasn't tall either so she mixed herself within the crowd to walk a bit forward.
She managed to get a bit in the middle, so she could see the soldier, she wouldn't be able to get any further into this crowd as they were standing all quite close to each other. But that was okay, she could hold up her hand in case he asked for volunteers. At this point she did not care about whatever it looked like, if she looked stupid or not, she wanted to join this competition and get better. The most accurate shot would win, that made sense but Rowan was glad to hear that there was a second part to it, her quirk could be of quite good use for that. She narrowed her eyes and wondered whta the other person would be, and how exicted this guy was compared to the diving instructors from before. They were not excited about the use for quirks.
She saw a few people dart back when the soldier mentioned Sudden Death, which only made her laugh, not that she did, but the thing was that it was just a thing of saying, some people their intelligence for foreign languages seemed to be missing. The good thing was that she was now visible in the crowd. She heard someone join and wanted to see who it was, it was a masculine voice that was a good thing, well let's say she liked that better than a competition with another girl because than her sense of losing would even be worse. That was said to say, that she already considered that she would be losing. She didn't plan to do that.
Rowan held up her hand as she noticed the announcer to look at her and she gave him a satisfying smile. As she got the approval, people made way for her, a crowd, an audience, how much fun.. not. She must look crazy with her knee length skirt with white and green patterns and her white blouse but she was sure she could handle this. If she had to dive in her skinny jeans, she could shoot in a skirt. Besides, she did plan to have pants as a hero suit, but nothing came to mind yet. Her eyes looked at Masaki, she didn't know him, she wasn't even sure if she made it up that he looked familiar. "Hi." She simply said and waited for the private to come over and explain a couple things. |

Masaki looked to the person who had risen their hand and also stepped up to the challenge. It was a slim, fair skinned girl with black hair and golden eyes. It hadn't bothered him at all that it was a girl against him, in his time at U.A. so far - looks were deceiving. At the very least, she seemed to confident if she stepped up into this challenge; it required a quirk in the second round to participate. She greeted him and he smiled at her. "Hi." He simply said before catching himself. "Oh, where are my manners. I'm Masaki, it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance."By the way he spoke, it should have been clear that Masaki was from a bit of a dignified and wealthy background. Be that as it may, the young man didn't tote it around or hold it above anyone. He preferred that it went unmentioned, but the flair of his accent was so ingrained into him that he could never successfully hide it from others. So, he didn't bother trying to. They would be brought over to the table and briefly taught how to fire the rifles and given the appropriate eye wear. He placed on the tinted lenses and started with the private. It was much simpler than he thought, but it was still rather intimidating. He hadn't fire a weapon before, but with the proper instruction he was getting the hang of it. Placed into a standing firing position, he was given the proper standing form. The grip was firmly in his right hand and the butt of the weapon was pressing into his shoulder. His left arm held the grip of the barrel. His head leaned over to aim with the site and both his eyes were open, as they focused to center the sight on the target. They would both be given time to get some practice shots in. So in the time after, Masaki decided to chat with the competition. "Are you from U.A.? You seem fairly young as well." Masaki asked and commented with a smile, hoping that his question wasn't unwelcome. He was trying to piece together what would bring her to such a challenge and this was the likely conclusion. "I'm a student there." Masaki added as he stepped to the side. -- ooc: Oh, feel free to use private Yoshida too. I just grabbed the funny one from the list for this, but we won't need to use him much

@sugo | ◀ | The heart is a heavy burden ❤ Now that she stared at the rifle, she wasn't so sure about what to do with it and if it was a good idea to sign up. However, she had already decided that it was necessary to get better at the circumstances given and that she should give up on her old life. She decided to say a friendly hi to the person who she would have the competition with and he looked... she did not know exactly how to describe it, she liked how he was dressed, so neatly and simple that it was really looking good. Rowan could appreciate that, there were too many nice girl clothing pieces that she never could make a decision. She still had made the decision to wear a skirt, this was actually to stop herself from jumping into rescue missions that would give her bad feelings again, but you could shoot, no matter what you were wearing. In case of a fight it was best to be dressed with a bulletproof vest but let not go there.
