[nospaces] [attr="class","wassup1dangerhead"] [attr="class","wassup1dangerbody"] [attr="class","wassup1dangericon"] [attr="class","wassup1dangertxt"] It was getting increasingly hard for Emi to picture the next generation of pro-heroes – a mild issue, considering she was one of them. In years- no, months, her graduating class would be among the world’s first vocationally trained heroes, tasked with upholding Japan’s peace.[break] No biggie.[break][break] Actually, maybe a bit of a biggie.[break] Enough of a biggie that Emi found herself compelled to pursue extra work for herself almost every day. Today, she was improving a pro-hero’s co-operation skills, a young celebrity’s networking skills, and if she was smart, a journalist’s investigative skills.[break][break]
For you see, the fact that Emi barely knew most of her soon-to-be colleagues was not lost on them – especially the ladies. It was only to her benefit to work on fixing that. Better to make friends on the safety of UA’s grounds than in the line of duty.... Or at least figure out that they would make for terrible friends before lives were on the line.[break][break]
And so she stood, in a surprisingly empty training room. In hindsight, maybe picking a wetter field would have been best. She didn’t know much about Melody, but it was hard to miss that her quirk had something to do with water. Oh well. If the girl was smart enough to make the class rankings, she’d know to arm herself with everything she needed to train. Emi had done just that; in each hand, she held what could easily be mistaken for a bath bomb at a glance, but it wouldn’t take much brainpower to realise it was her ammunition.[break][break]
She set them down beside her, freeing up her hands for some light stretches. Nothing about her quirk called for strenuous movement, but years at the school had taught her a thing or two about proper warm-ups. Hopefully – hopefully -, Melody wouldn’t find walking in to a girl deep into a low lunge too strange, because Emi showed no signs of stopping once she heard the doors open. “Good, good, you came. Thanks for taking time out for this.” Her voice was lightly strained, on account of her warm-up. “It’s extra work, but hey, that’s what it takes to stay ahead of the game, right?”

Some of her teachers thought it would be a good idea if some of the students spent more time with each other figuring out how their quirks could work together and compliment one another. Melody found out today she was going to be working with Miss Emi~ U.A's very own salt girl. Melody knew her quirk from the shenanigans in U.A chat. But she had no idea about the exact details, of the girl's quirk or how it worked so this was going to be rather interesting. She put on her pawmight hoodie and tied her hair up with the yellow cloth that was meant to match the outfit. It did look a bit different when she wore it now because of her white hair but Melody was going to have to get used to that too huh.. She grabbed her school bag and headed down stairs from the frat house to let her roommates know she was heading out to the school grounds. It was still daylight out and she managed to get a buddy to accompany her to school this time.[break][break]
She made it to the training grounds where her and Emi had agreed to meet, Perry sensei said someone else could possibly be joining them but melody hadnt met them before so she had no idea how the three of them were going to work together... Well maybe she could just start off with Emi at first? She arrived at the training grounds...and it seemed like they had finally installed that one faucet in the corner of the area for her. Thank god, it wasn't enough for her to go all out but it would be enough at least be enough for this exercise. She waved to Emi and listen to her first before responding. "Yes that's true. I think it's been far too long since we've done something like this together considering how long we've known of each other." she said then mimicing the same stretches that Emi was doing but she added in some dancer stretches as well that she commonly did in her free time. "So how exactly does your quirk work? I know it's salt related but im unaware of the finer details." she said "Ah but it would be rude of me to ask for yours before showing you mine." She then pulled a water bottle out of her bag and then began to speak to activate her quirk. As she spoke the water in the bottle came out and began to form a ball in her hand. "My vocal chords emit a frequency that seems to let me manipulate water as I please. As long as my vocal chords are active i can control water." she said "Singing is the best way to control it for me though." she said as she began to hum and the little ball of water in her hand began to take the form of a small of humanoid ballerina dancing in her palm. "And you?" she asked as she returned the water to the bottle for safe keeping

A mascot hoodie. Emi’s thoughts on the marsupial were best kept to herself, but it was at least good to know that the girl held some pride for her school and its symbols. Then again, why wouldn’t she? If UA was happy to sing her praises, then returning the favour was a no-brainer. Emi knew that she’d have a lot more to say about the school if it recognized her efforts more oft-[break][break]
