With both this huge lad, and Kenji cheering him to be the goalie, Mosa had been forced into a quite spooky predicament. When he had said he didn't play much ball, he wasn't lying. Just being hit by one was quite spooky. In the comics he read about the subject, excited teenagers could hit a ball so hard it pretty much became a two page blur! And by any logic, super hero students doing the same thing could only equal hurt! He really hoped they wouldn't mind, if he just got out of the way instead, if the ball happened to come at those speeds.
Meanwhile, the boys in the middle were pretty much ready to start this thing. The big boy chuckled at Kenjis stand a little, although the friendly smile didn't drop from his face. Guess he was trying to make a friendly taunt. "Ready as we'll ever be! SO!" He clapped his stick against Kenjis, as he loudly counted: "3! 2! 1! And ALLEY-" And with that last one, Kenji successfully snagged the ball for now! "-op?!" The stick went swinging wide, as Kenji immediately started to charge towards the goal, Mosa snapping to attention! "Okay, I am ready! F-feel free to shoot it!" However, as soon as Kenji would be lifting his stick for a strike towards the goal...
The big boy swooped in, stealing the ball easily, running past his front without many issues. "Going straight for the goal, I getcha! However! that's a bit too obvious of a move, making it easy to block!" However, as he turned around, he wound up his own strike, and whacked the ball proper! "AND COUNTER!" Mosa let out an awkward gasp, as he bent a little bit too much forward, as the ball bonked against the curvy side of his stick, and rolled away. "...I got it? Whew." He straightened his back awkwardly, as the boy proceeded to lift his finger in an attention grabbing way.
However, soon his stick hit the ground again. "You gotta be a bit sneakier about it!" With this, he proceeded to run towards the goal in a banana shaped curve. If he wasn't stopped, he would be launching another ball towards the goal. Mosa proceeded to prepare himself mentally... He had this time noticed what was happening. "Okay, do not fear the ball, for the ball feareth thou..." He said. He was trying to calm himself with a bit of comedy.

SO YOU CAN WEATHER ANY STORM HE GOT THE BALL! He actually got it! The look of intense concentration broke into a disbelieving grin as Kenji artlessly tried to push the ball farther down the court(?) with his stick. His technique was virtually nonexistent, but Mosa still stiffened at the threat of a shot, telling Kenji to bring it on.
“Don’t need to tell me tw- HEY!” Kenji began to say cheekily, raising his stick to shoot. No sooner had he begun to banter, had the ball been swiped from right under his nose. Talk about a preemptive celebration. The dark-haired student swooped-in and stole the ball, leaving the redhead chasing after him.
Kenji had never played on a sports team before, so he really didn’t understand the pointers that the older boy was giving him—don’t get straight for the goal? That sounded so counterintuitive!! Kenji watched with dread as the bigger boy shot at the goal, and was slightly relieved when Mosa managed to block it. It would have been so anticlimactic, to have coerced Mosa to play and then to have so quickly lost.
The gangly junior-high-schooler lagged behind the bigger boy, whose longer legs made it easy to outrun Kenji’s shorter strides. The redhead reached with his stick, trying to sneak behind the dark-haired high-schooler’s stick to try and slap the ball out of his control. (Or, at the very least, make shooting again more difficult.)
He was so intent upon the ball, he stumbled, half-catching himself upon the hockey-stick.
By the virtue of this fluke, Kenji was able to slide his stick between the ball and the other boy’s stick, pushing it out of his control and sending it skittering away from the goal again.
Kenji planted his foot down, flat, upon the pavement to stop himself from face-planting. He then pivoted on this foot and darted after the ball, one hand stretching the stick out ahead of him.
One perk of being small was one’s agility—redirecting momentum on a dime. At least Kenji had that over the other boy.
Don’t be so obvious, Kenji reminded himself, slowing the ball’s descent with his stick. He was panting a bit, from exertion, and he gave a disbelieving smile as the older boy turned to face him.
Kenji would start by veering to the left—moving at a steady jogging pace—once the high-schooler was within range of the hockey sticks, Kenji would attempt to cut right, increasing his speed to a sprint.
If the older boy stayed on him, it would be easy to interrupt Kenji and steal the ball back—because, as mentioned previously, Kenji was not a uniquely sporty boy. But, if by some miracle the redhead managed to break free, Kenji would try to line-up a shot and take it.

