Of course the introverted spider-headed girl was going to feel nervous. Why wouldn't she? Sure, Kumoko had dealt with far more scary things. This was just a mock interview. What was there to worry about? Though she did her best to calm herself, Kumoko could not quite shake off her nerves. Oh gosh, why did I sign up for this? I'm gonna mess up and embarrass myself in front of everyone! The poor spider girl was far too shy for things like this. She was not used to being thrust out into the spotlight.
However, this was precisely why she had signed up for this in the first place. Kumoko could not shy away from any possible social interaction forever, nor did she want to. She wanted to be able to talk in front of a camera and not be a stuttering mess. She really did want to shake off her nervousness and overcome her fear. And this was a good way to start. Okay, just take a deep breath. Calm down. I can do this. The girl mentally repeated this over and over. Maybe with enough of this, it might actually work. Perhaps it was just wishful thinking, however. Either way, Kumoko did everything she could to prepare for this interview, as though it were the real deal.
Seeing as this was meant to simulate an actual televised interview, Kumoko arrived wearing her professional attire. A white dress shirt with a black blazer over it, a black skirt, black shoes (she considered heels, but considering her notorious clumsiness, probably not the best idea), and even her square glasses (with a strap to keep it on her head, seeing as the spider girl lacked human ears). And yes, the glasses had multiple lenses for Kumoko's multiple eyes. With how she was dressed, one might assume Kumoko was trying to overprepare a bit for a job interview. But in her mind, Kumoko kept wondering if she didn't look professional enough.
Doing her best to keep herself as calm and composed as possible without giving away the fact that she was still very nervous, Kumoko looked at her partner with a smile. She bowed as she introduced herself. "Hello. My name is Kumoko Joro, and I am pleased to join you for this interview." After the introductions, Kumoko allowed the boy to take his seat before she took hers. "I hope you don't mind, but I wish to start this off as the interviewer." The reason the spider girl wished to be the first to ask the questions was to get a feel for what to expect and how to react once it was her turn to answer questions.
"Now then, let us begin this interview." A brief pause as Kumoko pondered which question to pick. It would not take very long, however, and Kumoko did her best to try and maintain eye contact as she spoke. In addition, she did her best to speak in an enthusiastic yet professional tone. After all, there was a teacher's assistant overseeing this interview, so best to try and make as few mistakes as possible (preferably none, though that was quite the tall order). "First question: What are you looking forward to most as a hero in training?" Kumoko smiled, curious to see how her partner would answer that one.

[attr="class","pwficon"] [attr="class","pwficonbg"] [attr="class","pwfbody"] Interview day! Boy this semester was already chokablocked filled with the hero esque classes both mandated and extra circular. And who else would be behind it but Emi! Or well she was apart of it like a lot of other students from the other classes. All things considered, Cid found himself well in over his head with the whole thing. Seemingly the boy hadn't quite grasped what it meant to be a hero and all these other classes were quite a large step for him. To the point where he asked his uncle for some advice on how to go about this class. Back home interviews were scarce and far between. Usually it was all the new guys who'd need to interview and a legacy like himself with loads of well known family wouldn't need to bother with such formalities. But now since he was in a foreign land without those luxuries he needed to adapt and who better to ask about being a well mannered professional looking individual than his uncle who never seemed to take off his suit, even at home. [break][break] Nerves were to be expected for this kind of thing and even trying to prepare some answers for himself didn't exactly end well. His new set of clothes helped him feel a bit at ease knowing he was at least looking dapper but at the same time they were alien to him and would need to be broken in or so he thought. The choice of clothes was actually a very well made three piece suit, and muscle fit white shirt, fancy brown shoes that clacked on every surface they touched which was complimented with a little dicky bow, tying everything together. It didn't stay that way for long though. With every moment passing, Cid felt his body getting warmer and warmer. Before he knew it, the Aussie had his jacket off, sleeves rolled up and somewhere along