The sublimely sinful seduction of science~
❝ Is that the time already? A short sigh escaping the lips of Sophie Sequoia as she spotted just how late the hour had gotten and decided that she had certainly earned her dollar and then some today, the young blonde stretched her arms out and stifled a yawn as she let her gaze linger on a the hand of a clock that was tick tick ticking away to tell her it was already after ten at night, and after shaking her head and her hair out for a moment as a result of this information she stood up and peeled the long white coat she had been wearing off her shoulder. I suppose the day isn’t going to get much younger, is it? Smiling to herself and shaking her head again as she trotted over to the coat hook on the back of her door on a pair of heels that some might have called rather a stretch more sensuous than sensible, the blue eyed beauty glided gracefully across the ground, and as she did so she hummed softly to herself as she deposited one form of outerwear upon a shiny metal peg and exchanged it for another one. Another day, another discovery~? That soft and incoherent little note that the girl carried with her continuing as she returned to her desk and remembered that the warmth she had arrived to the building to would probably be enough to see her home without issue, while Sophie certainly was the type who would bring her coat along with her just in case of a sudden change or downpour for the moment she was happy to move on pastel blue dress that was decorated by polka-dot holes all the way across it, and picked up her purse before heading out to see what the rest of her day had in store. However, considering her usual school night tended to consist of heading home for takeaway and a chance to ‘relax’ by reading through some fresh papers and journals by her academic peers, one could hardly say she was living the high life right now, but she was enjoying herself so who cares, really? A few more matches, huh? Plucking her phone from her bag and noting the fact that those sharp and high heels clicked on the ground with an increased sense of clarity now that the building was so very empty and quiet, after enjoying that steady and serene beat of her feet the foreign fox pushed the thick rimmed glasses she was wearing up a little bit higher and looked at the screen of the tiny little computer she had pulled into her hand, and honestly felt mixed feelings about what she saw waiting for her. Let’s see what we have, I guess…? About a dozen fresh faces seeming to be waiting thanks to the app that was so well known for turning sparks into flames of passion, as the young woman pulled up the mugshots of guys and girls who had seemed to see fit to motion right when they had seen the picture on her profile she couldn’t help but feel just a hint of dissatisfaction at dealing with her ‘pursuits’ in this manner, which honestly felt weird to her really. Hmmmmm… Maybe? Always a fan of efficiency and this method of physical chemistry perfect for creating the frivolous connections she liked to indulge, maybe it had been the hard work lately that had forced her away from human contact but for some reason she needed a bit more stimulation than the obvious. Definitely not… Sure, hopping into bed with a hunk or hottie was fun enough but honestly it feeling like she missed that thrill of the chase as it were, even though she wasn’t really looking to settle down the blonde beauty felt like she had fallen into something of a rut recently, and while it seemed her demands were being met on paper she couldn’t help but feel like she wanted a little more than what she was getting. Probably…? I just don’t feel like I know anymore? She wanted that excitement, that thrill of finding someone who might just create a little spark in her mind as well as her loins, but recently that had seemed in such short supply…

Business and politics. No one needed to know the real reason he stepped down, but to those that watched the man in tears, not over the body of a former hero, but his daughter, did a few understand. Rumors had spread, but only within the small circle. The bits of information sprinkled around the company. Rumors rarely lived long when the truth lingered just around the corner. The Corporation was good in that regard. There was rarely a scandal, if at all. He left the office, his fingers tracing the frame of what used to be his wooden desk. A collection piece, passed to the new man in his position, a man that at home, still served his former job, as his butler. Hain was a good man, as was Kasey in that regards. People true to their roles, themselves, even when they no longer needed to. There was no sense to please the public, it was what they did in private, along with many other things hidden behind the doors of the Ketsujo estate. There was rarely a scandal, yet the cameras waited for something to report. The man's dark gray suit, and the open collar black shirt under, remained the darkest color in the room. As he left, he shut the door behind him, the lights turning off. Hain Musei. His name now replaced where his own used to be. He allowed it. Sato didn't want to be there any more, but even so, he missed it. It missed being around. His touch light, as he tried to avoid touching more than needed. The bandages covered his palms, exposing his knuckles. His neck bandaged the same, with the bits that lay on his cheek. He had avoided coming during the day, only appearing in the afternoon for the few people who still needed help. The silver haired pair were good at business, but Sato was still the expert. His advice, still went miles. And with his work, there was rarely a scandal. The sound of his shoes echoed in the empty stairways. The long walk as he descended from his former office, back down to the lobby. He had stayed enough to see what he wanted. The few people still worked within the wards and he would do his best to avoid them. There was only the night staff that remained, and he would see to it they would do their job without his eyes. A smile lingered on his face as he made his way out, only to stop and slow as he took the bits of change from inside his coat. They would slip into the machine as he pressed the buttons for another favored canned coffee. The woman behind the counter, offering a smile, and he could see the question starting. "I'm fine, really, " A nervous smile, the bits of reddened, irritated flesh peeking out from past the edges to anyone that looked hard enough. The woman smiled, another question. "You sure? You're still free to rewrap your bandages.""No really," he pleaded again, trying to avoid the topic, yet the conversation was more than he could have hoped for. "I should be going. I'm fine really." He would bow before making his way outside. The sound of his shoes filling the slow and rather empty hospital as he made his exit. He would take a moment to enjoy the peace of the dark night, the silence, the freedom of night. He wanted to enjoy it, but the pain of loneliness was the only reason he had come there. There was rarely a scandal, except for the reason, he was still a married man. ~ 611 ~

