--- ARISU --- -playing catch(up)- It was hard not to already be hyped up to be wearing her Yuuei tracksuit for the first time- and, in all honesty, Arisu was putting terribly little effort into being anything but. Prez-chan- or, more appropriately, Rin- had offered to help her catch up on the lessons she'd missed out on while her family sorted out its own affairs before they could send her to start her first year at the new academy, and she'd been quick to take her up on the offer (as well as taking homework she'd never been assigned as personal extra credit assignments, but that was another conversation entirely). As such, when Rin had followed up by offering to start her on the sort of physical training everyone else had been doing the whole time she'd been at home, the chance to start closing the gap between her and her classmates was too much to pass up!
She arrived at the designated time, minus about fifteen minutes- she wanted a chance to look around, get familiarized with the area in question, and hedge the bets in her favor. Recon was always important, right? Intelligence, intelligence, intelligence. Know your enemy, know your battlefield, and most importantly, know yourself. These were the lessons she expected to live by, and since she didn't think she'd have an enemy, and she knew her relative physical limits more or less, increasing what she knew about the area they were going to train in sounded like a particularly wise investment.
While she waited, and looked about to see what she could learn about the obstacle course she'd been told they could use to start making progress towards matching her classmates, Arisu kept an eye on her phone and the school chat. She'd found it invaluable in making connections and networking, and she didn't want to miss anything if she didn't have to. Already it'd connected her to at least a half dozen people she looked forward to meeting, and informed her about a few she sort of hoped she wouldn't run into. Though, from what she'd seen- including the lead-up to the short power outage caused by Aki throwing lightning at another student- she had a huge gap between more than just her physicality and her classmates'. Quirk power sounded like she might be well behind the eight ball there, too. But! She supposed she'd need to wait for a teacher's aid to address that particular deficiency- for now, the help of the class president to start her marathon towards greatness was more than sufficient to keep her excited and engaged, even if the air around her was darkened, cool and gloomy, punctuated only by little sparkles to ease the slightly depressing air about her.

WORD COUNT: TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy One of the newer students, whom Rin had previously offered some assistance in catching up to those that had been in class the whole year, had accepted the raven haired female's offer. However, that which the freshman had requested assistance in, wasn't what Rin had imagined they'd be doing. The other girl, Arisu Disukodo-san, had seemed fairly confident in her own ability when it came to catching up in the bookly realm. Thus, the request had been for more of a catchup in the physical aspect of things. Perhaps it was more apt to call this an assessment of what the current students were capable of. Having offered to help, Rin felt obligated to assist, even if she was fairly confident that a student like Darren would be better suited for something like the obstacle course. Still, without any kind of fuzz, without even considering complaining or suggesting someone else take over, Rin had gotten dressed in the track suit. The raven black hair had been gathered in a ponytail, as she stepped out onto ground alpha, where she had arranged to meet with Arisu-san. On the approach, Rin could see Arisu-san already having arrived. Internally, she thanked the heavens that she wouldn't be dealing with yet another lazy delinquent. Lord knew, Yuuei had enough of those around. They would be running the obstacle course. Being out here truly brought back memories. The very first week at Yuuei, Rin had gotten out here as well. Teaming up with another student from class, Yoruhi-kun, the two of them had been set up for the obstacle course of their lives. Back then, their challenges had been rough and cumbersome. It had taken them a good amount of time, effort, coordination and collaboration to get through. Nowadays, such an obstacle course could hardly be called an obstacle course. With all the training, with all the guidance, Rin could've probably nagivated the whole thing by herself in a matter of moments. Barring the final obstalce, of course, which could only, at the time, be traversed as a team. Today, however, they'd be running something differently entirely.Waving to the other girl, Rin gave her a warm greeting. "Arisu-san, good morning! I see you've received your training outfit. Great! Either way, please follow me." The reply was energetic and enthusiastic, trying to get the two off on a good note. "As you might've guessed, my name is Rin Kurama, here to assist getting you acclimated to our lessons at Yuuei." Quietly, calmly, Rin was walking towards another section of ground alpha. They'd be starting with a middle-of-the-road obstacle course. Something that'd probably be quite difficult for a regular human to even complete. The first obstacle on the course was a ten meter tall wall. To assist with climbing it, on the left and the right side, with about two meters between each side, and two meters differential in height, were stone platforms. In essence, one had to leap out into the air, grapple onto the next ledge and pull oneself up. Should a jump be missed, there'd be a fall. Either landing on a platform below, or dropping all the way into a dug dune of sand. The sand was loose enough that a fall would hurt significantly, yet be unlikely to lead to any broken bones."Here we go. First obstacle is to reach the top of this construction, then rappel down the other side using the rope attached at the top." Rin gestured, making sure that Arisu understood the objectives, knew where she was going and when. "First, I'll give a demonstration. Afterwards, I'll be ensuring your safety, should you fall. Fear not, I won't let you get hurt." The benevolence and softness to Rin's voice was unmatchable. There was a soft tune to it, as if she was constantly singing her words, without her ever having intended it to be that way. Bowing her head respectfully before Arisu, Rin took a soft breath. Running straight at the wall, the girl was so fast and so nimble that she practically ran up the wall. Rather than needing to grasp onto the ledge to pull herself up, with her sheer skill in acrobatics and speed, she managed to wall-run between each platform, scaling each jump in a matter of seconds. All in all, it only took Rin about twenty seconds to reach the top, followed by a measly five seconds to rappel down the other side. To top it all off, the girl, returning to Arisu's side, hardly seemed to have broken a sweat. Perhaps more impressively, she hadn't given any indication of what her quirk might be... "...Alright, Arisu-san. Now it's your turn to get to the top."

