Wasn't every day he exactly heard about an occult shop 'round the block and Narcissa seemed to be really into that stuff so after all the awful shit she'd been through...maybe it would be nice to get her a brand spankin' new deck of tarot cards? Something with really nice art and close attention to detail, something that felt like a solid fit and made him think of her off the bat? The chick was great at mixing margaritas, but hell, a new deck for her might be nice. Admittedly, though he wasn't as into it as some, he believed there was something tugging at the strings of fate and it only added on to the thrill of leaving things to chance. An element of which he didn't understand nor grasp onto...yet he didn't mind at all...
Not exactly something he'd run his mouth about to just anybody...but mmmmeh, whatever...!
Though man, he sure was starting to question some shit about himself that he couldn't explain or put his finger on...yet he didn't bother dwelling on it too much. Like damn, it would probably drive him to devolving into some sort of mad scientist if he was trying to scientifically explain to himself is my quirk changing and why the hell does it work this way! So of course he threw those thoughts off into the mental incinerator and left it to the gods or fate itself to sort out. At least working with tech was coming to him more naturally, then again, it could just be he'd been learning and growing as a person too. Whatever the case...today wasn't about him.
Nah...
It was all about getting a fitting gift for a friend recovering from a fucking shit storm.
Entering the shop as he looked around, he tipped his hat up and looked around...which...huh...at first glance it seemed puh-retty frrrrrreakin' normal. It looked like it was an occult store...but...not at the same time? Maybe they were hiding it since not everyone was cool with the occult or whatever...welp...he sure as hell didn't have all day, he was sure the shop keep didn't either. Sliding his hands into his pockets with a smirk, he spoke up just casual and calm as could be... "Ey, nice lookin' joint ya got here...got any fancy tarot decks or somethin' 'long those lines?" Compliments and cutting to the chase...badda bing, badda boom!

The shop had actually two doors and you needed to know about the occult store, it was either customers that asked him and he had informed them or it was people that came before for the herbs and now entered through there. He used two different sorts of bells so he would immediately be warned if someone entered the occult store even if the curtains were closed and he was in the bookstore. It was an interesting and handy little system he thought about. Sometimes he was very adventures with finding out ways to make it easier for the one-man show that ran the bookstore. The Occult store wasn't exactly hidden but the purple curtains were there to not bring the noisy not interested customers there and to hide the customers that did not want to be seen and so on, but if you would ask if there was more in the back, Mamoru wouldn't tell no to you. Today was a little better, people had been shopping, there was a mother with her small child looking at the manga books and again he was thankful that he talked to Beaumont about it and he just wondered what more he could do to make the store better.
It wasn't every day though that someone showed up that he never seen. He was sure he would remember this metal man if he had seen him before and thus he rose his eyebrows in curiosity and wondering by the Gods what happened to this man. "What a guy, what a guy!" He turned his attention with closed eyes before staring into the nothing for his customers full at Karasu... shut... up. The blond turned his attention back to the new customer who walked over to him. Asking for tarot cards and a small smile appeared on Mamoru's face, at least someone who was straight up about what he wanted and he pointed at the purple curtains. He did not have official tarot cards here, some joke games that were made with it, which annoyed the crap out of him but he sold it to gain money not because he wanted to offend any God or something. "I have tarot cards in the back." He looked shortly at the other customer with the child before turning away from the registration desk and moved one of the curtain halves to the side so the new customer could pass through it and see the cabinets that were there. They reached a hip height and either had books behind glass doors or had attires in there, on top of every cabinet was a sort of little market look. Either the gems or the necklaces, tarot decks and every other small need for your occult need. There were wands and daggers, incense and so on. The herbs were behind the much smaller cash register desk that was there and hung upside down to dry still. "Any specific deck you are looking for?" He asked the man while joining him, he could hear the woman ring the bell in case she wanted to buy something or hear the bell of the door if she would leave or someone new would enter. He could be here for a bit.

