Lost. Alone. Pathetic. Nick felt all of these things and more. He shambled through a dirty back alley like a zombie in a cheap horror flick. The Yuuei uniform he had once put so much pride into keeping as neat as possible was ragged and torn. His skin was even more unnaturally pale than usual and thick black bags hung beneath his eyes. In his hand he gripped a water bottle, stolen from a convenience store on the other side of town earlier that morning along with a sandwich he had already eaten. It had not been enough. His stomach rumbled. He felt too powerless to act on it. He slumped down to the ground beside a dumpster instead and stared vacantly into nowhere.
Every time he blinked he saw Rin’s terrified face looking back at him. God, what the hell had he been thinking; that he could make her love him by kidnapping her? That he could have gotten rid of the gnawing loneliness he felt just for a little while? Well, that had backfired and then some. In the end he had only been reminded of how nothing he was and would always be to her, and even more so of how utterly alone he was in the world. Now instead of just gnawing, his loneliness was tearing him apart from the inside with razor claws and there was little he could do.
He pulled out his phone without quite knowing why. All he had in the world was his dear Mother, and he considered contacting her as he stared at his phone’s list of numbers and his desperation grew, but a sub-zero shudder spiked through him at the thought of how furious she was going to be. He had failed his mission, after all. He knew from experience Mother did not take failure well, wincing as his phantom bruises ached at the memory.
A number on the list suddenly jumped out to him, as for a second he did not recognise it, but then it hit him – Nari. That mutant girl who had assisted him in aiding some other mutants. Fuck, they had only interacted that one time, barely enough to call her an acquaintance of his, but his hands were beginning to tremble with how desperate he was. He could not sleep another night out on the cold, hard streets, that he knew. He opened up a message and slowly began to type…
Nari, it’s Nick. I need
His fingers hesitated. The word ‘help’ came into his mind only to be chased out again. Even in his broken, miserable state, enough shreds of his pride lingered for him to cringe at the thought of ever needing anything from anyone. A few moments passed before he could bring himself to continue:
Nari, it’s Nick. I need to see you. Can you meet me around the back of the Arata Arcade?
There. It was not begging that way. He hit ‘send’ and crumpled back against the wall.
Please answer me, the lonely part of him thought.

Nothing beats a lazy Saturday then taking a nice warm bath and enjoying some soothing green tea. The brunette contemplated drinking chamomile this early in the day but she had wanted to get a few things done around the house while her mother was away. She had gone out grocery shopping for the two of them, getting a few things to make for lunch and supper for the upcoming week. Nari decided to try something different today with her bath, instead of using plain tap water, she added some powdered milk and honey to the warm bath water. She had read online that the milk and honey combo is supposed to help exfoliate and moisturize your skin, all of which sounded lovely to Nari. The past couple of missions she completed let her splurge just a little, the rest was saved in case something came up, and in all honesty can't a girl indulge just a little?
The green eyed femme relaxed in the warm milk and honey infused water, listening to some classical music as she relaxed in the bath, her body feeling the water's effects already. The music choice she had picked was something new for her, yes she did listen to classical music quite often but she hadn't heard the work of Schubert before, finding his music quite pleasing to the ear. Just as the climax of the song had approached, a notification rang on her phone, interrupting the song and interrupting her happy mood. With an irritated sigh, Nari used one of the spare bath towels to dry her hands off before picking her phone up and pausing the music before she opened the message up. ...Oh, Nick? When was the last time she spoke with him? A few weeks ago? She hadn't thought he would ever use her contact info but it appeared that he had. What could he want exactly?
So he wanted to meet behind the arcade? His message sounded serious with how it was worded...what if it was a love confession? Nari began snickering, finding the situation quite hilarious. Although it could be a possibility, she believed his reason for meeting her to be greater than that...why would she drag her out of her nice warm bath for a simple question. 'Alright, I'll meet you in 15 minutes.' she typed before sending her message. She placed her phone where it wouldn't get wet and sighed, she did enjoy her bath but wished she could have soaked a bit longer. Nari soon got out and gently towel dried off before slipping on her signature blouse and skirt along with her brown Mary Janes. She fixed her hair in it's normal bun and grabbed her phone and notepad before heading out to meet the U.A. student at the desired location. What could he possibly need from her?

