SO YOU CAN WEATHER ANY STORM WITH HIGH SCHOOL ENTRANCE EXAMS nearly finished, it was safe to say that Kenji’s final year of junior high was winding-down. Prayerfully, he was waiting to hear from U.A. regarding his acceptance. Since he’d returned to school and was even doing his work, the Orochi Orphanage had returned his handheld gaming system to him. And, thanks to the generous donation of some anonymous benefactor, Kenji had even acquired his very own, brand new skateboard! Cool, right?
The teen had every intention of whiling away the hours by practicing his skateboarding techniques. (He was, admittedly, rusty-- but months without a functioning board could do that!) But then, Mosa called him. He and Mosa had been talking a bunch. Knowing the man to be a preacher and a therapist made the boy doubly suspicious of the man’s interest in him-- was Mosa trying to convert him? Or perhaps psychoanalyze him? Mosa was nice enough, so the child was willing to overlook it.
Anyways, Mosa called-- and he invited Kenji to the Sports Fest, of all things. Wow! The Sports Fest! What a fantastic opportunity. Last year Kenji had watched the Sports Fest with rapt intrigue on his foster mom’s television, with an almost fanatic dedication. While all of the students had such wild displays of power, the mutants had been his favorite. They were the. Coolest. Ever.
Days transpired between the invite and the day of the Sports Fest proper. Kenji was practically reverberating with anticipation when the preacher had stopped to retrieve him. And the energy didn’t dispel for the duration of the ride. He was practically bouncing out of his seat as they rolled up to U.A., all decked-out with banners and balloons and the like.
“This is way, way better than when I came for the tour!” Kenji proclaimed, unable to contain himself. It was very rare for the usually churlish teen to be so giddy, but he’d gotten away from himself. Kenji turned to Mosa, straining against his seatbelt, “What do we want to do first?”

It was one of those weird opportunities that showed itself from time to time. Sports festival had always been something Mosa had associated as a little bit too rough for Kasumi to watch. That and who knows what sort of violent tendencies it could teach her. Comparatively, someone who definitely would enjoy this sort of thing, was teenagers, especially those who wanted to be heroes. And in atleast the teenager department, he knew one specific person, who he thought would need encouragement of this kind. And since he would need to be there to oversee the event anyway... conclusion was clear.
Overall, the situation with Kenji had been interesting. These meetings, that had happened every now and then, had allowed Mosa to peek into Kenjis life more clearly. Of course, there was the risk that instead of helping the boy, he was making him more awkward. As much experience as working with the students had given him, Kenji in particular was in a very different position compared to any other student he had known until now. Most of the time he had been about as away pushing as ever, almost like he didn't want Mosas pity. A problematic thing to say the least. And that was something that he wanted to fix the most. But he wasn't sure how. last time he was able to do it with someone like him... it had been a very drastic measure.
And Mosa had not exactly been sure how to ask it from the boy himself...
However, the trip had pretty much immediately shown a new side of Kenji, that Mosa had not seen before. He was actually excited. Outright vibrating in anticipation for the whole ride, and as they arrived, it was even more so evident, that taking him with him had been a good idea. The boy was jumping about as high as Kasumi did when getting ice cream. Albeit, the event was of a little bit bigger variety. Mosa however, kept the pride in himself, and tried to stay stoic, as to not make the boy not feel awkward about him getting too excited.
"Well, quite a few of the clubs have stands here... there is the cooking club, may as well save that for refueling... there is sports club, can try all sorts of sports there, and there is also the robotics club. Although to my knowledge they do other things there as well." The variety in possible activities was immense for such an event. "That and there are the foreign students to meet from Australia and brazil... that could be interesting." He checked the seat numbers. And his watch. "That and we have plenty of time before the tourney starts. I assume you are the most excited for that?" Those fights tended to be the most like cartoons after all. Full of action...
Mosa swiftly changed the topic. "You mentioned a tour? I should have known you would be interested in visiting this place earlier... How did that go?"

SO YOU CAN WEATHER ANY STORM FOR AS EXUBERANT AS KENJI was in the moment, Mosa was ever the cool cucumber, casually explaining that every club would be hosting a stand. A Cooking Club, a Sports Club, a Robotics Club… and most importantly, the tourney.
