- Questionable Endeavors - " Captain's drunk, your world is Titanic. Floating on the funk, so get your groove on " On any other day or occasion Jasmine might have been so pissed off over the fact that she had some after hours school work to sort out. Just the concept of homework annoyed her, frankly, and the fact that this was something that actually required labor was even more irritating. This time, however, was a little different. When she was approached by one of the teachers, she had been reluctant. Understandably, the school, despite being quite well funded, had been rather understaffed - either due to late arrivals or something else entirely - and they hadn't managed to sort everything out for the studious bash that was sure to come. As a result, she and one other girl from her class had been asked to help sort some things out. Jasmine was this close to declining until she was told exactly what she'd been helping out with. Apparently the exercise area was still unprepared for the many students who were surely rearing to go train themselves and much of the equipment was either untested for quality or still packed up altogether. When she heard this, Jasmine had to help out. She really did want to see what opportunities Yuuei was ready to provide for its students in terms of training. And so Jasmine, dressed in her casuals, namely a leather jacket, a golden shirt, denim short shorts, knee-high socks and boots, had finally arrived to Yuuei after-hours, wondering if her classmate was already there. She lifted her aviators above her eyes and flicked the light on as she entered the training area, whistling to herself at the training equipment strewn about everywhere, several unpacked boxes in one corner or another. One part of her was giddy, another a little annoyed. "This is going to be a long night," she spoke, more so to herself than anybody else, as she waited for her partner in crime to arrive. Rin Kurama

WORD COUNT: TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy Yet another assignment that she had been unable to say no to. Exactly how and why Rin had been the target for these assignments, seemed fairly obvious, even to herself. The girl was small, timid, didn't complain much and was very unlikely to give them a no when asked to assist. So when the first task had been properly completed, she was simply given another. On top of the regular activities done with classmates, Rin had also been running errands for whoever needed them. It had become almost routine at this point. Hopefully it wouldn't last, and she could find some room to have a breather. Having just been at the computer room, assisting one of the teachers setting up several configurations, Rin's energy reserve for the day was running at dangerously low levels. It was with a tired groan that she made her way into the training facilities for the final task of the day. Even if she should've been aware that another female was going to be assisting with this task, Rin had completely forgotten. So, when the lights were already on and a blonde female was standing around, looking very annoyed, it took a few moments for the raven haired girl to snap back to her senses.
Rin was wearing the school uniform, as mostly everyone were at this point. The white shirt, with the red tie, with the grey uniform. The green skirt hanging loosely over her hips. Looking at Jasmine with a quiet look, Rin gave her greetings. "My apologies. I had completely forgotten I wasn't sent here alone... Hopefully it won't take us too long to finish." Stepping over closer, Rin gave a short bow of respect before Jasmine. Rin then began sifting through some of the equipment, trying to scope out exactly how big of a task was ahead of them. There were other places the girl needed to be, so she couldn't stay beyond the regular end-time of school. If anything remained, it would simply have to be done tomorrow. Coming home late meant that her father woudl flay her alive, he had made that much clear when speaking of how nonsensical being a heroine truly is! Clearing her throat, her eyes returned to meet Jasmine's, as s he attempted to give a soft introduction. The girl's voice was soft, quiet. It was obvious that if Jasmine wasn't interested in smalltalk, Rin wasn't going to complain at some silence. A very meek and timid girl, she was...
"My name is Kurama Rin... Who might you be?" Immediately after the introduction, Rin turned to one of the cardboard boxes, opening it and having a look inside. Jasmine was so much taller than herself. In fact, almost everyone at Yuuei seemed unreasonably tall. It made her feel incredibly small. Given how things had been going for most of the day, she also felt incredibly weak. Keeping eye contact with Jasmine was out of the question, but Rin still did her absolute best to be polite, kind and openminded.

