It had been a bit of a surprise to Lewis Himura, the news he had received recently. While he had applied to UA during his school selection process, he had received word that he was on the waiting list to join the school. He had, in theory, been selected to join the school, but the follow up never came. Lewis had chalked this up to himself not performing well enough to impress, and rather than dwell on that thought, he had taken his acceptance to his second option and used it all as fuel to push himself to be the best student where he had been accepted. His hard work had paid off too it seemed, as Lewis had garnered enough praise from his own school to get UA's attention. UA had in fact sent him a transfer offer; one that would allow him to move his studies and quirk training over and finish his first year at the larger school. While Lewis had been hesitant at first, having made friends and good strides in his classes, his friends and teachers encouraged him to go as it was a great opportunity for him to grow more.
So, at a very early time in the morning, not much earlier than Lewis was usually up, he had his things moved in and had begun unpacking in his new dorm room. He wanted to get everything done before others had woken up since he didn't want to be in anyone's way while they readied themselves for the day. Even if it was the start of the weekend, Lewis was sure people had plans for their days. With that thought in mind, Lewis had rushed all of his boxes into his room as soon as he arrived at roughly 5 in the morning, leaving nothing in the main area so as to not take up any unneeded space. He had also taken great care to be as quiet as humanly possible. While Lewis was routinely up by 5:30 or 6 in the morning most days, he was a morning person after all, he knew very few people who liked being woken up so early. For Lewis however, the latter he slept in, the more of the day he wasted, and a wasted day was a wasted opportunity.
It hadn't taken the red skinned devil-like teenager long to have most things in his room on the lowest floor set up. It was fairly plan, with the only thing currently set up out of his boxes outside of the usual bed, dresser, desk and chair, was a simple speed bag. Some weights had also been placed neatly in a corner, and in fact even the boxes that still held some of his things were neatly set aside. Lewis couldn't stand a mess, and so while he was unpacking, he still took great care as to not leave anything out of place.
By about 6:30, Lewis had most everything set up as he wanted. Thanks to his quirk, his already warm body temperature had increased from the work out that was moving in to a new place. His shirt had already been off as soon as he started to work up even a bit of sweat, but that was nothing new for him. A high body temperature lent itself to never really being comfortable in many layers of cloths. It didn't help that Lewis was nearly always working out as well, taxing his body even more and heating himself up in doing so.
Grabbing a towel and cleaning off some sweat, he tossed it around his neck before setting up a pull up a retractable pull up bar in his door frame. He wasn't trying to show off in anyone would happen by, but there really wasn't anywhere else for him to put it and he wasn't about to ruin his routine because of that. Instead he took a break from setting things up to get into his morning work out. With his legs crossed behind him as he gripped the bar, a small exhale of fire escaped his lips and soon dissipated before Lewis began his reps.

| Mornings weren’t really Shinme’s favorite part of the day. For the sole reason that he had to actually wake up and get out of his comfortable bed. Out from under the warm covers. Getting up would be more of a problem if he was sleeping home, in his own bed that he was used to, and not in the dorms where everything was too new and too strange for him. So morning came “easier” despite falling asleep past midnight.
So by the time 6:30 rolled around, he was already up and done with his morning routine, freshly showered, hair done in his usual high ponytail, dressed in black pants, a simple black long-sleeved shirt with one of his warmer red accented black haoris. His shirt had the “soulmate” text running around the low edge like a colorful ribbon.
Being around school for the only reason to get acquainted with the place until the new school year rolls around gave him an odd kind of freedom. He wasn’t required to go to classes, as he wasn’t yet an enrolled student, strictly speaking, but he was allowed to spend time in the dorms and get familiar with the place. So having nothing better to do, he decided to do just that. He quickly learned some of the students were early risers and tended to go to a little run or doing some exercises around campus, and he fully intended to catch someone to have fun with. Ahem. Get familiar with. Yeah, that was it.
But he really didn’t expect a half-naked hellspawn working out in one of the doors.
Shinme had to do a double-take just to make sure he saw right. He was still quite a bit away in the hallway, but there was something unmistakably non-human working out there. And an unmistakably shirtless something too.
Well. Wasn’t that interesting.
“Hey there!” Shinme skipped closer and leaned to the side in front of the unfamiliar student. At least he guessed it was a student. Really, who else would be here around this time in the morning. His long hair swayed behind him as he leaned to the side, dark colored eyes taking in the student from head to toe. He was definitely a look, and not in the same way Shinme was stared at for his stunning face. The red skin, the horns, and even the white hair was unusual, not to mention the heat he could feel even from a step away. “I don’t think we have met yet. I have just moved in a few days ago, getting familiar with the place, and all.” He stared at him almost shamelessly now, a smile touching his lips that was almost a smirk, rather. “Careful not to break the doorframe. They will make you pay for it.”
He straightened up and put both his hands behind his head, lacing his fingers together at his nape and backing off against the wall right across the little devil spawn. He comfortably settled against it, one knee raised, to keep watching. “Lucky this is a boys’ dorm, isn’t it? You would give a heart attack to any poor girl walking past.” Shinme had nearly no shame when he had to voice his thoughts, and almost no regard to personal space, be it physical or metaphorical, so he usually just spewed whatever came to mind.
“Watch out. They say this dorm is haunted.” He smiled, and hummed a tune. “Maybe I'm a ghost~ Just a whisper in a puff of smoke~ A secret that nobody knows~ No one will ever hear.~” When he started the little song, the air around the unfamiliar devil shifted, and unless he did something against it, sparkling air would touch against his ribs as gently as a tickle to bother him during his work-out and possibly distract him.
Shinme was just messing around though, passing time until anything more interesting would happen.

Lewis was focused on himself and his exercises. He was lucky that no one seemed to be around, the last thing he wanted was to accidentally ignore someone who came by. It was another reason why he was always up so early. Along with giving him more time in the time to work on himself, the earlier he was up, the more time he had to get everything done before others would be made inconvenienced by him or could potentially want his time.
His pointed ears flicked ever so slightly as some noised caught their attention. His eyes slowly opened as he continued to raise and lower himself on the bar. He noticed someone walking by, then coming back towards him. He slowed his pace, but continued to do some reps as the other neared him. He gave a small nod to the other as he spoke and neared the teen. Lewis' eyes followed the other as he hung from the frame, his legs still crossed behind him. The other was very close. Closer than Lewis would have expected a stranger to get.
