the nurse is in I can’t help it, I want to make you smile That’s… Still not cutting the mustard, is it? Those vibrant fuchsia locks tucked behind her ears as she peered into the dual lenses of her microscope, Sophie Sequoia let out a small sigh as she watched that by now so familiar vision of an effect dissipating from the sample within her petri dish. Those strange microscopic particles that she had first witnessed when only a little girl seeming to fizzle out and evaporate like bubbles vanishing from the surface of a glass of lemonade as an almost wholly water-like solution was being scrutinized at the cellular level, the young woman barely needed to glance at her clock to know that she had spent only five minutes quietly staring at this sample since she had practically been counting the seconds, hoping that her latest little additive might have extended that time. However, it had not.
Looks as if Type 83 is, like the previous 82, something of a bust… Pinching her nose lightly and closing her eyes after taking in the macroscopic universe again for the first time in several minutes, Sophie let out a little sigh before showing off her blue irises again and looking down at the small notepad she had resting on the desk next to her microscope and picking up a pencil. Type 83 demonstrates no noticeable detriment to presence of Vitae Particles, but also does nothing to extend their lifespan. Copying out a mental note onto her notebook below a chain of chemical names that most people had likely never heard of, Dr Sequoia’s brow knotted just a little and her lips pursed a tad as she wrote of yet another disappointing result.
Looking at the point she had just made before letting out yet another sigh and flipping her notebook shut, after stowing it in a drawer in her desk the young woman rolled her chair back a little way before standing up and slipping her hand underneath her microscope to retrieve the sample she had been observing before moving a little deeper into her office to clean it away. Moving past the row of hospital beds that were tucked away behind a light, pink coloured curtain that she had chosen when moving into this mix of an office and sick bay, though she felt a tinge of frustration at her repeated failure Sophie still carried a small humming tune as she moved over to the sink and tipped the small watery solution into it.
Turning on the tap with the wave of her hand thanks to the ‘mod cons’ her office had and squirting some anti-bacterial cleaning solution into one of her palms, after running her small, disk-like dish under the warm water to rinse it off she placed the item into a small, microwave-sized machine nearby that resembled a dishwasher. In truth a sterilizer that once she turned it on would vaporize all but the glass items she placed into it, Sophie nudged it’s door most of the way closed with her elbow before setting to work on cleaning up her hands, just in case. Continuing her little murmuring melody as she kneaded the soap she had squirted onto her other hand in between her fingers and worked those crease ridden places above and below the joints in her digits, Doctor Sequoia remembered her days at Med School and in Hospitals every time she cleaned her hands, working in a fashion that looked like she was scrubbing for surgery due to how habitual and honestly hygienic such practices were.
Type 84 will have to wait though… Pulling a few sheet-like paper towels from her dispenser next and wiping what moisture remained on her skin away, Sophie twisted her head from side to side to try and relieve a little of the stiffness that being hunched over a microscope for so long before pushing her finger back through her tresses and shaking out her locks gently. What hair had been tucked behind her ears and some strands that had been caught by the black ribbon that ran over her crown and tied at the nape of her neck fell loose, with many of them deciding to hang over her right eye.
“There are more important matters than hobbies on my horizon…” Resuming her ‘usual’ more casual appearance as she stood in her office in a champagne pink ruffled blouse and rippling black pencil skirt, the campus nurse who technically might have been better deemed a doctor glanced toward her clock again and saw that her next appointment was likely soon to appear and so scooped up the pristine white lab coat she had hung on her chair and wrapped it around herself. Wanting to look professional and show a hint of authority, even if in a gentle and supportive way in this next meeting, Sophie smoothed out her ivory duster and before heading over to the fridge for a nice fresh mineral water she could chug down in advance. After all, she didn’t want to show off too many of her bad habits in front of someone she felt oddly keen to give a good impression…

WORD COUNT: TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy It had been a few weeks since Rin was last there, at the nurses office. At the time, Rin hadn't even gone there entirely on her own behalf. Rather Rin had gone there on behalf of a classmate, the girl which had become Rin's roommate, Jasmine Noir. A tussle with a quirk user had resulted in Jasmine getting stung a few hundred times by hornets. It had been a horrible sight to behold. The stings were abundant. Rin knew that hornets had venom in their sting. It could've potentially been many times worse when the stings had come from a quirk. Even so, despite knowing all of this, Jasmine had refused to go see the nurse. Afraid that the knowledge of a violent quirk-encounter could compromise her position at Yuuei. Get her expelled for not following protocol. So, if Rin was to keep Jasmine's trust, yet still acquire an antidote for hornet stings, there was only one option.
Rin had gone out and knocked, rattled a hornets nest. The stings of the angered swarm had been relentless and painful. Although Rin had done her absolute best to contain the stings to areas where the nurse wouldn't find other secrets, the hornets had had other plans. So, when Rin finally arrived at the nurses office, the entire left side of the girl's body had countless stings. Even so, as Rin introduced herself, there was a soft smile on her face. The girl was clearly used to pain, even horrible pain. The girl dealt with the pain by smiling. Hiding it all behind a calm and sweet exterior.
Sophie had seen things. Marks left on her body like the spoils of war. Despite this, there hadn't been much talk of it. Through conversation, Rin had eventually explained that the one truly suffering from hornet stings was her roommate, and that she had been afraid of the consequences, if the stings weren't treated. Sophie had let Rin off at the time, on one condition. Return for a proper checkup this month. At the time, Rin had thought nothing special of it. Happily agreeing, the raven haired female had been on her way...