She wanted to introduce herself, because that was taught to her even if she did not like that as a child but now she was a bit too late, flabbergasted by the idea and the enthusiasm of Yoshida. "Oh sorry, I am Rowan, it is indeed a pleasure." She was charmed by this young man, she did not really know why, perhaps because there was no need for her to give herself a dumb feeling, it was going smoothly enough. Besides she got a feeling, by the way he apologized more or less for his manners, a word most people did not use, and the way he said it wa sa pleasure to make her acquaintance. It was very much more sophisticated than the meeting with Maxi or Nick, which had not been going smooth at all.
Yoshida asked them to step towards the table and asked the audience to come back later or to be quiet as a mouse because a shooting range was nothing funny and should not be making any distractions. He said that with a very stern face but laughed already shortly after that, making in a good way fun of the two that had signed up, "What a woman, in a skirt, this one might get very far." She laughed, she did not like jokes at her own cost but she noticed he did not mean bad. He wanted to ease the tension that was already stuck in her shoulders, she was afraid that she would do something badly. She took the instructions to heart, immediately remembering them as she was very serious about this.
She followed Masaki in a matter of seconds, Yoshida, trying to still keep the tension lightly, explained how the rifle worked and what would be the best thing. She made sure to stand properly, have enough control of her body and took up the rifle, she surely felt small now with that gun in her hands but it was not that big and it fitted fine. She basically copied Masaki his stance with the weapon in her own hands and the butt against her own shoulder.
She had first closed her right eye but Yoshida told her that you saw better with eyes open, old movies had it wrong and she nodded, turned both her eyes back to the target and took the first practice shot. The recoil that bumped against her shoulder did not feel very nice, but she gritted her teeth and did not say a thing. She looked at Masaki as he spoke to her and lowered the barrel to make sure to not hit someone accidentally, she was glad she was called young. Wasn't it this morning that she worried about wrinkles, already at the age of seventeen, it was a drama. "Yes, I arrived there about three weeks ago, it is sometimes tough to be an exchange student." She said with a short laugh, which was an honest one, perhaps the first she actually made.
OOC: Sorry I couldn't find the right Yoshida, but got him! There are like.. 3. |

Masaki smiled, cataloging the name Rowan and mentally linking it to a specific trait. In this case, it was her golden eyes; they stood out enough that Masaki couldn't really confuse her for anyone else thus far. Be that as it may, he hadn't learned much about her personality yet. She seemed reserved, but Masaki filed that assumption away due to her having just met her. He, on the other hand knew for a fact that he didn't have an exciting personality like some of his peers, so it took longer to warm up to him. Whether she did or not, was entirely up to her.
Watching her practice, Masaki was able to determine that she was about as skilled as he was; which wasn't supposed to say anything other than they were evenly matched here. He couldn't fire a rifle and the only thing he had going for him was that the way his quirk worked, he was a little more accurate than some others. Masaki hadn't realized she was wearing a dress until it was mentioned, but it was a good thing they were shooting from a standing position. He couldn't imagine it, but he assumed it would be difficult or awkward to crouch. Not that he had any experience with dresses to determine that.
Awaiting her reply, Masaki was pleased to hear that his conclusion was correct. She was a student, like him and it made sense that she was a foreigner; the name was a dead giveaway. He had never been an exchange student, so he couldn't comment on how tough it was. Erek Blackfyre, a fellow member of the Art Club, mentioned that he was also a foreigner. Though, he was much less approachable than Rowan appeared to be.
"I can't imagine your struggles, but I'm always here to help if I can." Masaki responded, offering a help in response to her statement about the challenges of being an exchange student. "But..." Masaki added with a brief pause. "We'll have to settle this first" he called her out .
While he attended the event for the learning experience, it's not like he wanted to lose this little contest. Besides, now Rowan had managed to pique his interest and he wanted to know a little more about her. Yoshida approached and thanked the group for their silence, announcing the start of the first contest. They would each approach one at a time, to ensure no confusion between their targets.
