Perry was inside his little home on his private land behind the dorms of U.A. and had been there much of the early morning. The sun had only risen roughly a hour earlier as he had been preparing his various tools for the day. A fishing rod roughly that of a childs size for a human in size but custom made for himself. Olden bamboo style like fishermen long past. He had a tackle box as well roughly the size of a normal tackle box. Inside it was a few tackles and some custom made ones at that. But also some little containers with bait. The box itself was open as Perry was still seizing the morning dew and moments from earlier in the morning as well filling one of those small containers with their contents he desired. He also had a larger pole he lent out now and again of a more modern style for anyone that at times wished to accompany him on his little outings for some tasty fresh fish dinners. Today he had a student in mind to use it as well. But for now with all these items neatly set out near the edge of his privacy fence surrounding the handful of square yards that made up his private land. Off to the side outside this fence was where our small Possum friend was today. Remaining still for moments on end before leaping up at times and pouncing at something on the lightly messy area of ground where he'd dug up a inch or two down here and there. If one watched close they would see that now and again with each pounce what he was watching for after occasionally shifting through the lightly moist and muddy areas of the small area he'd been scratching around. When he popped up what could be seen was long worms he had been snagging up. If one looked closely near the grass that hadn't been messed with a few almost fully gone potato peels and old coffee grounds could be seen. Perry cultivating a small night crawler farm or at least working on it as such. Reaping some of the harvest today to use them for the fish! He was grabbing them and stuffing them in the small containers that also had cool lightly wettened dirt within. The place he intended to go wasn't far off and on U.A. grounds. He was for now just catching a few more wiggly worms while waiting for the person he invited to finally show up to his small home as he'd invited them too. He would rise up as he waited plucking a bit fat tasty looking one almost a little jealous of the fish that would get scrumptiously dig into it. But he would allow the jealously to sway and resist the urge to eat it since if all went well the worm would bring a delicious plump fish to munch on in its stead. An that was what it was all about after all. ----

What was the appeal of fishing to one of the petit-bourgeois? She wasn’t exactly jumping for joy at the idea of sitting still for hours. Was she meant to feel satisfaction of letting a wild animal suffocate for her own entertainment? To earn measly scraps to make a meal she could pay somebody else to make? No, of course not. The hobby, as far as she was concerned, was best left to others…[break][break]
But it had been a long time since somebody had invited her out. Too long. Long enough that acknowledging the fact stung her pride. Only in those moments of weakness would she have considered spending her day with the school’s mascot. He was probably cool. Probably… But much like she had successfully swerved away from every spider mutant in her life thus far, Emi had a hard time looking past the appearance of a small…[break][break]
Rodent? Mammal? Truth be told, she didn’t know, because looking it up would mean looking up more pictures of the thing than she’d ever wanted to see.[break][break]
But like it or not, the possum had infested her school, the country, and her life. If she was going to have to interact with it at some point, then at least it could be under the guise of potential friendship. She could try and be civil, and who knew? Maybe the little guy could even surprise he-[break][break]
All hopes were dashed in the face of her ‘partner’, naked, his face much too close to the earth, busying himself digging up… Were those worms? Actual, live insects being wrested by its bare paws?[break][break]
Nobody told her that bugs would be involved.[break][break]
Disgust wasn’t quite a strong enough word for the look on Emi’s face. It was a small accomplishment for somebody to keep her quiet when it was her turn to speak. To leave her speechless before a conversation could even begin was worthy of a medal, and yet, Perry had done it. There she stood, frozen, sickened, and already reconsidering her life choices.

He almost hadn't noticed her at first as he managed to pull several new worms from the ground. His front paws stained with mud and clinging bits of slime from the worms that had sometimes not held together whole. But it seemed the ones he had gotten had formed a truly modest bounty of bait to fuel the future endeavors after the fish he had his sights set on. A fish of the right size after all could be a feast to one of his size and he did rather enjoy fish if fried up just right in his perry beer brand mixed into the batter for that perfect dash of flavor. At least in his opinion that was. His ears twitched after a moment when she was closer popping up to spot the clean and wealthy student approaching. Offer her a tiny hand in the air offering a welcoming wave and gesture to continue coming over towards his little quaint log cabin home. So small that only someone of his size could truly call it a home as well.
"Oh you're actually here roughly on time! Most of the time when I ask or tell you joey's to come someplace so early you tend to be late! But you arrive on time! I like it! A hero in training should have polite sense of time after all" He said quickly snapping a plastic lid on the cup now full of wriggling dirty worms that at times even lightly caused the cup to wiggle in a very mild vibration a sign some really big ones were in it. He pulled up his small pole and a little lunch box under one arm. Walking over to his small truck parked not far off as he began to load a small trailer with the tackle box, lunch box, bait, and even his small pole. For hers the large one to loan her he walked over and hoisted it up for her to take it. "Might be best if you carry this, In a moment I'll drive to the lake bellow on the edge of U.A.'s forest area. Been managing it for awhile and getting some tasty fish growing down there." He'd say quickly scampering shortly after back to his house briefly to come out in a small set of fishermens waders. Looking like a tiny fisher men with his large toothy possum grin ever present as well.