Weeks had passed. The month was coming to an end, and characteristically, Rin couldn't wait till the very last moment. Everything had to be done appropriately before the deadline, otherwise it tended to stress her out. So on the 27th of May, Rin carefully knocked the door to the nurses office. Wearing her school uniform, it remained spotless. Since their last meeting, a few things had transpired. First, there had been an incident at Rin's home. The girl's father had been picked up by the group of villains he had smuggled wares for. Then, at their hideout, someone had called the cops. Enzo had gone to jail for smuggling - and when he was going to be sentenced, it seemed unlikely he'd get off with anything less than three years. So, Rin had officially moved in to Yuuei with what little possessions were truly hers...
"Miss Sophie?... A-are you there? It's Rin.. Y-you wanted me to come by for an appointment?" Rin called quietly, waiting patiently. There was all the chance in the world that miss Sophie wasn't currently in the office. Afterall, individuals with healing quirks were often requested around the hospitals. Just like Rin was requested to come by and donate blood whenever she could.

the nurse is in Don't think I'll ever let you suffer in silence “It’s good to see you, Rin~!” The little rap that the timid teen gave her door making Sophie jolt as she slurped down a little more water, after stuffing her bottle back into the small fridge she had in her office, the school nurse showed off her enthusiasm for the upcoming meeting by practically crossing the room in a single bound and pushing her door open with a broad grin. Usually the type to invite people into her office from her chair in order to provoke a kind of casual atmosphere, a little of the professional anxiety that Miss Sequoia had been feeling shone through as she beamed at the girl, hoping that she might put that bit of paranoid worry at her observation might be put to bed.
“Come on in, honey, I’m glad you stopped by!” Perhaps a little perkier than she might have usually been given how she had been waiting for this meeting for the past couple of weeks or so, the school nurse had been like a coiled spring or perhaps even a panther waiting to strike and now saw her chance to release that tension that had steadily built up. Obviously the second metaphor a little off since she didn’t want to prey on this girl and rather keep her safe rather than harm her, as Miss Sequoia stepped aside to let the young woman in and when she had made sure to lock the door behind her to prevent interruption, she beckoned toward one of her comfier, cushioned chairs that she had near her desk for her young appointment to sit in before slipping over to the kettle that she had near her sink and fridge and filled it up.
“Can I get you a drink, Rin? I have several kinds of tea or coffee if that’s what you prefer?” Approaching a delicate matter and wanting the youngster to feel like she could relax around her, after turning her kettle on, Sophie opened a small drawer and pulled out a couple of mugs carrying designs of American comic book heroes before setting the on the desk on front of her. “And some cold drinks as well, water and a few fizzy or fruity drinks if that’s more to your taste?” Flashing another grin to the girl as the kettle began to hum as heat filled the liquid within it, Miss Sequoia lightly nudged her fridge with her toe as she waited expectantly for the answer of her potential patient, rolling out a welcome mat for a youngster that she hoped she hadn’t made the right guess about. After all, child abuse was no easy matter to broach…

WORD COUNT: TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy It was a strangely welcoming atmosphere, as Rin stepped into the nurses office wearily. Normally, whenever there was to be a checkup on the girl's health, her father had made sure to give all sorts of restrictions and regulations. That is, if Rin was even allowed to go in the first place. Of course, the man was well aware of what would happen if anyone found out the abuse he had put onto his daughter. Either case, having appointments with general healthcare wasn't something Rin felt overly comfortable with. Something that likely showed in the way the girl waddled up to take a seat, cautiously, almost as if the seat would bite her rear if she moved too quickly, or perhaps it would swallow her whole if she sat down too comfortably. Rin was on edge, like a cornered animal, uncertain of exactly what was going to happen. Also because, Rin had somewhat of a strange request to Sophie. A request that only added to the nerves of the young female.
Sophie truly was an endearing woman. A pleasant voice, tender words, almost as if the act of communicating properly could assist a mending process. Rin figured, with what little knowledge she had, that a comfortable patient healed faster than a stressed one. That much seemed to be biology and make sense. So, the raven-haired youth did her best to calm down. "Thank you, miss Sophie... I'd like, uhm.. any kind of soft drink. Juice, soda. I'm a little low on sugar... Thanks." Focussing onto her own fingers, which she had placed on the edge of the table, the girl began gently sorting her nails. Keeping busy, keeping occupied, it was the most surefire way to stay calm. Flipping over the sentences in her mind, Rin was attempting to structure it and take the initiative. Also slightly because she feared the motive behind Sophie wanting to see her again...
"Can I tell you a small story, of why I wanted to be a heroine, and perhaps ask something, that I hope you can help me with?" Rin was still looking directly at her own fingers, carefully cleaning her nails as if this task was the most important one in the world. Waiting for confirmation, and accepting the soft-drink if she was given any, Rin would instead being peeling at the sticker attached to the soda bottle, rather than sorting her nails. Keeping active, her nervousness was channeled into a constant, repeating action.
"My old doctor, where I got vaccinated as a kid, was the one who discovered my quirk in a blood sample. You see, I do not have an inherent blood type. Fascinated, he ran some tests with the hospital... and I was asked to donate blood ever since... Which I did, e-even if it hurt. Especially at the start." Rin had now peeled about half of the sticker off of the bottle. Continuing t o peel, she lowered her gaze to look at the bottle, shifting it around in her hands ever so slightly. It seemed to bring her peace, to fidget like this.
"After a while, I began making trips at the hospital. Specifically visiting the children's wing. A lot of the parents were busy working to pay the bills. Not all hospital treatment is equally cheap, unfortunately... I made a few friends. Specifically a boy with a lizard mutation. Hideaki." Rin smiled softly at mentioning his name. Still fixated on the bottle, it was almost as if the girl was not speaking to Sophie. Rather, addressing the story to the soda bottle. It made it easier to talk without panicking.