--- ARISU --- -playing catch(up)- The student council president- or, as Arisu had been calling her, Prez-chan!- was not quite the sort of person she was expecting to meet at the obstacle course. In some ways, sure, like "student" or "female" or "named Rin", but she had neither accounted for just how pretty the girl's long hair would be, nor for how athletic-looking Rin happened to present. She'd imagined a girl more like herself, since... well, she'd been class president at her last school. Rin was impressive, and a little intimidating, if she was honest with herself.
"Ohayo, Kurama-san! It's a pleasure to meet you in person at last! I had no idea your hair would be so pretty! Which makes sense, text is notoriously bad for conveying the hairstyle of the author, you see." Arisu chuckled, a touch of nerves painting the sound as she rambled a little, pacing nearer and following as Rin led her to the obstacle course.
At first, everything looked normal and exciting, with hurdles and trenches and little rope bridges and a short wall with a rope- exactly what she imagined! And then they kept going.
The REAL start of their morning course, it seemed, was... three stories of platforming that would make Mario reach for some green shrooms. And before Arisu could even voice her hesitance, Rin was up and over and back in the space of thirty seconds.
'No, this is good, this is great, this is exactly the sort of start I was hoping for,' thought Arisu behind her protective, everpresent smile. 'You know-
-abject humiliation.' Her apprehension and cynicism were all internal, though- externally, she twitched, just the once, and then popped her fist lightly against her palm in apparent determination. "Okay!! Let's do this!" The seemingly enthusiastic girl stared up at the ledge opposite her and backed up no further than she estimated each platform would give her in terms of a running start. She pelted forward as fast as she can, threw herself up into the air with all her might, caught the edge of the platform with both hands, and... promptly fell back to the start due to her momentum overpowering her grip strength. The landing elicited a sudden and pained grunt, and Arisu lay there a moment afterwards before scrambling back to her feet and huffing in frustration, turning and backing up to try again. This time, she gave herself more upwards than forwards momentum, and managed to hook her forearms overtop the ledge together- though the anatomical necessities of what would then crash into the side of the ledge with her weight behind them wrung a strained, trailing whine from her throat. She wriggled and scrambled, and finally threw a leg up and over the edge, allowing herself to roll onto the first platform up... about a minute after she'd started.
This time she stayed still for a moment, using the platform's height to buy some privacy as she hugged her chest and tried not to think about how the next half dozen jumps were gonna feel. Then, pity party over, she sat up and looked over the edge.
"This is gonna take a while!"

Rimma was in a hurry today, long red hair bouncing along behind her. Clad in the school tracksuit, with her ever-present fluffy white scarf around her neck and knitted cap atop her head, a fresh and barely used bare of sneakers hitting the ground at a rhythmic jogging pace. Not being bundled up as she usually was left her cold and nearly shivering, but it was a choice between proper attire and comfort and she had chosen the former.
Normally punctual without fail, the Russian girl was running a little late for a meeting she had arranged with Rin - as much as she had already mapped out most of the school, she had neglected to do the same with ground alpha. As a result, she had gotten turned around once or twice on her way there. So, she found herself in a rush to arrive on time or at the very worst only a few minutes late.
Round, gray-blue eyes searched for the obstacle course or Rin as she jogged along. Breath coming out in little puffs of cold air, her expression lit up as she spotted what and who she was looking for. Picking up her pace a little more, Rimma had just missed Rin's demonstration - and she did not immediately notice Arisu at work attempting to climb up the first set of obstacles.
"Zdrastvootye, Rin!" The Russian girl called out in greeting - a way of saying hello in Russian - before coming to a stand still. Putting a slightly apologetic smile on her blue-gray lips, she inclined her head downward in a impression of a polite bow. "I apologize if I am late - it turns out I am not so familiar with the grounds as I thought I was." Afterwards, she straightened up and gave a light laugh as she added. "I hope you did not have to wait long, but having to hurry and jog at least was a good way to warm up, no?"
Then, she turned her attention to the obstacle course to look it over - and it was here, as she let her gaze trail upward along the length of the ten meter wall, that she took notice of Arisu. Eyes widening in surprise, though not of the unpleasant variety, she almost called out in greeting to her as well. She caught herself, however, as it was quite obvious from even a moments glance that the other girl was focused on scrambling over the side of the first obstacle.
It seemed to be giving the energetic girl quite a lot of trouble, and as she watched Rimma's brow furrowed and her cheeks puffed out in worry. Not for the other girl, as she managed to pull herself up and on top of the wall just fine. Rather, Rimma was feeling a bit of concern over her own athletic ability - but the moment of doubt was quickly pushed aside and her expression returned to normal as Arisu called out over the edge.
