Out of many of the quirks that showed up, manifesting in people, Kasey perhaps harnessed one of the most self destructive ones. It wasn't so simple as any of the emitter type quirks, but it packed one hell of a punch. Her body had taken form with it, the girl shaping her bones and figure in a way that pleased her, giving her the ideal shape she wanted. In theory, she could use it the same to mimic anyone else's shape, but with change, came more places her organs needed to fit into. If she did manage to break something, it would regenerate, sure, but it didn't mean it wouldn't be painful. But her own combination was unique to say the least. Few quirks relied on a second entity other than the user. Few also harmed the user. It seemed that only one, harnessed both of these aspects, even going as far to make the person appear immortal. After all, what injury had she not healed from? Her power relied on burning stored energy. She could always burn off excess fat to give her a slim look, but it did not mean her muscles were getting any bigger. But it wasn't like they deteriorated either. Each each consumption, she burned off all of the sugar and grease her body held onto, never allowing her belly to ever really get filled. She never knew what it was like to not be hungry, but she did understand what it felt like to starve. She was a survivor, and perhaps it would always stay that way. She would survive, even when she didn't want to. She would survive when no others would. She didn't have the will, she simply had the power. She didn't want to live anymore, but she did. She wouldn't allow herself to die, at least, she couldn't. "If I vanished, they wouldn't hire anyone else. she would tell the girl, realizing how long it had been since she was last working. If she didn't already lose her job, she was about to. She had to make sure the both of them were on the same page. "Tomorrow, if they ask any questions, we tell them that two heroes saved me. You just happened to follow my phone." She had to tell them the truth, but they wouldn't tell them everything. There was no way around it, knowing the man he might even go as far to make them take a lie detector test. "I was gone for what a month?" Seven days was a month, right? Oh well, if only Kasey could count. "Chances..." she slowed down, stopping her entire speech only to lift the slice of pizza to her lips, again taking a bite like a child. She would set it back down, continuing to chew it like bubble gum, remaining silent as she shared off into the room. She would enjoy the tastes of it, while it lasted. ". . . are that they'll have ways to confirm pieces of the story. The closer we tell the truth, the better off we are." she would tell the girl. Part of her own life dancing at the tip of her tongue. All of it hung on a single thread. All of it hanging, with just a breeze it would fall, her house of cards would crash down. "No one needs to know that I know how to dispose bodies, much less how many." How many? nearly a dozen at the labs. With a few every night. It had been over three years since that day. She never took a break, she never had a vacation. With the exception of the recent week, every day she preformed her ritual. Twenty or more a week. That meant nearly sixty a month. Over seven hundred a year. Her total, was just a skip over two thousand. And that was rounding down, far more than she really preformed. ". . . do you understand, Kanna?" it was not a threat, but Kasey realizing all of the crimes she had committed. She was a murderer, in almost every sense. But her actions were short of just vigilante justice. Her expression would fade, thinking about everything she had screwed up until that point in her life. Everything she did, was wrong, but for the right reasons. "Kanna, if I lose this job, I'm done for."~ Word Count: 731 ~ |

ow... The school really though they could do without a janitor huh...? Her brow raised for a split second at the idea of not hiring anybody to clean up; after all, teenagers could make one hell of a mess. After all, the blonde needed look no further than around her own apartment to understand why. But, better than than hiring one of those annoying Janitors that could go years just telling her to get out of the way: "Well, that's a bummer...", a disappointed, but understanding comment, hands sliding over to her ankles as she leaned back ever so slightly, glancing at the bloody scene projected on the wall. They'd stopped paying attention to the movie for a long while, completely immersed in their conversation, especially as Kasey addressed a pressing subject that had the blonde nodding and, "Yeah... We gotta make sure they don't fire you." Yes, Kanna knew how screwed she'd end up if her adventures with the janitor were to ever see the light of day. She still had hopes of keeping