Cian had carefully put together a number of group rescue exercises with the opening of Semper Fi. Their rescue facilities were top notch and he wanted to use the opportunity to teach his classes a very valuable lesson. The school year was in full swing and it was time that he provided them with a big challenge. That in of itself was a big channel for Cian. He had to craft puzzles for the students to make creative use of their quirks and put them in a situation where they had t work together to complete the objective. This most important part of this class was learning to work together with people that didn't interact too much. He knew that some of the students knew each other, but he designed the groups to have from different classes. This way he could do his best to ensure they weren't too familiar with each other. It was a fun idea and he had a lot of fun putting together the courses for the students. And naturally, he couldn't help but place little mental bets on how each student was going to handle each situation. Often times there were new attractions that came to Japan to celebrate the past. While European countries had a renaissance fair of sorts, Japan had their own Feudal fair for those that loved that time period. It was a place were people dressed up in costume and roleplayed a person from the area to their liking. It was a time of fun and recognition of the past in Japan's currently area. And like the circus of the past, accidents, and chaos could happen at these types of gatherings. Something could go wrong or it could be attacked in some way where rescue was needed. And while many would keep to character thinking it was a part of the show, one everything had broken down it was clear that it was time to evacuate. Unfortunately, not every person could get away that easily and needed help. In the panic, it was easy for a person to get left behind in the rush and that was where heroes needed to step in. In fact, there were nine targets that needed to be rescued and place in the marked off spot at the beginning of the course. It was going to take place in a feudal area replica castle with the starting point right next to the marked off spot. Once the students were gathered and through the gates, the class could begin. A mannequin was stuck behind a set of three sliding doors. They were your classic wood and paper Japanese doors that served as dividers between rooms. With each door that was opened, a trap would be set off that the students how to watch out for. The first would open up a trap door where a person would be standing to slide open the door. It would drop them to the floor below, making it so that they would have to reach the room again to continue. The second door would drop planks of wood from above that the students had to watch out for. And the final door set off a time-based trap that caused the tatami mats the lined the floor of the room the mannequin was in to fall into the floor below. The student opening the door had to be quick in grabbing the mannequin and escaping before all the mats were gone. In another section of the faux castle a mannequin laid on the edge of the slanted roof, This roof was slick and unstable, making it so that any student that climbed on to it would slip down the side the mannequin was on. They had to aim themselves properly to slide toward the mannequin and grab it for a rescue while they slid down and off the roof. It was important to make sure the mannequin was safe during the landing from off the roof to make sure that it wasn't damaged. And, of course, a mannequin was buried under a pile of wood support beams that fell down. It was going to take the combined might of all three students to move it. Trying to cut or blast away the wood could result in the whole room collapsing if it wasn't done carefully, so the students had to make sure of that as well. There was a part of the castle, which was reserved for a courtyard pond, with a mannequin at the bottom. It required someone to dive into the pond and maneuver through the netting draped within it to get to the mannequin and bring it back out. Naturally, the pond would soak anything that went inside of it and would wash away anything coating that person or object. Another mannequin was trapped in a room that had a single window that could be seen from the front courtyard. The room that it was in was locked and couldn't be accessed directly. A small winding shaft used for ventilation was the only passage inside but was too small for any of the students to crawl through. They had to find something else that could navigate the shaft and unlock the door form the inside. In the basement of the mock castle was an empty storage room. A single mannequin laid in the back of it alone and in the dark. And once the lights in the room were turned on, it would reveal why the storage room was emptied. A number of metal tools were stuck to the metal wall within. The room's walls were magnetized. Any presence of metal even below the surface of the skin, if there are more than a usual amount of it, would immediately be pulled to the walls and stuck there until the mannequin was rescued. Another mannequin was trapped behind a room with a large metal door. It was sturdy and couldn't simply be broken down. Opening the door simply required a key, but that key wasn't available to the students. Either the lock had to be picked or a substitute for the key had to be made in some way to open it. The mannequin inside was close tot he door, so opening it too suddenly should the students figure out how could also damage the mannequin. In the fake castle's kitchen, a mannequin was in the deep freezer. It was overloaded and making the freezer colder than it should have been. Staying inside of it for too long would cause frostbite and instantly freeze any moisture present. The mannequin had to be found inside of the walk-in freezer very quickly and even it wouldn't last for too long. In five rounds, the mannequin would be too frozen to move safely and could break if force was applied. The final mannequin was locked behind a sturdy glass door. It could be seen sitting in a chair on the far side of the room. This glass door was pretty much a blast shield. it could take any form of blunt force, cut, or explosion thrown at it. However, it did have one small weak point. A small slot at the center of the blast shield just big enough for a playing card was the only weak point If something small enough and with enough explosive force could be placed inside of that slot, surely the shield would come down. The class will end once all mannequins are rescued and brought back to the safety zone, or time runs out (the event ends and the topics closed). This is not an exam, but a class. Students are here to learn and practice, not compete with the other squads to do things the best way. Mistakes are allowed. The important thing here is for students to learn to work together for a common goal. Aside from the stuff in this opening post, the topic and setting are free to use and proceed as you wish. If you have any questions, contact me on the discord. From this point on the student shave free reign and I will not be replying to the topic unless needed for something specific and by request. Have fun with it!

