Keiko stood around, watching as the evening rolled in with orange splendour. Another day, another dollar, was that the expression? It worked here, seeing as this was a trial run against the giant ziggurat yet again. She did have a little issue with this contestant, seeing as he'd been gone for a while, about a couple of months or so at this point. Hopefully he wouldn't return lazy and actually put up a fight – the teacher was well aware of plans he had drawn up before to beat the ever-present building on campus. Fort Slog was a tough cookie to crack, even for the best heroes around, as they would use it to train just in case they felt their abilities were lacking. That being said, some of the students were really showing off how good they were in terms of power, some even surpassing the heroes on the job. Not that it was a complaint, that meant that Aquitaine was doing her job right, and on that end, it meant that villains from all around would get pretty messed up when they graduated from U.A!
However, even with the enthusiasm she had for them to succeed, she still required the whole ordeal to be tough, and some of those kids had the tenacity. However, as strong as he was, the teacher had some... doubts when thinking about Redarcc Hunter, often referred to as Red. He had guts, but from her point of view, lacked the drive to go and kick ass on his accord, doing well more or less for the sake of it than having a goal to doing it. And ever since he'd apparently just up and left the school, it made it all the more worrying that he was coming back after being MIA. The teacher simply stood watch, occasionally taking looks at Fort Slog, set to the difficulty that he wanted it at. That was the other thing – most students practised on Hard, so they could go up a rank with preparation in the final physical exam. Red, however, wanted to go on Rookie, despite absence. It was rather bold, quite cocky, and almost certainly reckless. But, if that's what he wanted, who was she to deny such a request.
The course was fairly stacked, lots of trials in terms of physical ability as well as testing the mettle of a person to see if they had what it took to be a hero. It took a couple of hours to get everything sorted, so much so they had to push back the start time, so now the course glistened in the sunset, light bouncing off of the glass and steel frame, up to the highest point. All that remained was for the challenger to step up, or back down. Keiko hoped for the former, but also partially wished for the latter, lest she get into trouble with her employers. She didn't want to help a kid out, only for him to get trampled from inexperience.

"Hey, I want a slog run." Was how Arthur decided to introduce himself to Keiko after being absent for 2 months. No pleasentries, no explaining where the fuck he'd been, or anything like that. Hell, the only reason he even talked to her was cause she had been in her office at the time. He'd been planning on just sticking the paperwork on her desk and hoping she just set it up him.
But, unfortunatly, she was not eating chicken in the staff room like he had assumed she would have been doing around when his free period was. She was instead burying her paperwork under coffee bags and snacks. So he had to give her vague answers on where he'd been for the past two months. He just said he was dealing with some personal stuff, family business, that kinda crap.....God it didnt feel good using those excuses again but eh, she didnt need to know.
The conversation was pretty simple after that. He just said he wanted to make sure he wasnt rusty after being away for summer plus extra, and that he wanted to go on Rookie. You know, to "Really test if he was still fit". He'd wanted to jump in pretty much as soon as he told her, but unfortunatly some second years had been running the thing the period before and they were on Hard, so it'd take a couple hours to get everything set up properly.
Which was fine with him, since he had a midterm to do in the afternoon anyway. Because clearly doing an obstacle course that could give actual pro heroes a run for their money was JUST the right kind of preperation for a chemistry midterm. You know, instead of studying like a normal bloody person. He wondered if Keiko was annoyed or impressed with that.
Either way, while she was configuring the place for him, Arthur spent most of his time as vacant as possible. He'd picked up a couple tricks from Jung back in Korea so he could pretty much hide from everyone. Sure, he'd informed the teachers he was back and handed in all the work he'd been asking Feng to grab for him while he sorted out all of Reds old stuff.....which was a lot considering that was an entire months work he had to do in like a week. But he didnt know if he was emotionally prepared to deal with talking to Reds friends yet.
Though he doubted he could hide from everyone. Sure, Feng knew he was back, but he had asked her to keep it on the down low and....he could have sworned that Jace kid might have seen him....then again he could probably just stare at the kid slightly menacingly and he'd fall over and not say a word afterwards, dude seemed like he'd jump at anything.
No one else had seemed to notice anyway, which was good. He really didnt wanna get jumped by all of them asking where the fuck he'd been....Especially not a certain redhead who he didnt know if he could hold his anger in check and not break her face so she couldnt model ever agai---ok yeah keeping a low profile was turning out to be a really good idea.
Once that test was over, and he'd managed to escape by silently jumping out the window, He'd head over to the fort and just...stand there. Looking at the door in his own little world, quirk gear newly repaired....Well, "Repaired". They worked and didnt explode, and that was good enough for the moment. His face was hidden underneath Reds old hoodie, another attempt to keep people off his back....and also to hide how he felt. Cause he didnt know if he was excited or nervous about this run.
"Go left and up, there'll be a pressure plate you have to dodge, then right, bounce off the wall to dodge the turrets, duck behind the wall...." He'd mutter, running through possible scenarios he was about to encounter in the fort. Red had EXTENSIVE notes on this place, exact room specifications, traps, ideal routes, the whole shebang. The only problem was, thanks to its construction, the place was modular. So, Keiko could easily change the rooms on you if she wanted to throw you a curveball, make sure you couldnt be fully prepared......which is why Red came up with the RFID tag system.
It was pretty simple really. Even with this schools budget and them having an entire support class to build death traps for them, they couldnt make infinite rooms. Eventually, they'd have to re-use rooms that had already been in the rotation, to save money. Like how mock exam papers can sometimes have the same questions on them from previous years. So, if you had a way of figuring out which room was which, you would have a massive advantage....which is where the tags come in.
All it took was a couple seconds out of a run, but the plan was easy. When you enter a room, stick a tag down somewhere inconsicious, somewhere they wouldnt look or, barring that, somewhere they could easily miss something small. Then, use your notes of the rooms you made from repeated runs to program those tags with the rooms specs. Then program your goggles to automatically read said tags when you enter a room. Bingo, you have a cheat sheet for the entire fort. Red'd devised it after he found out that the rooms could change the hard way....boy was that a fun day.
"Heh......hope you dont mind if a borrow your word....buddy." He'd mumble to himself, looking up at the sky with a meloncholic smile on his face. He wondered if Red looked the view from up there.......assuming he was really gone. Which he wasnt....he couldnt be. He was still around somewhere, and Arthur was gonna find him even if it fuckin killed him. Which is why he was here in the first place. Maybe beating this damn place would wake the guy up, or atleast make him mumble in his sleep or somethin......god he hated the silence these days.
But, luckily, he couldnt dwell on thoughts like that. The prep was finally done, and he was pretty sure he was clear to start once he walked in the front door and the buzzer went off. So, with a small breath, he'd head through the doors, and get himself ready to head straight for the top. Where Red probably was. He always liked places that were high up, after all.
