821 WC This will be fine | Chimera had been more prepared for this interview class than he thought he would be; he definitely was better than he would have been two years ago. Awkward bumbling first-year Chimera had needed a literal trauma to get in front of a camera for the first time, but now? He still didn't like the camera. But at least he could pretend he did! As he sat in one of the chairs set aside in groups of two, facing each other like a talk show host and guest--not quite facing each other, because they had to be facing the "audience", but turned enough to be clearly speaking to one another--he adjusted some of his hair so the curls stayed out of his face. Yes, this was just a lesson, but he knew the teachers (well, teacher and assistants) well enough to know better than to show up looking fresh out of classes. He'd never been bad at personal upkeep but it had not been to the level of his mentor. That madman never looked bad.
Well, physically. He was a bit of a snarky git who picked verbal sparring matches with teens five years younger than him but, hey, Mikhail was pretty.
That would have absolutely distracted him two years ago. Now, not so much.
...did my tastes get worse with age, or did I just grow out of pretty boys?
Eh.
Once the signal was given to start, Chimera glanced down at the girl he'd been assigned to work with. Because this wasn't some randomly assigned lesson, he couldn't blame fate for this pairing. Instead, he could blame the teacher. Kiersa was a sweet girl; timid, stuttering, predisposed to help others. The last of those traits paired well with her quirk, which made her a pretty ideal support student. She even had a small army of roombas thanks to some questionable programing choices on Yojin's part. For a while that had been the most he knew of her--that and that she had a habit of wearing a maid costume around the dorm when she was cleaning up after stray kitchen disasters.
But then they'd been part of two different exhibition matches. The first one had ended with a mutant quirker on her side going ballistic five minutes in and injuring her, and forcing him to play hero instead of the role he was supposed to play in the fight. The second had gone better, right up until the end of it. He was still not entirely sure what had happened. He knew he'd smelled Monty's blood and held back, then after chasing them up the steps, he started to smell it stronger, and after that...he came to being restrained by the hero Red Horn.
It had been an accident, and he knew that. Kiersa hadn't meant to trigger his quirk's biggest downside any more than he meant to have it. But it was also a pretty big wake-up call for him. He'd assumed she wouldn't be so quick to try to use what she saw as a weakness against him, without knowing just how bad it could get. He knew villains might, if they knew, and he steeled himself as best he could when he was on the actual streets. But...it wasn't just while on duty that this could be a danger. He could have really, really hurt them there.
So...why Kiersa had decided to take all the guilt onto herself baffled him. She hadn't known. She didn't want it to happen. Yet she was still bringing him a boxed lunch every day in an attempt to right things. And she was a good cook, don't get me wrong, but he felt awkward accepting them repeatedly when he wasn't sure how the hell he could even explain this to people. To...friends.
What if they got scared away?
If they were that easy to scare, a more reasonable piece of his brain pipped up, Then they probably wouldn't have lasted this long at U.A, now would they?
But I'm not some villain. I'm supposed to be their ally. What if they feel like they can't trust me to have their back, cause they think I'd bite it? What then?
...these should be saved for later. Like with Mosa. Not here.
Chimera drew in a breath, smiled as wide a grin as he could that didn't flash his canines at Kiersa, and extended a paw towards her. "Heya Valkyrie. Let's get this show on the road." He glanced at the clipboard on his lap that he had taped his questions onto, then back at her. He'd picked one that...was probably a little mean, but he felt it was important. At least important to him, and to whatever their friendship was now. "Here's a good one: when did you decide to become a hero support student? What made you choose this path?" .