"Hideaki had his favorite villain. A guy stealing from banks, giving to the poor. Ironjaw, he called him. Hideaki would often speak of how awesome quirks were. The boy was in hospital, suffering with leukemia.. Being that he was a lizardman, blood transfusions weren't effective. He was in steady decline... but, my blood was different. It adjusted to his body. It gave him a chance. Hideaki knew..." Rin smiled brightly, shaking her head from side to side as she was remembering the occurences. "One day, Hideaki was speaking of his favorite hero. An angelic being, who could take pain and fear away. A hero who could make even villains into better people, rescuing everyone. It wasn't a hero I had heard of, so when I got back home from the visit, I checked. I couldn't find anything, so I was mildly confused."
Rin finally stopped fidgeting with the bottle, placing it carefully on the table in front of herself. "When I came back a week later, Hideaki had been released from hospital. Seeing his bed empty was one of the best moments. Hideaki had insisted that I was given a drawing he had made... Here..." The fidgeting had stopped specifically so that Rin could pull something out of her pocket to show to Sophie. It was a drawing, very child like, made with the cheap kind of crayons one could find at the hospitals. It had a figure drawn in red, with a pair of beautiful wings. Underneath it read; My Crimson Angel, Rin. The paper had been folded and unfolded a thousand times. Whenever the girl felt she couldn't go on. Whenever Rin met a bump in the road. This was her inspiration to continue. To push beyond her own limit and become a better person. "Hideaki had made me his hero. Not because I was strong, nor awesome.. but because I rescued him."
Rin slowly rose from her seat, looked Sophie in the eyes before bowing respectfully. It was such a vulnerable and honest gesture. It showed how passionate Rin was for the path that she had chosen. Voice quivering, it was difficult for her to ask anything of anyone... but this was not something she could learn on her own. "That is why I wanted to be a heroine. To rescue. Heroes, villains, vigilantes, civilians.. Any soul who has a hole in their heart. So please, I beg you, will you teach me medicine, Sophie-sama?"

the nurse is in it breaks my heart to see you frown Low on sugar…? Having scanned the medical report on young Miss Kurama a few times since meeting her and not seen anything in particular regarding incidents of hypoglycaemia or related conditions, Sophie made a mental note to follow up on such a notion either during or after the examination as she delved into her fridge and rooted through some water, purple stuff, even some Sunny D before finding what she wanted to give to the girl.
“Here you go, generally Cola has the most sugar content of most carbonated drinks… Though it’s not great for your teeth hopefully it will provide you with a nice little sugar boost, if you don’t dislike it that is!” Offering a glass bottle that glistened with moisture thanks to how cool the fridge had kept it before being relieved of that cold confine, the nurse trotted back to her table and began to prepare her own drink of some nice fragrant tea and found herself surprised when it was her patient who began asking the questions.
“Heh, well I’m happy to listen to anything you have to tell me, Rin?” Smiling warmly at the blossoming young woman who sat in the chair only a few feet away even if she was a little confused and curious as to why Rin might have wanted to mention a story, Sophie nodded at the girl and hoped it proved fruitful toward either confirming or alleviating the suspicions she had. However, as she listened, while it did not suit that particular requirement she did find herself feeling rather moved by the experience.
That special quirk… The ears of the young doctor perking up as her shy companion mentioned the magnificent qualities of the young woman’s blood, having seen the file on Rin she couldn’t help but feel an urge to examine and experiment with that unique and potent medical material but had decided that matters of a safety should have become her primary concern. Perhaps, had she not been given a worrying impression in regard to her first meeting then Sophie might just have asked nicely for this indigo-eyed youngster to loan her a sample or two of that miraculous substance, but for now had been more concerned with her well-being. “Heh, I’m not surprised that the hospitals were keen on the ultimate universal donor, the properties seem both fascinating and rather useful~” The kettle at Sophie’s side clicking to tell her that her water was ready, the pink haired girl smiled gently at her young charge before scooping the bearer of heated water up and filling her mug with it.
“When I was a youngster, with my quirk, the school nurse often used to ask me to come help if a pupil or someone got hurt? It’s how I got my first taste of medicine… Sounds like it was the same for you, really?” Fragrant flavours shooting up through her nose as a draft of steam rose from her receptacle and seized her sense of smell, Miss Sequoia looked upward as the ongoing story reminded her of her own youth and shared a few details that she felt overlapped between them, hoping to better foster their relationship as she scooped her own drink up and moved over to the chair where Rin was sitting. Forgoing her usual office chair and instead slipping into the other of the more comfortable chairs near the girl, as the story continued Sophie piped down a little and blew on her drink to cool it off before she could drink it.
Do we have an unexpected romance~? Smirking a little as a ‘special’ friend by the name of Hideaki was mentioned, the nurse couldn’t help but notice the little smile that her student gave as she spoke of him and her wonder at where the story was heading made her guess at romance. Really the tale having twisted and turned around enough already that Sophie did not expect it to lead to the account of abuse that she might have feared, with a quiet and observational manner she listened to the next turn that this anecdote might take for her.
Ironjaw… Sounds more like a Vigilante than Villain from the description, though there were times when the differences were rather slim. Remembering her own more active days as a quirk-using seeker of peace but unable to recall the name that Rin mentioned in any of her encounters, the former Hello Nurse grew a little more misty eyed as she thought of times that now felt a little less civilized. Seemingly a free for all where people took what they wanted and those who thought it their responsibility to stop them acted just as bad half the time, Miss Sequoia knew all too well the differences between the classifications of individuals was at times simply a matter of politics and favour, and certainly any who raided the wrong bank accounts might well be labelled as a criminal by those who saw their ill-gotten wealthy going to worthier sources. Hopefully, the support of government might do better in helping the media to resist the urge to flip-flop over the flavours of friend and foe now things were better regulated?