"I just arrived an hour or so ago, so I agree that we've probably not met" As the young man spoke, a faint yellowish-oragne glow would be seen from the back of his throat. As the fire within him was always burning, he always had a faint glow coming from within himself. While it was hard to see Lewis' pupils, as his eyes were nearly fully a glowing yellow colour, they did follow the other and took in his looks from top to bottom. The eyes soon left the other as his head tilted back and looked at the door frame, then back to the other. "I've used this set for a good few years and haven't broken any frame yet, it should be fine"
The other had greeted him, but hadn't introduced himself. He did mention the gender split of the dorms however. The thoughts brought to mind first caused Lewis' eyes to widen slightly, and if it weren't for his red hued skin, a very faint blush would have appeared on his cheeks. He lets out a small cough to regain his composure, a small amount of fire escaping his lips as he exhaled "I would rather not cause anyone that kind of issue. With my physiology, it just gets a bit too hot when there's too many layers on. No shirt helps me vent the heat a little better. If it is an issue though, I can can put one on" The whispy tail behind him flicked slightly before encircling a shirt and pulling it towards him. With a small grunt, Lewis removed a hand from the bar and exchanged the shirt from tail to hand, before hanging it up over the bar, before placing his free hand back on.
Feeling some light breezes around him, Lewis closed his eyes and once more let out some small breaths to concentrate. He listened to the others words as the wind tickled at his skin, and while he was sure that was what the other was attempting, the wind actually help in making the teen feel a bit more cool than he had previously. "That would definitely be interesting if that were the case, but I doubt that's the case" Keeping his eyes closed, he began to do a few more reps, allowing the air the other created to attempt to tickle him, but using it himself as a way to cool off. His tail whipped out from behind him as he continued up and down, extending much like a hand to be shook. "Lewis Himura. Lu works as well. I'm sorry if I woke you up"

| Shinme could feel something odd about this person that had nothing to do with his appearance, and he couldn’t quite put a finger on what it was. He watched every movement from the constricting muscles during pull-ups to the shifting of his eyes without irises. At least he thought he had no irises. He could only guess where the boy was looking from the rising and lowering of his eyelids from this distance. No, there was something else odd about him, and he will have to satisfy his curiosity before he could go on about his day.
“An hour ago huh?” He asked back. “That explains a lot, but not enough. For example, why would you come so early to school and why would you start your day by doing reps... Are you some kind of masochist that doesn’t sleep, or what?” He didn’t even want to imagine when they boy had to wake up to arrive at, what, five in the morning to the dorms with luggage and boxes? That was insane. Inhumane. He glanced at the hellspawn, inhumane indeed. “You need to start sometimes.” He handwaved when the boy mentioned he had never broken a frame before, because really some things were just inevitable to happen.
The next reaction was easier to analyze, and without even seeing a blush on that skin, Shinme could see from a mile this new student was embarrassed from the possibility of bothering a girl with his work-out. Well, wasn’t that just adorable. “A bit too hot, you say.” Shinme repeated, staring at the body without any regard to possibly making someone uncomfortable. “I honestly don’t know if you are trying to seem humble on purpose, or you are just that dense.” He pointed toward the boy’s chest. “With that kind of body, you ought to bother someone sooner or later, and I don’t mean having horns or claws either. But you know what? Never mind. I will let you experience that yourself without any friendly advice.” He jumped forward when the boy’s shirt was hanged on the bar and attempted to grab it away. “No need for that. No one else is here, and as I have said, this is the boys’ dorm. The chances of a girl appearing this early in the morning are slim to none.” He unfolded the shirt and held it up to check it while talking. Once done with that, he folded it in half again, and kept holding it in his hand, away from the reach of that nimble tail. “Just keep being shirtless, and don’t worry about making anyone else hot and bothered.”
When his little trick seemed ineffective, and the expected laugh and fall was diverted, Shinme couldn’t help but give a disappointed pout with a matching glare. The guy was either not ticklish, or the wind was too gentle to be felt. He discarded attempting the trick again, worried he might use too much force in desperation and accidentally hurt the student. “Seems like you are not one to worry about ghosts. Figures. I don’t even know why I tried.”
He pulled his hair to his front and let it rest there when a tail was offered as a handshake. Shinme blinked. He shouldn’t even be perturbed, because really, only that appendage was currently free, but the fact he didn’t even warrant a short stop in reps to have a hand free for a greeting was rubbing him just a tiny bit the wrong way. But then again, this also made him feel better about being mischievous. This guy was dense. He can take whatever Shinme offered.
He bowed, then reached for the tail and shook it like anyone would do so with an offered hand. “It is very nice to meet you. My name is Shinme.” Unless Lewis was listening to recordings of talent shows and certain concerts of j-pop groups and the singers performing before them, he wouldn’t recognize the name, nor Shinme’s voice. “No worries, though, I wasn’t sleeping. I couldn’t hear you, didn’t even know you were here.” Oh, he awaited the time he would be randomly recognized and swarmed by fans on the streets.
In any case.
He had a tail in his hand now. One that was freely offered and he hadn’t released yet.
He threw Lewis’ shirt across his shoulder and crouched down next to the door, tail gently held in hand with just enough force so the boy wouldn’t be able to easily pull it out, but not strongly enough so to hurt in any way. He peered up at the boy from where he was crouching in case there was confusion why he was still holding on.
“You offered.” He pulled, indicating the tail. “So no takebacks.” He held it between his fingers, taking it in and trying to figure out if it feels like proper skin, or like the tail of a lizard, if it was more scaly and soft, or hard and wiry. Overall, it wasn’t even the oddest thing about the boy, but it was something in arm-length, so to speak. And it probably wasn’t even as hot as the rest of Lewis’ body. Otherwise he wouldn’t offer it for a handshake, right? “Were you born like this? You seem to be pretty chill about looking like someone right out of Devilman. Are you here to make contracts with the other students for fame?”

Despite Lewis' morning tendencies, he wasn't the type to go to sleep at an early time. He really tried to maximize every minute he could squeeze out of the day. Since his days usually started at 6 in the morning, he was usually in bed by 11 at night. If he really wanted to push his body, he was sure he could get away with a routine of less sleep. Perhaps in time he could train his body to function off of roughly 5 or 6 hours of sleep, but he knew at his age it was probably best to not try that just yet.
