Jasmine had found it increasingly difficult to stay still these last couple of days. With the information she had garnered from the likes of Elise, the wolf now had a very real lead towards Rin's whereabouts. Aomori. Or, more specifically, Aomori general hospital. It was... honestly it wasn't much of a lead. Yet considering the fact that this was the very first clue she'd gotten ever since her little raven disappeared, Jasmine considered to be huge. Finally something. Something that may lead her to figuring out this entire mess.
Even if this turned out to be nothing more than a wild goose chase, Jasmine wouldn't be able to rest until she investigated.
It was her blood. Elise was able to confirm to the wolf that Rin did indeed use her quirk to wake Jasmine up from her coma. By sharing her blood, the very thing that embodied her quirk, the raven altered Jasmine's very being. Their blood mixed together to produce something new entirely, thus not only activating a temporary extreme healing factor which was able to heal Jasmine's wounds and wake her up, it also changed her physiology. Her hair. Her eyes. Her face. Hell, her whole body. The entire change in her appearance was because of Rin's efforts using her quirk in the most intimate way imaginable.
It was that very same blood that Elise had managed to find traces of flowing through Jasmine's veins. Luckily enough, even if their blood has merged to produce something completely new, traces of both could still be found. Through her accesses in the Public Safety Commission Elise was able to search the system, cross reference the data she had with the databases of hospitals all throughout Japan. Neither girl had much hope. Whether it was a stroke of sheer luck or something else entirely, Jasmine couldn't tell you, but they were able to find a Hail Mary.
There'd been a hit. Nothing explicit, but concrete enough to warrant a look into. Traces of Rin's blood were found in the databases of Aomori General Hospital. Recent. Give or take three weeks after Jasmine had woken up. What was more interesting -- and subsequently alarming -- was that this data was tampered with. Edited. An attempted cover. Then deleted. Luckily enough whoever tried deleting all of the files didn't have accesses into the deeper servers of the government. For once Jasmine was glad information on quirkers was hidden so high up the proverbial ladder.
With this news Jasmine's next immediate destination was Aomori, but even she knew that she couldn't go in blindly. Whatever clue Jasmine and Elise managed to find was a dangerous one if somebody had tried to delete it. The wolf was too worried that Rin was in danger, and as a result she had to approach this carefully. Quietly. Off the record. And if there was any man she knew that could do things off the record, it was no one other than her damn Godfather.
She'd contacted Jaeger practically on the same day and asked to meet him. Nathan, despite the pointy stick of bad humor up his ass, came through immediately. The two sat down near school grounds with some pizza and talked. Jasmine explained to him the situation and what she was going to do. He didn't argue or try to stop her. Nathan knew exactly how much Rin meant to her. He offered to help her, which was exactly what the wolf hoped her Godfather would do, bless the man's dumbass soul.
He promised to look into things for her and asked her to bide her time. Jasmine outright refused. She could approach things carefully but there was no way in hell she was going to sit back on her ass and wait for others to do this for her. Nathan named a source -- a friend of his from way back when. A Detective Takeru Miwa. A deadbeat cop who operated outside the law, but got things done. Jaeger advised to go see him -- he'd even let Miwa know Jaz'd be on her way there and to help her -- but he also warned he'd probably have a stake in this. Fine. Jasmine didn't care. Whatever it took.
Now, with the proper pieces in place and a goal firmly set... all Jasmine needed was to get things rolling. Legally, if possible. For that, she'd need to contact the other person she trusted with her life.
Mia Kearney.
The wolf called the Oni that Thursday. Asked if she could see her. "It's important, Mia. Please." Suffice it to say after a sentence like that Mia had grown a little worried and accepted. They'd go to her cabin up in the mountains where they could talk without any bullshit. For that, Jasmine was grateful. So much so that she remembered she actually had to help set up the electrical grid for the cabin.
The wolf arrived in a flash. She had a backpack and a bag with her. The bag was filled with the tools she'd need. Her backpack? A weekend's worth of clothes and her hero suit. This needed to happen. This weekend. Jasmine had waited long enough.