Angelic? As in wings… Fits a couple of people, but the powers beyond that… The brow of the blue eyed beauty knotting a little as yet another legendary figure was mentioned, much like Rin, Sophie couldn’t place such a soul. Certainly those with feathery wings and halos often being likened to the angels of old religions, the former vigilante vixen could find no soul who was particularly noted for the reformation of villains in any regard. Though, the Yokohama Vigilante scene was probably not quite the same thing as a larger place like Tokyo, so who knows?
This is… Taking the sheet that was offered to her more out of curiosity at first, it took Sophie a second to really realize what was going on in the picture. Not exactly terribly well versed in the names that the students had chosen for the heroic futures and only really realizing that the great hero to whom the story had referred was the girl in the room with her, as a slow sense of recognition in regard to the truth dawned on Sophie she felt a shiver pass through her and her eyes stung. Heart throbbing at the sweetness that the image displayed, with beads of water building up in the corners of her eyes the nurse looked up to the girl who had now stood up and before she could say anything found herself awed again.
“G-Goodness…” The wordy woman finding her vocabulary was a little lost as she looked at the stooping girl in front of her and listened to her request, Sophie lifted a hand to her mouth for a second before wiping away her tears and then gently reached out to tuck Rin’s head back up to face her as she responded. “That’s… A pretty inspiring story, Rin?” Holding out the picture that she had to assume was no doubt a treasured item for her, the pink hair of Miss Sequoia swayed as she shook her head out and tried to get a hold back on those few heartstrings that had just been tugged at.
“Naturally, with a person so determined and dedicated, it would be rather a misstep of mine to turn you away…” Letting out a small sigh and standing up too, Sophie slipped past the young girl and moved over to her desk in order to rest her slightly cooler cup of tea upon it as she turned over the request in her head. The heart of the girl obviously wanting to leap at this chance to ‘claim’ a young, kind and bright mind she could mould in the image of a healer, her mind however quickly seemed to slam the brakes onto such a suggestion for a wide variety of logistical reasons.
“I’d love to teach you how to be a doctor like me, but there might be some obstacles to that… For one I’m barely qualified myself and rather inexperienced in the field of teaching?” Turning back toward Rin and pulling her hands together now that they were free, in contrast to the confident, coquettish and capable bearing that she usually carried herself with, Miss Sequoia felt rather less assured in the matter of education. Certainly talented and able to carry out her duties in a fine fashion thanks to her training, the school nurse had barely finished her own long education and the rational part of her doubted the ease with which she could ‘distill’ the small amount of experience she possessed.
“And, perhaps more importantly than that, our principal will no doubt have mapped out how your education is to proceed in regard to heroics, and he seems unlikely to take the idea of shoe-horning in an advanced and broad topic such as medicine in a schedule that is no doubt rather stacked already?” Also concerned about how the bullish and battle focused boss of the academy might feel if she was dragging a student away from her other topics of learning or even her time for rest and reflection in order to study, as tickled by the notion of having an impressionable soul to pass what she did know along to, would it even work in a school like this? Yuuei first and foremost a school for fostering those with the ambition to become a hero rather than a healer, for certain both the principal and perhaps the association of heroes would need to approve this notion before it could ever be seriously considered.
“So, while I think it’s a wonderful idea, I fear it would show great irresponsibility to leap at such a chance without fully looking into the details of such an idea? I’m sorry if that disappoints you…” The heart of the Yuuei healer panging with pain as she felt like her pragmatic approach might well have cut at the dreams and ideals of the girl in her company, Sophie shook her head again and let out a sigh as she considered the harsh mistress that was reality. Wanting to encourage this girl as much as she could be also knowing the dangers that lay in recklessly raising her hopes, though Miss Sequoia had been rather touched by the tale she had been told in the minutes before she now found herself feeling rather dejected in it’s wake…

WORD COUNT: TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy The conversation had been slowly taking place between the two females. Of course Sophie had been replying occasionally. Rin had also heard what the older woman had to say. It was merely that, to avoid going on an enormous tangent, Rin had stuck to explaining her story and motives. Having figured that letting Sophie know her exact reasoning for wanting to learn medicine, would give Rin a higher chance of being accepted, it certainly didn't seem to have turned out that way. Strangely, this almost rejection was exactly what Rin had expected to be told when she had come here. You're too young, too inexperienced. You haven't even finished learning the basics of biology. How could you possibly be studying medicine? Besides, it could interfere with your regular studies. The words practically fit the girl's frame of expected answer. What came next may have surprised Sophie. Rather than being dejected, sad, frustrated, Rin simply smiled, nodding in agreeance with the older woman. "I thought as much. I'm young, inexperienced, chasing a desire selfishly, but.." Rin rose her gaze to meet with Sophie's. A tiny girl packed to the bursting point with determination. The words that she spoke made it absolutely clear that Rin had no intention of backing down from learning medicine. Whether it would be in her own time or with a tutor. "..I figured I'd ask, since learning from you might be easier than only reading books." Rin scratched her cheek, making a somewhat funny expression. It was the closest expression she had made to being defeated thus far.