this event under a tight lid, but she made a fair point, they couldn't leave anything to chance. For better or worse, they were in this together now, neither could screw over the other without screwing themselves as well... And they'd already past the point where they'd wish harm upon each other for no reason. "Uhm... You were only gone for three days.", she corrected, raising a finger as a student might, interrupting the girl with a doubtful crooking of her brow; one by one she corrected the more critical fault lines in Kasey's tale, knowing their fates were now tied together, "We can't say they were heroes...", noted Kanna, shaking her head and looking Kasey dead in the eye, "They'd reasonably assume registered heroes to have given their names, or at least for us to give a fitting description... Only vigilantes save people without giving names... Though we should avoid mentioning names or affiliations and play dumb. You don't know who saved you, some masked dudes you didn't recognize. I found you messed up and bloody, and I saw two figures running off when I came by to get you." Indeed, if they named unexisting heroes, they'd get suspicious... If they described heroes who didn't match any known name, they'd also get suspicious... And more importantly, if they named heroes who weren't there, well... That happening would totally screw them over. She paused after those earlier statements though, letting the janior answer, for them to create a completely airtight cover. So when Kasey expressed exactly the same thoughts going through her mind, the blonde merely nodded: "No worries, I'm not an idiot... And if you don't trust me, well...", she shrugged, then leaned back in, resting her hands on her knees with a resolute, determined look in her eyes, "...Remember I'm just as fucked as you are if you do down. In the end it makes no difference whether you're in a school for heroes or anywhere else... If they decide they wanna get rid of you, they won't give a shit as to why I helped you." Though once those last words left her lips, she glanced away and scratched her head, fingers running through her moist hair as a faint redness coloring her cheeks. Kanna couldn't help recall the embarassing scene she'd put there at that one moment she thought her rescue had failed; She defenitely felt far more invested than she'd have been for losing a simple source of information. Yet if asked why she did it: "Not like I know the answer to that anyway...", too many reasons but none in particular, with the blonde completely incapable of calmly admitting she simply enjoyed Kasey's company more than she did most people's. Was it even possible for two people who might one day stand on opposite sides to even look to each other as friends...? Maybe one day... For now though, they had to find a way to save each other's ass, and thus the blonde calmly leaned against the couch, resting her arm behind it, "So... Let's go over it one more time... I tried calling you when you missed school the second day, then I tried tracking your phone. When it died, I went in and found you lying in a bloody mess, with two figures leaving the crime scene. Thinking you could be targeted again in the hospital, I took you to my place to recover." And this pretty much settled Kanna's side of the story, now all they had to do was rectify potentially faulty details, and making their story consistent, absolutely flawless. No room for sloppiness that could raise suspicions... ISHY of THQ & ADOXOGRAPHY

That was it, that was all she needed to say. She went over her side of the story as Kasey again lifted the pizza to her lips, shoving it into her mouth. As she spoke, only single slice remained. Kasey held it in her hands as she tried to not only digest her meal, which was two parts man and one part pizza, but the story they needed to settle. "That's all you need to tell him then." he would admit to Kanna, lifting her meal to take a smaller bite than she was doing before. It seemed as if the drugs had worn off. Disappointed, she would sigh before telling her own spin. "I'm sure he still thinks I'm an idiot." she would say with a smile. "It's hard to think when you have another voice trying to tell you what to do."The head on her hand would close his mouth, staring at the girl before slowly returning back to the shape of her hand. After doing so she would bend her fingers, as if to make sure they all still worked like they should have. "Vigilantes pretend to be real heroes. They may not be authentic, but they strive to be. The licensees are limited. Its why we have so few of them." She would take a normal sized bite of the pizza, swallowing it without chewing. "Did you know that Darkshine is really the daughter of Ketsujo Corps CEO?" She spoke out, her own role in the company involved her having a close hand to the heart