”Alright, let’s try this one more time,” Haruto said to himself with a grimace. This easily topped the charts for, worst ideas he’d had, as he poured the bottle of rubbing alcohol over his head. His quirk got to work instantly, the liquid soaking in so quickly, it was as though powered by a vaccuum. In fact, his hair wasn’t even wet! Not that he would have the time to consider this, as the effects of his quirk hit- Doubling over in pain, as the impurities in his body writhed and roiled in his veins. Looking closely at his eyes, they would almost appear bloodshot- If it weren’t for the fact that blood is typically not black. The mutated cells had multiplied to the extent that they seemed to change the very color of his blood.
”Urr... Come... On...” Obviously, Haruto wasn’t poisoning himself because it was fun, by any means. It was just that, earlier, he’d been in the medical area to learn more about some inconsistencies between how he had originally been told his quirk worked, and how he and Elise had observed it to work- And some interesting things had come up. For instance, the lady there had said, that the reason his “impurities” grew chaotic like this as he pushed his limit, seemed to be them responding to his mental state- Even going so far as to suggest that, in time, he could grow to influence them more completely?
In fact, apparently he already could- His hair wasn’t naturally white, after all- He had used his quirk to consume the pigmentation, for various reasons that he chose not to dwell on out of embarrassment. Pigmentation was, of course, not a harmful substance, so based on his understanding of his quirk, that shouldn’t have worked!
And yet, it did. The evidence was right there, growing on his head. Which has led him here, to the rescue area- A place mainly used for the testing of quirks, where he could see if the theories were right. If impurities really were a thing that Haruto could bend to his will- Perhaps, doing so was exactly what he needed to take his quirk the next step forward. After all, Shimizu Haruto knew his limits better than anyone else, and the fact that such a thing as rubbing alcohol could bring him to the limits of his capacity, meant that if the next incident involved a stronger toxin than QED had been, Haruto would be absolutely useless. But if the impurities could be controlled, their damage limited... Maybe, just maybe, there was a light at the end of this tunnel.

WORD COUNT: TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy The more Rin moved around here at the military camp, the less it felt like a place she truly wanted to be. There was a strange atmosphere around the place. While people, classmates, students, teachers, all seemed to be having a good time - for the most part anyway - Rin couldn't help but sense an engrained hostility towards anyone openly displaying their quirks. Sighing softly, she was heading over to the medical camp. Medics were typically far more compliant, compassionate and kind. Their duty was to save lives, and most were taught that any human life, whether an ally or an enemy, held intrinsic value. A value that most medics, doctors, samaritans and more swore to protect. Before really making it too deep into the camp however, Rin came across a series of erected tents. Now, that normally wouldn't have been enough to make the girl stop, especially not out of curiosity, but this little interaction was different. There were soft groans, followed by words of encouragement. So, rather than continuing her march towards her destination, the raven haired female took a slight detour. It only took a series of steps before she could pry open the tent entrance, tilting her head sideways to peek inside curiously. If Rin had found herself confused before, that very quickly faded compared to the confusion she now found herself witnessing.Shimizu Haruto, a general studies student, with a quirk that allowed them to cleanse impurities, if Rin remembered their prior encounters correctly, was currently pouring impurities onto, or depending on how you looked at it, into himself. Suffering, clearly, Rin couldn't help but wonder what in the world was going on. "H-Haruto-san, are you okay?..." The shock had been Rin's immediate reaction. Albeit, the more the raven haired female thought about this predicament, the more a few things became clear. Haruto-san was not a complete idiot. More than anyone, he knew what his quirk could do, how his quirk felt to utilize, plus the risks coming alongside it. To chastise him for doing this, would be akin to someone chastizing Rin for drawing blood from herself. Thus, Rin immediately forced her brain to go down a different path. "..If you're experimenting with your quirk, you probably should be doing it somewhere, where you can receive assistance, should something go wrong." Stepping into the tint herself, she looked at him a bit, trying to decipher exactly what he was getting up to. If rin was to take a qualified guess, this wasn't endurance training. Haruto-san didn't seem like he was attempting to push the boundaries of his quirk. Besides, he knew full well that doing so without any supervision could cost him his life. Something Rin was certain he'd never consider seriously toying with. The focus, the struggle, how he had spoken encouragingly to himself, as if trying to overcome some unseen hurdle. "..Are you trying to speed up the process at which your body breaks down impurities?" It was the most logical explanation. Just like Rin was capable of producing blood faster if she put her mind to it, it wasn't unthinkable that Haruto-san could do something similar if he focussed his body's resources on cleansing the impurities. Heck, perhaps this approach even made more inherent sense than attempting to up his tolerance to said impurities. It'd mean that, instead of being okay with feeling worse, he'd be quicker at returning to feeling good. Shrugging, that actually seemed fairly reasonable to Rin, now that she thought about it.

