Sometimes the only pay-off for having any faith Is when it's tested again and again everyday I'm still comparing your past to my future It might be your wound but they're my sutures Who knew that auras and wending machines weren’t on good terms? Naoru was on his way to the janitor’s room after an unlucky experience in the dorm’s longe that resulted in a blown wending machine and the messiest of furniture. After he tried and failed to get himself a bottle of iced tea, and accidentally input the number of a soda bottle, he panicked. The result was a too quickly called Aura Wraith, and a too powerfully pushed – although non-existent – reset button that essentially pushed the whole machine to the wall. Apparently, it wasn’t built to withstand such handling. And then there no longer was a wending machine to use, instead, he was left to try and clean up the mess he made. With the machine broken, and various kinds of drinks dripping from every possible surface, Naoru froze in place and lowered his head in shame when a few curious students glanced into the lounge for answers. When they noticed that instead of a drink, trouble was brewing, they retreated to their own business and left the pale boy to boil in his own anxiety. It took his mind a few moments to reset and start to come up with a plan, and then he was on his way to try and make everything better. His Aura, although he called it out before, retreated back under his skin after his anxiety got the better of him. There was nothing to cover both his arms as well as his chest in its white, ethereal substance that looked much like white mist trapped in a glass jar. Currently, he might have preferred to walk through the hallways in his phantom-like appearance. It wouldn’t even bother him that his left hand’s fingers were replaced by claws whenever his dormant Aura surfaced. Maybe it could have given him just a tiny bit of confidence in dealing with the janitor, who was not yet familiar to him, but alas, he wasn’t in the right mind to call forth his quirk. When he reached the designated room, he took a deep breath, and after a pair of knocks, he entered. “Um, excuse me.” He called out, his grey eyes searching the room for the presence of another person, looking as pale as ever. He definitely appeared to be sick and too anxious to deal with an unknown situation and a less known janitor. “Can I borrow a few cleaning supplies? There was a little... accident in the dorm’s kitchen.” His voice was steady, if only a bit quiet, despite his nerves. He figured that more information was unnecessary, as he would just ask for a mop and cleaners, and be on his way. He had no idea who he would find in that room though, or what awaited him when dealing with that person. MADE BY VEL OF GS

She sat there, the bins full of garbage. Since she had gotten the job, there was no longer any excess trash. The dumpsters were not even overfilled. They were filled moderately, allowing the old materials enough room to be tossed out with ease. Kasey had been cleaning and dumping trash with relative ease. She could not spend all day sorting the garbage, but she was doing fine. She had gloves over her hands and her sleeves down as she dug through one bin. She tossed plastics to one other bin, and other discarded materials to the next. The little bits of food she would toss into her mouth, and continue to toss the drinks away. She didn't want to drink any left over liquids. They were useless to her. She had stuck someone's bread leftover from a sandwich in her mouth when she heard the voice. She turned to face the knocking sound. Was something broken? She turned her head in curiosity only to have a student open the door. He stumbled in, and she would quickly eat the half eaten bread and hide it within her mouth as she tried to process what he was saying. ". . . What did you break?" she asked, not even realizing he had offered to clean it. ". . . And how much food is ruined?" She would stand up more straight, only to look around for her cart. If not, she would have to arrange one quickly. Perhaps just the mop and bucket, as well as a bin and some paper towels would be fine right? Cleaner as well, and perhaps disinfectant. ~ 271 ~

Sometimes the only pay-off for having any faith Is when it's tested again and again everyday I'm still comparing your past to my future It might be your wound but they're my sutures The sight that awaited him in the janitor’s room was nothing he was prepared for. The garbage bins prepared and ready, were scattered around a girl that barely looked older than himself, if at all. With her bright hair and wide eyes, Naoru wondered if he was in the right room at all. The most suspicious thing was the fact she was leaning toward the garbage bins, and was eating a sandwich while doing so. He had never met with the school’s janitor before, but he certainly didn’t expect it to be her. For a few moments, he was thinking of just backing out and apologizing for the interruption, but then he heard her speak and it dawned on him: she really was the person he was searching for. And on top of that, instead of providing him with the necessary equipment, she was ready to do the work on her own. His mind blacked out before he realized he was actually asked a question, and it would be polite to at least try to answer it. “Um...” well, that was a nice start. He shook his head to clear it of the anxiety and the embarrassment, and turned to her fully. “Oh, it was the wending machine right next to the kitchen’s door in the dorms.” He just belatedly realized that she already assumed he had broken something, even though he only talked about an accident. He supposed his tone must have been obvious enough, or that she had seen enough students wander into her office with similar problems. So there was no need to admit he broke it, so it seemed. “Food? Um, nothing, I think. It only had drinks in it, so...” As she started to look around for the supplies, Naoru was ready to just grab them from her and be on his way. There was no need for her to concern herself with this more than necessary. And he, he did not want to stay in the room much longer, and the strong smell of the garbage was already hurting his nose, and in turn, his head. “I just need a few supplies, and I will clean it myself. It really wasn’t that big of a problem.” He said hurriedly, as if not wanting a school staff to see all the damage that was done. The wall and the floor must be drenched by now, and the machine itself, well... “We might need another wending machine though, unless it can be repaired.” He was ready to go as soon as he had a mop in his hand, really. She could have been a general studies student, in fact she should have been. But she had no desire to share the spotlight with heroes, or even be in the light at all. She wanted a paycheck, and nothing more. This was a job to her, and with her past, it was all it would ever become. She had taken it, in hopes of working odd hours to prevent her from even meeting with others. She came in almost as she pleased, being one of few, if any, of the custodial staff. She had been given that kind of luxury, and with everything she needed so close to the school, her shifts were strange, if not odd. Overtime was always available. She looked around, grabbing a single bin and removing the bag from inside of it. She would wrap it up, but tie a loose knot for her to return later. She would set it where the bin was, and she would take the empty one with her, dragging it to where she would get a bag. "Machine? Now I have to order a new one, again. . . " she said to herself. She made her mental note to tell Sato that she needed another one. After all, it wasn't like he was one of the donators for the school, "Well... at least I don't have to sort compost again today." She sighed to herself, grabbing a bottle of disinfectant as well as cleaner and hung it on the rim of the bin. She also got a few papertowel rolls and tossed them in the empty can, before placing it on a disk with wheels. Maybe she didn't need to clean that large of a mess. "It's my job to clean up after heroes. Trust me, there's no way it's that bad." She said it with attitude, even if she didn't mind it that much. She would make her way out either past, or following him. She knew where it was, and she was going to get there with or without his aid. "I just really hope you're not the guy who keeps leaving behind ice, because THEN it would be a problem." She would make her way out of there, heading to the mess. Only, when she saw it, she wouldn't expect it to be in the wall, although, it wasn't the strangest thing she saw. Without hesitation she would begin to soak up the mess on the floor, almost disregarding the machine that was now hung like a picture frame. She would have taken a mop, but trying to clean sugar from it for the fourth time didn't seem like something she wanted to do. She needed something more disposable, and less damaging to her tools. For now, she would soak up what she could and be done with it. Then she'd clean the stickyness later with her spray. The machine would have to wait until later. But maybe she would be able to pull it out on her own . . . ~ 506 ~

