She was right: you never truly knew who someone was. No one at Yuuei had known who Nick truly was until it had been far too late. He supposed she was trying to be humorous with her comment about how she could be a cannibal, but while he smiled a little at this on the outside on the inside a voice went hmm. One could never be too comfortable anywhere. And why joke about something so specific? He made a mental note to double check what she fed him the next time…
The sensation of her hand lowering onto his shoulder was completely foreign to him and broke him right out of his thoughts. He stared at it for a good few moments, blinking in utter confusion. What could such a gesture mean? Obviously she meant well, but he could not figure it out. Was it a show of support? Of concern? Of care? No one had ever done such a gesture before…
He narrowed his eyes a bit at her insistence that his business was her business, because it most certainly was not, but allowed her to continue.
“Ah, I’m sorry to hear that,” he said in response to her father’s fate, though he felt as though his words were meaningless.
Speaking of no one ever having shown concern for him before, there she went asking about his family. He should have expected it after he had remarked about hers, yet even so his soul clenched. He did his best not to show any change of emotion on the outside.
“I have a mother, who I will need to contact at some point. She lives in England.” Besides that, though, there was no one. He supposed the rest of the Gifted Underground were a ‘family’ of sorts, but Nari did not need to know about them. Not yet, anyway.

Nari looked at him and grinned, it had been like he never received a gentle touch before in his life. As if he's never been truly friendly with other people. He was a poor soul indeed. She didn't care if he argued with her, he had brought her into this so now it was her business. If he wished to take refuge in her house, he would learn to listen to her more often. Did he really think she was serious about the cannibalism comment? Sure she drank blood but she didn't eat people, that was just absurd.
She listened to his small comment about feeling sorry to hear about her father's situation. She never gave up hope, she would get him out of jail and reunite her family again. She missed him, her mother missed him...she was sure he missed both of them as well. Those people would pay for what they did, taking her father away when he did nothing wrong. The brunette then listened as Nick explained his family situation, hearing he had a mother back in England but that seemed to be the most of it. He was in Japan all alone with no family to turn to, especially in his time of need now. She supposed, she could be his...'family'? The thought made her cringe a little, it was a bit weird to think that, perhaps she should just focus on a different topic. "I see...well there's no rush to call her it doesn't seem. I doubt what you did was anything to make the news or something big that would be spread throughout the world," she said, taking her hand away from his shoulder and placing it on her lap.

Nick frowned a little at her grin in a mix of puzzlement and annoyance. Was she making fun of him because he did not understand the reason for her touch? Or was something else funny to her? Either way, she said nothing about it, so he decided to put it to the side. For the time being.
Nari’s hospitality was something, and it would be foolish to throw it away so soon, even he knew that. He was in a better place now than he had been the day before, that he could not deny. Perhaps she would find out what he had done – he had no idea if it was on the news or not – but he would have to cross that bridge when they came to it. For now, he had a warm bed and a roof over him. His paranoia had to calm the hell down, just for once.
“Thank you again so much for this,” he said. He tried to add a smile, but it was brief. He had no desire to speak further of his mother, so a different topic it was. “I’ll make it up to you somehow.” Would he? He did not even know, but it somehow seemed like the appropriate thing to say. “For now, though, I may just sleep a little longer.”
Yes, sleep definitely sounded like the best possible thing at the moment – though hopefully her cannibalism comment had just been a joke and he would not wake up to her trying to eat him…

"It really is no trouble. You asked for help, and I was there to answer your call. Think of it as nothing," the brunette said with a smile. It was like she was nursing an injured animal back to health, reminding her of the time she helped a baby bird get better and get back out into the wild. The comment of making it up to her had Nari softly chuckling, he really was a silly boy indeed. "You don't need to do that. Think of it as just one friend helping another friend in a time of need," she spoke, her expression soft yet happy. Hearing that he wished to sleep, Nari stood up and looked down at him. "Alright. I should be making dinner soon so when it is done I will come and let you know. I think my mother said something about making a hot pot tonight. I'll let you know exactly when the time comes, for now though, rest as long as you need." The green eyed girl smiled once more at Nick before leaving the room and shutting the door behind her.
A soft sigh left Nari's pink lips, the world surly did work in mysterious ways. Here she was saving a stranger instead of going out and killing someone for a chance. Perhaps this was a change of heart for the once cold-hearted girl...as if that would ever happen. The brunette softly chuckled to herself at the thought as she went back downstairs to see if her mother had started dinner yet or not. Hot pot sounded wonderful, something different for a change and it would definitely feed more then two people. She wondered how long Nick would be residing with them...she had to keep both him and herself in check and keep him unknowing of who she truly was...at least for now.