For Mosa, it was surprisingly fun just watching the duo play ball. Even if it was occasionally kind of scary, with him being the target for both of them, just seeing Kenji so excitedly trying this whole new thing for him, had him smiling. He truly had come far from the time they had first met, sitting at the bus stop, waiting for a person who now didn't even exist in his life anymore. He had to wonder if he was thinking such things even still. "You can do it, Kenji!" Cheering was important, especially, with the attack coming his way...
The sporty boy was charging, and ready! The blow was coming. Hearing the sound of the boy falling over behind him, he couldn't help but let a chuckle. "The classic risk of getting to the ball, instead of balance! I can dig it!" His head turned towards the goal, as he wound up a shot. "But looks like its time to break open the point vault!" He shouted, as he SWUNG towards Mosa! ...Only for there to be a severe lack of the satisfying clonk! "HUH!?" His eyes scanned around for the ball, only to see the ball rolling away from him! "Okay, I dunno what you did, but that's hella funky!" As Kenji got the ball, The sporty lad had to do a complete U-turn, as he faced toward him. He pushed his stick forward, preparing for a clash of mettle!
Only for Kenji to sveer to the right!, leading to Sporty lad needing to turn awkwardly again! And with that, Kenji had just enough time to line up a shot and fire... and with Mosas tensions concentrating on the match itself instead of blocking, the ball went through the between of his legs, and hit the net. "...T-That's a goal, dudes and dudettes!" Kirk punched the air to cheer like some sort of fight announcer announcing the results. Mosa clapped, although blushing a little. "I guess I shouldn't have put the pair as a goal and a player. Makes the goal a bit less protected, hehe! Ruined my winstreak!" Even though he said that, you could see in the guy, that he wasn't exactly mad. "What I can say is that this dude sure has the guts! He gonna be a student here, Mosa-dude?" "Well, Actually, yes. This year." The sporty boy clapped his hands together. "Well, that's settled then right?! You joining sports club afterwards!" He swung a really strong pat at Kenjis back. "But for now, gotta let the other dudes have their turn! See ya at the school!"
Mosa pinched his eyes a bit, as he started walking away from the club room. "I do admit, the match could've probably gone for longer, if I wasn't so interested in the clash itself." A bit embarrassing that's for sure. "Although, I do agree. those moves you were showing were indeed 'quite funky'." There was the funky slang again. "I wonder if that's what you've learned from all that skateboarding that you've been. that or quirk shenanigans." The man smiled. Calm regular questions flowed. "I suppose the next thing we should do, is go eat and celebrate!"