- Questionable Endeavors - " Captain's drunk, your world is Titanic. Floating on the funk, so get your groove on " Blinking several times, Jasmine turned to the girl who had arrived a little late. A lilac gaze leveled the shorter female, the corners of her lips twisting up into a small smile. She watched as the girl gave a short bow; that was Japanese tradition, right? Kurama Rin... if she remembered correctly, Japs gave their family name first, so her first name would've been Rin. And, as far as she remembered, they preferred calling someone they didn't know on a personal level by their family name. Jasmine wasn't much for traditions, but she respected other peoples' choices. And, honestly, she didn't want to somehow offend a classmate, more so a cute one. "Nice to meet you, Kurama... san?" Shit, she really couldn't remember how the honorifics went but she was... probably accurate? Whatever. Rin would probably correct her if she wasn't. "Jasmine Noir. Jaz is fine." Tossing her jacket to the side, Jasmine walked up to Rin to check out the box she had opened. It was filled with dumbbells and all sorts of other training crap that was undoubtedly going to be heavy. Heaving a rough sigh, she reached in and began pulling them out one by one, decidedly choosing to get the heavier ones out first. "Leave the heavy lifting to me. I got this." She said with a breath, "How did you get roped into this, anyway? Doesn't seem like weightlifting is really your thing, no offense." Rin Kurama

WORD COUNT: TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy With how things progressed it became very clear very quick that Jasmine, just like all the boys out in the field, treated Rin almost as if she was an irreplaceable vase that was going to break when put under pressure. Perhaps that was simply the atmosphere that the girl had to her. Fragile, useless, though as far as she was aware she wasn't really one to complain or whine about things, just doing what was neccesary. Perhaps it was simply that she was incredibly tiny. Nodding her head quietly in response to the other girl. "Jaz-san it shall be. Pleasure to meet you." It was a soft acknowledgement of what they were going to call each other, Rin offering Jaz a soft smile before returning to the box. Without getting into any kind of argument over the distribution of workload, Rin simply began picking out the less-heavy workout equipment from the cardboard box. Arguing when the other girl was in fact doing her a favor seemed pointless. Looking at the cardboard, it was somewhat impressive that the cardboard box had been able to withstand the weight of the equipment. Combined there were for several hundred kilos in each of the boxes, and they were stacked on top of each other to conserve space. While unpacking, she slowly shifted her direction of view back to Jaz. It was a simple question that left the ravenhaired girl's lips. A question which she had asked most of the individuals she had been paired with today, but also the question that by far interested her the most. "Jaz-san, why did you choose to join Yuuei? Why did you choose to educate yourself as a heroine?" A short break was had, as the two girls had a little conversation.
Clearing her throat, the girl soon shifted her attention to Jaz, as the two of them continued to unbox training equipment. Jaz was curious as to how Rin kept getting roped into things. Especially given that she didn't seem like the workout type. A fair assumption, she'd suppose... "I'm not quite sure. One of our teachers has been asking me all day to help with small projects like this one. The computer room, cleaning windows, all sorts of things. Not quite sure why..." Rin sighed softly, placing a pair of hand-weights down next to the pile of equipment. Looking at it, the girl scratched her cheek. Their assignment was to check whether this equipment was any good to be used for training purposes, but truth be told, Rin had very little experience when it came to workout equipment. Most of these things she wouldn't have the faintest idea of how to use. The rowing machine setup made sense, the cycle and treadmill made sense. Most of the rest was completely foreign territory.
"Jaz-san. Do you have any experience with workout equipment?.. I'm not sure I'm the best test candidate for such things.. Most of my workout has been situps or pushups.." Rin tried to explain, clearly somewhat embarassed. However, when the girl spent most of her time locked in her room reading books, she didn't have any fancy equipment if she desired a workout. As such, most of the exercise she attained from home was very, very basic. Even her nutrition wasn't the greatest. "If not, I suppose we'll just explain that most things, at the very least, weren't broken or in bad shape. At least to me these things seem quite okay."