The sublimely sinful seduction of science~
❝ It’s been a while, I need to make my mind- Still highly focused on the item in her hand as she breezed through the hospital with her focus completely distracted, Sophie was far too engrossed in the diversion that was the matter of her future entanglements to really notice the sound of voices or the feminine figure of the conversation, and instead pressed on with nary a care in the world beside the task of selecting a fresh set of possibilities to enjoy herself with. That inattentiveness why she would quickly give a rather uncharacteristic show of rudeness as she proceeded, the casually paced melancholy of the man was highly contrasted by our lady lead’s ditzy distraction and was bound to lead the latter into chaos is she was not careful, and right now she was the farthest thing from that really. “U-Ufff!” That sapphire-like stare locked so securely upon the screen in front of Miss Sequoia that by the time she realized she was about to collide with something or someone it was already far too late for her to do anything about it, as she gave a grunt of surprise to have hit something she never seemed to anticipate one might have warned the blonde about the pitfalls of stepping so speedily their eyes glued to a phone, but right now she didn’t have time for it. Right now she was too busy stumbling and fumbling around as the result of an unexpected impact, and trying to keep all of the items she was carrying in her hands, whilst also maintaining the presence of secure footing beneath her. It was quite the balancing act, and one that she did not entirely manage. Perhaps the primary purpose of not toppling over made that little bit more difficult by the prominent set of peaks that acted as her heels but Sophie managing to secure her foothold despite this handicap, with a coat and bag in one hand and her phone in the other the task of capable coordination rapidly shifted from upright stability to gifted grasp, and while the blue eyed beauty could be graceful in many areas it seemed that he elegance failed her here, just a little. Hands seeming to flail clumsily at a smooth and thin item which always seemed far too eager to plummet to the ground than it was to rest snugly in even a hand as soft as this scientific siren’s was, while the bag and coat seemed to cooperate enough with their owner that they stayed safe in her grasp the same could not be said for phone that she snatched for and bungled, and then quite callously dived for the ground. “W-Whew, I’m so sorry, wasn’t looking where I was going at all there, was I…?” Perhaps the good manners of the country of her origin shining through with Miss Sequoia though as she chose to prioritize an apology over a retrieval for the item that had dropped to the ground, having been uncouth enough already as to walk into someone it only stood to reason for this rational girl to offer a word or two of regret at her incompetence, but as she looked toward the figure she had bumped into the foreign femme suddenly found herself frozen in place. “O-Oh, hello…?” Cheeks already feeling just a hint of warmth because of the ungracious introduction she had given the fine figure of a man she had walked into but that factor kicked into overdrive once she focused on the face of the fellow, the bright eyed biologist looked up and catch a dark gaze that send a shiver through her for one reason or another and found her mouth turning dry as well, and while this happened also found every thought in her head rushing away. Well, almost every one, at least…

The sound of opening a fresh soda, or canned drink. Was it freshness? Or was it being the one to crack the seal? It had been there a while, it certainly couldn't be called fresh any longer, but with the sound of the only barrier to keep it from deteriorating, broken, how could it not? Little, foolish thoughts clouded his mind as the drink lifted again to his lips as he looked over the endless night. The caffeine filling his body, and the rush that came with it. It wasn't like he hadn't drank coffee in a long time, had definitely had better blends at home. The possibility of his choices, even if they were poor, were what gave him the bits of freedom he desired. The small moments of- "Shit." His thoughts cut short as something bumped into him, his drink spilling on his shirt. He turned around in response, not mad, but curious to who, or what it could have been. But his eyes didn't follow their face, but the phone that was sent flying. He reached out with his left hand, trying to catch it, only to fumble his attempt. His foot extended, to allow it to at least have a soft landing. From the top of his leather shoes, he at least saved that. A silent sigh as he reached down to fetch the object to hand it over to- "Oh, Sequoia." He said aloud, now seeing who it was. It certainly had been a while. She looked different, was it her hair? He shook the thought, and handed over her phone, the front his his coat and shirt still wet with coffee. "You should, uh, be more careful I suppose." a nervous laugh, a contrast to his normal demeanor. He wasn't a man in charge anymore, he was a lost puppy. ". . . phones are getting more expensive nowadays." His eyes averted from hers, trying to find peace in view of the flowers from under the street lights, maybe one of the few cars still around. The dark spots on the sidewalk from spat gum. He tried to distract himself from anything that wasn't her. He tried to keep his mind occupied. Until he looked at his shirt. Designer clothing always meant the finest material. With it, the upkeep to maintain them. It wasn't worth his time trying to clean it off, and trying to get the stain out to prove more costly than buying a replacement. He reached with his off hand to almost try to dust off his clothing, as if it was mud, or dirt, and not a liquid he was just trying to consume. With caffeine, came energy. And with it, few options to express it. "Oh goddam-... Eh. It was getting old anyways." A sigh would leave his lips, as he would press the sleeves of his coat into the stain, trying to dry off what remained. He knew what he was going to do with it when he got home, but until then, he might as well try to stay dry. ~ 512 ~