SO YOU CAN WEATHER ANY STORM MOSA CHEERED FOR THE TEEN, in spite of himself, and the redhead laughed breathlessly in spite of himself. He could feel a sort of delighted swelling in his chest. Pride, over someone cheering for him, perhaps? And the self-satisfaction only persisted as he managed to best the older-boy by snatching the ball right out from under his nose.
It all passed in a whirl. Dodging—lining up the shot—actually scoring!?! Kenji straightened his posture, seeming stunned that it had actually… truly… worked.
“I… did it?”
The older boy cheered, congratulating the pair. Upon Mosa revealing that Kenji was enrolling, the sporty dude insisted that Kenji join the sports club, clapping a hand on his shoulder.
The gesture was a bit rough, causing Kenji’s shoulder to sting slightly, but the redhead managed a smile.
“Sounds great!” Kenji agreed.
And then, they parted ways. Kenji rolled his shoulder, trying to ease away the soreness, as he and Mosa walked along the path. The brief competition had done a bit to burn some of Kenji’s energy, so as he walked with Mosa he was marginally calmer than before. A thin sheen of sweat coated his forehead.
“That’s alright,” Kenji assured his companion, wiping his forehead with the back of his arm, “I don’t think I could’ve kept-up with that dude much longer, honestly. I’m glad you were ‘so interested’.”
He said this between huffs. The redhead stretched theatrically, reaching his arms high up above his head, before deflating and dropping his arms.
“Th-thanks Mosa,” Kenji said with a lopsided, and modest, smile, “You weren’t so bad yourself! You blocked well!”
For a guy who’d been so nervous about being in the goal, he’d really carried his own. A faint flush crept into the teen’s cheeks at the mention of quirk shenanigans, and the redhead looked pointedly away.
“My junior-high friends and I like to do, uh… urban gymnastics,” the teen explained, “Like, uh, climbing things we aren’t supposed to, jumping-off of things… it probably comes from that?”
There was some quirk-use involved in that, too. Mosa probably already knew that, but Kenji would never fess-up to it. Also, trespassing. Another implied piece of mischief.
“Food sounds great!” the teen agreed, “What do we want to eat?”
Already the scent of various delicacies wafted on the air from various food-stalls and vendors, tantalizing the pair as they walked closer. It wasn’t so much of an issue of finding food, but moreso an issue of choosing. If they could name it, it was probably there.
Professionally-made signs stood tall above the crowds alongside handwritten ones, touting their offerings—yakitori, takoyaki, yakisoba, cotton candy, chocolate-dipped banana’s, shaved ice, dango, and candy-apples, to name a few. A wealth of choices were at their disposal, but what to choose?
“Too early for sugary things,” Kenji murmured, with an unusual degree of pragmatism. His eyes skimmed over the signs, at least the ones that he could see through the crowd.
“What do you think, Mosa?”
The counselor, admittedly, had a somewhat-better vantage point than the teen beside him.

Yeah, a not even yet in the school student playing a match against a student in his second year, the result would have been clear for a longer match. In the end, he had clearly taken the boy by surprise, and the match was decided by that fact. "Well, it was a proper match either way. Feels like it would be alright to cheer for something like that." Any competition could get exciting if you watched it for long enough. Although, it was clear the boy wasn't exactly used to praises. But in the end, he was taking them, so that was good. Him praising Mosa though, Mosa just grinned a little. "Fearing the ball is a surprisingly effective tactic, believe it or not." In this case he was proud to be honest.
Of course, Mosa wasn't trying to make Kenji feel awkward with his assumptions. He was more thinking about it in the light of 'creative use of previous experiences'. Because of that, he let it kind of slide with a simple. "Of course, Very effective, I would assume."
With the discussion of food coming up, Mosa started looking around at all the different signs telling what they've got. And honestly, Mosa found yet another chance for a moderately silly joke. "Let's go for Takoyaki. After all, Fish is very healthy, and especially after a workout. Lots of protein to help the muscles grow, like that boy from before." He gave slightest of chuckles. The boy from before was quite a meatball in that regard. "Luckily they hadn't chosen something rugby as a sport to try. Those shoulders could break a car."
As they went in line, Mosa, rubbed his chin again. "Come to think of it, have you met any other to-be students yet?" He atleast assumed he had. If a teacher had given him the tour, there was bound to be some others.