Kiersa took a few slow breaths as she took her seat, sitting partially opposite of Chimera-senpai. She was a little bit used to a public eye sort of scenario like this, but usually as a backdrop piece rather than being center stage. But she had an idea of how to behave and conduct herself for this lesson... at least she thinks she does. As this was to be done as a sort of talk-show news interview type of scenario once she'd hit graduation, the young blonde had elected to go for something a little more formal than her school uniform. It was a little outside of her comfort zone, but Rowan-senpai among others were always saying she should try to have more confidence in herself as well as her appearance... And so it had been with some trepidation that she'd decided to go with this cute yet formal outfit choice. She did not like the skirt though and had to adjust herself a few times in the seat to make sure that the camera that was set up for this class didn't catch anything it shouldn't be catching. Once Kiersa was comfortably seated and had her own clipboard with a selection of questions for her turn in this, Chimera-senpai began with asking her why she'd decided to become a hero support student. The young blonde blinked for a moment at him going for the verbal jugular like that so soon... But then again this was a practical lesson to deal with interviews and they would probably do the same thing... She closed her eyes and took a slow breath to calm herself before answering. "W-Well... I suppose it's b-because of my f-father." Kiersa began to say, trying to keep her stammering to a minimum without going into maid mode. So far it wasn't working, but she'd keep on trying. "Wh-When I was v-very young he... He was a v-victim of a b-bank robbery shooting." she said, pausing as she took a slow breath to keep herself composed. "Heroes arrive o-on the scene b-before any local law enforcement or local m-medical personnel in most cases... And I'm lucky e-enough to have a m-mutation of my mothers Quirk with my f-fathers Quirk. She c-can fix small broken objects like n-new, whilst he c-could glow. S-Somehow the two Quirks blended to m-make my Healing Lights Quirk..." said the young blonde, raising one hand and letting it glow softly for a few seconds before snuffing out the light. "I... I don't w-want anyone to l-lose anyone like that... So, if I can heal people, if I c-can keep them f-from dying with my a-abilities, why not b-become a hero?" Kiersa answered with a slightly rhetorical question of her own. The young blonde took another slow breath as she worked to keep her emotions in check. "A-And why not be a d-doctor or nurse instead? Because o-only heroes are a-allowed to use their powers... At least to m-my understanding..." she admitted. She held up a hand once more, letting the glow suffuse her hand for another moment. "In short... I'm lucky that I h-have a power that c-can heal others. So I s-see it as... w-well, my obligation to be a h-hero." Kiersa said, almost matter of factly. As if there was really no other option for her possible, but she didn't regret or resent it. It simply was what it was.

Mikki was all smiles and showmanship, even up to the point where the individual interviews got started. He slithered back and forth between his two pairs of students, clipboard in hand, scribbling notes and giving encouraging nods. This was his kingdom, his arena, his calling--a battlefield he knew far better than all the knowledge he had to teach in Support Studies. This was what he could bring to Heroism.
It was a class that was long overdue considering the disasters that had been wrought upon UA’s reputation since he’d begun work there. A year ago, he’d have not cared a fig what happened to the school, but Tsutsuji Hachi had brought him in, and turned him into a teacher, and by god, the students were going to learn before they caused another scandal with their callow, uncaring view of the world. It was unfortunate--he didn’t like putting students under pressure, but they’d signed up here for a reason; To become diamonds or coal. Or dropouts.
Mikki opened his first page, writing down “Chimera Roads/Keirsa” in flowing script at the head of his rubric, shaking his head in amusement. This was the pair he was most interested in--his protege (or one of them), and a challenge.
Unfair as it was to Keirsa, he was using her--forcing Chimera to confront her, to open himself to her, and ask questions of her, knowing both of them had battled not too long ago. She was a tool to chisel at his student’s weakness. Manipulative of him? Absolutely. But she’d drawn out Chimera’s bloodlust, and that was something he needed to handle before he could go pro. Her mere presence was likely to set his pupil on edge, which was what he wanted.
Still. Even if Keirsa was a tool in his hand, he didn’t intend to overlook her. He intended to grade, mentor, and evaluate both students fairly and precisely.
Both students had dressed appropriately, to their credit. Chimera had anticipated the trap hidden at the start of the lesson, and Keirsa had picked up the hint in his email that he expected everyone there to look like a hero.
Chimera started well, setting her at ease, and launched into the first question--basically an ice-breaker. That was fine. It set the dynamic.
He scribbled down a few more notes as Keirsa responded. That stutter really was awful. She could cure it through vocal lessons. However...it did lend a little charm. Maybe she could learn to use it. As she finished, he tapped his pen on his clipboard, and cleared his throat, slithering over.
“Not bad, Keirsa. You took something personal, and tied it into a broader concept of heroism--healing and helping people loved ones. That fits your image, and the personal touch grounds it.” Mikki said, opening with the good. None of it was a lie. He wasn’t one to mince criticism. “I won’t discuss your stutter--it’s charming in the right places, and vocal coaching is beyond the scope of this lesson. Learn to use it to your advantage, or train it out. If I were listening, however, I’d be interested why you chose hero studies, and not support.”
Mikki shrugged, no judgement in his question. He didn’t really care himself which class a student chose, but it was something to incite curiosity. “However, take a second longer to organize your thoughts--next time, start with the broad concept “I’m a hero, because I’ve been blessed with the power to heal--then make it personal--What you said about your father--and finally, repeat what you started with, and tie them together--about not wanting anyone to lose their loved ones. I’d be careful with words like “obligation” too. It’s a...courageous stance, but one that invite argument.”
Mikki paused, not sure he wanted to untangle his own thoughts on the matter, and wondering if he sounded too manufactured.
“I’m simply saying that if you were talking to someone hostile, they’d press you on that." He said, changing his voice to a sing-song, gossipy tone as he imitated a petty critic. “Do you think every quirker should try to act like a hero?! Are people being irresponsible by wasting their quirks!? Is she blaming the government for not letting people use their quirks?!'"
Mikki spread his hands in a helpless shrug.