“I’m excited for all of it, but especially the tourney, yeah!” the boy avowed, “It’s not every day you get to see someone kicking as—kicking butt with their Quirk!”
Kenji made a few cartoonish karate chops at the air, as if demonstrating how someone would kick butt with their quirk. Through his visits with Mosa, and the periodic visits from Kasumi, Kenji was learning to choose his words a little more carefully. He slipped-up sometimes, particularly when he was this excited, but he was making a genuine effort to not cuss around Mosa, even if Kasumi wasn’t there. He really was trying.
He also tried to be cool about the whole thing. It was just a festival. Plenty of schools held them. But… he couldn’t help it!!
Mosa redirected the conversation as they continued to patrol the parking lot for a spot, inquiring about the tour. It had been Mosa’s idea to meet with Tsuchiya for a tour in the first place… so he was partly to thank for enabling Kenji to get there in the first place.
“It was good,” Kenji answered sincerely, managing to sit still in his seat for just a moment, “Tsuchiya-san showed me all over campus. The classrooms, the gym—I liked the gym the best—“
Of course he liked the gym the best.
“I applied to go here,” he confessed. Had he told Mosa that, yet? He probably had. But maybe he hadn’t, “I uh… think it’d be good for me? Maybe it could, uh… keep me out of trouble.”
Kenji chuckled, as if he’d been caught in the act of causing the trouble of which he spoke. Both Mosa and he were well-acquainted with his penchant for mischief.
“That’s what Utari-san said, anyways,” Kenji went-on, “They said it would give me an… outlet?”
Though if anyone was being real with themselves, simply attending a hero school wouldn’t be enough to quell Kenji’s hell-raising ways. It would take so much more than that.
The teen spied an open spot between two vehicles, and pointed towards it, “There’s a space!”

Mosas assumptions were right. The boy was just filled with energy the moment the tourney was mentioned, doing all these moves of his own. That and aside from a slight raise of an eyebrow, the boy had avoided swearing. That was nice. The boy had learned a lot in his minor visits about things, and with his energy this high, it was almost like he had taken in the sun into a battery, and filled himself to the brim. Truely a new person entirely. Him just talking about sports, and how he liked gym... It almost made Mosa feel a little bit bad that he himself was in sort of a bad state physically. "I apologize, that I am not exactly a sporty person." He scratched his chin. He mostly said it in jest. "I do need to start working out somehow..." Who knows, maybe the boy could get him into it...
However... something he didn't know in advance, was that the boy had already applied to the school. "You did?" There was a clear tone of confusion. "I uh, hope that the application process didn't cause you trouble?" Of course. Sports, all that quirky business during their first meeting... the boy clearly was someone who had an interest in using their powers for something. "I could have helped you with it, since I do work here, after all." At this point, he was just embarrassed he had not noticed it sooner. The boys need to explain just felt silly. "I mean, if that is what you want to do, you should do it. After all, that is your own choice. No better way to do good, atleast in my opinion..."
Apparently Utari had told him that it would be helpful to him. Gosh, Mosa felt a little bit unhelpful. Had he really missed this for so long? "An outlet for Quirk usage, certainly. You would be able to do all of the things you wanted here as part of your training." He could have even offered him the option of it back when they had first met... How much had that discussion helped him? It was before his foster father had gone away... Mosa was having a real hard time keeping his stoic appearance going.
And hearing the call to stop, made him outright flinch! "Ah, yes! Thank you!" With that he parked, and hit the brakes... it was a very awkward parking, but hey, atleast he didn't bump into anything. This certainly wasn't helping at all. "Have you decided, what you would like to go check out first?" An honest question.

SO YOU CAN WEATHER ANY STORM KENJI ARCHED A BROW AT MOSA'S APOLOGY, his confusion clear.
“That’s okay,” he assured Mosa, “I’m not really sporty either. I mean, I skateboard and climb things, but like… I don’t play sports. And I lose most of the fights I get into.”