so you can weather any storm AS MOSA REMARKED THAT FISH would be the best course of action, the teen snorted back a laugh, smiling.
“Oh, good thought. That’ll help me pack-on the muscle,” the redhead agreed. Kenji followed Mosa into the line, slipping his hands into his pockets. It was decently crowded, so navigating the area was far easier when Kenji let Mosa take the lead.
As Mosa conversationally suggested that “at least it wasn’t rugby”, Kenji shuddered involuntarily.
“That guy would’ve snapped me like a toothpick.”
Although the Sporty Boy seemed really nice, he was so robust—and Kenji so diminutive—that an accidental snapping-in-two was incredibly likely.
The redhead craned his head to see the front of the line—perhaps if the takoyaki booth offered anything else to eat in addition to their main dish. He was too short, so couldn’t see much. Kenji resigned himself, sinking back onto the flats of his feet.
Again, another question—had Kenji met any other U.A. students? The teen rubbed his chin, dipping his head ponderously. While Mosa was thinking “in the scope of the tour”, the teen’s understanding of the question was a bit more broad—had he met any U.A. students overall.
“Yeah, actually…” Kenji mused, “There was this girl that could fly… that’s how I broke my skateboard… and this kid who got in a fight at the mall. He was kind-of a wuss. I didn’t start the fight, though, just intervened cuz the kid was like… in over his head.”
His mind had conveniently excluded a particular encounter where one U.A. hopeful had stopped Kenji’s attempted robbery of a video arcade. But that kid hadn’t explicitly proclaimed themselves to be a U.A. hopeful, had they?
The line edged laboriously forward, and the pair stepped forward, patiently awaiting their turn.
“We’ll see if I know anyone else, though,” Kenji offered conversationally, “I’m out around Musutafu a lot, so… I see plenty of people. You know?”

Mosa could notice the boys height based woes. Admittedly he wasn't exactly the tallest, but hey, he was tallER. He looked towards the takoyaki stand... and noticed that there was a little pot near it too, with a lot of sticks skewered through balls of different colors. "Looks like they also serve Dango. Although, those aren't exactly filling I would say. Makes for a good after meal snack though." Honestly, the Dangos made him regret a little that he hadn't brought Kasumi along. She would have loved those. Wonder if they allowed pickup?
Mosa raised an eyebrow at the people he had met. "You will notice that quite a few girls here can fly. The question is, how did she fly?" He poked his own head a little. "If she had wings, I think she has been a client of mine." Angel. A very peculiar child. Quick on the uptake, but Mosa was not exactly sure if his help really stuck sometimes. He just hoped she didn't end up in trouble over it... His attention however in the case of the other student was instead on Kenji himself. "Ah, well that is awkward... Did you get it back in some form yet?" His understanding was that it was semi-important to him. However, the boy apparently had a lot more friends in Musutafu, which was certainly a relief. Heck, was that a joke he made? Mosa smiled at it either way.
But it just brought up the big thing in his head once again. He wanted to help the boy... but he wasn't sure how to do it, without stepping on boundaries or other peoples duties. "...I could perhaps buy you a new one myself, if you haven't replaced it yet?" Ugh, monetary help like that wasn't exactly the sort of thing he wanted to do. Besides, Kenji would probably be weirded out by it, if it ever went too far. Honestly, in this case he should probably just follow his own advice and ask directly. "If you don't mind, is there anything I could help you with? Anything at all?"

