The mock set had a nice feel to it. The fact that it almost made Momoko feel like she was about to have an actual interview made her a little giddy, though she wouldn't admit it. "Someday..."Momoko did have her own outfit design for the day of her first real interview, sprung forth by an accomplishment that'd deserve nothing less than the most elegant of underlines, but it was something that she wouldn't show to anyone a moment before. In this sense she couldn't fully comply with Orlov's instructions. But it did not stop her from picking something else that was still nice, formal and mature from her extensive wardrobe. The small girl was wearing an off-black waistcoat, underneath which she wore a lavender dress shirt. Beneath the waist she wore similarly off-black dress pants; while she would have preferred a skirt, she had to compromise as she would have to be able to move. The black shoes were also formal, but not especially stylistic. They, alongside Momoko's own wireless microphone, formed the parts of the outfit that had had to cave in for the sake of practicality. They marked her not only as the one being interviewed, but also as the one who'd interview. Speaking of which: The two were facing each other in a rather in a rather unorthodox manner. While Momoko's partner had a full-sized chair, her significantly smaller one was placed on top of a sufficiently tall small table. The two would be somewhat on the eye level with each other due to this arrangement. She had seen the dragon boy around in the school before, but they hadn't actually met so Momoko knew very little about him. His teeth looked just as sharp as she had remembered. She obviously wouldn't try to go for a handshake, but would give her long-running replacement of exaggerated waving instead. "Greetings, Orion-kun! I am Mozuku Momoko from 3-S, and I shall be your interview partner today. Nice to meet you!"
She'd only let him get as far as his similar introduction before continuing. "As your senior, I think it's best that I'll start us off. Please prepare yourself!"
Momoko reached into her pocket and took out her phone and stylus. Paper was both archaic and very awkward for Momoko to handle, and as such she had asked for a permission to do the evaluation part electronically beforehand. The school had accommodated for it, like it always did. She opted not to take a seat on her chair, but instead decided to do her interview portion standing. It felt more natural to her. After quickly getting the correct file onto her screen, her gaze shifted back to Orion. She cleared her throat, and began: "So, Orion-san. Forgive my assumption, but I take it that you're not from Japan. What made you come here?"
The small girl's voice dropped significantly in its levels of energy as she begun the interview proper. She could only hope that the contrast came across as trying to be professional. This was the only question she had put a lock on beforehand, as it was something that she genuinely wondered herself. What was it that made all these foreigners so eager to come here?

Jack didn't know why he felt as anxious as he did. After all that he had been through in the last month alone, he would have assumed that something like this would be a piece of cake to an extent. It was just answering and asking questions, after all. However, despite it all, the dragon boy found his mouth to be surprisingly dry for once. Hopefully it wasn't too hot on set - considering that he couldn't sweat, his anxiety might hurt him more than usual here. He mentally chided himself, reminding himself that this was likely going to be something he has to do a lot in the future to begin with - whether it be as a hero or as a model like he's aspiring to be.
With this in mind, Jack took a deep breath as he would make his way onto the set, where his senpai Momoko was waiting for him. Of course, he knew of her well enough, at least from what Chimera had spoken of her in the past. As odd as it sounded, though, he didn't see her, or really very few Third Years save maybe Tetsuko as his upperclassmen. Maybe it was just the fact that he was in their grade for a fair amount of time, or maybe it was more of his nature to be kind to everyone, no matter their ranking. Either way, he tried to bear in mind to at the very least be respectful, since she was likely the first one to start asking the questions.
He took a seat across from the smaller student, sharing the excited waving a bit with a warm smile. "Hola, Ms. Mozuku! It's a pleasure to properly meet you at last! I'm Jack Orion, of 2-A. I can't wait to get started!" he replied happily, his tail thumping on the ground and his horns turning a bright azure hue. He went a little old-school with his clothing of choice - wearing his old fur-rimmed hoodie, black jeans and red shirt. It was probably the least flashy and nicest thing he had, and it was comfortable.
With that, Momoko would start off their interview. As she would correctly point out, Jack was by no means from Japan. She touched upon this further by asking the dragon boy what made him come to Japan to begin with. He smiled warmly at the question, though there was also a sly glint in his eye, noting that the question was a surprisingly deep on to start for him. "I mean, I would assume I'm not Japanese, heh! I have heritage both from Mexico and Italy, though I was raised in the U.S. for the most part," he explained, mostly using that little tidbit as extra time to get his thoughts together for the actual question.