She was getting off-track.[break][break]
Talk of their quirks gave the girl something better to focus on; she stood up straight to give Melody’s demonstration the attention it deserved. Water manipulation, with her voice as its conduit, apparently allowing for much finer control than anything she could do. Folded arms and a small smile showed that the observer was impressed, but still deep in thought. Was her mastery the mark of a superior student?[break][break]
“Not a bad quirk to have… especially on an island. Doubly so on an island that manages to flood a lot. I’m guessing you lean more towards the rescue side of things?” She was showing her lack of research. If she’d looked deeply enough into the girl, the Sports Festivals would have given her an answer. But then, knowing everything about a student you’d barely spoken to was a good way to freak them out… And a bad way to keep a conversation going. Getting the girl into the habit of answering questions worked better for them both.[break][break]
“Anyway, it’s no big deal. We’re partners today – sharing’s no big deal.” With little more than a point and a thought, one of the balls at her feet chose to ignore the laws of gravity. It sprang six feet up, only to gently place itself atop Emi’s finger. A basketball spinning atop a finger was difficult, but still possible when playing by normal rules. Her palm-sized ball, on the other hand, showed no motion once it landed, making it painfully clear that her power was at play.[break][break]
“The salt thing is no secret, yeah. In a sentence, I can manipulate and duplicate different kinds of salt. The manipulation is all good, but in most situations there isn’t a lot of salt around to work with. Fortunately-“ The ball zipped forward, hovering forward until it rested between the girls. A twitch of her pinkie prompted the ball’s rapid, chaotic expansion. Cubic crystals forced themselves into being, over and over again until they eyed a platform with enough room to stand on.[break][break]
“I’ve learned to make the most of what I have.” The pride in her voice was small, but audible nonetheless. “Since salt is a solid, I can use it to lift objects and people… Or as a defence, when things get heated. Pretty versatile, if I do say so myself, so we’ve got a fair bit to work with, right off the bat.”[break][break]
Unfortunately, returning her ammunition wasn’t much of an option for her; shrinking her salt back down to size wasn’t in her list of powers. Instead it lazily hovered back to her side; she knew full well that it would find use within minutes. “Your water – can it hold objects, or does it have to stay pure? Ocean water tends to hold a lot of salt, so I do really well with it... But it’s also not often that I accidently find myself out there.” A piece of her platform snapped off, crumbling into grains better used to season food. They were whipped into the air and commanded to approach Melody, gently floating as a miniature cloud. “If your quirk can carry that, then we might be onto something. Worth a try, right?”

She was kind of bad at taking any form of praise from her quirk since she was just used to not being noticed as special at all. Attention from Emi was nice, especially when Emi's was cool too! Melody stood in awe as Emi manipulated the salt so freely "Wow you're pretty good at that!" she said as she locked her fingers together and watched Emi play around with the salt. Melody LOVED seeing people's quirks, Her mind wandered at what kind of beautiful displays Emi could make with salt. Emi moved on to immediately to ask Melody if her water was able to hold things. Melody did smile a bit tho when Emi reassured her that sharing was not a big deal to her, it put melody at ease for a bit. She was always anxious when she was hanging out with people that she hadn't spent very much time with so. "Does your quirk behave differently with different types of salt? As far as my own quirk goes not really? The control gets a bit harder but if i focus i can purify the water again." she said "Are you able to pull the salt out of stuff that contains it?" she asked curiously just how deep Emi's control of salt went.[break][break] "Oh, yeah I can lift things." she said as she spoke moving her water right up to Emi's cloud of salt as she requested. But melody wondered if the salt would just immediately be absorbed into melody's water. "Would your salt just kind of mix with my water though?" she asked curiously wondering if this was going to be harder than they thought. "Or would you be able to condense it enough in the water that it stays solid?" she said as the water began to float towards Emi's salt cloud as melody spoke. If she couldn't keep it condensed...this was going to be harder than melody originally thought. She was concerned if it did mix in with the water they might end up for fighting control over the water.. Melody did wonder though however what exactly Emi had in mind for their combo attack. This girl had only just learned of their quirks and was already concocting ideas? Just exactly how creative was emi? Did melody finally find someone who matched her creativity? Only time would tell, and she was just dying to find out.