"Zdrastvootye, Arisu! I am sure you will get the hang of it as you go!" She called out a greeting and encouragement, before looking to Rin. Pursing her lips thoughtfully for a moment, she asked. "I take it Arisu asked you for help as well, no? Or at least, that you offered to help?" Here, her thoughtful expression turned back to a light smile and she added. "It is little wonder you are Class President, taking time out to help new students like this."

WORD COUNT: TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy Blinking a couple of times, Rin was clearly taken aback at receiving such a compliment. Almost confused, the girl quietly took a lock of her own hair to inspect it, rolling the dark strands between her fingers, almost as if Rin suspected that the compliment was in fact a hint at there being a problem with her hair. It was so rare for Rin to receive compliments. It was even rarer that she took them for what they were. A short moment passed, where Rin confirmed that there was in fact nothing wrong with her hair. Playing it off as if she had been distracted, the girl then quietly replied to Arisu-san. "Thanks. I grew it myself...?" Upon realizing what she had just said, Rin facepalmed internally. Externally, all that she managed to do to recuperate the situation was to smile awkwardly, while getting Arisu started on the obstacle course. Hopefully the little awkward interplay wouldn't be too noticeable. Hopefully it could be played off as a joke. Right?... Hopefully Arisu wouldn't consider Rin some kind of freak weirdo. While Arisu-san was climbing, Rin was reminiscing all the things that had already gone wrong in class. First there was Nick, the horrible creature. Even thinking his name and what he had done made Rin shudder and feel uncomfortable. Shaking her head, she quickly traced forwards to Maximillian-san. It was strange to Rin, how someone who had initially been so sweet and caring, had ended up spouting so racially biased comments. Like Nick.
Taking a deep breath, the sapphire blue eyes focussed onto Arisu-san. As the class president, it was Rin's duty to make sure that no more tragedies befell the small class. That they had seen the last of the mess and could move forwards, together. It was while deep in thoughts, that Rimma-san had appeared on scene, offering her greeting. "Zdrastvootye, Rin!"Flailing rapidly, Rin had very clearly gotten startled by the sudden Russian greeting. Eyes finding their way to Rimma, for the briefest of moments, Rin seemed absolutely prepared to defend herself. The wildness and sheer power emanating from her, so unlike the tiny frame that she existed within. So immersed into her own thoughts, she hadn't been even remotely aware that another girl was approaching. The worst part, was that it was one of the other classmates, whom Rin herself had offered to bring up to speed. Just like she had offered Arisu-san. Breathing quickly, Rin brought a hand to her lips, clearing her throat and getting herself back under control. The tense atmosphere dropped as soon as the startled sensation dispersed. "Zdras..Zebras... Uh... Greetings, Rimma-san" Rin attempted to reply, falling slightly over the words as she spoke. Rubbing her cheek, the awkward smile had returned to her lips...Of course Rin was offering the newcomers to the class a bit of assistance, it was the duties of the class president to maintain some kind of unity in the class. To make sure that the new members had somewhere to go, someone to trust, somewhere to begin their journey. "I do my best to make sure our class is the best it can be, Rimma-san. I would do so even without being class president... Even if lately, it's been a rather grim string of failures." Lord knows, if it gets any worse, our class may be disbanded. For the followup, Rin spoke loud and clearly, making sure that both Rimma-san and Arisu-san could hear what she had to say. "...I'm glad you both made it. Technically, this course was designed for two people. Thus, cooperate to the best of your abilities. The first obstacle, is crossing this wall. You're naturally free to utilize your quirks. Do note that you'll be held accountable for the destruction of any facility equipment."Rin quietly took a few steps away from Rimma-san. The raven haired female wasn't exactly discontent with the pressence of the russian woman. It was more that anyone except Jasmine getting too close left her feeling somewhat uncomfortable. The aftermath of music night wouldn't have left her this scarred, if not for the fact that Nick had sent Elise-san to the hospital. Not to mention severely wounded Ryuusei-kun. Shaking her head from side to side, no matter how much Rin fought it, those thoughts continued to return to her head, especially when it came to training periods with new students. After all, that is when it had all started. Nick's unhealthy obsession... The times were changing. Villains were fighting for their place in the world. Fighting to utter their viewpoints. On occasion they even managed to outwit or even overpower the pro heroes tasked with keeping them under wraps... Just like...
Rin sighed softly, looking at the obstacle course. Hopefully one day, everything Nick had done - not only directly to Rin, but to the entirety of Japan - could be washed away and forgotten.

--- POST TITLE HERE --- - Climb quest for two -
Arisu burst into laughter as the class president delivered a classic joke in perfect deadpan. Rin might be awkward, but this time, at least, her social ineffectualness actually played itself into a positive misunderstanding!
"Failures, though? What failures?"