Rin had waited long enough.
Having hopped out of the bullet train Jasmine could barely keep herself from blasting through the skies with her quirk. Instead, she ran. To Mia's building, then up the stairs. The doorbell rang.
"Eyyo it's me. Open up!"

Mia had been worried, not too worried but... worried all the same at Jaz's call. They didn't explain much but the two of them were at least on the level of a possible full weekend trip out to her cabin. She made arrangements the night before with the hero association for some emergency leave... which was a lot easier to get these days since they were looking for any excuse they could to get her off the streets whenever possible. They weren't about to offer her an early, EARLY retirement, but they took what they could get. Like that she had friday and monday off around the weekend and she'd gotten Freya to cover her route thursday. A light bit of packing and she was ready when Jaz showed up.
She heard the bell ring and, sensing that Jaz might be a little bit impatient, Mia trudged down the stairs, catching her maid Tori sitting on the couch watching TV in what was supposed to be the 'waiting area' of her hero offices. maybe this place'd get more use next year when sidekicks were a thing but for now it was pretty much just an additional common space. "Ay Tori we all square for the weekend right."
"Yep." She'd comment without looking back from the TV, Mia fiddling with her keys herself. She was wearing a canvas jacket, her old Stetson from back home wasn't worn but it was held by a string about her neck, a loose army green shirt and cargo pants as her ensemble for the ride to the cabin, her hero costume and some spare clothes packed away in her satchell with a few other things packed up already in the pickup truck down on the road level.
"Aight. I know you moved in the other week so I ain't changing the code or nuttin' before I leave. Just er..." She paused for a moment, then sighed. "Okay have a party or whatever you're gonna do just make sure the place is clean before I get back."
Tori took another sip of the... suspiciously clear liquid in a coffee mug, and held out her hand. Mia let out a light grunt through her nose and slapped a few more thousand yen in her hand before turning to leave. "You're lucky I keep you around you know!" She called back but with a more teasing tone.
"Yeeeeah you love me bitch."
The older, dark haired woman gave a wave to her boss as Mia reached the door, Mia slipping out and patting Jaz on the head, not breaking her stride as she started for the elevator. "Come on kid Pick-up's already out on the road downstairs. We should hit some good traffic if we don't dally." She'd hit the elevator button and wait for it to take them down, leaning her back against the inner wall of the elevator. "So... do I get to know anything before we get there or we stickin' all hush hush on this?" Jaz would know she trusted her on this... but she was still curious what could require a trip out like this.

An explosive breath left her nostrils as Jasmine waited on Mia, her boots clunking against the ground as she paced in place. She was impatient. Anxious. Even a little bit excited. As worried as the wolf was for Rin, she finally had something. A real goddamn lead. Something to actually chase. The student was under no illusion that this tip was a guaranteed fix for all of her problems yet she still couldn't help but feel giddy.
Hands in the pockets of her denim short shorts, Jasmine turned to face Mia once the Oni had finally shown herself after what felt like a short century. The wolf didn't even have the time to make a quip or two about the other feminine voice she'd heard inside Mia's place before the Oni's massive hand came down on her head, pushing the hood of her loose black hoodie off. "Oi," she complained, but didn't go much further beyond that before following her mentor into the elevator.
"Hush hush? Nah," Jasmine admitted as she hugged the wall of the elevator with her back, emerald eyes glancing at the ceiling. A small smile made its way to her lips as she then turned to Mia. "You and I are gonna get to your place. You're gonna prepare that famed barbecue of yours you keep telling me about while I fix up the electricity and help repair some of the shit we damaged in our last fight," she said, hoisting up and showing Mia the bag of tools she'd brought just for the occasion.