- Questionable Endeavors - " Captain's drunk, your world is Titanic. Floating on the funk, so get your groove on " San...? she thought, a little perplexed. She wasn't used to being called something like that, nor did she think it was really necessary, "You can drop the honorific. Just Jaz is fine," she said, waving her off with a light chuckle. Her next question caught her a little off-guard. Jasmine hummed, taking a little while to think about her answer, "I... Yuuei was my way out of New York. It wasn't something I did specifically to become a hero, but... I want to become stronger and go back there one day. To clean the streets up so no other kid would ever have the childhood I had, you know?" It wasn't a thought out answer, per se, but definitely an honest one. "What about you? Any grand reason for your choice of studies?" Jasmine listened to what the other girl said, blinking cluelessly a couple of times. A chuckle later left her, "Probably because they know you won't say no, dummy," she said, reaching out to gently flick the girl on the forehead. Lifting out another set of weights out of the box, Jasmine stood up straight and heaved a breath after having set them on the floor. She perked up at Rin's next statement and turned to face the girl. She then hummed, looking at all the boxes strewn about everywhere, "Nah," she replied, shrugging. "They never let us into gyms back in NYC so this is my first time seeing crap like this outside of the commercials you'd see on TV," she explained, scratching the back of her head. "How about we first get all of this stuff out of the boxes so we can organize them and then think about what we can do for a quality check, yeah?" As she said this, Jasmine opened up another box, filled to the brim with filling paper to make sure the equipment wasn't damaged somehow. "Hey you mind bringing over that empty box over there so we can use it for all this excess paper? The place is gonna look like a mess otherwise." Rin Kurama

WORD COUNT: TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy It sounded weird to Rin, at least on the surface level. Jasmine spoke about it being her ticket out of New York.. but as far as Rin knew, there were several beginning schools for heroism, even in the US. Travelling to Japan from America certainly wasn't as far as some of the Europeans had gone, however it still sounded slightly strange. Especially since the girl was speaking Japanese so seemingly fluent. "How did you learn our language?.. If you don't mind me saying, I could hardly tell you were foreign from your dialect." Continuing the unboxing, the girl was already very aware of putting things in piles, depending on their usage. Weights were mostly put in one place, while barbells of different sort were put elsewhere. They weren't heavy enough that unboxing them one at a time was causing her any kind of issues, but at the same time she had been doing physical work almost the entire day...
"My reasons for joining Yuuei?... I suppose I had a small taste of what being a heroine would be like. The sensation I felt helping someone else. I knew what I wanted to be.." Rin was speaking very quietly of her motivations, figuring that to others, it must've sounded ludicrus or inane. It had been at the Tokyo hospital. Often times, the girl went by there to donate blood. Knowing that her quirk gave her blood properties that were highly useful to a hospital, her body also got more and more used to losing blood and replenishing. It was training and charity mixed together into one. However, typically after having donated, she'd wander around the children's wing of the hospital. Of course they girl wasn't allowed to simply go where she pleased, but some of the children she was allowed to visit. Sitting there, talking to the children, a small boy had thanked her. Thanked her for easing up his loneliness, thanked her for donating blood and saving lives, thanked her for being his hero. The exchanged had moved Rin strongly. A sense of worth had briefly welled up within, despite how worthless she felt in her everyday life. It was such a strong emotion. So when Yuuei opened up as an option, she hadn't hesitated for even a moment.
Having spaced out for a moment, thinking of the past, it was Jasmine's voice that managed to wrestle her from her mindlessness. "Oh, yeah, sure, sorry.." Rin rattled off quickly, placing the weight she was currently carrying into a pile with the others. Then hopping over, seemingly embarassed for having spaced out on her work comrade, she brought the empty cardboard box and began cleaning out the paper.. "...Anyway. Jaz, what are your first impressions of Yuuei? Is it as you expected it would be?" It was a question that Rin had asked herself several times during the day. To be fair, Yuuei was one of the first schools of heroism, so it was hard to expect anything in reality... That being said, it did seem like an ordinary highschool in many regards. Except for the borderline physical torture training...
For a few moments though, the girl had let down her guard. These small, normal exchanges between herself and Jaz came and felt rather natural. It wasn't often that Rin got to speak normally to anyone. It wasn't often that Rin got to feel like she belonged. Perhaps it was because Jasmine came from overseas herself. Perhaps it was something else entirely. One thing was for certain, Rin enjoyed being able to talk and be social, without feeling like a freak.