Kenji rubbed the back of his head bashfully, and rubbed the stitches leftover from his fight with Daisuke. He couldn’t keep his dumb mouth shut, and he couldn’t put his money where his mouth was.
He continued to watch Mosa as the man reacted to Kenji’s announcements, the child’s confusion clear. Was it so strange that he had applied to go to U.A.? No, it wasn’t that-- he wanted to help? The teen’s expression pinched. Was that something that normal parents did with their kids? Helped them with their apps? Utari-san had helped Kenji some, quite a bit actually, but… why did Mosa care?
The teen unbuckled his seatbelt, and roused himself from the car once it was shut-off. He straightened his shirt and his cargo shorts, and trotted around the back to wait for Mosa, bouncing on the balls of his feet.
“Food maybe?” the boy chirped, “Or I dunno. Let’s see what they have.”
He didn’t know what to expect, having never been to a high school festival (particularly one of this magnitude).
“Did you go to the sports fest last year?” Kenji asked.
“I watched it on t.v. Some of it anyways.”
He did his best to keep pace with Mosa, but excitement propelled him ahead. As such, Kenji sort of bobbled ahead and then stopped to wait for his chaperone to catch-up.

Mosa poked his glasses up a little, almost like trying to hide the fact that he had been surprised. "Admittedly..." He tried to look as stoic as ever. "I would prefer you not getting into those fights in the first place." He gave off a minor grin. Of course, teens will be teens, but it was his protective nature showing. Besides, if Kenji wanted to be a hero, he would probably be made to learn the proper way to fight... One of mosas hands sank into his own jackets pocket, grasping a book hidden there. He was not exactly into the idea, but... On the other hand, he was at the hero school for a reason.
"Admittedly, I think we can go on for longer without a meal, maybe." He said bluntly, as he tried to keep up with a boy who reminded him more of Kasumi every second with how hype he was getting. "After all, if you are going to study to become a hero, you need to keep an eye on your figure." Atleast his dry wit was still going strong.
Kenjis sudden question did make him raise an eyebrow. He lowered his head a bit almost in shame. "...No. I tried to watch it at home but it just wasn't something I enjoyed at the time." Just the idea of looking at children competing, especially the tourney portion of it made him feel a little bit woozy. "I mean, for the students themselves, they are usually very excited to test their mettle. I myself do not exactly like putting up fists when it comes to that sort of thing." He crossed his hands, which looked a little bit weird in the middle of the crowd. "Not that I had a chance to join this sort of thing when I was your age. I would probably be of different mind if that was the case." Just imagining the energetic adventures of bouncing around, and doing whatever you want with your powers, instead of being ostracized for having them... it was a very utopistic idea back then.
Mosa realized he had probably been a rambling a little. "Don't mind me though. These sort of decisions are up to the person themselves after all. Although..." His hand went onto his chin again. "Maybe that could help us make a decision on what to go check out first..." This was something he was actually pretty good at: Leading things from one thing to the next. He just needed that little inkling of an idea, to paint a proper picture. Not literally of course, he was not exactly an artist, But figuratively. That, and like a proper psychologist, he would be able to get a little bit more info from the boy. "What part of heroism specifically interests you the most? Is it the saving people part? Is it the fighting the bad guys part? Or is it perhaps outwitting someone who deserves it?" Of course there were more options, but spoonfeeding ideas was one of those things he wanted to avoid. It had to be his own suggestion.

SO YOU CAN WEATHER ANY STORM THE TEEN WOULD BASHFULLY RUB the back of his head at Mosa's admission that he'd rather Kenji not fight. Kenji would rather people not pick fights with him! It wasn't like Kenji was asking people to be assholes towards him! Or quirkers! But when they were he'd solve the issue with his fists! Or, at least... try to. He'd solve issues if he actually won fights... maybe.
The man's retort about Kenji needing to watch his figure brought a sharp sound of protest from the boy, a groan of, "Augh, Mosa!"
He walked backwards for a few strides, extending his arms just to protest, "Look at me! If the wind blows too much it'll blow me away!"
He wasn't wrong. Though he wasn't necessarily as gaunt as when he'd first been whisked into the orphanage, he was still just as spindly as ever. Kenji was the kind of kid that old women looked at with kindly eyes and said, "Eat more, sweetie. You're nothing but skin and bones," while piling another serving onto his plate.