"Of course, if you're trying to include a call to heroism in there, that's not the worst tactic. Just don't do it half-heatedly. Oh! And use the term "Pro Hero," I don't ever want people to think we don't consider doctors and nurses heroes. Just. With a smaller "H.""

441 WC yes he went there | He wasn't entirely sure what to be doing as he listened to Kiersa as she spoke. On one hand he was paying attention--it wasn't like he had picked these at random, he was genuinely curious about them--but on the other he wasn't the one grading Kiersa on her words or speaking pattern. Still, he could see the serpent himself looking at them and listening, and he could already hear at least one complaint coming. He personally found the stutter cute. It just sort of suited everything else about her. It didn't make her any harder to listen to...
Ugh, this was why he wasn't looking forward to this in the real world. He could prepare for some of this. But when he had to improvise he sounded like he had in that video years back. When it was his turn, would he get the same warning? It wasn't a stammer but it was also probably "bad".
Chimera drummed his claws against the back of the clipboard, waiting for Mikhail's critiques to end, and taking some notes. He could avoid the same potholes she was making if he remembered what he said. Pro Hero, take a second to gather your thoughts, sandwich your answer, avoid argumentative points. Some of that he probably couldn't avoid, but every little tip helped.
He coughed very softly, getting Kiersa's attention back. "Onto the next ones? I hope you don't mind but I'll be asking my own after this one. Firstly," he ran his claw around the edge of the clipboard, "Who would you say have been role models to you?" Not quite how it was worded on the sheet, but it felt more natural that way. He waited for the answer, giving her time to gather it. Then, as that one finished, he felt the corner of his mouth twitch. Alright. This may be a little mean, but he wanted to see how she'd react, and maybe lighten the mood before he went for the bite.
The...metaphorical bite. Obviously. Not a real bite...
I thought I was better about this. Hah. Must be the extra nerves.
"So I have a question about a piece of your wardrobe. The maids dress you like to wear when cleaning? Do you wear that for...any particular reason? You do know that some people might take it for something it's not, right?"
Maybe this was a little too mean. Kiersa obviously didn't see anything sexual about her maids clothes, and it had gotten her a small army of roombas at her command. So maybe she would find this question funny rather than teasing. .

When the teacher came around and began to critique her answer, Kiersa listened carefully to his words. She rubbed the back of her neck as Mikhail discussed her choice of class, and then her choice of words... The young blonde hadn't considered how it might have sounded to other people. To her it just... felt like it was something she had to do. To her it felt like she was obliged to do so because she had a healing Quirk... But maybe that was because she had been serving other people practically her whole life?
She bowed her head as Mister Orlov finished his critiques and suggestions, before Chimera-senpai began his next question. Who were role models for her? Kiersa closed her eyes for a moment as she tried to take a moment like Mister Orlov had said, to collect her thoughts.
"W-Well I would f-first h-have to say my mother. O-Obviously." she said, adding in a small chuckle. "She's a-always been th-there for me. Even when she i-is really b-busy she w-would always f-find some w-way to help me i-if I was struggling w-with something." Kiersa explained. "I w-would have to say I also l-look up to Miss Ke- I m-mean Aquitaine-sensei." she said, quickly catching herself as she remembered this was meant to be a "formal interview" as if it were in real life after graduation.
Professional names, keep to the professional names. "She h-has a Quirk similar to m-my own and... seeing what she c-can do with it, a-and what she's capable of h-herself is just... W-Well, inspiring." she said simply, not quite able to put into words how she felt about the knightly hero that was the schools combat instructor. "Witch Doctor-sensei i-is another person I l-look up to. A-Again for similar r-reasons..." she said, glancing towards her ankle for a moment.
"Wh-When I was injured a little while b-back... She w-was very patient w-with me, and reassuring. I h-hope I can be h-half the medical Pro-Hero she is a-after I graduate." Kiersa said with a smile.
Chimera's next question however caused the young blonde to look at him in confusion for a moment. This was definitely NOT on the list of questions for this class! She gave a small sigh and shrugged her shoulders though, deciding that real life interviews probably wouldn't stick to an arranged set of questions either.
"W-Well... Habit I s-suppose." she said, putting it simply. "B-Before coming to UA, I w-worked as a maid for the Owakasa family, a-along with my mother, for... well, n-nearly all my life." Kiersa admitted with a shrug. "So when I go to d-do the cleaning a-around the dorms a-and the kitchen... I just do wh-what I know to do." she said, shrugging again as it it was completely normal.
"A-And yes I know th-that there are... thoughts r-regarding maid uniforms. B-Believe me, I've d-dealt w-with it nearly all my life..." she muttered darkly before blinking and immediately bowing rapidly in her seat. "I am so so sorry! I didn't mean it like that! I am so so sorry!" Kiersa apologised very quickly.
