| ◀ | As Sweet as Candy It had to be perfect. Kaya was determined that it would be perfect. It was admittably a bit early on a Saturday and under normal circumstances it would require her to run her shop as normal but not today. Today she had closed her shop for the day and while her daughter slept, she prepared. It had been ages since she had any time to just spend with her daughter and it was honestly killing her a bit. So here she was, 9 am preparing a surprise rather than preparing orders for a day. In some ways it seemed like she could never escape her store. Once her little surprised was finished she would nod approvingly and would head back upstairs to her apartment. If she knew Amai like she thought she did, the young fox was still snoozing, so she had ample time.
Heading back to her kitchen, well her personal kitchen and not her professional one she would pull eggs, bacon, sausage and well as a bunch of other ingredients out from around the kitchen. It didn’t take long for a pancake batter to come together, all the while the sausage and bacon where cooking in the oven so they would be done in time. The smells of breakfast would soon waft through the apartment and Kaya would only hope that her daughter was knocked out enough for her to stir awake yet. But by the time she was done there was a buffet of food that she was carrying out to the table. Two omelets one for each, basic with ham and cheese. A plate piled high with sausage and bacon, probably more then they could eat in one sitting, but they could always try. Lastly a plate of pancakes, piled high and each the size of the plate the omelets where on. Stepping back Kaya would admire the spread she placed on the table before walking to the fridge and pulling out orange juice to place on the table. Walking over to her coffee machine she would start a new pot for herself, trying to imagine the last time they sat down and enjoyed a breakfast as a family. It was so much easier to do when her husband was around.
Quietly walking over her daughter’s room, she would gently tap on the door. “Amai?” Kaya would call out, clearly enough that her daughter would know she was being talked to if awake. “Sweetie? Are you awake?” Gingerly opening the bedroom door she would tread carefully to her daughter’s bedside, nudging her daughter’s arm slight. “I made breakfast Amai, we should eat before it gets cold.”

Amaihana Okashi [The Candy Filled Fox]
Sleep. It was a five letter word. Sleep, it was a word for the weak. Sleep . . . happened to be one of her favorite spells.
Yet Sleep, she did not.
She pressed the command one last time. The showcase of the virtual dice rolling away at her screen as she typed away her actions. Chisu Lau, Hero of Courland. She was proud of the woman she had become, even if it was all fantasy. All she needed was one more big mission, one last haul, and her plans would begin to unfold. Her home, her land, her village, all of it would be restored, then she could freely move. She would be able to see the land for what it was, with her great allies. Kyonshi Onihara, and Ravage Bones, Pirates of the Black Blades along with Fish Pond, Cthulhu's Chosen. It might not have been the ideal group, but she was at peace. All she needed was one last roll. A thousand gold sat on the table. All she needed was not not roll lower than three. All she needed was-
The door creaked open. She could see the silhouette of her mother. Panic ran through her veins as she looked out the window. The shy peeking of the sun through the blinds. She quickly shut her laptop and stuffed it under her pillow before rolling under her covers. "Oh fuck..." she thought to herself.
"Oh my god was I playing all night?" The realization was settling in. She closed her eyes. Her mind at peace, at rest. The touch of her mother waking her. She would roll over, her eyes glossed over as she was still half awake.
"Yeah, okay mama." she would speak with a yawn. "But can I eat up here?"
She couldn't turn down warm food, but the unknown possibilities of what her dice had rolled lingered.
Was she a hero? Or had she returned to the life of a commoner?

| ◀ | As Sweet as Candy Poor thing, she seemed so tried. Kaya could help but feel her heart strings be tugged at by the display of what she thought was an exhausted Amai. “Sweetie you know that I don’t allow food in the bedrooms. You should come downstairs! I made your favorites.” She would smile and speak sweetly, trying to nudge her daughter out of bed in a gentle fashion.
“Have you been sleeping alright? You seem tired. But a nice large breakfast will help wake you up, I made omelets, bacon, those maple sausages you like and most importantly: Stacks of large fluffy pancakes!” Kaya would have a strong sense of pride in her voice as she described the breakfast menu to Amai. If that didn’t get her up and out of bed, she didn’t know what would! Well except maybe…
“It’s been such a long time since we had a day to ourselves as a family… even since your father died it’s just been the two of us and I’ve been kept so busy… most of my days are usually stuck taking care of the store and making sure you get to school alright.” Kaya would sound so depressed as she recollected the relatively recently past. “So, I closed the store for today and prepared a surprise I think you’ll love! But you need your energy, so I tried to prepare your favorites!” She was rather proud of herself. If you asked her this was a flawless idea, it was on a weekend too so she could still have a day to rest afterward!
“I get you’re tired though. If you’re bed’s starting to feel like it’s an issue, we can look into a new bed for you. I can give you a few more minutes to wake up but try to be there in five minutes or so alright? I don’t want this to get cold.” Kaya would get up from the edge of her daughter’s bed and start to navigate the room back out. It was honestly a mess but that was for another day. Today was going to be their mother daughter day no matter what! The main surprise being in the store’s kitchen below the apartment.