The repulsion wasn’t leaving her face any time soon. The severed worms wriggling in the cup of a creature with no regard for cleanliness didn’t do much to dissuade it. She quickly found herself grateful that she’d wrapped up for their trip – almost absurdly so, considering they were in summer’s peak. She’d bear with a little sweat if it meant keeping nature’s filth off her, because she had no interest in being covered in dir-[break][break]
Oh, the possum was talking. She drew her mind away from the mud and towards a surprisingly American-sounding animal. He was, at least, capable of speaking a few sentences. Should she have been surprised? Probably not, but as far as she was concerned the animal had a lot to prove before she’d truly accept him as one of them.[break][break]
Not that she’d ever say it out loud.[break][break]
“Of course. Everybody’s time is valuable. I wouldn’t want to leave you hanging when you invited me here.” At the very least, she could show him respect. More kindness, perhaps, than she’d shown in the chatrooms, but nothing out of the ordinary for those that had met her in the flesh. “Besides, I’m kinda used to the early starts. I hate them, but me and some of the students used to do sunrise runs before school. If we’re only going to get busier after graduation, I figure I may as well try and get up for other reasons.” She accepted the gift – the tool that would bring about many a fish’s demise. Or, more likely, allow her to lose a fight with a river-dweller, several times in a row. The girl tried to make it too obvious that she was carefully examining the thing; the amount of times she’d been near anything fishing related could be counted on no hands.[break][break]
But she was nothing if not open to new things, even if that included wrangling slimy creatures, to drag more slimy creatures out of their homes, with a talking possum for company. It was still pretty gross overall, though.[break][break]
She started to walk towards the lake. Stopped. When she looked over her shoulder, it was with a knitted brow. “We have a lake?” She’d never been much of a forest girl to find out for herself, and UA provided enough facilities that she’d never had to search for more. “That you take care of?” She gave pause again. Her lips pressed themselves into a shape that said what words wouldn’t. ‘Not bad.’[break][break]
But he was still on thin ice.[break][break]
“You might have to lead the way, in that case. If I get lost on the forest, it could be a few hours before I find my way out, and that’s no good for either of us. Besides-“ She folded her arms. Something close to a smirk pulled itself onto her face. “It’s about time that I got to see the truck in action.”

He gave a few quick nods finishing a few bits of setup here and there as they conversed and he made sure all the gear stuff for the day was ready for the outing. In the mean time they spoke as things were prepared. "That's nice, Good to hear you and the others are keeping healthy and a good schedule. Early risers might be a bit tired in the morning but hey early bird gets the worm as they say!" He'd say giving the small foam cup he stashed the worms in a little shake as if to jest lightly on the comment and idea of what it said lightly.
As they sauntered across the grassy areas near the forested area of the training places on the edge of U.A. grounds a small ways away from the fort slog training areas or the other preparations Aquitaine had been up too. Not wanting to get his stuff in their way. Eventually nearing the small lake he'd tried to keep cultivated with catfish and various other tasty fish that slowly over time had a natural source he could use for food from time to time for his fishing needs and delights. "It's more of a hobby I've taken on, I've tried to cultivate it so that way I have a tasty fresh source of fish once it was fully settled and taken care of! It's nice now that it's all setup compared to just a empty body of water like when I first lived here." He said in some explanation and talk as they continued to speak near the water the sun shined bounced of as the waves gently moved on the waters surface from the light cool breeze in the air as well.
The small little truck had chugged along as well most the way. The little engine with a light rumble and the gear mostly remaining where he strapped it in place. Smiling proudly at her statement given he was rather proud of his vehicles he'd worked so hard on. Nearly fully custom builds after all. "I hope it looks good! I've worked hard to keep this ol truck running strong and well. It hasn't let me down yet." He'd say as they'd pull up near the water. Perry getting out of his vehicle after a couple moments and scuffling through his items and the tackle box moving his things down near the water side. "Since we're using live bait do you need me to show you how to set your hook?" He'd ask curiously with a little wiggly pink sniffer. Ready to help her get started as a good day of fishing lay ahead of them.