"Hmm... then? Then we're gonna get drunk. Fuck me do I need to get drunk. And then..." With a grin, Jasmine pulled out a few slips of paper out of her pocket before slapping them against Mia's chest. Tickets. More specifically, plane tickets. Plane tickets which she'd bought out of her own pocket. The time she'd spent being broke taught her a few things. Suffice it to say she wasn't that broke anymore. Not rich by any stretch of the word, but wealthy enough to be able to buy plane tickets for two on incredibly short notice. "Then I'm gonna tell you about our trip to Aomori tomorrow. Or, well... more like beg for a huge favor and ask you to come with me to Aomori, but details, am I right?"
"Think I've found her, Mia," she said. "Rin. She's there. She has to be."

Mia smirked as she ruffled Jaz's hair and got that playful little complaint on their way towards the elevator, crossing her arms and resting her back into the elevator wall, shifting to get comfortable as Jasmine started to go over what their trip might be entailing. She chuckled with an exhale through her nose, shaking her head as Jaz tried to brush off most of their trip like it was just gonna be the two of them hanging out at the cabin. "Oh don't worry I fixed most of the local landscape within the next few trips down there... I definitely wouldn't mind the electrical work though. I don't know what the fuck I'm doing there. Wouldn't even know where to begin.~" She offered across a warm and somewhat cheeky smile, taking another slow breath as she leaned her head back and listened to the rest. "Aomori...?" She paused to ask, not too used to the geography of Japan outside of Tokyo. She had no idea how far away that was but if they needed a plane... "Girl you seen the size of me? Hope those tickets are first class or your in for an uncomfortable flight squeezed in next to me." She lightly teased, but with a bit more weight to her tone now, clearly taking this grander issue seriously now that such extreme travel was a factor.
But... the penny dropped, and it was clear as to why. Mia held her gaze forward for a moment, not too sure what to say for a second, she just let the decleration of sort... sit between them. Her shoulders sagged a little, relaxing but still feeling an odd weight to them at the same time. Mia was never one for deeper relationships like this, but... she knew from their talk when she returned how much Rin's dissapearance meant to Jaz.
"... I don't know how you know this. Maybe I don't wanna know. I mean... tracking down a person can lead you down a looooot of illegal paths so a part of me assumes I don't wanna ask too many questions and just accept that you know this is a good lead so..."
She hooked an arm about Jaz's shoulders, just pulling the girl into her side and taking a deep breath. "Aomori it is then..." She gave Jaz's shoulder a tap before letting her go as the elevator opened with the ground floor, walking out to her pick up truck and tossing her bag into the back, having parked it right outside the front of the apartment complex. "So. Barbecue first right?" She let out, if Jaz wanted to explain the Rin thing more on the ride up she'd absolutely let her. if not this was her easy out, letting her just talk about what kinda meat she might want and if they should pick up anything on the way. on the other hand, if she did wanna actually go more into detail on the Rin thing... easy enough for her to let it all out.

Jasmine gave Mia a sideways glance; of course the woman decided to fix that whole damn thing by herself. "You should've called me, y'know. At least half of that mess was because of me anyway..." She voiced out but decided to stop the bitching there. By this point the student was well aware of how Mia operated. Not that she could really complain about it anyway. She nodded, "I'll give the electrical grid a look. Had a few odd jobs here and there helping set up peoples' apartments. You wouldn't believe how many people don't know half of what they're doing. I'm surprised nobody's ever blown themselves up, honestly."
"Yeah. Aomori's way up north. About... give or take 500 miles from Tokyo," the wolf snorted with mild amusement at the last comment. "I wouldn't have expected you to agree to come if I hadn't gotten first class, Horny. I got things covered," she said, smiling back.
The wolf had grown a little quiet after what Mia had said. She was well aware of the many ways manhunts could go, especially if you were desperate enough. Luckily for the third-year this opportunity came to her entirely by chance; a stroke of luck that ended up being offered by none other than an operative of the goddamn public safety commission itself. You couldn't get more legal than that.