"As for why I'm here...well, the simplest answer to that is I want to help people, but to me there's so much more to it than just that," he explained, crossing one leg over the other and leaning forward just a bit, his hands clasped. He took a deep breath, though he still had on his rather genuine warm smile. It was a lightly uncomfortable thing to remember for him, especially right now, and it did show in his eyes. "Growing up, er...much like many other Quirkers in the world, people didn't like me much. Texas is a really religious state nowadays, especially once Quirks started popping up. Many people saw me as...well, el Diablo. The Devil."
He would let that little statement sit for a second, closing his eyes and reopening them as he recalled everything. "Because of that, I lived a lot of my life in seclusion. There's still a lot I'm learning, even now. When I heard about U.A., all the way in the East, well...even my parents agreed that it may be a place that was good for me. A chance at freedom that I never had before, and a chance to use my abilities to help people, even if it's destructive by nature. I took a little bit to at least make sure my control was mostly on point, but soon enough I was well on my way here. It's been...an experience, to say the least, heheh!" he finished, smiling brightly at the much brighter thoughts of his goals and all of his experiences...before they were quickly muddled by all the traumatic events that had happened since the Riots. His smile faltered for a moment, but at the very least it was still there.

Group two, Momoko and Jack. Mikki hadn’t chosen them at random. Jack was the primary reason he’d decided he wanted to personally oversee their interview. The second year hero had potential. He was striking, talented, and impossible to ignore. He was also naive, callow, and dangerously oversensative. Mikki’s loose oversight had seen improvement over the past year, but today could be a valuable lesson. Especially if he ended up taking the drakeling on as an apprentice.
Meanwhile, Momoko, Jack’s partner, was very easy to overlook. However, Mikki was far fonder of her than some certain other gadgeteers in Tsutsuji Hachi’s class. Momoko was equally gifted as her flashier peers, and, at least in Mikki’s mind, far sharper and more professional. As a support, public relations wasn’t a necessary skill, but he was more than happy to see the young woman step up.
He watched the beginning of their interview with a sharp eye, trying to keep in the background, take notes, and avoid influencing their interactions with his presence. Both students had clearly put some thought into their appearance. He scribbled down some quick notes, giving each a preliminary grade. Momoko was an easy pass--she’d dressed neatly and practically, if not especially inventively. Jack, however, earned a question mark. The fur-lined hoodie and jeans was a bit too casual to be “heroic,” nor was it either a UA uniform, or costume. Despite that, it had been chosen for a reason. Perhaps the student had a justification in mind?
Mikki decided to defer judgement. Perhaps he was harsh, but he would not be unfair.
Not yet, at least.
Momoko’s poise in opening the lesson also earned her a note of respect. Mikki found himself wondering if she’d had experience. From assisting Tsutsuji-san’s class, he hadn’t seen evidence of any public background, but she’d cleared had some sort of practice speaking from a script. If she could take questions as easily as she could deliver them, she’d earn high merits.
Jack’s answer, however, was more of a mixed bag. Mikki frowned, his pen moving quickly, until the students were done.
Then, as he had with Keirsa and Chimera, he cleared his throat, slithering up to the two students with a bright smile on his face.
“Good afternoon, Orion, Mozoku. Glad you could come.” Mikki began, giving a small bow to the two of them. Always begin with politeness before criticism. “Overall..strong intiative, and a good start. And yet, I’d be a poor teacher if I couldn’t give you some pointers.”
“First, I’m curious about your outfit, Orion. The hoodie’s a striking look, but very...casual. Did you have something in mind when selecting it?” Mikki asked, holding up a hand to indicate he had more to say. “Answer before your next question--I don’t want to throw off your flow. However, on the subject of your first question…”
Mikki’s grin widened, a sly glitter in his eyes, and his voice turned a little less warm, more “professional teacher.”
“You started off well, showing a strong presence, and giving insight into your humanity. I think the anecdote about your history in the US was honest, and well said. However, I have more to criticize about what you didn’t say than what you did…”
Mikki tapped his pen on his clipboard, letting that sit a second.
“Your job in a situation like this is not just to talk about yourself. You’re...not trying to impress them or terrify them. You’ve drawn some sympathy, but what the people want to know--especially from an outsider--is what you can offer them. Freedom? That can mean many things. Not all entirely good. You’d have been stronger if you ended with what you can bring to Japan as a hero. After all, I’m sure the Canadian school had openings."
Mikki shrugged, again, letting his words sit, then slithered back.
"Now, carry on."

