WORD COUNT: TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy Looking at her own watch, it was already a few minutes over the time where they were meant to start, yet Rin was still there all alone. Shrugging to herself, the girl simply dunked the brush-on-a-stick window-broom into the bucket of soap water, extending the pole and beginning to wash the window. Of all the assignments that she had gotten over the first few hours at Yuuei, this had to be one of the more boring ones. Two ladders, two buckets filled to the brim with soap water, tons of additional soap plus a hose to refill the baskets, two window-brooms for washing the windows without needing to go climbing, and a window swab on a stick. They were assigned to begin washing the windows at the dormitories. Apparently, the school funding wasn't at a level where the principal was happy s orting other ways to get things cleaned, so the students naturally had to assist wherever they could. The dorms in this section was only two stories tall, and as such, they could reach the top windows simply by getting on the ladders. Or rather, Rin could, considering her partner for this exercise hadn't arrived yet.
The girl was wearing her PE uniform for the occasion. It's blue and white colors sticking tightly to her frame, spelling out UA when read from above down. The ravenblack hair had been tied into a ponytail, and she had already begun scrubbing the windows. It seemed to bother her very little that her partner hadn't shown up just yet. With how stressful the first day was, with all the new faces, all the new names, all the questions that needed answering, being left to her own devices for a while was actually a welcome change of pace. Even so, since she was so tiny, she had to make exceptionally good use of the ladder to reach anything. Having started from the corner, the girl had begun with the windows on the raised floor. Figuring that starting from the top would have a lot of the soap water drizzle over the windows at the bottom, meaning she'd overall save time and be more efficient by managing which windows she'd begin cleaning first...
Gazing to the side, doing all of this cleaning as a pair would take a while. Doing it alone could very likely take hours. Sighing softly, there was no complaining to be had. If such an easy, simple task was going to have her mood drop, then she wasn't cut out to be a hero! That is what she told herself, as she kept washing the window with vigor. Taking everything exceedingly seriously, the windows were going to be left clean and spotless! Pristine, beautiful. The sun from the sky was reflected in the windows, making it many times easier to see any left-over spots that needed cleaning. It was warm, and the girl could feel a sweat beginning to build. Doing all of these windows was going to be beyond exhausting...

Someone was certainly aware of the fact that he was late. There were several reasons for such a situation to have befallen Maxi. First, since he had been one of the fastest to move everything to his room, he had essentially slept through the day, missing the notification that he was to wash the windows on his second day, only seeing it with barely a hour to prepare himself. Next, the windows would be of the dorms, which meant.. girl dorms. Maxi would never be as stupid as to not go prepared for such a perfect event! Hell, so much so that he forgot to dress himself while considering which of his cameras to take. Settled for a small one, which could take nice pictures, just not at the perfect quality his bigger camera could. Ah well, it was just rooms, not the girls themselves.
As he was calmly putting on his clothing, which was the U.A. PE uniform, something he adamantly disliked due to how ugly it seemed to him, he noticed that the time he should have met the other person he would work with was.. two minutes ago. He was lazy yes, but he really didn't like to anger people because of it. So much so that his eyes bugged out a bit, his quirk manifesting itself to create various clawed tendrils, dressing him up faster than what his hands ever could. Then, he opened his window and jumped out like a stylish, awesome beast of a guy, an ice slide forming under his feed so that he could slide awesomely into the ground.
Everything was going fine, until he couldn't properly break his speed and fell on his face, sliding all the way over to Rin, who felt his approach due to how colder the air began to gruadally feel around her, the sun quickly going from an unwelcome nuisance to a wonderful warmth directly from the merciful god up above quickly enough.
Meanwhile, Maxi slowly got up from the ground, rubbing his face and patting his own clothing off of dust, coughing to the side from the rough landing. So much for looking cool, it seemed. A quick glance to Rin quickly told him who he was working with: that tiny cute girl that he saw the other day helping up an equally cute, although slightly depressive student. "..Hello." He greeted her, trying to look as nice and friendly as possible. For some reason, perving on her seemed.. inadvisable at best. Well, since she was working with him and all. That did not, however, put the girls' rooms off limits. Soon, he took his own window-broom, imitating what Rin was doing, assuming that she knew exactly what she was doing, by climbing into his own ladder and starting on the other side of the windows. Meanwhile, his eyes were constantly darting around to try and find the prettiest and messiest of girl's rooms. The prettiest would obviously give a nice impression of them.. while the messiest would usually have underwear scattered around. "Sorry for being late." He said, looking to the side in slight embarrasment. Even if he was a depraved pervert and diehard anime fan, he hated making people wait.

