I often feel like a butterfly with broken wings It was the end of day and there was ,probably, just around one or two more hours of sun in the capital of Japan. However, it was the hour Yoru mentioned when arranging this meeting with Ryuusei. Actually, it was around 10 minutes before the time they had agreed - like it was habit, Ryuu always liked to arrive early - even if, because of his dislike of vehicles, he had walked all the way from Musutafu to Tokyo.
It was a considerable amount of time walking from his home to that park in the middle of Tokyo and Ryuu was already sweating a bit because of it, but he saw it as some kind of warm-up. Warm-up? The kid who didn't like to move at all, wasn't sure about the whole "being a hero thing" and just likes to stay at home, play the piano and some videogames? Yes - this day Ryuusei Igarashi was about to do parkour for the first time. He didn't even remeber how he got himself in such a situation. Inside Yuuei, he usually hung out with Yoru when he wasn't alone with Rin or all by himself, so he knew that one of the things that Yoruhi liked to do the most was parkour. But how he got invited to go with him and actually accepted was, for some reason, blurred out from his head. Especially because he was sure that, a few months ago, he wouldn't even put himself in a situation in which such an opportunity could arrive. Did that meant somethig?
Ryuusei thought that it actually could. Since meeting Yoru on the second day of classes they bounded really quickly and became something someone would "friends". After that, they worked alongside each other when the accident at the Herr Kunshu's Circus happened. Despite that being an unfortunate situation, one part of Ryuu actually enjoyed it - it was like a real-life videogame. If it wasn't Yoru inviting him he wouldn't have accepted to do such a demanding physical activity. But spending time with the flame Quircker felt, somehow, really right. Not that Ryuu would ever tell him that, of course.
Sitting on a bench, he was wearing a black bandana to keep his hair from falling in front of his eyes and didn't have his usual earring on. As for clothing, he was wearing a simple white t-shirt, black running shorts and running shoes of the same color. Since they were going to run, he had left home without his cellphone.
At this point in time, Ryuusei didn't even imagine what would happen some hours later.

I see you through the flood See you through the fire See you through the storms-a-raging
❧ It was a spur of the moment decision when Yoru walked up to Ryuusei one day and said “Come practice parkour with me at the park” without leaving a chance for refusal. It wasn’t at all posed as a question, but still, it made Yoru somewhat surprised when his demand was actually accepted.
He had known Ryuusei as a quiet, stoic, somewhat bored-looking guy, and it somehow irked him that the boy was barely showing reactions during conversations. However, the memory of the Kunshuu festival was still vivid in his mind and he remembered how revitalizing it was to see Ryuusei there, and work together with him. That might have been one of the reasons he asked for a parkour session, which, he suspected, would turn into either rookie practice for Ryuusei, or a simple show-off session for Yoru. He would be fine with either, so long as he could spend time with the boy and get to know his classmate better.
Sporting his simplest black shirts with a pair of khaki shorts and track shoes, Yoru arrived to the meeting point just a few minutes late. A set of belt-chains were tinkling at his side as he skidded to a halt near Ryuusei from behind him. A simple waist-bag was fastened to his belt, just big enough to secure his phone and a little bit of money in case they will need something to drink later. Yoru will DEFINITELY need something to drink later. He was obviously running toward their meeting point for who knows how long, and he was still barely getting a little sweaty. His hair was more of a mess than usual due to the run, but his eyes were ever sparkling with the same yellow hue, as if glowing from his own flames. His arms were bare, and a few healed burning marks were visible just above his wrists, but that was nothing unusual.
“Hey.” He panted slightly from his run and raised his hand for a greeting. While the park was not the best place for real freerunning, it had enough obstacles in forms of monkey bars, skateboard roads, benches and trees to provide some help for a little practice. For Yoru, it was simple, but for Ryuusei, it would be perfect for a start. “Ready for some running? You need stamina, and who knows, it might help regulate your breathing.” He had known from their first meeting that breathing was important for Ryuusei’s quirk, and what better way to enhance that than doing sports, especially running.
He leaped to a bench and jumped on its headboard with one swift movement, and turned toward his classmate, looking at him from there, balancing on the middle of his feet. “So, how much do you actually know of parkour? My guess is that you can at least run and jump.” He smirked, words intended to be teasing, but his eyes said that he was excited to have a potential partner in freerunning.

I often feel like a butterfly with broken wings Sitting in a relaxed manner - arms spread out across the bench and legs crossed - Ryuusei awaited for Yoruhi to arrive. It didn't take long. Maybe only five minutes after Ryuu's arrival, Yoru appeared at the park. Approaching in a slow run, Ryuu's classmate and friend was totally dressed to the part - and he was making it look cool as hell. It even made Ryuusei look to himself for a brief second and thinking that he could also use one chain or two, Those thoughts were irony though - he knew he couldn't pull off such look. Yo, he raised his hand back at Yoruhi. He then stood up, going near the messy haired teen. It seemed like he had been running for a long time but, at the same time, by the lack of sweat, one could've though that he had just done the smallest of sprints. Yeah, that might do me good - he said. He looked at his friend while he jumped onto the bench.Ryuu took the chance to start stretching out a bit. That's what he was supposed to do before physical exercise right? Yeah yeah, I can do all that, lead the way - he responded to Yoru before teasing him back - But don't cry when you realize that I have much more potential at this than you, okay?