God he felt like he had a pair of flash lights rammed into his eye sockets since day freeeeaaaakin' one! Ah, whatever...at least it didn't screw with his actual vision or some crap so that was cool with him. Turning his attention for a moment to look toward the kiddo who seemed really happy about the manga. Weird flex on having that as part of the selection...but then again, smart since ya gotta appeal to all sorts for those sweet, sweet sales...right? Duh, even he went out of his comfort bubble to advance the horizons of his target market and make additional sales.
The costs were high, so he was always breaking even which sucked so the profit margin was pretty low, but you know what? He had Narcissa at his corner, so money wasn't an issue as was having at least one loyal human on his side so eh...it wasn't all bad. Just sometimes, he liked to bitch about things in his head for a moment before moving along with his thoughts! Like the fact that it seemed like his hunch was right and behold...the man sold tarot cards! Not the jokey ham-a-lam stuff in plain sight, so it was honestly a relief and hella good surprise when he followed the blonde guy who was definitely easy on the eyes, especially with that smile.
HM...the type of deck though...
"...ya know what? That's a great question...truth be told, I'm gettin' this as a surprise for a friend'ah mine...she's real deep ino this stuff...an'...geeze I should'ah thought this through better... Even though he was a little frustrated with himself for screwing up on not realizing they had different types of tarot decks and cards, his tone remained pretty relaxed for the most part. Less mad and more a low key kicking himself...then again, he wanted this to be a nice surprise and not give it away be trying to ask her. "...actually, listen, I'mma take a chance on ya and yer judgement, soooo...how 'bout it...ya go with yer gut and I'll buy what'cha pick, price don't matter...if my pal likes it, I'll come back an' buy somethin' else. Sound like a good bet to ya?"
A playful little gamble...no harm out of it, but he couldn't help but grin at the notion of coming back...hell, would probably pay the guy for some fortune telling if it all worked out!

Actually, it would be quite normal for Mamoru to be annoyed by people who thought it would be fun to buy occult for whatever reason. He had a bit of hope in lack of a better feeling or word that this man was someone like that. It be nice to have new customers but this man did not know at all. But then again Mamoru's tense shoulders softened a bit and he brushed a strain of his blond hair out of his face and behind his ear while looking at the tarot cards on the shelf. Hm, well it was really kind to buy a tarot deck for your friend, he had to admit that. There was just a slight problem with the plan and he did not want to ruin it for the customer nor for himself; he was an entrepreneur right, he had to get the money and have trust in people that they were doing something right.
Buying a tarot deck was only very personal. His, for example, the one hidden in his suits, blouses, pockets and so on, had smudges of his blood on it. A tarot deck had to like you and had to inspire you, that still meant you could buy it online but it shouldn't be touched by anyone else, which was the reason why he didn't like it when people touched the decks to check and he made print outs of the ones he had. But still, he could explain that to his customer, he seemed to be open-minded enough?
Mamoru did not notice he had been thinking, not speaking and he heard Karasu and felt him actually hop on his shoulder. Right he had to talk, "Actually it is always very nice to give a tarot set, the problem is that tarot sets are very personal, they have to ehm... like you? The cards that is." Seriously he was feeling like an idiot; how to push a new customer away in a matter of 3 words, okay 4. He didn't want to do the bet only to get something out of it himself, he really wanted to now try to pick the right cards. "Well I wouldn't mind taking a gander, so tell me in that case what your friend likes?" Maybe the Gods would inform him which deck to buy. So with that, he would also get a glove, so he wouldn't touch the deck himself and he would listen to his customer's explanation.

"Makes sense..." That's all he could muster as though stating a stone cold fact for a moment as he thought about how some of the games that went to shit really went down the crapper. Whereas the ones that went well really went well...kinda like the cards either love ya or hate ya...kinda funny how your gut gets confirmed in a bookstore, of all freakin' places. This was gonna be tough because goddamn, he really didn't want to bring Narcissa along and try to help her pick the perfect deck...it felt like the kinda vibe couples looking for a wedding ring might go through. That's how personal this seemed. They were close but not like that...she was more along the lines of being like the sister he could have used in his life or something like that...you know, the kind of family that was actually worth defending and going to arms for? Yeah, like that.
Crossing his arms and idly tapping at his elbow...he really thought about it cause shit, he knew her but did he know her well enough to do good on picking something that really fit her....?
"...she's a classy broad, loves flowers, likes a good challenge with high stakes rewards n' ain't about taking an easy route if the reward's crap...ehhhh...dresses with pockets, damn good margaritas n' some Spanish Spice." The last part merited a playful snicker from the metallic man as a smirk played across his lips, "Heh...Spanish Spice, bad for her health n' doesn't know how tah get it outta her diet without gettin' sick..." Frankly...he had no idea whether he completely approved of the guy or not...but eh, he helped when he fuckin' couldn't so that gave the guy some kudos at least.