of what it was. "It's another thing that confuses me." Kasey tried to find the answer to it all, but none of it made sense. "There's no way Ketsujo would actually authorize torture, much less my own. There has to be another group trying to orchestrate it all." She tried to reason with the experimentation, but even so, it made no sense. She didn't even know about how it continued for a time after she escaped. She had no idea that it was shut down. To her knowledge, she was the one that stopped it. She paused, looking at the pizza box, only to pick it up with her other hand to move it onto the floor instead of her lap. Whatever alibi Kanna was going to come up with on how she happened to be there, wasn't up to her. Kasey had her own story to tell. ". . . So if you're really good at hacking, you wanna bust some bad guys?" she would ask her, "And I don't just mean the ones that took my fingers." She would smile, taking a large bite out of her pizza, chewing it this time, leaning onto her seat as she drifted into her dream. "I mean every last one of them." She had this plan from the start, but only now was she getting the tools for her job. "We'll start from the bottom, breaking away the organization's foundation, until there is no one left to defend the top." She would smile, letting out even a bit of laughter. aced with the reality of actually appreciating this woman's company, as time went by it felt less like flirting with danger and more simply... Well, hanging out, really... But she wasn't so blind as to ignore the risk they'd face should they be interrogated, and simply nodded, commiting this story to memory once Kasey approved it: "Try to get us some chill pills as soon as possible... If they put us through the grind long enough, something could slip out. We gotta be extra careful.", she requested, thinking back to medication like Benzodiazepines, stuff one could rely on to take the edge off, "Well, you're surprisingly ignorant to shit most people consider common sense...", the stoned Kanna let out a little chuckle as she waved her tattooed left hand in front of her roomate for the night, flaunting her body art and nodding thinking back to when the girl asked if she'd been born with it, "You can hardly blame him for assuming that can you?" She'd tilt her head with a knowing narrowing of her eyes, with all the THC in her system she appreciated a moments off topic for no reason other than to have a giggle... But once Kasey raised that pressing topic of what really defines a hero, the blonde laid back in her couch in earnest, both elbows resting behind the back as her legs crossed in front of her: "How many of those are real heroes, licence or otherwise...?", she'd ask, tilting her head back, glancing up into the ceiling contemplatively. To think a hero student could have such cynical views, one might even wonder what exactly was she doing in Yuuei, "If you're just doing it for revenge, money, fame... It's a job like any other. You're hunting down evil and getting paid for it, competing with other heroes to see who gets the laurels..." Looking at Kasey, she'd remain silent and instead let the bone using janitor unwind freely, knowing she'd reached a point where every word from her lips yielded a treasure trove of information. The blonde shook her head, brow raising slightly at the revelation of Darkshine's parentage, hanging off everything the girl said, knowing this exact reason had drawn her towards the janitor in the first place. "Someone ordered it, and if we climb our way up the food chain, we'll eventually find out who.", she stated, rubbing her chin, frowning as all the gears inside her head turned and got to work. Which was exactly what she had in mind. And as it turned out, just like Kanna wanted to use her for information, so did Kasey intend to use the hacker for her own agenda. Kanna would soon lean in once more, hand resting on her lap, her eyes all but lighting up as this proposition seemed right up her alley. "Now you're speaking my language...", Kanna's lips widened into a grin for the first time in a good few minutes, almost as big as the one she'd have shown while fully immersed in playing with four wheeled toy. One look at Kanna should reveal the extent of her rebellious nature, her love of freedom and loathing of authority. Bringing those who rely on corrupt power right back down to the earth, eating away at their pedestals and watching as everything crumbled around them... She couldn't deny the somewhat sadistic sense of glee it brought her, "Fine, I'll be your hacker... I can sell you all my skills for as long as we need to get the job done." As a girl who'd been stepped on by authority figures all her life, Kanna tolerated it so long as she didn't smell corruption, abuse similar to the one she herself had endured. Abuse such as locking a dozen Quirk users for inhuman experiments: "Let's burn their castle to the ground~", asserted Kanna, that resolute jade gaze burning fiercer than ever before. The janitor could use her power to achieve this goal. Even had she been decieving Kanna, the girl hate authority enough that the act of bringing down a multinacional corporation wouldn't really make her lose sleep or anything. Stretching her hand out to her guest, she offered but a mere symbolic gesture, cementing their collaboration for the job to come. ISHY of THQ & ADOXOGRAPHY