Of course Ryuu didn't believe that - he would probably suck, wheter it would be at practicing at the park or going straight to the streets of Tokyo. But it was going to be a good afternoon. Yoru just had to start running - Ryuusei would always follow him. Notes: --- Words: 276. Tags: Yoruhi Honookaen

I see you through the flood See you through the fire See you through the storms-a-raging
❧ Yoru himself was already warmed up. Approaching their meeting point with a run was exactly for the purpose of loosening his muscles for more running to come, but if he was honest with himself, he never felt himself being not warmed up. Ryuusei’s responses weren’t quite eager, but that was nothing new from the always stoic classmate. It almost seemed like he was waving Yoru’s words off as an annoyance, but when the teasing began, a shit eating grin crept onto Yoru’s face. “Try your best, greenhorn!”
He barely looked around for a particular course to do, and settled his sight on something far behind himself. Still balancing on the top of the bench, he adjusted his stance to turn his body sideways.
“Do you see that fountain?” Yoru pointed toward a simple water fountain with a female statue in the middle some hundred meters ahead. There were various benches, and railings between them and the fountain. “Let’s race toward it. There is only one rule: avoiding obstacles is forbidden. You have to go above them. Or. You know. Under. Whatever. But you can’t go around anything that gets in your way. Got it? Go!”
And without so much as a warning, he leaped into action, jumping from the bench and kicking his body forward in a sprint. He wasn’t going fast enough to be impossible to pass, and he turned his torso halfway backward to yell another little tidbit.
“And do not worry about the people around, they usually don’t care to stop us anyway!” He turned back forward just in time to see the next bench getting near as he approached it, and without missing so much as a breath, jumped over it with a somersault. Reaching out, his fingers barely touched the backboard, his knees were pulled close to his chest but he never lost buoyancy. In a seamless motion his feet touched the ground again and he continued on toward a railing that reached past his waist. Going under it would have been the easier thing to do, so he vaulted himself over it, grabbing the top with one hand during the jump and yet again landing and continuing the motion as if there never was a jump at all.
He only barely glanced back to see how his friend way faring, because really, he didn’t want this meeting to be only about him showing off his skills. Okay, maybe he wanted that a little bit, but still.

I often feel like a butterfly with broken wings Of course I see it, I do have eyes, he replied to Yoru's question while looking at the fountain at which the messy haired teen was pointing at. It was a little far away from both of them, but at the same time not that far. The more concerning part was the amount of things Ryuu would've to go through just in order to reach that meeting pointing... things and people, since the location was full of men and women passing by. Trying to analyze and see what would be the easiest path to the fountain - meaning, the one that would have the less obstacles in front of Ryuu - the honey colored eyes kid was caught by surprise with Yoru's final words. "Got it? Go!"And, just like that, Yoruhi jumped from the bench and, basically, over Ryuusei, starting to sprint in the direction of the female statue, turning his head back just to warn Ryuusei to not worry about the people in the area. So scared that you need an head start, Yoru-kun?! Ryuu yelled as he himself started to sprint. It wasn't that he didn't knew how to run or got himself tired super easily - the last part was even improving as each day passed, probably because of him walking everywhere he went. It was more that there was never a clear goal when he got demanded to run. But this... this was competion. And it was a competition against Yoru. Imagining the look on the fireboy's face if he lost to him was a pretty cool image and it would make Ryuu able to tease Yoru for a long, long time. Yeah, that was enough motivation for, at least, try and be decent at the whole parkour thing. But, of course, Ryuu trying his best wasn't nearly enough to beat someone who had been doing that kind of activity for years. In the way, Ryuu bumped into at least two different persons, which resulted in him losing speed... and getting some menacing stares. Also, despite being able to dodge every obstacle - wheter going above or underneath it - he didn't have the finesse to do it like Yoru, resulting in him always losing precious time everytime he had to deal with something in front of him. Arriving at the fountain, Yoruhi had already been there for almost one minute. Ryuusei was panting a little bit, but not that much. However, looking at his friend, he could notice that Yoru wasn't even breaking a sweat... that bastard. Just so you know, you only arrived first because you decided to start without me, he added with a little ironic laugh at the end, signalating that Ryuu didn't exactly believe those words and was more joking with Yoru. Tightening his bandana, he wondered what Yoru had planned for them next - if Ryuu knew him, that little run was probably just the warm-up. Notes: First run is done! Words: 487. Tags: Yoruhi Honookaen

I see you through the flood See you through the fire See you through the storms-a-raging
❧ Rather than a headstart, he just wanted to start the run as soon as possible. Only a slight grin was the answer to Ryuu’s jab though. He said it was a race, but really, it was just a little fun with a friend, and in the meantime, maybe they can develop some much needed muscle on Ryuu’s body. That boy will need endurance if he wants to get the best out of his quirk that was heavily linked to his breathing.
He only had to sidestep one pedestrian and her dog to continue on without a problem. The next two branches were dealt with a haul, and as the female statue grew near, he stepped up on the edge of the fountain just above the knee-high water, watching Ryuu arrive from up above. At least NOW he was taller than his classmate, who was usually topping him by a meager five centimeters. Only barely panting from the run, but not at all breaking a sweat, he was waiting for his friend to gather himself.
“Well, if we consider how late you started compared to me, you might be right.” He made a point by checking an invisible watch on his wrist theatrically. “Maybe it is your reaction time that we should be working on, what do you think?” He wasn’t quite expecting a reply, so his eyes checked the surroundings for the next short course for them to take. He was taking his time, acting as if he was just now trying to think of the best possible route, but instead he was just giving enough time for Ryuu to catch his breath.
“Okay, next one is that way.” He pointed toward a currently empty playground with bars, swings and seesaws, the distance being about the same as the route to the fountain. “The bench just past that playground. The only additional rule is that you have to climb through the monkey bar one way or another. Ready?” A momentary pause. “Go!”