so you can weather any storm KENJI BRIGHTENED EVEN MORE at the mention of dango, grinning brightly. Offers of dessert when they hadn’t even eaten lunch? Score!
“Sounds good to me!” the boy agreed.
The line inched forward, and the pair followed. Mosa seemed curious about the girl Kenji had flown with, inquiring as to whether or not the girl had wings. The redhead, nodded his head, slowly, and then clarified.
“She had, uh… ear-wings?” Kenji explained. He took both of his hands and tucked them behind his ears, to demonstrate, “No ears, as far as I could tell. Just… really tiny wings on either side of her head. I don’t think that was how she flew, though.”
The youth was unaware of U.A.’s strict “no quirk use off-campus without clearance” rules, so was blissfully unaware of the fact that he was rating Yui out. That said, he was also blissfully aware of the fact that Yui had been expelled many months prior.
The youth shook his head, his tone growing dismal.
“I retrieved the board, yeah,” Kenji sighed, “But it was snapped in two. I think someone ran over it.”
Sticky disks could only hold a board aloft for so long, when you were flying. Kenji squinted towards the front of the line, his face tensing slightly. He’d been dying to skate for months now. But no amount of duct tape seemed to do the trick. The board couldn’t hold weight.
The offer that followed took Kenji by surprise—Mosa could buy him a new board?
The teen was so jarred by the offhanded offer—a good board ranged around 15,000 yen, give or take a few thousand—that his expression that crossed Kenji’s expression seemed somewhere between “pained” and “disbelieving”.
And, as if that wasn’t enough, Mosa began to ask if here was anything else the boy needed, while he was at it? Anything Kenji wanted help with?
He should have grinned and brushed it off. That’s what today was about, wasn’t it? Forgetting things and having fun? Forgetting that Kenji’s life was so sad and pathetic, and just… hanging out, right?
Bringing finances and helplessness into the equation made it impossible to forget.
“Why?” Kenji blurted. He tried to smile it off, but the smile was a little brittle around the edges. The teen grimaced, and looked away again. Why did Mosa care? Why did he offer all these things to Kenji when there was no intrinsic reward to doing so? Well… Kenji was kind-of the perfect charity case.
The teen tried to fix his face, rubbing his eyes. He wasn’t crying, okay? His eyes just itched.
“This is more than enough,” the redhead assured the counselor, “A day out. Lunch. You don’t need to do anything else.”
Asking for too much would only open the door to further disappointment.

Mosas hand went over to his face, as they mentioned Yui. He was sadly not familiar with the girl. Perhaps they hadn't been around for too long? Admittedly, it didn't matter that much. Mosa didn't need to know everyone a boy like Kenji hung out with. He had just been able to make some sort of connection between winged folks... "Gosh, I hope that associating people with what their quirk is isn't too rude when you don't know their name." Mosa couldn't help but blush the tiniest bit. It was something everybody did at some point probably. "No excuse when you do know their name, though." He chuckled a little to him.
Admittedly, just hearing that Kenjis board was split in two, it just made his effort at somehow compensating for it already that much stronger. But, when he said that, the boy got visibly taken off-guard a little. The look he gave didn't exactly seem very welcoming to the idea. For a moment, he just looked at him with a loud 'why?' Mosa froze, and breathed through his nose. Was he being too pushy again? However, the boy seemed to be at the edge of crying, with how they were pinching their eyes. However, the boy insisted that this was enough, and that asking for more, would be weird.
...Mosa was silenced for a little bit, as they got to the end of the line, bought their sticks of dangos, and piles of takoyaki (Mosas plate looking particularly 'not for muscle growth' sized), And as they walked over to the table, Mosa crossed his hands and gave his little prayers. And he seemed to get an idea. "I suppose it's a little bit of the religious side of me. Helping others for no visible gain, is one of the virtues in the bible." He took one of the takoyaki balls, and munched it quickly. Admittedly, Kenji wasn't the sort of person who would care about religion... "That, and I have that feeling all people probably have, where helping other people makes me feel happy inside." He hadn't even really considered what a skateboard would cost in his suggestion after all.
"Besides, with a skateboard, I assume you could come meet me and Kasumi easier. She especially would be happy to hear the news, that you are doing well in your life." Surprisingly, after he said that he took another takoyaki ball into his mouth and sighed. "I would just like to help you keep it that way if I could." There he goes again. There was just something special about the boy. With him this well into recovery, seeing him drop again to the ground would be heartbreaking. "Luckily I work here, so I can at least keep an eye on your progress that way."