WORD COUNT: TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy Finishing up washing the first window, the girl quietly made her way down the ladder, grabbing hold of the window swab and returning back up, trying to get the water off the glass without leaving long lines. The scent of soap was certainly pleasant, compared to the travesty that had been the obstacle course where everything smelled like sweat. Having done a little bit of poking, speaking to other students, she also knew that several had been assigned to cleaning the toilets and bathrooms. Compared to that, cleaning the windows was an almost welcome chore. Finishing up the first window on the top floor, she sighed softly to herself before beginning the same procedure on the ground-floor windows. Brushing her dark hair aside, it was at around this time that the one she had been paired with decided to show up. Knowing very little of the other students, it was only minor impressions that she had of all of them. For this boy in particular however, she had few memories from early morning. This boy had been looking oogling at skirts in an almost comical fashion. If memory served correctly, he was also one of the students to be arriving rather fancily at Yuuei. Perhaps his family had a fortune. Perhaps it was something different. However, when he first spoke, she was immediately aware that he was not native to Japan. The accent made that understanding impossibly clear.
"Greets.." Rin replied quietly, not doing much to prolong the greeting. Figuring that, since he was late, the very least he could do was to give an apology and introduce himself. Of course, that was only if he wanted to give a proper first impression. Strangely, as he passed by, the girl felt a soft chill against her skin. Shuddering, it wasn't because the cool itself was unpleasant that she felt at unease. It was because something had happened which she didn't properly understand. Looking at him with her sapphire blue eyes, it wasn't that she was judging him for having a quirk. No, she was halfway curious, halfway frightened. This cold, was it made by him..? "...Don't mind. I got lost for a few of my activities too. It happens." Rin answered in a soft, quiet tone, continuing to clean the window she had begun working on...
When it came to the dorm rooms themselves, they were all currently vacant. To be allowed to live in the dorms, several pages of paperwork had to be filled out. Rin herself was considering applying for one, as it topped living at home with her father. However, the process was going to take a few days at the very least, so for now, the rooms were completely empty. Which for him was likely fortunate, for had Rin caught him perving, there would've been a slew of questions. A few moments passed in silence, before she decided to ask. "S-so... W-who are you, and why did you.. uhm.. decide to be a hero?... and.. uhm, sorry if its personal... but why're you so cold?" Rin looked over at him as she asked her question. They were meant to get to know their classmates a little, so.. talking would be an appropriate way to get it done, right?

While he was already busying himself cleaning windows and checking the rooms, the horrible realization came to his mind: He actually had been one of the first ones to move to the new dorms, realizing that his paperwork had been filled so quickly due to the sheer experience his parents had with legalies and paperwork. This meant that there was no girl's rooms he could take pictures of. Such a realization came as a catastrophe for him, as his head lowered and a quiet, discrete sigh came off of his lips. It wasn't even gratifying work anymore, just.. work.
His thoughts were broken when the girl, as shy as she was, tried to ask him about his reason to become a hero and why was he so cold. Did she mean cold attitude or.. his quirk? Well, the most minimal amount of thinking lead him to correctly assume that it was because of his hard-to-miss quirk. What would he answer first? Both were subjects of quite a great amount of pride for him, and he really didn't know which one he liked the most.
Well, he would use the ordering on what she asked him. He looked up a bit as he slowed up a bit, humming to himself, as if looking for the correct wording to use. "I'm Maximilian Kane, a pleasure to meet you!~ Now, you wanna know why I wanna become a hero, right?" He asked a retorical question, just to let her prepare herself for his story. It wasn't that big of a deal, it wasn't like his best friend had been a hero, died and passed on that legacy to him. It was.. simple. "Well, it's really not that big, actually. Back in England, two burglars broke into my house and this really cool, fast hero busted in and beat them up good! I remember how happy and relieved me and my parents felt, so I wanted to become like them!" And that was the end of his story, reminiscing about his actual main reason to want to become a hero in the first place. To be like that vigilante, whom he affectionately called hero, and bring joy and safety to all that he could. His perversion just affected his choice of country to become a hero in. Next, came up the question of his quirk, why was he so (literally) cold. "That, well.. It's my quirk. A Mutation called "Area Zero". Passively, I'm an endothermic being to the extreme, I absorb heat from my premises into my specially adapted heart, which spreads it, along with blood, to keep my organs functioning. Then, in my active side, I am able to stabilize and solidify water, either through how cold the area around me is or through direct contact and telekinetically control the ice I create." He explained in the best way he could, knowing so much info about it due to the fact that his parents, thirsting for knowledge about their weird son so that they could deal with him properly, got him tested and analyzed thoroughly. He actually was grateful for their interest: it helped him know about himself.
But it wasn't fair that only he got to ask questions, was it now? Giving her a little bit of time to process all that information, he asked her about herself, his perversion at ease as he just let himself interact with someone else. " And who are you? What is your.. uhm, quirk?" By mistake, the idiot almost asked her three sizes. WORDS: XXX TAGS: @tag NOTES: Meep