Nick paced around behind the arcade as though his shoes were full of ants. He just could not stay on one spot for more than half a second. His eyes flicked across his grimy surroundings as restlessly as his feet; where was she? She had taken the time to answer him, so it was not as though she was going to stand him up – was it?
A pit opened up inside him and what was left of his spirit sank into it. Of course she was not coming. She did not care for him. No one did, and he was beginning to wonder if he deserved to be cared for.
Footsteps. His heart leapt up a lot higher than he would admit to and he spun in their direction. There she was, and his face could not have lit up brighter.
“Nari!”
Shit, he hated that she had to see him in such a rotten condition. This was beyond humiliating and the shame he felt caused him physical pain. He quickly looked away from her in a pale attempt to hide it, as though looking away would erase the battered state of his clothes.
“I need…” How to phrase this? If phrasing the text had been difficult, phrasing his words to her in person was on another level entirely. The word ‘help’ remained toxic to him and he refused to use it. “I – I can’t go back to Yuuei. I did a bad thing.” Again Rin’s face flashed into his mind and he tried not to flinch. “I can’t go home, either, which is all the way in England anyway. If you know of anywhere I can stay, anywhere at all, it’d be appreciated.” All the while he spoke he did not look at her. He could not bring himself to. To have been reduced to a blubbering beggar – he hated himself and he hated the world so much he felt sick.

She didn't think she was running late now...perhaps getting dressed took another minute or two, but she wouldn't break a promise, even if it was with someone she hardly knew. Nari rounded the corner of the arcade only to see a man with shaggy black hair wearing torn and tattered clothes. Was this...Nick? Her questions was soon answered as the man in question turned around with a happy yet desperate look on his face, as if he's seen an angel or some heavenly body. Nari softly smiled and walked closer to him but the closer she got, the more questions came to mind. What happened to him? Why did he look like this? Why was he wandering the streets?
She watched as he quickly looked away from her, seeming as if he were embarrassed or rather...ashamed of who he had become. She listened to him explain a bit about what happened...how he couldn't go back to U.A....that he had done something bad, which probably resulting in the first things at hand...how he couldn't go home. He had no one to turn to it seemed, she being the only one to reach out in the other's time of need. Her green eyes never left his form, continuously watching as he spoke and averted her gaze, lastly asking if she knew of a place where he could go...a haven of sorts. She blinked, her smile wavering into that of a somewhat neutral expression.
She took her notepad out and began to write a message, scratching and erasing a few things before showing her notepad to the other. 'I won't ask about what happened, you may tell me if you are comfortable. A place to stay? Did you ask the mutants that we helped if you could stay there with them? What about a shelter of sorts? I just need to know...how long have you been out here?' her message read. Clearly looking like that meant he had been out here for quite some time, no one's hair grew that quickly in a matter of days.

Nick was grateful she did not pry about what exactly had gotten him into his situation. He supposed he would have to tell her sooner or later, but he really did not want to immediately. He was not even sure where he would begin explaining it…
He had not thought about the small mutant community they had rescued. He nodded, visibly considering this. “I suppose there’s them.” A frown. “Not all of them were the friendliest towards me from what I remember, though.” While Ikki the horse-headed boy had been beyond grateful for his help, there had been others like the pole-shaped man and the man with two heads who had acted aggressively towards him for not being as mutated as they were. The thought of staying with the likes of them made his skin crawl. “And yet they might be the best option I have. A public shelter is a no-go. Yuuei will wonder where I am and I don’t want them to find me.”
The lack of choice was painfully frustrating and exhausting, and this pain showed in his facial expression. At her question about how long he had been on the streets, he slowly raised and lowered a shoulder. “A couple of days. Maybe a week. I’m not sure anymore.” He let out a bitter, dark sigh. “Trust me when I tell you what I did was a very bad thing.”