A voice snapped Haruto’s concentration in two, inevitably resulting in another failure. The blackness receded from his eyes as the impurities swiftly died off- Though with it, the pain began to recede. Enough that he could speak normally, at the very least. ”Kurama-san? Ah, this is-“ Haruto knew he must look strange, pouring a bottle of rubbing alcohol over his head. Especially to Rin, who knew about his quirk, as well as how dangerous it could be if he went overboard. To her, he must seem to be a masochist for doing this!
But fortunately, Rin was smart, and no comical misunderstandings would arise as she quickly and astutely noted that he was training his quirk. Well, that much was probably obvious, given as that was one of the purposes of the military camp. ”Ah, well, this is a military camp, after all. There are cameras anywhere- It’s not like I’m doing this completely unsupervised. Besides which, ,” He held up the now empty bottle. Since this isn’t very strong, It’s not hard to keep myself from going too far, so, I’m not really in any danger.” He knew that in theory he would die if he took in too much at a time... But he didn’t have to push himself that close to his absolute limit! From his experience, the impurities would become restless at about three-quarters of his absolute capacity- Though, he wasn’t about to test the exact amounts! He wasn’t suicidal!
Though, he supposed his word probably didn’t hold much weight. While he was fairly confident in his own analysis of his limits, humans were notoriously bad at gauging those. ”For what it’s worth, Elise knows I’m here.” Even if he himself could not be trusted, surely Elise could! The girl who, like Rin, was acting as an assistant to the school nurse. Plus, with her quirk’s healing abilities, she would surely be able to save Haruto if something went wrong.
Then Rin interjected, asking him if he was trying to cleanse impurities from himself faster. ”Ah, no, it’s a little bit more awkward and complicated than that. See, it turns out that my quirk works completely differently than we’d thought- You know, I really want to find the guy who made that mistake and give him a piece of my mind!” Though, in all honesty, it was probably just that his parents had tried to explain it to him in simpler terms because he was so young. ”It turns out that I was wrong- The ‘impurities’ my body produces aren’t a byproduct of my quirk, they actually are my quirk. They’re actually a mutation in my white blood cells, and- Well, I’ll spare you the boring details.” He was certain that precisely no one cared about exactly how his quirk worked- Except maybe Elise. In any case, that wasn’t important here, and the more time he wasted on exposition, the more impurities would die off in his body, meaning he would need even more to push himself back up to the brink.
”But the interesting thing that came up- Apparently, when the impurities in my body reach a certain level, they actually start responding to my brainwaves. I don’t claim to understand how that works, but... Well, it seemed worth a shot to see if it was at all possible that they be controlled? It’s probably a fools errand, but, if it really was possible, maybe I could make them harm my body a little less, or something.” He shrugged. ”In any case, as you can see, it’s going about as well as could be expected. Though, there has actually been some progress! Normally at the levels I was just at, I would be coughing up impurities, but I’m actually able to keep them in for now! Not that that really does anything except look less disgusting, I suppose...”
He uncapped another bottle of alcohol, dripping a bit on his skin- Not enough to push him to overload, but plenty to feed his impurities, and keep the, from falling completely to baseline levels. ”That aside, what brings you here?