WORD COUNT: TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy Continuing to wash the window that she had begun on, his fading excitement was audible in his voice. Possibly audible even to those that are deaf. Like taking an excited child to an open candy store, yet just as they were about to enter, the closed indefinitely sign had been hung in the door. Glancing at him, the girl wasn't quite sure what had him disappointed. Shrugging to herself, it needn't be anything more complex than being given seemingly pointless tasks at the first day of hero highschool. Perhaps mostly everyone had been expecting something different, more extravagant. Rin had a fairly good grasp on exactly what was going on. In case this whole project was going to be a disaster, the students needed to be reasonably easy to filter back into regular highschools so that they, mostly unimpeded, could continue with a regular education. That was the expectation that Rin had shown up with, therefore she had no reason to be disappointed. In fact, the girl was surprised that there had been this many tasks where the students had been encouraged to work on their quirks, showcase them to each other, utilize them for simple tasks. Smiling to herself, there were a few of the other students, especially the boys, that had been hoping for something a bit more extreme.
The boy introduced himself with excitement, vigor, power. It became very clear to the girl that Maximillian, as he introduced himself, was proud of who he was. With his short story, the background that led him down this path of heroism, it wasn't much a surprise that he was the one that had chosen to pursue this path. Piecing the puzzle together, it also became apparent that he must've had very supportive parents. Being a foreigner, accepted to a completely new type of institution - a Hero Academy, wasn't easy. The paperwork and professionalism behind the feat must've been extraordinary. It wasn't something that a highschool student, especially not a first year, would be capable of passing on their own. So little was actually shared, yet so much information was gained. Then came the quirk explanation. It was both extraordinary, yet also terrifying. Spreading something quirk related through the very core of one's being - the heart - couldn't be entirely risk free. The girl knew, because her blood was connected to every corner of her body. A single mistake in handling it could lead to serious side-effects or even death. Still, the potential for his quirk was undeniable. "Both cold and kinesis? That's pretty awesome..."
Spaced out for a few moments, it took a bit for the girl to register that the question was bounced directly back at her. The boy wasn't asking much about her reasoning for being a hero, he wasn't asking for her name either, so keeping the introduction short meant that she wouldn't have to bore him with her life. Afterall, it was a pretty standard one. "Uhm.. My name is Kurama, Rin... My quirk allows me to transfer nutrients through my body at a faster rate. Essentially it gives me a few bonuses, mainly increased stamina, so I don't get tired... Compared to yours, it's quite a boring quirk.." The girl spoke in a soft tone, barely looking at him as she spoke. Sharing information regarding herself was always a touchy subject, especially because she hadn't shared what her quirk truly was. Not with anyone that didn't absolutely have to know, meaning mainly staff at Yuuei. Sighing softly, she was almost finished with the lower window. "...Bolt? So other countries have also started employing heroes? Fascinating. I must admit, I don't know much on the political stance of other countries... but if the hero you admire is from the UK, why'd you travel to Japan to study? Isn't that an awfully long distance?"