Which was fine, because Kenji was always hungry-- hopefully that meant that a growth spurt was imminent.
Kenji was quiet as Mosa explained that the fights held no interest for him. Why not? Watching people kick-ass with their quirks was so cool! Therein lay the difference between Kenji and his chaperone-- while Mosa saw, and was understandably concerned by, fights between children-- Kenji saw people who were free to use their quirks how they wanted. He saw freedom. And goddamn, he wanted it, so badly.
"I think it's really cool," Kenji confirmed, as the resident "young" perspective. They left the parkiing lot, which was little more than spray-painted lines painted on the field, and crossed into the grounds proper, where the festivities were being held.
Although Kenji dutifully remained near Mosa, his eyes tried to crane around the various booths and through the gathered crowd, and he clenched his fists with the restrained excitement. Mosa seemed to be concocting an idea of what to checkout first, so the boy did his best to listen.
"Fighting the bad guys," Kenji insisted. Of course that was what interested him the most-- it involved fighting.

Mosa couldn't help but grin. His joke had hit its mark. Hopefully not too hard though, as the boy outright backed away a little. "Come on now, It is just a FIGURE of speech." A pun to finish it off, so that the boy knew, that he was clearly joking. Either that or to get even a little bit of a chuckle out of him. The boy was a healthy young man, and didn't need to be told othervise. Besides, fighting people was a work out in and of itself.
...No, Mosa shouldn't think about it like that... Or should he? He was a little bit conflicted even still. The protective side of him, that he needed to utilize always with Kasumi around just didn't feel like it fit that well with him talking with Kenji. Heck, he tried to get all interesting with his talks, philosophical, and the boy ended up answering it with a simple 'I want to fight dudes'. Mosa blinked behind his glasses. "Well... If that is the case..." There was clear worry behind his eyes, as much as he tried to hide it. "For the competitive types, the sports club booth would probably be the best one. It would provide you with a clear foe to beat, wouldn't you agree?" A logical conclusion in a way.
However, instead of proceeding to move to that direction, Mosa couldn't help but proceed to ask more questions. "If you don't mind... what else do you find exciting in heroism? Or is that the only thing? The freedom to use your quirk and beating up bad guys?" There had to be more to it. With all the villains popping up lately, taking on such a responsibility was kind of sudden still... "If that was the case, this seems like such a sudden change. And for the better too. Last time we met, you seemed like you were on the verge of giving up and now you are outright shining." The curiosity in him had taken a little bit of control, as he proceeded to ask his classic psychological questions. "It feels to me like there is something behind it all that has made you happy." The question was, was it something he was keeping to himself, or was it simply the thought of becoming a hero on his mind? Either way, it was very important to know for the future. Or so he felt.

SO YOU CAN WEATHER ANY STORM KENJI GROANED AT THE PLAY-ON-WORDS, giving a perfunctory eyeroll. No, anything but puns! But his smile stayed, despite his apparent exasperation at Mosa’s droll wordplay. It was how fathers were supposed to be—not that… not that Mosa was his father, but, it was undeniable that he occupied a very paternal role in more ways than one. He was a counselor and a priest, both very paternal professions—and he had a kid. So at least Mosa was stereotypically fatherly in the sense that he made awful jokes, too.
“Yeah! To the sports booth!” Kenji agreed, at Mosa’s proposal to try the sports club’s booth. The scrawny little redhead might not look like much, in terms of athletic prowess. But what he lacked in physicality, he made-up for in raw enthusiasm.
Mosa didn’t seem satisfied with the teen’s answer, about beating-up the bad guys being the main appeal of being a hero. Perhaps the quip was dismissive, given the teens excitement. He didn’t want to think of the hard questions.
“I mean… that was right after…” the teen paused. It still hurt to go there. His smile faltered slightly, his gaze cutting sideways, “…right after Charles got arrested.”
Charles—his caretaker—the first dad-like figure in a long time, or perhaps ever, to enter into Kenji’s life. Their living situation wasn’t perfect—several meetings with the social worker had made that abundantly clear to the boy—but Charles was the first person who’d really reached for Kenji when he started to slip through the cracks. And that made him alright in Kenji’s book.