WORD COUNT: TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy The awkward embarassment was in the air, for a few short moments. However, with Rin's observational skills and modest intelligence, she seemingly deflected the awkwardness from growing too large. At least, Haruto-san seemed to very quickly grab onto the extended conversation stater. Noting that yes, he was in fact training his quirk. That no, Rin was in fact not correct in her assumptions. At least not fully. Scratching her cheek somewhat curiously, the boy had mentioned a couple of things that caught her interest. Specifically in regards to his white blood cells being the catalyst that held onto the toxins or impurities. If anyone at Yuuei knew a lot about blood, it would be Rin. Stepping fully inside the tent, the little doorway was closed behind the raven haired female as she did so, giving them some sense of privacy. What he wished to discuss might not be something for everyone's ears to hear. At least, to many individuals, the absolute workings of their quirks were somewhat private in nature. Something Rin, having hidden her quirk from her classmates at the start of the schoolyear, most certainly could relate to. Listening to his explanation, Rin bit the corner of her lip, as he mentioned perhaps boring her with his explanation. "..You might've forgotten, Haruto-san, but my quirk is entirely related to my blood. If you're attempting to control your blood, then, the more you tell me, the more I may be able to assist you. Given that blood control is kind of my thing." Rin offered to assist Haruto. Given that her quirk was entirely based on blood, Rin had been doing her fair share of research, studying, reading and learning in the subject. For the known knowledge by doctors, Rin knew almost all there was to know about the cardiovascular system. The girl had to, as mistakes in handling her quirk could lead directly to death's door. Already a couple of times had Rin been borderline anemic, her body struggling to maintain the energy required to generate blood. For the most part however, Rin had used her knowledge to avoid the worst outcomes, slowly, over time, becoming more and more efficient with her abilities."Does it include all your white blood cells, or only the neutrophils..? If it dealt with both the lymphocytes and the basophils, your immune system would be struggling versus anything your neutrophils wouldn't recognize. Like the cells attacking your own body, or letting nasty things like bacteria posing as the body's cells slide." Rin watched him with mild interest. The girl knew her stuff when it came to blood. If his quirk was rooted entirely in his white blood cells, then there'd hardly be anyone more competent to speak to than Rin. Especially because her own quirk allowed her to essentially offer him a little boost in terms of blood resources. For now, the girl was calmly waiting. If Haruto-san wished to practice or research on his own, then that made enough sense that Rin would not be imposing her presence onto him.

Haruto could only admit that he had never even considered asking Rin for help. In his defense, it was not as though the two had interacted very much at all! But if she was offering, Haruto would be a fool to refuse! “I would hate to impose, but if you are willing to help, I would be immensely grateful! Let me see,” Haruto began to sort out his thoughts- Having only recently had the rundown given to him, it was still fresh in the boy’s head. While some people might have qualms about telling each other about their quirk, Haruto had never felt that way- After all, what good would it do anyone for him to be secretive about it?
”Well, your speculation is about half right-“ Haruto explained. But the full story is a little bit more awkward than that. Yes, they replace everything- My body is basically lacking any of a normal human’s immune response, so, trying to rationalize it based on prior knowledge will probably lead to a dead end. So, to start from the beginning- My quirk is that my body produces, instead of normal white blood cells, these black cells which we call impurities. It’s really a misnomer based on a flawed understanding of what they were, but, I’ve called it that for so long, it would be weird to change now.” After all, originally he had thought that impurities were a toxic byproduct of his Purification, not the mechanism behind it. It had made sense to call them ‘impurities’ at the time!
”Well, anyways, these impurities are quite different from your normal white blood cells, and I’m not just talking about the color. For one thing, they can reproduce on their own- And do so rapidly, when in the presence of harmful substances. That’s why they build up as my body takes in stuff, but... Well, you got it exactly right. Without lymphocytes, the impurities attack everything- Including each other, and my own body, though... That isn’t entirely true. It’s more like, the more of them there are, the less specific they get? Otherwise I’d be long dead of malnutrition. Well, fortunately for me, they seem to struggle with engulfing cells that are part of complex structures, so I only have to be worried about being eaten alive by my own body in the absolute worst case scenario... Usually.” It was a morbid thought as to what could happen if his quirk didn’t have these oddly specific edge cases. ”I guess they also avoid my red blood cells? It’s like, there are all these weird edge cases, so, to find them all would really need a lot more time and technology than I’ve been studied with. I mean, this is all fine and good, but it doesn’t explain the way my body draws everything in from the air around me, or from other people, or whatnot. It’s all very strange, though, I suppose that’s not unusual when it comes to quirks.”
His face turned sheepish- Although he had been asked for more details, half of the details ended up being, “I’m not sure, it just works that way.” But to be fair, there had only been a little bit of research done so far, and half of it was done in the school infirmary by Elise! Knowing this much was already a huge amount.