The sublimely sinful seduction of science~
❝ Sequoia. If she was honest, the brainy blonde would have to admit that hearing such a name from such a person stung her a little, but she did not know exactly why that was, or at the very least hadn’t realized it. There something so distant about referring to her in such a cool, formal manner that seemed to prickle at the more delicate areas of this ravishing researcher’s sensibilities, she stood there stunned to discover that not only had she committed a rather egregious error in colliding with the big man of the hospital but worse than that she was reminded of the distance between them by the single word he used to greet her as she had done so, and while she could understand an exclamation that was flooded with the fever of fury given what she had done, that innate and effortless coldness sent a chill through her. She didn’t like it, not one bit, but that didn’t stall her response all too much. “M-Mr Sato! I’m so, so sorry!” A piece of her heart seeming to turn to ice when the blue eyed beauty was addressed so formally, though Sophie craved something a bit more familiar from the fellow and as such was steeped in disappointment at that almost dismissive designation that good old Canadian autopilot took over her behaviour, and instead of wallowing in such a defeat she found her form flooded with country manners and warmth despite the shiver that his statement sent through her. “Y-You’re right, I was… In a world of my own. Geez, look at your shirt there?” A pinkness taking root within the cheeks of the academic angel as she looked over her handiwork and glanced down at her phone, while she probably should have scooped it up as her boss pointed it out, she was more concerned with the coffee stain upon his clothing and as a result had quickly plucked a tissue out of her bag to dab at it to try and help the problem. “Nah, I mean I’m sure you can get the stain out with a bit of elbow grease?” This authoritative figure always that little bit intimidating but in an oddly intriguing manner, perhaps because she was used to feeling a bit overwhelmed by his presence for one reason or another and also not always the best at picking up on social cues Sophie didn’t really note the apparent sense of meekness that the tall man showed her, and instead continued on with her task of cleaning him up with fervour for a few seconds more. “I’ve really made a mess of you here, haven’t I?” Almost seeming to get lost in the task of trying to clean this commanding fellow up because of her guilt and perhaps a hint of a desire to avoid his gaze as well, the blonde felt rather guilty for running into a man like this while she was being so absent-minded with a task she honestly felt embarrassed to be performing now, and instead could only glance toward his face in a sudden and uncharacteristic sense of shyness a time or two, before once more her attention was drawn toward the object she had dropped by the sound of a silly little chime and the screen lighting up to show the picture of some would-be hunk having sent her a message. Wow, what a bad time to be shown such eagerness, huh?

Titles. They meant nothing to him. Titles meant nothing to the man, who held the highest one of them all. But now, his own was relinquished, beyond his better judgement. Everyone was a doctor. What was the point of calling someone by a title all had? Was it simple manners, or was there more to the reason to address with such a thing? Was it simply just how the Japanese culture was? To address people with proper honorifics and titles? It was one earned. But in his eyes, he was a king who spoke to his subjects. Was it not a greater honor to address his majesty not as such, but as his name? Was that in itself, not the highest honor one could be given? "It's... Just Sato is fine. It's fine. Really." he tried to wipe it off again, trying to get any and all liquid out. A mess made now, would save for a mess later. It was easier to solve his problem with his clothing, than to pay for repairs to fix a stain in his own car. The bit of tissue that extended to dry him off, he didn't fight it. He just let it happen for a moment. He was so used to others doing things for him that it was a few seconds before. "Oh no no, thank you. I can do it, really." The embarrassment that filled him up as he would try to carefully navigate to take the napkin from her. He would avoid any smaller strange interactions that would further make this reunion even odder. "Yeah, thankfully I still have money to avoid all that hard work." A joke escaped his lips, yet it held truth that coated his own heart in a painful venom. All this was him paying for his mistakes. All of this because he was working with his daddy's money. It wasn't to say he didn't work hard to earn it, but it was still the hard and painful truth. He had began with the handout, it was only right he work just as hard to keep it. And it was only right for him, to extend the same generosity, and not the same pain, to others who weren't as lucky. It was his will. It was what he had to do. To be a better you.The dabbing of his shirt, and the ping from her phone would only make him look away for a moment. He had to stop this game. It wasn't right for her to be serving him like this. He was well enough to take care of himself. Bandages didn't make him weak, even though, deep within, he was greatly broken. He would take them from her, and if it couldn't be done carefully, it would be his own touch laid upon her hands to fetch the napkins. "Please, it's really no big deal." The