With that, it was just about time to start the little competition. Masaki stood to the side and opened his hand, gesturing that he would gladly allow her to take the first try. "Ladies first." Masaki smiled.

@sugo | ◀ | The heart is a heavy burden ❤ She did not know exactly how to socialize, because what would you expect to talk about on a shooting range. Probably about guns and aims and stuff and she wasn't entirely sure what to say about that, due to not having any experience. She could ask him about his quirk but she also felt that a topic like that, asked too much from people about things that they might not want to share and she did not want to make things awkward. She already herself felt awkward for picking this activity.
As she practiced, she felt the recoil and rubbed her shoulder and listened to Yoshida about some instructions and that you would have to get used to it more or less, which was not something that the rich girl liked but again; she would not complain now just grit her teeth and continue. She was glad though that Yoshida tried to make fun of her dress in a good way, not giving her a repremanding about wearing a dress to a military base. However, she was having a conversation with Masaki and she had to answer him, as she learned that he was a student from U.A. it only made more sense to ask about a quirk and especially because it was the second part of the contest, which made her atleast have a solid assumption about Masaki having a quirk before, now it was only more clear. "Oh that's very lovely, thank you. In which class are you?" she was curious, as she knew a handfull of people from the other classes, but of course most from 1-A.
She couldn't help but give a giggle about the way Masaki said they first had to settle this because that was true but even if she was someone that hated to lose, she was okay with it. That did not mean that she still did not want to win, but that was another point. She turned to look shortly at Yoshida who thanked the audience for being quiet before turning her golden eyes back at Masaki and noticed his gesture, such manners were lovely for Rowan and she gave him a genuine smile, "Thank you again." So she went towards the firing lane, the only one they used and prepared the rifle so she could shoot three times, she was sure she would miss, her quirk did not need to use anything like this, she would have to touch and throw specificially or just touch and run. Now that's what she wanted to make better, her aim and perhaps consider to get some weapon that she could use her quirk for. Right now she had to keep her hands quiet and not activate the thoughts for her quirk, else she would not even hit the target.
She shot three times, the first time she missed the target almost, hitting it on the man made structure that looked like a person where the hip would be, she had closed her eye accidentally and now understood again what Yoshida meant. She hit a second time, a bit more to the right and higher, where the stomach would be, correcting herself and hitting the diaphragm would be. Which was rather a good thing for herself, you couldn't be a great shooter at your first try. The recoil did hurt a lot and she was glad to put the rifle back on the safety pin and hand it back to Yoshida, rubbing her shoulder again. |

"Oh, I'm in class 1-B. I haven't been in the school very long myself, so I guess we have that in common." Masaki laughed after saying that. "Which class are you in?" he asked curiously. He could safely say that he knew people in all the classes now and wondered if she happened to know someone else, perhaps from the school's art club.
Standing a safe distance to the side, Masaki watched Rowan take each of her shots. He wasn't particularly nervous about taking his turn, he hadn't expected to win in the first place. But if there was anything to take away from his personality, it was usually that he was calm when challenged. Well, excluding that one time with Yumi with the rest of his club, but he didn't like to think about that.
Once she stepped away, Masaki smiled and stepped forward. "Well done!" Masaki exclaimed, his idea of competition was a strange one. It was unusual to praise your opponent, but as far as he knew; this was a friendly competition and a showcase. No reason to to get aggressive and bent out of shape like some other people he met at the school. Facing the range, he was handed an unloaded rifle, the same bolt-action hunting rifle he practiced with earlier. He pulled back its bolt and loaded precisely three rounds. Each, making a weak sliding noise. Sealing it shut, he remembered the standing arrangement; his feet were properly placed, and the butt of the rifle was back at his shoulder. Staring down the length of the barrel and using the sight, he breathed slowly.