- Questionable Endeavors - " Captain's drunk, your world is Titanic. Floating on the funk, so get your groove on " Jasmine huffed as she lifted a barbell out of one of the boxes and began assembling a bench press, looking at the manual to figure out which screw went where. Shit, she didn't think they'd have to actually assemble the stuff. A hum left her, eyes rising to meet Rin's, "Hmm? Oh. Uh... I had a year of Japanese language and culture drilled into me before coming here," she said with a nervous chuckle as she rubbed the back of her head, "New York is full with people who speak different languages and stuff and I kind of had to learn several of them growing up. Guess that just ended up making me good with languages?" she explained, shrugging. Even though she was pretty good at speaking it, writing/reading was still an issue. There was still a pile of books she had to read back in her dorm but, well, she didn't really like to spend time there. The place was just so lonely.
Looking over the manual again, Jasmine was happy the thing had an explanation in English. A bolt here, a screw there... perfect. Looking over the bench, she nodded to herself before placing the barbell on top of the supports, flashing Rin a grin and a thumbs up. "We'll test how good I am with manuals later."
Going back to throw all the paper into their designated trash box, Jasmine listened intently to Rin's explanation, realizing that that wasn't too far from her own reasoning, "That's a respectable reason," she supplied, "helping people is the essence of what a hero should do, y'know? That's what a hero should be, if that makes sense. At least that's what I think." "First impressions? Let's see..." she thought on it for a little while. Did she have any first impressions? "I couldn't tell you, really. I still have that one kid looking up girls' skirts in my head, clouding anything concrete," she said half-jokingly, "but honestly the place seems... intriguing. Normally I'm used to being around people who either don't have quirks or are abused because they have them so at the very least this is a nice change of pace? I don't know. I'm still getting used to it and it's been... difficult," she explained, finding herself to be uncharacteristically honest. She wondered why that was. Something about Rin made Jasmine think she could trust her, which was a rather wild assumption seeing as how she barely knew her. "But what I can say is this: the place sure does look like it bit more than it can chew," she said, looking over the boxes that remained, the sheer number of them making her sigh. She popped open another box and looked inside, smiling when she saw a variety of jump ropes and other cardio equipment. "Tell me, Rin," she began, absentmindedly called her by her first name as she dove into the box. "You don't mind me calling you Rin, right? What do you think about this whole official hero thing? Personally? I think this takes away more than it gives back, really. It's like... there's people like you who want to do the right thing because they want to help people. That's what a hero is supposed to be, I think. And then there are people who'd go for being a hero for the fame and fortune. There's nothing particularly wrong with that, but I feel like it's a bit... shallow?" Rin Kurama

WORD COUNT: TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy Rin had assembled a series of hand-weights, assembling them only to make sure that every bolt, every weight and what not was accounted for and functioning properly. Using weights such as these had never been one of her pastimes. Holding them in her hands felt foreign. Getting in better physical shape was a natural process. To carry victims out of a burning building, one had to have the strength to complete such a task. In many ways, all the students here, needed to be capable of fulfilling the duties of firemen, police officers and more. It was beginning to dawn on her exactly how complicated the task of becoming a heroine may in fact be. "It may be. Coming here proves though, that helping people correctly, isn't easy."
Placing down the remaining hand weights, they were doing a decent amount of work to get the place cleaned up. The more technical things, such as assembling a treadmill, would have to be done by someone with more technical finesse than Rin herself. So the treadmill parts were simply placed over by a corner, where Rin imagined they could be assembled - mostly because there were several electrical outlets for just such a purpose.
Jasmine's first impressions were akin to what Rin felt, although there were a few absolute differences. For Rin, it wasn't the school that was biting over more than they could chew; It was her. Constantly new things were going on, constantly there were students getting hurt as a result of their or other's quirk, or even the obstacle course itself. It was a wonder to her, that she had been among the group to survive thus far. From what she had heard, several were already quitting in favor of attending normal educations. "Being around other's with quirks, using them openly, it certainly feels different to being shouted at.. or feared." Rin spoke quietly, shaking her head before she'd lull herself into a state of mind where she'd think negatively of quirks once again. Fortunately for Rin, the next question that Jasmine had to ask, was one that required some deep thought to properly answer. It was something that had been on Rin's mind, so fortunately she was reasonably prepared to answer.