"...I was reading about the cardiovascular system." Rin began, once again explaining her thoughts. Trying to make it clear why this path was what she had chosen for herself. "Since my quirk interacts directly with the cardiovascular system, and utilizing my quirk removes blood from my system, the more I know, the less of a risk I'd be taking when using my quirk. Knowing the signs and implications of blood loss." That much was a simple fact. For Rin to be able to have any impact with her quirk at all, whether it was by healing others or to use her blood as a weapon, the girl had to actively hurt herself. The girl had to bleed, in amounts that regular humans most certainly could not. "If I mess up, I could potentially end up killing myself... M-my quirk.." Rin hesitated for a moment. The girl's fingers grasped the cola bottle, squeezing it till her knuckles turned white. Choosing not to finish that sentence, Rin recoiled, returning to a part of the conversation that she felt more comfortable with. "..Anyway, if you cannot teach me, Miss Sophie, I'll teach myself. If nothing else, I'd appreciate being able to come by and ask questions occasionally... So I don't make stupid mistakes."
From there, Rin had nothing further to add to the requests. Messing with the bottle, uncapping it was a near hilarious process. The cold glass against her lips, the fizzling, the sweet sugary scent. The cold liquid caused her to immediately have hiccups, as she had been a little too eager to have something to drink. Cola was delicious, not something that the girl often had. The female's expression shifted towards intrigue, as a soft burp left her lips. Embarassed, the entire tension from their earlier conversation had utterly and completely vanished. It was a subject that, if Sophie wished to not speak of more, would be left entirely in the past. "E-excuse me.." From here on out, the ball would be in Sophie's court. Rin had no further agenda with this visit, nor any more distractions to keep Sophie from doing an examination.
Since the last visit, Rin hadn't been living at home for the whole duration. It was about a week ago that she had moved in with Jasmine. It meant that most of the physical marks of abuse, which her father had placed onto her skin, had begun to slowly dissipate and fade. Rather than being deep purple marks, they were now mostly blue with a tint of yellow. There were a couple of fresh purple marks, though those were easily attributed to the fact that they were at a hero school. Rin also carried several signs of being slightly underweight. With how aware she was of lacking sugar, it seemed almost strange that she didn't have a body physique closer to what doctors would recommend. The girl's body was capable of storing energy directly in her blood, rather than converting it to fat cells. It was precisely what gave the girl the ability to harden the haemoglobin and move the blood around through kinesis. However, storing energy in her blood - and in general spilling more blood than any human normally would, it drained her reserves...
The girl had series of fine white lines across her wrists. To an untrained eye, the white lines were almost invisible. To someone who had seen such scar tissue before, it was very clear what was going on. To bleed, Rin had been slitting her wrists. The lines were so thin and clean, precise and careful, that it was equally clear that it wasn't done to cause self harm. For someone to inflict wounds on themselves however, it most certainly said something about their psyche. Another interesting fact to note, may have been how Rin seemed incapable of blushing. Even when embarassed or nervous, there wasn't a single change in the color to her expression. It was even likely, that when her quirk matured, things like blue marks would be a thing of the past.

the nurse is in those big eyes make me want to give you the world “Have you thought about adding something, like a warning alarm and monitoring system, that you could wear to let you know you’re getting close to your limit?” The knot in Sophie’s brow tightening at the matter of young Miss Kurama’s possible quirk related mortality, she quietly but clearly tried to offer the girl a little solution that the extreme problem that she faced.
“There are some smart minds in the support class as I understand it, and I’ve counselled a few students to seek them out to help with negative effects of their quirks. Given the dire nature, I’d be happy to lend some of my expertise in designing something that could monitor your blood pressure or something to guage your overall loss of blood?” Concerned by any loss of blood but the simple fact being that the nature of this girl’s Quirk necessitated it, as a physician Miss Sequoia found it her duty to try everything she could to preserve every bit of health she could in her patents. Rin clearly the reckless sort who tended to put others first, though the school nurse had her reservations about continuing to allow her to use such a risky power she also knew she would have a hard time putting such a sanction into place, and hoped that at the very least she might be able to curb the worst result as much as she could.
“Listen, it’s not as if I’m refusing to teach you at all, my only concern is the level with which I could teach you? I’m cautious about raising your hopes to highly but naturally, I’d be happy to help you learn about medicine in your own time, and given how keen you are will absolutely speak to the principal to see if there might be some ‘holes’ in his schedules that might be exploited for studies that suit your ambition?” Finding the eyes of the enthusiastic youngster and looking into them with a mix of worry and encouragement, Sophie wanted to spell out that while she might have been a little firm with her reply, she wasn’t brushing the idea away at all, and simply wanted to be given the chance to better explore the possibility.
“Perhaps it might mean you have to skip a physical activity lesson or two a week to study with me but given how hard he seems to push the students at times, that might be no bad thing…” Smiling at Rin as she gently teased the Spartan methods of the man in charge and hoping that the young woman understood that she would support her as best as she could, Sophie lightly rested her hand on the shoulder of her student as a further measure of encouragement before straightening up and smoothing out her lab coat as she decided they had maybe become a little waylaid in regard to the original purpose of this meeting.
“Now, let’s see how you’re healing up, shall we?” Offering a warm and smiling gaze to the girl as she gently began to check the timid but seemingly determined damsel for what signs of her injuries remained, Sophie found herself relieved to discover that not only had her hornet stings and the bruises she had carried earlier largely faded, but there were no new ones in their place. As her little mental flag from before might have indicated, Miss Kurama was somewhat lacking in weight and the nurse found herself wondering if she might need to give her some advice and support on nutritional needs, but that was easy enough to deal with.