Arisu peered down and realized that Rimma had arrived at some point. She waved at her classmate, quietly hoping that perhaps she had been fortunate enough that the Russian had hit the scene sometime after her undignified ascent onto the first of the platforms, the one she had yet to leave. That first leap had left her with aches in places she much prefered not to ache, and looked upwards, thinking hard. Her quirk was useful, but she'd have to have her arms up in order to grab onto the ledge, which she would be unable to do if she was trying to use her quirk for propulsion by pointing her arms down and blasting away. What she COULD do, was try to mimic what she'd seen- Rin's wallrunning to scamper easily up between the ledges.
Now, Arisu wasn't stupid. She had no chance of perfectly executing the maneuver as Rin had, none at all. What she did have, though, was a two-part goal to A.) get up onto the next ledge, and B.) not smoosh herself against the edge again. Rimma still seemed to have some questions for Rin, so she decided to try to adapt- since she didn't know the force, angles, or speeds she'd need to wallrun, instead, she'd try shoving a single step against the wall at close to the apex of her jump, trying to buy a little extra height to spare the more cushioned parts of her torso.
A moment was dedicated to planning. She'd need to launch from her left foot, so as to use her right to kick off the wall as she started to slow down. Plotting out her ascent, she backed up as much as was safe, budgeted her steps in her head, and pelted towards the edge while the other two kept talking. As it happened, the plan was just enough to leave her curled in half over the side of the ledge, which was all in all far preferable, though the impact dragged another grunt from her nonetheless. Rolling onto hands and knees, she scampered to the side as Rin started to share some new instructions.
Work together, huh? She nodded down, looking up towards the top as she got an idea, and then back down towards Rimma. "Can you make it onto the first ledge?" She herself was on the second of the ledges leading up the thirty foot tall wall. "I could just make it if I jumped hard as I can. I have an idea if you can't, but if you can get that far, I can help you up to this ledge!"
Her thought was to fetch the rappelling rope if Rimma couldn't ascend herself, throwing it over the other side and helping Rimma up that way! She wasn't sure it would work, though, so best to test her solo ascent skills first!

Rin's reaction to her greeting made Rimma falter for a moment, flashing the other girl an apologetic look. But then the 1-A class president composed herself and tried to repeat the greeting back - and the red-head had to make an effort to remain polite and not laugh at some of the results. Then the commented about helping regardless, and strings of failures, left Rimma with mixed feelings.
There wasn't time to dwell on that, though. Rin confirmed climbing the wall was the first obstacle before stepping away, and soon after Rimma's attention was on Arisu. Flicking her gray-blue eyes from Arisu down to the first wall, she sized it up for a moment before calling back confidently. "It may take some doing, but I am sure I can!"
Then, Rimma took a deep breath and backed away from the platform a few steps. She had jogged her way here, so she didn't think she needed to worry about warm ups or stretches beforehand. Flicking her gaze up and down the length of the wall again, plotting out how to go about scaling it, the Russian girl crouched down the way she recalled seeing sprinters do at starting lines.
With only a mental cue going off in her head to signal it, Rimma took off towards the wall. Her sprinting form was not the best, nor could it be said to be especially fast. Sneakers pounding against the sand, she jumped for the lowest ledge with her hands raised up to try and catch it.
Only to miss it entirely as she jumped too early and didn't get nearly enough height, hands flailing through the air and barely brushing against the underside of the ledge. Her momentum carried her through and into the wall, smacking into it and briefly knocking the wind out of her small frame. Staggering back a few steps, a light flush to her face, she ignored how silly that must have looked in favor of focusing - she needed to try again, and to jump later and more vertically than horizontally this time.
So, she tried again with that in mind. Returning to her starting spot, taking a crouching sprinter's stance once more, she ran at the wall a second time. Waiting a few steps longer than before, she planted on foot hard in the ground to try and stop some forward momentum - bending at the knee, and her other leg coming down beside the first to do the same - before leaping up into the air. The short Russian girl went up, arms outstretched to catch onto the bottom-most ledge.
As she came back down, one hand got a firm grasp on the rim while the other only managed the tips of her fingers. Body dangling below her awkwardly at a titled angle, Rimma's brow furrowed and her cheeks puffed out in concentration. With a slight swinging motion, she briefly bought herself enough leeway to snap her hand further up for a stronger hold - managing to get her forearm up onto the rim.
Now tilted the other way, her breath came out in frozen puffs as she tried to repeat the trick for her other hand. For one moment, when she brought her palm off the edge to thrust her arm out further, she felt her forearm slip on the edge and she thought she might fall. But then she smacked her other forearm down hard over the side of the ledge, catching herself before she could actually fall.
Relieved, but not actually done yet, Rimma found herself with the issue of how to get up further. First, she tried to do as she had seen Arisu do - to throw a leg up over the side. Awkwardly kicking and flailing, all she accomplished in the attempts was sending her body rocking back and forth and making it harder to keep her grip.
Huffing and puffing, she gave up on that and tried to catch her breath and straightened her legs out below her top stop the swinging from side to side. Instead, legs pressed together, she swung them forward and then back - waist dipping under the ledge before the swing backward brought her lower body out and away from it again. Repeating this a few more times to build up momentum, a swing back out and away from the ledge brought her legs and torso level with the ledge and for just a brief moment gravity wasn't pulling her down as harshly.
