1. GENERAL INFORMATION
Q: Where can I find the various rosters and factions?
A: You can find the students rosters, seatings and dorms here as well as the cross, vigilante and villain factions: truepath.xyz/board/113/player-factions-rosters
Q: Can I create an NPC?
A: Yes. Please review the NPC creation information here: truepath.xyz/thread/5467/npc-information. Players can create level 1 and level 2 NPCs which have a super minimal impact on the world.
Q: How long is a post?
A: Combat posts aren’t discrete units of time. However, it’s generally “a couple seconds” as you should never write a post too long for anyone else to react to. This also means that combat against groups or enemies, or chase scenes might have “longer” posts. (Timewise. Not wordcount wise.)
Q: What's the difference between Fame, Wealth and Influence?
A: On TP, Fame is not an ability. Fame comes naturally to characters through roleplay, and having high skills in a public area, such as music, journalism, or acting. Fame carries no inherent benefits--it is simply a measure of how well known you are, and is not a statistic we track, or have a rank for.
Wealth is a skill using the standard G-SSS metric, and represents the amount of "buying power" your character has. It can be linked to a second skill your character has (such as singing) or represent a business, or inherence, but always requires a separate skill--you do not have wealth simply because you are good at singing, acting, or medicine. (You might have gotten a shitty deal with your agent, or not be allowed to practice medicine legally). Wealth also specifically represents an above average amount of money--you don't need a wealth rank to live comfortably.
Influence is a skill similar to Wealth in effect, and Fame in theme. Unlike Fame, however, it is also ranked on a G-SSS rank, and must be purchased. It represents people willing to do you favors because of who you are, such as people willing to let a well-known pop star into restricted areas to get an autograph, or lend a down-on-their-luck hero their car. Of course, you don't need influence to get people to do favors for you--RP is more important. But if you have influence, you can always "justify" having someone around to help you out if it's remotely plausible
Q: How does Durability stack up vs Firearms?
A: To explain common Firearms and Durability, let’s look at G rank strength vs G rank durability. This would be “an average human punching” vs “an average human’s natural toughness,” which basically means that each hit will hurt, stagger, and eventually incapacitate the victim, but over the course of time, and several blows. (Of course, this is also modified if vitals are hit.)
A standard service pistol, which is relatively uncommon in Japan outside of law enforcement due to Japan’s strict gun control laws, does D rank damage. This makes D-rank durability around equal to a kevlar vest--bullets will hurt, knock you back, and if fired repeatedly, eventually break bones, and incapacitate or kill you.
From this, I’d elaborate that E rank Durability vs a D rank firearms also carries the risk of puncture wounds (closer to a gentle stabbing than a punch), and C rank durability vs D rank firearms changes it to something closer to a light, glancing blow--a punch from someone significantly weaker than you.
Of course, pistols are not the only firearm in us--police and criminals potentially have access to Shotguns and Longarms (which are around C rank Strength), and more specialized, large bore/high stopping power weapons, which could go all the way up to A rank.
Q: Are Site Roles (Villain, Vigilante, Student, Hero, Civilian) IC or OOC?
A: Both. Roles with a strict, maintained, in-universe registry are both IC and OOC designations. There's a canonical list, application process, and requirements for Students and Heroes. Roles such as "Vigilante," "Villain" and even "Civilian" are primarily OOC designations--the character themselves might not even use that label. We consider Vigilantes people who break the law out of service to a "higher cause," or at least try to abide by certain behavior. Villains as characters that actively attempt to promote an "evil" ethos, or act out of selfish desire with no regard to the health of civilians, and civilians as a "catch-all" category for characters that might not strongly fit another role.
This obviously doesn't work well with how events, and in-character chats are currently managed, so we're going to be lifting restrictions on major faction chatrooms, adding IC moderation (Staff-Controlled NPCs, and some big-name PCs), and opening more non-student/hero events to other factions. (Aka, a Civilian Mercenary who takes jobs from high bidders being allowed in an event like Shinigawa), as long as their goals are "aligned" with the faction the event's primarily designed for.
(We're finishing writing up rules for IC chats before lifting restrictions. This could also means there shouldn't be meta-knowledge of a character's role, ask the player or staff "would I know them")
Also, egg on our face, there wasn't full agreement among staff on this issue before now--we inherited some rules that didn't age well from the earlier days, and past moderation of the site, so we're trying to clean/clear it up.
Q: Can I make solo threads and how often?
A: Solo threads can get a maximum reward of 10 exp. At most you can write one solo per week.
Q: Can I have multiple characters on one account?
A: You can only have two characters per single-slot, and only if the quirk warrants it. (see Cordycep) Otherwise no, they need to be separate character slots.