"If I arrived any later, I would more than likely gotten in peoples way. Coming this early means I'm not inconveniencing anyone" With the small explanation out of the way, he continued to the other question poised to him. "Have to make every minute of the day count for something. Sleeping in just wastes time you could use doing something else. It just so happens I find exercise to be the best way to spend that time" What Lewis opted not to mention was how his exercising helped occupy his mind as much as it occupied his time. So long as he could keep his mind focused on a task, he didn't have to bog himself down with his self doubt and insecurities.
Lewis was used to people starring and gawking at him. Even in a world full of quirks that granted amazing powers and shocking appearances, he was a teenager that looked like the spawn of Satan. Even if the other starred and starred and starred at Lewis, it didn't truly bother him. The gaze, no bother, the potential implication of judging however was a weight on Lewis' mind. The others comments however didn't seem to indicated any sort of malice, in fact they seemed to be complimentary. Sure people had complimented his body before given how well he took care of it, but the other had made the bodily comments include mention of his devilish traits.
The shirt he had hung up was grabbed causing Lewis to cock an eyebrow up. Was that necessary? Probably not, but it wasn't harming anyone, so Lewis paid it no mind. The shirt itself was plain, much like the room behind Lewis. He really never saw much reason for flash or flair, and a lot of his life reflected that. The shirt itself was just a plain grey tshirt, which matched well with the plain black workout shorts he was sporting. He somewhat wanted to explain how he did truly mean he was too hot for the clothing, as in his body temperature, but it seemed as if the teen across from him didn't care much either way. The other teen seemed perfectly fine with Lewis being half naked.
"I'd have to believe in ghosts in order to be worried about them" It was a bit of an ironic statement to make. Given how quirks worked, there was a good chance someone out in the world could be ghost-like. Not to mention Lewis looked like an actual devil so he really shouldn't judge what could be real and what couldn't. To Lewis though, ghosts were just scary stories to tell kids, like the boogeyman. As they continued their talk, the other, now giving him his name, took Lewis' tail much like he had expect, but then seemingly didn't let it go. The tail's texture was much like that of any other body part, nothing truly to make it stand out other than the fact it was a spade-shape-tipped tail.
"Nice to meet you Shinme, glad I didn't wake you or any others" It really didn't bother him that Shinme seemed to not want to let go of his tail. While he was conscious about his body, he was very used to others poking and prodding at his extra features. Most would poke his horns, trying to see if they were solid or hallow. They were in fact solid and still growing. "No takebacks, but unless you're looking to hold onto it when I go for my morning run I'll get it back eventually" Finally a faint smile grew on the teens face. It wasn't that he hadn't been happy or content beforehand, but the conversation seemed to be going in a more jovial direction which would allow Lewis to relax a little.
Finishing another rep, Lewis uncrossed his legs and gently lowered himself onto the ground. Bouncing slightly on his toes, he looked down to Shinme. "Oh no, not at all. I'd feel very bad for my mother if I came out with a full set of horns" Shaking his head with a laugh, he took the shirt off the others shoulder and put it over his own; he'd be needing it once his body cooled off a little. "I had little horn nubs when I was born, along with the red skin. A lot of this developed over time. The longer horns, the tail...the feet were painful as they changed" The young teens mutation quirk seemed to change and grow as he aged, so he wasn't even sure what to expect from it going forward.
"I'm sure I could write out some contracts, but I don't know how soul binding they'd be. Maybe someday I'll be able to bind them though. I'll have to keep trying it out I guess" Lewis tugged gently at his tail in an upward direction. He wasn't trying to pull his tail away, the other student seemed enthralled with it at the moment, but he was trying to get him to stand so they could be on a more even level. "What about yourself though? I'm assuming that was you trying to cool me off with that breeze a bit ago?"

| “Wrong! Sleep is a blessing that lets you heal, and prepares you for the rest of the day.” Everyone had their own opinion, and even though Shinme said so, Lewis wasn’t really wrong. They just disagreed, but that didn’t mean Shinme should be quiet about his own thoughts. He found some faults in the logic of not bothering people with his move if he arrived early, but that was really something he couldn’t fault him for. After all, in a sense, Shinme was early too. Two months early.
The plain grey T-shirt was in his hands at first, then ended up on his shoulder, and was promptly forgotten about. He stuck his tongue out at Lewis when he said he didn’t believe in ghosts, the remark warranted no more reaction, Shinme felt.
The tail felt much more interesting though, he squished the spade-shaped tip, followed its outline with his finger. It felt like meat and skin, like it was normal, except it wasn’t at all. In a non-quirker sense, at least. Shinme had no mutation accompanying his quirk, nothing he knew or, at least, nothing that was visible. He had a vague suspicion that his lungs or vocal chords, or something else about him must be different to bless him with the quirk he got, but he never bothered to see medical records on it, or visit a physician. There was no problem, so there was no point to it too.
He peered up. “Who knows, I might just run with you. Or take a piggy-back ride while holding on.” The mental image was already too much, and he had to laugh, clear and soft, skin creaking just barely around his eyes. It was honestly reassuring to see Lewis crack a smile as well, finally. It considerably softened his somewhat malicious appearance. If he always smiled that warmly, no one should be ever afraid of him.
So Lewis gradually took on the appearance he had right now. That was somewhat soothing, but Shinme couldn’t help but shiver at the possibility of a poor mother birthing someone with such horns... that would be painful, and probably tragic as well. He glanced at the pair of legs right in front of his eyes, and his expression grew uncharacteristically solemn. So, that hurt him growing up. “Like growing pain, but much, much worse.” He commented quietly, absentmindedly picking at the tip of the tail.
The fact Lewis went along with his joke about contracts made Shinme hum and wonder. Lewis either thought about the possibility and harbored ideas about it deep inside already, or was less dense than Shinme first assumed and took the joke and warped it some more. He raised a free hand to his chin, deep in thought, already thinking of possible usages for such contracts and tricks to get around the soul-stealing drawback it would – theoretically – bring. “Do you even have the ability for it though? I mean, really. Your quirk obviously isn’t just that “I look pretty and hot in red”, so what else can you do?” if not already able to write contracts, he added as an afterthought.
The tail in his hand moved, and Shinme took the hint, he stood with a smirk, noticing with an odd sense of pride that he was taller than the devilspawn of the school. The legs probably had to do something with it, but he wouldn’t know.
