Cian had carefully put together a number of group rescue exercises with the opening of Semper Fi. Their rescue facilities were top notch and he wanted to use the opportunity to teach his classes a very valuable lesson. The school year was in full swing and it was time that he provided them with a big challenge. That in of itself was a big channel for Cian. He had to craft puzzles for the students to make creative use of their quirks and put them in a situation where they had t work together to complete the objective. This most important part of this class was learning to work together with people that didn't interact too much. He knew that some of the students knew each other, but he designed the groups to have from different classes. This way he could do his best to ensure they weren't too familiar with each other. It was a fun idea and he had a lot of fun putting together the courses for the students. And naturally, he couldn't help but place little mental bets on how each student was going to handle each situation.
Squad Neta's rescue class was a bit different than what the students were used to. With the closing days of summer, a beachside rescue seemed unnecessary, but there were always reasons to practice them. That was even more unconventional was that the military base had a setup for such a thing. Japan's navy regularly had to do rescues like these on islands and a training facility was set up for them to practice the operations on. The heat of the moment was the worst time to have the first experience on the beach in a disastrous situation. The scenario was set up to be a landslide rescue, one that mimicked a real incident a few years ago in the Southeast Asia area. In it, a resort that sat on the underside of a cliff was the victim of a landslide. Parts of the resort was crushed while other parts started to sink into the seawater at the beach front.
It was a terrible situation, but the efforts of a few different country's naval forces were able to save the majority of the people there. Sadly, there were a few casualties and lives that could be saved if quirks were of use then. That was what this class was going to be about. There were nine targets to rescue in total, all in the form of mannequins that were often used in Yuuei's rescue classes. They were to be rescued from the crumbling resort and brought to a marked off area on the ground a short distance away from the course. It sat right next to the starting line the students were to gather at before Cian allowed them to enter and start the class.
There were a number of locked rooms in the resort with a bunch of different ways to unlock them. One such room was locked behind a strange mechanism. The door was locked shut with a mannequin in a room behind it. It was this way because its sensor was submerged in a container of water. As long as the sensor detected the water, the door would not open. However, due to the flooding, the container would constantly refill unless it was full or a near perfect vacuum was present. It was sealed, so the only way to remove the water was through a hose that was connected to the container. The water had to be sucked out of the hose in some way and all in one go. There was about a gallon inside and once it was removed, the door would slide open and release the mannequin inside.
On the roof was the resort was a mannequin laying on the ground. The leg was stuck under a large rock that could be moved by any of the students. However, if it was moved, a number of rocks from the landslide above would fall on both the student and the mannequin. It wasn't enough to crush anyone, but it would hurt unless the person found some way to protect themselves or was just sturdier than average.
Not far from that was the locker rooms that lead to the resort's sauna. It was flooded up to the knee with seawater and took an effort to navigate through. A mannequin was stuck inside of the sauna due to the water and the panel that unlocked it. It was not powered and the door was stuck shut because of it. The mechanism that powered it was actually a solar panel. It was usually lit by the roof window, but due to the landslide, it was covered and deactivated. The window could be opened though, which would cause the dirt to fall and fill the locker room, but allow light to touch the panel as well. Normally, it had a secondary power source that worked during the night, but that was also disconnected. Once it was, if some sunlight hit the panel, it could be opened and the mannequin could be rescued. but with the seawater flowing through the locker room and the sauna, the mannequin was stuck in, haphazardly trying to power it could end up electrocuting everyone involved.
Additionally, in one of the guest rooms, another electronically locked door was stuck closed. It lacked the power needed to get the door up. Once the power was returned to the panel, it could be unlocked and the mannequin inside of it saved. This one was in a dryer location and could be saved with less worry. However, this one was also time gated. There was a small fire int he room and if the mannequin wasn't rescued in five rounds, it would be burned. Later then seven rounds and that mannequin would be considered dead from the flames within.
There was another harder to find mannequin buried on the beach. They were on the portion of the resort that bordered the building and the water. And with each wave the pushed up against the sand, more and more of the beach was being washed out into the sea. The mannequin was to represent an unconscious person and if they weren't saved, they would eventually be washed out to sea before they could wake up. The only part of their body that was above the sand was part of their face and their hands, which were holding on to the edge of the wood that framed the building. Of course, the mannequin wouldn't be able to hold that frame for very long and with each round come closer and closer to being washed away.
Then there was the part of the resort that held a photo studio. It was a popular spot for shoots of this kind and rented out the studio on numerous occasions for famed commercials and advertisements. Stuck in this room under light stands and chairs was another mannequin. It was in the part of the resort that was the least affected by the landslide but was dangerous nonetheless. With all the equipment around fallen over, it was a hard room to navigate. The biggest problem was that the roof was gone. It was completely open to the sunlight above. And with all the reflective surfaces to enhance the lighting in the usually closed off photo studio, the sunlight emitted was enhanced by an untold amount. If the door to the studio was opened, the people on the other side would be greeted with a blinding light and intense heat. Moving into the room was going to take some time to adjust to the new light and temperature increase. But it likely had to be done with one's eyes closed. Anything that perceived or absorbed sunlight, like the eyes, would be overloaded by the intense sunrays after a short time.
Another portion of the resort was still hanging over the water below. A lone balcony hung unstably from the cliff side that used to be reachable by a catwalk that overlooked the water. The landslide destroyed that catwalk. What was left was a jumpable ledge a student could run and jump over between the balcony where the mannequin was laying and the main resort building. The only thing blocking the way was a flat wooden panel that hung stuck in the middle of the jump. It was big enough that the wood would stop anyone trying to jump between the two ledges and make them fall into the water below. It was too flat and smooth to grab on two and too large to grab the edges of the wood mid-jump. It had to be removed in some way in order to make the jump possible.
Another mannequin was stuck in what was basically a whirlpool. A pool at the resort was emptying out into the sea, but water from above was pouring into the pool at the same rate that it was being emptied. The water rushed and swirled at a great speed and was dangerous to just swim in by oneself. The mannequin was far enough from the edge of the pool that they were n't reachable by hand. They were, however, connected to a rope that was at the edge of the pool. It was the only thing stopping it from being drowned completely. But due to the speed of the rushing water, pulling it in wasn't going to be something a person could do by themselves. The students needed to find some way to the mannequin out and to safety without risking themselves or breaking the only line keeping the mannequin from being pulled under.
The final mannequin was trapped in a steel locker in a room that had a gas leak. The locker was sealed and safe, but the gas around it was flammable and encased the whole room. The only way to open the locker was to stand on the panel in front of it for a full three minutes uninterrupted so that the panel would open. This was a relatively simple task if not for the flammable gas itself. It wasn't poisonous but it was nausea-inducing. Standing int he gas for too long would upset a person's stomach and force them to vomit. It'd make those that breathe within it gag and want to throw up. Simply removing the gas wasn't very easy either. No airflow was getting to the door, even after the door to it was opened. Simply blowing it away wasn't going to work without bringing power back to the ventilation system or removing the gas some other way.
The class will end once all mannequins are rescued and brought back to the safety zone, or time runs out (the event ends and the topics closed). This is not an exam, but a class. Students are here to learn and practice, not compete with the other squads to do things the best way. Mistakes are allowed. The important thing here is for students to learn to work together for a common goal. Aside from the stuff in this opening post, the topic and setting are free to use and proceed as you wish. If you have any questions, contact me on the discord. From this point on the student shave free reign and I will not be replying to the topic unless needed for something specific and by request. Have fun with it!