"In the current system, a vigilanté who acts precisely like a hero would and should, is still liable to making mistakes. Imagine the one you try to save get hurt because of your actions, even if you had no other choice to save their life. Without a proper system in place to handle such situations, legitimate heroes would be going to jail. While others would be scared, leaving a wounded victim behind out of fear of punishment..." That was the main part of legally making heroism a thing. Policemen were allowed to use suitable force during arrests and what not. Heroes being given the same kind of priviledge to do their job, without risking immediately being sued by everyone, only seemed fair.
"...Besides, there is corruption in any system. Corrupt firemen, corrupt policement, judges, juries. Ultimately, even someone hungering for fame can be a boon to society, if they get famous rescuing and saving people. As long as society becomes better as a whole, do intentions truly matter? I'd rather be saved by a fame hungry asshole, than be stuck with villains doing to me as they pleased." Another simple fact. There were plenty of situations, horrible situations, where any kind of assistance would've been preferred to the true outcome of things. At least, such was Rin's opinion. Lastly...
"Besides, since our generation will be among the first educated heroes, we'll get to shape this system. If we work hard, Jasmine-chan, we'll make heroes something to be proud of!" Smiling warmly, those were the girl's true feelings. They may have been cringey, cliché or otherwise, but it was her desire, her dream...

- Questionable Endeavors - " Captain's drunk, your world is Titanic. Floating on the funk, so get your groove on " "Yeah," Jasmine supplied, her mind wandering to rather recent memories. The part of NYC she lived in wasn't exactly what you would call pro-Quirker to say the least. Lots of kids with quirks were discriminated against, bullied, some even killed. It was a place that spawned hate out of fear. A fear of something they couldn't possibly understand. On some level, Jasmine wondered if Rin could understand it. She didn't know much about her, but Jasmine couldn't help but feel as though the two of them belonged to different galaxies. Then again, it was the same with most of the kids in her class, she figured.Taking a quick breather, Jasmine took a few seconds to check up on how much progress they had made. A lot of the equipment was unboxed and safely stored away in certain sections of the large room they were in, yet there were still quite a few left to unpack. She wondered if they'd even be done by nightfall at this rate."That's all well and true and I totally agree, but when I asked my question I didn't mean it on such a deep level," the blonde explained, chuckling a little bit. "While, yes I do think it's better to have a system in place that separates the heroes from the villains without regards to intent, I'm just wondering whether or not this will change the hero paradigm altogether. People who don't value what a hero should stand for and just do it for the fame are likely to get hurt - worse, killed. Or get the ones they're 'trying' to save killed. If you're out there just for the fame, doing things up to a point is enough, I feel. But if you're out there to genuinely help those in need, I believe there're no brakes for self-improvement and the fostering of a community, y'know? This may sound idealistic or something like that but... this whole system is a very slippery slope, in my humble opinion. Just gotta hope that it works. Or, as you said, we gotta make it work."Jasmine-chan? That was way too cute.Chuckling to herself quietly, Jasmine walked over to the other side of the room and pried open another box. Looking inside at the contents, she took a quick pause. The girl blinked once. Twice. Then checked the delivery address on the box. Okay, it was delivered to the right place, so why the hell was it filled with Halloween costumes???
Rather confused, Jasmine looked through the contents, spotting a ton of different costumes and props. This must've been a mistake, right? No way was this Yuuei's idea of training. Dress up? What? Maybe these were costumes of the kids from other classes? Yeah, no way, unless someone was cosplaying Bambi.
Finding a certain item, Jaz got an idea. Grinning, she took out a massive green Irish top hat. Like, it was massive to the point that it would likely fit her whole head in there. Turning, she noticed that she was behind Rin. As quietly as she could, she sneaked up behind the girl... and slung the top hat over her. The thing was so massive in comparison to how thin RIn was it was likely going to fit her shoulders in there, too. Holy shit. Rin Kurama