As there was only one railing and a broken bench in the way, the greatest obstacle was obviously the giant jungle gym itself. While the place was made for preschoolers, the bars were complicated the big enough for the two of them to climb through with a little trouble, although getting inside the bars would prove some difficulty. They were teenagers, and the gaps weren’t wide enough everywhere to let their shoulders fit through, though a more stubborn one would probably manage. Yoru swore not to try and get past the obstacle through the gaps again, as the first time he tried a few weeks ago, he tangled himself and ended up with a swollen ankle, a nearly dislocated shoulder, and broken pride when the two preschoolers and their mom were laughing at him. Yeah, that was something he wouldn’t risk, and decided it was better to bury even the memory deep into his consciousness.
Jumping up on the jungle gym’s side and crawling his way up and through its top, Yoru jumped with another flashier somersault on the other side of it, repeating a roll as he landed to soften his collision with the ground. He was uncaring about the state of his clothes, as he knew whenever he was out for a run, he would get dirty from the landings and the climbs either way. He was beside the bench when he turned around to check how Ryuu was dealing with the playground.
He had to admit, the other boy was more fit and determined than he gave him credit for. He assumed Ryuu to be the classical wallflower who would break a bone from the wind blowing his way, but he was really trying his best, and seemed to be willing to do more.

I often feel like a butterfly with broken wings Yeah, yeah - he responded to Yoru's reaction time comment as he was finishing tying his bandana and his best friend looked around the area. Ryuusei was breathing funny, but nothing that he couldn't handle. Walking everywhere gave him enough stamina for this kind of activity, it was just his body that wasn't really used to it. The more they continued, the more Ryuu's legs would hurt - and the more heavy his breathing would become. However, that wasn't the case right. So, when Yoru decided the path they would take next, Ryuu was already good to go. "(...) Ready?” It's that one over there, rig-“Go!” STOP DOING THAT! he yelled as he instantly began running behind Yoruhi. Getting to the playground wasn't as troublesome as the previous run. This time, Ryuusei was more cautious in order to not hit anyone or trip somewhere, all while maintaining his pace. This made that he didn't fall that much behind his classmate, unlike the previous run. After getting over the railing and broken bench without much difficulty, he observed Yoru handle the jungle gym before proceeding himself. Hmm, okay, he though as Yoru arrived at the top and prepared his jump. Ryuu didn't feel the need to show of in any way or form. It would be more embarassing to fall or hurt himself, with Yoru having to help him, than to just be slow. So, at a steady pace, he approached the structure exactly how Yoru did. However, no flashy movements or sommersaults - Ryuu just didn't have the ability to do such things. So, after taking more time than Yoruhi did, Ryuusei arrived near the bench that had been designated as their finish line. If, previously, Ryuu took almost one entire minute o catch up, that time had been reduced by at least 15 seconds. Not that great but, for a first timer, also not that bad. He was panting, his body slightly curved as his hands were being supported by his own knees. You do this everyday? - Ryuu talked inbetween his breathing - Couldn't you, like, do yoga or something like that? - he asked as he straighten his body again. There was already a little bit of sweat running down Ryuu's face. However - and despite his previous words- he was enjoying the exercise. He could see why Yoru liked doing parkour so much: it gave a sense of freedom... if Ryuu felt that doing such simple things, he could only imagine what his best friend felt when he did his usual more risky routes. So, maybe trying to eat more than what he could chew, Ryuu teased Yoru, asking for more. So, is this it? I was expecting more of a «let's climb that building and jump from roof to roof» type of stuff, he laughed a bit. With Yoru, Ryuusei didn't feel the need to hide himself. One could say that he was being a totally different person than usual, but that would be wrong - the kind was just being his natural self. Notes: --- Words: 510. Tags: Yoruhi Honookaen

I see you through the flood See you through the fire See you through the storms-a-raging
❧ Ryuu was honestly exceeding his expectations. As it seemed, he had some basic stamina for this kind of exercise, and he appeared to be barely out of breath after the second run. He wasn’t even that far behind either, which meant he was getting faster as he warmed up too. That, or he was just getting used to Yoru’s speed and adjusted his own accordingly. If that was true, this guy was hella adaptable as well, which was even more of a plus in parkour. Or in anything, really.
“Yoga is boring.” he replied automatically. Aside from that, meditation wasn’t his thing either, which was apparently a part of yoga. Last time he even tried to do it, he imaginarily re-decorated his entire room, planned his next day and decided what to cook that night for his parents before he opened his eyes and realized only one minute passed that he was supposed to spend with meditation. He couldn’t handle another second of that. “This is a good stress-reliever, and it also helps me work off excess energy in case my fire would burst out accidentally.” He explained casually, as if that was the most natural conclusion he could find.
“A rooftop run would be a bit much for you yet. I’m not even sure you can fall and land safely in case you trip.” His head was raised suddenly, as if he just realized what he said. “Wait, do you know the rules of safe landing at all?” He grabbed a fistful of hair on the side of his head. “Man, maybe I should have started with the safety measures. Oh well. You are better than you look, so maybe you can learn as you go. Anyway...” After he convinced himself that it was okay for Ryuu to learn by experience and figure out the safest ways of a freerun by himself, he looked around for the next direction they should be taking. His eyes settled on a stone wall just outside of the edge of the park, and he hummed to himself.
