Most people have an erroneous concept of what an army is. They’ll think of the men, of the rifles, of the tanks, maybe of the generals. All of this is wrong. An army is, at its core, an organization. A main battle tank is an impressive sight of a machine which delivers equally impressive results, but one tank alone is worthless.
You need four qualified crewmen working in unison to operate it. You need a full team of engineers to repair it. You need supply lines to get the replacement parts and fuels and shells required to keep it in action. In combat, if it is not supported by infantry and anti-air canons, it will get overrun; a grenade down the hatch will kill a tank as well as an air-ground missile. To keep up with the tank, the infantry needs their own support vehicles, and with them their own teams of engineers and their own supply of fuel and replacement parts.
Ever since Sun Tzu wrote the Art of War, and arguably long before that, we have known that when one army defeats another, they never wipe it off the face of the planet; it is extremely rare to see more than 20% casualties on the losing side. Soldiers break and flee before they get all killed when they feel their side can no longer provide them with cover, with more ammunition, with more replacement vehicles. Heroic last stands and tales of bravery are the stuff of stories. Battles were won and lost on organization and logistics for all of human history.
Such a worldview is now challenged by the existence of quirks, allowing single individuals to accomplish incredible feats using only the tools their bodies were born with, feats that were previously only possible through great cooperation and organization and ingeniosity. Some among the military feel threatened by the rapid change that has taken hold of the world. The presence of quirkers at the base in the last two weeks has only served to reinforce these views; and while some welcome the change Quirks could bring to the Japanese Self-Defense Forces, a rift was inevitable.
Something was about to happen in the military base, and the armory was likely to be a key point of interest in a conflict that would define the future of both heroics and the JSDF. The 10th Logistics Bataillon’s motto of “only through unity can we bring victory” was about to be tested and challenged. Sides were about to be taken.
What about you? Which side will you be on?
This part of the finale will be coordinated by your beloved (he hopes) Darren. It will be death-enabled, like every finale. The difficulty level will be between E-D, meaning between characters who have a 500-1000xp worth of combat abilities should survive the event, so long as they don't do anything stupid. The reward for this difficulty is 2 EP.
I will accomodate as much people as possible. If there are a lot of signups, I will divide the finale in two separate threads. You have 48h to post from the moment it becomes your turn; you can DM me for an extension if IRL is being a bitch, but do be aware that this is a big site event with major story implications, so a certain level of activity IS expected. Do not sign up for the event if you don't think you can post in time; you WILL be skipped and your character might end up in a bad situation, or even dead if you miss multiple turns.
Sign up by copy-pasting the code below with the required information. I will try to accomodate everyone if they want to end up in the same thread, but this is not guaranteed.
Character Name: (Name here)
Discord Name: (Who are you on discord)
Affiliation: (What class are you in UA? Are you a civ, a villian? a vig?)
Requests: (List up to 2 other characters that you would like to be paired with. This is no guarantee.)
All this being said, I hope you will all enjoy the finale! Expect lots of opportunities for big damn heroes moments, lots of action, lots of big guns that go big boom and lots of fun, I hope!