[nospaces] [attr="class","wassup1dangerhead"] [attr="class","wassup1dangerbody"] [attr="class","wassup1dangericon"] [attr="class","wassup1dangertxt"]
It didn’t take much to draw a self-assured smile onto Emi’s face; its emergence when Melody spoke of her power made that much clear. A simple “Thanks” sufficed as a response, until her partner threw more questions her way. “It’s funny. At first, I could only work with table salt, then rock salt. Now it seems like all kinds of salt are the same, as far as my quirk is concerned. Only difference is the colour – and the flavour, if you’re into that.” A slight grimace followed at the notion of somebody taking a bite out of her creations.[break][break]
She’d done it a few times before, in an emergency, but Melody didn’t need to know that.[break][break]
No, she was there to investigate the girl, not give up some of her own secrets. The girl had enthusiasm, a decent understanding of her quirk… But none of that was outstanding, especially considering for a final year student. She’d have to pry a little more.[break][break]
“Drawing salt out of water is the best way for me to work, yeah. Lots of things have salt inside them, even some clothes. Not our uniforms, though. I already tried that. Shame, too. I would have been able to mess with a lot of people.” In a flash, the frown flipped into a smirk. For a few seconds she paused, apparently distracted by daydreams of saline sabotage. It took a snap of her fingers to bring her back to Earth.[break][break]
“Ocean water just happens to be one of the most common sources, since we live on an island and all. I don’t see why the salt wouldn’t go back in, but whether that’ll cause problems…” There was no sense talking when actions could answer. The levitating stream of water was peppered with countless grains. There was no change in the girl’s expression, implying what her element’s movements would confirm a moment later. The grains were withdrawn almost as easily as they were sent in. A flick of her wrist, and they were flung back into Melody’s manifestation, spitting themselves back out the other end. Back and forth the salt flew, at the whim of its master until she spoke.[break][break]
“It’s not perfect, but at the same time, it’s not any harder than trying to move it through saltwater. Like pushing anything underwater, really, and I’ve trained a lot for stuff like that. I figured that a quirk like mine would really come in handy during typhoon season, so once you’ve trained in raging waters, this…” She let a shrug finish her sentence.[break][break]
Her gaze trailed off to one side, and with it, her voice did too. She began to slide into her own thoughts – but not enough to forget herself entirely. Twitching fingers recalled all of her salt back to her, and then behind her. It rushed together, into one solid clump, and then spread itself thin vertically. Simple shapes were no trouble for the girl, and Melody could conclude that anything complex called for the touch she gave her creation. It wouldn’t take much brainpower to realise she was making a chair before she sat in it. The thing was a crystalline facsimile of those in their classrooms, after all. The control might have been the surprising part, which may have prompted the question: Was she that good? Or did Emi Ryoko Tachibana seem like the type of girl that would practice making a single shape hundreds of times, until she could do it without looking, just to look cool?[break][break]
She didn’t offer an answer. Instead, more thoughts on their combination: “I wonder, though, if it’s a different story on your end, or if it gets more difficult if either one of us is actually trying to get away from the other. I guess that wouldn’t be a problem if I let go of my salt and let you carry it until I needed it again…” The girl’s brow slowly raised. She fixed her eyes back on the other girl, as if finally remembering she was there. “Well, there’s one idea. You spray droplets of salt water around an area, and all of a sudden I’ve got every angle to work from to keep a villain distracted. It’s not exactly a power play – personally, I’d prefer something flashier -, but if we do end up in a situation where we’re working together, it’s good to know that that’s an option.”