“So you want something more challenging, huh? Okay then. We will try to climb a wall.” Just like before, he raised his arm and pointed toward the whitewashed wall that was a bit shy of three meters tall, and was probably hiding either a house or the parking lot of a convenience store behind. In their way, there was only one bench and a rather long clearing of grass to reach their destination. “That is the goal.” He didn’t say that the rules were the same as before, as he assumed Ryuu would continue to abide by them. “Ready?” He stared at his classmate. Grinned. Wiggled his eyebrow. The boy should know what was coming--- “Go!”
Yoru jumpstarted, and he half-expected Ryuu to do the same as he was getting used to Yoru’s hyperactive nature of refusing to wait for his partner to act. This run was easy, the bench was only a thing to be jumped over, and the clearing was perfect to gain momentum to climb the goal. The wall was obviously the main obstacle this time. Yoru kept his pace steady and fast, gaining speed just a few meters in front of it so he had the buoyancy to run up it. The trick was to keep the pace and the leg movement and literally trick physics into letting you run vertically. He reached up when he could feel gravity realizing it made a mistake in letting him run upward and trying to crash him down. He grabbed the top of the stone wall and pulled himself up with ease, seating himself on top riding-style, legs dangling on either side of the wall.
Yet again, he looked back to see how Ryuu was doing, and readied himself to reach out and pull the guy up in case he needed help with the wall. He didn’t care about passerbies looking at him funny as he sat up there.

Dreams breathe life into men. The stars... I'll reach them.
“Wait, do you know the rules of safe landing at all?”
It was a good question. An important one aswell. The truth was that, in fact, Ryuusei had really no idea about what he was doing. He was just being a copycat: seeing Yoru and imitating his movements as best as he could. So far it been going well, at least for someone with no prior experience. But his best friend was right: probably jumping out of buildings with no notion about how to safely land wasn't the best of ideas. As Yoru continued to speak, he let out that Ryuu was actually doing well... But, of course, he said it in a masked way. Better than you look... What is that supposed to mean, Yoru-kun?! he thought, jokingly, before giving him a reply. Don't worry, if I break my legs I'll make sure that everyone knows that it was your fault.Yoru would partially give in to the request of a more challeging activity. Climbing a vertical wall. Fair enough. After poiting at the destination, Yoru once again said the magic word. "Ready?"They both looked at each other, Ryuu already in a print-ready pose. Yeah, you're not getting a head start again. As Yoru said "Go", thet both started running at the same time. However, there was a clear difference between both boys. Yoruhi was faster, something that made itself more evident due to his better stamina at the time. Once Ryuu was jumping over the bench, Yoruhi was already graciously running up the wall. It really is a great stress-reliever for you Yoru, Ryuusei thought mid-air over the bench while seeing Yoru's face climbing the wall, a smile on the spiky-haired boy face. Ryuusei hit the wall at a good speed. Hismovements were actually a lot like a cat: despite lazy and not looking much fast, his agility and pace made him actually rather quick. The problem was his complete lack of technique. When he was about to grab the ledge of the wall, on of his feet slipped from the wall. Stopping in the air, gravity was beginning to work and making sure to make the Igarashi go back to the ground. Thankfully Yoru remained at the spot and was able to grab Ryuusei's hand, pushing him and helping him up. Panting and with his hands on his knees, Ryuu didn't thank him. Afterall, friends don't need that kind of thing. He took a mental note that he owned one to Yoru. You make that seem a lot easier than what is actually is, he opted to say. After a pause to ragain his breath, he continued to talk. So, what will we do ne-Before he could finish his sentence, a window broke. Someone screamed for help. Ahead of them was a convenience store. From the broken glass door a man ran from inside the place. Surprisingly, his face wasn't covered despite it looking ike a clear robbery. Perhaps it hadn't been planned? During Ryuusei's confusion, he had no idea what was going on inside Yoruhi's mind. Notes: Parkour's over - a robber appears!Words: 512.Tags: Yoruhi Honookaen

I see you through the flood See you through the fire See you through the storms-a-raging
❧ Yoru quickly decided that safe-landing will be the next lesson in parkour for Ryuu. Even if the boy was rather good at following example and learning from experience, he could do without seeing his friend break a bone or two when he attempted jumps.
“I knew I can count on you.” He deadpanned when Ryuu mentioned he would tell everyone that it was Yoru’s fault he broke a bone in case an accident happened. But he knew a joke when it was told in such an obvious way, so he wasn’t able to keep up the pokerface for long before grinning.
As expected, Ryuu was not fooled by the sudden start a third time. For the first few moments, they were head-to-head, before Yoru picked up the pace and reached the goal at the first place again. Running, jumping, climbing, it was as if he was free, as if there was nothing he couldn’t overcome. Nothing could hold him back, nothing existed that could make him stop. Parkour meant freedom, and it was a representation of his own soul.
Once he was comfortable on top of the wall, he was ready to help Ryuu out in case he needed it. Ryuu was swift, he had the bodily ability to gain enough knowledge and experience in parkour if he was really interested, but as it appeared, he lacked exactly that – experience. Yoru was there though, reaching out for his hand when gravity wanted to take him, and pulled his friend up next to him on top of the wall. He let Ryuusei catch his breath, and he was also regulating his own breathing to a normal pace so they could continue going whenever they wanted to.
“Duh.” He answered, as if it was completely natural that he could do it easier. “I have been doing this for a while. If you turned out to be as good as me right from the start, I would be ashamed.” But there was no way Yoru would give up his crown when it came to parkour. This was a passion, a way of life, rather than a hobby.
He didn’t have to wait for too long before Ryuu asked about the next course of action curiously, but they were both startled by a crash and a scream coming from nearby. Just past the stone wall they were sitting on, across the parking lot was a convenience store, now with a broken door and a horrified-looking shop clerk in front of it. Yoru’s head turned just in time to catch a good glimpse of the man running away.