"Nah, not illegal. And like hell can I keep this all to myself. The PSC has accesses to public healthcare systems and I just so happen to have a friend working there who was more than happy to point me in the right direction after a little digging," Jasmine explained. "I'm not going to bore you with all the science-y details, but... suffice it to say that... this?" A finger pointed towards oneself. Top down. "This whole change? This was Rin's doing. Her quirk had this thing where she could very literally share her blood with others and induce an extreme cellular regenerative factor. It's why I was able to wake up from my coma back in Mercy. Hair, eyes, and everything else changing was just an unintended side-effect neither of us had any idea about."
"That's how we found the clue. Rin sharing her quirk with me meant there was traces of her blood mixed with mine. My friend over at the PSC is a medical specialist. She took a sample of my blood, tested it, and then crossreferenced it with all of the entries in the public healthcare system and voila. By some stroke of sheer dumb luck we got a hit in Aomori. The only problem is... that shit's clearly been tampered with. Somebody tried to delete the records. Too bad for them, though, they hadn't thought about the backup servers."
As they exited the elevator and made their way to Mia's truck, storing all of their belongings in the back and hopping in, Jasmine continued to explain. "I spoke to my Godfather. Y'know, Jaeger? See if he had any clues. He gave me a lead, but... well, that's where things could get a little tricky... but that I'll explain after I get a few beers in, if you don't mind? Seriously, there's too many things going on in my head right now. I need to unwind a little."

"Jaz I was down there every other weekend anyway. Don't worry about it. All I had to do was lay down some new soil.~" She teased back, genuinely not finding it having been all that much of an effort or a bother, though she was definitely thankful for the electrical work. She didn't even know where to start with that stuff. he dad might but he definitely wasn't in the know on that one. "Well at least you can let me rely on you for that then. I got like no clue when it comes to electronics. I'm probably somehow managing to use the wrong kingds of batteries in half my shit.~" She teased, knowing full well that legitimately wasn't possible.
Mia listened along as she hopped into the car and took in all the details. 500 miles huh? Plane ride wouldn't probably take too long and they could probably get back before anyone missed them so long as they didn't need to stick around too long. Mia was curious through the extreme measures Jaz had to take to find her if... well, the girl wanted to be found by her, but the very least Mia owed her was to support her. If they got any warnings signs, any clear signals that they shouldn't keep pursuing this, she'd put the breaks on the operation, but for now at least she was on board.
"Can't say I remember the name but you were gone a while..." She lightly teased as she pulled out of the main roads on a firm path towards the outskirts of Tokyo, leaning back into her seat a little as she more casually cruised with the car, in no rush for them to get to the cabin given they seemed set on at least spending the night there and enjoying a few drinks before the real work started. "If a few beers is what it takes though fair enough... you know me though. I trust you to know what yer doin'."

"...if you did that I'd reconsider my internship, not gonna lie," Jasmine teased back, a short chuckle leaving her at the mere idea. Though despite Mia having been teasing, the wolf had actually met people short or a marble, especially in terms of vehicular maintenance. The bulk of Jasmine's income had come from this garage she heard were looking for employees. One interview and practical test later and Jasmine was already putting her amateurish skills to work putting car engines back together... or changing windshield washing fluid when somebody who really shouldn't own a driver's license poured the damn thing somewhere it wasn't supposed to go.
As much as Jasmine enjoyed the easy buck, she'd honestly prefer if people actually knew how to properly operate their damn cars.
Riding shotgun, the ashen wolf stared out the window at the trees passing them by. Part of her found it difficult to contain her excitement; another part dreaded what she'd find... if she'd find anything; and the third? The third worried Rin didn't want to be found in the first place. Though, admittedly, that worry wasn't a huge one. Jasmine had gone through this mental conversation with herself far too many times to count and she still couldn't imagine a universe where Rin would disappear the way she did of her own free will and tell Jasmine absolutely nothing about it. Her little Raven had made it abundantly clear -- whatever happened, she'd never leave Jasmine's side. Even if Jasmine's own life depended on it. Jasmine knew that she could trust her. The way those words were said... she'd never heard anything more sincere in her life.