Sometimes the only pay-off for having any faith Is when it's tested again and again everyday I'm still comparing your past to my future It might be your wound but they're my sutures Naoru bowed in shame when the machine was mentioned. “I am really sorry.” he said with as much honesty on his voice as he could possibly muster up despite his nerves and worry about the situation. It was... really rare for him to mess up, but due to the environment and the slight stress, he was a bit more fidgety and usual. He was also listening more to his instincts, which was a direct cause of his more regular usage of his quirk. He couldn’t deny it was changing him, and if it meant he would break vending machines every week, he wasn’t sure if he liked this development. “It... might be that bad.”He was watching her carefully, waiting for any indication of needed help, but nothing came. As she moved with a purpose, he was idly standing around unable to do anything with himself until she actually started toward the dorms, Naoru following behind. She seemed so purposeful and confident that it was hard for him to ask questions or chose a topic of discussion to the short walk they were having. He was saved by her own voice as she asked a question. “Ice? No.” Did she mean someone with an ice quirk? Only a superpower would be able to make enough ice and leave it everywhere for a janitor to be especially concerned about it. He supposed his pale complexion and white hair could make others assume he was associated with an elemental quirk, but that was far from the truth. “I have no power over ice, and I do not have a big enough freezer, so...” his voice died down uncertainly as he gave a small shrug. It was still odd how she specifically mentioned ice, but then again, cleaning a hardened element like that one must be tricky without the right equipment. She had nearly no reaction to the scene when they arrived, which told Naoru enough about what she had experienced about the hero students so far. She must have seen so much to not care about a wending machine, dented and broken, up in the wall, with the area around it near completely soaked by soda, coke and various energy drinks that exploded from the machine. Not only the wall, but the floor was also covered. The crowd that was just around to see Naoru’s unfortunate experience with the machine was gone, and it seemed that no one had bothered to do much about the mess. When the janitor went about her work without so much as a bat of an eye, Naoru couldn’t contain his fidgeting, and grabbed a roll of paper towel himself. Headed to the other side of the mess that pooled around, he readily mirrored her movements in soaking up the sticky liquid. “That is it. I will live on tap water from now on.” He said quietly, more as a joke, but he was already considering it when the sweet mixture of scents from various energy drinks were starting to hurt his nerves in turn. Tap water. It was gross to most, but still was the liquid of life. Kasey had already cleaned up half of the liquid, making a barrier with the paper towels preventing the puddle from growing. She would begin to drop the wads of the soda into the bin, stopping to take a smell of the rags every few minutes. She did not reply to his joke, not really knowing it was a joke or not. When it was mostly under control, she would speak to him. "Did it eat your money, or did you press the button too hard?" she asked, glancing up to the machine that hung in the balance of things. Looking down, she observed the mess, only to find it was nor mostly cleaned up. She didn't even bring a wet floor sign, but it had seemed as if no one really cared anyways. They all naturally went around them. "Don't worry about damages, the school has them covered." she would again talk to him, her demeanor calm and relaxed. She would begin to soak up all that was left, filling the bin half way with the towels and liquid. She would take the spray only to layer it over the entire floor and to wipe it down once more, and with a set of dry towels afterwards. There was no reason for a wet floor sign if the floor wasn't going to be wet. When she was done, she would toss the rest into the trash, only to sit and stare at the machine in the wall. There was no reason for them to even try to fix it. But they could maybe save the sodas. By they, meaning Kasey. Kasey was going to claim all of them were destroyed and keep them in her secret stashes all over the school. One day they would come in handy. But maybe not soon. It wasn't like someone was gonna poison the water supply or anything. ~ Word Count: 328 ~ |