He pointed at himself, face the perfect form of innocence. “Me? What breeze? You said you didn’t believe in ghosts, so even if I told you that the dorm was haunted and the ghost targeted you, you wouldn’t believe me anyway.” With a cheeky grin, he danced around Lewis, the loose sleeves and sides of his haori flowing behind him, following the tail in his hand to check the student from the back. “What kinda pants are you wearing? Does it have a hole for your tail?” Or was it maybe hanging low enough on his hips that Shinme staring at it would be considered indecent on school grounds? “I can only imagine how much extra lengths someone like you had to go to get clothes that actually fit you.” Some designers certainly saw the possibilities in new brands for mutation type quirks, but those were still few and far in between. Just cutting a hole in a pair of jeans didn’t seem to do the trick, and it wasn’t stylish either.
Shinme was totally able to change the conversation if it didn’t interest him. And he still got to keep the tail though, so it was a win-win situation. “Are you made of fire inside?” He could feel the heat the body in front was letting out, and whenever Lewis opened his mouth, Shinme had a feeling he was staring in the throat of a Balrog. It was honestly awesome in an odd way.

Lewis shrugged a little, but gave a small nod. Sleep was very important to help the body heal, especially after grueling work outs. But in that sense, so was eating. Lewis figured though, much like eating, if you could figure out a way to maximize your intake, you could maximize your benefits. He was sure there was a way to do that with sleep much like you did with eating. But that was a thought for another day.
The teens tail flicked a little under Shinme's touch. While people had poked and prodded at it before, few willingly played with it as much as the other student had. It was different to say the least for Lewis. The tail playing was followed with a comment back to his running remark. Lewis eyed the other again and thought on it for a moment. "How much do you weigh? It could be a good weight training exercise" There was a brief pause for a second as Lewis thought before he shook his head. "No, the weight wouldn't be evenly distributed. It would probably cause more harm than good" The other suggestion could work. Having a running buddy would be a welcome change to his usual solo runs. Though, that would mean any running partner he had would have to wake up at the same time that he did, which was something he doubted many others wished to do.
"Less painful than you'd expect, but more painful than you'd like" That was the best way Lewis could explain his mutation. He had heard that some mutations occur at birth, while others happen all at once when someones quirk emerges. Lewis on the other hand seemingly was constantly mutating. And it was never a sudden mutation. Lewis seemingly took on more and more traits of a devil slowly as he grew. In all honesty, he didn't know what to expect next.
"Making contracts? I doubt that will be anything I can do ever. I'll leave that for Lucifer himself" With a small laugh and a shaking of his head, he shrugged once more. "I wouldn't say pretty, but maybe this is it, maybe I do just look like this and that's all" Lewis really only liked the physique he had carved for himself out of his constant exercise. All the other parts of it, the devil part of it, was something he didn't like. He was sure it had caused him more issues than it had solved as he grew, and he highly doubted it would be a benefit to him as he continued to age. Less importantly, but still a thing that weighed on his mind was the doubt anyone would ever want to date someone that looked like Satan. Well, maybe some weird devil cultist, but that's really not something the slightly pious Lewis Himura wanted to tangle himself up in.
The other was avoiding the question about himself and deflecting the conversation back to Lewis. Lu really didn't like talking about himself, to him there wasn't much to say and none of it was very important anyways. "Wind power, got it" he stated as the other continued on about the prospect of a ghost. He turned as the other asked him about his pants and pointed to where the tail emerged, near where the tailbone would be. The pants themselves had a small nub sewn out of them, and as the follow up question came, Lewis turned and extended his shirt ahead of him. He turned so the other student could see himself and the shirt, and when the question about clothing lead into that about being made of fire internally, Lewis exhaled a spray of fire forward onto the shirt. As the fire escaped his mouth, his body grew hotter, including his tail. While it wasn't enough to burn the ground or the hands of anyone who might be touching him, it would start to get uncomfortable for anyone without an ability to deal with the heat. After a few seconds, the fire stopped and the shirt was intact, the flames flickering momentarily off the hands that held the shirt. "Honestly, the biggest change is picking up fire resistant materials. I doubt my parents would like their child burning up their cloths and running around naked"
"Honestly, the fire isn't that impressive. It's not like other people who can fly or talk to animals, or the people who can turn their skin to like steel or rocks" With a small shaking of his head, Lu leaned against his doorframe, yellow eyes fixated on the other. "Enough about me, tell me about you"

| Shinme perked up, eyes shining when, at his piggy-back remark, Lewis asked back how much he weighted. The funny possibility that the student would be actually up to something so silly that was just an idea in the spur of the moment, made Shinme somewhat excited. His expression quickly turned into a pout though when Lewis discarded it with the same swiftness it came. “Don’t get my hopes up like that! Here I thought you would actually do it.” He whined, like this was his biggest problem in the world, like piggy-back-riding a hellspawn was among his resolutions for the new year.
No matter how much it hurt, pain was pain, whether expected or not. So Shinme felt a kind of sympathy for Lewis, far, far from pity. “You seem to be okay now though? Or are you still in pain sometimes?” Even if he couldn’t quite understand his situation of growing up with such a clear mutation quirk, he could feel for him.
“Pft, why leave the exciting thing for a Demon Lord when you can do it yourself?” He asked with mocking smile, honestly wondering if Lewis will even be able to make genuine contracts. He rolled his eyes hearing him be humble and downgrading his appearance and possible abilities. He had a feeling there was more to the boy, but he saw no point pressing the matter too much. He will figure out what else Lewis can do sooner or later anyway. “Prettiness is usually relative, so don’t be like that. I know not everyone can be stunning, but hey, someone surely has a thing for... horny guys like you.” An eyebrow wiggle to go with the sentence as an exclamation mark.
Another pout appeared on his face when Lewis pointed out his quirk right away. Shinme’s facial expressions were alternating between a pout and a smile at this point, and he was slowly getting tired of it. “Okay, Mister No-Fun, say it was the wind, they all say that in the movies and then they end up in trouble.” He pointed out the biggest cliché of ghostly horror movies. He shrugged, shaking off his pout and instead paying attention to clothing habits, definitely a much more interesting conversation topic.