So both the house the mutant's resided in and a public shelter were off the table. She could consider that option...but she didn't know how well she could trust him. Who knew if he was trying to pull something on her, get her to where she was most vulnerable and then strike when she least expected it. The last thing she ever wanted was to see was her house damaged or her mother hurt. If she could gain his trust then perhaps...
Nari listened as he explained how many days he's been out here, not too sure himself how long he has been wandering the streets with no shelter, no food, no warmth. Nari looked at him, her neutral expression turning to that of a small frown, looking over his features once more before deciding on writing another note. She read the note over once...twice...even three times before she softly nodded, showing him her notepad once more. 'I suppose, seeing as it wouldn't be too much trouble, that you could stay at my house for a few days until you are strong enough to get back out on your feet again. Although...how do I know I can trust you to not pull any funny business? I don't take kindly to those that take my kindness for granted.' her message read. This could all be an act as far as she was aware. She had to have some sort of proof that he wasn't going to back-stab her if she helped him now. Letting a stranger into your home is not the smartest of ideas...but it was about the only idea she had if she didn't want to see this kid dead on the streets.

Nick was fine reading her note up until it reached the part where it mentioned funny business and him taking advantage of her. At this point his face darkened into a bitter scowl. Some trace of his healthy self's fiery rage awoke within him, spurred on by how very exhausted he was. “Why the fuck would I? Do I look like I’m in a state to hurt you, or anyone for that matter?” Yet again he saw Rin and a lump formed in his throat. He did his best to swallow it.
He was weak, he was hurt, he was starving and he was filthy. The growth on his back did not even have the strength to twitch the way it usually did when something enraged him. How could she think he had it in him to harm a tiny insect, let alone her? He took deep breaths to calm himself.
“I would stay at your house, if you’d have me,” he said after a moment. “And honestly if you’re afraid of me as I am right now, you need to tell Ikki and the others you’re not as strong as they think you are, because as I am now I couldn’t do anything to you even if I did want to. I just want somewhere nice to fucking sleep!” He had been through far too much to maintain the calm and collected demeanour he tried to under normal circumstances. The cracks were showing and they were the size of the Grand Canyon.

Ah, so he did have a vulnerable side after all. Nari smiled when she saw him so angered like that, confirming in her mind the trust she needed to let him into her home. Even when he joked around about her being scared if he were to attack her in his current state, she found it quite funny. She wrote another note and grinned before showing him, 'That's all I needed to hear.' She wrote another message before showing him, reaching up to place a gentle hand on his shoulder. 'I understand. You may stay with me as you recover.' the note read. Nari took her hand back and smiled, before gesturing the taller of the two to follow her, leading him to her home.
It took about 7 minutes to get to her home from where they were now, thankfully so as it seemed Nick would not be able to walk a far distance in his current state. Nari soon entered the door to her small home, welcoming Nick inside. Once they were both inside, she shut the door and wrote another note, showing it to the noirette when she was done. 'I was going to make lunch before you messaged me. If you want, you could use our bathroom to freshen up and shower as I prepare lunch. I can offer you some towels and toiletries...as well as a fresh set of clothes.' her note read. She was sure an old outfit of her father's could fit the currently disheveled boy in front of her. Nari had to see what they had in the kitchen, but she was sure with what she had on hand she could prepare something for the two of them.

Nick had not known it was possible to feel gratitude and resentment at the same time. He felt gratitude towards Nari for answering his call and opening up her home to him, but at the same time he resented being in this situation with every fibre of his being. He was supposed to be better than this. A great warrior, a beacon for the Quirked people to rise up – not a pathetic wreck begging for help, because as much he had avoided that word he knew deep down that was what he was asking for. He hated so much that anyone had to see him in such a state. Perhaps that was why it had gone several days before he had grown desperate enough to try reaching out.
He murmured his thanks, but otherwise followed her in silence. He raised his head with interest as they approached her home, which was somehow smaller than he expected, but also quaint enough. He finally spoke again to answer her after they were inside;
“That sounds excellent,” he said. “I’ll go to the bathroom and get cleaned up right away.” God, never before had he looked forward to a bathroom so much. With the look on his face, an observer would think he was being given entry to a treasury full of gold, not a humble bathroom.
At the back of his mind he noticed her use of ‘our’; evidently she did not live alone, then. He wondered who else she could live with; a family member? A romantic partner? And were they home currently? Either way getting clean was so much more important.