Capitalizing on that instant, Rimma frantically pulled her way further onto the ledge with her forearms - managing to get her chest and stomach on solid ground before gravity took hold once more. Folded over the side at the waist, getting her feet under her wouldn't be much challenge at this point. Wiggling her way up just a little further, she rolled over to sit on the ledge with her legs dangling down.
Not pausing to catch her breath or celebrate until she was actually standing, she brought one leg up to plant it firmly on the platform and rose to her feet. Afterwards, she turned her attention to Arisu once more with a smile on her flushed round face. "There," She paused for a moment to bring her breathing back to it's normal rate, pulling her arms up to hug across her torso as a chill struck her. "That was not so bad for a first timer, no?"
Modest celebratory comment out of the way, Rimma eyed the next few ledges still above her and asked. "What was this idea you had?"

WORD COUNT: TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy Rin was watching the two other girls with mild amusement. At the start of the year, Rin had gone to one of these obstacle courses. It was during the introduction week, where students hardly knew each other. It was that one chance all quirk wielders had begged for to start a new life. Rin had sworn that Yuuei would be a new start. A fresh beginning. A chance to break out of the shell of a person she had used to be. On this field, Rin had met with Yoruhi-san. They ended up, fortunately, being class mates. Rin had lied in regard to her quirk, explaining to him that it was a simple stamina increase. Thus the girl had been dashing around like crazy, with only slightly above average stamina, trying to make-believe that her quirk was something different than it truly was. Somehow, that fervor and desire had been apparent to Yoruhi-kun. Regardless of how many failures Rin had made, the fact that the girl kept going regardless, had been enough to somewhat gain the respect of her fellow classmate. Especially during the final little obstacle. Smirking softly, Rin wondered how these two may handle it. Comparing them to Yoruhi-kun and Rin herself, they might actually fare slightly better. Afterall, it was quite the handicap Rin and her partner had to overcome. "You're getting the basic idea Arisu-san. Utilize the environment to your advantage." Rin instructed quietly. Rather than giving any direct hints, the raven haired female was more than comfortable letting the two fresh students find their own way. As they made it onto the first two platforms, Rin gracefully wall-ran up to the same platform that Rimma-san was on, making it look absolutely effortless. Placing herself behind the other girl, giving her as much space as she possibly could, Rin added in a quiet tone. "Don't mind me, just here to catch you, should an accident happen. As we go up higher, the risk of falling increases." There was a certain seriousness to what Rin spoke. Almost an underlying pressure being laid onto the two girls. If they made mistakes as it got more critical, the mistake would also be more costly. That was the life of a hero, in many circumstances. Rin gave them both a soft, calm smile. A smile that soon faltered when the question was asked. Biting her lower lip, Rin broke any chance they would've had at eye contact. The girl was practically staring into the wall besides her. Those sapphire blue eyes almost seemed like common glass for a few short moments. Shame, agony... "As for failures, two students from our class were expelled. It's why you two had a chance to come in to replace them. They've uh... both walked down villainous paths. Each in their own way.." Rin scratched the side of her cheek. It was visible on her, how close she was at slipping into darker thoughts. Shaking her head, she wouldn't think about it. Not now, when she needed to focus on aiding the new students. "Therefore you both have to climb the wall expertly. I'm not having anyone else in our class expelled. We'll make up for what was lost, okay?" This type of leadership charisma that Rin undeniably had attained, had come from the two horrifying events that she had found herself in. The circus Kunshu had been the first real test. Rin had had to calm down people to protect them from animals, even ended up in a fight with a tiger... In the second one, none of the other students she had been trapped with underground had taken any time to address the twenty odd civilians together with them. Thus, not only was Rin the only functioning medic, she was also the one placed in charge of public relations. It had taken a few attempts, but eventually Rin had won the crowd over to their side. It had been a monumental feat for the otherwise crowd shy girl. It proved that her path to becoming a heroine was progressing, day by day, despite several setbacks. "Chop chop ladies, we don't have all day."

--- arisu --- - - -
Rin was on point as their instructor, rapidly handing out advice as Arisu did her best to find ways to adapt to the intensity of the exercise by taking cues from Rin herself and applying them to such gifts as she had. Meanwhile Rimma was, relievingly, at least initially confident in her ability to navigate upwards. That confidence gave Arisu the pause she needed to settle back and rest a bit, watching her friend start her way up the series of platforms... or, as it turned out, to completely fail to begin that vertical journey entirely. Undaunted, Rimma went at it again and forced- struggled- conquered her way onto the first ledge, by way of pendulum movement, gravity exploitation, and clever timing. All this made three things very clear.
Firstly. Rimma was smart. Second. Rimma was no athlete. Third. Rimma was gonna need more help than Arisu thought she could give to get her over this wall.
At the very least, that was Arisu's assessment from what she'd just watched. It was possible that Rimma might make it up given time, but she was more likely to end up winded and needing help down in Arisu's amateur opinion, and she thought the two of them could do better than that. Teamwork wasn't always about splitting the weight evenly. A lot of the time, it meant letting someone exercise an advantage to help mitigate someone else's weak spot.
Rin had their back, though, and made her way up the side of the wall to Rimma's position, stating her intention to ensure that their ascent was as safe as possible.