Emi had already told herself that she wanted nothing to do with the worms. Fish lived in ocean water, right? So a block of salt had to make for as good of a lure than anything else. Probably. Hopefully. She was more than willing to experiment if it didn’t mean impaling a crawly on the end of her rod.[break][break]
Concrete melted into grass into forest, before that gave away to reveal the school’s lake. She hadn’t thought that the possum was lying, but the water, so close to them but hidden from plain sight, brought mild surprise onto her face. She was no expert in lake quality, but the pool wasn’t spitting avid at them, so she had to assume he was doing, at the very least, a decent job. But… “You’ve lost me a little, though. You want to grow your own fish, just to eat them? Like, don’t get me wrong, I guess the effort is nice, but… We live on an island. You can pay people to do that for you. In fact, there’s a lot of people that would be willing to take your money for their fish.” Unsurprising words from somebody that also had a private chef; the intricacies of sourcing ingredients were lost on her. As far as she was concerned, it could have ben a matter of instinct. Possums hunted fish, right?[break][break]
She really needed to consult Boogle once this was over.[break][break]
They came to a halt at the water’s edge, and the dreaded moment arrived. The teacher seemed to think that she would have no problem using bait. At the sight of the pinks, the only way her face could say the opposite louder was if she screamed at him. “Yeeaaah. About that. Cool idea. Love your resourcefulness. But how about I… don’t do that?” Squeamish didn’t begin to cover her attitude towards anything that was small and crawled, and didn’t have a cute factor to counterbalance it. “There wouldn’t happen to be alternatives lying around, would there?”

As he chugged along towards their location he heard what she was saying. He snickered a bit given she had some point, But it wasn't just the eating that made it a joy. There was a hobby and relaxation in this when doing it ones self. "It's more satisfying to do something yourself now and again! As well as some of the fish I've had growing in population in the lack aren't normally caught as easily in these parts! Some tasty catfish and a few other delights are in there. Some big ones too might I say!" He said snickering as they moved along closer and closer before arriving at their destination. The smell of grass and nature taking within his little snoots nostrils was always more pleasant then the pavement or concrete smell of the more well built areas of campus. Even as evolved as he was nature always did feel like a welcoming home returning to it from time to time.
He shook the small cup of live worms that was rather large compared to his size. But she seemed taken back. He scratched his head a bit unsure why she would decline given it was more likely to gain a fat catch. Maybe she didn't like the texture of them? Ah well it was more he could have saved over later perhaps to put in a minced meat pie. For now he'd fish in his tackle box at the back of his truck and pull out a small lure that would help at least in this case. The colorful thing to look like a tiny flashy snack for the fish to go after.
"The live stuff would be better but if your sure we'll use this." He'd say offering to hand it to her. "Careful with the pointy bits! You need to pull the line of the pole through the little holes at the top of the lure and tie them secure and keep it at the end of the line." Briefly showing her how to loosen the line and work the rode properly. He hoped she could tie a sturdy knot at least as well to secure it.
"Let me know when you're ready to go and got that thing on there good!" He'd say fishing out a small worm that wriggled about as he stuck it through a couple times on the hook of his own small possum sized bamboo rod. Getting the wriggling thing secured where it needed to be and then checking up on her. Hopefully she didn't struggle with the lure too much.