Nari nodded in response to the other accepting her suggestion. She led him upstairs and entered the bathroom. She was about to write down and describe where everything was until she saw her black silk undergarments on the ground. She hastily picked them up, a tinge of pink rising to her cheeks at the forgotten articles of clothing on the floor. She quickly shoved them into her dress pocket before getting her notepad and writing him a message. 'The bath is simple to use, the right nozzle turns the hot water one, the left the cold. Try not to fill the tub too high or else it will overflow. Soap and shampoo are lined against the wall, a small shower handle is available as well as well as a mirror and stool.' her message read.
Nari went over to the spare closet and, with the help of her step stool, grabbed Nick two towels to use to dry off. She placed them in a basket next to the bath as not to get them wet while he cleaned off. The brunette wrote another note before showing Nick. 'If you need anything else, please let me know. I will be downstairs preparing lunch for us. I will leave some clothes outside for when you are finished. If you wish, I can wash the clothes you currently have on. Just leave them outside the bathroom and I will get them when I come back upstairs.' her second message read. Nari smiled up at Nick before exiting the bathroom and closing the door behind her. She went to her room for a moment and deposited her undergarments into her laundry hamper with a soft sigh before going back downstairs to prepare some lunch. Hopefully they had something good to eat!

Nick eagerly followed Nari to the bathroom. He glanced around; it seemed nice enough, but then he noticed Nari looking at something and followed her gaze.
Oh. Those were – ah. Panties. Knickers. Undergarments. There were many words for what they were. His cheeks turned a very bright ruby red, not helped at all by the fact the person they belonged to was stood right beside him. Or that he had not seen such a garment often in his life. His mind blanked.
It was still blank when Nari began showing him her notes again. He did his best to nod along and read them, but it was difficult to when his cheeks were still smarting and looking at her had suddenly become even harder than it already had been.
“Uh, um, yeah,” he fumbled to string his words together. He wanted to slap himself to snap himself out of it, but refrained. “I get you.”
After she left, he let out another sigh, this one mainly tired. He certainly got himself into some strange situations. Still, he was finally going to be clean. He stripped off and dumped his clothes outside the bathroom as instructed, though he doubted he would ever wear them again, or that he wanted to.
After some trial and error, he managed to fill himself a lovely warm bath complete with fluffy clouds of bubbles, just how he liked them. He lay among them for quite some time feeling as though he were drifting through heaven.
You’re in a girl’s bathroom, said a voice in his mind, a small and stupid voice he did his best not to listen to often. Even so, he really was. He felt his cheeks turning red again and hurriedly dismissed this, reaching for the soap.
The sensation of soap against his skin had never been greater. He relished in every hint of grime destroyed, but somehow, no matter how much he scrubbed, he did not feel as though it was enough. Even when he got up and let the shower run over his body, when his skin was practically sparkling, he still felt filth all over.
Of course. He was never going to wash away what he had done, was he? He slowly put the soap back down and shuffled out of the bath to towel himself off. He could bathe in acid and it would not go away, that he knew. He was forever tainted by it, changed. Who he was now…
Well, he still had to decide.