“Rin… These?” Put at ease for a moment by her small and minimally invasive task of rolling up the sleeves of the young woman and checking around neck and legs, it was only the sharp and scrutinizing eye of an expert that managed to spot those easily overlooked scars on the wrists of the girl that happened to be highlighted by the right ray of light. “How did you… Get these scars on your wrists?” The heart of the nurse suddenly seeming to give an explosive throb as she discovered evidence of possible self-harm or worse attempts to take her own life, panic pushed the pink haired woman into a serious and sober countenance as she looked toward the face of the femme she had been examining. Not at all aware that Rin might have needed to puncture her skin in order to enable her power’s use and some naïve part of her instead assuming she could somehow draw blood from herself without the need for such crude methods, Sophie immediately assumed the worst and felt a shiver pass through her spine at the notion of this sweet girl being involved in such dangerous business…

WORD COUNT: TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy Rin shrugged softly at the question. Having no funds, having no ability to create such an apparatus, it was never something that had crossed her mind. Rin came out of poor circumstances, even a regular watch was never afforded to her. It wasn't something that she'd openly speak about however. Sophie likely had access to her files, which would explain exactly what one could expect from Rin's household; Next to nothing. "I, uhm... Don't think thats a bad idea. I just, cannot really afford to buy such a thing." Rin spoke quietly, seeming to become a little shorter, a little meeker, with the acknowledgement that such objects were likely completely out of her price range. Rin decided to go on and explain exactly why it may not be neccessary. "B-besides, my quirk changes my appearance when it gets dangerous. First my eyes become purple, then my hair turns white. It means I'm in danger." It was almost like an inbuilt alarm system that protected the girl from going too overboard. Of course it wasn't as delicate or intricate as a beeping watch, but it remained an effective discouragement from continuing to use her quirk beyond that point.
Miss Sophie then went into explaining how she didn't want to raise Rin's hopes or anything of the sort. Indicating that miss Sophie didn't see herself as overly knowledgeable in the field, at least not enough to be a proper teacher. Either that, or Rin misunderstood what the female was attempting to say. A strange gaze met the woman from Rin, as her head was tilted slightly to the side. It was such a strange thin for the woman to say. If the woman was not confident enough in her own level, how were the students to be confident in receiving treatment from her?.. It made very little sense. "I currently know next to nothing. Even if you could only teach me how to bandage someones wounds, that would still be a lesson worth having. Besides, if you've been hired to treat the students, there should be an abundance of things you could teach me.. I'm asking for knowledge, not an education as doctor."
Shruggin quietly, the examination was slowly coming underway. Very quiet, very still, Miss Sophie was having very little movement from Rin. Last time, the girl had done her best to hide things away. This time, having nothing significant to hide, Rin was far more relaxed and calm about the whole situation. That is, right until miss Sophie turned the girl's wrists and made a grimace. The scar tissue had the woman reacting negatively almost immediately. For Rin, this was simply how things had to be. To be a heroine, one had to use their quirk effectively. To use her quirk, Rin had to bleed. Bleeding for Rin had bee neasiest and least painful when it had been cuts at her wrist. "...When I practice my quirk, I have to bleed... S-so I cut my wrists.." Rin's tone indicated very clearly that it wasn't a solution she herself was super pleased with. Of course the girl had thought of other options over time. Most of them were beyond her skill of medical expertise to impliment, others too expensive. So, until this point, Rin had resorted to simply cutting. It was fast, effective, but came with the downside of hurting herself. Something that had taken its hold of her psyche. Perhaps it was now clear to Sophie why she was such a timid little creature in any endeavor that did not involve her quirk.
"I do my best to keep it clean and nice.. I don't think I've done a bad job... H-have I?" Rin was nervous. Nervous that the nurse would claim her quirk had too negative an effect on her health and livelihood for Rin to be a heroine. If such a judgement was made, there was nothing Rin could do to circumvent it. It would be the end. As the tension built, her breathing got faster....

the nurse is in don't feel like you're alone anymore “That’s… How you need to activate your powers?” Lashes and lids fluttering in shock at the answer she was given, Sophie felt a mix of horror and anger at what had been going on her life so far, particularly her school life. No doubt needing to employ her abilities as part of her lessons and things in order to hone them, the nurse felt no small amount of annoyance that her tutors either hadn’t noticed or seen fit to bring up the issue with her, but none of the irritation was directed at the girl herself.
“Listen Rin, you can’t keep doing this…” Looking at those white scars again before closing her eyes and pulling her fingers up to wrap around the hand of the girl, after opening her brilliant blues again Miss Sequoia looked deep into the irises of the young girl as she pleaded with her. “From a medical standpoint, it’s a disastrous way to go about things… Cells can only divide so many times so eventually wounds here won’t heal properly, at best you’ll end up with some nasty scar tissue in the area and at worst you’ll risk hardening your veins like a junkie. And there’s the infection risk…” Hoping that perhaps she might be able to better convince her by fully describing some of the medical complication of her method, while the young flesh of the girl was no doubt staving off the worst symptoms that wouldn’t always be the case and it was a habit that needed to be curbed as soon as possible.
“Ideally, given the nature of your quirk and the risk it poses for you I’d ask you avoid using it at all, but I know a girl like you won’t be able to resist if you see someone in trouble so…” Sighing gently as she used her free hand to move up and lightly grip the shoulder of Rin reassuringly, while it seemed as though all the pink haired doctor had done today was chide and disappoint the girl in front of her, she hoped that her student understood that her sober reactions were sourced from concern. “Promise me you won’t use it until we figure out a better way for you to draw your blood out?” Leaning a little closer to the dark haired youngster and looking into her eyes, Sophie implored her to take better care of herself in spite of her giving nature. After all, any good medic needs to keep themselves able so they can help others.