It was quiet now and ahead of him was his target. His index carefully reached for the trigger and he held his breath, bracing himself for the recoil. The loud snap of rifle fire traveled, striking the distant target. It was clearly off-center, a decent body shot towards the right shoulder that would need adjusting. While how precise he was didn't translate all too well with firearms, the need for accuracy with his quirk was the likely culprit behind any success he would find here on the firing range. Pulling the bolt back, he released the empty casing and prepared to fire again.
Compensating for his last position, he dipped lower and left. not trying to be flashy and aiming for the head of the target. He held his breath once more and the ache in his shoulder was much more noticeable amid the silence. More confident than before, he pulled the trigger. It was another body shot, closer to where the liver would be. He repeated the previous steps. One more. he thought, holding his breath for the last shot. Re-aligning, he pulled the trigger for the last time and exhaled. Unloading the last casing and taking the necessary precautions, he handed the rifle off to Yoshida who proceeded to thank the audience for their patience and silence.
It was time to judge how they did and it gave the two competitors the chance to chat, while they set up for the next round. A much different second round, where he hoped to impress.

@sugo | ◀ | The heart is a heavy burden ❤ There were first things first, the thing was that she needed to not be so much focused on winning. The thing was that she was far too obsessed and if she wanted The Burning Lady to shut up in the back of her mind, she should start with that. She took a deep breath and simply had to focus on the conversation and thus asked Masaki in which class he was. 1-B, that explained why she had not seen him before, "I am in 1-A," she replied to an obvious question that would follow, she was just correct and answered after his own question. Still, it was nice to know more people, not considering if they were here long either or well not here but on U.A. She tried very hard to remember who was in 1-B but no name jumped up, not that she knew who was in which class but she knew a couple of people now that she expected to be in a specific class as long as they weren't in 1-A.
Rowan wasn't particularly satisfied with her shots but she smiled at Masaki for he said well done. It was better to be polite about it than complain. That's at least what she learned from her upbringing and she kept the nasty words about herself in the back of her mind, where someone basically spoke them already to her, but she ignored it as best as she could. She actually liked it that Masaki gave her a compliment, it made her far happier than not and that was perhaps exaggerating, but it worked more pleasant than the comments she would tell herself.
She stood aside to see Masaki shoot and almost held her breath completely until she noticed she was doing that and she let go to finally breathe again. She kept her golden eyes on the target to see and she wondered what they judged on and what it was all based on. Wasn't it dumb to teach teenagers shooting? She had no idea what Semper Fi and U.A. had in mind but it wasn't up to her to make that decision.
She had already handed back the rifle and she wanted to give Masaki a compliment as well, her mind was blank though,"Impressive." she said because he had remained so calm or well that is at least what it looked like while she freaked out in her mind. She would still rub her shoulder if it wasn't out of habit because the hurting feeling was already gone.
OOC: sorry for the delay, I randomly went away for the weekend and Uni drained me. 12 for the dice roll. |

With a twirl of his shoulder, his arm rotated to give it a much-needed stretch. He was nowhere near close to handling the recoil of a fire arm, but he had learned just enough to really prevent injury. As a matter of fact, consider this a lesson learned; after this Semper Fi event was over, he would probably never pick one up today. It was counter-productive to his style anyway or at least that was his excuse.
With the shooting range they fired upon cleared, their respective targets were finally brought forward. As a young man who always liked getting straight to the point, he wasted little time trying to get the results. He knew where he had shot, but he wasn't sure about his fellow competitor, Rowan. Yoshida pointed out the respective locations of each shot, Masaki anxiously awaited - more anxious then when he had fired the weapon itself. Of course, what he heard next left him feeling bitter and disappointed. It wasn't the end of the world, but Masaki was always harsh on himself when he failed to reach his own expectations.
"Our lovely female competitor is the winner of round one!" Yoshida exclaimed, garnering some applause.
Masaki wanted to win the challenge, but unfortunately lost. He put on a smile and applauded for Rowan, despite feeling a bit sore about his loss. Fortunately, this was a best of three competition Masaki reminded himself, not losing hope entirely. Rubbing the back of his head now, Masaki turned to face Rowan. "You're pretty good, but I don't plan on losing the next challenge." Masaki declared, trying to boost his own confidence. He needed to figure out a plan for the next round; planning was what he excelled at after all.