”Oh, and the other big thing about them- Their lifespan is extremely short, as in, they die off within seconds of forming. Well, technically, anyways- But as I said, they tend to see each other as a threat, and so they attack and reproduce, so they actually fall out of my system at a slower rate than you would expect. Which also helps keep the. From attacking the rest of me, so, I suppose it all evens out? As for what I was talking about earlier- Well, I already said most of it. As I said, the impurities get less specific as they grow in quantity, but after a certain point, well, I’ve been referring to it as an ‘overload.’ At that point, the impurities in my blood start becoming extremely active, feeling like they’re roiling about in my veins- And, until recently, as I mentioned, forcing their way out. But according to the doctor here, apparently the reason for them becoming turbulent isn’t just what they do- Apparently, it’s somehow tied to my brainwaves. As for why that is, well, your guess is as good as mine!”
Haruto finished his explanation with a shrug, pretty sure he’d covered everything. Even if half of the coverage was just, it works that way and we don’t have a clue why that is. He certainly didn’t expect Rin to be able to fill in those blanks- Though, perhaps a fresh set of eyes could offer some clues. In any case, she was definitely right about being the authority on blood-related quirks, and hearing her opinion would never hurt!

WORD COUNT: TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy Rin reached into her backpack, pulling out her famed notebook. The notebook that held information on all the things she was working on, researching, people's quirks and the like. To say that the notebook held more information than Rin really should have access to, would be the understatement of the century. Being so well documented, while being so involved with so many different people, certainly had it's perks. Scribbling down, eyes completely focussed on the notepad, the girl simply nodded as he spoke. Ideally, Rin would want a blood sample from him to study, though that could wait for a slightly later time. For now, they needed to ascertain exactly where they stood, plus exactly which things they needed to be researching for practical purposes. As Haruto was currently messing around with it, without specifically researching things, Rin could only conclude that the boy was attempting to develop a new kind of skillset for his quirk. Naturally, learning that your quirk wasn't functioning in the way you originally had been instructed or imagined, meant that the world of possibilities available to you expanded at a rapid rate. Creativity could, however, be a dangerous adversary. Messing with things you only had half an insight into could be exceedingly dangerous. Rin needed a few more pieces of information before she could really commit to a specific idea for training Haruto in the usage of his newly researched abilities. "When the impurities-" Rin wasn't exactly happy calling part of the immune system for impurities, in fact, it almost sounded ludicrus to her ears, but they needed to be talking in the same field if the conversation was to bear any meaning at all. "-leave your body, like when you bleed, the processes continue I assume?.. Do these processes still react to your stimuli after leaving your body?"If the boy was capable of influencing blood outside of his body, then with Rin around, they could potentially do some very serious research and testing. Simply by virtue of Rin's own quirk functioning far too well with other blood type quirks. In some ways, Rin could function like an amplifier, while providing a more safe environment for the boy to practice in. The moment Haruto wouldn't have to introduce toxins directly to his body to gain the desired effect, they could test things more extensively. If, however, Haruto was stuck testing mainly within his own body, their options were significantly more limited. Continuing to scribble, the girl was now writing up different potential ways of sorting his little issues. The main thing was figuring out what kind of interaction Haruto's emotional state, his brainwaves, or whatever else seemed to have an effect, specifically had on the impurities. If they could somehow conclude a pattern, it'd make control significantly easier. That being said, as Rin had already figured, if they were forced to work within the confines of his body, they'd need to be exceedingly careful. As his impurities seemed capable of tearing even his own body apart, screwing up could have severe consequences."It's a very curious quirk interaction. I must admit, testing it within the confines of your body could, potentially, have catastrophical consequences. If the impurities began attacking something vital, multiplying as a result, thus attacking more, thus multiplying.. you could risk essentially killing yourself with poor control." Rin was being very up front and honest with what she thought, with the information he had provided her with. In all honesty, the only reason Rin hadn't straight up told him that attempting to practice this was a horrible idea, was because a complete lack of control from his side meant he could trigger a disastrous outcome unknowingly. Just like Rin, with her own quirk, always needed to watch the balance to prevent herself from stepping into dangerous territory.