so you can weather any storm A WEIRD SILENCE STRETCHED between the two, leaving nothing but the sense of having wronged Mosa by being too prickly in its wake. People didn’t buy Kenji things out of the goodness of their heart—everything had an ulterior motive. Small things were acceptable, like lunch and a day of diversions—but big things were suspect. Big things came with strings attached. One couldn’t be too careful.
Kenji scratched his cheek, keeping his eyes down even once they’d reached the front of the line. Mosa handled the ordering, thankfully—the redhead, all the while, wondered why he couldn’t just accept a hand-out. What was wrong with Kenji? Any other kid would’ve jumped at the chance to get an expensive toy at no cost to themselves.
He was still turning the thought over in his head when the two found a seat together. Kenji took a place on the opposite side of the table from Mosa, steepling his hands without really praying. He just kind-of looked at the surface of the table.
The prayer finished, Mosa began to eat… and still, the redhead was quiet. Finally, an answer came—
Charity. He was doing it for the feel-good feelings that came with being charitable.
Kenji huffed, grabbing a stick of dango.
“But I feel like there are… way cheaper ways to… show charity, or whatever,” Kenji countered. Ah, there it was—the drollness—not the prone, surprised exclamation, but a thick wall of teenage cynicism. It was safer, there, behind that wall. Kenji took a bite of dango, chewing slowly. A full mouth momentarily prevented him from making any further refusals.
Mosa persisted. If Kenji had a board, he could visit Mosa and Kasumi—Kasumi would love to see him. Mosa wanted to keep tabs on him, make sure he was doing well… at least he could do that, with Kenji in school.
The redhead drew his shoulders inward, bracing one arm by clasping it with the other. Kenji had always assumed that once he moved into the dorms, it’d be like it was in the orphanage. No one watching out for him, just kind-of… hanging out, you know? But Mosa wanted to keep track of him. Mosa wanted to see Kenji succeed.
“You’ll see a whole bunch of me at school,” Kenji said in agreement, glossing-over the other remarks about visiting Mosa’s home again. That was supposed to be a one-time thing—an outing spurred from pity. He didn’t want to interrupt the “happy home life” thing they had going by showing-up whenever, “I mean, sh… shoot, you’ll probably see too much of me at school. I’m one of those problem kids. Can’t stay out of trouble.”
And Mosa was the guidance counselor. His life was filled with problem kids. Right? Surely he’d get sick of the redhead, after seeing him in a consultative capacity all the time. Kenji smiled again, mirthlessly, as he bit another dango off of a stick, tucking it into his cheek.
“You’d probably need a break from me, once the weekend hits,” the child persisted, blissfully ignorant of how unsympathetic he was being to himself.

Mosa wasn't really sure how to feel about Kenji still thinking this was a charity thing... Maybe he was just coming off as a welloff guy giving away from his bountiful sack of riches to the poor. Even though the meal was literally Dangos and takoyaki, some of the most classic fast food you could find. It literally wasn't a lot. Heck, even his reaction to him wanting to meet him more afterwards, was met with a bit of a denouncement in the way of 'you'll see me a lot anyways'. "But like I said, Kasumi won't." Kasumi wasn't a hero student. Of course, Mosa wondered if Kenji would consider that as him just looking for excuses.
"Look, everybody needs a break everybody at some point. But unluckily for you, I am quite social when I am in the mood to speak." He took a bite of his own dangos sweet. "Why do you think I became a therapist?" A light joke to calm his tenseness a little. "After all, not even parents are supposed to be around their kids all the time. As much as they worry about them." Being overprotective usually landed the kids in trouble later, when they wouldn't be able to handle themselves in simple situations. "Dunno if the same could be considered for you and Kasumi though. For her, you might already be a part of the family."
Part of the family... certainly an interesting wording for it.