Foul play was the only thing she could think of that made any remote sense at all... and that was perhaps what worried Jaz the most.
Jasmine grew quiet for the briefest of moments, glancing at her partner in crime with a thoughtful expression. Did she know what she was doing? Far as Jasmine knew this could just end up turning into a wild goose chase... and even that was up there with the better lot of possible outcomes. She sighed through her nose, eyes darting at the road in front of them as an old pickup passed them by.
"Honestly? I have no idea what the fuck I'm doing," she admitted... yet despite those words being a concrete confirmation from Jasmine that there was a very real possibility of shit going so far South you'd hit the goddamn Antarctic Circle, her eyes were as determined as they'd ever been. Hell, there was a confident smirk on the wolf's face. "But it's the first piece of news relating to Rin I've heard since waking up. So... one way or another, I'll figure it out." A glance Mia's way, a thank you exchanged through eye-contact, "We will figure it out."
Before long the two females had arrived at their destination. Jasmine quickly hopped out of the car and stretched her legs, a soft moan leaving her lips before she rolled up the sleeves of her hoodie and pulled her tools out of the back of the truck. "So, you wanna point me to your circuit breaker? I'll take it from there."

Mia didn't say much more about the Rin situation. She was always a blunt soul and by now Jaz probably already had the impression that she was being cautiously cynical about this. She wasn't about to set Jaz up for an 'i told you so' but she wanted her to be prepared if things didn't work out. Still, she trusted her to know what she was doing and if all it took was a long weekend of the two of them flying 500 miles... well it was an easy sacrifice to make for the chance to get Jasmine some closure on the shit that happened with Rin, for better or worse.
Arriving at the cabin, it was definitely coming along physically. One of the rooms was still missing a coat of paint and the floorboards but otherwise the place was practically done. Once the wiring was set up she'd move in some basic electronics like a TV and some speakers maybe, set up some light fixtures but best to let Jaz figure out how everything should run before she wasted time hauling that type of shit out here. "Er... head in the front, there's a closet between the entrance and the kitchen. Check the floor. Opens up to the basement. Circuit breaker's down there." She gave the girl a nice thumbs up as she pulled the meat she had for the barbecue out the back of the turck. "I gotta get the fire pit going but if you need any help finding stuff lemme know. Most of this place was built so I could pull it apart again if I wanna build an extension so you shouldn't find it too hard following any of the wires along.
Mia herself would get to work on the barbecue. She had a nice little set up on an area marked with paving stones outside the cabin. A stone well filled with charcoal and a hung cauldron on a chain over it. She'd wipe down the outdoors table to a clean level and start cutting up the meat where she needed to. Most of the shit she could just throw in but some chicken wings and burger meats she added some spice to as she put it all together. Anything that did well cooking in it's own broth like a chicken wing she threw directly in the pot before lowering it into the fire. Anything that did best being flipped and cooked evenly like burger meat was layered on a grill she fit over the top of the cauldron, dropping both into the pit with a match and letting them slow cook in the steam while she prepared some side-aids. Buns, sauces, all that. You'd think by the time Jaz came back Mia was setting a table for a whole fucking family to have their fill given how much she'd cooked, but Mia did have a habit of cooking enough for someone twice her size and now she had an extra guest to feed too.

If Mia did in fact build this entire place by herself, Jasmine had to give it to her -- the big lass knew what she was doing. By the time Jasmine was done inspecting what she'd be working with she couldn't help but be impressed. Everything was practically handed to her on a silver platter. All the wolf really had to do was rewire a few things and make sure nothing could ever cause a fire hazard. That and she made sure to do a few tricks with the circuit breaker; Mia could connect the fucking Pentagon up in this bitch, she still wouldn't blow a fuse.
It took Jasmine about an hour of work and another half hour of double-checking everything was in order for her to be satisfied with the finished product. She wiped some sweat off her brow with the back of her fist, eyes glazing over the wiring setup connecting to the circuit breaker. One more look. She nodded to herself. Yeah. This definitely worked.