Rin listened attentively to Haruto’s explanation, even going so far as to be taking notes on it. It was a far cry from his last audience- Albeit, to be fair, back then he had been using the older explanation of his quirk, which had even more cases of, “I don’t know.” As ridiculous as that may seem. Still, it felt a lot better than being ignored, which in turn added a bit of pep to Haruto’s voice as he explained. And she asked questions! Last time, the first question he’d gotten, was if he could offer a blood sample for testing! “Well, yes, I suppose they do- But, without my quirk drawing all the toxins in to my body for them, they quickly run out of things to consume after leaving my body. The lifespan of individual ‘impurities’ is so short, and there would only be so many in a drop of blood, so, it’s not like just dropping some blood in a lake would make them multiply out of control.” Which was fortunate, as that would be extremely dangerous for all involved. Of course, it would be convenient if he could use his quirk without needing to have the impurities multiply in his body... But, asking for too much would just be greedy!
”As for reacting, not exactly. It’s only when the impurities are connected to my body, either touching it directly, or touching other impurities that are touching it. Perhaps once they reach saturation, the connections between them are able to transmit signals like nerves? That would be my best guess, at any rate. He was only just beginning to test out his newfound abilities, and lacked the confidence to say for sure what he could and could not do. However, once separated from his body, it was clear that the impurities instantly returning to a stable state- Giving him the confidence to answer at least this question.
An awkward expression crossed his face as Rin brought up the safety concerns once again. It was true that Haruto felt that this was the safest place to be doing this kind of practice, with an entire medical staff able to help if something went wrong- But he knew as well as anyone what could happen if he pushed himself too close to the brink in an attempt to improve his control. Well, the specific concern Rin had, fortunately wasn’t a serious one. ”Well, I won’t say that it isn’t dangerous... But at least, that won’t be a problem. The replication of impurities is closer to an immune response than anything- They replicate based on the toxicity of what they consume, rather than the amount they eat- Though there is a correlation. The dose makes the poison, and all that. So, they’ll still try to eat my organs, but, they won’t increase in number based on it... And, as I explained, they struggle with organic tissues, so I have that going for me. I wish I could tell you it isn’t dangerous at all, but, it really is. My body isn’t all that strong to begin with, so, I think I’ll only be able to try to control it a few more times before I’ll have to give up, or it could cause serious injury to me. I understand if you’d rather not help me because of that, but... If there’s even the slightest chance I can reduce the harm my quirk does to myself, I think it would be worth the pain.”
Still, if he couldn’t make it today, he would definitely need to take quite some time to recover before he tried again, if he even would. Repeatedly pushing himself to the brink like this, maybe if he had a healthier body he could do something, but... With his body so ravaged by the impurities during his youth, there was only so much it could take.

WORD COUNT: TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy The scribbling continued, as Rin attempted to dedicate more of her mental processes to understanding exactly what was going on. For an immune system to struggle with biological conditions sounded downright ludicrus, even if they were only, in Haruto's own words, complex biological compounds. Anything viral or bacterial were, to some extent, biological in nature. It was completely possible that an infection could become complex. Though, Rin supposed that, if the impurities were as aggressive at cleansing out his body as alluded to, then the infection would be stopped long before it could become complex. It was a curious little interaction, at the least. Of course there were some exceptions, but that was sort of covered in the name exception. Drawing, scribbling, gathering her thoughts and ideas, Rin was grumbling softly to herself, clearly annoyed at the fact that things weren't making as much sense to her as she would like them to. One thing was learning all of these new things, but more information simply asked more questions. At least when it came to teaching him anything. Another prospect entirely, was what Haruto-san was attempting to achieve with this altered training regiment. Biting her lower lip, the raven haired female was almost done with the noteblock for now. There were only a few more things that she wanted to know, before she would assist Haruto-san in his endeavor. Hopefully, having someone qualified by his side, should things go awry, would prove to be a bit of a confidence boost. "I see. Then only one thing remains to be questioned. Exactly what're you hoping to achieve by learning to control your impurities better?... Like, what kind of end goal would there be to this training of yours?"It was a simple, yet deep and delicate question. There seemed to be a ton of opportunities for what Haruto-san could utilize his quirk for. Albeit, for each of those opportunities and possibilities, were obstacles that needed to be overcome one way or another. Even if something was theoretically possible with his quirk, he likely needed to specialize it to some extent. Simply learning to control the iupurities wouldn't do Haruto-san much good. They needed to be capable of fulfilling some kind of role. Eating away at objects, being used as a defensive and offensive emission ala Rin, poisoning or infecting others with the Controlling them for a specific purpose on the other hand could prove beneficial, and would be a far better way to approach the situation. Although, given that Haruto-san had a blood type, vaccinating a person with his blood wouldn't ever really be on the table. Besides, his quirk already allowed him to draw out the impurities from another person, cleansing them in the process. Thus, Rin could only conclude that this practice was of a more destructive nature. Perhaps utilizing his impurities to chew through things like ropes, wood, maybe even metal at a refined state?.. With their short lifespan, plus his seeming inability to make the impurities leave his body in a proper fashion, it seemed quite tricky..."Going through my notes, indexing it in my mind, I'm running up short in a few different areas. Though, with my quirk assisting you, maybe we can test what is possible. After all, my quirk should be able to assist yours, if you want to test certain things.." That was about all Rin could offer to Haruto-san in this situation. Depending on what he was envisioning for his quirk, perhaps the two of them could cooperate to figure out what exactly would be, and wouldn't be, possible to achieve. The one thing Rin really wanted to know for the future was whether the impurities could be made to expel whatever harmful drug or substance they had devoured. That, in itself, likely had a ton of uses...