She was addicted to cars. There was only two real phrases she could wrap her head around; If you flirt with the wall, one day she will kiss you. He who is last, will be sideways and smiling. The more Kasey danced with danger, the more she was closer to death. The closer she got to the edge, the closer she got to falling down. But if she was going to fall and fail, she was going to at least have fun while doing it. She was going to take down all of Japan with her. She was going to take every life that made this place worse, before her own would be stripped from her. "I read a lot, that's how I learn." she would tell the girl. "I didn't have the luxury of going to school like everyone else. I remember being homeless, sleeping on the streets, and sometimes the big metal trash bins. Then I remember being taken to these labs. I was a child when they took me, and I was an adult when I escaped." She tried to explain it to the girl, but with no concept of time in that place, or even knowledge of how to count, she had no idea how to explain it. She was in that place for over a decade and a half. How do you tell someone that majority of your life was in captivity? Of course, it would be easier, considering that the one she talked to, had glimpsed at the files. To herself, and the others, she was a hero. She had saved them from their experiments with her own force. But she had never expected them to be evil because of it. If that man was broken, then who else was broken too? How many others were like him, instead of her? "Heroes do what's right, it doesn't matter if they get fame or fortune. It doesn't mean their lives should be devoted to just trying to be known or wealthy, but it's a job like anything else." She wanted to be the hero who always did the right thing. But she needed money. She lived for it. She needed an income that would buy everything she wanted. She only needed a few million dollars. But Kasey would never understand that she had already sat on top a mountain of billions. She would reach out to the girl's hand with a smile on her own face, thinking about all of the good that the world would be filled. Kasey understood that the road she was about to travel, would end in flames and death. She knew there was no going back if anyone knew who or what she really was. If they known of her crimes, her atrocities, she would never see the light of day again. But that was the saying, wasn't it? He who is last, will be sideways and smiling. She may have not had a grip on her life, but she was going to enjoy every moment she would have until that fated day. Her brother would take her life and spare her from the punishment, or she would endure the torture once more. She was ready for it, but was Japan ready for her? Her hand would grab onto the forearm of the girl, missing the act of a handshake. "The Crimson Skull, and the Overseer. The bone that bleeds, and the eye that sees it all." she would say it with a bit of a giggle. "I mean, the names weren't a total lie."She was prepared to write the girl off. She was ready for the day when she could not longer help the girl. She was always an army of one. Group Beta, Subject one. Beta One. Her own personal title, the number they assigned her... The Army of Beta One... B-One. Bone. ~ Word Count: 646 ~ |

es, even though she lacked common sense, Kasey was no idiot... Kanna had already seen she was at least capable of deducing this or that thing based on what she knew, which already placed her a fair bit higher than some people. And with the amount of knowledge she'd obviously accumulated, reaching valid conclusions suddenly became a hell of a lot easier: "Reading's good...", a simple, approving platitude accompanied Kanna's nod, "...Damn though... I'm not surprised you couldn't care less about education with a life like that." Then again, only Kanna's quirk stood between her and a life out on the streets, at the mercy of whatever villains and predators dwelled in them. She not only had the right power to learn whatever she needed to survive - such as people's credit card numbers - but also the intelligence to use it wisely, and thus avoid attracting unnecessary attention. She was no hero, even though she attended a school for one, and deep down had no intentions of pursuing that career. And