“So of course I felt like giving-up. He was all I had.”
Literally. He lost Charles and was put in an orphanage. He’d lost everything.
He shrugged his shoulders, sighing heavily.
“Heroes are just like… really cool, you know? People look-up to them… because they catch people who fall through the cracks, and… and… protect people from bad guys… protect people who can’t protect themselves,” Kenji verbally staggered through a more thoughtful response. On a surface-level, it was a very simplistic way of thinking. Mosa could probably see the deeper truths roiling just beneath the surface, though—by now, Mosa probably knew about Kenji’s lack of stability in his biological family, his history with Charles. He probably knew that Kenji’s whole life had contained its fair share of “people who fell through the cracks” and “people who couldn’t protect themselves”. So the child was clearly speaking from the heart.
“I wanna be someone who’s strong enough to… protect people, and catch them... someone who can like… fight the bad guys and win, who people think is really cool and stuff,” Kenji finally confessed, his excitement brimming once again. So it was more than just kicking-ass—there was a vein of altruism there, of wanting to protect people, the way he’d been protected, and of wanting to be admired and noticed, something that the teen had never really received in his childhood.
Kenji had played right into Mosa’s quest for a deeper answer, and was completely unaware of that fact.

Atleast the boy was enthusiastic about his suggestion, when he provided good reasoning. However, as expected, Mosas questions had dropped his mood down a notch. Especially the fact that Mosa had accidentally poked his former fathers situation. He still hadn't talked it through with the boy proper... and it was something he really wanted to help him through. As usual however, the timing just didn't feel right. Now he was pretty much poking at him while he was in what could be called his disneyland. But on the other hand... he had finally gotten something out of the boy, that he could grab onto and try to learn more about him. Try to get to the bottom of it... and Mosa had learned, that if these sorts of things wouldn't get followed, they might get hidden deeper.
And in this regard, Mosa had atleast succeeded. The boy was stuttering through telling other things he liked about heroes. The fact that they could notice people before they would fall into their spirals, and the simple protection he could offer to people similar to him. And with how he had been overall, it made sense... he didn't want anybody else to go through the same things he had gone. And according to him, he needed to be strong to do so. Understandable thought as well. It also explained why he was so excited by all the competitions even more so...
But of course, as usual, there was something more to say. "I am glad to hear that." You had to always praise people for saying what they wanted to say. "It certainly sounds noble. Especially taking that it is similar reason why I became a psychiatrist in the first place." Admittedly, his had been more along the lines of continuing the legacy of the one priest that had helped him through his hard times. It had left a deep imprint on him. "That and of course, we all have our own people to look up to."
His hand grabbed the boys shoulder. "However, most importantly, there is one thing you should keep in mind." He proceeded to look at him. "When you get into this school, I want you to be open to help. All of the people here are here so they can help teenagers like you move forward, and find a place where they belong." Until this point, he might have been feeling like he had to do all of these things himself. Take contact with people, and keep doing things alone. In his previous meetings, he had always hidden from view. And Mosa had a clear intention of not letting him fall back down to that point. "That and asking for help is not disallowed here. In fact, it is encouraged."
"I will always be ready to help you, if you need it. I don't exactly lock the door to my office whatever the case is..." He genuinely wanted this boy to grow up, and find the mental health strong enough actually achieve that dream of heroism, even with all the dangers involved.

SO YOU CAN WEATHER ANY STORM IT WAS ALL PRETTY PATHETIC, when one got to the bottom of it, wasn’t it? Deep down, Kenji just wanted to be liked by people. His parents, his peers, had systematically and routinely been proving that he wasn’t worth giving attention or time to, and in-turn Kenji acted-out, refusing to be ignored, indignant that anyone would try to sweep him under the rug or call him weak.
Okay, so… he was still pretty weak. But he had spirit, was a whole hell of a lot more than a lot of other people could say!
The redheaded teen was so worried that Mosa would think his reply was stupid—but Mosa actually lauded it. It sounded noble. It was like why Mosa had wanted to be a psychiatrist, and a priest.