"I'll be honest, right now... I just want to know if it's possible. Just because they react to my brain waves, doesn't automatically mean I can exert any control on them. And given that the outlook hasn't been too good so far... I'm not going to work too far ahead of myself. It doesn't matter what I want to do with it, if I can't even do anything with it at all. Once I know that, I can try to actually train it into a usable technique... Or, accept that it was meaningless, and focus my efforts elsewhere." As he had said, it would be nice if the ability to control impurities helped limit the effect on his body. But while they reacted to his brainwaves, would he be able to use that to control them? Or was that just an unimportant detail?
"As I've said, I have had some success so far... But I'm far from certain. I can keep the impurities from going out, but... Other than that, nothing. It's a promising start, but... It's like I suddenly grew a third arm, and my brain doesn't know how to use it. Not to mention that the arm is flowing through my veins in a thousand pieces. Being able to control their replication... Well, that would be convenient, but it feels like a pipe dream." Haruto sighed. Maybe he should just give up before he hurt himself any further.
"Well, I can say that, but... I'll admit that I had some pretty big dreams when I first heard that they were responding to my brain. Obviously, as I mentioned- If I could control them, I might be able to steer them away from myself, lessen the damage my quirk does to myself. And, well... Okay, maybe I did imagine myself as a hero for a second, but that's besides the point! Honestly, even if I could, I'm not suited for that... And besides, with how quickly the Impurities degrade, I'd need to be constantly chugging poison while I fought. But, I can't help but feel that if I just knew more about what I could do, I could come up with a way to actually use it."
It wasn't that easy to keep Haruto down, and he had, after all, had a promising start. He just lacked... Everything else he needed. Time. Body strength. And impurities to feed his Impurities. But Rin suggested that perhaps her quirk would be able to boost his own, possibly being helpful. "Well, it can't hurt to try. Not any more than what I've already tried, anyways. Just tell me what you need me to do!"
Perhaps this was the fresh start he needed to breakthrough this slump and find out if he could actually control his own quirk! Or it would just be another failure, but, how could he give up without giving it a shot?