nervous laughter and the rose in his cheeks as the moment he tried to avoid lingered over them. She was a beautiful woman, who had better things to do that clean up his overpriced shirt. It wasn't even the nicest material. If he was honest, silk was always a pajama material for him, and suits like it always sent him quick to sleep. It was the cheaper cotton blend ones he preferred, but it wasn't a look he wanted to make. He suffered with expensive, hand sewn qualities. All of it to upkeep the appearance of a man who could take care of himself. But did it not also promote the image of a man who spends too much money on himself, when he could pay the same to save lives? It was a delicate dance, all of which he was learning to hate and despise. "Sorry, I..." What was there left to say. No joke would be appropriate. All of it was just another bit of staged laughter directed at his pitiful life. All of the things he did to try and fill the void in his chest with the joys he wish he could have had as a child, now filled with vices and the sickness of an adult who knows just how much money it takes for someone to toss out their values. There was rarely a scandal, except for the man who felt as if he could never be loved. ~ 721 ~

The sublimely sinful seduction of science~
❝ “W-Well if that’s fine then it’s not a big deal to call me Sophie either, right?” The correction that Sato offered to Miss Sequoia seeming like the ideal avenue for her to address that quiet disappointment in the designation she had given him, a small smile spread across her rosy coloured lips as she looked up toward those dark and dashing features, and with a sense of poetic assurance the girl offered her own alteration to what she was called. After all, there was no way he could invite that little bit more intimacy between them without returning it, right? Oh gosh, look at that thing… Unfortunately finding the fellow who found his shirt to be optional something of a distraction from the sense of aplomb Sophie had tried to show and as such pulling herself away from her boss in order to obscure that issue more effectively, the blonde biologist was blushing rather brightly as she stooped down and collected her phone back up, and hoped that she had been quick enough to not draw undue attention to the item as well. I hope he didn’t see it? Not even stopping to check if she had cracked the thing or dented it as she snatched at its shape and then stuffed it into her bag, even though she spent a moment there crouching on her heels to compose herself the fair femme was still rather flustered by both this and the proximity of a man she may or may not have been nursing a bit of a crush on, and as such took more than a few seconds to right herself. However, even if it was hard, she still felt like she had to intervene in this. “W-Well, no offense, but you seem kinda hands on for a guy who supposedly avoids hard work?” It seeming like Sato was not his usual commanding self and almost appearing like he was feeling sorry for himself or something, even though Miss Sequoia did not know him all that well she could sense from the difference between his demeanour and what she expected from him that something seemed to be bothering her boss, and as such took it as her responsibility to show a little interest in him. And not just because he had that hot, older guy kinda charm, which was only being intensified by this tortured state of his. “I mean most people in your position would probably just let the checks roll in, right?” Shaking her head with a firm sense of disagreement as he seemed to dismiss himself and then wandering over to the nearest receptacle to dispose of the tissue she had been trying to clean him up with, while it had seemed a fruitless effort to get rid of the strain Sophie felt like she owed the man something, and not just for the error she had just made. “Plus, I’m sure programs like mine wouldn’t even exist without your backing, and interest?” This tall and terrific figure an inspiration to her, while their relationship hadn’t ever been close enough to be true mentorship he had shown a sense of interest and trust in her that had been quite encouraging when she had been a bit brighter eyed and bushier tailed young woman trying to make her mark in a foreign land, and it had left an impact on her, and a feeling that she couldn’t just abandon him when he seemed so, well, sad. “Oh come on, it was my mistake so the least I can do is make up for it, right?” Seeming to perk up a little bit because of the fact that she suddenly felt like this dashing director needed her and that sensation seeming to melt away at least some of the fatigue that she felt, Miss Sequoia took her own turn to be a little dismissive of what he said, and objected to the notion of leaving him alone until she had paid back at least one of the debts she owed. And she had just the idea how as well. “And even if I can’t clean your shirt up, I could always buy you a new drink or something, right? I know a good coffee place nearby~” Shaking her head a little as she eyed the stain and then looking to the cup on the floor before nodding over her shoulder, it felt to the ravishing researcher like Sato could use a friend or something of the sort, and eager beaver that she was she was happy to assume such a role. After all, they had hardly ever had the chance to get to know one another outside of a work setting, and really this felt like the perfect opportunity to correct that, kind of like solving two theories with a single sample…