Kenji’s gaze had fixed itself on the ground as he’d made his unwieldy confession. But when Mosa avowed that he was one in the same, the redhead quirked a lopsided smile, and glanced at him. It was exactly the kind of encouragement he needed.
The direction of the conversation flipped again—Kenji thought for sure that Mosa would start talking about his experience as a priest or as a psychiatrist, but no—it went back to Kenji.
A heavy hand settled on Kenji’s shoulder, and the teen stiffened. Was he in trouble? He was in trouble, wasn’t he? Preemptive scolding for future mischief?
Kenji’s eyes darted sideways—but what followed was surprising. Mosa wanted Kenji to remember that everyone was here to help him, including himself.
Kenji rubbed the back of his neck.
“I’ll try to,” he said, rather noncommittally, “I think I’ll be mostly okay, right? It’s just like high school but with super-powered kids, right?”
That’s what Tsuchiya-san had said, anyways. Or maybe he was misremembering. Besides, if other kids were strong enough to go to hero-school and not need babysitting, why was he any different? Kenji could handle it!
It was the sort of stubborn refusal of help common in one who’d been self-sufficient (in their own mind) for so long.
This was too weird. But Kenji let himself be anchored down by Mosa’s heavy hand.
“If I have any issues, I’ll come to you,” Kenji swore, finally yielding, “I’ll probably come to you even if I’m not having issues.”
Mosa knew the most about Kenji’s business. He knew Kenji from the days when Charles was still watching him, and he knew Kenji now, while he was still in the orphanage.
“So uh,” Kenji trailed, casually dropping his shoulder so as to slide Mosa’s off of it. Hey, at least he hadn’t winced away—“Let’s do this... Sports Fest thing, yeah?”
At Mosa’s agreement, the teen would turn and start eagerly striding towards the stalls, the sights and scents and sounds of merriment dilating before them, and then swallowing them whole.
Languages from all over the world drew them into the fold—there were people laughing and shouting—a cry of jubilation at a carnival game—foods sizzling and scent unfurling on tendrils of smoke—children, parents, the elderly—a swathe of languages were being spoken amidst them all—
Kenji did his best to stay focused, but with the whirl of excitement around him it was difficult not to get a little starry-eyed. They were looking for the Sports Club’s tent first, though—that was the agreement.
Over the tops of other peoples’ heads, Kenji could barely see the hand-drawn wooden sign for the sports club. Because he was so short, though, it was impossible to make-out the activity.
“Over there!” Kenji called-out, pointing in the direction of the booth, before insisting, “Mosa, come on!”
He was eager, but so much so that he was going to ditch his chaperone. And that… had to count for something, honestly.
With such an immense crowd, though, it was difficult for someone as diminutive as Kenji to really navigate his way to the desired booth. Mosa’s vantage point was far better-suited for the task.

"It sort of is, yes." The only difference between these students and ones from a normal school, was the higher amount of power, and the immense responsibility that came with it. In that regard, Kenji was completely right in his assumption. And that responsibility part felt like the biggest hurdle for him to need to face. However, the boys words about coming to him when he had issues gave him some sort of image, that he did care about his situation... but him wanting to come meet him even when he didn't need him had him a bit surprised. "I don't know. I can be a quite boring person to hang around with just for fun. Well, except if you are into comic books." One of those things he could imagine a teen being into... that or just talking.
...Mosa couldn't help but chuckle at the reminder Kenji provided. Indeed, they were still at the sports festival. And he was pretty much holding them back from making progress. "Apologies. i have a bad tendency to keep going, when I find something interesting to talk about. Let's keep going." With that they continued forward. Surrounded by speech of all sorts visitors from different countries. The even truly was almost a melding pot of all sorts of cultures. And Mosa couldn't help but feel a little awkward about what they were there to watch...
But that wasn't the important part. The moment they reached the sports club tent, it was really hard to see what was going on. Mosa however could see the wooden sign, and the bright orange wearing teenager with spiky black hair and loud voice encouraging people to join in on his sporty endeavours. It looked like current thing he was doing was floorball. The boy himself was one of those folks, who were hard to ignore in the school. Mosa held Kenjis hand, pulling him along, making sure that he wasn't swallowed up by the crowd as he kept his eyes on the target. Hadn't this boy just moved into the dorms, so he was seen even more often around.