WORD COUNT: TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy To control his impurities via his brainwaves seemed to be Haruto's ultimate goal. Theoretically, Rin was a living example that, if the control you could exert over objects emitted from your body exceeded a certain treshhold, there were practically no limits for how you could utilize such a power. Imagination and practical application more or less went hand in hand for the raven haired female. Recently, the girl had been developing a skill for moving around with significantly more ease than before, all be the use of blood. In this experience, Rin had learned that, should she practice diligently, the girl would be able to go as far as to create wings of blood to soar through the skies. For Rin, naturally there were serious repercussions for emitting blood in the first place however. Drawbacks that many other emission type quirks didn't seem to share. For Haruto, emitting his impurities... Rin could not quite index the potential risks with the emission itself, yet she was certain that there'd be several. Afterall, Haruto only had impurities to emit, when he had been poisoned or otherwise have his impurities consume something unhealthy. Not to mention what Haruto needed to do, to maintain an impurity level large enough to create any emission of note. "First, I need to determine exactly how much control over your impurities you truly have. A sample of your impurities under a microscope ought to get me a good idea." Rin explained. For example, if his control over the impurities was sporadic or chaotic, something that couldn't be consistently replicated, attempting to utilize it would only cause frustrations and unpredictability. If there was a consistency to be found, like the ability to make the impurities function in unity to the same kind of stimuli, there was several reasons to continue experimenting. Holding out a small, oval plastic container without it's top, Rin gestured towards it with her head, asking Haruto to provide a sample. "Afterwards, I'll be adding a bit of blood to the sample, utilizing my own quirk to control your impurities. If you can sense their movements, it ought to give you an idea of how to impose your control over them." That was the general idea at the very least. The more different inputs Rin could give him, the more they could determine exactly how his impurities functioned, the more she'd be capable of assisting him. Plus, if Rin wasn't capable of making the impurities bow down to her current level of control, with years of experience making blood obey her command, then someone who had never attempted to do such a thing before, suddenly gaining the upper hand, would be a very optimistic outlook. Rin was not attempting to dash his hopes or dreams, but being realistic, the task he had put onto himself would take a long ass time to properly learn. Let alone master. For the time being however, Rin kept all the negative connotations to herself. It was something that, if it came to it, could be explained then.Adjusting the microscope, Rin was more or less prepared for Haruto's sample. In earnest, the microscope scan was as much for her own curiosity, as it was for getting Haruto started with his quirk. The idea that someone's quirk had essentially relinquished all of their white blood cells, completely changing up their metabolism and biological functions was... to put it mildly, beyond intriguing. In the future, Rin would enjoy exposing these samples to different vira and bacteria. If nothing else, perhaps it could give her a few ideas for synthesizing aggressive medicine in the future. That, or possibly even utilizing Haruto's quirk as a base to manufacture biological medicine. Bacteria that eats other bacteria.. Shaking her head, once again her thoughts had got the better of her. Clearing her throat as a silent apology, her focus returned to the boy with the fascinating quirk. "I must admit your quirk quite intrigues me. There's quite a few things I would like to test in the future. For now, lets see what kind of consistent control you have over your impurities Haruto-san, yes?" Being this curious could sometimes be quite the curse. It was borderline embarassing...

Haruto gave a dry laugh. "Not very much, I'm afraid." he replied. The impurities were responding to his brainwaves, sure- But, that was about the end of it. As he'd said, the most he could do at the moment was limiting their rampage to a small degree- Not nearly enough to even be called control. But it was better than nothing, and if Rin thought she could help better if she saw a sample, Haruto was more than happy to provide one. He doused himself in the rubbing alcohol once more, letting his body absorb it- The impurities rousing as his body recognized the toxicity. As he had been holding himself near his limit, it didn't take much.
The pain hit as the overload began, but Haruto forced himself to relax. His practice had helped with this, and he was certain that it was less ferocious than it had been in the past. But still, he wanted to work quivkly. Taking a knife, he nicked his finger- It seemed less disgusting than having the impurities follow their usual exit path. The impurities were more than happy to follow the path of least resistance, pouring out of the cut, and into the petri dish- Which Haruto would promptly turn back over to Rin.
Once cut off from Haruto, the impurities underwent a drastic change. Specifically, they stopped- Not entirely, as they continued to shift eerily, and their numbers visibly decreased in the absence of toxins. However, they were notably less rampageous than they had been upon exiting the cut, not thrashing about as violently- Obviously, this was because they had been cut off from the brainwaves that had induced them to become active. "You'll want to look fast, or else add something toxic to the dish for them- They die off very quickly, which makes them hard to study in controlled conditions." Haruto warned- He spoke from experience. The rapid speed at which the impurities degraded had been the bane of all who had tried to investigate the cells.
"Okay," Haruto would respond to Rin's explanation of what she would do. "But, be careful. As I said, I don't always know how the impurities identify a toxin, so- Well, from what I understand of your quirk, I doubt it will be a problem, but..." As Rin's quirk made her a universal donator, Haruto doubted his quirk would identify it as a threat. As trumped up as it was, it was originally an immune system, after all. But it never hoped to be careful. Still- He hoped for the best. Hoped that Rin would prove that the impurities could be controlled in a meaningful way. Even if he had no reason to think it was true.
Fortunately, it seemed Rin was well ahead of Haruto on certain points- Before he even returned the dish, the microscope had been adjusted. There would be no time wasted, impurities decaying, while attempting to get them in the field of view. "Yes, of course! I would be happy to help anytime!" Helping Rin in her experiments was the least Haruto could do in return for her help, even if it turned out to be pointless. As for now, the rest... Was up to Rin.