Shinme had the bad habit of getting too immersed, and then not watching what he said or did. With the tail in his hand and the demonstration, his eyes were almost transfixed at the point where Lewis’s tail disappeared in his pants. He traced the seams of the nub where it emerged from and hummed, deep in thought. Whether it was an uncomfortable movement for the student or not, he wouldn’t know, as he was next distracted by the shirt that was, apparently, fireproof. Instead of leaning away from the fire, Shinme stared, dark eyes huge and shining in the sudden light. The tail in his hand grew warmer, and Shinme traced his fingers on the spade-shape before letting go, the skin getting too hot for him to tolerate. He let it slip out of his grasp just as the fireworks stopped.
“Wow.” He said in the end, very eloquently. “Wow.” He repeated, because really, what do you say to that. “That was some demonstration. Where do you get such material anyway? Do they make these in regular shops? All of your clothes are actually fireproof? You are like, a living fireplace, but doesn’t that mean you can rescue people from fires? Like, actually be all badass and walk in and just carry them out? Or would that be too much? Are YOU also fireproof?” A pause. “Ah, you said you can get too hot. You meant this, right? So you overheat?” And then, a thought. He twirled behind Lewis, and tried to flop on his back, chest to shoulder-blades, his arms hanged over and in front of Lewis’s body. He would rest his chin on his shoulder for a moment. “Oh gosh, this is heavenly,” he noticed the irony in his words, but cared little about it, “where were you when I was freezing in my room?” But it would only take a moment, if at all allowed, and then Shinme would be back in his line of sight as if nothing happened.
His thoughts were going a mile a second, but he latched onto Lewis’ question. Then again, fair was fair. “Yeah, so, funny thing you mentioned people being able to fly, haha.” A shirtless devil being all cool and leaning on the doorframe was certainly a sight. “Anyway, no idea what to say. Your assumption about wind was pretty on point before, so there is no need to elaborate on that. I don’t know, ask specific questions, maybe? A Q&A, except I do the same? I need to practice doing interviews anyway. Also,” he pushed on Lewis’ chest with a cold hand, “invite me in already. Rude.”

"Nothing a little exercise can't occupy the mind away from" he said in regards to being in pain. That was honestly not something that had crossed Lewis' mind in a very long time. He was so used to the next-day-gain-pains that any other pain just seemed to meld into itself. Maybe there was another mutation happening to him and he just brushed it off as his muscles repairing themselves. He couldn't really take a break from his work though, a day lost was a day not progressing forward.
He really doubted he'd every get the ability to make soul binding contracts like a demon of lore, but it was a funny concept to play with. Maybe he could get some sort of support item like heroes had, and make his involve contracts some how. How would that even work? The thought was quickly pushed aside as Shinme commented on his looks again. Lewis really wasn't a fan of discussing looks, especially his own. He knew what he looked like and he didn't like it. How anyone could find his looks attractive was beyond him. He pushed his mind through the talk and continued on however, ignoring it for now.
"See though, movies aren't reality either. So, really, it's a mute point" Lewis wasn't trying to be a downer on what the other may have seen as a fun or joking conversation, he was, in his mind at least, pointing out the facts. Ironic having grown up in a very religious household, but facts and provable things meant a lot to the young man. But the words seemed to lead into that of his clothing, and soon the other was tracing his cloths by the base of his tail. That was highly unexpected and not really something Lewis was interested in having happened. This may have been evident by his body jerking slightly, and then everything quickly moving to the fire demonstration.
"Uh, that'd be a question for my parents. They, uh...they buy my cloths for me" While not an introvert, Lewis was not a fan of going out in public unless he needed to. Also given how his cloths needed to be tailored to his specific needs, it was all best left to his mother and father. It was why a lot of his cloths were so plain and bland; often just grey, black, or white. It really didn't bother him however, they were functional and that's what mattered. It wasn't important that they be colourful or flashy.
"I'm sure I could help people out of situations like that, but I retain a lot of heat so I may burn some people by accident" he explained, rubbing the back of the neck. The other student was asking a lot of questions, semi-personal ones too. He really didn't see the purpose in ever talking about himself. He really wasn't that important in the grand scheme of things, and there wasn't a lot to talk about anyways. His body quickly jerked again as the other asked some more questions and then sprawled over him. "Sorry, but please don't do that" His voice quieted slightly as he made his request, the somewhat confident and tall stance shrinking into a bit more of a huddled one as he slinked away from under the other. He didn't mind others getting close to him, but unexpectedly and without permission was highly unacceptable and uncomfortable for the young man.
As he moved to the opposite side of the hallway to the other, he shook his head. "I don't really overheat, I just heat up more. I can handle the heat, but the hotter I get, the higher the chance the things around me wont be able to handle it" He hadn't truly tested his own limits yet, but he had yet to find a temperature he couldn't handle. Thankfully his parents were all gung-ho on helping him figure out his quirk that even when Lewis burnt things by testing his heat limits, they were proud of him. He couldn't count the number of chairs his family had to buy because of him.
Luckily the talk switched finally to the other. His guess had been right, but then Shinme asked to be invited into his room. Though Lewis had nothing to hide, he took down his bar and then closed the door. "Perhaps talk in the living room? Or go for a run? I could go for another few laps" He had shifted a little to avoid the hand on his chest. He really wasn't the most comfortable with any form of physical embracing outside of a handshake, especially with somebody he had just met. And as he avoided the hand, he nodded towards the front of the dorms. "I would assume with wind powers, you could regulate your breathing? I bet you don't run out of breath easily right? Good at track probably?"

| Shinme could see that talking about ghosts with Lewis was absolutely pointless. Strange enough, the boy was more of a realist than he seemed, feet planted firmly on the ground, while Shinme was the complete opposite. Half of his heritage, half of his family was deeply rooted in mysticism and legends, so talking about ghosts, reincarnations and magical senses were as normal for him as discussing what he ate yesterday.
He just barely noticed the slight twitch as he checked the seams on Lewis’ pants, and then was completely distracted by the fire and other possibilities. “I see. But you will have to buy your own clothes sooner or later.” Shinme did that, and not only because he had his own money, but also because he preferred having various styles of clothing for any mood and occasions, so buying him anything was kind of a hit-and-miss. “Hm, makes sense. You might be fine in the fire for a bit, but you could burn others...” That could pose to be a problem. But Shinme wasn’t even sure why he was focusing on that rather than his own future as a hero.