Well, she had a point. It was pretty much a first name basis. They did mostly know each other, right? There was no harm in a name. The act itself was inviting, strange, but not that foreign. It almost begged him to know more about her, his lingering questions would have to subside for another time. For now, it was the concern of getting home. His eye diverted again, trying not to make something like a simple interaction become a meeting with Human Resources. There was rarely a scandal, for now he actively avoided them. "The paperwork is what I avoid." he would admit. "That's what assistants are for. I tend to the patient, my nurse writes down what is needed for later." It was the truth, mostly. At least, the last time he treated a patient. It had been some odd years since he had cared for anyone professionally, beyond his own offspring. The small thought of Sashi sending Sato into a small loop as his mind played her moments over and over. The soulless void, and empty stare as he envisioned her, for a moment, before returning to his place in the present. "Plus, benefits of being the boss I suppose." A subtle brag, or a snarky remark. It would be hard to tell, hard to say, and hard to figure out. Even from Sato himself. "It's the Ketsujo way." he would speak with a sigh, his hand lifted, as if to highlight each word. "As they say, A better you. Every step forward, is a win if its shoes you own." It didn't matter what projects he funded, or how many failed. All that mattered was when they succeeded. A win for them, was a win for him. A win for him, meant more money. More money, meant more investments. Even though they may have the populations health in mind, they were always a bank and financial institution at its core. With her suggestion, he would turn around for a glance for any sign. "Well," he would turn back around. A smile on his face. "Only if you promise that the place isn't too busy. I'd rather not have my photo taken with these bandages, and this... coffee." he would look down at his shirt. A nod of his head. "There's no harm in a small bit of conversation over some pastries and a caffeinated beverage." He would laugh, only to mumble to himself. "Where is my damn driver?"~ 405 ~

The sublimely sinful seduction of science~
❝ “Well, who doesn’t hate paperwork, huh~? It’s the worst!” Shrugging softly as the man voiced a rather commonly held dislike for excessive processes of administration, Sophie didn’t exactly have the mannerisms of the dashing fellow down enough to note that maybe his mind was on something else for a moment, and as such tried to address the ill feeling that she sensed in the man with a simple honest attitude and personal pep. “I’d definitely toss it off if I thought I could get away with it~” Perhaps even being a bit too frank with her senior as she waved her hand and tried to make him feel better about the issues in his job that seemed to annoy him, the blonde tried to remain bright as a beacon in the face of that sombre shadow in which it seemed that this semi-stranger was trapped in, and felt as if she could help him to see and step into the light then she would be doing a mighty fine thing really. “Heheheheh, I suppose you’re right there~?” Next finding herself chuckling softly and only half because of nervousness really as Sato seemed to make a joke about footwear, or at least that was what she assumed he was doing, Miss Sequoia giggled and lifted an overturned finger to her lips to a moment as she enjoyed what she assumed was an attempt at humour, and found it cast him in a slightly different light as a result. “I mean a man with your kind of money probably has at least one shoe store somewhere, right~?” Serious so often that he almost seemed like the perpetually stern sort, as the blue eyed biologist lifted that digit next to slide her glasses back up she smiled and swayed slightly from one side to the other, acting a little girlishly as she tried to draw his attention away from what troubled him and toward her pretty self instead. “Oh, well it’s not usually too busy, or at least not at this time of night? It’s nice and quiet, I like to head there to unwind after a big day sometimes~?” Absolutely delighted when he seemed to also agree to her suggestion that the two of them head for something brewed from beans to refresh themselves and also repay the loss that had been inflicted as well, though her commanding companion seemed to hold some reservations about the state he was in and Sophie certainly felt a curiosity about the bandages he was wearing, a little tug of something close to selfishness made her lean into the idea more heavily than usual. “But anyway, if you’re really worried you can borrow my coat if you want~? I bet you’d look lovely in it~” This her first chance to spend some time with a man with whom she had always been intrigued by, upon reflection she would probably have called herself a liar if she didn’t also sense a chance to indulge the hint of attraction she felt toward him, and as such she was pulling out all the stops to ensure his attendance. Even if some of them were a bit playful, and aimed to make him smirk. “Ah, and some pastries too, huh~? Well go on, since it’s you~” Even happier still when it seemed as if Sato’s response also afforded her the chance to insert a subtle sense of flirtation into their conversation as well, Miss Sequoia glanced over her shoulder as he expressed his desire for something more than just a simple drink, and smiled as she eagerly used the chance to assert a little more friendliness into the conversation as she teased him. “I just hope we don’t start people talking about us, eh~?” All the while the pace of her pulse seeming to pick up because she simply felt thrilled to finally feel like he was starting to notice and engage her in a way she had longed him to for what felt like forever, the bubbly blonde beamed as she led her boss toward the café she thought of and injected a slight spring and even more sway into her step as she did so, and found she was suddenly rather enjoying the way her heels were rapping on the ground like a drumbeat…

If any human being truly enjoyed forms and paperwork and the little bits of filing, he was sure they would be insane. It was a reasonable thing to dislike. That being said, he had always paid his employees well, and as such never really felt bad about pushing the work onto others. He knew they probably did not enjoy that aspect of the job, but when you get paid more than enough, could you really complain? It could be worse. It always could be worse. People more than likely shared his view on the matter, and as such, rarely thought much of it. It was just something that came with the job. Everything had to be organized. Everyone one in the end. All of his investments were mutual. People were able to do things without the risk of a financial loss, and could operate freely. In the end, their winnings were his winnings. They could not win or lose. Ketsujo was the only one that did any gambling when it came to that science. "A hand in every cookie jar." he would say with a shy