| ◀ | The heart is a heavy burden ❤ Not the kind of person that would join such a festival and besides it was a form of a class, Rowan was dressed in a black pair of skinny jeans, a red t-shirt and a leather jacket, her hair up in the usual knot so it would not get in her face and form a distraction. She was waiting for the other two to show up before they would take on well, rescue mission was the best word probably.
She was not even surprised with what the semper fi people and her school had managed to create, nothing surprised her anymore after the huge watertank that she had seen twice now during her rescue mission with Miku and the survival island adventure. She looked at the castle and wondered how the hell they would have to be able to find all the people. She would not want to take the lead and would first have to see how the others acted int his situation before that she would take a stance in the opinion that her mind was already forming.
Her other side, The Burning Lady found this rescue mission absolutely ridiculous, burning down the castle was enough, who would miss such people? But Rowan let her not make the decisions as she wanted to do good. She hoped the others would be here soon. |

Post by Tetsuko Shindou on Sept 20, 2018 9:11:51 GMT -4
As Tetsuko threw on her typical short-sleeved tracksuit, the young swordswoman thought to herself once again how imperative it was that she have Ericka build that superhero suit for her. The Shindou girl already had an idea in mind of the design, an appropriate basis for her skills and mindset, and one that would be effective when used in conjunction with her Quirk. It was just a matter of, well, actually getting the damn thing built. So, for now, Tetsuko simply had to be content with that navy blue tracksuit of hers, which she’d don alongside a pair of nice joggers before heading off to the rescue area.
Though the young Shindou didn’t know by what metric the JSDF would be measuring the performance of this special military camp, it was hard to deny that it certainly seemed like a huge success. Attendance by quirked individuals was suitably high, and even UA had taken every opportunity to utilize the facilities. From individual classes to specialized training sessions, such as their current undertaking.
Having already made extensive use of the camp, Tetsuko was eager as ever to see how she could grow and learn from this new trial set up. Approaching the gates where they’d be starting from once gathered, Tetsuko would spot a certain fiery lass who she’d actually encountered before, within activities organized by the cooking club, of course. This girl would, of course, be one of her partners for the day.
”Rowan-san, it’s nice to meet you again.” Tetsuko would greet with a small bow as she approached, looking at the castle that was to be the course of this challenge. The Japanese history nerd within Tetsuko was trying hard not to be too impressed by the recreation and traditional charm, but it was hard to suppress. So, instead, she focused on getting the strategy talks rolling before their other ally arrived.
”So, do you have any ideas or plans? I’m thinking we might want to split up, and cover more ground, but I won’t take the risk if you guys don’t want to.” She’d suggest casually, thinking over the scenario. Splitting up would indeed allow them to get to the individual rescues more quickly, but they also ran the risk of ending up in a situation they couldn’t handle on their own. Add to that the fact that communication between them seemed to be limited, and it certainly seemed like a potentially unsafe option… Though, was it more unsafe than leaving the civilians unsaved for longer? It was certainly something for them to figure out.
