Nari had eaten about half of her plate of food when the kettle began to whistle, signifying the water for the tea was done. Nari slowly stood up and went over to the stove, turning the heat off before reaching into the cupboard to grab two cups for them. She went over and placed them on the table before going back over to the stove. The brunette slipped on some oven mitts and walked over to the table, carefully pouring the hot water into the cups before placing it back on the stove where it belonged.
Once the water was poured, the green eyed lass sat back down and rummaged through the tea bag box, picking out another green tea bag to have with her lunch. It was one of her favorite types of tea after all. While she waited for the tea bag to infuse into the water, she finished eating her lunch but not as quickly as Nick at his. How could she blame him, who knows how many days without food or water he went without. She looked over at him and smiled once she heard his gratitude, glad he enjoyed his meal. It was only a simple stir fry yet he treated it as the finest meal from the most rich of families.
Nari stirred her tea but happened to hear Nick mumble something about being alone, his gaze now on the floor instead of up at the table. Her expression turned neutral, setting her spoon down and picking up her pencil, writing Nick a message before sliding her notepad over to him. 'You're not alone. I'm sure there are people out there that care for you. I don't know what happened exactly for you to end up like this but...you could always come to me if you feel like this.' her message read. It was a risky move, sure, but something about the noirette made Nari want to help, even if it was as something small as giving him something to eat and some shelter.

It took great effort for Nick to raise his eyes again to read Nari’s note, effort akin to rolling a boulder up a steep mountain. She really knew nothing about him, so her claim that he had people who cared about him should not have stung, but it did, because he did not.
Should he tell her what he did? He knew he would likely have to eventually. He doubted she would understand. He would not blame her if she threw him out for it.
“It’s – complicated,” he began. A pause. “But thank you.”
No. He would not tell her just yet. He had already shown more weakness than necessary. He had not checked the news since that day, so he had little idea what was being reported about it. Would they have named him as the culprit? He doubted it, somehow. From what little he knew of Yuuei’s principal, he seemed the type to want to keep the worst things strictly between Yuuei and the authorities.
His gaze was begin to waver. His eyelids suddenly felt ten times heavier. He yawned. “If you don’t mind, I’m very tired. I would like to sleep now, wherever that may be.”
Which was a good point, actually. Where exactly was he going to sleep?

She had heard about a situation on the news about a U.A. student attacking a suspected bystander, but she knew who that bystander really was. Big Sister had reported about missing an eye...but did Nick really do such a thing? It could have been another Nick yet...she didn't think that was the case. In a way, she was quite proud of him, but wouldn't tell him as of now, she was still looking to gain his trust. Wouldn't want to ruin her own reputation. All he knew was that she was a civilian, not a hero nor a villain. She would like to keep it that way for as long as possible, don't want people getting too close now.
She didn't have much time to linger on the topic as Nick asked where he could sleep at, rest his eyes for a bit. The living room wouldn't be good as she had yet to inform her mom about the situation, wouldn't want to frighten her as she came home from the store. Her mother's room was off limits...perhaps her room? ...Maybe not quite, if he grew embarrassed about her undergarments, then sleeping in her room would be just as bad for him. They did have an extra room with a bed, though it was small it was still good to sleep on. Nari took her notepad and wrote down another message before showing Nick. 'We have a spare room upstairs you can borrow for the time being. I'll get you some blankets and pillows to use.' her note read.
Nari decided she would clean up after she showed Nick where he could lay his head, figuring he was quite tired with how he was trying not to doze off at the dinner table. She got up and led him back upstairs and to the small room with the small bed inside. She wrote a quick message and showed it to him, saying to wait there while she went to grab some extra things he might need. She went to her bedroom closet and grabbed the extra blanket she had as well as two pillows before returning to the spare room, making the bed for Nick to sleep on. When she was finished, she turned to him with a smile, silently saying that she was done and the bed was ready.

Ah, so they had a spare room. Nick was grateful for that: it removed any possible further awkwardness, as seeing her knickers had been awkward enough.
He followed her as eagerly as if she was leading him to the lost city of gold. It did not matter to him one iota that the room was on the small side: he had not smiled so wide in a long time.
He waited patiently for Nari to get the blankets. All he wanted was to collapse onto the bed and never get up again. Despite this, somehow he remembered to bow to Nari slightly after she was done changing the bed, the way you were expected to in Japan. “Thank you so very much for this. I can’t even begin to express my gratitude, to be honest.” In large part because he had no idea how. When was the last time anyone had helped him like this? When was the first? He felt as though he should have said more to her, but no words came.
Instead he stood there awkwardly for a moment or two before giving up on trying to think of what to say and ambling over to the bed. He did not even care to change out of his new clothes; he just fell down on the bed exactly how he wanted. God, after days of sleeping the cold, hard ground, real soft sheets had never been so welcome.