the way his bow tie had come loose and now lay across his neck. But alas! There was no time to fix his ensemble as he had to be seated for his interview. [break][break] Oh my.... Once Cid had taken his seat, he felt his soul leave his body for a moment as the girl before him took her seat after him. One would assume that someone from the Outback would be used to Giant arachnids, but you'd be wrong. It probably didn't help matters that this one was growing out of the head of a normal person. She even had a set of her own glasses for her many beady eyes! Cid tried to contain a shudder as Kumoko spoke. She sounded polite and mannerly but not even that could distract him from her head, his eyes remaining fixed on it. "Nice to meet you too, I'm Cid Tsuchiya-Williams. Oh and you look very nice for the interview." he said after clearing his throat and now taking the time to look the girl in the eyes, hoping his manners would help cover up the fact that he was blatantly staring at her quirk for a minute. "By all means, ladies first!" He said, giving a nervous chuckle afterward for a multitude of reasons. [break][break] The first question was a standard one, delivered with genuine interest and enthusiasm which served to lighten Cid's mood considerably. He was still really nervous and a little on the nose about being uncomfortable around Kumoko but better all the same. "Good question!" Compliments first so she doesn't think you're too big of an ass for staring! "I'm really looking forward to all the new experiences Heroes have. Like even these interviews are a whole new prospect for me that I never really had thought about doing before, let alone some of the other things like public speaking or quirk training. He replied, speaking with a friendly smile and giving a casual tone despite still looking rather stiff and awkward. It's all so interesting. I'd like to say I look forward to putting my quirk in action to save lives but at the same time I don't want it to always have to come to that. Hope that doesn't sound too political or anything but in all honesty, I'm kind of more interested in what makes a hero and what would need to be done to become a good one, so I can become a good one in the future." Hoping that answered the question he sat there in silence for the next.

Post by Emi Ryoko Tachibana on Oct 1, 2020 18:56:51 GMT -4

It had taken a few years, but Emi Ryoko Tachibana was finally able to claim that she definitely wasn’t a racist. Probably. Half a decade again, the young quirker had barely been raised to accept herself as normal, let alone the more pronounced mutations amongst them. She’d come a long way from the girl that shied away from their insectoid teacher. Heck, one of her best friends was a mutant![break][break]
And yet, she couldn’t help but feel that fate was testing her with Kumoko.[break][break] Anybody else in the school would have been fine. She barely batted an eye at a girl who could be dwarfed by a dwarf, or the oversized crustacean in Support Studies. It just so happened that one half of her interview was with a girl that resembled a creature only otherwise seen in Emi’s nightmares. She’d done a good job of keeping her distance from both her and Army of One for years, but her luck was bound to run out eventually-[break][break]
A deep breath drew her back to reality. The session was for the students, not for her to steal the spotlight with a mild case of arachnophobia. As long as she remembered that the girl before her was only eighty percent spider-[break][break]
No, that wasn’t going to cut it. She diverted her gaze to the more familiar face. There, it became so much easier for her to remember what they were there for. Her golden-eyed gaze made little effort to hide that she was staring, judging, taking in the boy’s choice of attire. The spider was next, albeit more hesitantly. If nothing else, years of familiarity with the camera had taught Emi how to mask her emotions when a performance called for it; the discomfort that rumbled in her stomach wouldn’t show on her face just yet.[break][break]
Instead, the pair would have to judge her on her smile (as arrogant as ever), her clothes, and what quickly became near-constant scribbling into her notepad. A black turtleneck with the sleeves pushed up to her elbows, and a pair of dark jeans. Even if she wasn’t sitting beside a pair of teens ready to walk into a job interview, she would have looked overdressed. She might have felt it, too, if that wasn’t what she was hoping her. For once, she was but a stagehand for their, and she’d chosen clothes that reflected that.[break][break]
And so the pair were allowed to begin their interview without much trouble from her, as long as trouble didn’t include her watching them. She was very good at watching a person for just long enough for them to understand that she was evaluating them, even outside of her new assistant role. “…A few things.” The hesitation, the tapping of the pen against paper… The two could draw their own conclusions on them.[break][break]