And hopefully, they’d be able to sort out their plans quickly, as Tetsuko was ready and rearing to go whenever they were all gathered and ready to enter through the gates and start their exciting little trial.

i wonder how many wishes a star can give Butterflies swirled in his gut. Another round of Instructor Cian’s relentless, but inarguably valuable, rescue exercises. Unlike the previous, this one pulled in students from every class, a fantastic opportunity to better acquaint himself with those who walked the same halls. Since today's challenge made use of off-campus resources, constructed on the military's dime, the young trainee felt it was finally appropriate to pull out all the stops and arrive fully equipped. Enter Kutsu, donned in a muted orange kangaroo onesie. His hood was raised, displaying the mascot's embroidered face above his own. A nubby tail poked out from behind. Attached at the center of his white underbelly was a pouch, generously sized and packed with a rainbow of teddy bears. Its opening was zipped shut, but the contents inside squirmed, little bulges dancing through the fabric over his stomach. His good friend, Pasta the Seven-Legged Octopus Plushie, lay shrugged over his shoulders like a feather boa. "Tetsuko, hi!" He waved zealously, the ears of his costume flopping hard with each sweep. The octopus sitting behind his head also wiggled her arms in salutations. Relief hugged his heart at the sight of a familiar figure. A few rounds at the explosives facility had helped solidify her profile in his memory. As nice as it was to meet new faces, having an anchor helped smoothen these initial interactions. "You're thinking about splitting up? That sounds like a good plan, I trust you." He'd never encountered a mock emergency scenario like this, and given the exotic layout of the land, a more distributed approach did seem to cover more ground in less time. Plus, Tetsuko felt dependable, and he much preferred to rely on her judgement rather than his own. He turned to his second partner, a student he hadn't met yet, and offered her a polite wave and grin. "I'm Kutsu from Class 1-C, nice to meet you."A quick visual sweep at the two girls suddenly made him doubt his choice to bring his entire hero costume. The stranger was dressed quite casually. Plop her in a grocery store and nobody would bat an eye. Tetsuko's sportswear also fit right in. Maybe he'd gone overboard. Shaking his head to avoid overthinking, the boy fiddled with his kangaroo pouch and snagged two bear plushies. He handed one to each of his partners. "This is Lemon, and this one's Plum." Bright yellow for Tetsuko, and a deep purple one for the other. The stuffed toys fidgeted, but Kutsu soothed them with a hushed command to obey their new temporary owners. He stepped back and clapped his hands together. "If you're in trouble, these little buddies might be able to help. Just tell them what to do and they should listen." As he explained their purpose, something stirred in the back of his brain. He ignored the feeling for now. Fists raised in the air, Kutsu couldn't wait to kick off the exercise. "Alright!" he cheered. "I guess we should start. I can check inside the house. I'll give a shout if I find anything."Without waiting for confirmation, he spun on his heels and embarked toward the manor. Surely there must be mannequins in there. Relaxed, he slid open the entrance. "So how many mannequins were—AHH!" As soon as he lifted his foot to step inside, the ground disappeared. Gravity yanked Kutsu into a stack of hay, meters below. He lay there, faceup, reorienting. A groan echoed from the pit, the first trap. Kutsu took a deep breath, hoping the others above were still nearby. "Hello? Can anyone hear me?" he shouted to the sky above. "I'm in a dilemma."How shameful. A rescue hero in need of rescuing. If this was what Cian did with government funding, then perhaps it was best for the school to maintain a low budget.
wc: 635 tags: Rowan Sakamoto Tetsuko Shindou NOTE: kutsu forgot about this, but the plushies stop obeying any orders when they're more than 20 feet away from him. so if the girls still have the bears and get too far from him, the bears will try to escape 😬

| ◀ | The heart is a heavy burden ❤ The first person to show up was Tetsuko and at least Rowan was glad to know that she knew this person, so she felt a bit off relief. Tetsuko was dressed in a track-suit and perhaps she should have done that as well but Rowan had worked out that wearing a pair of trousers already made things more easy for her than the skirts and dresses she wore normally. She made the same little bow for Tetsuko as she had learned that, she did not often use it but she wanted to show her respect for her well, classmate. They were perhaps not in the same class but same year she believed after their adventure at the cooking club. "It's good to see you, Tetsuko-san." She said with a smile.