smile. Even though it was all information he had shared before, right now it just felt odd to talk about. You could tell the world about your hobbies, but once your told your family, it always seemed to be a different tale. Why did it feel so different to say the same things to her? He would look at her own coat, before judging his own appearance. It probably didn't go that deep. His coat was mostly unscathed, but the same could not be said about his shirt. "Maybe another time." He would say, taking a step away from the hospital, only to unbutton the few pieces that held the coat to itself, freeing his shirt as they would begin their journey. "That's normally something done at home, not in the street." A smile across his lips until he had really processed what he had said to her. He blinked a few times, trying to put is quickly behind him. "Eh, let them." he would say aloud. "There's nothing they could say that could do anything to me now." A smile of hope, only to fade away as quick as it has risen. "Or well, I guess for your sake it would maybe be a bad thing." he weighed the options. None of them seemed to be in his favor. "I didn't mean it like... I just meant that since..." He rubbed the backs of his arms as he shuffled forward, trying to avoid any more strange interactions. It had been a while since he talked to anyone comfortably. "Sorry, I'm just in a really weird place right now. Haha." The quirkless business owner. Father to the formerly known Hero, Darkshine. Her body turned to ashes, reduced to dust as he saw fit. They were not a family that buried an entire body, everything was sealed in urns, in their tomb. "Sorry." he would say again, bowing to the woman for forgiveness of the few foolish things that escaped his lips. ~ 510 ~

The sublimely sinful seduction of science~
❝ “Oh reeeeally~? Heeheeheeheehee~” Once again finding herself grinning and giggling at the accidental humour of her acquaintance, Sophie still didn’t know whether or not these rash acts of comedy were entirely planned or simply just slipping out in an off the cuff fashion but regardless of the intent behind what her companion was saying, she couldn’t help but feel delighted by both the new side of him it seemed to reveal and the spice inherent in this subject as well. “Sounds pretty fun, I can picture you in all sorts of things~” If nothing else that little dip into the realm of queerness enough to allow her to feel that bit more comfortable around him and able to project her flirty side that bit better, honestly she had been keeping that under check since he had usually seemed so serious and she didn’t wish to offend some stern sensibility, so she was glad to have this moment to relax. “Hahahahahaha, I don’t like to let the gossip get me down? If I did, w-well, you probably saw what was on my phone, right~?” It seeming that her own little joke was maybe something of a misfire a moment later, while at first it seemed that Sato was amused enough to go along with it and even seemed to show a rare but lovely looking smile, the fact that it went away so quickly worried Miss Sequoia and prompted her to take a step closer to him as she explained that she wasn’t one to spend much time worrying about what others might find on the grapevine. “In fact, I’d probably consider it a bit of a privilege to be the subject of a little rumour or two with a man like you?” Shaking her head and looking into those deep and dark eyes with her own brilliant blue irises as she tried to reassure the man that he had nothing to worry about when it came to her, she tilted her head and smirked as she teased the possibility of setting some loose little tale in motion even just for their common amusement, and after pausing in the street she moved her hand to try and rest it on his arm as she hoped her tender and warm touch might offer an ounce of comfort to this disquieted soul. “Oh really, there’s no need to apologize? We all have bad days… bad weeks, maybe longer?” The subject of his sorrow seeming to be one which occupied both their minds, Sophie’s heart throbbed with sympathy as Mr tall, dark and handsome once again showed the torture within him and attempted to seek her forgiveness for it, as he did so the brainy blonde shook her head and dismissed not only his attempt but also the requirement for it, but also knew that this was a good chance to try and probe at the issues that seemed to be bothering him. “But um… Well, if I’m honest I had noticed that you’d seemed a bit distracted?” Sighing softly and skirting he delicate digits down his limb and wanting to tenderly squeeze his hand if she could, once again the gaze of the golden haired girl searched for whatever was behind his own, and she confessed the fact that she could sense some of his pain as she did so. “Are you OK?” Simple compassion seeming to readily overrule any part of the crush that Miss Sequoia had been nursing for the man and her focus shifting quickly to his wellbeing, the sapphire stare of the siren was laced with a sense of pleading pity as she addressed his suffering directly and informally, all whilst ignoring the inherent distance between their stations as she did so. “Do you want to talk about something?” Feeling that a man in a position like Sato probably had few people he could really talk to about what bothered him, those in positions of power tended to avoid projecting anything into the world which might make them feel weak or vulnerable, men especially, but that was always the worst kind of double edged sword in her opinion. “It’s OK if you don’t, of course, but… I’m here for you, if you do, OK? No matter what's bothering you, I'll listen and try to help? No judgement.” More than familiar with how distant people of influence and wealth could become because of the connection with her dear old dad, even though he had never really been much of a problem in her life Sophie knew that they had never really seemed to cultivate much of a close and intimate connection with him, and she regretted that, and perhaps in a way wanted to make sure she did everything to avoid ignoring a similar situation here. Sure, she had no right to assume she could make her way past the walls he had up, but at the same time she didn’t want to leave him to his pain if she could do at least one small something about it?