so you can weather any storm KENJI GNAWED ON THE DANGO STICK pensively, rather than pursuing another bite of food. What was so… uncomfortable about someone caring about you? Maybe it came from a place of being pushed away by the people who were supposed to care. So when someone showed the first sign of actually giving a shit, he dug his heels in?
But, again, Kenji was not so introspective. He just knew that Mosa was eerily fixated on the teen’s wellbeing. And it was weird.
Kenji huffed, yielding a little as Mosa tried to ease the prickliness with a joke—why did Mosa become a therapist.
“’cuz you like the problem kids,” Kenji hazarded, a sort of softness creeping into his smirk. Less bristliness. Less bite. Logically, the therapist would deal mostly with problematic students, rather than the well-behaved ones. Sort-of like a… reparative measure.
Finally, the youth bit another dango off of the stick, munching thoughtfully. He supposed even relatives that got along needed breaks from one another… friends with fairly lackluster, happy lives would often complain about how their parents drove them crazy… so… there was merit to what Mosa said. Even people that loved each other needed an escape.
And Kenji also supposed not seeing Kasumi would be sad… she was a fun kid.
“Ha, I wish,” Kenji said candidly, through a mouthful of dango, “That’s sweet, though. Kasumi’s a nice kid.”
The redhead paused, swallowing his mouthful of food. His hazel eyes lingered on the last dango on the stick, spinning it slowly as if planning a route of attack. Did… did he really just… say he wished he was already part of the family? God, that was cringe-y.

Mosa couldn't help but chuckle a little at Kenjis statement. It caught him off-guard with all his thoughts. "I suppose that's somehow correct." Like he had mused before, there was a certain satisfaction in seeing someone with problems get over said problems, and be victorious. People getting over their fears, and in the end, feeling better about themselves. "That and there is certainly a more interesting aura about the sort of folks, who aren't afraid to do things for themselves, even if it risks their image." There was a reason why the anti-heroes in comic books ended up often becoming more popular than the main man themselves.
And in the end, Kenji seemingly agreed, that not seeing Kasumi would be a bit sad. At this point, an awkward moment of quiet hit, as both of them seemingly enjoyed their food. Whether it was this moment or something else, it did make Mosa connect some dots inside his head. In the end, it seemed like there was one option neither of them had yet really considered. And in some regards, it seemed like the question was already in their heads.
He placed his utensils down, as he looked towards him with curious eyes. "Well... what do you think? Would you like to join the Ganbaroshi family officially?"
In the end, that seemed like the only thing that he didn't currently have: A parent and siblings. There was of course a worry, that this would come off as a forceful offer. But now that it was out there, it was up to Kenji himself to decide. "And before you ask, I am not opposed to the idea. I am actually quite interested in the possibility." Of course, these sorts of things usually took a little bit more thinking. But luckily for them, with school ahead of them and him having a place to live at U.A for years...
Kenji had a lot of time.

so you can weather any storm THE RELUCTANT SMILE THAT HAD CREPT over Kenji’s features remained there. Mosa didn’t discount the teen’s remark, but instead agreed with it—that perhaps people who weren’t “afraid to do things for themselves, even if it risked their image” were more interesting than others, sometimes. Of course, the redhead’s mind cleaved to Charles and his affiliates, to G… heroes who, by societal standards, were actually criminals. People Kenji looked-up to.
“Yeah, they are super cool,” the redhead agreed obliquely.
A flush crept into Kenji’s cheeks, accompanied by a surprised, reluctant smile.
“You’re serious?”
It just seemed like… such a weighty question to ask over a lunch, at a festival of all places. Then again… Charles had offered to adopt him after a failed kidnapping, so… situation normal, in terms of unusual offers of adoption?
Mosa hastily explained that he really was interested in adopting the redhead. That it wasn’t something out of pity or obligation.
The child’s heart threw itself against his ribs in a sort of excitement, and he let his gaze flutter to the last dango, which at this point had started to sink on the stick that skewered it, and threatened to land on Kenji’s hand.
“We could… give it a shot?” the redhead suggested. Given how spectacularly his last “family” had failed, Kenji was reluctant to agree outright, but… Mosa was a kind father with one adopted kid already. A kid that seemed okay with Kenji, and relatively well-adjusted. And, as far as the teen could tell, there was no vigilantism or hints of instability in the family. It could be a very good deal.
“Yeah…” Kenji reiterated, more confidence seeping into his tone as he steeled himself to the idea, “Let’s give it a shot!”