It wasn't going badly, that was a surprise. For a new customer, this guy was more open-minded then Mamoru had guessed. Which was a good thing, for sure. He did not seem to be all too surprised about the information that the cards pick you so to say but he also seemed to be a bit hesitant. Maybe that had more to do with the fact it might ruin his surprise. Only already for that sake did Mamoru want to try, but then again he did not want to disappoint. Hm, how to make sure that was going well. He looked at the man and asked what the person he wanted to buy the deck for would like or what was she like?
As the newcomer crossed his arms and started to think, it gave Mamoru the time to check him out. It was an interesting way of living like a metal man, still quite handsome if you looked at the features, the way he was dressed said a lot as well. Hmm, he listened though, crossing his arms as well and looking at the deck. Classy and yet flowers, it still cut off the most colourful decks he had, did not sound like her. He looked at the classic deck which had the basic colours of white and red, that might work but maybe the remade classic deck where the art was just a little bit better if she liked pretty things like flowers, but it was in black and white.
Mamoru's eyes switched from the cards in front of him to the man as he snickered, Spanish spice? He had no idea what that meant and he was an expert in herbs so it frustrated him a little. "Ehm, so one that likes challenges and in general knows what's good for her, would you say she has a favourite colour?" If Kozue would know that it was white, Mamoru would hold up the pictures of the Light Visions deck, which were black and white cards but still with the drawings of the original and classic deck. It was his best guess for the woman that his customer mentioned. "Then I guess something like this?"

A favorite color...
The clothes she normally wore were white, but that was because it worked so easily and well with her quirk...wasn't it? Kozue found himself working on giving her options in making it so that the woman would have more options outside of pastel...but she didn't seem to mind white. In a way, it was like her stable...and the fact that she picked two flowers connected to her alias that had white prominently...this seemed like a proper pattern. There was even a flower called Thalia Daffodil Narcissus, if you asked him, he'd say Narcissus was pretty damn close to Narcissa.
So in his head...
Narcissa either really liked that particular daffodil and took its name to an extent with a few twists...or...it was a coincidence and she saw something she could love about that flower tied to herself and embraced it. It was strange to think that this pretty boy over here was the one who got him to really think about the connection, like hiding in plain sight. Even the Dutch Master Daffodil had bits of white here and there, albeit yellow was the more common of the colors, it seemed... "White's a color she always sticks to..." Which made sense the more he thought about it...
Shopping over at the Eclipsian Florists caused him to be pretty interested in flowers here and there to be honest, Narcissa was only further fanning the flames with that since she seemed to hold flowers as a whole so near and dear to her heart. When he looked at the deck, avoiding making contact since this guy was emphasizing the importance of how the cards should like who they're going to and that meant as few hands as possible should go on them. Hell, call him nuts, but he figured this was his store and all these cards were on neutral turf with some sort of unspoken agreement to go to the right place when possible. After all, he, himself, was the kinda guy who didn't buy himself a deck of playing cards unless it felt right when he held it himself.
"...I'd be lyin' if I didn't say that was impressive." That would have merited a round of applause from the guy who looked more like a robot and less like a person, but they were in a bookstore, ya know? So he uncrossed his arms and slid his hands into his pockets. Part of him was thinking hell, maybe try again in trying to actually network and make more social connections...but the only successful venture he had was Narcissa. Folks didn't stay outside of her...eh...maybe that zombie guy too, what's-his-face...Orange...er...Kitsu. "Welp, looks like ya got yourself a sale, I'll take it."
So instead, he told himself he'd work on making this guy into a contact of some kind, only if he returned since he liked the gamble with fate and see if he was meant to come back. That, or this was a one-off encounter and a pretty face like that would become just another drop in the sea. If the guy over here wanted to take him over to the counter and wrap up the sale, he'd follow him along, pretty much that blonde was in control of the situation with the deck in his favor. Whether he wanted to move on to the next customer or make the effort at another sale or something, he had the hand of cards and the house would be in his favor, so to speak.