He was used to stating things as-matter-of-fact. It wasn't so much his personality, but just a habit with the people he was surrounded by. They were people who hated long over explanations of things. Simple comparisons, and simpler methods to get the point across. It was nice, freeing almost to speak as he wanted, without having to worry if the other party was grasping what he was putting down. He enjoyed this, he really enjoyed her company. Though, the next bit of words did confuse him at first. He couldn't put his finger on it. All sorts of things? What was she envisioning? Wasn't the line to picture him in less not other? No, that wasn't right, was it? Maybe he was mistaken. That was until she mentioned what was on her phone. "Oh god." His mind begun to linger on his past. Fear overtook him. What was on her phone? Was it something he should have looked at. What did she see? Was this all a joke about him? Was he the subject of ridicule? No, there was no way she had those photos. They were far too old. It was just one party. It was for his daughter. It was for her birthday. There's nothing embarrassing about a father dressing up as a movie character for his daughters birthday, even if the suit was just a little too small. Right? No one had those photos. They were gone. Taken care of. yet the panic still remained. All he could muster was a simple, ". . . What?"He pushed the thought away, the cold sweat beginning to emit from his forehead, up until her touch, to which he instinctively offered his arm to hook around her own, if she wanted such. It was there for her to choose. He wasn't going to force his hand, but the act itself would be rude to decline. Perhaps it was him forcing his hand after all. She was concerned for him, that alone made him smile. But he remained silent. It wasn't something to burden another with, especially not one with such a pretty face. "Talking about it rarely does any good. I know that I've had little time to grieve and accept it. Probably the reason I'm still hanging around, even after stepping down." It was more than he wanted to admit to, yet it felt strangely uplifting to get it off his chest. He wondered if shedding more of this, would ease his own burden, but would it end up weighing the woman down? Would would carry the weight, if he was the one unloading it? "Well," his options carefully weighed and balanced. It wasn't like it could harm him anymore. He was a man with almost nothing to lose. Nothing else than his own life. "The silence of my own home, had grown deafening. I've filled it with maids and servants. I don't expect you to relate to that, just rich kid things I suppose." he would explain, all the while on their walk there, while there was few people around to overhear. Now was better than later. "You begin to redefine what a family is. With it, your values change. When I lost . . ." he tripped over the words, closing his eyes, and forcing himself to call out her name. "When I lost Sashi, I thought it was over. But it wasn't. The world moved on, and I stayed still. If I remained stagnant, the corporation would fail its people, so I stepped away. To give a moment to myself I suppose." He sighed, scoffing after. A nod as he looked over to the woman. "Sorry, it's a lot more than you probably asked for. Life's a hard thing." He smiled, "but somethings are harder."Somethings? Oh. Oh.~ 620 ~

The sublimely sinful seduction of science~
❝ “Oh jeez, looks like I’ve really thrown myself under the bus here, and with my boss no less?” The red tinge returning to the face of the fair femme when it seemed that she had tipped her hand way more than she really needed to, Sophie shook her head with her cheeks a-blazing as she realized that she had unintentionally let the cat out of the bag or at least half of it, and as she saw the confusion on the face of the fellow before her she took a deep breath as she opted to let the issue lie by giving a full confession. “I was uhm, looking at guys on Tinder…?” Suddenly feeling like she needed to avert her gaze as she admitted exactly what the man had missed when he had been chivalrous enough to not let a prying set of eyes dig into the screen she had shown earlier, the scientific siren felt her heart racing as she confessed the fact that her distraction and the collision between them had been a direct result of her overflowing desire for companionship, and yet at the same time she felt a small thrill at telling him all the same. In a way she kind of wanted him to know she wasn’t as much of a ‘good girl’ as most seemed to assume of her. He’s had a pretty rough time, hasn’t he? Accepting of the gesture as Sato lifted his hand to greet her own, in all honesty Miss Sequoia found the hint of warmth that he showed to her a little surprising given that stern image he tended to maintain, and yet welcomed it all the same as she quietly let him talk. And god, did her heart throb once he did. I can’t imagine what it’s like losing a child…? Sympathetic toward the man from the start but the pain that she felt only seeming to increase more than a hundred times over when her companion began to speak of what was really bothering him, the blonde beauty felt a sense of agony seize her heat as she nodded to encourage him and let him know she was listening, but by the time that he had finished speaking there was only one impulse that the scientific siren could show in response. “I’m so, so sorry…” Perhaps displaying her own peculiarity as she lurched forwards and snatched at his form in a sudden show of sadness and emotion focused into the form of an embrace, some who knew Sophie might have seen as her as some kind of oddity who was wholly focused with her work and while that was often the case, that didn’t mean she wasn’t wholly in touch with her emotions at all. “That must feel so awful…?” Distanced from some but not a robot, she was the sort who tended to wear her heat on her sleeve and because of that she couldn’t help but lunge for the tortured soul before him and want to make him feel better in any way she could, even if part of that meant unintentionally highlighting her fine feminine frame as she pressed herself against him. “Gosh, I can’t even begin to imagine what it’s like to lose someone, a child no less…” Shaking her head and then lifting a hand up to rest on Sato’s cheek in a simple display of human warmth and empathy, while the act of doing so only further highlighted the strange burns he had underneath the bizarre number of bandages he was burdened with, for the moment the young woman was far more concerned with the wounds within him than those that seemed to have wrought havoc externally. “And then having to… Because of your obligations? Jeeez…” Not even sure exactly what she could do to help him as she looked into those dark eyes whilst the buds of tears formed within her own, the brow of the blonde ruffled as she tried to comprehend and conquer the sheer level of distress that this dashing figure found himself dealing with, and as such was so possessed by this spirit of empathy that she had no room to really recognise the unintentional innuendo he had unleashed upon her. “I wish there was something I could do, to take that feeling away…?” Instead just wanting to help him feel better, Miss Sequoia could only let herself linger there with her arms around him and hope that in some small way she was helping, even if she didn’t really know what she was doing…