"You're welcome" she said with a small smile on her face as she replied. "Oh really? That's pretty cool, it shows how much progress you've made." she said as she reminisced on her own quirk skills. When she was in kindergarten she was able to only turn her hair into water but it was JUSTTTT enough freakishness that the kids would freak out and run away screaming and crying. She was then branded as water bottle since then on. "Nah, when it comes to seasoning I'll leave it to basil since...well his name is kind of self explanatory I suppose?" she said as she wondered what exactly his quirk was but she knew he was a bit obsessed with food and seasonings. "I see, well I CAN just control substances that have water in it but the control's a lot more finicky...more muffled is the way i'd describe it?" she said trying to explain how it even felt to try and manipulate such a thing. "Like it cant move as quickly or as hard but I can still move it. I've tried to gain control of ice in the past over someone who's quirk was to control ice and I easily lost out on it." she explained further so that Emi had more information to work with. Melody was very forthcoming when it came to her own quirk at least, she didn't mind if people knew how it worked cause with enough intuition they'd be able to figure it out quite easily if the fight dragged on for long enough. [break][break]
As Emi sprinkled in the salt into the water, she didn't really feel very much of a change in how difficult it was to maintain control over the bubble. She just as easily also took the salt right back out from the water, well at least Emi could get the salt back out easily. Emi did it even a couple more times to show that she could move it in and out just as easily...wow that actually added a lot of variety to their quirk's mixing together. However melody began to notice a small little..caveat to her quirk it seemed like she had to do hand movements for it? Or something of the like? She flicked her wrists to get it to move in and out of her water and saw her finger's twitch a bit as she gathered it under her for a seat.. melody didn't wanna ask, after all people did tend to keep some secrets to the specific ways their quirks worked. Besides Melody wasn't really the type to confront and outright ask things as since this was their first time hanging out in person she's going to act more reserved a bit.[break][break]
However! Melody was brave enough to at least try and be a bit mischievous. "Ah I guess that can work. It's not exactly a power move but then again, it could be a great move for getting people out of the way and or just controlling a certain area or zone. It's not a bad idea at all" she said as she sprayed water into the air with her voice and suspended it there for a few moments, melody pretended her phone vibrated however and she pulled it out quickly and began to freak out. "OH CRAP I GOT A RARE DROP ON MY GAME!" she said jumping up and down to get Emi to drop her guard and she continued to speak to manipulate a small pool of water over to one of the legs of the chair. She was going to test for herself if she could make the salt dissipate into the water. "EMI, LOOK LOOK" she said as she ran over and showed her a screen of a character from a gacha game. After a few moments the chair would start to fall sideways and Emi would most likely lose her balance as the chair became unstable. If Emi couldnt react in time Melody water move the pool to catch the girl so she wouldn't fall.[break][break]
"So you cant keep it solidified when in contact with water then." she said giggling a bit to herself as the water gave a slight nudge for Emi to stand up. "Sorry, noticed you avoided it~ Felt a bit cheeky." she said with a small smile on her face as she stopped speaking and the water everywhere splashed onto the floor.