WORD COUNT: TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy There were a few things to be immediately seen. The impurities, compared to regular white blood cells, were significantly larger. If Rin was to take an educated guess, the sheer mass of these cells allowed them to inherently function as the entire different group of blood cells that ordinary people had in their blood. Neutrophiles, lymphocytes, eosinophils, monocytes and basophils, all concocted down to a singular cell. In many ways, that explained how these impurities functioned. Because they had the aggression of the neutrophil cells, they were constantly trying to devour anything that did not belong. Because they had the identification skills of lymphocytes, quickly discerning and dealing with old infection types... The slightly worrying bit, was that every single of these cells seemed to have to fulfill the roles of eosinophils and basophils. Normally, in a regular person, these cells were vastly outnumbered by the other types of blood cells. Basophils, specifically, assist in preventing blood from clotting. It meant that if, for example, Haruto was to get a deep cut, the clotting would occur only at the surface level. Because these cells were so under-represented, the clotting prevention would only, normally, happen in the blood stream. For Haruto however, if his wound was in contact with anything toxic, the growing pressence of these impurities could prevent his blood from clotting, until the toxins were removed. In short, if Haruto was stabbed by a poisoned dagger, there was a high chance his wounds couldn't close up properly, until the poison had been eaten by the impurities. An interesting thought, that they could most certainly test. Probably better saved for a later time, though...Slitting a small hole at the tip of her thumb, Rin dripped a singular drop of blood into the sample, observing the reaction. There was something exceedingly terrifying to seeing her own white blood cells essentially mutate as they came into contact with his blood. They banded together in groups, growing, adapting, eating, until they had become impurities. It all happened so quickly, that Haruto's own impurities didn't even r eact to the pressence of foreign blood. Clearing her throat, Rin let out a small confirmation to the boy. "Well, one thing is certain, my blood can adjust to yours just fine... but if this transformation happened inside my body.. I'd probably die... Remind me to never have a blood transfusion. From anyone that isn't me.." Shuddering slightly, the next part of the test was where it got interesting. Could Rin still control her own blood under these circumstances, or were the impurities too difficult for her to handle..? Still looking into the microscope, Rin did a soft gesture with her hand, as the small ball of blood began rolling sideways. Controlling it was definitely possible. Though, the impurities were still very much attempting to do their own thing. Possibly because Haruto was close. Possibly for several other reasons... but controlling any amount of this blood, beyond a very minor amount, would cost her significant energy."Well, the good news is, that they are controllable, even if they are troublesome to control. The bad news is, that they're still doing their own thing, rather than acting in unison as a group. I believe you could essentially make them function like a strong acid... Though I am unsure of whether you could copy skills like me hardening my blood." Rin explained softly, slowly raising from the microscope. Scratching her cheek, they had gotten quite a ways with their initial deductions. They knew that Rin's blood could adjust to his. They knew that there was control possibilities to the impurities. Beyond that, they really didn't have much to go on. Yet. "...I'll need to prepare some practice for you, so that we can truly test the limits of the impurities. To practice without a good direction is likely to just get you hurt. Thus I ask, if you continue with this training, be extremely mindful of what you're doing. Okay?" With that, Rin picked up the things she had initially come here for. The things she had left behind in the tents on earlier visits. Packing them down into her bag, she was very clearly lost in thoughts..."In a couple of days, when I've compiled the information, I'll get back to you. Then we can get some real training started." Offering Haruto a bright smile, Rin then, seemingly in a hurry, left the tent. There was something which she needed to do. Something which she had momentarily forgotten. The whole sample she had gotten from the shark. The analysis of it. The results it had given her. Rin needed to speak with someone that knew more. Someone that could tell her whether the medics at Semper Fi had truly continued developing the QED, to the point where... what had happened with the shark, could be replicated to any quirk user in the country. A combat drug that took away all mind and reasoning. A combat druig that could turn any quirk user into a dangerous weapon... Hopefully Rin was just being paranoid... but in the off chance that she wasn't, she needed to act quickly to prevent a potential catastrophe. As it was still just thoughts in the back of her mind, filling in Haruto on all of the details would be a waste. It could just raise an unneccessary alarm...