The uncomfortable voice asking him not to touch was harder to miss than the little twitch, so when Shinme released Lewis, he held up his palms in front of him, “Sorry, sorry!” as an apology. No touch. Noted. He can totally do that.
Except he totally couldn’t, and almost touched the student’s chest, would have succeeded if the other didn’t nimbly step away. He drew his hand back with an apologetic smile, and another round of “Sorry, sorry”. He should have brought a rope to tie his hands together, maybe that would have been more effective. The denial to be invited inside was another thing that made it obvious Shinme fell off a track that seemed to be pretty fine at the start. Utter rejection. He can deal with that. Just step in his mouth and cut off his hands, that could work.
“The living room sounds fine, I am not up for a run right now.” With a bright smile, he twirled around as an indication that they could go toward the hall, and he expected Lewis to follow. He laced his hands together behind him, fingers holding each other as if holding back the urge to fidget and grab onto things he shouldn’t. “Not quite, it’s actually the opposite. I mean, sure, I can regulate my breathing, but that is more thanks to me practicing singing, and the breathing exercises rather than my power. I actually suffocate if I use my quirk too much, hahaha!” He added a laugh, and said the whole thing in a light tone as if he wasn’t talking about dying after controlling his wind for too long. “So I don’t know how good I would be at track. I know I can run for a while, but it’s different when I have to run laps around, rather than, you know, anywhere I want. Also, rather than run, I would just fly, and I am pretty sure that would be considered cheating.”
The lounge wasn’t far away, just a little hallway and a few steps down. It was big and cozy, couches and armchairs were circling low tables to comfortably sit at, and there were still space to walk around. Shinme headed straight for a couch and plopped down, bouncing on the mattress before settling, comfortably leaning back and looking at Lewis expectantly to do the same. In case Lewis decided to sit on the couch as well, Shinme would stand and relocate to an armchair opposite of the boy, so there would be a low table between them.
“So, why this school?” He asked, following up on his Q&A promise. “You surely had a reason for wanting to be a hero rather and an, I don’t know, accountant or a car racer?” Going ahead of the follow up question, he decided to answer too. “I just thought it would be fun, and I am kind of working towards being famous already.“ It sounded way too shallow and selfish like that, but the urge to protect others and help those in need was so deeply rooted in Shinme, so natural that he couldn’t quite voice it.

That had honestly been a thought Lewis had dreaded for a long while; having to buy his own cloths. It was something so simple and so easy to do, but it was easier for him to just have his parents do it for him. Even with being used to the looks people gave him, it didn't make the jeers and leers any less painful to experience. Maybe he could start buying himself things online for delivery. With that he could avoid a lot of looks at least. Perhaps that was a good idea to explore.
He nodded to the other on their comment about the chance of burning others, followed by another nod as he apologized. More than likely just a slip of the mind, he was apologized to again when the other once more tried to touch him. Maybe Shinme was just a very hands on type of person, meaning Lewis' requests would be a hard thing to handle. That's what Lewis figured at least.
The conversation luckily diverted the thoughts from Shinme's touching to Shinme's explanation of his powers. Lewis made a mental note of it all and began to wonder if there were any exercises he could recommend to the other. Perhaps not though, as the other seemed to be a singer and had already worked on some breathing exercises. He thought of suggesting holding his breath under water, as it was something Lewis had done help himself with his lung capacity for his running and boxing, but he was sure some of Shinme's training had already covered something similar to that.
"Flying must be nice" Lewis' comment was followed with the student taking a seat in the armchair before looking outside. Getting to see the world from above must have been spectacular. Lewis' mind wandered to the idea of flying over his hometown and seeing everyone below him, feeling the wind blowing through his hair. It was a really pleasant thought. His mind was snapped back into reality as he was questioned again, this time about why he was here.
"Uh, mostly for my parents" A slight rubbing of the back of his neck followed and he gave a little nod. "They, um...They seem to think I'm a gift from above, sent to absolve people of their sins" It was a bit of an awkward thing to discuss. Lewis knew not a lot shared his families beliefs, and that a lot of people could be hostile to the discussion of it all. Lewis didn't see the need for any hostility though, and actually enjoyed the discussion about the topic. He also loved hearing others beliefs on the matter, feeling everyone was entitled to see the world how they wished to see it. But, again, he knew not everyone was comfortable with the topic. "I don't think they think I'm some sort of messiah, but I think they see me as someone who could help guide people on their own correct paths. I think that's what they mean when they tell me they think I'm here to absolve people of their sins. I owe them a lot too, they've been so supportive and loving. I just want to show them their faith in me wasn't misplaced"
His words were followed with a pause before he hung his head and shook it. "Sorry, that was a lot to dump onto you" He had honestly made himself quite uncomfortable. He had shared a lot and he really wasn't a fan of talking about himself. It was a waste of time and energy, he wasn't much to talk about. No one gained anything from it.
"Fame would be neat. You said you sing? Would you rather be a singer or a hero?"

| The explanation of his quirk earned him no more than a simple comment, but one that made Shinme grin. That was the usual reaction, a little wistful mention of flying, because that was something most people would love to try out, if given the opportunity. He couldn’t fault them, it was indeed a very exhilarating experience. He found it somewhat reassuring Lewis was no different, and it gave him an idea he might throw out there later. Whenever he wasn’t threading on thin ice due to his previous blunder about being overly touchy-feely.
“It is very nice!” He flopped on the couch, bouncing once, then he pulled up his legs into a loose cross-legged stance, holding his ankles so his hands would have something to do. He watched Lewis with interest that way, slightly leaning forward, but rocking himself from side to side in his sitting. Continue moving, as if he couldn’t stop even for a moment.
The conversation took a strange turn when he asked about his reasons, but Shinme was far from getting uncomfortable. The last thing he expected to talk with a devilspawn about was religion. But come to think of it, he shouldn’t be that surprised, given the reference, but still. He listened, because western beliefs were so different than the Taoism and Shintoism he grew up in it always made him pay attention. He almost said every parent thinks their child is a gift from above, but when Lewis elaborated, Shinme understood his meaning.
He hummed in thought, but when Lewis apologized, he just waved his hand with a grin. “Nah, no need to feel sorry for. I asked, and you answered. Also, it is as good of a reason as any, to be here. Is your family heavily religious? They sound like it. Christianity? I’m not too well-versed about it, for obvious reasons, but this whole... absolving thing seems interesting. What exactly does that mean? What are you meant to do for that? If you are supposed to be more of a guide, wouldn’t that make you a guardian spirit instead? Wait, Christianity doesn’t have guardian spirits. That would count as idolatry, and that is a no-no.” One hand was raised to his chin, deep in thought as he said everything that came to mind without much of a filter, without considering if he came off as rude or ignorant about Lewis’ religion.