His blood froze, despite being of pure fire.
He knew that person. But that was impossible. He shouldn’t be here in Tokyo, least of all robbing a convenience store.
His eyes were blown wide, his body went rigid, but before he could find reasons or think about consequences, he acted, and leaped off the wall. There was no ready-and-go this time, and if Ryuu was any slower, Yoru would disappear from sight behind the corner of the store, right where the robber run off to.
His mind was blank while his body raced to catch up with the man. Just like Yoru, this person was utilizing his ability to jump over railings and steps to get as far away from the scene as fast as possible. But Yoru’s whole body was concentrating on catching this person, and he knew the area better. The way the robber went will be a dead end, another wall that would slow anyone down except a parkour expert. Yoru jumped toward the side, catching the end of a fire-escape to gain a higher ground, and by jumping from one step to another, he was able to get near the man, and with a last leap, land just in front of him before the robber would be able to climb the wall.
The shock was more than enough to halt the man in his escape, and Yoru stared him down, orange eyes shining brightly even though his flame was nowhere to be seen.
The robber was maybe a year or two older than him, dark-haired, face sharp, despite it belonging to a teen. He was taller by only an inch, though definitely bulkier compared to the more stringy Yoru. But still, he took a step back, staring at the U.A. student in disbelief.
“...Yokkun?!!”
He was hugging a smaller, packed bag to his chest, obviously filled with the loot of whatever it was that he robbed from the convenience store. Yoru only glanced at it briefly, and instead, kept staring at the man.
“Daichi.” Both of his arms were covered by stone. Yoru remembered that kind of skin transformation to be the man’s quirk, although back then he was barely able to cover one hand with the material. “What the hell are you d---?”
“Why’re ya here?!”
“I live here, damnit!” Yoru’s patience was thin. “What’re you doing here? What the hell? Why are you looting a convenience store?”
“You’ve no right tha’ judge me!”
”A robbery, damnit?!”
“Shut up!”
Daichi tried to get past Yoru and jump away, but the hero student wouldn’t let him off that easy. He would leap just in front of him to stand in his way. Yoru’s back was toward the dead-end of the alley. If Daichi decided to turn and run toward the exit, Yoru would be able to follow him easily, not to mention they would probably run into other people coming their way. He wouldn’t let this guy get away. Not without getting the loot back, and not without getting answers. “You had a hard-on for justice and now you are doing petty crimes? Are you nuts?!”
“You guys ran away from tha’ gang, so ya have no right tha’ say anythin’! Coward! Traitor!”
That was almost a slap to the face, but his flame crown was still not appearing. Just what the hell happened? They disbanded, everyone went on their way! There was no reason for an Okinawa kid to appear in Tokyo again after so many years! Daichi was the kind of person to save a kitten from a tree, and walk elderly people across the street. This guy, standing in front of him, running away from a crime scene with a packed bag was anything but the person Yoru remembered. It made him incredibly angry, so angry that it suppressed his emotions altogether.
He almost forgot about Ryuu, who was probably near them by that time...

Dreams breathe life into men. The stars... I'll reach them.
Maybe we should call the police or check if the store lady is fine, Ryuusei said besides Yoru as the man fleed the scene of the crime. Ryuu didn't feel like getting involved. He knew that despite being an Yuuei student - the first ever Hero School - he had no authority to persue, fight or arrest criminals. In fact, such thing could lead only to more trouble than merit. He had already been scolded by the Principal once - he did not want that to happen twice. He waited for Yoru's response, but nothing came. That was when, with the corner of his left eye, Ryuu decided to look at his best friend's face. It was like Yoruhi had been put inside of a freezer, like he had seen a ghost. That wasn't normal. Yoru would never react that way to such a small crime. So why? Why did the orange eyed boy looked so shocked by the event that was happening right in front of him. Yoru, are you okay?As Ryuuse turned his body to the other 1-A boy and was moving his arm in order to place his right hand on the spiky-haired kid's shoulder, Yoru began running: a furious run, contrary to the carefree and weightless steps he took while parkouring. What th- Yoruhi, wait!
And, just like that, Ryuusei began running as fast as he could, jumping the wall and following Yoru while trying his best not to lose sight of him. What the hell is happening, he doesn't look like himself! he thought as his heart was throbbing inside his chest. Both Yoru and the robber were parkouring their way throught the busy Tokyo streets, doing an excellent job of avoiding all bystanders while keeping maximum speed. As Ryuu tried to catch up he was quick to notice how the movements of both males were extremely identical. Maybe he's a training partner? Ryuusei asked himself, refering to the possible identity of the robber being a parkour buddy of Yoru's, which would explain his best-friend's unusual reaction. What frustrated Ryuusei the most was his inability to catch up. He wasn't risking trying to parkour and end up falling, losing sight of Yoru completely by doing so. He thought it was best to run in a regular way while trying to avoid obstacles or people, which meant having a greater distance separating him from his target but reducing the risk of losing him. They're getting further away.As the robber turned to a corner in one of the streets, Yoruhi jumped over to a fire escape. After that, Ryuusei was too behind to see anything more. He was surprisingly worried about Yoru. Ryuu usually didn't care. He didn't like to. Caring only brought pain, he knew that much. But something about his friendship with Yoru... He couldn't let that stupid fire kid do something stupid - Ryuusei wouldn't allow it. Sorry, I'm in a hurry! Coming through! Excuse me, sorry! he yelled as he literally pushed civilians out of the day, probably even throwing the ones who weren't paying attention to the floor. If Ryuusei ever became a Hero he should hope that any of those people remembered his face. When he finally turned the corner of the street, he saw that he got lucky. It was a long alley dedicated only to putting out and picking up trash. Becase of this, it was also a dead end. “You guys ran away from tha’ gang, so ya have no right tha’ say anythin’! Coward! Traitor!”Those were the only words that Ryuusei heard and they were coming from the robbers mouth. Had they been talking during the time Ryuusei was trying to reach the alley? And what the hell did the guy meant by calling Yoruhi a traitor and a coward? Running from the gang?! Was Yoru... It didn't matter: Ryuusei trusted his best friend at 100%. Even if it was true it did not matter. What mattered was that the robber was cornered: in front of him and protecting the wall at the end of alley was Yoru and behind him, protecting the exist to the main street, was Ryuusei. The brown - with shades of dark blonde - haired kid was still recovering his breath, but chose to talk in his usual tone. Robbing a place with no mask is a really dumb move, you know? - he paused while straightening his body - Just leave the bag on the floor and make this easy, the police should be arriving at any minute now.