“It shouldn’t too hard, some form of cannula we can use like a tap should be enough to do the job I’d say, and will hopefully be a lot better for your health than repeated self-harm…” The blue irises of Miss Sequoia lifting upward as on the spot she had already started to fashion an idea they might be able to employ to save this girl the trauma of hurting herself to use her abilities, mentally the nurse envisioned something similar to what one tended to put into the arms of patients in order to deliver antibiotics and chemicals rather than using repeated injections, but surely there was a way they could achieve the reverse?

WORD COUNT: TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy A few confused blinks left Rin, as miss Sophie began showing concerns over the way that she had been treating herself in regards to her quirk. Rin had been exceedingly careful with it. Utilizing her quirk only when she absolutely had to. In the few circumstances where she had to use the quirk, she attempted to cut from an angle where she hadn't done so before, precisely to prevent the scar tissue from causing permanent damage to her blood vessels. Apparently it hadn't been good enough. Lowering her head, Rin was looking down at her feet. The shame that came along with having this quirk seemed to never end. Having to hurt herself to be useful. Having to utilize blood, which had many individuals screaming in fear already. Now even the nurse was appalled by the conditions of her quirk. Rin's eyes were wide open, as she just stared at her feet. There were so many people around here at Yuuei blessed with quirks of magnificence and wonder. With so much glory going around, how come every time that Rin had to utilize her own, it became a horrible experience almost immediately? Leaving scars that could potentially become much worse than that? It was completely unfair. This quirk was a disgrace, even among quirk users. All the following words that Sophie spoke were going in one ear, filtered out the other, never properly registering.
In the middle of Sophie's sentence, Rin finally began speaking again, interrupting the woman. At this point, the sapphire blue eyes were still staring intently at her own shoes. Breathing softly, calmly, the question that was posed was clearly one that Rin had considered several hundred times over. "Do you think being a hero with my quirk is a bad idea, miss Sophie?.. Would I just end up killing myself or becoming a cripple?" It was a quiet, solemn question. If anyone knew more about the complications that Rin would be facing and going through, it would be Sophie. The girl's dream was to be a heroine. The girl's dream was to rescue, help, protect. However, if everyone continuously told her that such a dream was an impossibility with the body and quirk she had been given, then harming herself to help others was just a stupid decision. A hero which crippled themselves to save others was no hero at all. At least not for long. A cripple could save no one.
"I.. can't even promise that, miss Sophie. Tomorrow there's objective training in teams of two. If I want to participate in any meaningful way, I have to use my quirk. Otherwise there's no point showing up... W-would tomorrow be okay, or is it already too bad?" Continuing to look down, the sensation of ultimate defeat was plastered over her voice. A looming sadness. So far, between Rin and Sophie, there had been nothing positive to be gained for the raven haired youth. Everything only seemed to be getting worse and worse. There was a limit to how much bad news she could handle in one sitting. Rin was lightly quivering at the moment. Extreme discomfort was settling throughout her body.
Hidden within the voice was a silent plea. A plea that wasn't directly directed to Miss Sophie. Instead, it was a plea directed at nothing in particular. Almost as if the girl had no one she could state her plea to. Please.. Being a hero is my dream..!

the nurse is in taking care of the self is no sin “I think anyone can be a hero, regardless of their quirk. Some of the Vigilante’s I knew either had no quirk or ones that weren’t well suited to combat but with the right approach were still effective?” Smiling gently at the question of Rin’s as she realized her more serious manner might have been worrying the girl, Miss Sequoia remembered her fellow Aegis team members and especially Takahashi who had taught her martial arts to compensate for her lack of combat quirk ability.
“You just have to find a way to fight that doesn’t hurt yourself too badly? I mean, you won’t be able to save anyone if you’ve passed out or something right? As a medic, there are times when your own safety is the best thing for a group. Sometimes, you have to hold yourself back from being reckless?” Recalling the times when she herself might have wanted to take a more active role in things and had to remind herself that her team needed her healthy when they were not, Sophie hoped that her experience and gentle encouragement might steer her student on a safe path toward heroism. Usually, those who threw themselves at danger for the sake of others tended to be called martyrs, after all.
“Tomorrow…?” Frowning a little at the shy objection that the girl made to Sophie’s insistence, even if the work toward her suggestion was done overnight, with a prototype the nurse doubted that Rin would be comfortable enough using it. I wish she’d come in for this check-up a few days sooner… Such a troublesome case because obviously the medic had to weight up the cost to her health and also the cost to her education, with a sigh Miss Sequoia realized the best compromise she could come up with for the situation even though it wasn’t one that had what she would consider the best interest for the girl. Sadly, given her response, even if the pink haired woman forbade the use of the quirk she imagined it would likely be met with a reluctant defiance.
“OK, then new plan. Tomorrow is the last day you can use your power like that, how does that promise sound? If something new comes up, I will contact the principal and put you on medical leave, but I will let you use your powers in a pinch tomorrow if it is absolutely necessary? Please try to avoid it if you can.” Frowning a little and wishing she had some other way around this so she could enable this young woman’s desire to learn and grow without risking her health, with some reluctance and a serious tone of voice, Sophie spelled out the fact that this exception would be her final one. Certainly not wanting to enable the girl in harming herself, a part of the nurse within cursed the mechanism through which the quirk of her student functioned, but did not want to hold that against Rin at all. It wasn’t her fault that the quirk was problematic.