[nospaces] [attr="class","wassup1dangerhead"] [attr="class","wassup1dangerbody"] [attr="class","wassup1dangericon"] [attr="class","wassup1dangertxt"] The name escaped her… That late into their school life, if Emi couldn’t match a face to a name, they were either very new, or not notable. In her eyes, at least. Hers was a harsh criterion, of course; in a school of superheroes-in-training, standing out got harder by the day. Not that it stopped her from trying. [break][break]
“Muffled. Yeah, I get it. Inconvenient, but not impossible.” Closed eyes and a slow nod told that she knew the feelings well, but rather than elaborating on that- “I’d bet. Quirks tend to not like it when you try to find loopholes in them. There’s a few people around here that use quirks I should be able to pull salt out of, but no dice. Sucks, too. Would make it way easier to get the jump on them.” Half her mouth cocked into a smirk, albeit only for a second. “That aside… I’d feel a lot better about this is we could come up with something that could actually stop a villain, instead of just setting stuff up for later.” She leaned forward in her makeshift chair. With an elbow against her knee, and her chin resting on its bent hand, she was well on her way to mimicking The Thinking Man. She sat much straighter than the statue, at least. Years of gamer girling have beaten poor posture out of her. Being occupied by trying to focus on their task (unlike somebody) meant that Melody was free to engage in her trickery without intervention, until- [break][break]
A gacha. Emi showed about as much interest as a stressed mother tending to a kid on a sugar rush… Which was to say that Melody earned little more than a raised eyebrow and a “That’s cool, pal.” She added ‘easily distracted’ and ‘very excitable’ to her analysis of Number Eight, none the wiser to the game the girl was really playing. Beneath her bottom, her crystal eroded in a matter of seconds – an unnaturally fast process, as a result of two unnatural abilities at work. [break][break]
She snapped her fingers. “I’ve got an idea. It’s gonna sound very… dark, but stay with me on this one-“ Emi might not have noticed her construct deconstructing, but it was hard to miss her vision – and body – tilting, fast. She and the chair were falling one way, but a forceful application of her quirk could make them swing the other way. And so they did. Too much. Wide eyes realised too late that the end result was the same: Emi was thrown off her chair, just at her own hand instead of Melody’s. [break][break]
How gracious of the Lady of the Lake to save her, and how humorous Emi’s face must have been, finding itself pressed against a blob of water… But not slipping through it. She lifted her head off the solid liquid while Melody revealed her grand scheme, apparently more interested in the makeshift platform than anything the girl had to say. [break][break]
That was how it looked, at least. The wethead had left Emi with a lot to process. A quick glance back at her chair – still in one piece, minus the missing leg – explained her tumble, and demonstrated the girl’s capacity for deception. That was more than she could say for a few students, in what was supposed to be casual brainstorming. A playful side to the girl, or an otherwise well-hidden imp showing her true nature? [break][break]
Emi wanted to be annoyed. Actually, she was a little, if her face was any indication. As she stood back on her feet, she seemed hesitant to speak, as if carefully choosing what insult she was going to ruin Melody’s day with. She took a deep breath in, and then- [break][break]
“For somebody so eager to find out the details of my quirk, you left out a pretty big one.” Assuming that the water remained, Emi directed an open palm and a narrow-eyed gaze at it. “You being able to make the water… that, changes a lot.” The girl gave pause. Rapid foot tapping made her attempts to keep her cool clear enough, but it only took a few seconds for her to do so. [break][break]
“Makes what I had in mind more feasible, at least. Hypothetical. We’re fighting a villain. He’s already a little knocked up, wounded maybe. You use your quirk to surround him in saltwater – encase him, really. Like a ball of water that he has to struggle to break out of. Maybe leave his head out so he can breathe. Guy’s focused on breaking himself out of the water orb… Which gets a hell of a lot harder when salt is being forced into his open wounds.” Emi assumed Melody was smart enough to connect the dots, or had spent enough time in the kitchen to have experienced it. She let it hang in the air, waiting to judge the girl’s reaction.

