So I wanna preface this that the reason I came to suggest this may have an admittadly selfish element. I am currently in a position were 2 of my characters have EP for companions, however, while I understand the line of "you should rp for fun" it feels wasteful not to maximize my situation, so I feel I can't spend my EP on companions, becuase if I convert my EP into exp, then wait till I have 500 more exp and convert that into EP, I will have maximized my profits.
(2 EP now, spend on companions, wait for 500 exp = 1 companion, +500 total exp
2 EP now, convert into exp, wait for 500 more exp = 1 companion +1000 total exp for the same effort)
So yeah, it's a selfish suggestion but not one I feel is a bad suggestion generally. A while ago we banned the use of EP across characters, so if I had EP on Yumi I could not buy a companion for Mia. To me that was to prevent cross-character funding. EP has a use in that respect of not adding to total exp, I can use EP on Yumi to get a starter pack for Casper, which shows I spent time preparing for that expenditure and I'm rewarded for it.
In any case, the key suggestion, rather than having EP spending add to total exp-
SUGGESTION - Companions should cost 500 exp, not 2 EP
The reason I think this is better is that it would-
- Allow Companion purchases to add to total exp regardless of the source
- Reduce the issues created when someone is trying to maximize their returns on the systems without really causing much more issues (as I showed above, I'm earning EP and exp either way, I just have to wait and rp for longer to 'game the system' The same amount of effort and rp is being put in either way its just a test of patience for maximized benefit)
- It would allow someone who prefers to focus on a companion based character to purchase a companion with starter pack experience (I plan on Axel to be companion focused for instance)
And... yeah. I don't really know how to structure my ideas but I hope this comes off like a sound suggestion? Either way, I will have earned the EP through whatever means, It is being invested in the same character, the only difference is my total exp won't go up. I could load up all 5 of my combat slots with companions, and my total exp would not increase if all the EP was earned from events and sagas. This would help change that. It should also not be hard to implement since I think about 5 people have companions tops.