The stage was being set with nine targets; each was thirty centimeters in length, frail, and circular placed evenly apart in a variety of locations on the shooting range. This would be Round Two: the quirk challenge described from earlier. Yoshida began to speak again "Now, let's see how our fierce competitors do when they use their quirks." There was a brief pause as he went on to explain the course. "It will be simple, hit all the targets within the time limit. Whoever has the fastest time is the winner of round two. Will our leading competitor take it in two rounds or does the underdog still have some fight left in him? Let's find out!"
Masaki approached Yoshida, having to explain the situation. "Sorry, but my quirk requires something magnetic. You wouldn't happen to have anything like that would you?" he embarrassingly asked, ill-equipped for the situation. It was likely they had something on hand, he could even sense it with his own quirk. But it was dangerous to just try and attract it toward himself. Yoshida kindly provided a bunch of items on display and Masaki chose the combat knives.
Having never had a chance to carry one before, they would have to suffice for this challenge. Masaki grabbed one of the combat knives and held it up, with his signature smile and a thumb-up to Rowan. It was probably a little creepy, but he didn't know that.

@sugo | ◀ | The heart is a heavy burden ❤ She was more looking at her nails now that it was not her turn and now they were deciding who was the winner. Masaki had looked in her eyes far more professional than she herself had done and it was perhaps better to already consider what would be the best way to react in her victory of becoming a loser. She bit her lip a little and noticed she had broken the nail of her right hand's indexfinger and stared at it with a cold eye. Did people understand how expensive a manicure could be? Probably not and they would probably call it a luxury that you could not afford as a hero, something that stuck in her mind after saying to her that in the rescue mission, she had no time to get a suit.
Rowan looked up from her inspection of her own nails when she heard the word female in the voice that she had marked as Yoshida's, she frowned and looked at him as if he was speaking in some gibberish language and she did not understand that she had actually won. She turned to look at Masaki who was clapping and she would almost do that herself but did not as her brain finaly put together what was said. Her eyes shown with a happy light by what Masaki said, she rather had him like that, than the sour loser reaction she would have given, "I don't plan to take it easy now." She said with a grin back.
She turned to look what Yoshida was arranging now and bit again on her lip without actually noticing, she wondered what would happen as they had only said the second round used their quirks and though she rather not, now the voice of the Burning Lady was quiet, she had not much of a choice if she wanted to win. She looked at the range, checking out all nine targets and frowned a little. She noticed Masaki talking to Yoshida but did her very best not to mingle in the conversation but she needed help as well with her quirk, she stared shortly at her hand, noticing again the nail that made her grumpy before she stepped to Yoshida and asked for the most ridiculous items, things they would not need again and in hushed whispers she explained that if she used her quirk, they would not get it again. It took a bit more time to get items for her than for Masaki but they brought her old drinking cans and some other recyclable items. Good, it would not be a problem. She had missed that she got a thumbs up from Masaki but looked at him now, "Are you ready?" She asked politely, she actually did not mind him at all and perhaps, if she would lose still, she would be able to control herself very well.
OOC: Yes, classes are luckily very interesting haha. Should we post the match and immediately do a dice roll again? |

"More than ready." Masaki responded, wanting to make-up for his wounded pride and the loss of the previous round. At face value, the goal was simple - hit all the targets as fast as you can. There were a total, 12 man-shaped targets spread at least an arm's length apart and at various ranges. They weren't particularly far reaching, 10 meters at the farthest; likely do to the limitations of the average persons quirk. While the goal may have been simple, having to do it with a quirk was the challenge. Not that Masaki would have found it easier if he had to use a rifle.