Nari left the room and closed the door behind her, letting the tire boy sleep after so many restless nights out in the streets. Sleeping on a bed was bound to be more comfy than sleeping on the cold concrete. Nari decided to go downstairs as not to bother him, deciding first to clean up from lunch. She made sure to put away any leftovers she had before placing the dirty dishes in her premade soapy water to sit before she really got to cleaning them. Nari reheated the water for tea before making herself another cup, this time she had jasmine instead of green.
After letting the dishes soak for a good 10 minutes, Nari put her cleaning gloves on and decided to hand was the dishes. They always seemed cleaner that way. The sound of the lock on the door signaled that her mother had returned home from shopping. She took her gloves off and went to help her, letting the dishes soak for a bit longer couldn't hurt anything. A rather tall woman with caramel colored hair walked through the door, holding a few bags of groceries in her hand and around her arms. Nari happily went over to help her mother out, not wanting her to carry everything in by herself.
"Do anything fun while I was away?" the woman asked with a small chuckle. Nari turned to her, reaching in the bag and grabbing a bag of pears, and smiled. "I got a message from a friend saying he needed help. I let him in, ran him a bath, made some lunch, and now he's sleeping upstairs in the spare room," the green eyed girl said with a soft voice. "My, sounds like you had a pretty fulfilling day my little ducky," the older woman said, placing a few cans away in the pantry. "I suppose you could say that. I was just cleaning up before you got home," Nari said, putting some fish and meat her mother had bought away in the fridge to stay cool.
It took roughly 5 minutes for the two women to put all the groceries away, it would have taken longer if only one of them had done it. The caramel haired woman went over to Nari and pet her head, placing a kiss on her forehead. "I'll be in the living room watching my shows," she said before leaving and doing as she had said. Nari grinned and turned back to the sink, now it was time to clean those dishes.

Black. All around him was a sinister dark void that stretched on for infinity. His feet would not move no matter how much he willed them to.
“There you are!” screeched a furious feminine voice he knew all too well.
Mother. She was there, but when he looked around she was nowhere in sight. Shivers colder than the Arctic itself wracked his body.
“You can’t do anything right, you little shit!” Mother howled again.
“He’s so fuckin’ useless!” snarled a gruff male voice he knew belonged to one of the many who had trained him to fight at Mother’s request.
“I hate you!” came another voice he recognised as Rin’s.
Nick clutched his head, fingers scrunching up his hair as he pathetically shook it. “N-no, leave me alone!”
His plea was lost under the cacophony of voices, which grew louder by the second as they screamed over and over how worthless he was and how much they despised everything about him. His feet finally found the ability to move and he plunged deep into the dark, but no matter how hard he ran there was no escape –
Nick awoke with such a start he propelled upright. Did he cry out? He did not even know. His breaths came fast, frantic and heavy, rivers of sweat pouring down his skin. It took a moment for him to remember where he was. He was in Nari’s house, far from Mother and far from his sins. He slowly sank back down again and let out a long, weary groan.
So much for his desperately awaited rest. At least he felt somewhat refreshed, despite his subconscious woes. He slowly rose from the bed, wondering how much time had passed. Perhaps if he found Nari and spoke to her a bit he would forget about his bad dream…

Finally finished with the dishes, Nari decided to join her mother in the living room, pulling out a half completed sudoku book and setting it on her lap. The brunette flipped the book open and began working on the puzzle she last left off. Small things that challenged her mind...those were the types of things she focused on. This type of game was fun to play, it kept her mind busy when she wasn't on her computer. She never knew if someone like Big Sister was watching from behind the screen.
After about an hour and 20 puzzles later, Nari's gaze shot up towards the stairs as a cry from the boy on the second floor distracted her from her game. The green eyed girl looked to her mother for a moment before putting her book down and making her way upstairs to check on her guest, not before writing a quick note for the boy. She rounded the corner and stood in front of the closed spare room. She gently knocked before going in, seeing Nick in a cold sweat as he stood up, looking at the door. Nari handed him her note which read, 'Is everything alright? I heard you yelling and got worried.' Nari looked up at the dark haired man, a semi-saddened expression on her lips as she slightly worried about the mental state of the boy whom she hardly knew.