As safe as free-climbing between hotel balconies could be, essentially.
The pressure Rin implied was already starting to settle onto Arisu, and only firmed in her consciousness with the added emphasis from the brunette. She nodded sharply down from her higher position, looking up at the next position and thinking while Rimma caught her breath below and Rin explained what she'd meant. Two expulsions, each headed towards a villainous path. That's what had opened the registration slots for her and Rimma? That was... disheartening. Both to be reminded that others had been chosen first, and that those more promising students had already fallen by the wayside. But Rin succumbed to those dark thoughts more obviously than Arisu, and her own philanthropic nature kicked in, spurring her to nod sharply down at her class president. "We'll more than make up for it. We're gonna put those villain punks to shame. A good heart isn't a weakness, it's a strength! We'll show them." Her own determination shone in her response. Arisu was a fighter, but there were things that set her on edge and pushed her from defense to offense, and those willing to victimize those around them seemed to be one, if just the mention of such got her fired up.
As Rimma called up her question, Arisu looked upwards and brushed off her palms, a hard focused look on her face. "Stay where you are for now. I think I know how we can both get over pretty easily, and you won't have to risk losing so much progress every time you ascend. Lemme see if it's an option, okay?" That said, Arisu backed up to the edge of her platform and repeated her wall-hop, with a small alteration. This time, as she bounced off, she planted her hands nearer than necessary on the edge, and pushed off the ledge back towards the wall and scramblekicked her feet. It was clumsy, and not at all elegant, but instead of having to haul herself up, the last of her upwards momentum was conserved and sent her rolling over the edge with a sharp oof and not much more than a few scratches and scrapes to hamper her rise to her feet to do it again.
By the time Arisu got to the top platform, she was pretty solidly scratched up and not at all slowed by that fact. Tumbling along the concrete wasn't comfortable, but it did get her up quickly without overmuch risk of falling. It didn't take much more scrambling and scraping to get to the top of the wall, with the anchored rope leading down the other side. She peered down the edge.
If what she saw was a rope secured at the bottom as well, she was prepared to take a little flak for her plan. She flexed her right arm, spilling forth a few pulses of Antipyre before flinging it at the base of the rope, right at the edge of her range, aiming to crumble away the last little bit of the rope, free it, and give her free reign to toss the rope down the FIRST side of the wall towards Rimma. If it wasn't secured? She'd throw it over just like that! Apparently, that was her plan to get Rimma up- do the hard part herself and spare her slightly less athletic classmate the difficult vertical scrambles!

Rimma was very impressed as Rin effortlessly made it up to the first platform with her, and her gray-blue eyes going wide made that readily apparent. Of course, she had not doubted the other girl's ability - but to actually see such an effortless display up close and in person still left her momentarily distracted and amazed. The instruction not to mind her, though, snapped the Russian girl out of it and she flashed the girl an appreciative smile at the reassurance about being caught if she fell.
Then, her attention was back on Arisu - but only for a moment, as Rin continued speaking. An unsettling and... Despondent, perhaps, demeanor came over the other girl and Rimma couldn't help but wonder if she had been particularly good friends with the two she was talking about. Even if she hadn't, the idea of those who had signed up to be heroes ending up as villains was one that had the red-head's brow furrowing and cheeks puffing out in conflicted thought.
But, before she could attempt to give any input on the situation Rin changed the topic back to the task at hand. Rimma's expression turned neutral, then confident and focused as she gave a sharp nod of agreement as Arisu spoke up. "Yes! You will see, Rin-San - soon Arisu-Chan and I will be flying up the wall just as you do." Her tone reflected the confidence in her expression, and she stood a bit straighter as she prepared for whatever idea it was Arisu had in mind - she wasn't attempting to brag, but rather reassure their class president that her efforts would bear fruit.
As it turned out, though, whatever Arisu had in mind required Rimma to stay put. Brow furrowing again for a moment, not wanting to put too much work on the other girl, she none the less gave a nod to show her agreement and did as instructed. Peering up to watch Arisu's ascent, she couldn't help but be impressed with her athleticism - even if it wasn't as effortless and graceful as Rin, it did the job and was far better than Rimma herself would be able to manage at present.
Eventually, though, it became difficult to actually keep track of Arisu from all the way down on the first platform. Still, she kept her head craned back and her attention focused. Whatever Arisu's idea was, she wasn't going to simply laze around and relax while her friend did all the work.
Then, Arisu's plan was made apparent to her as a rope came falling down the side of the wall. That certainly did solve the issue of Rimma getting up - but she furrowed her brow and puffed her cheeks out once more in conflicted thought. Would it defeat the point of the training if she simply used a rope to bypass the platforms?
Pushing that out of mind, not wanting to waste Arisu's efforts, she reached out to firmly grab the rope with both hands. Glancing up the wall towards the girl at the top, she called out. "Is it secure and safe to climb up?" After which, she would wait for a moment to get a response.
Assuming Arisu confirmed it was okay to climb, Rimma would take a deep breath to prepare herself before pulling taut on the rope and attempting to plant one foot firmly on the side of the wall - wobbling for a moment before her second foot came up to join it. For a second she stood there like that, bent into an 'L' shape with her hands tightly gripping the rope and her legs planted on the wall.