Now they only had to wait for the third person and that one did surprise the spark-user. She was not entirely satisfied with the whole idea but instead of saying something, she simply pushed per pink lips firmly onto each other to not make any hateful comments about a kangaroo suit. If it would not serve this person as a problem, then why would she make it one? She was so taken by surprise that she did not even answer Tetsuko her question. "I am Rowan from 1-A, nice to meet you too." She said a bit unsure, it was just that the assumptions were already making a mess in her brain and The Burning Lady was only laughing. She could not keep her eyes of Kutsu as she had no idea what to say about it or where to start, so she remembered Tetsuko's question, "I don't mind splitting up but we should perhaps split up strategically, not too far from each other in case someone needs help." She finally looked away because she got a teddy bear in her hands, that she held very far away from her body as it squirmed... how the.. it must be his quirk! That took her long to realize. "This can be useful." She mentioned now that Plum stopped squirming and Kutsu explained the idea.
Her brain was a bit of a mess, still, so she followed rather slowly when Kutsu turned around to walk to the castle. She shook her head lightly as she would rather have them form a plan instead of embarking without one. However, that was perhaps the idea of the plushy. Before she could do anything, she had to hurry up as she heard a yelp from Kutsu. She looked down in the gap and back at Tetsuko, either they would have to jump down or something but that would make them start at a big disadvantage. "Is there a door or something in that room? Perhaps there is a cellar where you are now? You can check the floor over there while we stay up until you find a way up?" Was her overall not-so-sure question. She did not mean to say they would do nothing and wait, but perhaps she and Tetsuko, albeit near to each other, could start on this floor to find the mannequins. |

Post by Tetsuko Shindou on Oct 10, 2018 8:07:45 GMT -4
Pleasantly dignified as usual, Rowan returned Tetsuko's bow and kind greeting, painting a contented smile on the swordswoman's face. Her experiences with persons from other classes had been a bit... Mixed, to say the least, so the presence of someone who seemed to have their wits about them, and had proven themselves formal and composed, was a relief to Tetsuko Shindou. Of course, already knowing the girl from their cooking club adventure also made it all the more easier to trust Rowan and work alongside her.
The final piece to their trio arrived shortly after, and much like Rowan, was someone Tetsuko had met before, and someone who she found pleasant enough to be around. He was, however, a bit... Well, there was no better way to say it than 'odd'. His arrival cemented his possession of that trait in Tetsuko's mind. Blue eyes widened at the sight of the kangaroo suit, her mouth slightly agape as she processed the information. She'd completely forgotten about the question she'd just asked Rowan, she was so taken aback by this reveal! With utterly no idea how to even respond, Tetsuko deemed the best course of action to just go with it for now, and hope Kutsu would chime in with an explanation as to his odd appearance.
As he waved enthusiastically, Tetsuko returned the gesture to the young boy. And his octopus. That criminally adorable Quirk of his was quite the unique ability, one that the Shindou girl couldn't even begin to understand. All she needed to know was that these stuffed creatures were much more than met the eye in the hands of Kutsushita Ito. "Hey, good to see you again, Kutsu-san." Tetsuko greeted, recalling the nickname he preferred to go by.
He mentioned the question the swordswoman had asked then forgotten entirely about, prompting a response from Rowan that expanded upon the idea. Nodding in affirmation, Tetsuko commented. "I agree. It's possible we'll run into situations that we can't handle by ourselves, so being able to switch to working as a group is ideal." The more Tetsuko actually thought on it, the more she realized how likely it was that teamwork would be necessary. After all, this wouldn't be a team exercise if it weren't a vital part of their approach.
Having received no explanation as of yet to why Kutsu had that kangaroo suit, Tetsuko decided to simply assume it was his Hero suit and move on. Yeah, that made the most sense. Her suspicion seemed to be confirmed when he displayed its usefulness, poking around in his 'pouch' to retrieve a pair of bears, which he promptly handed to the two girls. Taking 'Lemon' into her hands, Tetsuko would hold it hesitantly as he explained what to do with them, how these little helpers would obey any command if they found themselves in a pinch. As Rowan herself said, it would be useful. "Happy to be working with you, Lemon..." Tetsuko uttered quietly before they were off to take on this rescue exercise.