Amaihana Okashi [The Candy Filled Fox]
Lightly, she would find herself being evicted from her quarters. A meal in the other room? Fitting, it was just her way to get the girl away from the screens. She entertained the maiden. Er, her mother, rather. Tucking her computer, she would pull the covers back as she rolled out from the other side, shuffling into her slippers. She would grab one of her larger loose jackets, acting as a robe as she shuffled her feet.
She would get quickly dressed, only to be verbally greeted with the menu. "Well, then why are we still in my room? Lets go eat." She would say with a tired smile. All seemed well enough for now. She was suffering two points of exhaustion. Only a few long rests could cure her ailment. Though, perhaps a potion, or a Heroes Feast would cure her. No, wait, right. This wasn't the game, this was reality. Right now, breakfast. Then, she would she her result. She needed to prioritize.
That being said, as she made her way to the door before her mother, she looked around the room. A few books out of place and opened on her desk, and a shirt or two on the ground. It wasn't too bad. She should vacuum again, even though she had done that a few days ago. She wasn't shedding was she? No, that was just a joke... right? Though, the mention from her mother about her father caused her to slow down and freeze into a statue. She didn't want to talk about it, especially not right now.
"Food will wake me up." She was going to power through it. Her mom obviously put a lot of effort into it, and closing the shop was a big deal. The dice can wait. For now, she had duties as a daughter, before a hero of the nine realms.
"Am I allowed to have coffee though? Just a little?" She would ask, her own eyes half opened. She would hold the door open, allowing her mother to leave the room first. Her gaze fixed on her pillows before she would shut it behind her. Her next quest was to set to the kitchen and retrieve the fine goods. The goods, being the nice breakfast that was made for her. Though, it was for the both of them, it was Amaihana who had been the chosen target for what was made. Pancakes did sound really nice right about now.

| ◀ | As Sweet as Candy Kaya would practically be walking on air as her daughter finally relented to the family breakfast. It had been way to long in her eyes. Almost skipping she would remove the foil from the food that she had been using to keep the food warm to show of the impressive spread that she had prepared. “Dig in! don’t worry about holding back, eat your fill!” Kaya would push the food in front of her daughter and was almost ready to sit down herself before she excused herself to the kitchen to grab another mug and placing it down in front of Amai.
“Just this once alright?” Kaya would say, pouring her daughter a cup of coffee about seventy-five percent filled before handing the mug over. She could add her own creamer and sugar. “I’m surprised you want coffee though. I thought you would complain it was to bitter.” Preparing her own cup, Kaya would take in the smooth aroma of the coffee. She needed a small pick me up as well it seemed.
“But I have two things planned for us, perhaps some more if we have time. But today will be a really busy but hopefully fun day!” She would boast as she dug into her omelet, letting her daughter eat her fill of the pancakes first. But reaching over she would grab a few pieces of bacon and sausage for her plate. “But the store has been doing well and I have considered expanding the menu…”
She spoke knowing that it might anger Amai, Kaya was very much aware of how focused she was on her business but there was a reason. Honestly, she felt like she couldn’t keep the first secret quite for much longer. “I was planning for three new items. One to seasonal and a hot chocolate mix which I would like you to help me taste test. The second I am thinking peanut brittle and lastly…” She would leave a dramatic pause. Chewing on some bacon to hold the suspense. “Well as long as I am able to recreate it myself to some level it’s whatever you want it to be. But you have to make it.”
Kaya felt so giddy, waiting to gauge her daughter’s reaction. While it may not be a standard day out for some fun in the sun or shopping, it was exciting! Besides there was more time for other stuff afterwards. Most of today would take depending on how long Amai took to create her confection. “Now it doesn’t have to be completed today, but we are going to try to get as close as complete as we can.”

Amaihana Okashi [The Candy Filled Fox]
The food was fresh, and even after cooking it, it seemed as if she expected Amaihana to take a while. She had to muscle through it all. The small boost of caffeine would be enough to get her going for a while at least. It looked like the foil took longer to put on, than to actually get her out of bed. It looked good. And it was still warm. She reached out, taking a whole pancake and rolling it up, to stuff the end of it into her mouth. "I mean, dark chocolate is bitter." She would mention, which was true to a degree. But her small addiction to coffee would remain a secret for now. Perhaps it was a bad idea to start buying them from the vending machines, even if she really liked the canned coffee. Her mom didn't need to know that, and much less find out how much candy she's been buying.
Being handed the cup that was a fourth of creamer and sugar, a part of her was disappointed in not getting the black coffee she wanted. Still, she was getting far more than she expected. A cup three-fourths with an added dilution did seem a bit better than just half a cup, right?
A busy day was hardly fun. Even arcades were far too busy for her to relax. All of the eyes from people who weren't actually standing behind her. A calm quiet day was more her speed. But, she wasn't in a position to argue with her mom. She took a seat, dipping the pancake into her coffee before taking the next bite. She would finish the next part undipped, before getting a strip of bacon. She'd sip her drink, before doing the same with her bacon. Bite. Dip. Bite. Chew. Bite. Chew. "Expanding...?" she wanted to ask "What?" but being smacked was not something she was going to welcome eagerly.
The idea of hot chocolate was a welcomed thought. It only meant that when a seasonal mint blend came out, when it was out of rotation, it would be something she could easily drink without worry of eating too much of the inventory.
"Wait what. Make what?" Anything? That was quite a feat. She had to make something up from scratch? Did using her quirk count? Was she supposed to think of something new an innovative, or just pick something they didn't sell often? If her mom was going to replicate it, it had to be simple. Given her quirk, anything that wasn't caramel would serve as an issue. Her mind started to think of all of the spell components. She needed to choose an act of the arcane that still was a shared ability between them. Right no, candy, not magic. Unless it was?
"I dunno ma. Why don't we just make something simple then? Like a chocolate fox or something. Fill it with caramel." she wrote off the idea as a foolish one, but saying it out loud, it did sound pretty good.
Man, it did sound pretty good...