Oh, one of those dating apps? you like met people on them right? Well, that was how the villain chat worked. Why would someone else not make something similar for other means? That was normal. "Oh. Okay. No yeah, that totally makes way more sense." His mind skipped over it rather quickly, not lingering on the matter. People did as they pleased. He just happened to be the one to catch her before someone else could scoop her up. Be it a short night spent for a single time, or something that would blossom into something more fruitful, would be unknown. All that mattered, was now, was his chance. Maybe he would screw it up. Maybe he wouldn't. But right now, all he wanted to do, was be honest to himself. He was owed that much. Her hand reached out to his own, rather than to interlock their arms. A unexpected change, but a welcomed one. His face the same color as he was born with, as the rose color was washed away. The bit of nervousness subsided as he sought to enjoy what time he did have. There was the weight of worlds on his soul. A thousand lifespans he would suffer during a single breath. All of them, weighed him, but his own sins would have to be taken to the grave. For now, he would grieve his kin, and the wife that never loved him. At her touch, he slowed his pace, his face growing warm as he took in the moment. He didn't want to think about it anymore. He just wanted to enjoy the moment. The moment. The moment. Moment. That was the name of that disgusting creature. Setsuna. Yet, in just a few seconds, he understood how beautiful a moment could be. It only took a moment to change a life. It only took a moment to cleanse your soul. It only took a moment to make a difference. A moment. A moment was all he needed. "Well, I can say," the woman's grasp around him, was more than comforting, but to him, it was foreign and strange. A thing he could not yet process as niceties. "I do appreciate your company. You've done more for me just in this moment, than a lot of others have done since met." A smile, and as her arms around him, he would wrap his own around her. A brief hug, just to show his gratitude. But it would be a lie to say he didn't wish for their lips to meet. ~ 418 ~

The sublimely sinful seduction of science~
❝ “M-Mr Sato…” Slow words speaking out of habit as she caught the dark eyes of the man who he held onto, even though Miss Sequoia had only embraced her boss in order to offer him some simple human contact and comfort given the ordeal he was going through, now that she was there looking into that gaze so closely she felt temptations to indulge other impulses. If only I could… For just a moment…? Eyelids growing heavier by the second and the tip of her velvety tongue doing a licking lap around her lips to moisten them on instinct, her own blue irises would drift down to the mouth of the man as she felt her pulse grow faster and more intense, like her very heartbeat was telling her to do it, to go for what she wanted and not hold back no matter their circumstance. But she couldn’t, not like this. “W-Whew…” The breath of the blonde seeming to feel red hot suddenly or her throat was now bone dry, though felt like the thirst she felt could be quenched by the sweet kiss she might be able to share with this stunning figure she was clinging to, rather than do that the young biologist opted to slam on her breaks and show some self-control, and sighed as she tried to collect her mind and remember what had been going on before she had been bewitched by the moment. What did I nearly let myself do there…? Got so caught up… Tremoring with a blend of excitement and exhilaration but also a sense of anxiety as her feelings threatened to overwhelm her, after a matter of simple seconds the scientific siren seemed to break the spell she had been caught up in and shake her head with her cheeks glowing brightly as she realized that she had very nearly done something rather rash, and yet even as she blushed Sophie felt glad for the restraint she had shown. He was her boss, after all, and a married man right? That wasn’t going to end well. “There’s… It’s no big deal, really?” Sighing again and stumbling over her words as she released her grasp and stepped away from Sato with a slight sense of reluctance, though the mind of Miss Sequoia remained a little bit dizzied by the effect that the man had on her she stepped once and then twice to try and fully rend her thoughts and her fantasies away from what might have happened if she had surrendered herself to her passion, and instead did what she could to better focus on the problems of the man without feeling like she was taking advantage of them. “I-I mean, isn’t this kind of thing natural for how someone should act when they find someone in pain?” Turning around and wrapping her arms around herself a little as the night air seemed to suddenly feel so much chillier without the warmth they had shared for a moment there, the blue eyed beauty glanced over her shoulder as her cheeks continued to blaze because of the reproach she gave herself mentally for the misdeed she had almost committed, but despite the sense of embarrassment she felt toward herself the sympathy she felt toward this man had not changed one little bit. “It makes me feel a bit sad to know that no one has done this for you before…?” Turning back to him with sorrow clear in her gaze and crystal-like droplets of tears clinging to the corners of her eyes, her insides churned with a mix of regret and if she was honest rage as well, partly at herself but mostly at the people who were supposed to be looking after this pitiable figure. “N-No wonder you wanted to get away from that world…” Shaking her head as her heart throbbed and those feelings seemed to turn and twist, seemed to blend and separate within her, Sophie shivered again as her empathy let her feel what it was probably like to live in a place that seemed as lacking for warmth as he did, and honestly wanted to offer some of her own. She just didn’t trust herself, right now, as to the real reason behind that…