Though they'd only really formulated the beginnings of a plan, Tetsuko was quite eager to begin herself, so didn't think they needed to do too much in the way of strategy before entering. After all, most of the challenges within wouldn't become known to them until they were actually face to face with them. Speaking of which, as Tetsuko followed Kutsu to the first room, the moment he stepped in the boy suddenly plummetted right before her, the ground seeming to disappear from beneath his feet! "Kutsu-san!" Tetsuko shouted out, stepping forward and quickly glancing down the now present hole, only to see the young lad at the bottom and in dire need of help. Fortunately, thanks to a certain technique Tetsuko had been practicing as if late, she felt able to respond to the boy's cries for help.
"Hang on, I think I can get you." Tetsuko stated, propping Lemon on one of her shoulders before she knelt down before the drop, glancing over at the other side. "Though... We're gonna need to get across to the next room anyway. Rowan-san, can you look for something to help with that?" Tetsuko asked, before turning back to Kutsu. She'd extend her arm towards him, fist clenched, and from the back of her hand iron would emerge, in the shape of a long, somewhat thin and flexible iron band as more iron was drawn out, that band would stretch down to Kutsu, until it was dangling before him. Meanwhile, iron spurs sprouted from the soles of Tetsuko's feet to keep her planted.
"Grab on, or tie it around your hand, and I'll try and pull you up." Hopefully that suit of his wasn't too heavy, otherwise there might be a few problems! Assuming all went well, Tetsuko would aim to lift Kutsu from his pit with a technique that she had, in truth, originally been designed as a binding technique. Well, same tool, different job, now she just needed to see the effectiveness.

i wonder how many wishes a star can give Just as he’d feared, two pairs of quizzical eyes formed their unsaid opinions of him upon arrival. He sensed no malice, at least refused to believe there was, but it left him second guessing his costume design. No matter how he sliced it, though, his alternatives were sparse. Hauling stubborn, fidgety little creatures around the city would only slow him down. Backpacks, the obvious choice, didn’t suit on-the-spot access, and frankly, strapping one to his front closely contended with the ridiculousness of a kangaroo pouch. Despite justifying it to himself, he had to wonder if a redesign would save him trouble down the road. He made a mental note to consult Mari later. Still, he felt lucky to avoid overblowing the issue. His two partners, as reserved as they were, let his appearance slide. Whether it was out of politeness or contempt, he couldn't say, but getting right to business helped everyone focus. "It's nice to meet you, Rowan." He aimed a toothy grin in her direction, eager to get started. Paternal pride swelled in his heart at the plush toys' positive reception. Picking the right recruits, among bears and rabbits and octopi, was always tough, especially with an inventory as broad as his, but if these two nodded along seemingly cognizant of their utility, then perhaps he could afford to trust his ability to play critical role here. Unfortunately, in this exercise, relying solely on his own homemade soldiers wouldn't get him very far. He sat dazed, stiff straws of hay pricking every contacting surface of his body while musty odor exacerbated his chagrin. A concerned voice, Rowan's, suggested he find an exit. "I don't see a way out!" His reply dripped with panic. Whoever constructed this pit didn't intend to keep it pristine. Dirt and rocks made up the walls, offering no hint of any secret door, so he began to swim through the grassy cushioning in search for one at the bottom. He didn't want to use Pasta, on the off chance she'd overexert herself and get torn apart. Using her as safety gear for rock climbing was fine, because all she had to do was hold tight and let him not fall. Lifting him several meets off the ground, on the other hand, wasn't something he wanted to experiment with right now. Luckily, he didn't have to drown himself in that effort, because help arrived. "Hang on, buddy," he told the spandex octopus hugging his shoulders. He wrapped the band around his forearm, careful not to cut himself, then gently tugged to signal his readiness. His weight wasn't abnormally high, but for an adolescent student, he imagined heaving him up would prove problematic. Setting his feet against the wall, he attempted to scale up the pit with Tetsuko as anchor, but surprisingly, he felt the iron assist him. After a brief struggle, the dust-covered boy rediscovered pavement, and he rolled over back onto his feet. "You're a real lifesaver," he breathed, one part humor, two parts relief. As a token of gratitude, Pasta