yet, this kind of work with Kasey seemed right up her alley, some may even call it heroic despite Kanna's cynicism: "Yeah, people need to eat... And because it's a job, they can easily reach a point when the money they need - their own needs - matters more than the needs of others. The ideal hero you describe would need to be...", Kanna rolled her wrist, wriggling her finger about and furrowing her brow as if to search for the right word, "A saint, really... Somebody who'd want nothing but to makes lives better for folks around 'em. Can you even say a person like that exists in the hero community?" With this last question, she turned back to Kasey with a raised eyebrow, the girl had a far more lax view on heroes, perfectly acceping one could do good as a job without letting their greed get the better of them. But could they really...? Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. The stronger the hero, the more likely she found for them to eventually give in to their innermost desires. At the same time, Kanna wasn't so cynical as to lump both heroes and villains in the same bag for what was essentially a trait of the entire species, so she'd eventually lean back on the couch and sigh, yielding a fair point: "Of course, getting paid to help people still beats having to steal it from helpless old men.", she'd acknowledge, nodding as she yielded to at least one of Kasey's arguments, "So long as hopeful heroes have a shred of professionalism, they might not be too bad at their jobs..." Perhaps the only, thoroughly begrudging acknowledgement Kanna could ever give heroes... Professionalism, pride in doing one's job well. An attribute Kanna respected and strove for, as she would in this new partnership. The roman handshake her partner favored - grasping her whole arm instead of just her hand - visibly caught her off guard, pulling the two closer, all but inches away from each other. Eyes widened at the sudden pull, it defenitely didn't catch her off guard as much as her words: "Did you come up with all of that just now...?", she'd inquire, raising an eyebrow; while they were oddly fitting, Kanna's side seemed almost... Off... Like a shoe that should theoretically fit her, but hadn't really been made for her. While only a suspicion, Kanna wouldn't be surprised to know she wasn't really the first hacker the girl had worked with, and she'd most likely not be the last. Indeed, nothing lasts forever. If Kanna herself understood she had to make the most of these partnership while it lasted, then no doubt Kasey did too. The girl went to great lengths to look the part, but she was no idiot. For now though, she had a goal the blonde related to, a goal she'd help her achieve, "So I'm assuming you'll have me digging up emails and personal info on their lower level collaborators?" Tilting her head and inquiring on the first order of business, Kanna would proceed to lean back against the couch, once more fetching the weed and grinder. Time for another joint, and then probably sleep...? She didn't really care about the mess of pizza, junk food, and empty cans, she could just clean it up whenever. Probably not anytime soon. She felt far too lazy to move, let alone clean... Not that she'd clean even if she were sober. ISHY of THQ & ADOXOGRAPHY

As they said, common sense wasn't so common. Reduced to a life of a savage, it came to no surprise to most as to why she was so behind the curve. She would nod along to the girl's speech, agreeing with the most of it. Heroes were just that. They were just another job. You couldn't expect every officer to only want to help people, they needed their paycheck too. They didn't want to actually die to save someone else, but it didn't mean they wouldn't do it. To take care of others, you needed to take care of yourself first. Something Kasey believed, but did not practice herself. Why would she? Anything she could do to harm herself, she would naturally, or rather, unnaturally recover from. There was no outside force that could take her life other than age, and being in the perfect shape and form at all times would make that years from the present. It meant she was going to live a long life, an at her rate, it most likely was not going to be a happy one. "I've had the names in the back of my head for a while." She would admit openly to the girl, "Bone Princess, Skeleton King, Crimson Skull, Bone Army, Almighty Bone, Overseer..." She would have gone on, if it wasn't for the fact that the night had already been long. They needed to rest soon, or at least the girl did. There would be school soon, and unless the both of them rested, their work would be less than average... to them at least. "I've been in more places to observe than I'd care to admit." she would say with a bit of a laugh, "While I thought I could be the all-seeing-eye, I