Maybe he wasn't a good store owner. He always let his customers wander around and look for themselves, only when they came to him or looked utterly lost because that was a sign but there were just little notes everywhere that suppose to help people. Like which section was where, what to find and so on, a little map that he put near the entrance because he remembered always coming into a bookstore and having no idea what section was at what spot of the shop, luckily his store wasn't that big. But also he was maybe a bad store owner because he did not push for people to buy anything, he wasn't going to put up his charm and try to convince them, should he try that now?
He was actually a bit flattered that this man told him that it was impressive what he had done. Surely he knew every deck and so on, but that made it not less personal and difficult. He did have a good feeling about this deck, if he had one with flowers, he might have picked that one but he wasn't aware of the existence. "There is of course still a chance she doesn't like it, but I hope she does." He meant that, which was obvious to see on his face, with his small smile. He did notice how Karasu stared at the metal man and it annoyed him, why were spirits so annoying? It costed him a lot of energy not to react to the spirit while the metal man was paying. Mamoru put the new tarot deck in a little plastic sleeve so to say, "I assume wrapping paper?" He offered and would see if he had some of that with flowers maybe, he had some paperbrown with red roses on it, he would take that and would quickly and yet elegantly wrap the little box.
When finished he would give it to Kozue, it could be touched now, though it would be best not for too long but the wrapping paper helped, as well as the plastic. "Anything else you are looking for?" It felt like way too much of an open question, but it was interesting to talk to this man, it was flattering even and Mamoru did not mind, he had not heard a bell yet so the other customers were either still there or he was going deaf.

You know that weird feeling that someone was just kinda staring at you and whenever you looked in that direction, it didn't seem like they were actually looking at you? Or like someone wasn't there at all, but it felt like something was definitely gawking and it was either there or still there? Yeeeeeaaaaaah, that was a pretty common feeling for the metallic man, so he was shrugging it off since you know what? Let em' stare, they can enjoy what they see if they want, haaaah! Though for a second there, the blonde's words threw him for a little detour in thought valley that the guy mentioned how he hoped she'd like the tarot deck...even if there was a chance that she wouldn't.
"Won't know 'till the wheel'a fate lands when we get there, but you'll know when it does...heh..." Closing his eyes for a moment with a thoughtful smile since...ya know what? This guy seemed to be a little more than just getting more sales...but also about it going well and people liking the product they've paid for. That was respectable...a lot like that florist who put a lot of heart into her business, this wasn't much different. Save for the fact he didn't seem to be immediately chasing him off soon after paying, then again, there weren't any grumpy ladies behind him right now.
Opening his eyes once more as he heard the man make a correct assumption about wrapping paper, he couldn't help but snicker for a moment, "Mmmhmm, got it right on the money again, add it to my tab... Snapping his fingers with a wink and quick draw of finger guns before fishing up is wallet. He'd begun to take out the right amount of yen to pay for his purchase and couldn't help but hear the final question which...was he asking about books or just a real casual question? Oh geeze, he couldn't resist the little window of opportunity just for the sake of seeing what kinda reaction he'd get... "A date, maybe, but that's all for another time and day, ya know what I mean?"
The way he said it was incredibly casual, like there wasn't any extra emphasis on anything, sort of like it rolled off the tongue naturally as though he was talking to an old friend. Smoooooooooth, yeah boy, got em'! Or not, part of him was expecting a bit of a snippy snappy retort or something..whiiiiiiich if he offended him, welp! He'd cross that bridge when it got there.

