these rapid eyes will keep on moving All the oddities had reached a fever pitch now and Lani was becoming increasingly frustrated with the whole situation. At first, it was just random fires. They seemed random and just kind of happened. But as their frequency and intensity increased, Lani grew more suspicious. And then with the fires becoming weirder and even seeming quirk based, Lani couldn't help but feel like arsons were responsible for it all. But why exactly? Lani didn't actually know. She didn't see any value behind the fires and strange things that were happening. And yet, she couldn't let it go either. She had witnessed quite a few of them, but there were a lot more around making things harder for the people of Musutafu. There were even fires at the school! And yet, it didn't seem like anything unusual just yet. What a pain! Lani wasn't going to take this sitting down. Not after the tragedies of the Kunshu Festival and Semper Fi. Even if she had to deal with it herself after the close call in that one suburban park.
But before she unleashed the beast, Lani was going to do something she didn't do very much. It was going to be her asking advice. Her role model for heroism was in a completely different country. And while she was able to stay up late to watch his escapades on the news, it wasn't the same as seeing the man work in the city she grew up in. But UA offered a wealth of professional heroes and their experience. So she could settle for them! Namely, her homeroom teacher, Arata-sensei. his was exactly the kind of thing he was here for right? Lani didn't know, She was used to figuring things out on her own without anyone else's help, so asking for advice was pretty hard for her. And yet, here she was doing just that. She hung around in the classroom after the last class let out and wait for everyone else to leave.
She was still sitting in the back row next to the window as she had done all year. And just like all year, her school uniform wasn't worn properly. Her bra and midriff were exposed because she left her blazer and shirt unbuttoned. Her legs were bare, only covered y her skirt and her shoes. Lani didn't wear socks that went above her ankles if she could help it. And, of course, even though winter was in recent memory the girl had her sleeves rolled up to get as much of her arms out in the air as possible. Oddly enough in the year that she had been here, no one really asked why Lani dressed the way she did. No one seemed curious enough and probably made up their own reasons in their head. But it was simply because of her quirk. It needed the light on her skin and Lani did what she wanted to keep it there. But that wasn't what was on her mind. No, she had to ask about this problem she was having. "Hey Teach." She spoke up, once the last person was out of the room. "You got a sec?" ulla

Arata had been trying to be a proper teacher this year. After last year's several incidents, personal failures and professional, he had gone through a bit of maturity in the negative sense. He became more critical of himself, but a lot cheerier around others. It was clear to see as he would keep to himself and look over various notes and news clippings rather than his drawings and stories like normal. No one really asked him about it, but, he didn't want to bother anyone with his problems. He was trying to solve something of his own, to get out of an engagement that may well just end his life if no one ever bothered to talk to him about it.
He was wearing the same thing he always wore when he taught. It looked like a remnant of his vigilante costume. Something he was really attached to as Moonlighter before he became Glovebox. It was a dark hoodie with white moons adorning the trim of the hood and hem of the jacket, reversible in coloration, easy to just flip back and forth. On his nose were pair of glasses, resting neatly over the bridge. His sandy blonde hair sticking out from the hood as those red eyes scanned over various stories today, trying to find something. he wasn't sure what he was looking for himself.
As the class went on, questions were answered, and the bell rang, he smiled and stood up, changing his expression easily as he waved goodbye to everyone. He was trying to make a better case of getting in touch with all of his students individually. Lani was on the list. He wanted to get to know the girl better, make a better impression on her as a person, not just as a teacher. "Hey Lani. Outside of school hours, you can call me Glovebox, or Arata. Or Teach if you like that one." He said while he switched the notes on his desk out, using his quirk to slyly slip them away while he stood up.
He had gotten good at commanding them to move around with muscle memory of room lay outs he was familiar with, such that he was able to expertly swap out the stuff in the drawers for some of the drawings. The old drawings he made of the students last year and possible costumes in reference to their quirks. He did care about them, in his own kind of otkau way.
"What's up? Something on your mind?" He asked while leaning against the front of his desk, sparing time for Lani.

these rapid eyes will keep on moving Lani chuckled as he tried to suggest more nicknames that she could use outside of class time. However, for Lani, when she slapped a nickname on someone, it stuck forever. Often it got to the point where she forgot their actual names. And while some nicknames made sense, a lot of them were really weird and out of place with some messed up reasoning behind them. The perfect example of that was Noriko, but that was for her to discover on her own. For now, the teen had something else on her mind. And with her teacher's attention, she could grill him a bit to see if she could learn more about her situation. The girl pointed a thumb outward in the direction of Musutafu. The school was a part of the city, but it was in a certain direction, so it was obvious what Lani was pointing to. "You do patrols and all that stuff right?" She asked, wondering it Arata was keeping up with his hero duties while he was still teaching. She knew he had been missing for a while on different occasions, but she didn't know the exact reasoning why. Just rumors and nonsense she didn't feel like sorting through.
"They got a hero network or something you talk to other heroes with?" She added. If or how professionals communicated with each other was pretty much a mystery to Lani. But it would be interesting if there was something she could check out. If only to help her with her troubles. "Cause there's been a ton of fires in the city recently and no one is talking about them." Not this one was a bit of an exaggeration. While there had been a few fires in the past, none of them were serious enough to warrant news attention or anything like that. They were mostly small fires that were put out relatively quickly or assumed to be someone pranking another with their quirk. There was no real connection between any of them.
But having witnessed a few, Lani was growing more suspicious as they progressed. She couldn't help feeling like something was wrong. "You put out any fires recently?" She sat up in her chair, letting the legs in the front hit the ground with a slight bang. The girl leaned forward in her seat and rested her elbows on her desk. It was all in an effort to lean in closer to her teacher, but considering he was on the other side of the classroom it really didn't mean much at all. In the end, she was mostly just asking about his hero activities. There was obviously more she wanted to ask, but this was where she started the discussion. All the time she spent at UA and hero activity was pretty low altogether. Musutafu was truthfully a pretty safe city in that regard. In fact, Japan as a whole was pretty safe. It was something she recognized as a foreigner, but she felt as though something was wrong now. ulla