A soft sight left the student's lips as she stood back up and straightened herself. She stretched her back, groaning when a few bones popped back into place. Work like this -- house maintenance, vehicle repair, you name it -- was nearly always approached by Jasmine as something akin to therapy. Just turn off your brain and focus on the task at hand. No foreign thoughts to cloud your judgement or make you feel anxious. Only the problem in front of you which needs fixing. It'd been a while since Jasmine had the opportunity to do something like this and as a result felt grateful. Especially because this whole Rin debacle had her mind up in a tizzy for the past give or take four days.
Leaving to rejoin Mia after she was done and cleaned everything up, Jasmine couldn't help but whistle at the sight, "...you plan to have family over or something? Jesus, Mia, I couldn't eat all this in a week, and I eat a lot," she teased, though couldn't deny that the sight looked delicious. She felt herself salivating already.
"Uh, job's done. Wiring's all good to go. Messed with your circuit breaker a bit, too. Won't have to worry about blowing a fuse and losing power, like... ever. Oh, plus, did you know? You got one of those fancy generators. If your power does cut out, for whatever reason? Yeah, backup power's a thing. Won't hold out more than hour hours -- made it six cause I'm awesome -- but it's still something. That and now you got Wi-Fi. And cable. How? Don't worry about it. Though if someone asks just call out the 'perks of being a pro hero.' Should work."
"Now. Where can I clean up a bit? Looking at all this food got me starving."

When she finally heard Jasmine coming out of the house Mia had set out quite the feast, a few plates each set up with a different kind of meat from sausages, burgers, hot dogs, chicken legs and wings, a few chunky thighs. It definitely looked like a family feast that could still get some leftovers even for a beast like Red Horn and maybe a few of her siblings, even assuming they were all the same size as her, which they weren’t. “Yeah Yeah I may have gone overboard but I made this whole fucking-“ She gestured idly to the cauldron that was now hanging over the doused fire-pit. “Set up and I got no one to show off for… besides this is all good quality meat. I can just shove it in the fridge and tear it up for sandwhiches or something. Gotta have packed lunches for patrol runs and all right?~” Of course she’d offer Jaz to take some leftovers if she wanted. Mia felt her meat would be some good quality even after some time in the fridge.
With confirmation the work was done she was a little surprised. Mia knew she’d laid down the ground work as much as some youtube guides could tell her to but she thought that would be like a full day job, maybe something Jaz would need to come back for… but she was already done huh? Nice. Almost disappointing not to have an excuse to drag her down here again. “Well you definitely did that faster, and cheaper, than any bloody Japanese hick could. Knowing them they’d have probably left me with half the power, a huge bill, and took all bloody weekend so…” She gave Jaz a firm slap on the back in appreciation. “’Bout that wifi though… how little do I wanna ask questions?~” She teased, wondering what level of illegality was just put into the walls of her home.
She didn’t comment much on the generator. She didn’t remember having one but she remembered her dad saying she was gonna grab some bits and bobs from past construction jobs and stuff it in the basement for her. That must be where it came from. Yeah, yeah that sounded right. Good ol’ Dad, bringin’ a smile to her face even when he wasn’t here, eheheh..~
… wait. shit he probably put it there so she’d have to call him when it breaks. Sneaky cunt.
“Mm?” Snapped from her thoughts at the question on cleaning up, Mia scoffed and shook her head. “Oh fuck nah don’t worry about that. Those things are still pretty hot, I’ll give ‘em a power wash later. Even your hands won’t be able to dent the grime on that shit.” She tossed a plat across from the table, expecting Jaz to have the skills to grab it. “Just make yourself a plate and dig in aye?~” She offered across a warm smile before heaping piles of meat onto her own plate, easily strolling over to a lounger that seemed as hand made as the rest of the place to sit down and enjoy her food once she had enough.