...Mosa once again came up with a question, but they were right in front of the booth. At this point, it would be rude for him to keep Kenji from having fun. "Do you want to join in? I'll wait on the sidelines. Like I said, I am not exactly the most sporty fellow..." Depending on the boys choice, he would for a moment just observe the boy hopefully having fun with other students-to-be. And once the boy returned, he would ask his question. "Actually... Where are you going to live? I know the dorms here always have space for new students." Taking that the boy was the type to hide away from others, living in the dorms seemed like an important part for him to start talking more with others. But with his life being what it was... would he be able to make such a big change this quickly?

SO YOU CAN WEATHER ANY STORM THE TEEN HESITATED WHEN MOSA insisted that he wasn’t very interesting to hang around with. Oh. Well. That… wasn’t the point? Mosa was one of very few people that had showed a vested interest in the teen—he’d brought-up U.A. after their first happenstance meeting in the park, taken him home for dinner when reconnecting at the orphanage, brought him to tour the U.A. campus in the throes of a pretty hopeless time in Kenji’s life. Mosa seemed like the kind of person who cared about how Kenji was doing, the kind of person who’d be okay with the periodic casual visit. But… perhaps Kenji was wrong?
“I do like some manga?” Kenji offered, doing his best to put-on a hopeful tone.
The two broke into the crowd, and the redhead was nearly washed away by the much-taller festivalgoers. Perhaps it was reflexive, but in the chaos, Mosa made a grab for the young teen’s hand. Kenji stiffened marginally, but allowed himself to be led, surprised (and admittedly embarrassed) to be led-along in such a fashion, and so suddenly.
He’s used to having a little kid along with him, the teen reminded himself, doing his best to squelch-out the odd expression that was creeping across his face. Don’t hold it against him, Kenji continued thinking to himself.
They arrived to the Sports Club tent without issue. Once there, Kenji freed himself from Mosa’s hand, straining to see what the sport was. Regardless of the objective of the game, which Kenji didn’t admittedly recognize at a glance, the teen would proclaim, “Yeah, of course-! Looks fun!”
Mosa insisted that he wasn’t very athletic, which prompted a teasing protest from the teen, “Ah, come on! The point isn’t to be athletic! It’s to have fun!”
He wouldn’t persist if his chaperone continued to be unenthusiastic about joining—but Kenji didn’t want to be partaking in all the Festival had to offer while Mosa just sat by and watched. Where was the fun in that?
The redhead craned his neck to try and see the booth more clearly, standing on tiptoes.
Mosa casually sprung the question of Kenji’s living situation, mentioning the dorms as a distinct possibility.
“I aiming to move-in to the dorms, yeah,” Kenji confirmed, sinking back onto the flats of his feet. He pushed a hand up under his knit-cap, itching his head, “Commuting from the orphanage sounds like a pain—or if I get put in a home? Forget about it.”
There had been murmurs of moving him back into the foster system rather than the orphanage—it was more restrictive, and there were less little kids. Or something like that. Kenji straightened his hat, sighing with determination.
“Besides! It’s harder to ditch school if you live at school, right?”
In his defense, he’d been at an all-time low when he’d been ditching school, but Kenji wasn’t necessarily wrong. Finally, the unusual duo arrived at the booth, and they were greeted by a rather boisterous spokesperson who welcomed them on the behalf of the Sports Club.
“H-hey!” Kenji greeted, “I would like to try, uh… whatever… you have going-on here?”

the dynamic had sort of flipped itself on its head for the duo. With Mosas mind deeply sunk into all these thoughts, he was starting to be the 'slouch'. The one who held back the excitement. Honestly how Kenji was putting it, was way healthier way of thinking about it, and it hit Mosa pretty hard. "...That's true. You know what, let's take a crack at it." Maybe he should just consider going with the flow on this one, instead of keeping to his usual rhythm. Let the boy take control. Well, aside from making it to the actual place where they were going. Othervise they would be getting swept into the crowd proper.