Wow Emi looked a lot like a sage in that pose, maybe she had an artistic side to her? As Emi commented on how quirks tended to be angry at the users trying to find loop holes Melody kind of just awkwardly smiled. She never really had issues with trying to find a loop hole with her quirk really, hell it's trademark flexibility is what melody appreciated the most when it came to her assignments related to quirk use. But at the same time she did admit to herself that her quirk had limits not even she could entirely cover. [break][break]
However now was not the time and place to discuss quirk logistics with herself! She had to talk to Emi about it instead! As Emi continued, it had seemed like she completely fell for Melody's little trick. Which was...rather surprisingly, Emi's quick wit was something she was known for in U.A. Her sassy remarks were her usual retort when it came to her getting flustered, to which Melody quickly replied with her own wit. Something she thought Emi enjoyed from time to time. She raised up a finger as she pointed out to Emi something "True but a girl shouldn't reveal ALL her secrets right away no?" she said with a small cheeky grin on her face. "Besides! Shouldn't master reporter extraordinaire already be aware of that~? I do it a lot during my fights, Jeez Emi I thought you were a fan!" she said as she put both hands behind her back and interlocked her fingers as the water slowly raised itself to help Emi stand back up.[break][break]
Emi had explained a possible combination between the two, basically melody would hold the guy down. "Ok good so far." she replied until Emi started to talk about rubbing salt into their wounds to get them to stop. Melody stared at the pink haired girl a bit "Damn thats...that's a bit fucked." she said plainly, there was really no other way to word it. "That could be filed under some...cruel and unusual torture, no?" she said to the girl. "I'm sorry but can we think of something else for a combination move?" she said as she began to think of one herself. Admittedly Melody was a bit stuck on what to do, Emi's initial idea of hiding the salt in melody's water was a good one..."Maybe instead of a move we have a unique fighting style? Like you said. We could hide the salt in the water and if I were to miss you could get a cheap shot in?" she said in a suggestive tone. [attr="class","addy"] addy

That same, supposed quick wit stopped Emi short of pointing out that she didn’t give Melody that much attention. A focused, analytical eye was reserved mainly for her friends, proteges and people she anticipated getting violent with. Since each of those groups could be counted on both hands, such a level of ‘love’ was a rare honour that Melody had yet to earn. Perhaps, she wondered, that was where her failings lay. If the girl’s surprise at her lack of knowledge suggested that she spent her days watching what her comrades could do, then that made it worth trying.[break][break]
That, or her companion had some really high standards for her. Yeah, that sounded about right. Why wouldn’t she?[break][break]
“I keep my eyes on a lot of people for a little bit of time. I say this in the best way possible, but I’ve got too much going on to do a deep dive into everybody in the school. Not for lack of trying, either.” There was a sly edge to her smile. “I’ll leave the detailed quirk notes to the government for now.” She held the expression, even as Melody parsed her suggestion. Morbid? Yes. Cruel and unusual? Almost certainly. And yet, even though Emi could never see herself bringing it to life, there was merit in gauging the girl’s reaction to it.[break][break]
“…Right answer,” she said, but not before letting silence hang over them for a beat too long. “Nothing good can come out of a pair of heroes running portable pain chambers… But I’ve seen some pretty messed-up stuff from students, especially in the Sports Festival. I’d like to hope everybody knows better by now, but I also would have hoped that they wouldn’t have to learn, you know?” Half an eye-roll and a disdainful tone made her thoughts on the matter painfully clear. Once it had passed, she put her mind and quirk to work, repairing her chair so she could rest once more. An attentiveness previously absent in her eyes made it clear that she had no plans to be surprised again, especially when her gaze rarely strayed from the other girl.[break][break]
“Keep it between us, would you? I like to throw out those curveball questions once in a while. Figure out where the others are coming from. Stamp out some stupid ideas before somebody tries to drag them into reality. I like to think I’m doing my bit to keep the school in good shape. Doesn’t really work if word gets out.” Alert as she appeared to be, the relaxed smirk had found it way back onto her face, almost as if it were natural to her.[break][break]
“On a more serious note, a double layered barrier of salt and water would be simple, and effective. Probably. Strength of two women and all that. Your idea works along those lines too. Get the enemy thinking an attack is coming from the left, then sock them from below once the attack is close. Some might call it underhanded. I’ll go with ‘tactical’.” [break][break]
A few seconds passed, mostly spent by her drumming fingers against her knee. “We have targets somewhere around here, don’t we?” She was back on her feet before she finished asking, and walking across the room before Melody had a chance to respond. Without another word, she let herself out of the room. Proper context would have to wait until she returned a minute later, pushing an oversized archery target on wheels in front of her. “This’ll do. Good way to keep track of how and what we’re aiming for, right?” Her and her target came to a halt half a dozen feet from where Modly was standing. “Sounds to me like you’ll be taking point on Unnamed Brine Battle Tactic, so I’ll need you to make the first move. And, er… call the shots, I guess.” The hesitation is brief, but noticeable. Being the follower was a strange situation for Emi, but neither of them would be surprised by that.