He moved closer and found a desk to sit at himself while listening to the girl. It was a sign to show he had an interest in what she was saying. Rather than sitting at his desk and listening to questions posed from a student like a teacher would, he sat closer to listen to her like a person. Fires? Well, he hadn't heard anything criminal going on pertaining to fires, but, there were a few too many fires for it to just be a coincidence. But, they were all inconsequential. Arata considered it while he reached in to his pocket and pulled out his phone.
With the unlock pattern drawn on the screen, Arata would open up the hero chatting app, looking to see if there were any more reports of fires, or any investigations ongoing. "Yeah I patrol a lot now, usually once a week for a whole day, I tend to look out for quirk oppression in either direction. To be honest, my focus has shifted toward preventing another Semper Fi incident. I just stopped a small time robbery the other day actually. They all had no quirks, but, two vigilantes nearly caused a public outcry, you know, because they were using their quirks." He sighed while he continued to scroll about through his phone. "That's weird. People have reported the fires. But, they've all been small, contained, nothing so big that anyone would call it arson. That being said, you are right. There are a ton more than there should be. You'd think that when a fire is reported, others in the area would be extra cautious to prevent fires."
He was honestly a little stumped about this, he turned the phone around to let Lani see the number of fires reported, and the number of investigations or declarations in regard to the fires being not worth the assets to dedicate to investigate them. "I'm gonna look in to this when I get the chance. You know, that's a pretty good eye you have there. Noticing this pattern I mean. You'd make a good investigator." He said while leaning back in the chair he was now sitting in.
"Can you tell me something, how has the class been in my absence? Does, you know, everyone hate me? Do you think I can still earn everyone's admiration and trust?" He asked, wanting to be a good teacher for his students, but, was worried they would rather have another teacher at this point.

these rapid eyes will keep on moving Lani eyed her teacher as he came closer and wiped out his phone. She nodded along as he spoke of his patrols and recent events during them. It seemed like crimes of all kinds were still going on. It wasn't unexpected, but one would think non-quirkers would be more cautious with all the pro heroes around. it could be that they hoped that there just weren't enough to cover all crimes, but a bank robbery is a pretty big gamble. Lani couldn't help but chuckle a bit at the story her teacher told. "What a bunch of damn idiots." Lani was still young and she had yet to encounter actual surface level criminals. She knew they existed and how petty crimes happened, but her experience with villains wasn't for something like a robbery or theft in general. The impression was mostly left by a single villain that she vowed to put an end to. Sure, it seemed obsessive, but that person was the whole reason Lani came into existence and she wasn't going to just go along with whatever that person wanted. She was her own person and that villain was too cruel to just leave alone.
At least in Lani's mind that' how it was. As for Arata, she was glad to get a glimpse into the basics of the job. It made sense and the vigilante problem was present. Though, Lani disagreed with how vigilantes were vilified. It could be because she was from American, but the suppression of one's quirk in Japan always bothered her. As long as she didn't harm others, what was the problem? The girl shrugged and sat up a little bit as the teacher brought up the concern about his absence. She looked at him and thought for a moment. "Well, we've missed out on a lot of the basic stuff. But the other teachers that to the specialized classes have been filling the gaps somewhat." She explained. They had rescue, combat, and survival classes throughout the year, even if Arata wasn't here. But the basic stuff like the law, public relations, and branding were missed. Practicing with their quirks had to be done on their own time without their homeroom teacher there to assist them, but the classes lacked that stuff.
"We've kind of just doing the other stuff on our own separately. I think you gotta get in there and get some real classes going." She explained. Lani wasn't the type to care or follow authority, but she knew the other students were. She could manage fine on her own, but not everyone could. "Some of my classmates are falling behind, for sure. Maybe do some classes to get everyone together for the hero stuff. It's been a year, so stuff like her names and special moves have probably been thought up individually. Maybe get the class to share them with each other now?" She suggested, which reminded her of something else she still couldn't really believe. "Oh, and for some dumbass reason, they voted me in a vice president of the class. So you'll have to deal with that shit too." ulla