He couldn't help but let out a snicker when the man said the wheel of fate lands, the thing was obviously that could be considered a tarot card joke, as there was a wheel of fortune. He just found it a funny comment, he personally believed in such things. Thinking about how things were handled and what the world had been hiding for them only to give as a surprise. This could be positive or negative and it was nice to hear it from other people as well. That's why he ran an occult shop, running into people who thought like him. He wondered if this man would be more interested in looking through the shop, learn more about it but maybe he shouldn't push his luck. He liked how the man felt natural in this store, where everything including the both of them was unnatural. Karasu hopped from his right shoulder to his left and still seemed to be intrigued by the metal man. Luckily for Mamoru, he kept his beak shut so he did not have to answer or actually ignore on of the two, which would be something he hated.
He shook his head with a smile at the finger gun sign that the man made, "Wrapping is free." He said casually and would just as casual yet elegant wrap the little box and put it in front of the desk to give it to Kozue. But his next question wasn't about the occult shop, it seemed to be the wheel of fortune was running around and doing that little surprise he did not see coming. He had just pushed the deck forward and looked up at the man, blinking in surprise if he had heard that correctly. Look at that opportunity! But he wished he could snap that beak shut and just looked at the man, "Definitely sounds like something for another time." Did that sound horrible, it sounded like him saying no but the man was interesting and Mamoru definitely wasn't sure if a date was a bit overbearing but what else would you call it, a meeting to get to know each other? "But in that case, can I learn your name?" Now it sounded better right? God he had not even thought about trying to date or anything else since Sohma rejected him. He was a disaster, why did you think this man owned a bookstore. Books did not talk back when he said something stupid.

When you feel like something is just gawking at you, but you have no idea where the hell it is yet you think you do but you're not completely sure? That weird dejavu feeling that's so strong that you can't help but try to sort it out and...shit was it on his shoulder? But nothing was there...nothing except...wait...was that a thread on his shoulder? A loose thread...leaning in and squinting at it for a moment, it...was the only thing there and was it bugging him cause he was so into fashion and making things look perfect?! In a way, he was kind of spaced out as he borderline muttered under his breath, "Free, eh...? Nice..."
Yeah it was nice, nice like this guy's face if ya know what he means, but this weird thread just huh..something about it didn't seem normal...it was just his ocd kicking in...it freakin' had to be. Ffff..whatever, you win this round, random little thread! He let out a huff, almost akin to a hint of defeat and adjusted his posture to stand upright and...wait what? Snapping his attention immediately back to the blonde, he...took it seriously? Of course, he, himself...was totally serious about it but UHHHHH he wasn't expecting that to be the answer! Oh shit, someone actually didn't turn him down, even asked for his name. Wow, holy shit toast...okay...either the gods were fucking with him or this was legit.
Clearing his throat and quickly recomposing himself, he fished through his wallet... "Do ya one better..." Whipping out his business card then somehow with a strange level of class and a dash of sassy elegance, he flicked the card on the counter. "...boom, my card. Hit me up some time an' I'll see ya on the other side..." Putting his wallet away he took his wrapped up purchase away like a smooth operator and sauntered on out, awwww yeah! Got eeeeeeeem' coach!

Mamoru couldn't believe his ears, he just had thought it was going all awkward in the end. At first, he thought this was a man who knew the occult and was interested and after that, he realized he had maybe said too much about the spiritual parts of the world that some people did not want to believe in. Japan was surely open-minded enough but it was not that Japan had no foreigners or people who would rather not learn about it. Just buying tarot cards for a friend was a very honourable thing to do and nice and yet quite difficult and maybe he had ruined it now. Though it had gone okay, he knew Karasu had not liked it and was staring at the metal man customer but it was only more awkward when the blond looked up and Kozue was so close by him and Karasu that the creature gawked in his ear and hopped away again on the desk and further away from the duo. Mamoru swallowed because when he had looked up the man stood so close to him that he did not even dare to breathe in or out, god he was an awkward person and he hated it right here and right now.
Though Mamoru managed in this state to still answer the question or taunting, teasing, whatever you wanted to call it with quite a serious answer. He assumed though that his answer was wrong, everything Mamo said was wrong so the bookkeeper would just think that it was okay to see how it would go if he asked for the customer's name, that would make it less awkward and more open-minded right? That he was open to the idea of dating or well, that was maybe a step too far already but the idea of seeing him outside the store and ask more about who this man was. So the occult or spiritual talk had not scared him off? He got the card, quite quickly took it from the register desk and looked at it before he said goodbye to him, to Kozue, that was his name. But now he had to call him? Or text him? So many questions and he wasn't sure where to start or when, maybe look at his agenda and see when he had time, ask when Hifumi did not need him, yes... or just be an adult man and decide whenever he could all by himself.