Momoko listened to his interviewee's answer intently. On paper, there was nothing mindblowing about it, but some details did stick out to her despite of that. "Freedom... huh"
The answer was ultimately more elaborate than she had expected... as well as more relatable. Not for the same reasons, but frankly, it would have been weird if it had been. There was a faint smile that crept up on Momoko's face as Orlov's questioned about the underclassman's outfit. She recognized it and made it vanish a second or too later than she would have wanted. It wasn't out of mockery: rather, singling out Orion was an indirect approval of her own outfit. It would have been impolite all the same. She used this time to mark her own evaluation of Orion's answer down on her phone. It did answer the question, even if it did stumble and ramble a bit. Three seemed appropiate. The teacher's feedback did seem to somewhat line up with her own thinking, but more importantly, his comment opened up a good lead-up to one of the possible questions. Momoko decided to latch onto it right away. Gears turning inside her head like that did significantly increase the amount of energy she put towards the conversation. The hand holding the stylus pointed sharply towards the teacher as Momoko's turn to speak had been given back to her. "Director-san does bring up a good point!"And just as sharply, it swished in the air to point towards Orion. "Orion-san, there are a lot students with strong powers and the desire to help others. Pro-heroes as well. What do you have to add to the hero program that separates you from everyone else?"The small interviewer's hand retreated slowly as she rest her chin on the other. "In other words... what makes you special?"

自由自在 to be free; completely unrestrained. Jack's ear twitched lightly as he could quickly hear slithering coming towards them from the side. He cracked a slight grin as Mr. Orlov would make himself known to the two students. The snaky hero was the reason Jack really decided to take part of this, since it was something that he himself recommended. He didn't know if it was just because it may be an opportunity to just let some things out, or because he wanted to make the young dragon squirm. Knowing his teacher, it could honestly be either or.
The first thing the teacher mentioned was Jack's attire. Not a hero suit, nor a uniform...so why? Jack was about to answer immediately, but Mr. Orlov made it a point to answer the question after he was done with Momoko's next question, as to not throw off his groove. Of course, a simple answer would be that it was just what he was comfortable in, but Jack knew that it was more of a subconscious choice for other reasons. He smirked lightly, but said nothing.
Of course, he would then go on to criticize Jack's answer itself, noting that it was rather vague. He wasn't meant to entirely talk about himself in most interviews, which made sense. That and the idea of freedom could mean many of things. Jack pursed his lips for a moment, considering his words. He wasn't entirely sure that he wanted to share the WHOLE reason, since it did entail a lot. Especially after...RECENT events, it put his whole life in for a spiral of confusion and soul-searching.
Momoko would suddenly speak up, startling the boy out of his thoughts. Yeesh...definitely got some energy there I can respect... he thought, smirking a bit ruefully at being startled. Nonetheless, the older student would ask him something that he had never really thought about before: How was HE special? Jack tilted his head from side to side for a moment, taking a minute to reflect over all the questions.
"Let's start with Mr. Orlov's initial question...why the clothes?" he smirked, glancing over at Mikhail for a moment. "If I'm going to be honest...because frankly, I want people to see me in...a different light, to most. Hero work is hero work, simple as that. If I'm going to be in an interview, then I want people to be comfortable around me as a person. Even with the whole dragon Quirk, I'm still just a person at the end of the day. Even if I'm out there being all scary and the like...I just want people to know that I'm not going to hurt them. Sometimes subtly works, from what I've learned," he said, raising his hands up a little to show he was done.
"As for Momoko's question...how am I special? Well, let's get the obvious out of the way - I have the ability to turn into a dragon. In that regard, unlike most heroes, I have the ability to carry multiples of people out of a dangerous situation all at once. Besides that, I have a natural knack for combat - especially considering my natural instincts with that kind of stuff. Between the brute strength and speed and all that...I'd say I bring a good amount into the rescue and combat situations. Besides that, though..."
He leaned forwards lightly, so that he could look Momoko more easily in the eyes. He took a deep breath, puffing steam out of his nose. "There's a bit of an old saying...'if everyone is special, no one is'. I would say that applies very easily here. Besides what I can do with my Quirk...I'm not special, by any means. I see a person who needs help, be it a student struggling, a civilian in danger, and I do what I do best...and that's helping people how I can. Besides all that...I'm just a person who wants to go forward in life. I have a wonderful girlfriend who I hope to start a family with someday - I have friends, people who care about me, and I'll have a job doing the one thing I love to do most. At the end of the day...does that really make me special?"
With that, he would sit back, crossing one leg over the other, and getting comfortable. Granted, there was more to it than that, but he didn't really want to go into recent events much, considering that he didn't really want to think about all that he and said girlfriend had been through as of late. Hopefully all of the answers that he had provided would be satisfactory, but that all remained to be seen. notes words tag someone