DIY. That, she supposed, she could relate to. She had more than enough money to pay somebody to handle engagement on her socials; to wear her personality as a mask and engage with her fans. And yet, the thought rarely crossed her mind, for it was a point of pride for her to say she had grown that community herself. A small, resigned frown and a shrug tell the possum that she concedes… On that point, and that one alone. Something told her that she’d never hold a slimy water-dweller as close to her heart as her brand.[break][break]
The possum provided an alternative: a facsimile of a fish, with zero chance of squirming and scaring her. The relief was plain as day on her face as she accepted the lure. Golden eyes fixed themselves on his pair of paws as he demonstrated how to use it… Which was great, because she didn’t have a clue. In fact, even with his help, she seemed to be struggling. Watching a beast she dwarfed attach two tools she’d never used with each other was enough to knit her brow together, though her issue was more with the latter than the former. It didn’t take much longer than it should have for her to figure things out, considering it was her first time doing so, but those few seconds were enough, in her eyes, to niggle at her nerves.[break][break]
At least she wouldn’t have to touch the worms again.[break][break]
“Something like this?” She let go of the lure, allowing it to swing from the end of her line. Fortunately, a decent knot was well within Emi’s set of skills. “I don’t mind if I only get something small with it,” she lied. Bigger was always better, but if bigger involved having to mess with the worms, she’d make do. “The important thing is that I’m here and trying, right?” She voiced the thought that she had told herself half a dozen times on the way there. “Hell, if I get a single fish today, I’ll be happy. Not that I plan to do anything with it after. Frying fish isn’t really up my alley and all.” [attr="class","wassup1dangerfoot"] [attr="class","wassup1dangernotes"] OOC:

He couldn't help but offer a small modest giggle and laugh as she casted out her lure decently well for a beginner as well. He was perhaps more pleased as well with her upbeat and willing to learn and participate attitude. So many other students were so odd and varied in their different reactions to such things. Many heroes or even heroes in training were so high on their horses they often he expected looked down on such activities. But Perry took pride in his many, many, hobbies. After all a ever evolving mind was always keen to learn and do things ones self.
He would have casted out himself with a flick of a tiny pink fuzzy wrist. His own not relying on a road but a simple bamboo classic style rod. The small bober floating about lightly on the clean water that had small waves here and there as hints of fish taking small peeks here and there at their different forms of bait and lures. "You did well for a beginner! An ah yes I imagine a large fish would be quite the joy! To be honest as I'm sure you could have guessed they are all kinda big compared to me. One good sized one is a feast! Mmmmm, Nothing better then a tasty cooked up fish you catch yourself." He'd say in some mild small talk. Watching the waves as his pole was held carefully in hand the bamboo material remaining somewhat motionless in his grasp. "Its nice you wanted to give it a try as well. Most of the students beyond a select few don't seem to interested in such grounded hobbies such as these." He said in continued mild small talk as the waves and curious fish teased bellow the waters waves and light blue color as the sun shined down reflected off of its surface.

Emi followed suit; a plop gently announced her hook’s breach beneath the waves. Then came the fun part. Even the voice in her head dripped with sarcasm, as she set herself to the task of… not doing anything. There were many aspects of fishing that escaped her grasp, but behind the concept of stabbing live animals for fun, the waiting was the part that baffled her the most. The idea that people – creatures, she supposed – willingly sat down to spend hours of their life waiting, gambling their time in the hopes that eventually a fish they could buy from a store would take the bait… The appeal of it flew over her head. Perhaps it always would…[break][break]
Unless she sought to educate herself. That was, after all, what she was there to do, wasn’t it? She turned towards the possum, and didn’t bother to glance back at her rod. Nothing was going to impale itself on her hook – that much, she was sure of. “…Part of the reason I joined this school was to do something new. Something different. Every once in a while, I try to remind myself of that. Keeps me on my toes, and you never know what could spark a new idea.”[break][break]
That was a bit more honesty than she thought she’d be sharing with a marsupial, but it was a harmless truth. Besides, the little beast had proven to be… capable. Intelligence. They’d managed to travel a fair distance without him breaking into natural habits, which was more than she had expected. Why she had expected that was likely a matter for another day. There were only so many self-realizations to be had in one day, and she was already on the way to her first…[break][break]
“I still don’t think I’m getting this one, though. The appeal of all this, I mean. You stand, and you watch, and maybe a fish will try to pick a fight with you, and maybe after that you’ll get to keep it… And that’s it? The whole thing?” A knitted brow made her confusion plain as day, as if her tone wasn’t selling it enough. “I’m sure you have other things to be doing with your time. Grading papers, saving lives, watching TV. Any number of hobbies that take less time than this to get to the point… With a guarantee of getting that point, too.” She knew that she did. It had barely taken seconds for the temptation to check her phone to buzz in the back of her head, to reconnect with the outside world or send her words into it. If not that, then training, or studying, or catching up with friends or making new ones. Not this… nothingness. It didn’t suit her one bit, or at least, that was what she had convinced herself.