hopped off his neck and wrapped herself around the blonde in a giddy embrace. "Hey, careful!" Directed at his seven-legged soldier, he didn't want to startle the girl. Sparing a glance at the historical facade looming over them, he nodded slowly before admitting his mistake. "Yeah, you're right. We should scout the place together, at least for now." If the three of them had immediately parted ways at the start, then he might've been trapped down there for the entirety of this mock mission. His worst performance at his designated best zone. On the bright side, at least they discovered the first trap without dragging down the whole team. That made recovery all the faster. Time was ticking, though, and after his little stunt, they couldn't afford any more errors. He turned to the dark-haired student. "I'm going to hijack Plum for a bit." Mumbling some commands into textile ears, he gave Rowan an apologetic grin as the purple teddy wriggled out of her grasp and beelined toward the second entryway. He motioned his two partners to follow him, around hole and into the first room. On the other side, Plum managed to wrench the door open, an impressive feat for such a tiny form. The animated toy's success, however, was sadly rewarded with wooden rainfall. "Plum!" A noble sacrifice for the greater good. Leaping to his rescue, Kutsu threw aside the pile of logs and freed his brave, brave soldier. His cursory inspection told him he survived without a crack to his shell. A celebratory exhale followed by a no-nonsense stare at the allies behind him. "This whole place is rigged." First a pit, now falling beams. Going solo really was a bad idea. If they each got separately incapacitated, then they'd all be at a deadlock. "But if we move together, we might not find all the mannequins in time." To design a setting with such difficult tradeoffs, their instructor must have had high hopes for them.

| ◀ | The heart is a heavy burden ❤ "Ehm sure," Rowan said looking left and right, trying to see if she could do something now Tetsuko gave her a job to do. The thing was that she was sure there must be something to do only she wanted to make sure that Tetsuko did not fall in as well, not entirely sure how her quirk worked so she looked left and right, the hallway wasn't that much bigger to manoeuvre around but there was another hallway that walked towards the other side instead of straight ahead, she walked there but kept looking over her shoulder until she heard a confirming sound that it worked out anyway, she came back with Plum and she had found a sort of ladder, "Perhaps it is for another saving action but I found this." She said, not entirely sure what it was for but if they had looked around before, they could have used it to save Ito-kun. She gave a wry smile as she looked up at the two, "At least we know that we have a hero around with Tetsuko-san." She said as a matter of a compliment. She placed the ladder carefully over the gap and wondered what would be the best approach and if the ladder would support them and if she should be able to take it along with her.
She looked from one at the other, not sure if anyone wanted to go first, "Oh sure." She said when Ito-kun took back Plum, it was his after all but she wondered what the plan was. She let go of Plum as soon as the toy started to squirm again, she at least was glad she did not drop it, how bad would that have looked. Their way continued and Rowan looked over her shoulder to Tetsuko as a silent question about what to do with that ladder, it must be there for something and she hoped she did not ruin it by keeping it there. She turned to look back when she heard a door being opened and, she quickly placed her hands over her ears and stared at the disaster in front of her, surely this could be on them and she felt guilty for being happy it was Plum, was that bad? It was probably the use of Ito-kun his quirk, right?
"Yes, that's a thing." She tapped her chin and walked to the other door, she was surely prepared for something as she looked at the floor, not sure if she saw any cracks, "Just, let me try this." She muttered, she could not really hold onto something as the doors were like those Japanese paper doors. "Perhaps we should stay close but wander off a bit?" She clenched her fist softly and wondered would it set the trap if she would explode a part of the door? Or just like pull her hand through it? She looked at Tetsuko and Ito and couldn't help but grin for such a stupid idea, "Why open a door if you can just... you know break it? Would you rather be sad about a door or happy about saving your life?" She did not wait but scratched it open and noticed the mannequin, still unsure to open the door, she continued to go on with her own idea and managed to save the thing without setting off a trap. She was just lucky for now, "Let's quickly continue!" |