think it fits you better." It was amusing to say the least, a string of unfortunate coincidences. Anyone could have been paranoid that her life had fit together so perfectly, as if it was rehearsed, scripted even. A janitor who not only knew the ins and outs of the school, but the country. She didn't just deserve students, but staff and all of Japan. She sided with students and with teachers, and she sided with heroes and villains. If anyone had her knowledge, her network, the whole world could have crumbled, but instead, she was someone who chased after crumbs. "And yes. Home addresses, families, finances. Anything you can get, I'll gladly take." She was planning the fall of so many people, and the rise of so many more. But for now, she waited for the girl to slip off to sleep before her job would start. She was ready to do it, with or without permission. She was going to clean the girl's entire apartment while she slept. ~ Word Count: 465 ~ |

he found all of those names amusing, enough to let out a little snicker. Some sounded cool, others lame, a few of them a tad bit edgy. But she'd clearly given it some thought, something Kanna obviously hadn't. She used the name "Owl" as a hacker, a name she predictably never told anyone who knew her irl. Possibly she wouldn't even tell Kasey, at least, not yet. Not that she couldn't trust her with it considering how much they already knew of each other, but mostly since the girl really had no use for that name at this point. Even in this new hacker work she'd end up doing for her, she'd probably try to avoid using the Owl name unless she properly weighted pros and cons and found herself cutting ahead. "Interesting how you can jam Bone Princess and Skeleton King in the same list of names...", noted the vaguely amused, yet intrigued Kanna, perhaps pointing to a certain level of gender ambiguity. At the same time, she also knew which of the two options nodded towards. So Kasey was the princess and Setsu the King? It actually went pretty well in line with her description... Stoned as she was, Kanna couldn't help betray a hint of receptiveness at the girl's praise, her smirk widening ever so slightly, "Can't be helped... I guess I'll be your all seeing eye~ When dealing with small fry, I can dig up anything useful in a week, tops. The only challenge is finding info on the first one... That one will lead me to all the others" In the end, Kanna would grind the weed, and roll it up into a blunt. She had no idea what Kasey had planned for her home in the immediate future, but wound up making the biggest joint of the night (well, out of two at least) hoping the visibly sober Kasey might get high again... She wasn't so bad a host as to let her stoner buddies sober up now, was she? Indeed she wasn't, but alas, it wound up completely knocking her tired self out. Reluctantly, she'd big the girl goodnight and lift her sedated body, trudging her way to her room and falling asleep face first upon her bed, with Xun promptly coming over and cuddling up to her... Hopefully Kasey wouldn't make a mess of things or anything of the sort. She didn't really seem like the sort, but alas, Kanna always struggled to predict her actions, and right now she was simply too stoned to care... ISHY of THQ & ADOXOGRAPHY

Barn owls spat up their meals in bundles of hair and bone, didn't they? Their faces even looked liked old plague doctors. Perhaps that would be another name for the girl to use, if it wasn't already someone else's choice. Something that feasted on live beings only to have their remains reduced to simply bones. Simply Bones? That was a good choice as well. "I can probably pull up names and general areas for some of them, giving you more to work with." she would tell the girl. "You might not be like Big Sister, but at least no one knows you exist yet." She would say it with a bit of a smile. "For all they know it will be me. No heat on your back, and you can enjoy all of the money we take from their accounts too." Maybe that last part was better left unsaid. But everyone they had killed and consumed, they did in a literal sense and metaphorical sense. Not only had their body become a meal, but so did their bank accounts, their addresses. All of it seized and resold under vague off branch companies that Kasey had knowledge of, and sought to do once she discovered how it all worked. While she had her own paycheck and cuts from the missions assigned to her, with each death, she grew her wealth. She was a criminal mastermind, while still being a janitor who barely knew how to use a knife and fork. As the girl would prepare a final smoke of the night, she would eagerly await to discover if she would be allowed to take a final hit of the night before her own task would be completed. For her, it was becoming a waiting game. ~ Word Count: 294 ~ |