Sure she was a little embarrassed that a boy saw her panties, but it wasn't like it was that big a deal to begin with. She had lived alone with her mother, both being female, so the action was normal for her. Usually she placed her dirty clothes in the hamper but she had forgot since she rushed to get dressed to meet Nick when he messaged her. Oh well, what could it possibly hurt?
Nari looked around in the kitchen for something to prepare...something not too light but not too filling. They did have rice to make onigiri and she was sure she had some veggies and eggs she could make. Yeah, that seemed like a good idea. Nari prepared some rice in her steamer as she got out a few vegetables from the fridge, beginning to chop them up and place them in a saute pan to cook in. She could make a small stir fry with eggs and rice balls on the side. Hopefully Nick wouldn't be too picky...she doubted he would, he was practically upstairs using her soap to wash off with. While the veggies were cooking, Nari made a quick sauce to pour over the veggies towards the end but for now, she worked on the eggs.
It took a little while but she was finally done with lunch, the small veggie and egg stir fry along with the onigiri were nice and hot, just dying to be eaten. Nari let out another soft sigh before she smiled and went back upstairs to retrieve the clothes Nick had worn. Was it weird for a girl to be doing a boy's laundry? They were just clothes after all. Nari wrote a small note before slipping it under the door while she collected the clothes he left for her. 'I have left you some clothes for when you are done. Also, lunch is finished when you are dressed (:' her note read. She went into her mother's room and rummaged through the drawers until she found a suitable shirt and bottoms for Nick, setting them outside where his previous clothes were before she went back downstairs to throw his laundry in the washing machine.

Nick was just finishing towelling himself off when he saw the note being slipped under his door. When he was done brushing his hair to the absolute perfection his standards demanded, he opened the door and put on the clothes that waited for him. How divine it felt to wear clean clothes again, so much so he did not care much that these were not actually his and were perhaps slightly small.
His nose caught a whiff of something promising. Highly promising. His belly rumbled its agreement and he followed it like a scrounging dog. Arriving at the kitchen, he was greeted by the sight of onigiri and stir fry. He practically lunged at it.
“Oh, thank you!” he cried, not even trying to hide his level of gratitude for once. “This looks wonderful!”
He made for a nearby table and sat down. Wait, it was impolite to tuck in before she was there too, was it not? He might not have cared, but she was showing him hospitality and he remembered what she had said about taking advantage of her kindness. Fuck, he was so hungry though – also, what was it Japanese people said before they ate? Eeta-dakky-something? Nick’s starving, English-raised brain did not know.

The green eyed girl arrived back in the kitchen the same time she heard eager footsteps rush down the stairs, probably following the smell of lunch that hung in the air, a delightful smell at that. She watched with a smile as he practically grabbed a plate and a large helping of stir fry and some onigiri. She waited for him to begin eating but he did not, instead he looked back up at her. Nari tilted her head in confusion, if he was hungry, why wasn't he eating? Was he waiting for her?
The brunette wrote a small note before sliding it over to the noirette for him to read. 'You can begin eating. I'm going to make some water for tea. Would you like some? We have a few different kinds to choose from. I'll bring the box over.' her note read. As he read her note, Nari grabbed her kettle and filled it with water before placing it on the hot burner, waiting for it to boil. She then went up into one of the cabinets, with help from another step stool, and grabbed the box of various tea bags they had. She stepped back down and placed the box on the table, letting Nick choose which he wanted. She made a small plate for herself before softly clasping her hands together, silently thanking for the food before she began eating. Not too bad in her opinion, perhaps maybe some more ginger next time. She placed her notepad next to her in case Nick asked her any questions or if she had something to say to him.

“Of course,” Nick said in response to her question about tea. “I am English, after all.”
He certainly did not need to be told twice that he could eat without her. With that confirmation he dived right in. He ate in the most civilised manner he could considering a black hole had taken the place of his stomach. It did not take long for the plate to be rendered spotless. Were he in an eating contest, he might have had a good shot at first place. When he was done, he let out a sigh of contentment; the most content he had heard himself sound in a while.
“Thanks so much,” he said to Nari, a genuine smile even appearing on his face. “I really needed that. It was godly.”
He reached for his tea and sipped it. He was so thrilled to be clean and fed that he almost for just a second, nothing more than a heartbeat forgot about the darkness that had transpired and brought him here. As he remembered again, however, his smile thinned and faded. He lowered his tea.
“I’m so fucking alone,” he said, eyes glued to the ground, voice little more than a bitter growl that was directed at himself, not her.