It was a bluff. Ryuusei didn't even brought his phone with him and Yoruhi probably knew this, but the robber didn't. However, with the trouble that Ryuusei caused on the main street by trying to arrive to the alley in time, it wasn't impossible that a civilian decided to call the authorities... I see you through the flood See you through the fire See you through the storms-a-raging
❧ Concentrating on Daichi in front of him was the only thing Yoru was capable to do while his emotions were going haywire. Coward? Traitor? Him?! The gang disbanded, no one remained so there was no one to run away from. They decided consensually to stop their meddling after the incident, and never to talk about it again. The fact Daichi was here, doing the exact opposite he was so hellbent on when younger was an indicator of something going wrong. As if the whole world was turning on itself.
He saw movement from the corner of his eyes behind Daichi, and his eyes widened a fraction when his sight locked on Ryuu. Right. Ryuu was there too, but being the single-track minded idiot he was, Yoru almost forgot about him as soon as he sighted their robber.
How much did he hear? There was a reason Yoru never talked about what happened before he came to U.A., as he knew that vigilantism would fire his chances at being a hero. But really, more than anything, he was terrified of being judged for what happened back then, for what his young and impressionable mind thought he was able to do. With Daichi here, secrets were thrown into the open, a sleeping beast poked.
Ryuu, that stupid boy, image of the calm and collected mind already jumped into the conversation, and gained Daichi’s attention. The older boy’s head snatched Ryuu’s way, eyes wide. Feeling as a trapped rat, he wasn’t able to take a step in either direction without the need to get through either of the boys. He knew what Yoru was capable of. But he had not known anything about this new addition, and the unknown made him decide it would be risky to try and break through and go past Ryuusei. For now, he decided to stay put.
Hearing Ryuusei’s words, Daichi weighted his options, visibly thinking through the meanings and trying to gauge the consequences. The police arriving would be bad news for him. For a long moment, he watched Ryuu intently, but then a smile cracked on his face and a short laugh left him. “Hah, nice try! We’re always doin’ tha’ trick too, when we thought tha baddie was dumb enough tha fall for it.” His laugh turned into a snarl. “Guess what! I know all tha tricks!” He turned back toward Yoru, who stayed uncharacteristically quiet this time. “Who this, a new friend o’ yours? Ya makin’ a new gang or what?” He was seething, angry at the implications, showing teeth while spitting out the words.
Yoru was just as angry, taking a step forward and balling his hands into fists to try and hold back his flames bursting. “Shut yo mouth!” The gangly language resurfaced for a moment, but he switched his sight between Daichi and Ryuusei, trying to figure out what to do, and how to resolve this situation without digging himself deeper in front of his best friend.
Best friend, huh? Will he be able to think of Ryuusei as such after this shitty day was over? He glared daggers at Daichi to make him go quiet, but he should have known better that the daring stone-skinned guy couldn’t keep his mouth shut when his emotions riled up. “It’s just like ya to turn to new friends once tha ol’ ones are borin’, or, I dunno, got destroyed!”
“SHUT UP!”
Yoru leaped. His patience was thin, tried from seeing an old friend be anything but what he remembered aside from the passionate eyes and quirk used. Desperation drove him, because he wanted Daichi to shut up before he destroyed Yoru’s current life. Before Yoru destroyed his own life. Flames burst on his forehead and hands, urging him forward in his jump that must have been as surprising for Daichi as for Yoru himself, because the other couldn’t dodge him at all. Yoru tackled the other to the ground and grabbed him by the collar of his shirt, snarling down at him. He straddled Daichi’s waist as he struggled. “Just stay put!”
A growl, a shout was his answer. “You asshole! Grunt of the litter! No wonder Asaze left!”
Flames disappeared instantly just like candlelight in a storm. Daichi saw his chance and lashed out, smashing his stone-coated lower arm against the side of Yoru’s face. The flame-user fell against one of the many containers lined at the walls of the alley.
Without looking at the damage he did, Daichi jumped to his feet, and ran toward the exit of the dead-end, not risking going past Yoru and above the wall in case he was stopped easier. He decided to risk the unknown, and headed for Ryuu to tackle him, hurt him if necessary, and get out of the trap, out to the open street where he could run again and never be confronted by ghosts of the past, by emotions that he tried to bury deep under the reality of the present. It was just his luck that he met with Yoru, from all people. The person he never wanted to hurt, but still did in his sour desperation.

Dreams breathe life into men. The stars... I'll reach them.