“Furthermore…” Standing up and turning away from Rin after a few seconds and then striding over to her desk and picking up a pen, Miss Sequoia pulled a permission slip from her drawer and quickly wrote out a small note in handwriting that was uncharacteristically neat for a doctors scribbling. “Once your lesson is over, show this to your tutor and make sure they let your next teacher know you will be late for your next class because you’re coming to me straight after. I’ll use my quirk to make sure any injuries done to you will be put right as rain in a matter of minutes so as to stave off any complications, OK Rin?” Holding out the piece of paper that was written and indicated that the girl in front of her was to come straight to the nurse’s office for treatment after her training tomorrow and then signed with her signature, though her Aqua Vitae couldn’t stave off every consequence of further incisions she could speed up the recovery for sure. Sophie’s conscience at least demanding at least this, while the session so far had seen the physician coming off a little sterner than usual she hoped that her student at least understood a little of why she was so concerned…

WORD COUNT: TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy There was both something entrancing yet also discouraging over what Miss Sophie was stating. The girl had been careless about her own health in so many different regards. First Rin had been lying to everyone about what her quirk truly was, shouldering the burden and the pressure in loneliness. Attempting to never user the quirk if she could at all help it. Then when things had gotten more difficult, of course Rin had relied on her quirk; What other options had the raven haired female had? The girl could not compete with someone like Nick without utilizing her quirks full potential. It was simply an impossibility. Which was also why the girl had stated so clearly that, tomorrow, she was planning on using her quirk from the beginning.
"I understand, Miss Sophie... Then, I will be relying on your expertise to assist me in finding a better way. I fully understand that ruining my own future to be a hero, is the opposite of heroism.. I just never figured out another way... I thought I was bound to the pain this quirk has brought me."
There was something bubbling under the surface. Something that had been touched, which Rin was now struggling to keep locked away inside. A feeling, sensation, a truth. Quivering slightly, the girl was nervously rubbing her hands against each other. "My quirk was always painful. I can feel my blood wherever it is. I can feel every corner of my body, where my blood gets to. Every breath, every heartbeat." Rin was staring down at her hands. The trembling was refusing to come to an end. There was still so much more that could be said and shared. The sensitivity Rin felt when it came to her own body was extraordinary. Things within her, that other individuals hardly noticed, such as a simple casual heartbeat. Every single drop of blood being moved through her veins gave her a sensation.
"...My body hates the pain. I can feel how it panics at me bleeding, even when my mind remains calm. I can feel all of it. Miss Sophie, I hate my quirk. I hate my quirk, but... I want to be out there helping people. I feel so lost..."
Rin slowly rose from her position at the chair, nodding ever so slightly. Of course Miss Sophie wanted to have more of a followup to this conversation. In earnest, Rin did too. If there was a less painful way to utilize her quirk; A way that wouldn't completely upset her body and negatively impact her personality, then Rin was more than willing to pursue it. Taking a deep breath, Rin nodded a couple of times.
"I promise. I'll be back right after the practice has concluded... I'll do my best to use my quirk sparingly... till we find a better solution. Thank you, Miss Sophie..." Rin was a bit staggered between two worls. The desire to tell Miss Sophie how everything felt to her. To explain and emphasize her struggles and dilemmas. That, however, would have to wait till after the practice. For now, Rin needed to gather herself properly. Without giving Sophie much of a chance to think or react on what Rin had said, the girl would, if uninterrupted, leave the nurses office... she needed some peace of mind to contend with all the emotions that had begun bursting forth within.

the nurse is in try not to carry the whole world on your shoulders That must be a disconcerting sensation… I wonder if there’s some way to dull the feedback? The topic of her student’s apparent sensitivity something that Sophie found a little intriguing but also somewhat worrying, she couldn’t help but feel a little curiosity as to how to tinker with it, both as a matter of intellect and necessity. For certain what sounded like a heightened ability to perceive pain something that might prove problematic in the wrong circumstances, the nurse found herself wondering if her student’s quirk might mean she could bypass things like pain relief, which seemed a worrisome prospect to consider? Furthermore, she must have had some form of special brain make-up to handle all that sensory information or something. It was scary, but fascinating at the same time.
“I won’t lie and say your quirk will be the easiest to deal with, but hopefully it should just be a case of finding ways to properly manage the more negative effects while enhancing the benefits?” Sophie sensitive enough however to not get too lost in the merits and curiosities of her student’s quirk, with a gentle smile the nurse lightly patted the shoulder of Rin and hoped that some of her more serious observations and pieces of advice might sink in without affecting this shy youngster’s confidence too much. Not wanting to damage her sense of self-esteem but rather instil what she felt might be a lacking or heavily reduced sense of self preservation, before her student departed Sophie offered a few words of encouragement in the hopes of lifting the spirits of the dark haired girl.
“Stay safe, Rin. As charming a girl as you are, I don’t really like the idea of you spending a lot of time here as a patient~” Flashing a grin at her student as the young girl departed before looking toward her desk and wondering how best to approach the principle about the topic of teaching her some beginners medicine, it was only now that Miss Sequoia remembered that the drink she had made had been sitting on her desk for some time now.
It's gotten rather cold…[/is] Lifting up the mug of fragrant tea which had been sitting long enough to lose some of its warmth, perhaps it was a mark on how seriously that the nurse had taken her discussion with Rin that she had managed to forget about it despite her compulsion to consume liquid that was usually so fervent. Naturally the impulse seeming to reassert itself as soon as Sophie found a drink back in her hand, despite the lukewarm nature that her beverage now possessed, the school’s chief of medicine still swallowed it down eagerly before setting her cup to one side and starting on an email. Thinking it best to keep the principal informed of what she had demanded of Rin following her training tomorrow so that the girl shouldn’t be challenged about the authenticity of her note, Sophie also wondered if the little note she dropped to the man might also help to establish some correspondence on the other matters that this little check-up had raised…

Nicely done you two! It's not a major "progress" thread to speak but still a cute little interaction.