Damn it, so Nick must have cried out. As if his situation could possibly have gotten any more humiliating. He growled quietly in annoyance with himself. At least his prideful temper was beginning to make a comeback.
What to say? Did he admit to her the truth? Now that his mind was rested and clearer, he wondered if she would throw him out if he told her exactly what he had done to ensure he would never again enter Yuuei. Who would let him stay if he told them he had kidnapped and seriously harmed another student? Would she accept his reasons?
“It’s nothing,” he said at last, even though it was very much something. “Just a bit of a bad dream. Everyone has them from time to time, right? It can’t be helped.” He shrugged his shoulders and then stretched in an attempt to seem casual. “Either way I got the rest I needed. Thanks again so very much for this. You, uh, wouldn’t happen to have a spare phone charger too, would you? Mine’s still at Yuuei, along with all my other belongings, and well…” He sighed, genuinely. “It’s a good thing I didn’t have much of value with me, because I won’t be seeing any of that again. Ugh, all my books!” Something inside him really did ache at the thought of all the poor, innocent books that he treasured so much left abandoned.
Fuck. His attempt to change the subject had been far too obvious, he knew, even if he really did need a phone charger. He groaned inwardly and looked to Nari, doing his best to keep his expression vague. “I hurt another student. Badly. I don’t think they know it was me who did, but I can’t go back there. Ever. So here I am.” There. It was not the whole story, nor did it need to be. She would not turn against him for just that, surely?

Oh, a bad dream? She supposed that made sense, though she's never seen anyone react so badly to a nightmare they had. Everyone's minds worked in different ways, no two being the same. Nari softly nodded in response, understanding that the nightmare was what made him cry out and break in a cold sweat, his body still slightly shaking in what she guessed was the aftermath of the dream and waking up from it. Nari grabbed a mini notebook from her pocket and wrote down a message before showing Nick. 'Ah yes, it can't be helped. Still, it didn't sound good. Is there anything I can get to help calm you down at all?' he message read.
She listened to his request about a spare phone charger as his was left back at the school along with the rest of his possessions. She nodded in response, she always kept a charger in each room of the house. The brunette went over to the small desk in the room and opened the drawer, retrieving the charger before handing it to Nick with a smile on her face. Whatever he did must have been terrible as the school wouldn't let him back in. His little outburst about some old books she found quite amusing but didn't show any physical response to his words.
As she turned to go, she listened as Nick spoke up once more, saying the reason he can't go back to the school was because he badly injured a fellow student of his. No one but him knew about the attack but he had to keep on the down low in case the school did find out it was him. Nari looked at him and blinked, seeing the semi-worried look in his eyes, thinking she would reject him because of what he did. Why would she do something silly like that? Nari wrote another message before showing it to Nick, a semi-confused expression on her own face. 'And? Is that it? Hurting another student? I won't go and ask what it was about but at least you didn't go as far as to kill them...at least that's how you made it out to be. Trust me, you could have done a lot worse things. This seems very little, like practically nothing.' her message read. She wouldn't give away that she was a villain, but she wasn't the best at 'cheering up' or 'comforting' others as she never had to do so before. 'I can assure you, you can take shelter here and not get found out.' the second part of her message read.

Nari’s seeming lack of care about the fact Nick had harmed another student was eyebrow-raising to say the least. He had expected her to demand to know why, yet she did not seem even mildly perturbed. Not that he was not relieved she did not pry at him, but he found himself wondering if there was more to her than things had seemed until then. The average person would not just brush off such a thing, surely…
“I’m grateful for that,” he said in response to the last part of her message. The sentence immediately before that, though, about how what he had done could not have been that bad brought Rin’s terrified face into his mind once again. He let out a mirthless, bitter chuckle. “It wasn’t nothing. Trust me.” He was still reluctant to reveal the whole truth, but Nari’s apparent indifference made him feel slightly more confident in elaborating just a little, if only because he was now growing curious about her and wanted to see how she would further react. “I thought I loved her, or something like that, but she’d never love me. So I hurt her. A lot. She’s not dead, in fact she’ll probably be back at Yuuei now.” He shrugged. “That’s what you do to someone when you’re as alone as me, I guess.”

So maybe he was going to share what happened with her after all. Nari took a seat on the bed beside her and looked up at Nick as he explained his situation, watching as he took a seat as well. He had hurt a girl he loved as she did not return his feelings, simple as that. While the teen angst was nothing Nari could sympathize with, it seemed like it had really stung Nick, to the point of leaving him like he was before he messaged her. What she did sympathize with was the alone feeling, though she did have her mother with her, she still missed her father dearly. She even hurt people, killed people, because they were some of the reasons why he was taken in the first place. Sure she killed for fun most of the time, but sometimes things got personal.
Nari reached for the notepad and pencil beside her wanting to right a message in response but her fingers wouldn't move. Did she think she could trust him with such a minor secret? He had trusted her with what he was most vulnerable about and she didn't turn him away, perhaps he would do the same for her. Nari managed to write a small message before handing the pencil and notepad over to Nick before turning to look at him, green orbs looking into black ones. 'I suppose since we're sharing secrets, I can let you in on something I've kept hidden from most people...' her note read. With a small sigh, the brunette opened her mouth, "The truth is, I can actually speak," she told him, her voice soft yet calming.