After throwing the only bluff he had at his disposal, a rather physical vulnerable Ryuusei just kept his position - right in the middle of the alleyway, blocking Daichi's easiest path out of there. He had no more cards up his sleeve so, standing there, he was hoping that Daichi just gave up or that Yoru was able to surprise the teen with some kind of attack. After that much running - especially the effort of catching up to both Daichi and Yoruhi - Ryuusei was fatigued, something that did not go along well with himself and his style of fighting, being that God's Alibi is not suited for direct combat and, at that point in time, he was still in the early stages of learning Kuroneko. That confrontation had end fast, fast and in a clean manner. Daichi kept looking at Ryuu, then at Yoru, then at Ryuu once more. A trapped animal weighing in his options. Silence and tension in the hair as the three boys just stared at each other, waiting for one of the others to make the first move. It was then that, finally, Daichi focused his eyes only on Ryuusei. Laughing, he proved to understand that bluff that Ryuusei had risked. This is bad, Ryuu thought. A thought that was interupted at the very next interaction between Daichi and Yoru - they really seemed to go way back. “Who this, a new friend o’ yours? Ya makin’ a new gang or what?”“Shut yo mouth!”“It’s just like ya to turn to new friends once tha ol’ ones are borin’, or, I dunno, got destroyed!”“SHUT UP!”Ryuusei had never seen his best friend in that state. Quirk activated, leaping towards his target in an unpredictable and uncontrolable way. It was what Ryuusei wanted to happen, it was the best way to capture the kid while avoiding an all-out brawl, but... Yoru's eyes... As his classmate told Daichi to stay put while on top of him, Ryuu began walking towards both of them. Yoru, calm down... Ryuu said in an uncharacteristic tone. All that gang stuff, Ryuusei wasn't even caring about all that stuff. Yoru would explain later and even if he didn't - the kid's past didn't matter to Ryuu. What mattered to him was Yoru's present... And that wasn't the typical Yoruhi. Ryuusei couldn't stand that. It was then that Daichi replied. A replied that froze Yoru. Asaze? Ryuu asked to himself as Daichi let out the name that the Class 1-A Vice-President never heard before. The sentence got Yoruhi to let his guard down, his Quirk shut down. It was the opening that Daichi needed. With a ar of stone he punched a defensless Yoru, a Yoru that easily flew with his flames now extinguished. YORU! Ryuusei yelled as he started to run against Daichi. They were running at full-speed against each other, a head-on collision bound to happen. When they were close enough, Ryuusei was the first to throw a punch. He timed it well, hitting Daichi in the face. However, it was Ryuu that sustained the most damage: the boy could use his Quirk well and covered that layer of skin with stone just in time. Then, with the same stone arm with which he had punched Yoru, he punched Ryuusei in the stomach. With the previous running, it was enough to make Ryuusei puke on the spot before falling. When he hit the ground, Daichi was already cutting the corner of the alleyway into the main street, disappearing with the crowd. Complete defeat. Utter humiliation. When Yoruhi needed him the most Ryuusei wasn't capable to rise to the occasion. Slowly getting up while grabing his stomach area, all that Ryuusei could feel was frustration. He spat on the floor, trying to get the taste of the vomit off his mouth. That really wasn't the end that he had envisioneed for that evening. Ryuu began walking to the containers where Yoru had been thrown. Near Yoru, he crouched down in front of him. I'm sorry - he simply said, implying his regret for having allowed the other kid to get away. He then extend his arm, offering his hand to Yoruhi with the intent of helping him get up. Are you fine? he said, his voice warmer than usual. A question that went further than a concern about Yoru's physical state - Ryuu was worried about how he was mentally and what that meeting had brought. Notes: Daichi escapes! I see you through the flood See you through the fire See you through the storms-a-raging
❧ Yoru barely heard Ryuu’s voice through the haze of rage and anxiety that rise further and further up as Daichi stayed at the scene. He tried to do everything to restrain the older boy and keep him down on the ground, to capture him, to shut his mouth or to potentially beat him unconscious to get it all over with. Daichi would just continue to spout the truth that Yoru liked to label as nonsense instead, but when one name, that name was thrown at him, all fire left his body. It was blown away in a wind that name kicked up. And so, Yoru was shown aside, and Daichi attempted his escape.
Being thrown into a container and blacking out for short moments, Yoru was unaware of what was going on with Ryuu and Daichi. He only saw Ryuu when he crouched down and addressed him with a simple apology. Yoru glared at him and almost yelled, but refrained when he saw the state his classmate was in. He blacked out only for moments, but Daichi was nowhere to be found, and Ryuu already looked like he spent all his energy on fighting off a bull. He couldn’t bring himself to bite off the guy’s head when he looked this miserable, and actually apologetic. “Why are you sorry?” He hated how there was an edge in his voice even though Ryuu needed his reassurance, even though he did nothing wrong. Yoru’s shoulders were shaking from the repressed fury and the rush of other emotions, and even when his friend extended a hand, he just looked away. He didn’t even notice how soft his voice was, even though Ryuu was always stoic and showed barely any emotions.
“Fine.” He growled, turned to the side, away from Ryuu, and stood up without taking his hand. He couldn’t do it. He could already feel his insides burning, and he was afraid he would scorch anyone that tried to come near. Why did Daichi have to show up? Why now, when Yoru had a stable, new life going on? Why did he have to remind him of something he tried to desperately run away from?
He turned his back to Ryuu and took two steps toward the dead end of the alley before stopping uncertainly. He grabbed a fistful of messy hair on his temples with both hands, hoping that it would stop him from thinking and feeling all this. Everything was surfacing with a rush, and he didn’t know if it would be better to run through the city and away from all this, or just burn himself up and scream in the middle of the streets.