Then, slowly, she pulled her torso up a little higher before bringing one foot off the wall and stepping further upwards. One hand reached up off the rope to do the same, and perhaps Arisu had simply intended to pull her up but Rimma was not going to simply be a burden and do no work herself - besides, training and exercise required sweat and exhaustion in order to see improvements.
So, she continued with her round face screwed up in concentration. Her pale skin was a little flushed as she went, and her breath came out in steady puffs of frosted air. Long red hair swayed from side to side behind her, and from her motions it was obvious she had never scaled a wall in such a manner before - or scaled any wall, for that matter.
At first her steps were slow, uncertain and wobbling and a few times she had to bring her foot back down to keep from losing her balance entirely. Rimma learned from each little mistake, though, and slowly but surely she got the hang of it. By the time she would reach the top, her hands would be a little sore from tightly gripping the rope and her arms and legs a little shaky from the prolonged strain.
The entire trip up the wall she would keep her focus on climbing, not sparing the attention or energy to further conversation that might be going on. When she finally needed to pull herself to the top, she would accept any helping hand that might be offered - but would simply awkwardly manage it herself if not. Taking a moment to catch her breath and shake out the tingly numb feeling from her hands, she would flash Arisu a grateful smile once she had recovered.
"That worked well, no?" As she said that, she would glance back down the wall to get an idea of how far she had climbed - expression just briefly flashing a look of discomfort. She was not afraid of heights, but to be so high up without a railing or any such thing was not something she was used to. Forcing that aside, the Russian girl turned her attention to the other side and asked. "Now we go down the other side?"

WORD COUNT: TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy The raven haired female scratched her cheek as the little ploy was revealed. Ruining the rope certainly wasn't the most expensive thing to replace, if the faculty asked for damage control. In all of the things that could be done, naturally this was the least destructive option. None the less, it was still destructive. Thus, Rin cleared her throat to explain the situation that they were in, hopefully putting a bit of a teaching spin onto it. "Naturally, you're going to have to replace the rope, Arisu-san. Even so, I imagine that doing our jobs out in the world, we cannot prevent a certain loss of objects. Careful consideration as to how you use your powers are always essential." Beyond that, there wasn't much else that Rin could say. As Arisu-san was the one who would have to reimburse Yuuei for the destroyed material, the only one that could decide whether it had been worth it or not was her. Stretching quietly, Rin stepped back, took a running start and jumped. In mere moments, she had joined the two other girls at the top. Gesturing to the rope, the little class-president lesson for the newbies continued. "Naturally, reaching the top of an obstacle quickly is not our only task. We also need to descend quickly." Rin carefully took the rope to demonstrate. Without so much as a moment's hesitation, the girl began practically sliding down the rope, having her legs occasionally kick her off of the wall, just enough that she wasn't ever going to touch it with anything but her feet. It only took seconds for Rin to have reached the bottom. With how cold and slippery the rope was, going as fast as her could easily cause ones hands to lose grip..."Alright, your turn! Mind the rope, it is extremely slippery. Rather go slow than haphazardly." Standing below the rapelling wall, Rin was watching upwards, waiting for the two students to get moving. In so far, Rin quite liked them. Both of them seemed to be doing their best, and trusted in the fact that they weren't going to get hurt if Rin did her job properly. They were both trying their hardest, with obstacles that for new students quite honestly seemed daunting. There wasn't much time to relax or chill here at Yuuei. Tomorrow always brought more challenging obstacles than today. Some of them personal. Some of them nightmares that would haunt you forever. Shuddering, perhaps the others would consider it an effect of the cold weather. Behind Rin, were two short track fields, leading them to the next obstacle. An obstacle which Rin remembered all too fondly from her last time here.It was essentially a loosely attached wooden beam, placed over a pit. The wooden beam could roll around freely, demanding an excellent sense of balance if they were to move across it without falling. Which they'd certainly want, because the pit had a lovely greeting of half-frozen mud at the bottom. In summer, the mud had dried to Yoruhi-san's skin, essentially making him a sheet of sand paper. Here, not only would it suck to fall off, they'd also very quickly get very cold. Aside from the beam however, there were also five swinging sand bags. It meant that you needed to time your movement, time your balance, and consider your approach long before you even began traversing the beam. A single mistake would cause the beam to rotate or a sandbag to knock you off. Even then, it wouldn't be the worst obstacle they'd need to face. The final one had been downright horrifying. Shuddering again, Rin remembered fully how that had transpired, and while herself and Yoruhi-san had managed to get through the conflict mostly unscathed, it'd remain an experience she wouldn't soon forget. "Normally we'd time you, but as this is your first ever experience with the obstacle course, I've chosen to simply give you a run through. In the future, you'll be competing against the best times set on school. It's sort of a competition and training at the same time." Rin smiled up to the both of them.