He was still frowning in thought when Lewis asked his next question, but Shinme wouldn’t have minded if the conversation continued on the previous track either. “Hmmm, singer or a hero? Why not both?” He smiled. “I don’t feel that I will need to give up one for the other, I can sing and be a hero at the same time. I can give charity concerts, then offer the money to orphanages or areas hit by a catastrophe. And then I can go catch some villains or save people from a tornado. I’m flexible, and I have energy, so I can keep up with it all. Aside from singing, I’m also going to learn dancing and maybe acting too, so I can be even more versatile.” It was all big words for bigger plans, and hearing it from anyone else would have made it unrealistic, but for some reason, Shinme was so excited and confident about it that it didn’t seem like a fantasy at all.
“But back to what we were talking about before, your parents seem nice. Wasn’t being like this” he vaguely waved a hand at Lewis, indicating his looks “weird for them?” His eyes were innocent and curious, no hostility behind them. He would expect Christian parents to be a bit more than shocked by having a son that looked like the devil they always warn others about, but Lewis only had good things to say about them.

While Lewis sat normally on his seat, Shinme seemed to just exude energy. Even when he crossed his legs on the couch, he still seemed to bounce and sway. Lewis could understand maybe an electric related quirk giving someone boundless energy, but wind powers didn't seem to tie into that. Perhaps Shinme was just, simply, full of energy. That wasn't anything out of the ordinary to be fair, but it was a noticeable trait at least.
Religion was definitely a strange topic to get into, especially considering where they lived. While Western beliefs like his weren't super common in Japan, there were still some people who followed the teachings. There were a few million in the country, but that was a small percentage given how many people lived in the country.
While not taken aback, he was somewhat surprised at Shinme's response. He actually seemed interested in his families beliefs. He looked down and to the side briefly as Shinme talked, not really used to someone asking him the questions he was asking. "My dad runs a parish. That's kind of like a, uh...designated region of Churches. He's a pretty important figure in the community, back home at least. So ya, you could say we're pretty heavily religious" While the parish wasn't monstrously huge, there were still a couple of Churches and pastors under his father. Lewis wasn't sure exactly how long his family had been following the Western belief, but it went back to at least his grandfather. His face somewhat contorted in thought as Shinme questioned exactly what absolving someone of their sins meant, and then added about guardian spirits and idolatry. "Well, the most common way I know of giving absolution of ones sins is through Confession. If a criminal is willing to admit their mistakes, correct them, and work to make up for them, I suppose that could help absolve them" He thought for another moment, thinking now more on the guardian spirit comment. "Ehn, hm, well...Kind of but not really? There's Saints, heck even Pastors and Bishops themselves, which I would argue are kind of our version of Guardian Spirits. Saints can be prayed to for guidance, protection, and the like, while Heads of the Church like a Pastor can give you advice and offer guidance." There had been some hesitation, even self-questioning, in Lewis' voice as he first explained his point. While it was probably not correct to call a Saint a Guardian Spirit, it wasn't inaccurate to make a comparison.
Lewis listened to Shinme's own explanation and he gave a nod. That made sense, of course he could do both, or even more as he elaborated. "That is a lot to focus on. But keeping yourself occupied is never a bad thing" Lewis himself did that a lot. He was always doing something so as to not be alone with his thoughts. Maybe Shinme was much the same, or maybe he just liked doing things. He had a lot of energy, like he had said. "If you had to pick one though? Let's say you can only do one; singing, dancing, acting, or hero work? Which would be top of your list?" That was a question Lewis had asked himself when he was first applying to schools. His answer ended up being actually super mundane; a fitness instructor. He loved exercise and it was something he was good at. If he had to choose only one thing to do and he couldn't multitask in life, that's probably what he'd end up doing.
Lewis laughed a little and shook his head. The conversation went back to him and specifically about his parents. A smile reached his face and stayed as he thought about his parents. He loved them, they were probably his two favourite people in life. "Hah, you'd think so, but no. My dad loves a good bit of irony" Thinking about his parents, Lewis just gave a small nod and continued. "They actually thought they were going to have a girl and they settled on the name Lucy. When they had a boy, my dad went between calling me Lewis and Lucy, the latter being a play on the name Lucifer, like Satan himself. My dad thought himself hilarious for that" While Lewis didn't like talking about himself, his parents were a different story. They were simply amazing in Lewis' mind and deserved all the praise he could give them. "How I looked was never a concern for them, just that I was happy, healthy, and treated everyone with respect and how I'd like to be treated"
After another small pause, Lewis shook his head with the smile still on his face. "Sorry, again. Rambling. Tell me more about yourself please. Your family? How did they react to your Quirk? Or your want to sing?"

| Shinme was swaying from side to side, but when Lewis talked, he listened, occasionally leaning forward on his legs. The whole couch was his, so there were room to move around without bothering anyone sitting beside him. As far as he could tell, Lewis didn’t mind talking about religion, and Shinme’s questions didn’t make him uncomfortable or angry either. So that was a win in his book, and his curiosity was satisfied as well. He tried his best to commit the words to memory, especially the parts of the teachings that were so different from Taoism he is used to.
“So your dad is a priest...?” That created a lot of questions, all different in theme from their current conversation topic, so Shinme wasn’t about to ask them. He did, however, found it quite interesting that Christians prayed to Saints, though he was somewhat confused why that wasn’t considered idolatry. “Well, if Saints can be considered Guardian Spirits... In a sense, that would make you a Saint, wouldn’t it, as you are supposed to guide people?” He didn’t know how one would become a Saint though, so this line of thought might as well be a complete off-track. Even Lewis seemed somewhat deep in thought by the conversation, so maybe he didn’t know everything either.
The topic changed somewhat, and Shinme was, after all, forced to make a choice between idol and hero work. He wasn’t as bothered by it as one would expect, instead he tackled the question with a carefree attitude. “If I had to pick one? Well. Considering I am just starting hero school, and I have no idea if I have the affinity to become a hero at all, I would choose singing. Singing is my life, had been my life so far, and if I have to figure it out right now, that would be my choice. But who knows what happens in two years, huh? Let’s get back to the question when I graduate.” He raised three fingers to his temple in a kind of salute, as was the way to make a promise in China. “Don’t forget to ask me again later.”