In the case of his living situation, indeed, the boy was going to be moving into the dorms. "You do make a good point, Walking or even biking to school can be awfully tiring." Especially when you didn't need to do that before. That and hanging around with people from the orphanage never seemed to be his priority. That, and Mosa couldn't help but let out a hint of a chuckle at his mention of ditching school. "Admittedly, even at the dorms you can always end up sleeping in. But it is a good thing you already consider this sort of things." Maybe he was really worried for nothing.
However, as they ended up in front of the sporty lad, and Kenji shouted for attention, the boy immediately proceeded to point his finger towards him! "Oh heck yeah, dude immediately at the front ready to go!" The boy clapped his hands and proceeded to wave him over. Mosa at first stayed behind, but seemingly, the sporty boy also recognized him! "You too, big teacher dude! Got the perfect position for you on this team!" "Uh, for me?" As much as he had told himself he would take it more easy mentally, it still took a bit of courage to step forward. It was like he was being drafted for a high school sports team! The big boy proceeded to pat the wide shouldered gentleman on the shoulder, and gave him a hockey stick looking stick. "I mean, yeah dude! You will make the perfect goalie with those shoulders of yours, you know!?" Wait a minute, he was going to get balls shot in his direction? Ugh, come one, it's not that bad! The boy was a hero student, he would know not to do something that could actually hurt him!
With that Mosa took his position over the net, which was hilariously enough, smaller than him in size. The boy wasn't lying, his upper body was indeed pretty much covering the upper side of the goal. However, his mighty spindly legs were leaving the under side kind of uncovered. However, meanwhile, the boy gave Kenji a hockey stick too. "Now, we are playing floorball! Rules are simple! You try to grab the ball, and shoot it into the goal with the stick!" He clapped his own stick against the floor, as he turned to look at Mosa. "You can use the stick to block the balls coming your way pretty easy! Little tip, put the end of it sideways, takes more space!" "Ah, of course!" Curses, he had not read enough sports manga for this! He awkwardly turned his stick on its side, trying to see how that would go...
"Meanwhile... we duel on who has the ball first!" He dropped the hollow and hole filled ball against the floor, and placed his stick next to it. "You ready to go?!" Mosa was keeping an eye on this sight. Darn, these worried thoughts were going through his head. What if the boy got beaten by this big lad? Hopefully wouldn't crush his excitement... On the other hand, this sporty boy was seemingly just excited to have a partner, even prepared to let the new guy take the lead for a while!

SO YOU CAN WEATHER ANY STORM THE REDHEAD WASN'T SURE how well his attempt at persuading the massive man would work—honestly he was just eager to have some fun, and not just by himself, but with his chaperone, too. Watching was no fun! And kinda weird. But engaging in the sport together? Super fun!
No sooner had Mosa agreed to join in the fun, he got enlisted into the goalie position with a congenial pat on the shoulder and one, big goalie stick.
“Yeah, goalie!” Kenji cheered, getting swept-up in the high spirits. Moments later, the sporty, dark-haired boy with the crew-cut descended on Kenji, offering him a hockey stick. They would duel for the whiffle ball, and whoever succeeded in getting it would take a shot on Mosa.
“Awesome!” the teen agreed.
Real talk, Kenji didn’t know how to hold a hockey stick—so he took his cue from the older boy, who sort-of loomed over him. Kenji’s hold on the stick was a little confused—he gripped it one way, then saw how the other boy was holding the stick, and adjusted. His stance was all wrong—but the foolhardy grin had settled into something a little more determined.
“I’m ready,” he murmured.
The teen would wait for the other boy to signal “on his mark” before tensing at the ready. By the time “GO!’ was shouted, Kenji would sloppily cut towards the whiffle ball. His tongue poked upward out of his mouth against his top lip in concentration. If he was successful in getting the ball, he would start to run towards Mosa—but if he was unsuccessful, the teen would jog after the bigger boy, trying to reach around him and snag the ball with his hockey stick. For as spirited as the smaller teen was, he lacked the general sportiness that most boys possessed. His prowess was limited to skateboarding and climbing things he shouldn't.