--- arisu --- - Down And Out And Over And Ow -
"Don't worry! It's anchored up here. It'll be alright, climb up, I'll help you clear the last bit!" Arisu called down as Rimma wondered if it'd be safe to ascend the rope. She spent the time while Rimma worked her way slowly up the wall to get comfortable and secure at the top, so that- once Rimma makes it high enough- she can help the smaller girl up without losing her balance or unseating Rimma herself. This, she attained by straddling the top of the wall, making it an easy thing to reach down and haul Rimma up that last bit atop the wall itself.
"Yeah, I know. It's okay. I don't think it'll cost all that much, and trite as it sounds, I feel like giving Rimma the chance to haul herself up the wall under her own power is probably worth the yen. I'll pick up some chores around the school if I can't fully fund the rope fast enough," Arisu said, loud enough to be sure that Rin could hear her, giving Rimma time to catch her breath. Something she was coming to pick up was that it seemed more important than ever to focus on her cardio- having the umph to keep at things had been proving useful over and over.
Eyeing the rope and how rapidly Rin descended, Arisu frowned. She was pretty sure that even wet, the rope was likely to burn her hands if she went down that fast, and she wasn't entirely sure she could grip hard enough to prevent that with the cold, slick rope. So, she improvised. She stripped off the outer jacket of her tracksuit and wrapped it, outer shell turned inwards, around the rope, giving her a mobile sleeve to squeeze to control her descent with no fear of rope burn. She flashed Rimma an encouraging smile, then squeezed hard and let her weight swing off the top of the wall, feet planted against the concrete.
She didn't descend for a few moments, getting a feel for what this balancing act was like. She bounced on her feet off the wall once or twice- that was how Rin kept control without losing speed to the drag of rubber on rock. She loosened her grip a touch, and immediately slid downwards, shifting the angle of her legs with a startled yelp and a relieved laugh when she arrested her drop. Replanting her feet, she did, once more, as she'd seen Rin do, just somewhat more clumsily and more carefully. She didn't make nearly Rin's time, but she got down safely and unraveled her jacket, shaking it to be sure no stray rope fibers came for the ride. That done, she waited patiently for Rimma to descend at her own pace, calling up gentle, bright encouragement at stark contrast with her growing anxiety for what might come next, which she did well to keep hidden.
... anxiety that was well founded when, a few moments later, she was faced with the wooden beam and the sandbags swinging across. The mud below looked... horribly cold and gross and nasty. She considered her chances keeping her balance- slim- and her chances of keeping her balance while timing darts between the sand bags- minimal- and made her decision quickly. She momentarily entertained the idea of shimmying along beneath the beam, using her jacket as a loop to keep her attached, but at the end of the day, she wasn't sure she wanted to put her jacket through that, wasn't sure her jacket would survive it, and didn't want to subvert the task so thoroughly.
Arisu stepped up first and flashed Rimma a solid thumbs up, completely missing Rin's shuddering and writing it up to simple cold, with no insight into Rin's inner thoughts. Would she have stepped up and tried to comfort the other girl? Of course, but at the end of a day, no man is an island- and every man is. She tied her jacket around her waist, leaving her in her tank top, and started across with her arms held straight out at her sides.
It didn't take long before she started to lose her balance, but she had a plan! A quick burst of black flames rushed down her arm, pushing her slightly back upright, helping her keep her balance. Each time she started to sway? A burst of flames, a quick adjustment, and she continued. The flames were clumsy and didn't carry much push, but it was enough to proactively correct herself.
She paused at the swinging sandbags, calling back, "I just want you to know that it did occur to me that this would be far easier if I shot down the sandbags!! This is honor, not a lack of- wnnngh- creative thought!!" She groaned as she corrected her balance mid-gripe, wobbling and fighting with herself as she stood a foot or two short of the swinging sandbags, considering everything.
She'd need to start at the right time, stop at the right time, hold her balance, catch the timing on the next sandbag, repeat. For this, she took her time. Her core was getting sore from shifting her balance constantly, her arms were freezing, the dark trickle of Antipyre poisoning was starting to show at her wrists, and focus was getting to be in short supply.
Her first attempt to pass the sandbag was nearly disastrous. She misjudged the time it would take to start to move from a dead stop, and nearly stepped into the path of the sandbag! She had to jerk backwards and fight for her footing as the plank rolled, threatening a quick drop and a short, nasty stop. Her arms windmilled, spewing black fire, and just bought her enough time to get her feet beneath her again, all amidst a panicked, keening whine from the girl on the board. With that learning experience under her belt, though, it became a matter of very... very careful repetition, with the greatest drain, to be honest, on her focus and stamina rather than her sheer balance or speed. Holding her positions long enough to get the right patterns, moving when it felt like she was going to walk into the side of a sandbag but as a result wasting the time building speed before she was in danger, and having time to slow safely before the next sandbag. That dark trickle was easing up her arms, painting her veins in slow creepers towards her elbows, by the time she made it past the last sandbag and hurried past the last stretch, supporting herself with a steady stream of black flames to make it easier to balance and rush.
Reaching the other side, she collapsed and whined loudly, moving only long enough to get her jacket on backwards and cover her arms as she lay flat on her back. Her belly ached, her arms were frozen, and her head was fuzzy from focusing so hard for so long. If the girls had anything to say, she was probably gonna miss it!