He perked up at the laugh, a little flutter of happiness melting in his chest upon hearing it. That means his previous mess-up was either forgotten, forgiven, or otherwise not found important. Shinme’s anxiety started to dissolve slowly, so he was swaying in place with a newfound grin as he listened to the story of the parents. A laugh burst out of him, mild and sudden like a chime. “Your father is a genius.” To take Lewis’ appearance and make fun of it in a special manner, his father made it also easier to accept his difference. At least that was how Shinme saw it. But in any case. “Lucy! Lucy! Can I call you Lucy too?” He was grinning, the question obviously a joke. “Nah, I probably shouldn’t take your dad’s idea, I should let him have this” he nodded, but filed the idea for later, deciding to call Lewis by names either when he was mad or when he wanted the other student to pay attention to him.
Then, he just shook his head, and waved with a hand, as if swatting away a fly. “Oh please. If you ramble, I don’t even know what to call what I am doing usually.” A laugh, to ease himself into a topic that he could certainly ramble about to prove his point. “One half of my family is full of quirkers and immortals.” A grin. “Well, only half of that is true, but I will let you decide which half. Okay, so, jokes aside, they were pretty tolerant about it. That half of my family was even happy, and helped me train and gain better control of my powers. As for my singing, no one minded it. I was singing all day long as a kid, and my mother also has powers tied to her voice, so it seemed pretty natural to develop it more, you know.” He pulled his hair to his front, curling the tip between his fingers. “They even trained me. My singing, I mean. To get better. But let me tell you, they were strict!” His face contorted into mock hurt. “It’s lucky I love to sing, otherwise learning would’ve been hellish.” Shinme was a master of rambling without giving out crucial information, as he was doing right then. He could talk about his family, about how he learned singing without even once mentioning what his mother or father was doing, or what exactly happened during his childhood years. Having a politician as a parent was somewhat useful, in the end.
“By the way, what would you be, if not a hero? A priest? Or something else? I guess it would be pretty weird seeing you teach in a church, huh. Not many people are able to boast with the fact they are taught by Satan himself.”

Shinme seemed to have boundless energy. The boy seemed like he couldn't sit still. Perhaps he had ADHD, or perhaps he was just antsy. None of that was a bad thing mind you, but it was definitely something Lewis had noticed while the two talked. For someone with so much energy though, it was odd that he mentioned how much he liked sleeping. Maybe he had so much energy because he slept so much?
The thought was pushed aside as the two continued to talk. Lewis gave the back of his neck a little rub and then shook his head. "Hah...no, it's uh, it's not that easy to become a Saint" Lewis looked at his hands for a second, then back over to Shinme. "You kinda have to be dead to become a Saint. Not only that, you usually have to perform some miracles during your life" He paused as he spoke, thinking back to more of what he learned from his family. Theology was an interesting topic and Lewis felt like he knew a fair bit about the subject. At least in a Western sense. He knew a fair bit about his own stuff, but he was always eager to learn about other teachings. "Maybe if I do enough good in life I can be canonized after I pass. That's not really something I want to aim for though, y'know? Like, I don't want to do good so I can become a Saint; I want to do good because that's what people should do. People would want to be good, to leave the world in a better place than it was when they were around" He wasn't sure how to fully word it. It would feel disingenuous to want to become a Saint. To Lewis, it wasn't something someone should try to become; it was selfish to have it as a goal. But if one did good and was recognized for it after they passed, that was just an added bonus to all the good one could do. Even if no one ever recognized the good that Lewis hoped to do in the future, the fact that he knew what he'd do was all that mattered to him.
The conversation luckily went back to Shinme, even if it was briefly. The focus had been on Lewis a bit too much for his own liking, so it was really easing for Lewis to hear Shinme's replies. He untensed a little bit from their previous conversation and sat a bit further back in his seat. His eyes were focused on the other teen as he spoke, giving a slight nod as he did. He seemed so passionate about singing, it was incredible. A smile appeared on Lewis' face as the other talked, before giving a firm nod. "I'll hold you to that and be sure to ask about it when we graduate" It was another weird thought to think that they would graduate in just over two years time. Life was speeding up for sure, they were almost adults.
Lewis was happy to see Shinme's response to his story about his family and his dad. While the two had only just met, Lewis felt the two had been getting along well, and it was good to have such a positive response to what he was saying. His already red face tinted a it more red as Shinme began repeating the name Lucy. "Lucy is fine. He's actually introduced me a few times to people as Lucy. Lu works too actually. I go by all three of those equally, if I'm being honest with you" While, obviously, Lewis could only sign his name legally as Lewis, it didn't mean he couldn't introduce himself or go by any of the three. Lewis. Lucy, Lu; all were perfectly fine with him. Shinme also seemed to really like the idea of Lucy, so the devilish teen made sure to put his concerns at ease in regards to stealing his dads idea.
When Shinme retorted about his rambling, Lewis sat back once more and smiled. The other went to town describing his family and his training. It put a smile on Lewis' face. He really loved learning about people. Shinme seemed genuinely happy with his family and growing up situation. A good few people Lewis had talked to in the past always seemed to have some grimdark, psuedo-edgelord backstory filled with trauma and misery. While Lewis wouldn't fault anyone for the trauma they dealt with, it seemed almost way too common of an occurrence. But to hear that Shinme's family was supportive and helped him learn was great to hear. "It sounds like you had a good childhood with caring parents. I'm glad they were so supportive!" Lewis committed everything Shinme told him to memory as best he could. The two were getting along well, so it would be good information to have, especially if they hung out again.
"Hm, I'm sure my dad would love for me to become a Pastor like him. I feel like 50% of him wanting that would be because he thinks I'd fit the role well, and the other 50% is just for the hilarity and irony of seeing a devil preach" Lewis let out a small laugh as he talked, shaking his head at the thought of his dad. The man knew no bounds when it came to ironic humour. "Honestly though, if I got to pick, probably a Fitness Instructor. I love exercise...maybe a Boxing instructor for the same reason" Neither were super impressive. Both were honestly super mundane in comparison to what Shinme had wanted to do. "Nothing near as impressive as being a famous singer"