The underdog in this scenario, it was time for him to try and make a comeback. He stepped up to the range once more; an array of identical knives had rested on the table for him, replacing the rifles from earlier. He looked left and right across the course, wondering how he should begin. However, there wasn't much time to think as Private Yoshida was ready and waiting for the go ahead with a form of stopwatch. He looked to Yoshida with a smile and gave a nod; the sound of a whistle sprang and so the timer had begun.
Maaski reached for the first two combat knives and while there was weight to them, it was nothing his quirk couldn't handle. He tried not to be wasteful with his actions, pulling back to extend a throw was pointless; he could simply make a metal object a projectile by repelling it and give it the necessary momentum. Opening his left hand with the blade facing forward, the knife fired away into the range. Once relinquished, it sped up to strike the closest target and the second knife was launched away just after, while he reached for the next knife.
With a face full of confidence, he wasn't worried about missing these stationary targets this time. With two targets and two more knives in the process of meeting their targets, he was already a third of the way complete. While it was possible for him to do more knives at a time, it was unlikely he could actually hit the targets. The trajectory was based on his position and currently the direction of his left arm; meaning he was using that to fire them in a railgun-like fashion. Thud. Thud. The knives struck their targets, one after another. The sound was almost rhythmic, if it weren't for the distance that separated them. His moves were elegant and refined, graceful even.
Nearing completion, the entire situation put a smile on his face. This was what Masaki excelled at - precision. Wielding the last two knives, he tossed both of systematically and in order. Being boosted forward by his quirk, they struck their intended marks and Masaki crossed his arms. Normally he wore a smile to mask his otherwise depressed face, but right now it born from genuine hard-work and effort. Yoshida immediately stopped the watch and blew the whistle.
While Masaki liked to think that he had the upper hand, he didn't know Rowan's quirk. For all he knew she was going to knock everything in the field over with a single blow. That would be unfortunate. Masaki thought, backing away from the firing range with only a little concern. The odds of that were low, but not impossible.
He placed his arms up behind his head and approached Rowan's position, "You're up, Rowan. I can't wait to see what you can do." Masaki added without realizing the emphasis he put on the last sentence.
Naturally, he was excited. He loved learning things, especially about people and their quirks. Better at hypothesizing and building strategies than he was with people, this was a unique opportunity for him. Maybe when this was over, he could actually have a conversation with Rowan. If she wanted to and stuff.

@sugo | ◀ | The heart is a heavy burden ❤ Well good, she did not like it if he was a whiny type but the idea she had about him at this point, was already that he wasn't. She liked how polite he could be, way better than some specific classmates that forced her.. she shivered, okay phyiscal contact even as innocent as a hug was not something for Rowan. Her mother never did that and she wasn't entirely sure if she had missed that in her life because she found it absolutely unnecessary at this point. Who knows what she would learn in the next couple of weeks, she already got a bit further.
She did not want to watch Masaki much as she was afraid it would make her nervous and she still would be a sore loser, she was sure of that and she looked for a couple of seconds, the first few and focused on her own cans and other rubbish, she wondered if the empty pack of cigarettes was enough, but thank god most were cans, a bit heavier, it would be better if her quirk just had an influence on it, she wasn't sure if that was the case for Masaki but she also had to hope that she had enough but Yoshida had arranged this, so there was a high change.
When she finally stopped worrying about that, she worried about if her quirk could handle so much in a short time, she couldn't get further than six items without her hand becoming hot, would twelve be too much? She decided to worry about that later, it was good right from time to time to find your limits, else you wouldn't know. She looked back to Masaki, mainly at him and how he looked so calm while throwing those knives, as it was the easiest thing he was doing all day. It was really impressive, that it took a few seconds before she noticed he was done and it would mean that it was her turn. "Well you don't have to wait long." She said as casual as a reply on that he couldn't wait to see what she could do. How many people did not want to see her blow things up. She was one of them.