Getting to speak about his motives to become someone worthy of admiration and love renewed his energies and motivations, now happily cleaning the windows, knowing fully well he was doing a service to the school that would shape him into the admirable hero he always desired to be. Not only that, at least he was cleaning windows. It wasn't like he was forced to clean off clogged toilets because some sort of super-powered turd didn't get through. He shuddered to think about the fates of the poor, miserable sods. He rubbed his face and trembled a bit, not from his own cold, but by pity. Pure, unadulterated pity.
He then turned his eyes back to Rin, finding her self-deprecation over her seemingly simple quirk quite sad. Well, it wasn't as complex or powerful as his, even though that, from reading several research papers on quirks, he knew fully well that even the simplest of quirks could develop in the most interesting of ways. Still, some had more room for development than others, it was an extremely likely truth he simply could not deny. "Well, don't be so harsh on your quirk. I myself read a lot of research papers, you know? I'm sure eh.. that your quirk is way bigger than what you think! See what you got like,.. hm.. like the tip of a much bigger iceberg you have yet to see!" Cue the internal screaming over an allegory related to ice, as if he wasn't lame enough. He bit his underlip, vowing to start thinking up better allegories in the future, so that he wouldn't shame himself like this. Then, she asked why did he come to Japan. Oh no, oh god. The reason that he wanted to be a hero set him en course for one of the few schools opened around the world. His reason to come to Japan was.. way less noble. He quickly became a stuttering mess and a horrible liar, as he tried to convince her. "A-AH! Ya, like, ya know! Uh.. my parents were like, Japan has a lot of business options and, hmm.. and.. and..! And they knew there was a heroics school here and since I w-wanted to enroll in a Hero School, it became, like, obvious! Yeah." Cue the vow to improve on his lying abilities, so that he wouldn't shame himself like that ever again. He'd say he was getting a feeling of dejá vu, if he didn't know that he had just embarrased himself and vowed to improve on it.WORDS: XXX TAGS: @tag NOTES: Meep

WORD COUNT: TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy Finally finishing the first set of windows proper, Rin took a few moments to stretch her body, stepping around in place on the grass below the dorms. The boy was clearly from a different world to Rin. A world where dreams were to be pursued, hunted, followed, at almost any cost. A world where, with enough effort, everyone could truly amount to something beautiful. For Rin, that had never been the case. Almost regardless of how much effort she had put into something, she had ended up with disappointment after disappointment. Even so, the girl kept dreaming, kept pushing forward, for she knew that giving up on her dreams meant that there was very little left in its wake. Wiping off the sweat into her shirt, she took the ladder and began moving to the next set of windows. There were only six pairings in total, so if they kept up the current pace, they'd be done before long.
"I suppose we'll find out if there's more to my quirk as I go through this education." Rin replied shortly. Of course there was more to her quirk than she had told him. It just wasn't even remotely as glamorous or prestigious as the boy was imagining. No, the girl's quirk was practically a curse. A curse that she somehow had to find a way to utilize for good. Sighing softly to herself, whenever the questions were pointed at her motives and personality, she was very careful with her answers, doing her best to shifting the attention immediately back to her conversation partner. Once again, the girl had managed to find something that immediately shifted attention off of herself and onto Maximillian. So with the window opened, she didn't hesitate to keep the conversation in that direction.
Raising an eyebrow inquisitively, it was very clear that there was more going on there than he let out. However, rather than pointing out how obvious it was that he had been skirting around the question, she decided to simply shift the topic of conversation ever so slightly. "So your parents do business? What kind of business, if I may ask?" This little bit of information he shared had confirmed it. Max was the one that had arrived in a somewhat fancy ride this morning, taking a bit of attention for himself even before classes or introductions truly began. Getting to know a bit more of her classmates was only natural. Sighing softly, the girl began speaking quietly on what her motivations for being a hero were. It was something that she reluctantly shared, even if it to her was rather personal information. Mostly because it related to the true nature of her quirk.
"I uhm... I do volunteer work at Tokyo hospital, whenever I have the time... S-sometimes I get to talk with some of the children there. One of them spoke of heroes and villains, holding action figures to his chest. How cool and awesome they were, even if scary. In a strange twist, he said I was his heroine.. F-for always coming by when he was having a rough time, cheering him up, saving his day.. What that tiny boy made me feel, is why I came here. Because I find pride in helping others.." It was the honest truth. Of course, Rin hadn't explained that donating blood were saving children's lives, and that that was the main motivation behind the child speaking as he did. However, the feeling of saving someone else... Rin had only tasted it once and had immediately gotten addicted.