“Well done for putting in the effort to come all dolled up. Mostly.” A lidded glance fell on the boy’s bow tie. “If you’re going to go for a formal look, commit to it. These are mixed signals I’m getting here about whether you care or not, and if anybody was watching at home, they’d be confused too. With that said…” Both of them get a quick up and down with her eyes. “Subject to opinion and all, but you might be looking a little too formal. You guys can’t be older than eighteen, right? Could’ve fooled me from your clothes. I won’t knock points off for your choice of clothes-” Though she would for how they sat on their bodies, “but you’re both young, and allowed to show that a little in your clothes. A flash of colour, worn properly, makes all the difference.”[break][break]
The girl’s pause was momentary, giving her the chance to review her notes. “As for the Q-and-A itself… Starting with a compliment is a nice play. Helps butter up the other person, and buys you a few extra seconds to figure out what you want to say. Don’t be afraid to take a few more if you need them, because you gave about four different answers to that question, and none of them were really fleshed out.” Another pause. Her gaze, having gradually shifted to a no-nonsense glare, softened slightly. The do’s and don’ts came naturally to her – it was why she was tutoring them, after all – but expecting them to understand from the word go would guarantee that they all had a bad time. She had enough to worry about without stressing them both out… Until it was time to ask her special question, at least.[break][break]
“If you’re being interviewed, the people listening want to hear the juicy details, right? So give it to them. Try not to throw out anything you’d be embarrassed to find on YouTube the next morning, but it rarely hurts to give a few personal examples. Mention a pro-hero you really like, and what they’ve been doing that you’d really like to try. Tell a story about something you’ve just started learning in class. It’s easier said than done – trust me, I know -, but now’s the best time to practice.”

Kumoko smiled upon hearing Cid's compliment. "Thank you." Seeing how nervous she was and how often she worried about her appearance (and that was before factoring in her spider head), it was always relieving to hear someone tell her she looks nice. The girl just hoped that the others weren't too put off by her frightening mutation. Not that she could ever blame them if they were. It was understandable, after all. The best the girl could do was try her best to be as pleasant as possible. The more she could do to make herself seem less scary, the better.
But on to the interview itself, as that was the main focus right now. Kumoko listened to Cid's answer. It was a good answer in her eyes, though of course she was curious to see what Emi's thoughts were. So she listened to her senpai's words. And ...oh. Well Emi certainly did bring up some fair points. "Ah, I'm sorry. I was worried about not dressing formally enough, but I've gone overboard instead. I will keep this in mind for the future. Thank you." Kumoko bowed politely. She then briefly began thinking of what colors to wear for next time. Maybe some more pink? Can't go wrong with that, right?
Though most of Emi's advice seemed to be directed more at Cid, Kumoko could still take mental notes on what to do and not do. Okay, so compliments are good. And now the spider girl felt bad for not complimenting Cid back. Though to be fair, she refrained from doing so in fear of coming off as awkward or giving off hollow and needless flattery. I really need to stop second-guessing myself all the time. It would be hard, but that's what this was all for. To learn and improve.
After listening to Emi and letting her finish speaking without interruption, it was time to resume the interview and ask the next question. "Alright Cid." Kumoko paused for a brief moment, as though pondering which question to ask. In reality, however, she was wondering if she was speaking to the guy too casually. Should she be more formal? Was she not being formal enough? It was probably best not to think too hard about it. If she messed up somewhere, then Emi would correct her. No need to worry so much.
Just like last time, Kumoko spoke in a cheery and enthusiastic, yet professional tone. No need to sound too excited and casual, yet there was also no need to talk in a boring and monotonous voice. "For the next question, I would like to hear your thoughts on your classmates. Do you get along well with them?" Trying her best not to worry about whether the questions she asked were interesting, Kumoko eagerly listened to Cid's response.
