feel the light shining in the dark of the night | Toma snapped shut his laptop and gave himself a good once over as he stood up. He had been in his pajamas for a week now. An old pair of track pants and a beaten-up Story of Zorldo shirt had made for some nice comfort for the time, but now he was going to have guests. Not just any guest mind you, Kenshin was one of his old Storm Knight buddies.
After a quick shower, he threw on a pair of jeans and a plain white T-shirt. Not much of an upgrade but at least they didn't have coffee stains. He also spent a few minutes tidying up his two-room apartment to the best of his ability. He managed to gather half a bag worth of beer cans as he headed out the door.
With the keys in the ignition of his sedan, he was ready to roll. Kenshin had asked to meet up and hang out so Toma was going to pick him up at a local park. It wasn't very far from his place so he sat in a parking lot jamming old rock tunes while he waited.
The idea of meeting back up with Kenshin was both scary and exciting. They had gotten along well enough as part of the old gang, but that was all he knew about the young man. Too bad he wasn't old enough to drink. Toma missed having a few beers with G and playing dumb games.

It had been quite a while. A while since Kenshin had talked to the former Storm Knight and former pro-hero. Not that the boy had a problem with either. Sure, he could completely understand why G disliked the guy. But Kenshin wasn't G. Not that he was completely fine with Sunhawk leaving the very group he helped found, but it just didn't bother Kenshin as much. Perhaps the boy was just a tad bit naive, maybe even a tad bit too forgiving? But in his eyes, heroes and vigilantes ultimately walked towards the same destination, even if they walked on separate roads. That was why Sunhawk becoming Vega didn't really lower Kenshin's opinion of the guy.
Which was part of the reason Kenshin agreed to meet up with him. However, there was more to it than just reminiscing about old times. Given recent events, the boy found himself willing to use anything as a distraction. A shame his parents (especially his mother) were severely strict and would not let him even think about drinking. He was already walking a fine line with them considering what happened. Not that he could blame them for worrying about him.
Kenshin put on his usual black jacket, dark blue pants, and black shoes. But to anyone who knew him well, Kenshin wearing black gloves was new. The boy usually didn't wear gloves unless he was also wearing the rest of his vigilante outfit. Considering what had happened to him, Kenshin now found himself wearing gloves far more often. He still did not like to talk about it, and whenever anyone did notice, he would try his best to deflect any questions on why he suddenly seemed interested in hiding his hands.
But enough of that. Kenshin did not want to dwell on the past. There was a reason he accepted nearly any form of distraction he could. Not wanting to waste time, Kenshin just headed over to where he would meet up with the guy. He would not end up waiting very long, as by the time he had arrived, Toma was already there. Kenshin greeted him with a short hand wave and an honestly poor attempt at a smile. Though to be fair, this was practically how Kenshin greeted almost everyone. The boy was not exactly the most social person out there.
"It's been a while, Sunhawk. How's it going?" The boy looked forward to forgetting about the troubles that plagued his mind, even if only for a moment.

feel the light shining in the dark of the night | "I've been worse." He wasn't lying. He had been in worse shape before. Not that things were really going great for him now or anything. "It's Toma by the way. We can drop the Hero names. I'm retired now, or at the least on hiatus."
"Hop in." He clicked to unlock the passenger door from his steering wheel and gestured over to the empty seat. "We'll head back to my place and chill. We got a lot of catching up to do."
While he gave Kenshin a moment to get in he turned the radio. Inadvertently he stumbled upon a realization. He actually didn't know anything about Kenshin. Outside of being Red Edge, he didn't know a damn thing. He didn't even know what kind of music he liked, let alone what they would do other than talk when he got back to his place. This also made him realize he hadn't had company over since the last time he saw G. Hopefully this would go much better than that.
"Oh. And feel free to pick some music or whatever. I'm down with anything really myself." That wasn't really true. He was actually very opinionated when it came to music, but he wouldn't be rude about it.