Maxi himself was actually quite tireless in his work, even though he disliked working in general. To his twisted perception, what he was doing was preparing him to be a hero by humbling him up: working on something as simple as cleaning windows was the sign of being a humble person. To remind him of his origins, of who he truly is: just another person. Although, in his opinion, he was just another person that happens to be smarter than many other.. people. It wasn't bragging even, just a fact. He had better parents than many, a better education than many and happened to just be born as someone who can solve problems and learn from his mistakes quite quickly.
Everyone had their value, an undeniable truth that he always had in his mind, as to not let his own confidence get way too far. Finally, his mind snapped back to reality, exactly to what he was doing: cleaning windows. Focusing back on cleaning the windows instead of going through his life philosophy while stupidly staring at them, he turned to Rin, chuckling. "Legal Business. They run a Law firm as their main business, though they regularly invest in businesses they see potential in." He explained, listening well to her heart-warming story. Quite a much better reason for her to being a heroine than himself, although he didn't exactly want to confess it.
Wanting and having to are completely different things and, to stay faithful to himself, he couldn't help but confess it. " My reason for being a hero is valid, though yours is poetic in of itself. I hope you can become a hero, Ms. Rin!" He spoke as educatedly as he could, having learned that from his mother's side. To respect women and treat them just as he'd treat any other man of respect. Though, from his Dad's side, he had learned to respect their physical side, which eventually gave him his perverse side.WORDS: XXX TAGS: @tag NOTES: Meep

WORD COUNT: TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy Rin was very quickly running out of windows to wash. Fortunately the area that she herself and her companion, Maximillian, were given, didn't span all too far. Simply being out there washing windows, made it very clear. Regardless of what road they took to become heroes, they would still remain humans. People. It was strangely humbling to come to a hero academy and be given regular chores that most current day academies likely hired staff to take care of. Brushing a bit of sweat off of her brow, she listened to his reply. It turned out that his family were in the money, big time. Offering him a soft smile, there wasn't anything judgmental about her behavior. Truly, Rin was happy that his life was shaping up in a manner that he could be proud of. Situations at her own home weren't anywhere near such perfection. There wasn't any support to be garnered for her desire to seek out a profession as a hero. There wasn't any monetary foundation that she could stand upon, no experience that could help her get anywhere. When it came to family ties, Rin may as well have been entirely on her own.
"I'm guessing you'll have any easy time understanding all the law stuff we're bound to learn here at Yuuei." There was a very brief pause, Rin biting her lower lip, before returning to the soft smile. "I hope you can t-teach me some of it when the t-time comes, m-maybe?... I'm sure such talent will help make our class one of the stronger!"
Breathing softly, the girl returned to ground level, stretching herself to her fullest length. Exhaustion was beginning to kick in. Climbing up and down the ladder with water and other tools in tow was relatively tough work. Perhaps that is exactly why the equipment here was so outdated. Even something as simple as washing windows assisted in building up their physique. Either that, or Rin was just needlessly overthinking the cumbersome activity of washing the windows.
"R-right. I think we're mostly done here... I'll p-pack up and return to classes... W-was a pleasure meeting you, Max-san. I'll be seeing more of you at the studies..." Rin said in an acknowledging tone, placing her hands on either hip, looking at the windows with a content smile. After asserting to herself that everything was in order, the girl offered Max a short and polite bow. Then towing the bucket of water and tools over her shoulder, the girl began moving to place the tools back where they belonged and move on towards the next class.

Indeed, Maxi noticed that their work was essentially all done, while they had been talking to each other the entire time. He genuinely had fun talking to such a calm, relatable young heroine of a girl like her. After everything, he really respected her. It took courage for someone so shy and with an apparently "weak" quirk, something he vehemently didn't believe in, decided to be a hero. With such a noble reason too!
Though, one little thing she did after talking about him being able to understand law stuff better than others got him thinking. Even if very brief, he saw her biting her lower lip in nervousness. His side that desired to know, his side that observed began theorizing about why would she do that. Only to conclusions came to mind: it was either due to the mention of having successful parents that made her feel like that, which would mean she didn't exactly have successful parents or, the alternative one was the fact that he understood things better than others, which would be a problem of self esteem.
Maybe it was both? Maybe it was none. Maybe he was just overthinking that like he overthought everything. Sighing, he nodded. "I guess you're right, I definitely hope so. In case you need anything, just ask me, I'll teach you everything I know." He usually would have bragged a bit about the fact that he could understand things in general much better than most, though, he didn't want to risk hurting the feelings of someone he genuinely liked.
Without another word, he just nodded and bowed back to Rin, figuring that it was the most educated manner of agreeing with her, then left off with a wave, off to buy more Ice Cream. Ice Cream with a side of thinking about someone you just met is an unlikely combination that tends to work for him. [EXIT] WORDS: XXX TAGS: @tag NOTES: Meep