She walked towards the stage where she would have to stand and had the cans, that one empty package with her and nodded at Yoshida when she was ready, so he would be able to let the time start and she could work on throwing. Her aim wasn't the best, but she tried to copy the relaxing figure that Masaki had shown. Her quirk was actually not exploding things by their natural way, it was quickening the molecules that she touched and it took a few seconds before the spark would be influenced and she could make it explode, enough time to throw such a simple thing as a can. She really needed to talk to U.A. and figure out what she could use, what was there enough of so she would be able to use that at school. She should not be distracted, she frowned, focused and alert on what her quirk did to hit the targets. She did her very best after all, even if her hands got uncomfortable warm.

Masaki watched Rowan use her quirk. It was much flashier than his, in a literal sense. It puzzled him what exactly she was doing, but she was throwing cans. It didn't take long for his eyes to widen once he witnessed the cans explode. Amazing. he thought; there were no shortage of amazing people at U.A. It made him feel a little bad really when he compared it to his own, but he always tried to avoid lingering too long on negative thoughts. They built poor self-esteem.
Once she completed her trial, Masaki eagerly awaited the results. Hoping to make a comeback victory in the mysterious third round. He smiled at her again and was already in his head, planning for what lay ahead. Hmm... will it be another round using our quirks? Or maybe it will be another rifle challenge? With the experience we've acquired, I might be able to pull a win. It would however, be very close. I ca-
"You win!" Private Yoshida was already speaking and pointing to Rowan. Masaki's face fell flat amidst the claps of the small audience, expecting a much different result. Alas, reality was usually much harder to accept and yet, here was. Accepting it. Masaki made a drawn-out sigh, he heard the words "Let's hear it for out two lovely competitors!" He wore his usual practiced smile, this time it was a little more bitter sweet than a friendly one. However, it would be hard to tell for anyone else all the same. He gave a friendly bow to both the audience and to their generous hosts.
"Well done. That was very impressive." Masaki joined in the applause, despite his hurt pride. Fortunately, the contest was for sport - softening the blow. But now it looked like he would get the chance to speak to Rowan anyway, since there wouldn't be a third round. He had plenty of questions and knowing she was a fellow student meant this was the perfect opportunity to get to know her. He reached for his phone and looked at the time, he had plenty to spare.
"So, what are you up to now? Would you like to kill some time with me?" Masaki added, shrugging his arms with the suggestion and motioning his hand for her to follow along. He could use the walk. Terrible with girls, he didn't quite know what to talk about. Where to start? Quirks? Home life? Classes?

@sugo | ◀ | The heart is a heavy burden ❤ Sometimes, you had good days and some days you did not have good days. While at this point, for a sore loser as Rowan, it was a good day, her quirk, which was made for exploding and that made her even if she sucked in aiming, alright with hitting because it made a bigger impact with the small explosion than just the can to hit the target. Which was probably a sort of cheating but the competition was this round including her quirk and that worked well. Today the Burning Lady did not speak, did not make her nervous for the use of her quirk and the soldiers seemed to be impressed, nothing to be afraid of, nothing to consider a bad thing. She was done and took one last turn to look at the targets before getting back to stand next to Masaki and eagerly awaiting the results. She fumbled with the long piece of her hair and simply waited, no idea what to say. Conversations like this were difficult as she still was afraid to be a bad loser and say something mean or something she did not mean. She blinked a couple of times, surprised, she had definitely not suspected it as the way Masaki had looked was so calm and natural and hers, only creating explosion after explosion. She couldn't help but beam with a brightness and happiness that her quirk could do something well and that she might learn how to use her quirk better and... she understood what it meant to be a loser and turned to Masaki, trying to hold her smile away, "Thanks, for this as well, I never really had any confidence in my quirk. Honestly, I suspected you would win, you looked so... what's the right word? Calm and collected. I could use some of that." Perhaps it was not nice to say that at all because it only brought down the fact that he lost but she meant it. It gave her a small boost in her confidence.
That only pointed out that in a match like this, her quirk would only be more useful. She was surprised he asked her for her time, automatically getting her phone out of her pocket to check what time it was but even before she saw it, she knew she had time so she simply nodded, "Yes, I do have time." So she automatically put the phone back without looking at it. Who would have texted her anyway, no one anyway, perhaps her mother but she doubted that. |