He didn’t know what to do!
“Do I look fine?” He asked in the end, accusing. He didn’t want to be mean, not to Ryuu, but he couldn’t help it. He had no other way to reply, and he will hate himself for this forever. “Do I?” Yoru turned toward him with a powerful swirl, sparks of his flames falling from his fists when he released his hold on his hair. “Well I am not! This guy! This fucking guy shows up here and he is nothing like how he was and... And! I just, I just don’t get it!” He was so angry, so furious, so afraid and so, so uncertain that he wasn’t even sure what he was saying and to whom exactly.
“And he is saying all those things! What the hell! And you!” He had to get angry at someone. Daichi wasn’t around anymore, the older boy didn’t even let one punch hit him before running away, and Yoru was bursting from all these uncomfortable emotions, and he had to let it all out in some way. Ryuu was the unfortunate guy still around. And like the worst friend ever, exactly as Daichi said, Yoru just turned on him, because there was no one else around to be angry at. “You just let him get away!”
He meant none of it. He was like a scared animal trying to fight his way out of a desperate situation. He didn’t want this to happen, and he didn’t want to turn this furious heat against Ryuu. He was one of the few guys Yoru wished never to hurt, and here he was again... getting lost in passion and talking, yelling before thinking it all through.
Asaze... Why did your name have to come up right now?

Dreams breathe life into men. The stars... I'll reach them.
Physically, they were so close to each other. Ryuusei could even fill the heat coming out of Yoruhi’s body due to the boy’s Quirk. Purifying Flame he called it, didn’t he? But with each blunt response, with each look to the side an invisible wall was being constructed brick by brick - even if none of the boys noticed it. He had his hand ignored. It made sense. Looking at it, it was in fact such a fragile thing. Small, easily broken… How could that hand ever hope to help someone in need? It was a rather pathetic thought. After staring with blank eyes at his own fingers for some seconds, Ryuusei turned his head in the direction that Yoru walked towards. Looking at the back of his best friend while still being crouched made it seem that, in some way, time had stopped. Such perception of time allowed Ryuu to think. What was I thinking? That was the last thing he needed. I know him, I should’ve understood that… - he kept looking at Yoru, who was grabbing his messy brown hair in an nervous, anxious, even angry manner - I should’ve kept my mouth shut until he finished processing all of what happened… I understood that the guy was someone from Yoru’s past and Yoru never talks about his past, so why did I-In the middle of his thoughts filled with regret a voice interrupted him. A familiar yet strange voice. It was Yoru but, at the same time, it wasn’t. Ryuusei kept himself in the same place, crouching and just looking at his friend while he went off. Yoruhi needed to vent out his frustrations and Ryuu was ready to be there to catch all of it. Frustration, even sadness. All those words and emotions contained in them confirmed to Ryuusei what he thought of Yoru: that he really had trouble handling his own emotions. They really were alike, but their output couldn’t be any more different: while Yoruhi exploded outwards, Ryuu chose to hide the explosion within him. Such thing would be proven on that same day, especially due to Yoru’s last words. “You just let him get away!”Hearing that phrase made Ryuusei lower his head, diverting his eyes from Yoru onto the ground. It was dirty. It felt like looking at a mirror, actually. How many times did he look at that same ground when similar accusations were thrown at him in his previous school? So many… Too many to count, actually. “You didn’t help her!” “You stood still while she fought!” “She’s in the hospital because of you!” “Your parents must hate you!” “Susanoo!” “It’s your fault!” “It’s your fault! “It’s your fault!” “It’s your fault!” I’d forgotten about you, buddy. He placed the weak hand that he had offered Yoru on the ground, almost as if caressing it just like one would do with a long lost friend or lover. The wall was now fully built and had solid foundations - and Ryuusei could see it very clearly. But it was then that he noticed it. On the cracks of that cold floor in the middle of that poorly lit and cold alleyway something was growing. A little flower, so little that one wouldn’t be able to see it if not in the position Ryuusei was in just then. A little flower struggling and fighting to live in an environment where such thing was almost impossible. But there she was, growing little by little with her roots well stuck deep underground. With a soft touch and gentle care, Ryuusei passed his fingers through it. He really is a dumbass, isn’t he? Ryuu smiled while looking at the tiny petals. He got up and, like it was nothing, just walked the same amount of steps that Yoru walked before, now being right in front of the boy. Those two steps, however, were big ones. Big enough to tear down a wall, a wall that had no reason for existing. Yoru’s words hurt Ryuusei, but they didn’t come from a place of malice. Ryuu’s brain understood that, even if his heart's reaction was one that came from past experiences. They both saw themselves as the dirty ground, but that was a mistake. They were the flower that was trying its damn hardest to bloom in such a dark world. Ryuusei was beginning to understand that. If Yoru was still trying to reach that conclusion, if Yoru struggled dealing with his past, his emotions and feelings then there was no way in hell that Ryuu would turn his back on his best friend, no matter the circumstances or what was said. Being right in front of Yoru, he did to him what Yaso did so many times. Using his middle and index fingers, Ryuusei poked Yoruhi on the forehead, right in between the eyes. Then, just like his sister did to him, he told Yoru something that he didn’t want him to forget. Your flames are pure. Don’t forget that.A pure flame that warms everyone in touch with it. A flame so pure that any kind of emotion is enough to spread it into a dangerous wildfire. And that was okay, even needed sometimes: Yoru just had to realize that the pureness would never go away. No matter how burnt Ryuusei got, he would always make sure that Yoru didn’t forget that. Notes: The feels!Words: 899.Tags: Yoruhi Honookaen