Ah. So there was more to Nari than met the eye. Nick’s suspicions were proven correct, and thus he found his eyebrows narrowing for just a second as he wondered what else she had kept from him. What kind of person was she really? What did she do? And why even fake being mute in the first place? She must have lead quite a dull life if pretending to be mute was her idea of fun. He almost said as much, but managed to bite it back. It was probably unwise to be so rude to the person who was essentially his rescuer.
“I see,” he said instead, doing his best to maintain a neutral demeanour. “Interesting.” He wanted to pry for more, though she had not pried at him, so was it truly fair to do so?
He was somewhat annoyed that she had lied to him and continued to do so for a while after he had reached out to her for help. He fought off a scowl.
“I’m sure you must have had your reasons,” he continued. Trust issues, perhaps? “I’m surprised you could keep it going for so long. Writing those notes all the time must have grown tiresome. Still, you don’t have anything to fear from me.” Which he realised was not very convincing after he just admitted to seriously harming another student, but too late, the words were out.

Sure, she hid her voice from other people, it was quite fun to see their reactions when they found out she was 'mute'. She'd make up some sad story about it and they'd treat her as a 'poor little thing, suffering from normal world problems'. She liked to mess with people's heads, confuse them so they'd never know who she truly was. Many may frown at her game but they didn't know how much fun it was to the brunette.
By the tone in his voice and the slight look in his eye, he was quite curious about her voice and motives behind her little 'game' but she would not reveal that to him, no no, this was still part of the game and she hadn't intended to end it so quickly. She looked at him and smiled, seeing the slightly annoyed look in his eyes and the oh so ever twitch of his eyebrow. She nodded in response to his comment about her having certain reasons as to why she played a mute, those of which she would never tell him. No one needed to know why she did things a certain way. He made an interesting point about keeping the game up for son long, spurring her to say, "I've kept it up for longer before, but I trust you to know my little secret. The notes were quite fun to write actually, it helps me improve my handwriting skills." She was glad to know she had nothing to fear from him, perhaps they could be friends after all...what was even true friendship in the first place?
"If you want to go back to sleep, you are more than welcome to. My mother is home and I told her of your arrival if you wish to go back downstairs at all before dinner," the girl with green eyes told her new 'friend'. It was still rather early so she wouldn't make dinner for a while, still it was something to keep in mind.

Sceptical. That was the best word to describe Nick as he looked Nari over, analysing her now for any slight changes in body language that could indicate she was hiding more from him. He grew a little distracted the more his critical eyes wandered. She did have quite a nice figure…
He caught himself, mildly bemused as to where such thoughts were coming from, not helped at all by the small, stupid part of his brain taking that moment to remind him there’s a girl in your room. The rest of him yelled at that part to shut up. It was not the girl he wanted.
And it never would be.
He winced at that thought and looked away from Nari. “I suppose there’s worse things to pretend to be.” Like in love with him. The memory of how he had asked that of Rin came back like a knife to the chest. Again he visibly winced. Hard. What the hell had he been thinking? Of course trying to pretend had only made coming back to reality again a thousand times worse.
He dipped his head, feeling as though a great weight was pressing down on him.
“I need to figure out where I go from here,” he said. “But that’s nothing you need to be concerned about. I’ll manage, the same way I always do.” Which was ‘somehow’. Though on the outside he seemed indifferent to everything, inside his mind buzzed away in its attempts to figure out what he should do with himself. He still had a decent amount of money in his bank account. Mother had ensured he did not come to Japan empty-handed. It might have been enough to rent a place, though the concerns ate away at his mind that contacting his Mother for help was inevitable.
“So you live with your mother, do you?” he remarked in a distant tone. “That’s nice. I hope she’s good to you.”
And you’re fucking lucky if she is, he added in his mind alone.

"True true. I could be a cannibal for all you know, or someone that likes to hoard thousands upon thousands of bizarre objects in my home. I promise I am not but still, you never truly know who someone else really is," the brunette said looking up at the noirette. The green eyed girl noticed a sudden drop in his personality, making the girl frown in result. She shakily reached her hand up to hold his shoulder in a light grasp, as if to say that it was alright. The way he said that finding his own way was none of her concern made her a bit angry at him. "Of course it's my concern now. You are taking shelter in my home. If I can help you then I will," she said looking at him, never taking her eyes off of him in case she might miss something.
Before she could say much else, he shifted the topic to her mother, asking if she had lived with her. "Ah yes, I live with my mother currently. My father....well, he was imprisoned for a wrongdoing he never committed. It pains me every day to know that he's rotting in jail while the man that did the crime is still out walking the streets," she told Nick, a half truth and a half lie, though she'd never say which was which. "She is really good to me though. I try to do my best to help support her since my father cannot be with us.Do you still have contact with your family?" the brunette asked, not sure if he had family here in Japan or not since he was a foreign student.
